Hello,
and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and
socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
Loranna's Roleplay, while an open roleplay where everyone is invited to
join, is not a limitless or unregulated game. There are rules we have set
ourselves that make roleplaying easier and more enjoyable for everyone of us.
Please take the time and read the following guidelines carefully and, more
importantly, act according to them.
1. Have fun!
2. Fun does not mean you can do whatever you want, though.
Let us please clarify some points. While everyone is welcome to join in, they
are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING
IT FIRST. Let's be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:
Affecting other characters:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good.
Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
Major Events:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political(converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
For the purpose of coordinating this RP, backstage fun and discussing current
and future events, we have established a chatroom on chatspike.net, chatroom
#Loranna_RP. We strongly recommend that you have a glimpse in there, since it
is the easiest and most convenient way to discuss characters and settings,
explain rules, plan and give you the background information you need to play in
this RP. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the
player whose character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM
them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP You'll enter our chat channel and we can
talk to you.
Here are various other rules, tips and information you should take time
to read before joining this RP:
1. Background History:
Loranna's RP has accumulated a rich background history. Of course, no-one can
know all that has happened in this RP, but it is important that you have at
least an idea about the major events that took place during the last
one-and-a-half years. There are a few posts of Loranna that explain the history
of the RP from her character's viewpoint and a summary of the events in the RP
is in progress, you can find them
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html. Another summary is available as
text file from Nalion, please ask via our chatspike channel or per PM to Nalion
for the time being. We are working on a more permanent solution to provide this
information.
The chatroom #Loranna_RP on chatspike is probably the best and fastest way to
get yourself informed about the RP, just ask the moderators and long-time players
there if you need any information. They will gladly help you. It is also very
advisable to read up on the most recent posts and threads to become a grasp of
what is happening right now in the RP. This will significantly help you in
finding a way to join the action and will reduce the probabiliy of mistakes.
2. Reading and catching up on the RP:
We're a dedicated lot of players, and we love this RP. This means we put a lot
of effort in our posts, do a lot of planning and discussing to create our plotlines.
This requires time and dedication. And we require this of you as well. This
means, take your time to read the posts of the other players and take the time
to catch up on the plot if it progressed while you were away. This simplifies
your rejoin into the action. It is also a sign of respect to the other players.
If you don't have the time to read their posts, why should they bother with
yours, then?
Again, please let me repeat this, for it is very important. If you are not able
or willing to put time and at least reasonable effort in this RP, think again
whether you want to join this RP or not.
3. Gathering information
Gather information about the RP, be it asking in chat, by reading older posts
and getting up to date on the history or by asking via PM. No-one can know
everything, sure, but everyone can ask about what happened. We're glad to
assist! Again, this can not be done without some interest in the ongoings in
the RP, effort and a good bit of dedication.
4. Roleplaying
Roleplaying doesn't just involve making your character say something
(in-character chat). It also has a descriptive element. Motions and emotions of
your character, worries, joys, mimics, movements... we want to see them!
Describe how your character acts, this gives you a better grasp of your
character and will help your fellow players build up a relationship to your
character. It's not only action and big fights we have here in this RP, there
is a major social aspect to it as well.
5. Posting
Try to take your time to post. Yes, we are aware that there are hectic scenes,
like in big combats, where some things move faster, but is it in general a good
idea to look over your post again to check it. Yes, we know it sounds stupid
and obvious, but please care about spelling, punctuation and grammar. They are
not just things you learned in school once to forget afterwards. We are no
decryption experts. Those grammar rules have their meaning, and there are tools
out there to help you(word spell checker for example). Again, the chat is a perfect
way to ask for
time and coordinate with other players if you have problems.
6. Character control / multiple characters
Once more, about controlling characters that belong to other players: You
cannot control a character that is not your own (with a few exceptions, like
having talked to the player of the character beforehand). This means most
of the time the following:
* In combat, you can only try to attack another character, but whether
you hit him or how much damage is inflicted is up to the player of the
character, and only him/her.
* This applies to healing or helping the character as well; feel free to try
and offer help to a character, but let the other player describe the effects of
the healing/helping.
* Especially in combat, you have to work closely with the other players, the
chatroom is the best and easiest method to discuss these things.
Another thing related to this topic is referring or speaking to other
characters whose players are not online. If possible, try to avoid involving
characters when their player is not present. It ties down your character while
waiting for the other player to come back, and you don't know whether the
respective player has other plans when he is back.
Additionally, avoid generating scenes where you involve a character, affect him
with an action and finish the action before the player can react (stealing,
attacking, casting spells or similar actions). Example: No running up to
someone, rob him and run away to safety all in one post. This is a no go.
Controlling multiple characters. We have no written limits on how many
characters you may control; the limit is you. In general, it is very advisable
that you stick to one character when you are new to RPing. When creating a
character, it is VERY important that you consider your character carefully.
Again, this has something to do with effort and dedication. It is generally a
bad sign if you join up, post a couple of posts and then say you are bored with
this character and make a new one. Other players might get annoyed greeting and
introducing their characters to a new character when it is obvious that this
character will not last long because the player gets bored with the new
character. This RP is a social RP as well, and it is very difficult to socialize
with a character that is badly played, where you can see by the style of
writing that the player is already bored with the character and will throw him
away at the next opportunity. RPing is all about characters and your character
is your "representative" in this RP, your voice, your arm, your mind.
Please take this into account when creating and playing your character.
As a general rule of thumb, use only one character until you feel comfortable
with him, can control him, have fun with him and the character is established
in the RP. The rest will run automatically after a while when you get more
confident and experienced in RPing.
7. Secret plans
Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're
revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards
they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them. Examples: Your character
suddenly remembers that he has a castles all over Tamriel and calls in troops
to help. Or: Your character suddenly reveals he is a spy of the Emperor and
knows everything.
8. Ingame consequences of character actions:
Morrowind the game was rather lenient when it came to direct consequences after
a character's action. This is not the case in our RP. There are laws and local
customs, and there are guards and other authorities that are there to enforce
them. So, starting tavern brawls, stealing, murdering, open assault and all
other related actions are very likely to be persecuted and punished (this can
go up from your character ending up in jail, being banished or to be executed).
This doesn't mean that there are no murders or thefts in the RP, but it does
mean that if you do that, be aware of the consequences your character will have
to deal with.
9. Additional helpful information:
Please make sure that you read the following post of Allerleirauh
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855,
dealing with some of the above mentioned rules, as well as the hints on
character generation done by Loranna
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=3828224.
Please take the above mentioned rules and information into careful
consideration, they will help you in joining this RP quickly and are useful to
avoid problems. And more importantly: act according to them!
** Not following the above advice will only result in two things: your
post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone else as if it did not
happen and/or you are asked to leave the RP. This is obviously not good for
anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them and act according to
the rules mentioned above. **
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna: Loranna is back in back in Ald Raathim, and has been
recieving mostly good news for the past day or two. All of her friends have
returned from their various quests, and come bearing powerful items to aid the
cause: From Black Marsh, comes an egg filled with the sap of the sacred Hist;
From Sentinel, comes the Spellbreaker shield blessed by the priests of Arkay;
From Cyrodiil comes necromantic texts Slyvos can use to further divine
Mannimarco's plans, the Masque of Clavicus Vile, and a belt from Loranna's past
that can sheild a person's innermost thoughts. The most outstanding prize
however, comes from Firsthold, in the form of the Lady Glacia Rysleire, Reed's
new girlfriend, and her loyal servant Thandra. Loranna, with the urgings and
help of Morgiah, has already started making Glacia her protege and adjunct, and
tasked Glacia to help Morgiah organize the various factions offering aid to
resist Mannimarco. Loranna herself, meanwhile sees to preparing the Hist Sap to
protect the heroes to venture into Scourg Barrow.
[1]
Summary: Anya is inside, watching the sun go down. Toying with the Masque of Clavicus Vile, now that she found the belt dampened it's effects, she figures out how she'll feed for the night. [2]
Summary: Shaka, an
Argonian battlemage, has arrived at Castle Daruhn to give Loranna the Spellbreaker
shield.
Shaka watched Loranna depart. After a while, he entered the castle and headed
for the kitchen, planning on seeing what the cooks might have left over.
As he passed by the guest quarters balcony where he had sometimes stood with
Anya, he noticed the Bosmer.
"Good to be back, elf," said Shaka as he approached her.[3]

He walked up to the rail and looked out over the city and forest, the setting
Magnus improving an already beautiful view. "We succeeded in our quest, as
I gather the other groups did. We retrieved a legendary artifact, the
Spellbreaker shield. Long story about the Redguard knight who almost took it
for a personal vendetta, but I'll tell you the details later."
He turned to look at the blonde Bosmer, his gaze softening at the sight.
"How about you? You were going to Cyrodiil, last I heard, and looking into
your legacy."[13]

"The Spellbreaker, you got that?" Anya smiled, "That's a
nice thing to have."
She leaned against the rail, watching the city, "It was... fun. Riechi

information than I could hope to read in a lifetime, lucklily I have a few

got a little something for myself." [18]

[22]
"So I see. More than just ebony in those blades, huh."
"In fairness to the knight, Gancolm, he had been cursed by a bandit; the
obsession wasn't completely his own. . . . So Dayla was there too."
Shaka had mixed emotions still about Anya's mater; it wasn't that many months
ago that she had nearly made him a meal for her new filia, Anya. But Dayla had
seemed to change in Tel Dresori, so Shaka would attempt to follow Anya's lead
on this relationship.
"I have to admit that you've found a new world, a whole history hidden
from mortals. The Bathogorgen could have ruled all the vampire clans, you know?
If it weren't for Ashana's personal grievance against Slyvos, it might have
happened."
He reached out to take Anya's hand.[23]
Summaries:
Valerius, Leiutenant under Commander Slashes-With-Claws, is training his
men....
Valerius strode out onto the training grounds in front of his men. Around fifty
men total, mostly Argonians and Khajiit, with a hodgepodge of the other races
scattered about in the ranks. Some looked guilty, others looked defiant, but
everyone was curious. It was not often that they had all been assembled in
groups of more than ten or twenty.
He stopped in front of them, holding up a letter. "I received this complaint
from a traveller staying at the Noggin," he explained, "In it, he
describes a few of you rather well, with a large and extensive vocabulary. The
adjectives he uses are not complimentary." He glares at a few of the men
in the group, "You know who you are.
"As punishment for this embarassment, we will be taking a little hike this
morning around the city walls." There was a bit of a laughing murmer from
the group, most of them would enjoy watching the offenders marching around the
walls, a pleasure Valerius hoped to dash right now, "ALL of you."
There was a confused murmer from the group. "In full combat outfit,
carrying five days of suplies." Now there was a trace of anger and
indignation in the murmerings of the group. "Twice."
They finished the march an hour later, most of the men collapsing on the ground
in the parade grounds in anger, both at the men who had caused them this, and
at Valerius. He smiled a bit as he walked back into his quarters; he had just
made himself an enemy of his entire squad, hopefully they would stop their
bickering amongst themselves and he could finally begin to get them to work as
a team...

Anya grabbed his hand, squeezing lightly. "The blades were made for me.
Well, made for one like me. Yes... Dayla was there, and taught me a bit more
too."
Anya paused, thinking quietly. After a moment, she spoke up, "I, I wonder
about this world. I like having a place to hide from all others, to work in the
background. It's what I've always tried to do, and this only gives me more to
work with. But it's a scary world."
"I don't know what's going happen, there's only two left. Anya neither of
us are willing to have filia, not right now." [29]
He was quiet for a
while. "I never thought I'd say this, but maybe she or you should get more
filia someday. Safety in numbers, for when animals like the Diodata get out of
hand, or these baby-killers you hear about. Then there's the shapeshifting
ability, something too valuable to be allowed to die out."
Shaka brushed her hair back. "If you ever have filia someday - - and I
guess I'm not ready for the intensity that that bond will require from you - -
make sure you Embrace people who are willing, and worthy of this kind of
immortality. Not the unwilling, or the spiteful, or the selfish." [30]

Anya frowned, glancing away, her face hardening and her eyes momentarily
flaring, "That's something I'd rather not think or talk about right now.
After watching one mater screw up, I'd rather not have that happen to me, or
hurt someone else. It's too much..."
Anya leaned into Shaka, remaining silent, as she worked on regaining control of

ooc: Isidor, male
nord, is back in Ald Raathim, after a trip to Firsthold.
Isidor's brother, Ingmar, is in the Nymph and Noggin, drinking.
Tsei, female argonian, is back in the Nymph and Noggin, sleeping, after going
to Argonia for some tree sap. [41]
Hesek, alias Slashes-With-Claws,
was in Thorn, in north eastern Argonia visiting with his family.
On his arrival his parents were overjoyed to see him. A feast for the whole
family was prepared to celebrate. Live animals of all kinds were brought in,
this would be a bloody feast indeed, one to remember.
His family listened to his tales of Morrowind and the battles he was in. He
showed them the steel finger and claw he had crafted to replace the one he had
lost in battle. The feast was splendid.
As he went to sleep he thought of how he might spend the seventy-five hundred
drakes he got as reward for killing the three criminals. He decided on scale
inlays on the back of his hands: glass beads permanently imbedded in the scales
and enchanted. A Hist tree on the back of his right hand, and something else on
the left, he would decide what in the morning. As he drifted off he pondered
the steel claw on his right hand, maybe in a day it would be a good time to get
a permanent ebony replacement.
In the morning one of his aunts was interested when he told her he was learning
destruction magicka and offered to help in his training. Hesek gladly accepted.
After practicing for a little he found that shock spells were much easier to
cast, and were a little more powerful as well, he could not figure why. The
training switched to one on one combat with training spells, the weakest
destruction spells there are: they would hurt, leave a little mark, but were
not fatal. Again he found that shock came easier, and when he got hit by shock spells
they were resisted more often than other spells. The words of
Hears-the-Whispers came to his mind; the wise marshbrother had said that Hesek
had been marked by the Wamasaii. The Wamasaii were also called lightning
dragons, that must be the cause. Then he decided on what the other scale inlay
would be, a Wamasus on the back of his left hand. [42]

*...Chaseguard,
Hammerfell...inside of the "Staggering Soldier" Tavern we find a pair
of Redguard women having a conversation...one of whom appears to be doing her
best at scrubbing some dirt and grime from a Silverish-Smokey Grey
chestplate...the matching Bracers are already gleaming in the Sun...*
"...and thats when I told him he'd need more cash" the first says
while attempting to wait for the others reaction, a frown across her face as
another clump of crud falls to the ground "...isn't that a funny story? He
was so embarrassed...Ora!! Are you even listening to me?"
Ora finally stops scrubbing her Armor and turns towards Eltina the barmaid
"Yes Tina I'm listening, but you know I'm leaving soon...why is it
everytime I have to leave you tell me about what you and Ral did last
night?"she asks looking at Eltina quite coy
"Because, silly, I always try to loosen you up, so you dont go getting
yourself hurt, or like that time in Anticlere, stuck in the mud" Eltina
says before giggling uncontrollably
A small smile begins to find its way across Ora's face, as she recalls how she
had fallen off her horse and managed to somehow get stuck up to her neck...and
the fact that Eltina nearly died laughing at the sight
"You said you'd never mention that again" Ora says looking rather
embarassed
"I know, I promised, I'm no better then Camel Spit" she begins trying
her hardest not to laugh
"Your right...you are no better then Camel Spit" Ora begins as she
throws the half-caked cloth at Eltina
The cloth smacks Eltina in the face and for the first time since she began
cleaning a boastful laugh finds it's way out of Ora's person...Eltina doesn't
find it as funny as she wipes mud from her eyes
"Ok enough messing around, if I dont finish this I'll never be able to
leave today" she begins "...and you know I've been looking forward to
this trip" Ora continues as she turns to tweak the Armor "...besides
Osa said in her letter it's a really nice town, and I haven't seen her in
ages"
"Yeah but Morrowind" Eltina asks, a look of concern on her face
"I dont think thats the safest place to be right now...besides you'll miss
the festival" she continues switching from concern to a sad puppy dog look
"You act as if I'm never coming back" Ora says "...it's just my
sister. I dont think she'd lead me wrong"
Eltina begins twirling a strand of hair around her finger "But it's always
so boring when your gone...no excitement"
Ora glimpses back over her shoulder "Why are you even complaining? I'm
sure you'll have a hundred more 'me and Ral' stories by the time I come
back" she answers
Eltina gets the pouty look for a second before asking "...what if she
shows up?"
Ora pauses then turns back towards Eltina "...I guess I'll have to deal
with it then" she says most coarse, a long look of angst across her face
"I know Osa wouldn't do that to me" she finishes, finally a smile
returns to her face "you think Ral's finished with my sword yet" she
asks as the streaking cloth smacks her in the face, leaving a brown streak
across her forehead
"I'll go check" Eltina laughs as she runs for the door, Ora right on
her heels
"I know where you live Tina!!" Ora shouts as Eltina does her best to
keep running while containing her laughter
Ora then continues with her preparations of her Armor "Osa wouldn't
hurt me like that...would she?" is all she can think about as she rubs
her head [125]

Hammerfell...Ora makes her final preparations before leaving Chaseguard,
retrieveing her refit sword from Eltina's boyfriend/the town Smith Ral, and
even while waiting for the poor, sick Guild Mage to finish lossing her lunch
admires the craftsmanship in awe...the Ebony Blade it used to have had become
dull and useless so Ora had called upon a favor from Ral to refit her sword
with a new blend of Silver and Steel...her Armor was now freshly cleaned and as
Ora recalled actually hadn't been worn since the Anticlere incident, but
nonetheless would be far more usefell in war-torn Morrowind then her usual
Leather Cuirass...the Breastplate had been custom made for her by Ral, one of
his first real successes, and made a perfect compliment for her new sword...*
*...as she resheathes her new gift, she glances at Osa's letter one last time
to just to make sure she knows where she's going, glad that Osa wasn't in one
of the "Hold" cities, Ora never could get them right, which led to
quite a few longer-then-usual trips...she tucks the letter back in her cloth
bag, and begins to think of what Eltina's doing...probably still messing
around, while Ral's trying to work...and then to Osa...but before she can get
lost in her thoughts the Guild Mage reappears trying her best to compose
herself...*
*Urrp*"Sorry about about the wait" the Mage begins "...I must
have eaten some bad fruit...anyways, where is it you were going again?"
the Mage asks
"Ald Raathim, Morrowind" Ora responds
"Why would you want to go there?" the Mage starts "you do know
theres a war going on right?" the Mage asks inqusitively
"Yes, I've been told...I'm going to visit family anyways" Ora states
as she steps on the 'Eye' "...besides I dont think I'll be there
long"
"Ok then...well good luck" the Mage responds while trying to contain
a burp
*...within a flash Ora is in Ald Raathim, beside the bewilderment of some very
confused looks, and begins her search for the Tavern known as "The Nymph
and Noggin"...after being pointed in the right direction she makes her way
towards the Tavern...for any who may have seen Osa around Ald Raathim thus far,
the sight of Ora should bring about some curious questions as they appear to be
one and the same...except for the Sword and the Armor...* [147]

I regret to inform you that today i will formally resign from the RP. I had
made mistakes and i will accept them, but overall maybe i wasnt really ready to
join the RP. Hey while i was part of the group i had fun, made some friends,
and overall had a great time.
Maybe someday i will return.

Slyvos was starting to feel the memories begin to bear down on him again, as
they tended to do frequently. When he was a lich, before he took over Jazbet's

had his flute with him, as this was not too bad a time to play it anyway... he
felt the need to.

As we walked into the room, he looked for an empty corner seat, a disappointed

the great books on magic he had found, "Mostly in the form of books and
notes. I locked myself in there for awhile, and I have gained quite alot of
knowledge about the various magical schools. I still am not half way done
however, it seems my grandfather had a more extensive library that I had first

[242] "Well enough, I guess. I found a few interesting toys that I guess I'll be forced to take into the Barrow..." Anya muttered, before perking up, "Oh, I've got some texts you might want to mull over. Just copies of passages, I wouldn't... and don't think I could, take the actual books back. There back at my mind with the rest of my gear, I'll drop them by soon."
[244]
Sly's eyes lit up at the mention of the text copies, wondering just what they
might contain... if his deceased daughter had just as much time as him to collect
artifacts and tomes, she'd probably have gotten something that was worth having
him take a look at. damn that girl...
"Heh, thank you in advanced for the copies then. You get anything
interesting for your own use there? cause if she picked up similar habits to me
in terms of collecting, there will definately have been something you'd find
useful there..." [245]

Anya giggled, Slyvos was easy to please. "Actually I did." Anya

He brought it up to his mouth, glancing at the vampiress for a moment. whether

Slyvos' feelings went to produce this music. She realized that many of his

develop scars that grew with each millenia.
She thought back to her family, drawing on the few good memories she retained.
What would it be like in two hundred years, five hundred, one thousand? What

Athaso had arrived safely in Ald Raathim several hours ago and, after
Spellbreaker was taken from him, went up to his room in the Nymph and Noggin to
rest.
He walked downstairs to get something to eat as well as unwind with some
Brandy. Recognizing someone from earlier, he sat down at Sivartus' table,

know, Sivartus, you left me high and dry at that tavern back in Sentinel. I was

The vast temple complex dedicated to commerce was nearly completed. There were
already decorations within, antiquities illustrating commerce and agriculture,
profit and loss, allegorically represented. As befitting such a temple, it was

Alas and Alack welcomed one of their agents, a particularly well-connected

[388] "Let's hope you
can even read the half of them that are written in my native tongue then, or
they might go to waste!" He said with a chuckle, giving Anya a little
shove back in return.
"Speaking as I did before, was because I couldn't keep my thoughts
straight... so I basically just blurted out what little I could focus on at the
time."
[390]
"I think I could learn the language, given time. And hey, like I said,
it's all I have." she said, smiling coyly.
"Well, I suppose it's better blurting out what you could focus on, then
blurting out whatever you were thinking. I'm sure you would have scared one or
two people, and with the Archmagister and that hunter. I can only imagine their
faces." [391]
[392] QUOTE(Sheogorath @ Mar 3 2006, 08:45 PM)
[393] "Two days be the

"As for how they did it," Alack shrugged. "The best beats the
most. Casualties is pretty high, especially for the Alliance. They
doesn't want to retreat, you know."
[395]
"The traditional Dunmer probably hate the Altmer even more than they hate
me," Loranna notes. "And you're right, they're not given to retreating
to begin with ..."
"Two days ... I'll probably be back in Ald Raathim by then ..." she
muses, cupping her chin in her hand and staring at the ground thoughtfully.
"You said first; there's more news than this?" she asks, looking back

'The fleet was
Scattered?'
'Yes, casulties high, we lost the Blacklight and the Tear, the Almvisi managed
to make it out, but is heavily damaged and en route to Blacklight.'
'What about the smaller vessels?' Faryon asked his spymaster
'many tried to board them. We were lucky though, the burning wreckage of the
Blacklight smashed into one of the Altmeri Crusers, taking it to the bottom of
the sea, a few Altmeri ships were damaged, and many of our smaller vessels were
damaged or sunk. At this rate, the fleet will be unable to continue the blockade'
'Absolutely terrible. Any word on Admiral Bradas Vermis? Isnt his ship the
Blacklight?'
'No word from what remains of the fleet yet, but I will confurm that Bradas was
the commander of the fleet.'
'It doesnt seem like him to underestimate the Aldmeri Fleet...' Faryon
pondered, then to his garrison commander, who had been standing in the room all
along, 'How does the drill go?'
'Very good sir, the troops will be ready to march by tomorrow'
'Very well, your both dismissed' [402]

Alas and Alack nodded. There were two known agents of the Queen of Wayrest in
Ald Raathim, and they were regularly watched to see who they talked to. The
Spymasters had considered approaching them to see if they would turn
double-agent, but they wanted to wait first to see if they had anything that
could be used on them -- a skooma addiction, some strange behavior at the House
of Dibella, perhaps a little light Daedra worship, but so far nothing had come

After some brief veiled discussion of appropriate interviewing techniques, the

Athaso smiled, this time as more of a cover up than a relaxed one,
"I..." his voice trailed off and he looked down at his drink, "I

"I think I am going to go find out which of these two is Osa." He

Erenius looks up for

Intending to stay and watch Athaso closely and quietly, the drowsiness of the
twins had an affect on Erenius as well, who also took leave and went upstairs
to his room, one of the many free rooms allocated to his forty. He'd have to
get his money together shortly to pay off what debt his people had accumulated,

Dar'Tessir headed off into the town. He had never held so much money at one
time in his life, not even close.
What do the rich do with their money? They buy fancy cloathes and things.
Dar'Tessir won't do this, this is a vain thing to do. No, he will use his money
for himself, not people who look at him. But what to do...
The first thing he thought of was food. Specifically sweets, he hadn't had
sugar in a long time and like the great majority of Khajiit he had a sweet
tooth. He headed off to a bakery and haggled with the baker over a small and
relativly cheap cake, years of poverty had made him thrifty.
He walked out of the store, munching on his pastry and enjoying it thuroughly. [564]

[567] "Oh she's my girlfriend now is she?" Reeds asks him from behind the counter, "I was under the impression that I had pretty much destroyed all possibility of that ever happening."
[569]
"No, you just sprung too much on her at once ..." Isidor said,
walking further into the book store, and sitting down. "I did the same
thing with Kethiah, I regret to say. But, back to the matter at hand. Glacia
cares for you, she just doesn't know if she loves you. And, honestly, I don't
think if you know if you love her, yourself." [570]

out the obvious or do you have something else to say?" [575]

"Look, Reeds. There's not much else for me to say. Except, calm down. You

"What relationship?" Reeds asks him, "there is no relationship.
I went off on a fools-errand on somethign that wasn't really my buisness in the
first place, whisked her off to the opposite side of the continent, and made
her run away again. Frankly, screaming at doors is rather soothing. But,"

"She does want to come near you, Reeds. She likes you. She just isn't sure

"That's good," Thrandra nodded. "Though it certainly confirms
what Glacia fears, that she led you on. Just think of it from her perspective
for a moment. You're being forced into a marriage to someone you don't love. A
stranger appears who tells you that you don't have to do it. You're inspired by
this, and escape ... and then it turns out the stranger wants you for himself.
You're still grateful for all he's done for you --"
Glacia appeared in the doorway, and walked over to the table.
"Please, just stop," the Altmer said quietly. She was dressed for
meeting Diano Asprenas in a simple yet elegant dark dress which set off her golden

If it were true that she wasn't in love with him, it was obviously equally true

As the food arrived, the conversation turned to other matters: books, business,

Hesek was still in
Argonia, visiting his family. He had just gotten glass beads permanently
inlayed on the backs of his hands. On he left hand was a Hist tree in various
shades of greens, yellows, and some browns. On the right was a Wamasus, in
shades of blue, the color of lightning. The beads for the eyes were especially
bright in color. They had not been enchanted yet, that would have to wait till
he had more money.
He had also commissioned the local smith to fashion a claw of Ebony to replace
the steel finger and slaw he wore. This claw was designed to be permanently
grafted in place with a combination of healing spells and some knife work. [698]

"Come in."
The voice of headmistress Dalavesa Rathryon was muffled by the closed door.
Nalion stepped into her office, greeting her.
"Good day to you, serjo! I have not seen you in some time!", the
Dunmer woman exclaimed, motioning to him to take a seat.
"How is the school faring, Mistress Dalavesa? I fear, most of my latest
days were busy and I had not much time to inquire about you and the
children.", Nalion answered as he took a seat. The mage had redressed from
his trip to Stormhold and now wore a light robe in blue tones.
"Unfortunately, we're still not back to the state we were before the
assault. We have been rebuilding, but furniture and some books have been
destroyed. At least, the roof had been fixed rather quickly. We're still
improvising and in the chaos that was this terrible battle, we've lost writing
supplies and other teaching materials. We'll manage, but it still takes some
time. The children are doing rather well, though, considering that they had to
live through the battle. The shelter at castle Daruhn saved them.",
Dalavesa recounted. "Thank you for sending us copies of the ABC's for
Barbarians this time ago, this Khajiit Dar'Tessir has done a fine job."
"I'm glad that the children are well, Dalavesa. And I am glad that this
school has you. Please keep up the good work in teaching the children.",
Nalion said in an appreciating tone. He reached inside this robe, took a pouch
out and placed it in front of Dalavesa.
"Please take this as a token of my appreciation, Mistress Dalavesa. It's
for the school. Buy whatever you need."
With that, he stood, while Dalavesa took the pouch and peeked in. Then, her
mouth fell open.
"Serjo Nalion... these are more than just a few hundred coins, surely
there is an error.", Dalavesa said, disbelief in her voice.
"Seven-thousand and five hundred. I don't need this money, but you are in
need of help. Repair the damage, buy a few new books and maybe hire a new
teacher. You know much better what is lacking here than I do. - And it is no
error. Have a good day, Mistress Dalavesa."
"I... I.. thank you Serjo. Very much. This will help...", Dalavesa
said, at a loss of words and bowed to him, but Nalion already moved towards the
door, smiling a happy smile. [699]
With her share of the
money, Tsei had bought a small dagger, seeing after the trip to Argonia, how
useful a blade could be. Now, she just had to learn how to use it.
With the other 6,000 in her satchel, she returned to the nymph and noggin, and
bought a drink.
Isidor, on the other hand, went to find Kethiah ... [700]
Skyrim
Stonehills was not an easy place for Loranna to visit; her home village,
Hafgasnar, was but a few miles away, and her mother's cairn a little ways
beyond that, and while the world did not remember that Loranna had been the
Incarnate Mother, she remembered the devestation that had been wrought in this
city, almost two years ago, and she remembered her own actions during that time
- like an old childhood memory of a moment of sheer monumental stupidy,
accpeted and left in the past, but still able to make her wince thinking about
it.
Fortunately, the city itself showed no signs of having been half blown to
Oblivion; Nords were a hardy people and did not let hardships deter them for
long. Also fortunately, the weather was still good, even though summer had
given way to fall, so she would make good time in her travels.
She'd been to Stonehills just the other day, in fact, confirming an old
childhood recollection; while seeking her answers she'd overheard a number of
young men talking about the war in Morrowind, and recalling old tales of the
ancient invasion of the land of the Dunmer by the Nords. Today, though, she
wouldn't be tarrying in the city for very long; once she stepped out of the
Mage Guild, she rounded a corner, sipped a potion, and rubbed her first
husband's wedding band, fading from sight as she floated away from the city.
When she was high enough in the air, she willed herself northeast and flew with
the speed of a panicked parrapton, the wind snapping at the few hairs that
escaped her bun and whipping them in all directions.
Of course, she could have just asked her father about her direction for today,
for she was following the path he and she followed when they left Hafgasnar and
Mista behind all those years ago, but her childhood wasn't something she
lightly brought up with her father, even if he was being a better dad these
days.
For an hour, she flew, keeping to the path she'd been told to follow, until she
could just barely see the the ocean from her vantage point in the air, at which
point she turned more east and descended, gliding low over the snow-covered
ground. The weather had become a bit rougher and the flying had been taking a
toll on her, for she was heavily pregnant and Skyrim was still Skyrim,
but her potion toughened her to the beating of the winds against her skin and
really, what was the point of having brewed such a potion if you didn't use it
when you needed to travel quickly? Nonetheless, the sight of her destination
cheered Loranna greatly and she slowed down, settling gently on the pristine
snow and looking ahead ...[701]
Skyrim
Before Loranna stood a cave, covered in ice; outside the cave the snow formed
dunes and eddies, a few trees bearing delicate icicles. The air was crisp,
cold, invigorating, the snow dazzlingly white, and the icicles hanging from the
trees looked almost like they'd been hung there purposefully, and Loranna
smiled.
Whe she and her father had been first traveling, they passed by this spot; she
had laughed and said she wanted to go inside the cave and explore and play in
the snow but Gram had wanted to keep moving, the day still being young and
Dragon Bridge being only a day or two away. So they moved on, and Loranna
accepted her father's choice because she wanted to make him happy and proud of
her, and gradually her mind stopped thinking of this hidden playground but her
heart ...
And then, her heart told her to head back, over the bridge, to find the
place she missed most of all, for though she loved everything she had seen
there was still one thing she longed for. And so she crossed the bridge and set
foot on a field as dazzlingly white as Allerleirauh's dress, where the air was
crisp and cold and yet welcoming and all around there was white on white,
simple beauty which if looked at closely revealed ever-increasing complexity,
and wonder, and trees with icicles hanging off the branches as though they were
shimmering fruits themselves.
Loranna hurried into the cave, her eyes adjusting to the dimness of the light;
nothing lived here, neither beast nor bandit nor spawn of Oblivion. Ice-covered
stalagmites thrust upward from the cave floor, forming shimmering colums, and
here and there on the walls and roof the ice was so smooth and crystaline you
could almost see yourself in it. One could almost believe that the cave was
magical, though of course it wasn't, but between the cave and the near pristine
field of snow outside was still breathtaking.
More importantly than the beauty of this place, however, was the beauty it
reminded her of, for in this cave and fields were the closest echo Nirn could
offer to Happily Ever After, her special place in True Solunastra where the sun
and the moon go to rest after they drop from the horizon, and where heroes find
their hard-earned, long-deserved reward for enduring the suffering the world
threw their way. And, now, this place would be her gateway back to the land her
heart missed most of all ...
... for the one ingredient the Hist sap needed to fulfill their purpose were
the heartfelt tears of a woman inspired by the beauty that was worth fighting
for, and in her mind she knew that True Solunastra could bring her to such
tears. So she knelt in the snow-covered floor of the cave and held her satchel
close, and she looked out onto the snow-covered fields once and closed her
eyes, letting the echo of beauty guide her to the true beauty that lay beyond
this world.
Her heart trembled, and she shivered, not from cold but from something else,
and she hugged the satchel closer to herself as her mind conjured images of
True Solunastra again, of the orchids and fig trees and splendid oceans and
strange but wonderous machines and the castle, and most of all the land beyond the
bridge, covered in snow, icicles hanging from the trees like fruits ...
... but nothing happened.[702]
Skyrim
"What?" Loranna gasped when she realized nothing was happening.
"I don't understand ... I was sure that would work ... didn't Allie
say come to her ..."
Trying to compose herself, Loranna tried again, focusing her thoughts on the
image of the land her heart missed most of all, willing herself to reach
upward, to pass from Nirn to True Solunastra with the strength of one who knew
that wishing made it so ... but again it didn't work.
Trembling, her heart sinking into a bottomless pit, she sang to herself,
begging the Nine to let her make the journey, but the gods were silent - and
realization shone, stern and uncompromising, on Loranna.
She wasn't a Void Ranger. She couldn't just will herself to True
Solunstra; just because she'd been there once before, could still conjure a
memory of a dream of that happy place, didn't mean she could go there again.
Of course, she should have known that all along, she realized despairingly,
hearing Allie's voice ringing in her head. Who did she think she was? True
Solunastra was not someplace you just ran to when you felt like it; it was the
final reward of true heroes, precious and beautiful beyond compare because you couldn't
just go there on a whim. Stupid, stupid girl, messing with things she
didn't understand all over again in her pride and in her weariness and her
lonliness ...
... for she hadn't thought to find True Solunastra to cry heartfelt tears; she
had sought it because after all the war and pregnancy and horror and trying to
take care of everything she longed for those moments of blissful peace she felt
that one beautiful time ...
... and despite knowing that Allie couldn't be in True Solunastra, for
if she were would not Arynel and Solin have said, some part of her wanted to
look anyway, convinced that she really was there ...
... and the only other person she could think of to get through to Goranthir,
was the woman he loved with all his heart, the Snowskin-named General with hair
of purest silver and eyes that showed no weakness, but spoke of copious
knowledge of pain, and suffering, and compassion ...
"What do I do now?" Loranna wailed, hiding her face in her hands.
"Everything I needed is beyond my grasp ...I told everyone I could do
this, they're counting on me ..." Her hands grew wet as she turned her
head upward, yelling "WHY!!! WE NEED THIS!!! HOW ELSE DO WE STOP HIM - HOW
ELSE DO WE SAVE HIM!!! HOW!!!"
Her tears froze on her face as she sobbed uncontrollably, pulling at her hair. [703]
Skyrim
"Are you just going to sit there in the snow and cry like a baby?"
Images of Allie shaking her head filled her brain for a fleeting moment, then
faded, replaced by a vision of her ashen-skinned self berating her
pink-skinned, Incarnate self. Her hair got in her eyes for a moment, reminding
her of her mother's hair when she last saw Mista, mad as the doG Himself but
having such impossibly long, almost lovely hair.
"Are you Loranna?"
She rubbed her eyes, though she was still shedding tears, and found herself
staring into one of the smoother planes of ice adorning the wall; her vision
was blurry from tears, her semi-reflection in the ice doubled, two indistinct
figures kneeling in the snow.
"... What draws you here?" She became aware of the feeling of the
snow against her legs, cold, chilling, but invigorating, a feeling she loved,
for she knew the snow was holding her, not smothering her, and if it drew the
warmth from her skin well then it acted like a blanket to the earth and she had
plenty of warmth to give, and though others wouldn't think it true, she knew
the snow had warmth to give back.
"Remember who you are." The double images in her tear-blurred vision
shifted a bit, until the one seemed to be behind the other, arms raised to
embrace the other's shoulders. "Come; it's been too long since you've
played in the snow."
Slowly, Loranna got up, slipping off her boots, letting her toes curl in the
snow; a small smile came to her face and she undid her heavy cloak, letting it
fall to the ground with her belt and her robes until she stood in the cave clad
only in the snow that clung to her, that sparkled in her hair like tiny stars.
It was true - it had been far too long since she played in the snow. And
it was lovely snow here, not perfect perhaps but good for dancing in and making
snow angels in and, if she had thought to bring someone along, good for a
snowball fight or two. Snow like that should be appreciated when you find it
...
So she danced; she twirled around the ice-covered stalagmites that thrust
upward to the roof, her feet making enthusiastic footprints in the snow, for in
truth she felt as light on her feet as she did before her pregnancy - no,
lighter still. So she played; she dove into the snowbanks outside and made snow
angels and picked at the smaller icicles hanging from the trees to suck on like
they were fruits, laughing the whole time and reveling in having this whole
field to herself, yet wishing she had friends to share her joy. Occasionally,
she would catch a glimpse of herself in the smooth planes of ice, her doubled
vision showing her dancing with a figure of indefinable beauty; sometimes, when
she made a snow angel, she'd look over and see a second by her side that she
didn't remember making a moment ago.
So she realized, she couldn't just go to Happily Ever After, she may not ever
see that glorious place again and her friends she missed may not be coming
back, and her heart felt the weight of a new sorrow light upon it, but she
accpeted that weight because with it came the memories of the good times which
made the weight worth bearing. And that, she she knew now again, was the same
for all the weights in her heart, and that was why she was here.
So she cried the whole time she danced and she played. She cried heartfelt
tears, silver tears for a beauty worth fighting for, that mixed with the snow
and made its pristine whitness glow in the light of the sun. [704]

and orchids, and other flowery scents.
Then she speaks, in a melodious voice, though Shaka has trouble placing her

Shaka was stunned for a moment, though he had kept his quest in mind for
months. "I'll . . . I'll be right back."

[724]
Shaka can hear a smile in the woman's dulcet voice. "That shouldn't be
necessary, no; everything we'll need is waiting at the House of Dibella here in
Ald Raathim." She beckons to Shaka, holding out her hands to him; he can
see now that she's wearing thin white gloves, matching the polcelain he saw
under her hood.
Before he can take her hands, however, she steps back, beckoning him to follow
her as she leads the way back to Ald Raathim, and the Temple, whereupon Shaka
will find several priests and priestesses waiting for them.
"These ones will take you through the rites of purification, while I
prepare for the ceremony," the robed figure explains.
===
Shaka was bathed in perfumed water, his scales polished until they shone, while
the priestesses sang in hauntingly beautiful, wordless melodies; despite there
being no Argonians among the cleric attending him, the followers of Dibella
seemed to know exactly what to do to bring out the best in the Argonian. Even
though no priest or priestess made any overt flirtations with Shaka, the
experience couldn't help but be at least a little sensual, with the scents of
the perfumes and the flowers in the temple's paradise dancing in his nostrils,
and the voices of the priestesses filling his ears.
Eventully, Shaka was led to a private chamber, the walls aodrned with
tapestries depicting strange, stylized renditions of beasts and men and women.
Brass braziers gutter with dancing flames, throwing dancing shadows along the
tapestries. The robed figure, now clad in a flowing light green robe which
showed that she was indeed wearing a porcelian mask, was kneeling in the center
of the room, three unlit braziers lined before her.
She beckons for Shaka to kneel before her, her mask an exquisite work of exotic
feminie beauty, subtly blending the features of many races into one impossibly
lovely visage. She beckons to the first brazier in front of Shaka and hnds him
a small knife, saying "The blood of an Argonian goes in this one."
"Tell me, Shaka, Argonian who would be Ra'Gada," she asks as she
folds her hands into her lap, "have you ever heard the story of the

[735]
The masked woman tilts her head to the side, regarding Shaka. "You seem a
bit nervous still," she says, her masked eyes on the knife. "Perhaps
the story will calm your nerves ..."
"Know you then, that once, long ago, before the days when the snake men of
Akavir stole an empire and ushered in a new age, there lived a stalwart soldier
who fought for his lord for many years. No braver man was there in all the kingdom,
first in every charge and last in every retreat, and the lord valued this
soldier like no other. However, it came to pass that the wars ended and peace
reigned, and so the lord disbanded his army, telling his soldiers that their
lives were now their own and to find their way in the world."
"The soldier sat himself down and said "When I pledged myself to my
lord's service, I was but a boy, bright-eyed and clean-shaven, with nothing but
the clothes on my back. Now I am a man, whose eyes have seen countless die at
the tip of my sword and whose beard shows the first strands of grey, and I have
the sword at my side and the clothes on my back. There is no more war and I am
unsuited for anything but; clearly I will have to either beg or starve."
And so, having made up his mind, he set off with a heavy heart on the road for
the city, but before he had taken a dozen steps he met a most unusual man,
dressed in the finery of a high-ranking noble but bearing twin horns upon his
head."
""What is this I see before me?" the finely-dressed man asked.
"By your sword and your cloak I see you are a soldier, but by your stooped
shoulders and your dull eyes, I would think you a peasant. Surely some great
calamity has beffalen you, good sir, to weigh you down thus.""
"The soldier, who knew he faced a Duke of the dark void of Oblivion, but
who still had the courage that served him all these years, replied forthrightly
"No great calamity but the simple ending of strife has made me thus, for
there is no more war and thus no more bread and wine for me, save what my
fellow man offers through kindness.""
""The kindness of man is a most chancy thing," the Duke replied,
nodding solemnly. "But, if you are willing to gird your courage once more,
I will offer you kindness. Prove yourself a brave man and I shall provide for
you.""
""One cannot be a soldier without being a brave man," the
soldier replied."
""Then walk with me a little little ways father down the road,"
the Duke replied, "and we shall make camp in a cave tonight that I know."
And so the soldier walked wth the Duke and together they entered the cave,
whereupon lived a fearsome troll. And the troll, seeing but two two-legged
beasts, gave voice to a chilling roar, its massive arms raised to strike and
its hideous maw agape, seeking flesh to bite and tear."
""Oho, you are an impatient one," said the soldier, drawing his
sword, "but fear not; I shall provide you supper for tonight, good troll,
though I fear it is only steel you dine upon." And so the soldier set upon
the fearsome beast and the cave rang with the sound of their battle, but the
soldier's skill surpassed the troll's savegry and with the sword run through
its throat, the troll fell to the earth, its three eyes glazed."
""Indeed you are a brave man, and strong and fierce," the Duke
said, "to fell such a beast with naught but steel. So then, if you would
accept my kindness, swear unto me this oath; that for the next seven years you
shall wear the skin of the troll you have slain, and you shall bear the name
Trollkin, and for those seven years you shall be as a beast instead of a man,
living as a beast, and should you die before those years are up your soul shall
fly into the night and be mine, but if you should live for all those seven
years then you shall have your freedom, and your manhood back, and be richer
than the lord who turned you away.""
"Now the soldier knew that the bargians of Oblivion were never what they
seemed, but he thought of his empty belly and his empty pockets, and having
risked death against mortal foes, he resolved to face death once more.
"Very well; make for me a coat of this troll's skin and I shall wear
it.""
""It shall be done," said the Duke, "and henceforth you are
Trollkin; now, look further in the cave, and you shall see that this troll was
not without treasure." And so the soldier looked further into the cave and
there, sitting on a stone, was the shining coffer of the good King Orgnum,
which always had money when one opened it. And while the soldier was
congratulating himself on his good luck the Duke threw the skin over his
shoulders, bidding him "In seven years, if you still walk and breathe, I
shall return to you and take that coat off; until then Trollkin,
farewell." And with that the Duke vanished."
"So did Trollkin leave the cave, and begin his wanderings in the world.
Now in those days, as in ours, wild beasts and fearsome creatures did wander in
the lands unclaimed by man or mer, and wherever he went Trollkin would protect
those he met from whatever monsters threatened them, for his arms were indeed
as strong now as the troll he had slain, and whenever he saw those who were
poor like himself he always reached into his coffer and bestowed upon them
gold, and bade them pray for him to survive seven years. But though he was strong
and spoke well and always aided those around him, still he was feared wherever
he went, and while he always had gold enough to find a roof when it rained no
mortal bed was big enough for his frame, nor would any share their hearth with
him. And so the years went by and he wandered far and wide, his hands always
open and his heart always heavy."
She pauses in her narartive for a moment, looking at Shaka's hands expectantly.
[736]
Shaka smiled at the
woman. "An interesting story thus far. . . . I choose this freely."
He pierced his left arm with the knife, without taking his eyes from the
woman's eyes, and let blood run into the brazier.[737]

woman. "An interesting story thus far. . . .
I choose this freely."
He pierced his left arm with the knife, without taking his eyes from the
woman's eyes, and let blood run into the brazier.
[741]
The woman lets Shaka's blood pool into the brazier, then gestures with her
hands; a soft blue glow heals Shaka's cut and then a spark leaps from her
fingers, igniting the brazier with a loud FWOOSH! and a roaring flame that
leaps as high as Shaka's shoulder.
"There is still more to tell; we're not even at the halfway mark,"
she assures Shaka, the roaring flame reflected in the perfect porcelian of her
mask.
"Then one day, while wandering through a forest, Trollkin heard a great
commotion before him, and the sound of human voices screaming, and being a good
hearted soul he ran to the sounds of the battle and found a man and a woman,
both wounded, fending of a pack of wolves with naught but sticks. Fearlessly,
Trollkin waded into the wolves, his massive arms swinging like clubs, and soon
the wolves lay dead, but the man swore "Think you will glut yourself on
the flesh of man and wolf tonight, monster? I am bleeding but I've strength
enough to fight the likes of you," and smote Trollkin with his
stick."
""Fear not good sir," bade Trollkin, accepting the blow,
"for I am here to help, not harm; no beast am I but rather a man in
beast's skin, wandering the world under a heavy curse.""
""Father, stay your hand," said the young woman, "Hear him
not speak in the voice of a mortal man?" And the man lowered his stick,
answering "In truth I do Stella, and many thanks my rustic friend for
saving our lives. I be a woodsman, and my cottage is not far from here; our
hospitality is meager but all that is mine is yours for saving my daughter and
myself.""
""My friend," said Trollkin, "your thanks alone are a
treasure greater than any I could ask." And so did the woodsman and his
daughter Stella take Trollkin to their hut, which was threadbare and small, and
where the roof did not totally keep out the chill of the night or the rain. Yet
Trollkin complained not for his accomodations, and Stella gave him a quilt with
which to cover himself for the night, saying "Your limbs are strange and
inhuman but your eyes are those of a gentle, giving man; stay with us as long as
you wish, kind sir.""
""You are gentle and beautiful, my lady," said Trollkin,
"and I thank you from the bottom of my heart; I will stay with you for a
time." And so he did, staying with the woodsman and his daughter and
helping them with their chores and their hunting, and as summer turned to
winter Trollkin and Stella spent many a night talking together, for she had a
charming smile and a soothing voice, and lovedto listen to the tales Trollkin
could tell, and he found comfort in her company, and if the woodsman ever
thought anything wrong of his pretty daughter spending so much time with a
troll, he said nothing of it.""
"But tragedy struck the next spring, for with the melting snow came a
noxisome drake, having slept under the earth the whole winter to avoid the cold
which it loathed, and seeing the works of man in its path it lashed out with
claws and with fire, and Trollkin could do naught against it, for with the
troll's strength he also had its weakness to fire. Finally did Stella and her
father drive the drake off, but not before the cottage stood in ruins and her
father lay broken on the earth, rent by the drake's fierce claws."
"Stella wept, her lovely face streaked with tears. "My father and my
home are both destroyed," she lamented. "Everything I owned is gone;
what will become of me?""
"Trollkin watched Stella cry and his heart broke, and he said "Fear
not my lovely Stella, for I can provide for the both of us.""
""You ... you did nothing when the drake tore my father to
pieces!" Stella cried, beating on Trollkin with her fists. "Who are
you to say you can provide for me!" And Trollkin wished that he would fall
dead that very moment for failing the only person left in the world to show him
the kindness in her heart, and he said "A woman like you deserves better
than a failed soldier like me; take this coffer dear Stella and you will never
want for money. You are young and pretty, and your hands are supple and
skilled; you will become a fine woman someday.""
"Still crying, Stella made to refuse, but Trollkin put the coffer in her
hands and said "It is not right for someone like you to suffer so,"
and with the coffer clenched to her chest she ran off into the woods, leaving
Trollkin alone. Without the coffer of King Orgnum, he could no longer pay for a
roof over his head, nor help those he met with gifts of gold, and so he stayed
in the woods and lived as a beast, hunting deer and fish with his bare hands,
and sleeping in a cave. And though he never harmed a man or mer who set foot in
the forest, those who traveled through the woods muttered in fear at the
shadowy troll that lived in the forest, and Trollkin spoke not with another
human soul. So did several years pass, until it was the remaining days of the
seventh year."
She gestures to the middle brazier, instructing "Pour the blood of the
Redguard into this."[742]
Shaka uncapped the
vial, the crimson within kept liquid through the months by magicka. "The
blood of a king, a good man; though a commoner's would have done as well."
He poured it into the second brazier.[743]

[747]
The masked woman gestures again, and a second spark leaps from her fingers,
igniting the second brazier. This time, the flames leap as high as Shaka's
nose, and he looks upon the robed woman through a veil of dancing flames that
crackle and snap before him.
"Dibella appreciates the effort to procure such rarified blood," she
says with a note of approval. "The blood of a commoner would have done,
but the blood of a good king is pleasing in Her eyes."
"But there is still the ending to tell," she intones, the flames from
the two braziers licking at one another as she continues.
"That year though saw the drake from before return, and it began to attack
travelers through the woods, seeking to fill its belly before its winter long
sleep. When Trollkin learned of the drake, he sighed to himself "Years ago
I failed to stop that beast and lost the only things that mattered to me in
this world; though it will mean my death, I shall go and slay that beast before
it harms another. The Duke shall see me earlier this year than I had hoped, but
no matter.""
"Following the stench of burnt flesh and the devestation left in its wake,
Trollkin tracked the drake to its lair, where it lay upon a bed of gold and
jewels, seeking to copy the manners of its betters. Whenthe drake smelled the
scent of a troll, it rose from its bed of gold and roared, spewing gouts of
flame all around. But though the flames burnt his flesh black, Trollkin said
"You face one with nothing to lose, drake; though your flames will leave
me a charred husk, you will not live to see the next dawn." With those
words was the battle joined, trollish strength pitted against drakian claws and
fire, and the whole forest shook with the sounds of their inhuman cries."
"But though Trollkin had all his soldierly cunning still and the strength
of a troll, the drake's flames burned him severely, and its claws tore at his
flesh. With the world swimming before him, Trollkin sighed "Again I have
failed; darling Stella, your father goes unavenged, the man who loved you
unable to fight any more. Forgive me." The drake, sensing victory, opened
its maw wide to bite Trollkin's head off."
"And then, an arrow pierced the air, sinking into the drake's neck and
causing it to flail around wildly, and Trollkin saw his beautiful Stella,
bearing a bow of ebony, draw another arrow to fire at the drake. The wounded
drake spewed flame, but Trollkin found the strength to push its head aisde to
spare Stella the lethal blast, and togeher, fist and arrow slayed the beast and
the forest was still. Seeing the drake fallen, Trollkin sank to his knees,
feeling his life ebbing as Stella ran to him."
'"My darling Stella, it is too late," Trollkin said sorrowfully but
gently. "The flames have claimed too much of my flesh; I will die
soon.""
""Have I searched for this drake for years for nothing?" Stella
asked, tears flowing from her eyes. "I came to save you, my beloved; don't
give up now, now that I've finally found you." And Stella's tears moved
Trollkin's heart, and he said gently "Lovely Stella, for you I will not
die." So did Stella nurse Trollkin back to health over the next few days,
until the seven years were up and the Duke appeared before both of them,
looking angry."
""I am cheated; your soul was to be mine!" the Duke cried.
"Instead you have given it to this girl!" But there was nothing that
the Duke could do, for the soldier had lived his seven years despite
everything, and so the Duke was forced to take back the troll skin and restore
the soldier to being a man, though he warned "You and yours shall always
have troll's blood in your veins; by this will you remember your ordeal for all
time. Now take the drake's riches and go! I have kept my vow to you, and you
have proven to be a brave man and woman.""
"So Trollkin - for he kept the name he bore for seven years - and Stella
took the drake's gold and jewels and traveled far away, where they used their
riches to live without want and to provide for any who needed help; in time a
city grew where they settled and they became its rulers, and their son went on
to become lord of the lands surrounding the city, with the warcraft and troll
blood of his father and the beauty and gentle voice of his mother, and the
kindness of both together. And ever since that time, any born of that line have
been called Trollkin, watched over by the Lord in the night sky."

The third brazier ignites with such force that it nearly tips over, the flames
leaping above Shaka's head; he sees a brief flash of green behind the roaring
flames, and then he feels silk against his scales.
"So inspired by her beauty that you'll give up her feelings for you, for
her sake," the woman's voice whispers into Shaka's ear, as she secures her
green robe around his waist. "Willing to submit to the Goddess's will to
find your true self ... your sacrifice is worthy, Shaka."
"Go now," she says, raising a second mask, carved from jade in the
form of a troll's head with glittering rubies for eyes. "You have put your
faith in the Goddess; seek Her in the form of your Anya and ee what your
sacrifice has wrought. Always remember, though; Desire lives and dies by the
flame of passion. Keep the fire of your passion strong, or else our work this
day will be for naught."
Then, the fires in the braziers die down, and Shaka is alone in the chamber,
msked and robed, the woman's last words echoing in his ears: "Take not the
mask off until you have seen her." [768]

[770] Then, the fires in the braziers die down, and Shaka is alone in the chamber, msked and robed, the woman's last words echoing in his ears: "Take not the mask off until you have seen her."
[772]
Shaka wondered if he had been granted a vision of Dibella; or had she been a
priestess? He'd never know.
Shaka kept the mask on, but had a sinking feeling in his stomach. Nothing felt
different.
He made his way out of the temple, still masked, and walked to Anya's mine.
Were you once a mortal yourself, Dibella? he wondered. There were legends. . .
.
Still, Shaka wasn't sorry that he had made the attempt to change, this day. At
last, he stood before the massive door to Anya's sanctum. [773]
Anya rested in her
bed, her arms raised. Her skin rippled and crawled, hardening and shaping in to
intricate patterns as she worked on maintaining complex shapes. Her mind was
hardly focused on the task, though. Her mind replayed her converstation with
Slyvos. His life had been so long that he only retained one or two of the
strongest memories of those he orginally loved. What would become of her? It
was not a feeling she wished to dwell on, but refused to leave her alone.
The three argonian brothers stayed in the first room, tidying up. Dull eyed,
their lives revolved around maintaining her abode, which she thought pleased
them immensely, if that was possible. One noticed a noise of a man walking
outside, and approached the door, opening it. [774]

Someone not under a Charm glamour would have been startled, Shaka knew, but he
saw with sadness that the Argonian cattle hardly reacted to the sight of the
robed and masked Shaka.
"It's I, the one who has been here before," said Shaka, and brushed
past the cattle. Shaka walked back to Anya's living quarters.[779]

[783]
Anya's ears perked and she sat up. I need to remind them to not just let
people enter as they please. Her nose wiggled though, detecting a new scent
mixing in her mine, familiar and new. She slipped to the edge of her bed,
remaining pensive.
Her glowing eyes studied the robed figure intently, her face thankfully not
betraying her of her emotions. her cherry tattoo stood in stark contrast with
her pale skin as she left any pretenses behind. "Do you plan to stand
there stoically?" [784]

Shaka sighed. "Guess not, elf. Now that I've seen you, I'm allowed to
unmask." He reached up and took off the ogre mask, walking to Anya's
bedroom mirror. "Well, at least I tried the Dibellan route . . . ."
He froze at the reflection, then approached the mirror in wonder. A Ra'Gada
much like his true self glimpsed in the Spheres of the gods looked back at him.
Tall as any Nord now, Shaka was hairless; but as he ran a hand over his head,
he realized that it would soon start to grow in.

Anya walked over to Shaka, standing behind him. She brought her hand up,
touching his cheek lightly, running it over his dark skin, pausing on his soft
neck. She ran it to his shoulder, and spun him around so she was facing him,
putting a finger on his lips. "So soft now..."
She smiled light, leaning into him, murmering, "Took you long
enough." Anya leaned foward and kissed Shaka. [794]
Hesek's last day in
Argonia was most enjoyed. He hunted with his father and some friends. They were
natural hunting, hunting with claws and teeth only. It made the hunt more
challenging and enjoyable. The hunt had gone well, he made the first kill,
eating it right then and there, as was appropriate.
the ebony claw he had commissioned was done. With the last of the reward money
he paid for an enchantment of health absorption on it. He would heal himself
whenever he struck an enemy or creature with that claw.
With the aide of expert healers the end of Hesek's finger, where his real claw
should be but was missing from, was cut open with a knife. The ebony claw
inserted in place, and the flesh healed around it. It felt strange, but he
would get used to it. He looked at it, it was blacker than his other claws, but
it looked like he had never lost a claw in the first place. He was lucky that
it was just the tip of his finger that was shot off by that arrow.
He said his final good byes and took the Thorn guild guide back to Ald Raathim.
Commander Slashes-With-Claws went to the barracks to see how his men had done
during his absence.[795]

[799]
Shaka knew it was a good kiss when it became difficult to tell how long a time
had passed. Finally he broke off and smiled down at Anya in his arms. It was
difficult to speak and still keep a steady voice.
"How do softskins manage without a tail? I almost feel unbalanced . . .
but it'll pass." Shaka walked over and closed the door.
He closed his eyes briefly before walking back to Anya. Thank you, Dibella;
and all gods. I'll try to deserve this. [800]

wanted to do..."
She manuveured both of them to her bed, pushing him so they sat on the bed with

Shaka buried his right hand in Anya's hair and returned her kiss, slipping the
robe off her shoulders. He stopped and searched her face, wondering if Anya
were past her nightmare years as a sex slave. Shaka's eyes had changed the
least of all.
Reassured by what time and Telera had done, he embraced Anya.

After a good dinner and a few hours, Reeds found himself wandering the streets of Ald Raathim, taking in the night air.
