Hello,
and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and
socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
Loranna's Roleplay, while an open roleplay where everyone is invited to
join, is not a limitless or unregulated game. There are rules we have set
ourselves that make roleplaying easier and more enjoyable for everyone of us.
Please take the time and read the following guidelines carefully and, more
importantly, act according to them.
1. Have fun!
2. Fun does not mean you can do whatever you want, though.
Let us please clarify some points. While everyone is welcome to join in, they
are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING
IT FIRST. Let's be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:
Affecting other characters:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission,
many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission,
either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or
otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player
involved.
Major Events:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political(converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
For the purpose of coordinating this RP, backstage fun and discussing current
and future events, we have established a chatroom on chatspike.net, chatroom
#Loranna_RP. We strongly recommend that you have a glimpse in there, since it
is the easiest and most convenient way to discuss characters and settings,
explain rules, plan and give you the background information you need to play in
this RP. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player
whose character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them
using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to
you.
Here are various other rules, tips and information you should take time
to read before joining this RP:
1. Background History:
Loranna's RP has accumulated a rich background history. Of course, no-one can
know all that has happened in this RP, but it is important that you have at
least an idea about the major events that took place during the last
one-and-a-half years. There are a few posts of Loranna that explain the history
of the RP from her character's viewpoint and a summary of the events in the RP
is in progress, you can find them
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html. Another summary is available as
text file from Nalion, please ask via our chatspike channel or per PM to Nalion
for the time being. We are working on a more permanent solution to provide this
information.
The chatroom #Loranna_RP on chatspike is probably the best and fastest way to
get yourself informed about the RP, just ask the moderators and long-time players
there if you need any information. They will gladly help you. It is also very
advisable to read up on the most recent posts and threads to become a grasp of
what is happening right now in the RP. This will significantly help you in
finding a way to join the action and will reduce the probabiliy of mistakes.
2. Reading and catching up on the RP:
We're a dedicated lot of players, and we love this RP. This means we put a lot
of effort in our posts, do a lot of planning and discussing to create our
plotlines. This requires time and dedication. And we require this of you as
well. This means, take your time to read the posts of the other players and
take the time to catch up on the plot if it progressed while you were away.
This simplifies your rejoin into the action. It is also a sign of respect to
the other players. If you don't have the time to read their posts, why should
they bother with yours, then?
Again, please let me repeat this, for it is very important. If you are not able
or willing to put time and at least reasonable effort in this RP, think again
whether you want to join this RP or not.
3. Gathering information
Gather information about the RP, be it asking in chat, by reading older posts
and getting up to date on the history or by asking via PM. No-one can know
everything, sure, but everyone can ask about what happened. We're glad to
assist! Again, this can not be done without some interest in the ongoings in
the RP, effort and a good bit of dedication.
4. Roleplaying
Roleplaying doesn't just involve making your character say something
(in-character chat). It also has a descriptive element. Motions and emotions of
your character, worries, joys, mimics, movements... we want to see them!
Describe how your character acts, this gives you a better grasp of your
character and will help your fellow players build up a relationship to your
character. It's not only action and big fights we have here in this RP, there
is a major social aspect to it as well.
5. Posting
Try to take your time to post. Yes, we are aware that there are hectic scenes,
like in big combats, where some things move faster, but is it in general a good
idea to look over your post again to check it. Yes, we know it sounds stupid
and obvious, but please care about spelling, punctuation and grammar. They are
not just things you learned in school once to forget afterwards. We are no
decryption experts. Those grammar rules have their meaning, and there are tools
out there to help you(word spell checker for example). Again, the chat is a perfect
way to ask for
time and coordinate with other players if you have problems.
6. Character control / multiple characters
Once more, about controlling characters that belong to other players: You
cannot control a character that is not your own (with a few exceptions, like
having talked to the player of the character beforehand). This means most of
the time the following:
* In combat, you can only try to attack another character, but whether
you hit him or how much damage is inflicted is up to the player of the
character, and only him/her.
* This applies to healing or helping the character as well; feel free to try
and offer help to a character, but let the other player describe the effects of
the healing/helping.
* Especially in combat, you have to work closely with the other players, the
chatroom is the best and easiest method to discuss these things.
Another thing related to this topic is referring or speaking to other
characters whose players are not online. If possible, try to avoid involving
characters when their player is not present. It ties down your character while
waiting for the other player to come back, and you don't know whether the
respective player has other plans when he is back.
Additionally, avoid generating scenes where you involve a character, affect him
with an action and finish the action before the player can react (stealing,
attacking, casting spells or similar actions). Example: No running up to
someone, rob him and run away to safety all in one post. This is a no go.
Controlling multiple characters. We have no written limits on how many
characters you may control; the limit is you. In general, it is very advisable
that you stick to one character when you are new to RPing. When creating a
character, it is VERY important that you consider your character carefully.
Again, this has something to do with effort and dedication. It is generally a
bad sign if you join up, post a couple of posts and then say you are bored with
this character and make a new one. Other players might get annoyed greeting and
introducing their characters to a new character when it is obvious that this
character will not last long because the player gets bored with the new
character. This RP is a social RP as well, and it is very difficult to socialize
with a character that is badly played, where you can see by the style of
writing that the player is already bored with the character and will throw him
away at the next opportunity. RPing is all about characters and your character
is your "representative" in this RP, your voice, your arm, your mind.
Please take this into account when creating and playing your character.
As a general rule of thumb, use only one character until you feel comfortable
with him, can control him, have fun with him and the character is established
in the RP. The rest will run automatically after a while when you get more
confident and experienced in RPing.
7. Secret plans
Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're
revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards
they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them. Examples: Your character
suddenly remembers that he has a castles all over Tamriel and calls in troops
to help. Or: Your character suddenly reveals he is a spy of the Emperor and
knows everything.
8. Ingame consequences of character actions:
Morrowind the game was rather lenient when it came to direct consequences after
a character's action. This is not the case in our RP. There are laws and local
customs, and there are guards and other authorities that are there to enforce
them. So, starting tavern brawls, stealing, murdering, open assault and all
other related actions are very likely to be persecuted and punished (this can
go up from your character ending up in jail, being banished or to be executed).
This doesn't mean that there are no murders or thefts in the RP, but it does
mean that if you do that, be aware of the consequences your character will have
to deal with.
9. Additional helpful information:
Please make sure that you read the following post of Allerleirauh
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855,
dealing with some of the above mentioned rules, as well as the hints on
character generation done by Loranna
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=3828224.
Please take the above mentioned rules and information into careful
consideration, they will help you in joining this RP quickly and are useful to
avoid problems. And more importantly: act according to them!
** Not following the above advice will only result in two things: your
post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone else as if it did not
happen and/or you are asked to leave the RP. This is obviously not good for
anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them and act according to
the rules mentioned above. **
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna: Loranna is in Ald Raathim, having met with the esteemed
Archmagister of the Mage Guild, Hannibal Traven, and his silent companion, the
undead hunter Charroah, and met again with the formidable Morgiah. Together,
she and Morgiah have just watched Traven conduct an intense, though outwardly
friendly, interview of her husband Slyvos, going as far as to poke around in
his private study. Loranna agrees with Morgiah that they're not out of hot
water yet ...[1]
Valdroon Tradas,
I am sending you this letter in confidence. I need you to undertake a certain
task for me to secure the future of House Indoril, and to secure the borders of
Kragenmoor District.
I have heard from our mutual friend, the Magistrate of Cheydinhal, that the
Famous Forger, Llana Arydon has taken up residence in the city of Ald Raatham.
I would like one of your agents to track down Ms Arydon so she can create us a
forgery. Now, it is most likely that Ms. Arydon, residing in Ald Raatham is
under the employ of Duchess Pyrel, and that is quite important to the overall
goal of our mission.
I would like our agent to get a fake letter printed up, with the Royal Seal,
ordering the large majority of the Garrison at Verannis Hall to withdraw for an
expected assult of Tel Sigrid. next, I want this letter to fall into the hands
of my cousin, Councilor Indoril Rayis, and that old fossil, Neldam Othren. The
desired outcome is that these two commanders will plan an attack on Verannis
Hall, without informing the council, in an effort to show up us moderates.
Now if everything goes to plan, Ms. Arydon will inform Duchess Pyrel of the
letter, and hopefully, she is smart enough to let it be, reinforcing the
garrison at Verannis Hall, and eventually disposing of our spy when he returns.
Make sure the agent you send is disposable, and do not inform him of any more
of the plan that is necessary.
I have full confidence that you can achieve this outcome, and I wish you well.
Tomorrow I begin my journey to Wayrest, I expect good news from this mission.
May the three be with you
yours Faithfully
Councilor Indoril Faryon [2]
Summary
Nalion
Nalion, a male Breton mage, is currently in the library, after accompanying
Loranna, Slyvos and the Archmagister's entourage. The mage had remained silent
throughout the conversation, but has listened carefully.
Dana
Dana, a Redguard female healer, is in process of recovering from a heavy
hangover. To her, the drumming she feels in her head right now would dwarf the
beating of the Heart of Lorkhan...
Gistral
Gistral, a Redguard warrior, is roaming through town, organizing the reconstruction
as much as he can. [3]
Summary: Shaka, an
Argonian battlemage, has met his godson Eodir for the first time. After talking
for a while with Kethiah and the two spymasters Alas and Alack, he has excused
himself and is walking through town and thinking about the day so far.
Shaka felt like sharing his day, so a while later found himself knocking on the
door to Anya's mine. [4]
Summary: Anya has spent the last while at her mine, feeling less than motivated
after meeting with her mater, and talking with Nalion.
Shaka was greeted by one of the argonians before Anya could reach the door. A
second behind the brother, she dismissed him and smiled, if a bit hesitantly,
at Shaka, "And what do I owe to this visit, Shaka?" [5]
"Just felt like seeing you, Anya," he said. "Mind if I come in for a while?"[6]
Summary
Erenius is at the Nymph and Noggin, piecing together the rumors circulating
there, sorting truth from hearsay. [7]
Anya shook her head, opening the door and motioning for Shaka to come in. "N-no, not at all. Make yourself at home. So what have you been doing, Shaka, anything interesting?" [8]

[10] Anya shook her head, opening the door and motioning for Shaka to come in. "N-no, not at all. Make yourself at home. So what have you been doing, Shaka, anything interesting?"
[12]
He looked around the mine as he walked to the main living area. "The place
doesn't look too bad, I think you've fixed it up a little. . . . Well, this
morning I got Slyvos out of the castle and working on the grounds with me. I
thought it would be therapeutic for him, get him away from brooding and guilt.
I think it helped him a little, that and talking."
"I looked at the new square in town, where they've put the Embassy and the
Temple. Wasn't that long ago that some of the streets were still dirt, or
cobblestones at best. Ald Raathim's growing up even more."
"Kethiah's out of bed now, and I met Eodir for the first time." Shaka
smiled slightly. "I think I'm going to like being a godfather."[13]
Anya frowned as she
sat down, "Isidor asked me to be the godmother. But I haven't even seen
Kethiah or the baby, not a good start."
"Thank you for helping Slyvos, it wasn't a good ordeal for him, or
anyone." [14]

"Thank you for helping Slyvos, it wasn't a good ordeal for him, or

[18]
Shaka took Anya's hand for a moment. "Maybe you can visit them soon, then.
I think you'd be a good choice, when you think about it. Couldn't ask for a
stronger protector, or a longer-lived one."
"I've been thinking about what responsibilities I could take. Make sure he
learns about his Nordic heritage, but also go with him to Temple and learn the
ancient heritage of the Dunmer. . . . Stupid, but I'd like to see him find a
girl someday, be around for his wedding."
"You could help with things, Anya. Pick up the torch when it falls from my
hand someday. Live into the Fourth Era with your godson. . . . Just dreams I
guess."[19]
Anya huffed slightly,
"Shaka, why must you constantly remind me of that fact! I know I'm
immortal, but you don't have to make it a point of reminding us every chance
you get."
Anya brough her hands to her face, slumping her shoulders, "I'm sorry...
I've just been on edge lately. What do you think I could teach Eodir? My
skillset isn't exactly family- or child-friendly." [20]
"You're right,
that story's getting to be old. Sorry. . . . As for what you could teach, maybe
you're more adaptable than you think. If nothing else, you could train him to fight.
I have the feeling the Fourth Era is going to be a challenging one, maybe as
much as some of the earliest eras."
"He's the son of killers, one a professional, the other in a one-time
crime of passion. But so what. I looked at his face today and saw only
acceptance. A lot of potential there, Anya."
"Anyway, visit them sometime and decide for yourself."
Changing the subject, he asked her if she had talked to Dayla after Tel
Dresori. [21]
Anya's eyes glanced
back and forth, wondering if she should tell anyone about Dayla.
"Well... yes. It was odd, to say the least." [22]

[24] Anya's eyes glanced back and forth,
wondering if she should tell anyone about Dayla.
"Well... yes. It was odd, to say the least."
[26]
"In what way? What did she talk about?"
Shaka still felt uneasy about Dayla, especially their first encounter with the
shapeshifter - - the day that led to Anya losing her life. All of Shaka's mage
experience, turned to nothing by Dayla's charm magicka. Even more confusing
that Dayla was easy on the eyes. Hell, charismatic.[27]
"She, she was different. But mostly she told me about my inheritance. I seemed to have amassed a sizable fortune in servants, money, and knowledge. I just only know the about one place where it's kept though." Anya said. She avoided the subject about their mater-filia relationship, uncomfortable to even speak to Shaka about that. [28]

[32]
"Inheritance? . . . From Ashana's death, I guess." Shaka tried to
grasp the implications.
"Looks as if you really are the Queen of the Night. Another example of how
you've grown beyond your old role of woodelf Rogue. I know the servants and
maybe even money don't mean that much to you, but this isn't something to cast
aside lightly."
Shaka felt a little sad, thinking of how Anya was evolving and moving on,
whereas Shaka was . . . what? Comfortable in his old ways?
"Maybe I should head out, call it a day. I'd ask to stay tonight, but you
seem to have a lot of thinking to do. One thing: it's not just Morgiah who's in
town this week; but also the Archmagister of the Mages Guild, Hannibal Traven.
Watch yourself for a few days, he's an unknown quantity."
He studied the Bosmer vampire, her porcelain skin. "Are you going to be
all right, after Tel Dresori? Aside from the obvious challenges of your
vampirism." [33]
Anya studied Shaka,
her face creasing in worry. "Shaka..."
Anya shook her head, shoving a thought out of her head, "I'll be fine,
hopefully. And I'll keep my wits, thank you."
Anya stood up, "Would you walk me to Ald Raathim? I think I might pay our
new mother a visit." [34]
His mood brightened a little. "I'd like that." He waited outside as Anya locked the door to the mine.[35]

there and haven't seen her since I left firsthold." Reeds tried to dcide
how to phrase what he was about to say, and decided frankness would be his best
option, "She doesn't love you. When I last saw her, she was already
considering leaving. I was probably the grain of sand that tipped the scales in
that direction, so I guess this is partly my fault."
"As far as information, that's really all I can tell you."
[93]
"I see," Count Terilite replied stiffly, standing up. "Thank you
for you for being so informative."
Without another word, he left the bookstore.

[95] QUOTE(Nalion @ Feb 18 2006, 04:58 PM)
[96] Dana sat in a corner of the Nymph and
Noggin, staring down on her plate of guar steak. A mug of ale stood besides
her. Her father had always said that if you suffered from drunkness, it helped
if you drink more of the stuff. She didn't really believe him, though.
Without much motivation, she pricked the guar steak with a fork, then began to
eat.
The presence of P'rassha, despite his size, didn't really make her look up.
[98]
P'Rassha, however, did noticed the Redguard lady at a table. After a moment of
silence, he finally agreed to the pressures and accepted to tell a story. An
hommage to a great Nordic Hero.
P'Rassha managed not to stare at Dana, but all his mind was focused on her
presence when he began his story.
"Love can be a treacherous ally, just as hatred can be a helpful enemy.
P'Rassha knows that. During his travels to Skyrim, P'Rassha heard a legend
about one of the first Nedic settler to ever set foot on Tamriel. It was a man
called Hans the Fox. This man has other names and legends to his account, but
P'Rassha will focus on an aspect often forgotten about heros: their hearts.
Hans the Fox was, according to the legend, either a bandit, an exile or an
orphan with nothing to call his own. With a boat not even fit to cross a river,
he managed to reach the continent of Tamriel from Altmora." [99]

[101] "I see,"

[103]
Reeds returned to his work. So Glacia was gone. Reeds felt a great deal of
conflicting emotions. On the one hand, Glacia was free of the Altmer high
society, something she despised. On the other, said society would probably be
hunting her for months, something that would not be good for her or Reeds. On
the other hand Reeds was concerned for Glacia. Where would she go? Unless Reeds
was mistaken, he didn't think that Glacia would be used to how the other half
lives. On another hand, there was self-preservation vying for attention.
Despite the Count's boasting about not quaking and quailing, he knew he had
shaken him. Exactly what he would do after he regained his composure would yet
to be determined, but Reeds had a feeling it would not be a happy event for
him.
Cutting off his musings abruptly, Reeds realized that he had mentioned four
hands. Shoving the matter out of his head for the moment, he bent again over
his work. [104]
Soon enough, P'Rassha's
mind wandered from Dana to the story at hand. He took a mysterious stance and
continued.
"In fact, the boat didn't bring Hans all the way to Tamriel. A few
kilometers away from the coast of what is now Skyrim, Hans's boat sank and the
Nedic's body was almost lost to the sea.
He woke up on a frozen coast, on the verge of the death from the cold weather
and the wounds on his body. The ice and sharp rocks of the sea were not gentle
with him. Fortunatly, he was found by travellers. They were from an ancient
race now transformed past the point of no return. They were Orsimers.
Why they were away from their homes at that time, the story doesn't say. But
this day, during the Merethic Era, mer saw for the first time the shape of men.
At first, they thought a monster was washed away by the sea, but as they
approached, they realized the body on the coast was almost one of them. It was
muscular, broader than the strongest of mer, and white-skinned. His ears were
also different, smaller and round, but past these difference, it was a mer like
them." [105]
"The three
Orsimer, tall and beautiful, saved Hans from certain death, gave him clothes
and food, and transported him in front of their clan elder. She was trully a
wonderful woman. Even the centuries of her life didn't alter the perfection of
her face and skin. Her garments were rich and revealed just enough to appeal to
men's desire. At that very moment, Hans, who felt back into unconsciousness
after the three Orsimer found him, opened his eyes and witnessed the beauty
itself. The closest mortal image possible to perfection. Needless to say, Hans
felt in love with the creature he had in front of him. She was not his kind,
gold-skinned and pointy eared, yet Hans knew she was the one he dreamt about
all his life. The woman of his heart."
P'Rassha took a moment to breathe and continued.
"And all the Orsimer who witnessed the encounter noticed Hans feelings
were shared by the elder. They stayed silent, the story says, for two hours
before one of them dared to break the silence. In fact, everything they wanted
to say was clear as water; their eyes said more to each other than a thousand
books." [106]
Dana noticed the small
crowd listening to P'rassha and looked up from her plate for a moment. The
Khajiit seemed to stick out of the crowd like a mountain of... fur.
The Redguard bard shook her head lightly as she heard the story, then flinching
as the sting of the headache returned because of this quick motion. She took a
deep swallow from her ale, grimacing as she set the mug down again. [107]
"The Orsimer lady
was the first one to speak. She said her name was Niferti gra-Aldsran and that
she needed help. Her people was trying to save the mer from war. The Chimer and
Dwemer were fighting over the same land and mixed the territory claim with
ideological strife.
The Chimer worshipped their ancestors and the Dwemer only believed in
astronomy, alchemy and mechanics. The two people were brothers, yet spilled
their bloods like sworn enemies.
Niferti noticed Hans's muscular stature and witty eyes and knew he was a fine
strategist. In addition, she wanted him by her side, as close as possible to
him, for eternity." [108]
Bob sat down near
Dana. "Lovely bard, if you'd excuse my boldness for sitting with
you."
Bob passed a small bowl to her, "I noticed you wincing, here, take this,
it will assauge the headache." [109]

Bob chuckled, "I've been a cook a long time, dear. You don't spend time
cooknig and not see a morning when someone was sorry for the drinks they had.
You tend to learn remedies for that. This is just a simple soup with a mixture
of herbs. I've masked the bitter taste, but not even one such as I have made the
taste impeccable. I have the list of herbs in the kitchen if you're a bit

[123]
"Couldn't be worse than the headache...", Dana muttered, still
looking somewhat doubtfully into the broth. "I think I don't really
want to know what's in there anyways.", she thought.
She tooke the bowl in both of her hands and drank carefully, after a while,
draining it completely.
It tasted strange, to say the least, and as Bob had said, there were remains of
bitter tase tickling her tongue. However, it wasn't unpleasant. As she set down
the bowl, she felt her head clearing up slowly.
"Amazing...", she muttered, rubbing her temples. [124]
P'Rassha asked for his
bag still hanging close to the bar and retrieved a long fox-furred coat.
"At first, the help of Hans the Fox to the Orsimer was that of a fine
thinker. Hans survived wars, famines and diseases and knew a lot about the art
of combat. He was able to guess the places of future skirmishes between Chimer
colonists and Dwemer architects. With that insight, the Orsimer were able to
refrain bloodshed and violence, but the animosity between the two clans were
still at his peek.
Therefore, Hans decided to act by himself, something Niferti was against. She
didn't want to risk the life of her beloved - at that time, the two of them
were openly having a relation - even for the good of the mer. But Hans's will
was stronger. He made a garment out of fox-fur and wore it as if he was a
monster. With that disguise, he single-handlely defeated Chimer AND Dwemer
patrols, taking good care of leaving survivors. Needless to say, such acts were
despised by the Orsimers, but again, Hans followed his own heart.
The Chimer and the Dwemer, clueless about who or what was attacking them,
pointed in the direction of their enemies. Chimer thought the Dwemer created
the "Fox", while Dwemer accused the Chimer to backstab them with a
horrible necromantic creation.
Meanwhile, new nedic settlers arrived from Altmora, and as the Fox kept
attacking the two mer races, the latters slowly thought the enemy might be a
third party." [125]
"The Orsimer were
against Hans's actions, but as the "Fox" was creating fear out of
Chimer's and Dwemer's heart, the two nations forgot to fight against one
another and concentrated their efforts into a common enemy.
At that time, Hans the Fox was regularly meeting Niferti gra-Aldsran and even
though they differed ideologically speaking, their love was still as strong as
the first day. It was during one of their meeting that Niferti shared with her
lover one of her biggest concern.
Their spiritual leader, Trinimac, the Champion of the elven pantheon, was in
danger. It appeared the half-god was trying to learn the identity of the
dollmaster who pulled the strings of the conflict. And if Trinimac himself had
not the answer to that question rightaway, it meant the mastermind wasn't a
mortal.
With all the love of his heart, Hans reassured Niferti and went back into what
is now called the Velothi mountain to continue his struggle." [126]
"And then, when
the Fox was figthing the Dwemer and the Chimer, Trinimac was tricked by
Boethiah. The Daedra Prince didn't want the struggle between the mer races to
stop and ate Trinimac. While he journeyed through Boethiah's intrails, the body
and the spirit of Trinimac was transformed into something else, the Daedra known
as Malacath. At the same time, his followers, the Orsimer, were transformed as
well. The beautiful Niferti gra-Aldsran became something else. Her skin turned
green, her teeth grown into fangs and her beauty turned to horror.
P'Rassha wants to warn all the Orcs and Orcs' friends P'rassha doesn't believe
Orcs are ugly. But imagine for a second an elf turning into an orc and how that
elf would feel about his appearance."
P'Rassha sat down and continued the story.
"At first, Niferti didn't know what to do. She prayed for Trinimac to show
himself for days before, eventually, she had a vision.
With Trinimac's voice, Boethiah talked to Niferti and showed her something her
heart couldn't stand. She saw her lover, Hans the Fox, pushing her away from
her, disgusted by her new appearance. She saw Hans the Fox in the arms of a
Nedic woman. She saw her own death, at the hand of the Chimer.
Her heart broke and she died from sorrow.
Several days later, Hans the Fox came back to Niferti and noticed for the first
time the transformation of the Orsimer. They were all mourning the death of
their elder, and showed Hans to the final resting place of Niferti. Even though
her body was transformed, the Nedic barbarian cried over his lover's body,
loving her as much as she loved him.
And then died Hans the Fox. He built a large boat and came back to Altmora. The
legend says he came back years later with an army of Nedic warrior and started
the Conquest of Tamriel under the name of Ysmir." [127]

Shaka will learn, as will anyone seeking an audience with Loranna, that the

"Don't say ye 'eard this from me, but the Duchess and Duke were sounding a

was terrible at recognizing how old an Argonian was.

Up in the study, at that moment, Loranna sighs and shakes her head.
"Husband, you are infuriating at times," she sighs, sipping a glass
of Wayrest wine. " ... I'll try talking to the Archmagister alone before
we all get together again, see if I can't smooth things over ..."
Another servant announces "Master Shaka to see you, Your Grace."
"Oh?" Loranna asks, raising her eyebrows and looking over to Slyvos.
"Very well, show him up." As the servant went to admit Shaka Loranna
says to Slyvos "It was a good time to change the subject anyway ..." [133]

"I've waited to hear back from the House of Dibella in Cyrodiil for months

passively for it; I need to stand up for myself. The idea of becoming Ra'Gada .

"Of course the war took priority, and the tragedy in Dres Minsero's lands.

course, we fought vampires just a few days ago. And we are an asset for the
Mages Guild. We travel a lot, and much travel is done via the guild guides. And
I won't speak of the use we make of their other services, like potions and the
summoning room..."
[200]
"Any adventurer in town is good business for a mage guild, and we've got
plenty of adventurers," Loranna mutters, grinning just a bit. "I
think Morgiah said it best; we are allies of the Archmagister, we just need to
let him see it ..."[201]
QUOTE(Dagoth Lich @ Feb 18 2006, 11:21 PM)
[202] "if we need to
emphasize this, then perhaps... a demonstration?" slyvos says offhandedly
from out of the blue. "after all, what better way to show him how much we
abhor necromancy then to kill practioners of it in front of him?"
Of course, this might have just been leftover anger attempted to get vented
from the days before, but that wasn't really the point.
[204]
" ... We don't quite have necromancers on call to die a flaming death for
a demonstration, love," Loranna says, frowning at her husband.
"Though, if the Archmagister wanted to ask us to aid the Guild again on
another mission, that could work ..."
" ... Thing is, the biggest mission right now is the one we still lack any
real information on," Loranna continues. "We all want Goranthir saved
and Mannimarco's plans for him thwarted, but we still don't know what exactly
they're planning to do."[205]

QUOTE(Loranna @ Feb 18 2006, 10:27 PM)
[211] "Oh? Why were you thinking of going to Cyrodiil, dear?" Loranna asks.
[213]
Anya shifted in her seat a little more, "Well, Ashana's dead, and there's
only two bathogorgen left, meaning a sizable chunk of the clan's resources are
mine. I want to see what I now have to bear, and- no, that's it."
Anya hoped that no one would ask why she knew to look in Cyrodiil. She still
wasn't sure how people would respond to her improving relationship with Dayla. [214]
"We'll, as bad as it sounds, but Goranthir was a friend of ours, and as such, we all have strong ties to him. And since he's now under Mannimarco's sway, it is us as friends that he needs most. And with this, we're in deep against Mannimarco as well.", Nalion said. "Ald Raathim and the Mages Guild have many common interests, Morgiah said that very well. And I think, if the offer of an alliance to the Mages Guild comes from Slyvos... well, it might help."[215]

"So you plan to inherit the Barthogorgen holdings? From whom? It seems you
have learned much in the short time you know your clan's name.", Nalion
asked, his face a mask. His throat felt dry, and he drank a deep swallow. [219]
"Whether I
succeed or not, I'll come back to Ald Raathim and help you in the fight against
Mannimarco," said Shaka. "Thanks again, all of you."
His mind was whirling with thoughts on how to approach the House of Dibella and
what might happen. It felt right to get moving on this, though.[220]

Anya's frowned deepened, unable to think of any story without holes. Finally,
she decided to go with the truth and just roll with the punches.
Steeling herself, Nalions earlier talk still fresh in her mind, she spoke
bluntly, "Dayla told. She found me after Tel Dresori and we talked about
many things, foremost what I have inherited." [230]

Loranna wasn't quite sure if she should be grumbling quietlyto her husband to
try and be a bit more positive, or thrilled that he came to the idea with
comparitively little prodding.
"I can help with that," she promises Slyvos. "I mean to talk to

[252]
"I wonder, was that a threat I heard, Nalion?" Slyvos said, glaring
at Nalion for a moment. "because if it was, you did a horrid job at
veiling it." [253]
Anya's cheek twitched at
Slyvos' stepping in, but she didn't say anything to him.
She directed her gaze at Nalion, trying to keep a passive face, "Four
thousand years of collected knowledge and resources is at least worth
examining. I already said I'd want nothing to do with the legacy, but I'd much
rather have a network in place then spend unnecessary time making my own."
Her eyes shifted to Loranna, glaning back and forth, "We talked about her-
us, and what went wrong."
Anya tightened her hands into fists, keeping there at her side, "I've seen
the power I've inherited, and I've seen how that power corrupts, I will not
wade into this blind. At least I wade into it with the knowledge that someone
is judging my every motive to ensure I don't lose myself." [254]
Loranna looks back and
forth between Nalion and Slyvos, saying "We can ill afford to fight among
ourselves, dears; we're all stressed and I know this, but let's not lose sight
of the fact that we are still friends here."
She looks over to the Bosmer vampiress, saying "Anya, I promised if
necessary I'd sit on you to keep you from going over the edge; I've no
intention of reneging on that, and given my own leanings, it's probably a good
idea to have someone else ready to sit on both of us." She sighs.
"Your mater let herself be used to torture Slyvos ... I still don't know
whether I feel sympathy for her for being in Ashana's power of hatred for
letting herself be used like that to hurt my husband, and as wonderous as your
new powers are now ..." She shrugs. "I don't know how I feel about
Dayla; I hope she is changing for the better, for her sake and yours, but I
don't see her so I don't know."
Looking over to Nalion, she continues " ... Though, we should all keep in
mind - Anya didn't ask to be put in this situation, and wouldn't be if the cure
worked. So let's not start accusing her for what she is whenwe all know how hard
she's struggled. Yes, she's a vampire; yes, she drinks blood. She's still Anya,
and she still needs her friends. And her friends need each other as well,"
she finishes, looking to Slyvos.[255]

Anya stood up, her arms quivering by her side, and forcing her voice from

you could do the exact same thing to another child. I still have the memories
of claws tearing them to pieces flashing when I close my eyes! How many times

She sat down, wraping her hands around the back of her head. "I talked to
Dayla because without her, I could very well be dead now, and not into the
un-life this time. I know what she's like, better than you or Nalion, but I
also know what she did for in that cell."[278]
Listening to her
friends and husband talk, Loranna gradually looks more and more stricken. She
rubs her eyes, wetting her fingertips in the process, stung by her inability to
know what to say, what to do.
Slowly, she makes her way to Anya, reaching out to take her in her arms,
looking to Nalion and Slyvos as she does and saying "None of you turned

strike at our hearts. You all did the only thing that could have been done -

"I question Dayla's motives. She turned on her mater because she was
tortured by her - so that her mater could torture Slyvos. Does that mean she
repents?"
Turning to Loranna's last words, Nalion said.
"The who is responsible for the deeds? Ashana. Dayla. The Diodata. And I

There is more than one way to cure vampirism. There are vampire hunters around

"Nalion... ugh. Let me ask you something; do you really lack trust in
Anya's judgement that much? Because if you do, then you lack the essential
element of what would make her your friend." He looked thoroughly
disgusted by now, despite Loranna's attempts to smooth things over. "Why are
you so worried as to be unsupportive?" [293]
Anya rubbed her face,
feeling tired, "I will be the first one to say that Dayla lives by Dayla's
motives..."
Anya held back a tear, thinking of the time that Nalion mentioned that you can
find beauty in even bloody tears, Why can't I be trusted?
"Nalion, you are the one that used the word inheritance. Ironically the
same word that Dayla used. All I've wanted was the resources, the library, four
millenia's worth. I hope you'll trust me when I say that I told Dayla I didn't
want the legacy of my tribe as well. I would think even you, a scholar, would
understand at least examining the books she left."
Anya rebuffed Loranna's attempts to embrace her, feeling all to alone for her
embrace to help. Anya flexed her hand, refusing a relfex to sprout her claws.
It was a power she never dreamed she would be capable of having, and
intoxicating to use. Maybe he was right after all. "If you can find a

[298]
Nalion sat down on a chair and emptied his glass in one long draft. He felt
physically and mentally exhausted. The discussion so far had brought up so many
things. He began questioning his own motives.
"I do not wish to lose you as a friend, Anya. I do not wish to lose any
of my friends.", he said weakly. "I warned you because I fear that
you might lose control. And I was adamant about it because it seemed to me that
you are slowly losing. As to the scholar in me... I do not know what I would
do. I truly do not know."[299]
Everyone was standing
or sitting by his or herself now; the feeling of camaraderie that Loranna
usually felt with her companions seemed a fleeting and distant thing right now.
"No one wants to lose anyone, dears," Loranna says quetly, making a
decision. "No one, I don't think, would wish true vamparism upon another
being; no matter what you do, you must either inflict suffering on others or
else take all that suffering upon yourself. That's the true evil of the curse."
"I'd like to find a cure for Anya, just like you, Nalion - but that potion
the witches brewed was supposed to work for any vampire, and beyond that cure,
the only other ones I know involve invoking the Daedra - and those lead to even
more evils thanwe can foresee. I hate to say this, but ... this change maybe
long-term. And if it is ... then, as Anya's friend, I am willing to help her
avoid having to suffer or make others suffer, even as I fight to keep her from
losing herself the curse."
"I'm a healer; I can restore my shed blood with a word and a gesture. If
she needs human blood to keep from dying or going mad, then she can ask me and
I'll fill a goblet for her." Loranna looks at Nalion as she makes her

Slyvos took a deep breath, trying to keep himself calm, until loranna finished
what she was saying. "And the same goes here for me. Wounds of flesh and
blood are not a problem, so why should feeding be?"
He wasn't exactly good with words, but he was trying. "I would know from
experiance... a person only becomes a monster when people stop trying to
help." [305]
There still was doubt
in Nalion's eyes, and the knuckles of his hand were white from the pressure
with which he held his glass.
"Then we should help Anya to keep her from turning into a monster. For her
and our sake. It takes a good part of her though, too."
He looked at Loranna and Slyvos, then his gaze rested on Anya. [306]
A tear finally rolled
down Anya's cheek, and she looked at Nalion, having no idea what to say.
Anya was tired of talking about monsters, and control, or hurting people. She
mumbled to herself quietly, "Each day already brings a reminder of that,
and now this?"
Her ears perked when Loranna mentioned the Daedra, glad she had a chance to
change the subject. If not for the better it was a different subject.
"Loranna, um, when you mentioned invoking, that reminds me..."

The Nymph and
Noggin
Mid-morning the next day, Morgiah came to the tavern for a meeting with Count
Terilite, one of her former subjects from Firsthold. They found a private area
of the Nymph to talk.
Kingston Mune was in the rougher Noggin section of the tavern, talking with
several drunk royal soldiers.

Count Terilite's voice was low and angry. "I don't see him anymore, but
he's here, blast him."
Morgiah's voice was also low, but unlike most of the rest of her family, she
kept her emotion out of her voice, so it was difficult to read. "Now, what
did he say, again? That Glacia was planning on leaving you before, and that he
encouraged that?"
"Words to that effect, yes."
"And you don't believe him?"
"Her family was as surprised as I was, and as worried, though her father
did say that she kissed that creature. At least in a friendly way ... I don't
know what to think. She has no resources outside of Firsthold. If she had
another lover, and no one knew about him ... I suppose she could be with him.
But the other very real possibility is that she's been kidnapped."
"But you haven't been given any ransom demands."
"No, but there a number of groups in Summerset who would love to have a
young noblewoman for their disgusting sort of sport ... They might not want her
for money, but for their own 'fun,' as horrifying as it is to imagine it."
"I'm sure His Majesty is doing all he can to investigate that
possibility."
"Yes ... but if the Argonian is right, and she was thinking of leaving me,
that's a whole different scenario ..."
"But," Morgiah pointed out. "She may be in trouble either
way."
"If she left of her own device, and has gotten into trouble, that's not my
concern." [364]

aren't discussing more important matters than my misfortune. If, however,

"A bookseller is better equipped to track down people than the Dark
Brotherhood?" the Count chuckled.
"I told you, Terilite, be quiet or this meeting you requested is at an
end," Morgiah said, with a flash in her eyes.

"I have to wonder what you did in Tel Dresori, to make one such as my

[499]
"Was it a good meeting?" Kingston smiled, pleased. "I wasn't

discourage it, unless she was willing to get to know you, as you, not as the
pretty thing she saw you as, a being to give her love. She's not a terrible

The song having finished, Kortyr grabbed up Kingston in a drunken bear hug.
"What'd ye say? Fancy a trip ta the House of Debellyah, Kinnistin?"
Kingston looked to Anya and then back to Kortyr. "I'm just talking to an

He tears Firsthold apart looking for her, fearing the worst. You come along and

given what I know about them. But would that wound you? And then you interrupt
a conversation after hearing a bit of it, accusing him of trying to have her

And I went ahead and asked Loranna, and she's thinking about it. Is this something you're sure you'd want to do, Anya?"
[648]
Anya's face sadden, but she didn't look up at Kethiah, "To be honest,
Kethiah, I simply don't know. If you really wanted me to, I couldn't refuse and
I'd do my damnedest to do right by him, but..."
Anya looked into Kethiah's eyes, their odd coloring not escaping her attention,
"I know some people would worry deeply, not even trusting me, let alone
someone in my potential care. And, well, it scares me too." Anya paused,
"While you were still an assassin, did you ever consider the possible
future with children?" [649]

[653]
"B'vek, no, no, I never wanted any," Kethiah shakes her head. "I
never even liked other people's children, but for some reason, I would never
accept any assignments to kill children ... And believe me, there are plenty of
them out there for the Morag Tong and the Dark Brotherhood. People wanting this
heir out of the way, or the evidence of this liaison taken out ... Anyhow,
that's as maternal as I thought I was -- just enough not to kill
children."
"And then I met Isidor's children, Tyradil and Tilitalia, and they were
lovely. It was good having that practice with children who were already raised
to a certain degree. And now, my life before motherhood just seems so far away,
though it's only been a few days ..."
Kethiah looked dreamy for a moment, before returning back to the subject.
"I do trust you, Anya. I think perhaps I might have been leaning towards
Loranna being the Godmother simply because I think you and I are too similar,
and Loranna could provide something with her tender heart and healing ways that
you and I, dark ladies that we are, would not. But I want you involved in
Eodir's life, one way or another, however you're most comfortable at whatever
time ..."

Anya gave a small smile, turning back to the little baby, sleepy eyes drooping
more every minute, "I asked because... I never put much thought into
children, until Isidor inadvertantly made me realize I'll never have my

"Isidor is a good man, and his children deserve the best upbringing. You

[796]
Loranna watches Anya with intent eyes, noting the way Anya's nose wriggled -
her instincts showing themselves, Loranna notes. Her inescapable instincts,
always to be part of her.
But Loranna was more interested in Anya's stance, which was more maternal than
predatory, and in Anya's eyes, which spoke volumes. There was wonder there,
appreciation of the beauty of the newly born, and worry as well, worry of her
worthiness perhaps. There was also pain there, as well, a pain Loranna had seen
in many of her friends' eyes since they came back from Tel Dresori, a pain
which softened Loranna's gaze.
But, more than anything else, there was a promise in Anya's eyes; a promise to
Kethiah, a promise to Eodir, a promise to herself. Loranna slowly lets go of a
breath she didn't realize she was holding, and nods.
"I think that answers our questions," she says to Anya and Kethiah.

"Hello, Reeds," Kethiah welcomed the Argonian. "We were just
talking about you and the little scene with you, Hlaalu Morgiah, and the
aristocratic Altmer a little while ago, wondering what that was all
about."

[843]
"No doubt you've heard, from one source or another," Reeds replied to
her with an offhand gesture around the tavern, "I don't suspect I'll be gone
more than a week, two at the most. And what sort of buisness might the
Archmagister have for me?"[844]

Kethiah looked to Anya, rolling her eyes. "Didn't I just say that I feared
Isidor was getting restless?"
With a smile, Kethiah turned back to Reeds. "Good luck with your quest. If
your damsel-in-distress is burdened with a tavern, three children including a
two-day-old son, and a missing husband, she'll have all my sympathy." [902]
Anya kept her
attention on Eodir, prefering to let the other two women handle Reeds, even
though she kept on open ear on conversation.
Her own stomach churned, the realization of the responsiblity setting in.
Nearly asleep, he lightly held ot her finger. This was the first time someone

"I'd be the first person to say an adventurer doesn't like to be tied down

to remind him that he's not to follow my own father's example so
slavishly."
"Perhaps I should make a potion that would give menfolk an idea of what we
