The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses

Posted by: Loranna Feb 14 2006, 06:04 PM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

Loranna's Roleplay, while an open roleplay where everyone is invited to join, is not a limitless or unregulated game. There are rules we have set ourselves that make roleplaying easier and more enjoyable for everyone of us. Please take the time and read the following guidelines carefully and, more importantly, act according to them.

1. Have fun!

2. Fun does not mean you can do whatever you want, though.

Let us please clarify some points. While everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let's be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

Affecting other characters:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

Major Events:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political(converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

For the purpose of coordinating this RP, backstage fun and discussing current and future events, we have established a chatroom on chatspike.net, chatroom #Loranna_RP. We strongly recommend that you have a glimpse in there, since it is the easiest and most convenient way to discuss characters and settings, explain rules, plan and give you the background information you need to play in this RP. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whose character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From there, type /join #Loranna_RP You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.

Here are various other rules, tips and information you should take time to read before joining this RP:

1. Background History:

Loranna's RP has accumulated a rich background history. Of course, no-one can know all that has happened in this RP, but it is important that you have at least an idea about the major events that took place during the last one-and-a-half years. There are a few posts of Loranna that explain the history of the RP from her character's viewpoint and a summary of the events in the RP is in progress, you can find them http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html. Another summary is available as text file from Nalion, please ask via our chatspike channel or per PM to Nalion for the time being. We are working on a more permanent solution to provide this information.

The chatroom #Loranna_RP on chatspike is probably the best and fastest way to get yourself informed about the RP, just ask the moderators and long-time players there if you need any information. They will gladly help you. It is also very advisable to read up on the most recent posts and threads to become a grasp of what is happening right now in the RP. This will significantly help you in finding a way to join the action and will reduce the probabiliy of mistakes.

2. Reading and catching up on the RP:

We're a dedicated lot of players, and we love this RP. This means we put a lot of effort in our posts, do a lot of planning and discussing to create our plotlines. This requires time and dedication. And we require this of you as well. This means, take your time to read the posts of the other players and take the time to catch up on the plot if it progressed while you were away. This simplifies your rejoin into the action. It is also a sign of respect to the other players. If you don't have the time to read their posts, why should they bother with yours, then?

Again, please let me repeat this, for it is very important. If you are not able or willing to put time and at least reasonable effort in this RP, think again whether you want to join this RP or not.

3. Gathering information

Gather information about the RP, be it asking in chat, by reading older posts and getting up to date on the history or by asking via PM. No-one can know everything, sure, but everyone can ask about what happened. We're glad to assist! Again, this can not be done without some interest in the ongoings in the RP, effort and a good bit of dedication.

4. Roleplaying

Roleplaying doesn't just involve making your character say something (in-character chat). It also has a descriptive element. Motions and emotions of your character, worries, joys, mimics, movements... we want to see them! Describe how your character acts, this gives you a better grasp of your character and will help your fellow players build up a relationship to your character. It's not only action and big fights we have here in this RP, there is a major social aspect to it as well.

5. Posting

Try to take your time to post. Yes, we are aware that there are hectic scenes, like in big combats, where some things move faster, but is it in general a good idea to look over your post again to check it. Yes, we know it sounds stupid and obvious, but please care about spelling, punctuation and grammar. They are not just things you learned in school once to forget afterwards. We are no decryption experts. Those grammar rules have their meaning, and there are tools out there to help you(word spell checker for example). Again, the chat is a perfect way to ask for
time and coordinate with other players if you have problems.

6. Character control / multiple characters

Once more, about controlling characters that belong to other players: You cannot control a character that is not your own (with a few exceptions, like having talked to the player of the character beforehand). This means most of the time the following:

* In combat, you can only try to attack another character, but whether you hit him or how much damage is inflicted is up to the player of the character, and only him/her.

* This applies to healing or helping the character as well; feel free to try and offer help to a character, but let the other player describe the effects of the healing/helping.

* Especially in combat, you have to work closely with the other players, the chatroom is the best and easiest method to discuss these things.

Another thing related to this topic is referring or speaking to other characters whose players are not online. If possible, try to avoid involving characters when their player is not present. It ties down your character while waiting for the other player to come back, and you don't know whether the respective player has other plans when he is back.

Additionally, avoid generating scenes where you involve a character, affect him with an action and finish the action before the player can react (stealing, attacking, casting spells or similar actions). Example: No running up to someone, rob him and run away to safety all in one post. This is a no go.

Controlling multiple characters. We have no written limits on how many characters you may control; the limit is you. In general, it is very advisable that you stick to one character when you are new to RPing. When creating a character, it is VERY important that you consider your character carefully. Again, this has something to do with effort and dedication. It is generally a bad sign if you join up, post a couple of posts and then say you are bored with this character and make a new one. Other players might get annoyed greeting and introducing their characters to a new character when it is obvious that this character will not last long because the player gets bored with the new character. This RP is a social RP as well, and it is very difficult to socialize with a character that is badly played, where you can see by the style of writing that the player is already bored with the character and will throw him away at the next opportunity. RPing is all about characters and your character is your "representative" in this RP, your voice, your arm, your mind. Please take this into account when creating and playing your character.

As a general rule of thumb, use only one character until you feel comfortable with him, can control him, have fun with him and the character is established in the RP. The rest will run automatically after a while when you get more confident and experienced in RPing.

7. Secret plans

Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them. Examples: Your character suddenly remembers that he has a castles all over Tamriel and calls in troops to help. Or: Your character suddenly reveals he is a spy of the Emperor and knows everything.

8. Ingame consequences of character actions:

Morrowind the game was rather lenient when it came to direct consequences after a character's action. This is not the case in our RP. There are laws and local customs, and there are guards and other authorities that are there to enforce them. So, starting tavern brawls, stealing, murdering, open assault and all other related actions are very likely to be persecuted and punished (this can go up from your character ending up in jail, being banished or to be executed). This doesn't mean that there are no murders or thefts in the RP, but it does mean that if you do that, be aware of the consequences your character will have to deal with.

9. Additional helpful information:

Please make sure that you read the following post of Allerleirauh http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855, dealing with some of the above mentioned rules, as well as the hints on character generation done by Loranna http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=3828224. Please take the above mentioned rules and information into careful consideration, they will help you in joining this RP quickly and are useful to avoid problems. And more importantly: act according to them!

** Not following the above advice will only result in two things: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone else as if it did not happen and/or you are asked to leave the RP. This is obviously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them and act according to the rules mentioned above. **

Thank you, and have fun!

Dayla, on the other hand, has been finding her spirits lifted somewhat by talking with the Korgari vampire Kingston. Though she's still feeling a bit lost now that her mater is dead, she at least sounds like she's not dwelling on the past ... though only time will tell just how successful the Breton vampire's wors have been.

Summary:

Slyvos had returned from Tel Dresori, his spirit and mind nearly broken from sorrow, hate, and the betraying actions of his daughter, whom he has killed by his own hands for what she has done. Now he is just staring bleakly at the pillow he tore apart as he awoke from a nightmare that recalled the events, the servants nearby too afraid to do anything but keep away from him.

Loranna enters, dismissing the servants. As the servants hurry out of the room, Loranna sits down on the bed next to Slyvos, looking at the torn pillow for a moment before turning her eyes upward to her husban's bleak expression.

Dibella help me, Loranna prays silently, as she takes Slyvos's hand in her own, her heart breaking from seeing the pain in Slyvos's eyes.

Summary:

Anya is brooding in a booth she frequents in the Nymph & Noggin. Among the things she has whirling in her mind are why she can't seem to hate her mater, why she decided to drive Shaka away, and wondering if she's finally accepted just exactly who she is.

Tel Dresori

In the smoking ruins of the tower, away from the sunlight, the Korgari vampire and the Bathogorgen sat down and continued their chat.

"So, is it just you and Anya now?" Kingston Mune asked. "Anya didn't know much about your clan when I asked her, or didn't trust me enough to tell me ..."

Slyvos just continues to stare at the pillow, his eyes never moving once, as he weakly grasps Loranna's hand. "should have seen her... all grown up... more like her dad was then she'd admit." He said in a hollow voice, as his free hand clenched hard enough to create a small trickle of blood.

"murdered the last, one left but not alive." He said, trying to put his sentences into complete thoughts. "killed her... DAMNIT!" he shouted out without warning, pulling his hand away from loranna and backing away slightly. "stripped her wretched flesh, singed her horrid corpse, shocked her darkened soul..."

And he said the first lucid thing he had since he had returned home, at that moment. "last thing she said before she died... was she hated me."

Loranna watches Slyvos warily, her min flashing back to Ald Sotha, when a distraught Arynel returned and Allie comforted him. Unconsciously, she mimics Allie's motions, reaching out to Slyvos as she would a wounded animal, showing she means no harm.

"She didn't know you," she says to Slyvos. "She only saw the lich, and never looked deeper to see the mer behind that mask." Gently, she smooths some of Slyvos's hair out of his face. "She hated something she herself created in her mind."

Slyvos spoke as if he had just stabbed himself in the leg, or what most people would sound like in that instance. "killed for you, killed for the one unborn... NO ONE HURTS HER!" he screamed, the person mentioned obvious being Loranna.

Whether she knew what he had seen to be his daughter's plans for his new family, he had no idea. "two children left, and the bloodline fades away..."

Dar'Tessir is in the Nymph & Noggin. He has had more to drink than usual and is getting a bit... happy. Other than that he is waiting for news from Tel Dresori.

Summary:

After the events of Tel Dresori, Erenius simply needs a bit of time to himself. After taking a few drinks from the Nymph and Noggin, he is currently wanderring the streets of Ald Raathim, noting how it has been cleaned up a bit since he came, and trying to think of things other than that event, at least for now.

He made it to the table without stumbleing, "How is Valerius this fine night?"

Nothing was worse for Loranna than to see someone she loved hurt, and be unable to help heal them. Nothing sent chils down Loranna's spine more than seeing her husband's fury come to the surface. Nothing could have tortured her more effectively, then, than seeing Slyvos raving like he was now.

"No one's going to hurt me ..." Loranna says quietly, tears coming to her eyes, because it was a lie - Ashana had already hurt her, her her husband, flesh of her flesh, blood of her blood, and his wounds were hers, and they ran deeper than she knew.

"No one's going to hurt our baby," she adds, hugging her stomach, and that, she hoped, wasn't a lie. She wouldn't let them hurt her child, just like Slyvos wouldn't ...

... even if it meant killing his own daughter ...

Loranna's tears stream down her face, but she still tries to hold Slyvos, whispering "No one's going to hurt us ..."

A small time passed and Athaso awoke. Finding sleep hard to come by in a wooden chair, as well as after the events that had only occured hours ago, he decided to stretch his legs and left the bar. The night air was relatively cool and refreshing, more so when compared to that of a dungeon. Athaso saw someone he recognized roaming the streets, Erenius, and sped his pace to catch up with him. "What a day, eh?" Athaso said, trying to lighten both of their moods a bit.

"You've heard of the Five Years War, right? The war between the Bosmer and Khajiit during the reign of the Battlemage?" Erenius asks.

Seeing several people were rassembled at the tavern, P'Rassha rose and waited for the silence to spread around the room.

Severak regulars knew the upcoming signs of one of P'Rassha's story and soon enough, almost all the the tavern's patrons were waiting for the huge Khajiit to start.

"Er, yeah, but I don't know much more than what you just said. But, why do you ask?" Athaso replied curiously.

"Yes, they can." Dar'Tessir said stroking his mustache. "A man with a large enough beard can find food enough within it to live for weeks. In the same spirit Dar'Tessir offers that his mane grow thick and his tail long... though the second may not apply." Dar'Tessir laughed a little at his own joke and continued, "A child of a Nord and a Dark Elf? He will surely be quite a pious drinker." "True that," Valerius replies to the Khajiit, "And most enemies aren't clever enough to search your beard for hidden weapons or lockpicks, now are they?"

"Nord and a Dark Elf?" Valerius considers, "I'd say he'd be able to drink almost anyone under the table if you ask me. Not that we condone things of that nature. After all," he continues, "we are role models! We don't get him seriously drunk until he's at least twenty."

P'Rassha took a glass of water, emptied it and started what appeared to be a really long adventure.

"One of P'Rassha's most incredible adventure occured when friend Eliandra, a tall and beautiful Nordic woman and P'Rassha escorted Emarill, an Altmer assassin from the Morag Tong guild, to the imperial city.

It was supposed to be an easy job. We were supposed to escort Emarill to Seyda Neen. There, a census and excise boat was supposed to take us from the island of Vvanderfell to the Imperial Capital. An easy job, the Big Paw said."

P'Rassha left a few seconds for the audience to assimilate all the names and continued.

"Unexpectedly, one of the crewmember of the boat in Seyda Neen was one of P'Rassha deepest friend: the redguard Corradon. What seemed at first to be an easy job was about to be transformed into an enjoyable job. Never before Corradon and Eliandra, P'Rassha's friends, met before, and P'Rassha was really happy to see they were getting along well.

In the boat in Seyda Neen, there was also three other people. First, the imperial captain was a serious man called Horatius. Second, his first mate was a beautiful and charismatic cyrodiil lady named Lermia. Finally, there were carrying a Dunmer prisoner with them. P'Rassha knows his true name, but he prefers to be called Sparkling Shadow. He was supposed to be released on Morrowind's mainland as soon as we could. "

Erenius sighs, clearly reluctant to tell the young Dunmer who seemed not half his age, eager to learn why he brought it up.

"Well, it was a few years after the war ended, just weeks after I was stationed on the Valenwood side of the border. There was a bit of disruption, thought it was more of the usual," Erenius says. "You know, bandits and such. Instead, it seemed that there was an official Khajiiti banner leading them."

"Confused, I called my superior to the scene, to ask if he saw what I did. We went out, met with them. About a dozen or so of the garrison, to meet with about half our number of the Khajiit," Erenius said. "We simply wanted to let them know they had crossed the border and that they had to turn back.

"We reached them, and talked a bit, mainly to get their attention, with friendly banter. We quickly turned to the matter at hand, the border crossing. As we broached the subject, a harsh lute sounded, and a few of our number were slain instantly. Another four were killed in the fighting itself. There were but eight of them, yet we managed six of ours for them," Erenius says. "The six of us made our way back, and we got our wounded treated to."

The Imperial pauses a moment before speaking his last bit: "And I thought that the border was safe, that, despite the rivalry, the Khajiit, and the Bosmer too, would respect the treaty that ended their war. Between that, and loosing half of the group, I'd sooner forget it every happened."

*

"Yes," Kingston grinned. "I have two bits of advice, and they're contradictory, so you can take one or the other, or neither ...

"Shortly after I was born into darkness, I asked my pater when I would be ready to create a filus of my own," Kingston continued. "And he said, 'You'll be ready when you can think about someone else before yourself.' Since I never have, I never have. No great loss, I think. Less predators and more prey is a satisfactory arrangment to me.

"So my advice: choose to only think about yourself, and leave Anya alone, and let her come to you when she wishes to, or be a proper mater, and stop worrying about your feelings when she looks at you with hatred, or says she is angry with you, and start thinking about what's best for her, what she really wants."

"Yes," Dar'Tessir nodded, "and Dar'Tessir works for the school." When Valerius mentioned "drunk" Dar'Tessir realised he was getting just that. He hadn't been drunk in a long time and didn't really want to experience it again. He refused another drink and said, "Perhaps Dar'Tessir and Valerius should listen to the story of the Cathay-Raht," he said trying to bring himself to think clearly.

P'Rassha asked for a large stool on which to sit. The huge Cathay-raht khajiit knew the story would take a while.

"We left Seyda Neen the 16th day of the Last Seed. The captain was competent, but he worried too much about the sea and not about the prisoners. Both Emarill and the Sparkling Shadow were allowed to come and go as they pleas on the boat. Fortunatly, Emarill's spells were locked because of the slave bracers he was wearing and the Shadow seemed more preoccupied about his dwemer artifacts a pair of perfectly crafted bracers,a sharp halberd and some kind of weird metalic crossbow-to cause trouble. It was weird for a prisonner to be allowed to carry weapons and armors, but P'Rassha wasn't the captain.

Anyways, P'Rassha thought, the Shadow was going to disembark the boat in a few days.

Unfortunatly, an unexpected storm came. One of the most violent storm P'Rassha and Corradon ever faced together, if the the most violent of all. During three days and night, all the passengers except Emarill-yes, even the Shadow helped- gave all their heart and prevented the boat to sank. Everyone's sight long lost the coast."

Athaso nodded as Erenius went on with the story, and when it ended, he was unsure of exactly what to say. His face darkened a bit "Well, I'm sorry for you then." Silence followed, and they continued walking until Athaso spoke again, "I thought about what you asked me, a few nights ago back at the tavern, and I've decided to join your Colovian Free Cavalry, for now. After all, I have no other direction in my life right now."

The docks had undergone a lot of changes in the last week, with most of the warehouses now being incorporated into the massive Resolution of Zenithar. A hundred workers still labored on the enormous complex, but its shell was very impressive, and merchants were already using it to pray for good profits. And to store their goods, of course.

She laughs, her face showing honest mirth. "Besides, the Duchess and my filia are friends; if I wanted to I could claim the city as Bathogorgen territory. Ashana prefered we didn't draw attention to ourselves, of course, but that's in the past now." She stops, frowning thoughtfully.

Dar'Tessir turns to Valerius, a look on his face somewhere inbetween guilt and sadness. This had certainly cleared his mind of alchohal. At least temporarily. "It seems Dar'Tessir was lucky he did not go... and that he and Valerius should not have been so eager for news." Dar'Tessir turns to Valerius, a look on his face somewhere inbetween guilt and sadness.  This had certainly cleared his mind of alchohal.  At least temporarily.  "It seems Dar'Tessir was lucky he did not go... and that he and Valerius should not have been so eager for news."  Dar'Tessir sighs and adds, "Var var var,"  ta'Agra for "what will be will be," in part to attempt to put things in perspective and also to distance himself from what happened and his guilt at being disappointed he didn't go to Tel Dresori.

*

"Aye," Valerius says to him, guessing at the meaning, "Var var var indeed. I wonder if two more men would have made a difference..."

QUOTE(Dagoth Lich @ Feb 14 2006, 07:04 PM)

"we're already hurt, and so solved the problem I did... killed the source, and still the pain doesn't fade... two more left, not yet gone..." Sly whispered, pulling away again slightly.

"dark and damp, dark and damp.... let me out, let me out! don't put me back in... wretched girl and her wretched bowels, tearing and churning... why couldn't I stop her..." he said, recalling the physical aspect of the torture, the foul touch still lingering under his flesh.

"two daughters left of the line of death, yet how can they not be called Araberith?" He questioned to himself slowly, his face showing his confusion and sorrow.

*

Loranna didn't know how to answer Slyvos's question, and the images brought by his ravings caused her to shiver ...

... and to say things she had kept to herself till now, her defenses lowered by Slyvos's pain, her own pain. And, curiously enough, instead of upsetting Slyvos like she fearedas the words passed her lips, it served to confuse him, and they talked some more ...

... and Slyvos confessed some things he had never told Loranna, and the two of them began to laugh at themselves, the laughter a welcome respite from the anguish and horror. And laughing led to other things, and more sharing of feelings ...

This wouldn't heal Slyvos, Loranna realized as the two of them lay together afterwards, his hand on her belly. But, it was a start, a much-needed start to what promised to be a long and exhausting struggle to soothe her husband's tortured soul.

Hopefully, it was the right start.

Dayla smiles back. "Yeah ... and she's going to need some help to really develop her shifting skills. The early levels are intuitive but beyond that ..."

"All right; tonight, let's you and I head to Ald Raathim," she declares. "Which leaves us the rest of the daytime to ... get to know each other."

Dana began to sob, then cried, burying her head in the Khajiit's chest. The bottle she held in her hand fell down and shattered, spilling the few remains of its content on the floor of the Nymph.

With all the care he could, P'Rassha took Dana in his arms and transported her to a bed of the Nymph and Noggin. P'Rassha didn't know what to do, and simply tucked her to bed.

OOC Summary

Reichi Sari is still in his room, resting after the ordeal of Tel Dresori.
--------

Reichi yawned and got off his bed drowsily. The Dunmer shuffled over to a dresser and pulled open a drawer, changing into some less soiled clothing. Badenes hadn't been so kind as to not bleed on him when he stabbed him to death. Jerk.

Reichi set aside the clothing with the armor and weapons. Now for a drink or two, then he'd get his stuff fixed and cleaned.

Reichi headed back into town, and down to the Nymph and Noggin. The mer quickly headed up to bar and ordered a Sujamma. A nice strong drink. He would need it, to wash away the horrors of Tel Dresori.

Dar'Tessir raised his bottle to the toast and drunk deeply. He would have to sleep off the drinks as well so he rented a cheeper room for the night, realising he would soon have to copy some more books for the school.

He went up to his room, though it was still early and curled up in bed. A cat, especially one who had a little too much to drink, could sleep at any time for any amount of time.

Shaka slept through the commotion in the tavern below, and woke in early afternoon with a clearer head. After dressing, he wondered whether Kethiah would mind a visitor.

"Anyway," Dayla continues, "there's a lot of history for our clan - more than I could say in a night or a fortnight. A lot of which, to be honest, I only paid partial attention to, so I'll start with the modern day instead."

"Ashana, like I told you, impersonated Almalexia to get back at Slyvos, though that wasn't her only purpose. Over the centuries Ashana accumulated a lot of wealth and influnece, had various side projects going to divert her when she wanted a change of pace. Beyond her revenge though, there wasn't any overarching plan; we Bathogorgen are a little paradoxical in that we're the ultimate manipulators and infiltrators, but for the most part we were just a handful of siblings who served our mater and pursued our own interests."

"... Thing is, us being the sole two Bathogorgen remaining, we're the inheritors of Ashana's legacy," Dayla conlcudes.

"I tell you this more out of a general sense of caution," Dayla says.  "Kingston is a nice fellow and I'd likely welcome him into my own haven too, but ... well, that's just the common wisdom."

*

"I'm cautious no matter what. Kingston was the only vampire to stay my hand."

QUOTE(Loranna @ Feb 14 2006, 09:52 PM)

*

Anya remained largely quiet, taking in the words carefully. She spoke up after Dayla pauses. "Dayla, mater, what would you do with that inheritance?"

Anya's tone remained clipped, even. She was trying to prevent her feelings from boiling over. Anger still smoldered, but pity and care battled for their place.

"Honestly ... I don't know," Dayla admits. "Right now, there's only one project of Ashana's I feel like actively continuing - dealing with Geht and the God of Worms. And it'd take me time before I could actively bring even a third of Ashana's full resources to bear on that; I'll need to do a lot before I can truly take everything over ..."

" ... but the point is, this is your legacy as well as mine," Dayla concludes. "At the very least, you deserve the right to know it's there, whether you want it or not. There's material wealth, of course, books of lore - there are some books on our clan's abilities I think you should have no matter what ..."

She pauses a moment, then says " ... that is, unless you truly do despise being a vampire, in which case ... well, Ashana had contacts with witches and wizards all over, we might be able to find a cure." She frowns as she says this, and her voice is heavy with reluctance, but she says it nonetheless.

Anya intentionally ignored the last remark. Some might say she was sick, but even her feelings on her new life were conflicted.

"Geht was a friend, until she got her greedy hands near him. In that she bit off more than she could drink, Geht's master is an even greater undead than her. As for the legacy, I want none of that. Ashana was sick and twisted, I'll make my own, thank you. The resources... I'll make use of though."

Anya leaned foward, placing herself that much closer to Dayla, "What of you? I hear about this wealth, power, schemes, plans, manipulation. What of you? Not what you will do, just you."

"So I found out," Dayla says in response to Anya's first remarks. " ... I don't want the God of Worms taking over Tamriel anytime soon. Zombies and ghosts are poor fare for our kind."

Tilting her head slightly at Anya, she says "What of me? I don't quite follow you ..."

"Dayla... when you fell and after Ashana died, I ran to you. Not to kill you... I was- I was scared for you."

Anya creased her eyes, "But look at what you did to me? I'm dead, by your hands, and I still walk! I hate you for it! But I can't, I just can't keep it up! Who are you, that you would stay such hatred? Or is all you are just schemes and manipulation?"

Dayla's eyes ripple, the undead shine showing through.

"I ..." she stops, shakes her head. "I'm just a vampire, Anya. All I really ask for myself is a full belly, my biggest scheme right now is to somehow do right by you, even though I messed up from the start."

"Weren't you the one waking up with me cradling your head?"

Anya hung her head, staring at the floor, "So that's it, huh? You don't care, you just want a nice, little full belly."

"Don't care about what?" Dayla asks, getting frustrated. "You asked me who I am; all I am is some Ashlander girl who liked the wrong things and who got thrown out of her tribe for it, then met a woman who offered to give all those things to me and more. There really isn't all that much to me, Anya ..."

Hesitantly, she reaches out to push Anya's chin back up. "... Kingston told me to either let you come to me, or to stop thinking about myself and think about what's good for you. I'm trying to do the latter, but I've been a selfish, simple little girl for so long, it doesn't come easy." She sighs, letting her finger drop. "I don't even truly know what is best for you; what do you want, Anya? Who are you that you can make a selfish little girl even consider thinking about someone other than herself, no matter how ineptly she does it?"

Anya winced, a blood tear rolling down her cheek, "Care about me. Do you care about me past you having a nice little filia to fill your stomach on lonely nights? I found pity for you, I was scared for you! All I want to know is if those feelings are worth the trouble or cost, why I should even care for you."

"How should I know what's best for me? You forced us into this relationship, whatever type it is. Why should I fear when your hurt?"

Now, Dayla's head droops, blood flowing down her cheeks.

" ... You need someone who can give you stability in your life," she says dully. "Someone who can make you happy, give you a reason to look forward to the sunset each night. Someone who can see what it is you really need and help you get it, who will be there for you instead of insisting you just be there for her."

Anya looked up at her mater's form, she mumbled to herself, "You still haven't answered my question..."

Anya cooled herself, trying to collect her head. She didn't understand why she felt the need for Dayla to admit to anything, or the need to justify her own betraying feelings, "Yes, yes you are my mater. What is their, Dayla? I've only learned about my powers through trial and error, and my disadvantages as well. What is it all we can do, and all we can fear?"

"I'm sorry," Dayla says. "I'm trying to answer it ..."

"We fear fire, as you've learned, and sunlight, and the power of holy places. Our weaknesses to these though aren't quite as pronounced as some other clans, and as you get older, you'll build up a tolerance to all of them. Ashana could walk around in full daylight in the middle of a Temple and have everyone blessing her as the Holy Almalexia and never even wriggle, but then she had thousands of years to grow in power."

"You already have discovered the basics of your shapeshifting - you've sprouted claws. I'm guessing if you've done that you've probably tried altering your appearance too, at least to look like some other mortal. Those sorts of changes are easy enough to pick up, but to do anything drastic, like take on an animal form, that takes tutulage. It's not as intuitive as you'd think, and developing the mental stamina to hold a form like I do takes a fair bit of practice."

"Also, you might have noticed, Charm spells come easy to us. Most mind-affecting magic does; if you wanted, you could easily learn how to make everyone in a room follow your suggestions, pacify a warband of Orcs, even make people forget things they saw." She glances over at the Argoninan brothers for a moment. "Though the more you ensorcel someone, the more they tend to lose some of their spark, particularly if they were weak-minded to begin with."

"Beyond that ... you'll notice as you grow stronger that you just become more adaptable in general, to a degree. When you find yourself in strange lands, you'll instictively mimic the local mannerisms, often without realizing it. It's part of the shapeshifting; Ashana always said it was a matter of specialized perceptions, something shapeshifters just pick up with practice."

Anya listened with growing fascination, noting what she had learned, and what was new.

"I had figured out most of that, but to know the full limits, it's amazing. And you'll teach me this? To bring it under bear, in my control, mater?"

Dayla smiles, somewhat sadly. "I haven't mastered everything yet myself," she reminds Anya. "I can't take mist form to any degree yet, let alone use magic and drink blood like Ashana could. But her mater wrote down the secrets of our clan's powers for his own filia, and I know where Ashana kept those volumes. We'll learn together, and I'll show you what tricks I've learned."

"One other thing; past a certain point, our powers diverge. You've noted how my three brothers and I each had a favored animal form. Ashana prefered simply taking a giant form to animal forms, and from what I know of our clan's history, none of her brothers and sisters ever mastered mist form like she did. So don't be discouraged if some things that I do easily don't come so naturally for you; it could just mean your powers are going to mature along a slightly different path."

Anya finally smiled, a genuine smile if one looked. "I'd like that."

She stood up, stretching her back to work out a few tight muscles. "Well, mater, you wouldn't happen to have any lessons I can start with?"

Anya payed close attention to Dayla, as she built on the tricks Anya had learned. Anya could already alter her color in her eyes, on her skin, and form nasty claws. Dayla showed her how to alter her overall dimensions, growing taller, wider, changing her musculature, and other things. She learned the rudimentary skills to begin adopting male forms, so she could truly change her appearance.

Anya was showing visible signs of fatigue, the mental strain of performing less than natural changes weighing heavily. She sat on her bed, "Dayla, how long will you be staying? I can't imagine you'll be here for long... What will you do next?"

Anya couldn't help but notice that when Dayla was explaining her tribe, or instructing her in abilities, Dayla seemed more relaxed, almost happy.

"I fear I won't be staying long," Dayla says, smiling sadly once more as the lesson comes to an end. "I know what Ashana did to the Duke with me as her 'model', and I can guess what she did when I wasn't present. I imagine Ald Raathim is not a safe place for me ..."

"As for me, I'm going to go put Ashana's affairs in order. She had some other long-term plots to make mischeif for the Duke and Duchess; I'll pull the plug on those. Ald Raathim's your home; I won't let my former mater's schemes mess with your home."

She reaches for her pocket, and pulls out an amulet, a gold medallion inset with emeralds. "This amulet is keyed to Ashana's private haven, now mine, in the middle of Cyrodiil. There's a few cattle and servants there, they'll all recognize the amulet as proof you're part of the clan. Ashana's library's there; I'll mark which section contains the writings of Bathogorgen for you. I'll be in and out of there for the next few weeks, most likely ..."

She pauses, then asks " ... What do you plan to do about your fallen friend, Goranthir? Are you and your companions planning on trying to fight or rescue him?"

Posted by: Xyber02 Feb 15 2006, 01:51 AM

Anya frowned, "Well, while you are here, you can stay here, unless you have another place you'd rather stay. I'm sure those cattle you sent me won't care if they're on the recieving end again, not anymore."

Anya put the amulet on, running her fingers over it's surface. "I'll be sure to make my way to Cyrodiil soon. Those books would be most informative, I'd imagine. Thank you, I'm only a fledgling in the immortal life. I have too much of myself invested her to be able to act as you, or Kingston does."

"Goran... I don't know. I don't know if it is possible to rescue him. And I've only heard passing remarks about searches into the matter, I've been- ah- preoccupied as you know."

Dayla sighs. "Ashana's spies seemed to indicate the Duchess intends to do something," she says. "And, well, like I said, I've my own reasons for wanting to see something done about the matter. Whatever information I have, I'll pass along to you; your friends can decide what to do with it."

She frowns. "Though, personally ... I don't want you anywhere near the God of Worms. You were right when you said Ashana bit into more than she could handle when she woke him up; he makes me shudder just thinking about what he might do, if he got his claws on you ..."

"I knew hanging around heroes would have a bad effect on you ..." Dalya mutters, though she gives a lopsided grin as she says it.

" ... Good bye Anya; till we see one another again. I look forward to our next lesson." Dayla pulls out a second gold and emerald amulet from around her neck, and with a brief glow of magic, she disappears.

Kingston went to the center of the town to look at the new construction continuing on the Imperial Embassy. It would be a stately building when completed, and the park in front made a lovely square, with the Mages Guild, the House of Dibella, and the Temple of the Tribunal all in close proximity. Very elegant, he thought.

Some time after his little talk with Loranna, Slyvos began to lose himself once more to the mixed feelings of sorrow and anger that had been plagueing him earlier. "getting away, protecting... WRETCHED LITTLE GIRL!"

He did his best to keep his ravings down to a semi-quiet gibber, and from the looks of him, he was obviously not in a very good condition mentally. He might someday get better, but for now, he would need all the help he can get...

He went to the first place his muddled mind could think of, the Nymph and Noggin, and quickly took a seat in one of the corners somewhere. He was talking to himself quietly, looking around occasionally in an almost paranoid manner.

Erenius, after quaffing a few imported drinks, a flin and some of the strong mead being amongst those, sees Slyvos, almost mistaking him for one of the various homeless Khajiiti skoom addicts without their sweet drink. Not that there were any here that he'd seen, but he knew the look.

Cautiously approaching Slyvos, Erenius comes closer.

"Need some company?" he asks the bedraggled Khajiit.

Slyvos' head sharply turns towards Erenius, tilted to the side in question. "it doesn't want to hurt me..." he shook his head a bit, forcing himself to think clearly for a moment enough to say two clear words. "alright, sit."

His eyes no longer had the dark lines of exhaustion under them, but the odd thing was that he kept clenching his left hand hard enough to make it bleed. Considering he was a khajiit, even just an ohmes-raht, it wasn't very hard.

"I do have no want to hurt you," Erenius tells him, sitting. He then orders three drinks, two liquors for Slyvos and himself, a third, a brew that the barmaid that came by suggested for supposed crazies as Slyvos seems to be.

Not sure what to say after the barmaid leaves to bring the drinks, Erenius stays quiet for a while.

"I'm sorry about what happened," Erenius says, breaking the silence and hoping not to touch off a nerve that might very well send Slyvos into a state of madness beyond his current situation.

*

"sorry when not affected, no sense, no sense..." He mutters, gulping down his first drink quickly in almost one go. He took the other one, and started to sniff at it for a while, wondering what it was...

"wondering if this is healthy..." he gibbers after a few moments of complete and utter silence.

He blinked a few times, looking at the drink intently, before pushing it aside. "liquids the body heals, the spirit remaining the same... no use, no use... GAH!"

He knocked the drink over, spilling it's contents all over the table. Luckily, it didn't get on the floor or on either of the two people sitting at the table. "fanatically loyal, foolishness takes it's toll... the legionairre at last finds it's hole?" He said, tilting his head at Erenius as though to question why he was still even bothering to be in Ald Raathim. it wasn't a very clear question, but if you took the time to think about it, you'd get it.

"I stay because its my choice," Erenius tells Slyvos. "I came at first because it was amongst those called. I left on my own accord to aid the Imperial City when the Vaults were openned. I come again because the plight of Ald Raathim stirred me to action. And I stay because the danger I came to aid in averting still remains."

Erenius pauses for a moment, looking at the brew sits on the table and floor, before sipping his own drink, offerring the rest of the largely undrunk cup to Slyvos.

"You need it more than I do," Erenius says, pushing the cup to Slyvos gently.

Slyvos looked at the drink with a hint of paranoia, before his eyes cleared for a moment and he gulped the drink down. It had relatively little of an effect worth noting on him, but as he finished he went utterly silent.

And so, he remained silent, for several moments, his eyes shifting from left to right of their own accord.

"alright, define the term used... kill it or forgive it..." One of the patrons had left an empty mug of mead on their table before leaving, so slyvos reached over and gulped it down as well. Anything that might help would do, but he had too strong a constitution for it to really do anything...

Reeds wasn't expecting something like that. Most times he used stupid questions like that he got an angry rebuttal or a fist to the face. This was altogether unexpected. Slyvos' eyes narrowed at Reeds, who would soon find it was not wise to upset a person who was not exactly in their right state of mind; and who was prone to throwing fireballs at things to begin with.

"GUILT?! YOU THINK IT'S GUILT?!" He screamed, reaching across the table and grabbing Reeds by the shoulders, pulling him so they met eye to eye, directly. "you don't understand anything about what I became while I did that."

Reeds, despite being pulled halfway across the table, was relatively calm. He seriously doubted that Slyvos, no matter how problemed he was, would actually kill him. It might hurt like hell, but that was a risk he would have to take... "You're right Slyvos. I don't understand, there are probably few who do. However," Reeds said as he twisted out of the khajiit's grip, "that is no excuse to go shouting at people who are only trying to help. We are your friends Slyvos, we care about what happens to you. If I don't understand, fine." Reeds sits back down, "You have two choices. One, I can walk away and leave you alone until you decide to get ahold of yourself, and at the rate this is going I don't think it'll be within my natural life. Two, you can sit down and enlighten me. If you think I didn't understand, then fill me in. I'm your friend Slyvos, or at least I thought I was, and I want to help."

"friends you say, and yet insulted by said friend I become each word spoken. Explain... must not be said in this place." He sat back in his chair, turning his gaze away from Reeds.

To Arynel he said, with a strange look of understanding on his face. "only ways for a monster to grow, for what actions fail to cause suffering in their wake?"

And to isidor he said, "trouble, always trouble... what? not me..."

Faryon's Diary

It seems like last night went on forever. I just couldnt sleep, and when i awoke this morning, I got the dispatch. I want to forget what I read in that, the horrors those poor men went through at this Tel Dresori place, what would posess such fiends as Vampires to attack our good troops. We do not want to open up another front of this war, but if the Vampires are allying with Ald Raatham, then our chances grow dim. Nether the less, today, I have few errands, I am thinking of taking a boat ride on the lake. It will surely be an interesting experiance.

Erenius, wearied from the events of the day before, and frustrated at his ineptitude from just a few moments ago, has long left teh tavern, wanderring the streets, finding his way to the plaza that seemed to be forming. The new Temple structure was long finished, and the embassy he had heard about looked like it was coming along quite well.

After looking about the site, Erenius heads about the city, aimlessly wanderring in his path, yet not his destination.

Vaan's OOC Summary:

Vaan is doing Telvanni things, in a Telvanni city, in a Telvanni world. A world apart from...anything.

It's his lifeline. Ever since that conversation with Arynel in the Nymph, Vaan knew that his career in the Muatramer was about to come to an end. This will be his new career when that ends...

...a career reserved for him from birth. The career he was supposed to have all along.

Necron's Summary:

Necron has gone to Ald Raathim, for totally obvious reasons. (what else do you do when half your order packs it's bags and goes to one location all at once? You follow them, of course!)

He's obviously looking for answers. But he is totally unawares of certain disturbing events that have just unfolded in Tel Dresori.

Even worse, he is totally unaware of the revalation that a person connected to House Dagoth (by birth) had ripped the temple into two halves and had even impersonated a member of the Tribunal. Does this sound familiar? It should. Voryn Dagoth achieved the same thing, more or less, a few years back. (by impersonating his former house via a cult...he single handedly decimated the Tribunal temple)

History had just repeated itself.

llana was watching this scene from behind her plate of fish, curious at what could have caused this reaction, was not the Duke as sane as any man (or kitten) the last time she saw him?. She saw standing nearby that argonian chap, shaka, or was it sahak? She forgot, but she remembered him from the trip across the mountians. Perhaps he knew what the commotion was about? He turned to face Dram, holding up one of his own hands and licking at it. It was noticeable that there was blood on his palms, his own blood specifically from the marks on them. "and the graceful one wishes for her kitten to return.. alright."

He casted his much overused Recall spell, reappearing once again within his library. He looked around, for a bit, making sure everything was as he left it; dusty and full of tomes and books, yup, just as he left it. He went into the hallway, and started wondering which direction was which... right should he go, or would she be to the left?

'Oh, so he met up with Sheogorath, did he? The poor kitty. So, you were there, what do you think caused this?' Llana looked at this Arynel fellow that Shaka had pointed out, up and down, interesting character, she added, 'I just want to know. I mean, what if whatever turned him mad came and got us? It would be a nightmare!'

*

Shaka had to smile slightly at the woodelf. "I don't know if you ever met a Knight of the Lily named Maranda, but you remind me of her a little, at times. . . . Don't worry about the madness spreading; it stems from a personal situation of Slyvos'."

"A vampire clan took over Tel Dresori, and Loranna's company managed to stop them, as well as rescue the few surviving townspeople. But we saw some terrible things along the way. Anyway, last I knew the town is being fought over by Redorans and vampires, so maybe someday Tel Dresori can be rebuilt, once the madness of war has moved on."

'Vampires? How Scary! I hear in Morrowind the Vampires look all ugly and stuff... is it true?' she said, before continuing, 'and what if the Redorians win Tel Dresori? Wont that mean they are closer than ever to attacking Ald Raatham? This is scary business... Dram raises an eyebrow.

Mystery, Mastery, and Mercy aid thee Slyvos, he prays silently. The Duchess ... and the city ... need you. And it it no joy to see a fellow comrade in arms suffer so.

Turning, he heads back to the castle; doubtless the Duchess would be relieved to have her husband back where she can tend to him.

"If it will make you feel better, then go ahead and check with the guild. As for the Redorans . . . I don't know, lately I've felt that they lost their best chance to take Ald Raathim when they failed to crush us with their war machines. They may have lost the momentum now."

"It's true that vampires on the island of Vvardenfell are the monsters of legend, easy to spot. But Llana, I think Ald Raathim's chances have actually improved a little in recent weeks. Vampires taking over entire towns seems to be the exception rather than the rule; Balmora and Tel Dresori are notable for being the exceptions." He put a hand on Llana's shoulder, paternally, to calm the Bosmer.

"You're welcome," said Shaka, shaking his head. "Definitely Maranda."

He hadn't been trying anything; being paternal came naturally to the battlemage.

As Shaka walked around the taproom and hoped no one had been watching the conversation with Llana, an odd thought struck him. In her new life, Anya had actually moved closer to the traditions of her people, the Green Pact. True that Anya wouldn't be eating the flesh of family and enemies; still, in drinking blood Anya could be said to be more closely approaching the Bosmer way.

Sometimes Tamriel seems so strange, mused Shaka. Each race is so different from one another; it's a wonder that we live together as well as we do, despite the ancient wars and blood feuds.

Anya made her way to the castle. She wanted to see what was in store with the house Dayla told Anya about, but was in no hurry to run to a new place alone. She was hoping Riechi might want to go, so she decided to see if he was in his room.

Anya walked past Slyvos' study. She paused hesitantly, and then knocked on the door.

The door seemed to open by itself, but if you looked closely, you'd notice the subtle glow of a mysticism spell around the knob. Even in his current state, slyvos could still use his magic to deadly effect... for good or ill, as he showed when he killed Ashana.

The boat trip was wonderful, thought Faryon as he disembarked, the meal was nice, he had met a number of influential patrons and petitioned his cause to them. As he was disenbarking a hooded man approched him

'Yes, and what might you want?' asked Faryon politely, he knew not the customs of Cyrodiil well, but hooded men ment one of two things, a spy or an assassin, or...
'I am a messanger from the Imperial Court. Your request for an audiece has been granted, would you follow me, please?'
'Thank you' Faryon said, surprised his request was so speedily granted. he set off, following the hooded messenger towards the palace, its tower rising far into the air, visible for miles around.

Indoril Faryon was led through the palace, past chambers and antechambers, courtyards and ballrooms, staterooms and thronerooms. He passed couriers, courtesans, Moth priests, mages, knights, ladies, and many, many guards.

Finally, they went out to a back piazza which opened to a vast private lawn. There were two Cyrodilic ladies, dressed in the latest fashion, lounging under an umbrella while they watched Imperial Prince Ebel practice his archery. The target, Faryon noted, was larger than regulation, and closer to the Imperial Prince that tradition required.

But considering that he was cheating, Ebel was an excellent shot.

"Lord Faryon," said the courier, using Indoril Faryon's "western" title.

"Pleased to meet you," said the Prince turning to him. He was an affably, reasonably handsome middle aged man, in casual but very well-wrought clothing.

He nodded at both, with an expression of pity on his face for Slyvos, however, he said nothing, looking questioningly at Anya.

"I am as well as I can be at the moment, thank you, Anya.", Nalion answered. "How are you feeling, Anya. And Slyvos?"

The word about the Khajiit's ramblings in the tavern had spread, and so to Nalion's ears as well.

"better, the wretch's talons digging less deep... better." He said, looking at Nalion with an eyebrow raised. He wondered, just how much of the conversation the breton had heard before entering. A very good question....

Nalion approached the Khajiit, touched his face lightly and looked probingly into Slyvos' eyes.
"You have a tough hide, old friend. I know someone who would have broken where you have remained steadfast.", the mage said calmly. "Give yourself time to let the wounds heal. Slyvos didn't really react all too adversely to the things mentioned, looking just more curious then anything. "natural to do this... no? As mortals hunt animals, sport and food to live, so do vampires need to hunt us..."

He licked at his hands again, the wounds starting to heal. "wonder why the dunmer hate them so, I do... when though willing, they practice necromancy all the same. Knowing this from a first hand perspective, helpful..."

'I am ashamed that I could not offer you what you wished for, and ashamed that my offers were not good enough for your Imperial Highness. I have given up the most precious thing I could hope for to come here and ask for your help, and yet what I could offer was not enough. What I seeked was to foil a tyrant in his tracks, to foil someone who would be ambitious enough to strike at the Empire itself.

'It was far too important that we secure your neutrality to call the council, so soon after it last disbanded. I shall take what you ask to the next meeting and discuss it. Our faction has been trying to remove those reactionists who do not see the benifit of cooperation with the Imperial Government, and with the Death of the Indoril High Councillor to Hesleths forces, we believed there would be a change.

'I sacrificed my chances to gain such an honour, one which I have always aspired to, in order to gain your Imperial Highness' support in this matter, yet what is your word is law.' Faryon sighed and thought, then an idea hit him, 'Have you considered, that a Morrowind ruled by a council of housemen would be less of a threat to the Empire as a whole than a Morrowind ruled by an Ambitious Hesleth, your Imperial Highness?'

"And life?", Nalion asked simply. "I know who you are talking about Loranna, and I know it may be irrational of me. It is the willingness to embrace death that I cannot understand, for something like power. To give up sunlight, the warmth on your skin, feeling your own breath and that of creation around you. Your own heartbeat in unison with the world around you. Is this not thrilling, too?"
The mage frowned. He knew that he was not sure of his own feelings in this matter, but to him, it felt so wrong.

I find his eternal grasping unseemingly in a king -- it would better suit an ambitious swine merchant. But I know that his mother, his closest advisor, is a friend of my father, and so I do not believe him and his rise to power to be a threat to us ... If you had evidence against this, I would be interested in seeing it. You did ask, however, that the Mages Guild, Fighter's Guild, and other organizations be forced to be neutral in this conflict. To that, I will agree, but they will insist that if they are bound to neutrality, then they will be allowed to reorganize their Guildhouses in Alliance-controlled Vvardenfell."

'And the Imperial Legions? Will they be neutral as well in thier dealings with Morrowind?' Faryon asked

I've seen what happens when someone let's their strength consume them, and another when their strength let's them give into all their desires, petty and more."

"I know what can happen, I've witnessed and felt the end results personally. I can't promise you that I won't give in I can, and will, say that I do know the price, and I have no intention of becoming a monster again."

"Realize that for the longest of time I wanted more strength and power. I was willing to do what I needed to gain that, and never become helpless again. Even as my first days as an immortal came, all I could twist my mind around was the abilities I could now call to bear. And look at me now."

"I've lost so much for the illusions of security in strength, and now I see no readily viable cure. I do enjoy the strength it gives me, the power I have is an addictive thing, but this is no longer the life I wanted, despite the fact that it's the life I get."

Anya's fists were clenched, her fingers biting into her palms, and her eyes glowed slightly. The words carried a hint of trying to convince herself as well, but were aimed largely at Nalion.

'It was truly an honour for you to grant me this Audience to hear my pertition, your Imperial highness, I shall inform you when we have reached an agreement,' Faryon bowed low once more, and was lead away by the same agent who brought him there. That night, he wrote a letter to Muthsera Hlaalu Mortillara, informing her of the events of that day. It would be up to her to gather support for this agreement. In the meantime, Faryon had yet another audience to arrange, this one much more sensitive. He got a messanger to send off the letter of introduction, and he would make haste to Wayrest within the next two days

"The difference is that we are not compelled to kill by the power we wield.", Nalion pointed out. "But I do not wish to follow this argument further, for two reasons. I do not want to sew animosity between us, and I have heard what I wanted to hear from Anya. That is is not the life - or unlife - she wants. A thought that might help her."
Nalion's tone was still bare of emotion, yet his eyes seemed to be softer now. "I have my own apologies to make.", he said. "I beg my leave."

Anya watched Nalion with searching eyes, feeling her tense posture melt off. "I- sorry Nalion. I really don't want you to fear me."

Her eyes moved to the floor, finding an arbitrary reason to study it, "I have conflicted emotions, Nalion. I do recognize so much more I can do, and at the same time, I'm stuck with a life mocking my mistaken decisions. Please do understand that I don't want to any of you to fear me, however much you may fear for me."

Nalion's eyebrows shot up in surprise.
"I do not fear you, Anya. I fear for you. And I'd tremble should this moment come, for...", the mage said, but did not continue his sentence.
"I must leave now."
The mage turned and left the library.
