The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses

Posted by: Loranna Feb 2 2006, 10:03 PM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

Loranna's Roleplay, while an open roleplay where everyone is invited to join, is not a limitless or unregulated game. There are rules we have set ourselves that make roleplaying easier and more enjoyable for everyone of us. Please take the time and read the following guidelines carefully and, more importantly, act according to them.

1. Have fun!

2. Fun does not mean you can do whatever you want, though.

Let us please clarify some points. While everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let's be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

Affecting other characters:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

Major Events:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political(converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

For the purpose of coordinating this RP, backstage fun and discussing current and future events, we have established a chatroom on chatspike.net, chatroom #Loranna_RP. We strongly recommend that you have a glimpse in there, since it is the easiest and most convenient way to discuss characters and settings, explain rules, plan and give you the background information you need to play in this RP. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whose character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From there, type /join #Loranna_RP You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.

Here are various other rules, tips and information you should take time to read before joining this RP:

1. Background History:

Loranna's RP has accumulated a rich background history. Of course, no-one can know all that has happened in this RP, but it is important that you have at least an idea about the major events that took place during the last one-and-a-half years. There are a few posts of Loranna that explain the history of the RP from her character's viewpoint and a summary of the events in the RP is in progress, you can find them http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html. Another summary is available as text file from Nalion, please ask via our chatspike channel or per PM to Nalion for the time being. We are working on a more permanent solution to provide this information.

The chatroom #Loranna_RP on chatspike is probably the best and fastest way to get yourself informed about the RP, just ask the moderators and long-time players there if you need any information. They will gladly help you. It is also very advisable to read up on the most recent posts and threads to become a grasp of what is happening right now in the RP. This will significantly help you in finding a way to join the action and will reduce the probabiliy of mistakes.

2. Reading and catching up on the RP:

We're a dedicated lot of players, and we love this RP. This means we put a lot of effort in our posts, do a lot of planning and discussing to create our plotlines. This requires time and dedication. And we require this of you as well. This means, take your time to read the posts of the other players and take the time to catch up on the plot if it progressed while you were away. This simplifies your rejoin into the action. It is also a sign of respect to the other players. If you don't have the time to read their posts, why should they bother with yours, then?

Again, please let me repeat this, for it is very important. If you are not able or willing to put time and at least reasonable effort in this RP, think again whether you want to join this RP or not.

3. Gathering information

Gather information about the RP, be it asking in chat, by reading older posts and getting up to date on the history or by asking via PM. No-one can know everything, sure, but everyone can ask about what happened. We're glad to assist! Again, this can not be done without some interest in the ongoings in the RP, effort and a good bit of dedication.

4. Roleplaying

Roleplaying doesn't just involve making your character say something (in-character chat). It also has a descriptive element. Motions and emotions of your character, worries, joys, mimics, movements... we want to see them! Describe how your character acts, this gives you a better grasp of your character and will help your fellow players build up a relationship to your character. It's not only action and big fights we have here in this RP, there is a major social aspect to it as well.

5. Posting

Try to take your time to post. Yes, we are aware that there are hectic scenes, like in big combats, where some things move faster, but is it in general a good idea to look over your post again to check it. Yes, we know it sounds stupid and obvious, but please care about spelling, punctuation and grammar. They are not just things you learned in school once to forget afterwards. We are no decryption experts. Those grammar rules have their meaning, and there are tools out there to help you(word spell checker for example). Again, the chat is a perfect way to ask for
time and coordinate with other players if you have problems.

6. Character control / multiple characters

Once more, about controlling characters that belong to other players: You cannot control a character that is not your own (with a few exceptions, like having talked to the player of the character beforehand). This means most of the time the following:

* In combat, you can only try to attack another character, but whether you hit him or how much damage is inflicted is up to the player of the character, and only him/her.

* This applies to healing or helping the character as well; feel free to try and offer help to a character, but let the other player describe the effects of the healing/helping.

* Especially in combat, you have to work closely with the other players, the chatroom is the best and easiest method to discuss these things.

Another thing related to this topic is referring or speaking to other characters whose players are not online. If possible, try to avoid involving characters when their player is not present. It ties down your character while waiting for the other player to come back, and you don't know whether the respective player has other plans when he is back.

Additionally, avoid generating scenes where you involve a character, affect him with an action and finish the action before the player can react (stealing, attacking, casting spells or similar actions). Example: No running up to someone, rob him and run away to safety all in one post. This is a no go.

Controlling multiple characters. We have no written limits on how many characters you may control; the limit is you. In general, it is very advisable that you stick to one character when you are new to RPing. When creating a character, it is VERY important that you consider your character carefully. Again, this has something to do with effort and dedication. It is generally a bad sign if you join up, post a couple of posts and then say you are bored with this character and make a new one. Other players might get annoyed greeting and introducing their characters to a new character when it is obvious that this character will not last long because the player gets bored with the new character. This RP is a social RP as well, and it is very difficult to socialize with a character that is badly played, where you can see by the style of writing that the player is already bored with the character and will throw him away at the next opportunity. RPing is all about characters and your character is your "representative" in this RP, your voice, your arm, your mind. Please take this into account when creating and playing your character.

As a general rule of thumb, use only one character until you feel comfortable with him, can control him, have fun with him and the character is established in the RP. The rest will run automatically after a while when you get more confident and experienced in RPing.

7. Secret plans

Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them. Examples: Your character suddenly remembers that he has a castles all over Tamriel and calls in troops to help. Or: Your character suddenly reveals he is a spy of the Emperor and knows everything.

8. Ingame consequences of character actions:

Morrowind the game was rather lenient when it came to direct consequences after a character's action. This is not the case in our RP. There are laws and local customs, and there are guards and other authorities that are there to enforce them. So, starting tavern brawls, stealing, murdering, open assault and all other related actions are very likely to be persecuted and punished (this can go up from your character ending up in jail, being banished or to be executed). This doesn't mean that there are no murders or thefts in the RP, but it does mean that if you do that, be aware of the consequences your character will have to deal with.

9. Additional helpful information:

Please make sure that you read the following post of Allerleirauh http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855, dealing with some of the above mentioned rules, as well as the hints on character generation done by Loranna http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=3828224. Please take the above mentioned rules and information into careful consideration, they will help you in joining this RP quickly and are useful to avoid problems. And more importantly: act according to them!

** Not following the above advice will only result in two things: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone else as if it did not happen and/or you are asked to leave the RP. This is obviously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them and act according to the rules mentioned above. **

Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna: Loranna is in Ald Raathim, having learned of a potential source of information regarding a paththrough the Velothi Mountains, and approved Alas's and Alack's plans to build a church of Zenthiar for Ald Raathim to bless the city's commerce, thus cementing Ald Raathim's position as the most cosmopolitan and Aedra-influenced city in Morrowind.

Gram Pyrel, on the other hand, has completed the mission to find Sivartus's grandfather's hidden study, and hopefully in the process discover a usable land route for Ald Raathim. He is currently doing something that will entail cracking open some skulls wink.gif.

"That's the best offer I've had all day, angel," he said. He hoped the smell of sweaty lizard wasn't too bad, though he didn't sweat in the same way as mammals.

"I see you worked hard last night also," he said, eyeing the small tears in her clothes. "What happened, did you find Redorans or something?"

Then it hit him. "Anya, was this the one who killed those children? You did everyone a favor if it was."

She worked her way closer to Shaka, uneasiness slipping away in his embrace. The frown partially left her face.

"No, this was just another vampire. I- I don't want to talk about the child-killer. But when this one, when she stabbed me, I just bit her to heal, it was different."

"Shaka, I just don't know what to do anymore."

The Argonian was silent for a while, content to hold her. "I still think you've come a long way from when you were turned; it's been less than two months. I was afraid at first that I'd lost you, that you were a demon who happened to still look like a beautiful woodelf. . . . But you proved me and everyone else wrong."

"I'm not surprised that animal blood doesn't satisfy you, but I don't know what to tell you, Anya. Maybe we need to go back to Loranna and tell her you're still having trouble maintaining control."

Anya looked up and shook her head, "Loranna already knows. I've talked with her already with less than desirable conclusions."

Her eyes focused in. The way she had leaned in, his neck was put at eye level. Impulsively she reached up with a hand and lightly glided her fingers over his scales. They felt immensely different than the smooth skin of Telera, or the ticklish fur of Kiseena. More exotic, and enjoyable in ways that others couldn't provide.

Her eyes darted as she swiftly pulled her hand down. Burying her head in his arm, she whispered, "I love you..."

Posted by: syronj Feb 3 2006, 12:07 AM

"My ain true love," he answered in a low voice. Shaka was close to choking up; Anya hadn't asked to lose her life to the shapeshifter Dayla.

He almost said aloud that Anya might have to use her Cattle after all. Shaka didn't want to anger his love.

"Anya, do you want to try staying at the yurt tonight? I'm offering it freely." Shaka looked steadily at the bosmer, both of them knowing it would mean her drinking from him.

As long as she can keep herself from killing me, he thought.

"Her Grace has requested your presence at the castle," the Dunmer servant replies. "She looks forward to meeting with you at the earliest convenience."

He waits patiently for Llana to finish her fish.

Now the septim signs were really going off in her head, a summons to the Dutchess, what a brilliant opitunity, 'Three seconds' she said, and within those three seconds the fish was gobbled up.

Anya kept her face buried in his arm. She didn't say much for a moment, just soaking in the embrace, a feeling she found all too fleeting.

After a moment, she spoke up, somewhat muffled, "I'll go, but not for the reason you might be thinking. I just don't want to be alone. I just want to be with you."

Some moments later, and Llana is being escorted into Loranna's study, the Duchess rising and smiling to the Bosmer as she is introduced.

"Six thousand? Impressive; now to convince you to help restimulate our economy," Loranna says, smiling and wondering who had six thousand septims to throw into a single purchase like that these days.

"Where'd you come through in the mountains?" Loranna asks Llana. "Did you have to dodge any Redoran or Indoril patrols to get here?"

Impassable in winter; damn Imperials giving up because of the snow, Loranna thinks to herself in a rare moment of pure Nordic stubborness. Still ... maybe if a couple actual Nords go look at this pass ...

"I see; I never knew about Angerel," Loranna says, musing over the map. "Did your guide mention much about that ruin?"

I'll have to ask my father to check this out; he likes poking around places like that ... Loranna thinks, smiling a brief 'Wicked Daughter Planning Doom For Her Father' smile.

'Angzerel, a-n-g-z-e-r-e-l. The guide made a point in spelling it out to me. Like I need to know how to spell any Dwemeri ruin. I enquired about it, and he said he and his friends used to play in the ruin as a kid. But the door to the inner sanctum is quite locked. So sorry that that is all I can tell you, your grace'

Summary

Kethiah, the ex-assassin and formerly busy co-proprietor of the Nymph and Noggin (as well as formerly Loranna, Duchess of Ald Raathim's excise and import/export agent, and secretly, her Spymaster) is asleep in her room at the Nymph and Noggin, grateful that her unborn son is not kicking her quite so hard right now.

Alas and Alack, Khajiti ex-smugglers and currently (secretly) the Duchess's Spymasters, are waiting at the docks, because ...

The Docks of Ald Raathim

Two boats sailed into harbor, flying the symbol of the Anvil, the symbol of the Resolution of Zenithar. On board both ships were fifty men and mer dedicated to their God, and to the temple they were building to him.

Alas and Alack looked at one another. They had picked up their uniforms at the tailors, and looked every bit the part of Priests of Zenithar.

Immediately, they put the men to work on the warehouses.

"Let me get back to you on that in a day or two," Loranna says, smiling back. "I need to talk to some people ..."

The two women talked a bit more after that, mostly about ways Llana could help attract some more business for Ald Raathim through her engravings; Loranna promised to introduce Llana to some people who would find her services helpful. At the end, both women went their seperate ways, feeling pleased at having made a fruitful acquaintance this day.

Leaving the castle, Llana made her way back to the boat. She needed to speak to Alas and Alack about Erenuis, and the chat with Loranna. Noticing two well dressed Khajiit Priests standing on the docks, she smiled and approched them,
'May I please have a word with you two Priests of Zenithar? It is about an arrangement I have made with a couple of dirty Khajiit' after she said this she grinned mischivously

A most impressive object was being unloaded carefully from the second ship: a hundred-foot tall obelisk made of alabaster so finely polished, it reflected back shades of the sea and sky. A crowd of villagers, sailors, and merchants had gathered among the docks to watch it be unloaded, and carried to the warehouses where it would stand above all, welcoming commerce to the Resolution of Zenithar.

"It be very good to unburden yerself of your sins, my child," Father Alas nodded seriously to Llana. "We wants you always to come to we on spiritual matter suchly."

"Forsooth and verily," Father Alack agreed, as they found a quiet spot near the Senchal Rose to talk.

Llana looked around to make sure noone was listening and started
'Okay, that second job you wanted me to do, informing you of my clientel, I got a very good contract from a certian Erenuis or somthing similar. He wanted twenty copies of a map of Western Ald Raatham District, I have a copy in my room... he was even willing to pay far more than he should have to get it, as well as double if I could get it done in half a day, which in this war situation, kind of makes me suspicious. "Mmm," Alas said thoughtfully.

"Ah," Alack added.

They paid Llana as agreed for her information, and took a peek at the map that Erenius had commissioned. It was a mite queer, but perhaps it was just his desire to get things moving that caused him to overpay for the work.

"Some peoples only has two speeds," Alas said. "Full speed ahead or dead stop."

Anya stared at the sun with contempt. Magnus would set soon, and that would mean the burning would subside. But in the meantime, it was painful, and distracting.

Then again, she could still afford the luxury of operating in day or night.

Anya craned her neck, looking up at Shaka when he spoke, "What do you mean?"

Shaka didn't want to answer glibly, so he waited before saying: "Try to adjust to it as well. To love and serve . . . ."

"Sometimes I can picture you generations from now, maybe with Telera around for the ride. I'll be a faded memory, but I want it to be a good one. You'll get to understand how it was for Barenziah."

Shaka managed to say this without sounding self-pitying.

Did I just say too much? wondered Shaka. Carefully, he said: "If you mean that I could join you in undeath . . . I'd rather not, Anya."

He stood up from the bench. "I'm still hoping to hear back from the House of Dibella someday, see if I can petition the goddess to become Ra'Gada. You know I love you, but I can't . . . I'm sorry, elf." An Argonian vampire, that'd be one for the books.

They were only kept waiting a few moments. Marching out of the city in a short squat column were six men, armored as was normal in Ald Raathim's army, their shields on their backs underneath a large pack. At their head was Valerius. They arrived at the farmhouse and greeted Erenius and his men.

"Alright Erenius, you've been out here before," Valerius says to him, "Where should we start?"

Posted by: FireMaster Feb 4 2006, 01:24 PM

Erenius takes out a copy of the map he had printed and scans it.

"We are somewhere around here," he says, pointing to a modest plot of land marked on the map a very short distance from the road.

"This road," Erenius says, nodding to the road by which they stood. "Should take us right to the edge of the forested area. From there theres a narrow path leading to the cave almost directly. After that, I suppose we just fan out and hope we find something."

"Sounds like a plan," Valerius said, "Hopefully we won't have to do any trailblazing this early in the trip."

They formed up and moved out down the road.

After covering quite some distance, the road slowly turned north, very gradually. As it did so, Erenius and the others make their way across the distance seperating the treeline and the road.

A short distance in, a path, about two fathoms in width and a good distance in length, came to view. The eleven make their way along the path. The path itself was of packed dirt, and the footprints from the trip Erenius took with Sivartus and the others were still visible, albeit very faintly.

"Just follow these tracks," Erenius tells them as they continue.

They continued marching through the forest, Erenius and Valerius at the formation's head. "You never did tell me," Vlerius said to Erenius, "Why exactly you were out here and what the cave is." He looked down at the path, "Seems like quite alot of footprints for such a path."

"Figured that this area would be a good place to look for additional caves, seeing as how where there is one, there are usually others in the vicinity. And even if there are no others, I thought I may as well give you a good place to set up for further searches," Erenius concludes.

"It would be a good place to set up an outpost. That is with the Breton's permission of course." Valerius replied. "Hopefully other places like that will be easy to find."

Dar'Tessir is in the Nymph & Noggin thinking about the recent murders and his slowly worsening monetary situation.

Posted by: Shardie Feb 4 2006, 08:06 PM

Llana awoke early, and looked out the window at the sun, which had arisen over the horizon. Sighing, she donned her leather armour, and tied her hair back, and made her way to the nymph and noggin where she was to meet Loranna and her infamous heroes

Posted by: Nalion Feb 4 2006, 08:10 PM

Nalion sat at a table in the Nymph and Noggin, a scroll in front of him and a glass of wine at his side. He looked briefly up at the girl that just had entered. Folding the scroll and tugging it back to a leatcher case at his side, Nalion took a sip from his wine and looked around for some familiar faces.

Commander Slashes-With-Claws entered the Nymph and Noggin. He was looking forward to the trip ahead, a chance to get out of the city for a while. He had his dwarven claymore on his back. He had gotten it a few years ago in a ruin like the one they were going to.

Shaka was already suited up and armed. He waited on a bench in the Nymph, feet propped up on a chair. The open road was calling, he had to admit.

The prospect of exploring dwemer ruins was an interesting one. Shaka had been an amateur tomb raider in the past; perhaps they would get to see ruins that hadn't been as badly stripped as many.

He looked over at Anya, in her hooded cloak and armor. Shaka was glad that the Bosmer had decided to join the expedition. It might help take her mind off things . . . .

Erenius enters the Nymph and Noggin, having found no caves or places of use in the area. However, he returned alone, his men having stayed out to aid Valerius should he wish to continue the search.

Inside he sees many assembling. Never one to pass up a trek westward, he joins them.

Posted by: Loranna Feb 4 2006, 08:19 PM

Gram Pyrel enters the Nymph and Noggin, armored and equipped for another trip; in light of the nature of the excursion he has thrown a bearskin cloak over his armor.

"Hail, friends," he says, noding to Nalion and Shaka before turning to Llana. "And you must be Llana; Gram Pyrel, called Gram the Bold and Gram Twilightslayer, at your service. My daughter sends her greetings and well-wishes for us all, but sadly cannot see us off; she was called away on some noble business or another that I didn't quite catch."

"Fortunately," he adds with a wink, "I managed to get the mead fund fro mher before she took off."

Reichi sat in the Nymph and Noggin, fully suited and armed, but leaning back in a chair with his feet propped up on the table. Reichi of course, had made sure his boots weren't dirty before doing so. The barmaids would've given him hell about it. His head turned towards the door as a female bosmer entered.

Nalion returned Gram's greeting and stood. He looked at Llana inquisitively.
"I'm Nalion, pleased to make your acquaintance, Llana.", he said. Turning towards Gram, he asked "See you off? What's going on, are you going to smash some heads again, Gram?"

"Didn't you get the word?" Gram asks, looking surprised. "You've been pouring through musty old tomes too much, lad."

Leaning in, he says to Nalion quietly "There's a Dwemer ruin up inthe Velothi Mountains we're going to go take a look at - and the land surrounding it as well. Could contain some useful things for the city, you know."

"So I should get out more?", Nalion said, motioning Gram to come with him to the Mages Guild. "This might be a good chance to get some fresh air, actually."
"I also should try using magic in more than a training situation, after what happened at the battle.", Nalion muttered.
"Let's go!", the Breton said. He was dressed in common clothes and carried his staff and dagger with him, thus he was ready to go.

Erenius leaves the Nymph after Reichi, following Llana. He'd been to Cheyhindal once or twice as a child, visitting a relative there. By the time he got to the Mages' Guild he simply hoped the city had retained most of the charm it had on him and his parents some thirty or more years prior.

"Heh; well, I for one intend to check out the ruin afterward," Gram comments to Nalion as they make their way to the Guild. "You never know what you might find in those places, after all."

He grins at Nalion's enthusiasm and follows along, grinning to Reichi. "Last time I was there, you were taking a little side trip," he says, winking. "One we're all grateful for; I'm sure the weather in Cyrodiil is better this time around than my last visit, though."

Shaka left the block-long tavern, the Spear in its fringed leather case on his back along with his gear bag, which held warmer clothing for the mountain pass. Shaka had donned the Dragonbone Cuirass for this trip, though who knew whether its protection would be needed.

The group walked to the Mages Guild in several small knots, inconspicuously.

Slashes heds for the guild in his uniform of argonian battle armor. He had several types of potions on his belt and a stock of throwing knives.

Summary, sorta:

Telera is combing the ruined buildings left from the battle to find any vampires who may be hiding within, using them for cover during the day. She has been using detect spells to give herself a sense of where creatures are in the ruins and to avoid being caught unawares. However, so far she has only turned up a few animal dens of animals large enough to be noticed by her detect spells. Of course, given the nature of at least some of the vampires in the area, it’s quite possible that she found some vampires, not that she knows about that particular trick yet.

Anya chuckled as she made her way to the Imperial town, "Presumptuous girl."

Anya toyed with her dagger, leaving her spear at the mine, "I wonder if we'll run into trouble."

"I think the last time I was there was when all this mess got started. The heartfire ball or whatever," Reichi replied with a grin. "I think I ate the horse I rode in on, though..."

Reichi entered the Mages' Guild and made his way to the Guild Guide, where he paid for his transportation to Cheydinhal. A few moments later, Reichi found himself in another guild hall, this one however built in a more cyrodiilic style, and it wasn't as warm as the one in Ald Raathim had been.

The residents of the guild of course, couldn't help but stare at the oddly armored silver-haired Dunmer. Reichi grinned toothily at them, and quickly made his way out of the guild hall.

"Now lesse...something about a willow pond...no no, willow tree at the pond. Right. But what was it near? Somethin' Manor," Reichi muttered to himself. Several minutes of searching eventually brought Reichi to the pond.

Some while later, Shaka found the pond as well and raised a hand in greeting to the wolfen.

Nice town, thought the battlemage. Cheydinhal didn't seem that affected by the civil war on the other side of Cyrodiil's border. A covered bridge arched over the pond; families strolled in the park.

Erenius leaves the Guild ahead of the others, taking his time walking through the streets. Much had changed, yet the layout remained more or less the same, but he still had no trouble finding the pond, or the willow by it.

Gram's mighty frame, bearskin cloak, and proeminent if sheathed weapons draw many stares from the citizens of Cheydinhal; the red-bearded Nord smiles bemusedly in response, eventually finding himself at the pond where the party is meeting up.

"Hmm ... a quiet little pond," he remarks as he wanders up to his companions. "Not a bad place to while away an hour or two, though the taverns would be a better choice."

Posted by: FireMaster Feb 4 2006, 09:14 PM

"A tavern may be the better place, but here we are told to wait, and here we shall wait," Erenius replies to the Nord. "I'd rather not upset our guide so early."

Posted by: Nalion Feb 4 2006, 09:14 PM

Nalion wandered from the Mages Guild towards the pond where they were supposed to meet Llana. He smiled at his companions but chose not to join them for a moment, as he saw that Llana was not here yet. Instead, he walked towards the willow tree and stretched out his arm to touch the bark. He looked looked up at the branches which were swaying lightly in the summer breeze and birds were singing in them.
The Breton smiled and sat down by the pond, beginning to throw small stones into the water and watching the ripples spreading in the water.

Anya walked up next to Gram, laughing, "You and me both, old warrior."

She pursed her lips for a second, "Well, no so much for me anymore."

Anya took a moment to glance about, not seeing Llana near, "Where is our illustrious guide, anyway, didn't she leave before us?"

'Pyrel?' thought the Magistrate. He knew that name... oh yes, his old Dunmer friend Indoril Faryon had mentioned it a couple of times, 'If your passing through, dont loiter around here for long,' with a dissapointed face, the Magistrate left

And as he left, Llana came from the shadows, with an ebony bow by her side, and a quiver full of arrows. Behind her was a Dunmer, 'Hope he didnt give you any trouble. I have to be honest with you,' her voice decreased to a whisper, 'He and I go way back, so I have to keep a low profile in town. As the magistrate leaves, Erenius is gladdened. Both at the exit of the official, but also at the entrance of Llana as he leaves, and her friend, this Athaso person.

"Was wonderring when you'd show," Erenius says to Llana, giving a nod to her companion after speaking.

Nalion stood up from the pond after the last ripples in the water were gone and moved over to the party, nodding to Llana.
"Very well." he said, then turned to the Dunmer. "I am called Nalion. Nice to meet you."
The Breton hid a smile as he looked at the Dunmer. So many people had so innocently expressed their will to join a party like this. To which end it would lead - if there was ever an end - noone would know. Nalion himself had made this decision more than a year back, and he had gone a far way since then.

For a dark elf, Athaso seemed likable enough, Gram muses. Still, it'd be the height of foolishness to let the boy go out into the world with a rusted weapon his only defense.

"Well, point me in the direction of the nearest weapon trader and we'll see about getting you a good steel blade at least," he says to the Dunmer. "On me; for being such a brave lad."

'Everyone knows each other now? Lets not dawdle, some of us has a business to run,' Llana said impaitently, pulling a scarf around her face, and walking to the gate, 'we must follow the road to Septims Gate Pass, at the hamlet of Remans Ridge, we will stop and resupply, alright? There is a blacksmith there who can help Sethan with his sword problem'

"Eh?" Athaso was caught off guard with the sudden unexpected generosity, but quickly recomposed himself, "Well, I believe there is a Weaponsmith off in..uh, that direction," he said pointing down one of the streets of the town. "But that's really not necessary..."

Posted by: syronj Feb 4 2006, 09:59 PM

The road to the Pass ascended gradually, and after a few hours Shaka found himself taking the warmer clothing out of his gear bag. Reman's Ridge proved to be no more than a hamlet, with a frontier feeling to it. There seemed to be little more to it than a single tavern and a few herders' homes.

He walked along a board sidewalk in search of the blacksmith, with the others.

Erenius looks about Reman Pass, finding it nice and quiet, yet quite chilly. Luckily, he had brought an insulated leather jerkin to wear beneath his armour, which kept his chest warm, yet did little for his arms and legs. He didn't mind that though, the cold kept him alert, and soon enough he'd be warmer again when they got moving out of the town and down the other side of the pass and back into Morrowind.

"Trust me, when you hit something with that and the blade snaps in half, you'll realize it's necessary," Gram says, noticing that everyone else is hurrying off. "Ah; our comely guide wishes us to get a move on - rule number one, never keep a woman waiting, lad. Especially one with an ebony bow."

By the time the party reaches Reman Ridge, Gram was grinning; the cool air felt invigorating to his lungs. "Now then! Time to see what blaes they carry in this hamlet." He looks to Anya and winks, saying "Might you accompany me to the weaponsmith, my lady?"

'Half an hour, and we meet back here,' yelled Llana, as she sat down, pulling out her bow, and started firing arrows at a distant tree... whilst unwrapping a battered fish and picking at it with a bottle of mead nearby. She was a surprisingly good shot

Kratos and Ivelaes are sailing to Ald Raathim. The port is in sight from their position on the Inner Sea.

Astien Dalomax remains busy juggling his Mages Guild and Dibellan duties.

Erenius finished his errand quickly, buying two changes of clothing, one of them kept in a gum-cloth wrapping to stay dry, the other, a heavy fur and wool shirt. As he returns he notices Llana picking at her fish, as always.

"What is it with you and that fish?" Erenius asks, taking a seat nearby, using his pack as a stool, unwrapping some cured rat meat and taking a bite from that.

'It is a new technique for cooking fish. You cover it in flour and mead, and fry it in cornberry oil, and the crust on the outside keeps the fish inside nice and fresh for long journeys,' she shot another arrow at the tree, they were silver arrows, this one, like most of the others, hit the tree, 'I just like fish, its somthing Ive always liked.'

Barring that though, or a Dwarven sword, I say get him a silver longblade and matching dagger; we'll pick up a spare sword for him while we're at it."

Nymph and Noggin

P'Rassha worked for a couple of hours in the city, helping with the reconstruction efforts. There was still a lot of work to do, but the majority of heavy duty work where the nine feet tall bipedal jaguar was so valuable were done.

He went to the Nymph and Noggin, hoping to see all his friends and realized, as he entered the building, that he recognized only one regular: the redguard bard Dana.

The huge khajiit was disappointed, but felt really weird at the same time. He was happy to see Dana and to have the opportunity to talk with her alone...

NO, he doesn't like that woman. She's is a competitor and her attitude is just...just...just...lovely...

P'Rassha finally approached Dana and sat at her table without asking her consent.

"Greetings, Redguard, P'Rassha is happy to see you here. Do you know where the others are? P'Rassha doesn't see any familiar faces around."

And even though he openly dislike Dana, he sounded sincere about his happiness.

It didn't take long, and she presently made her way back. As she stepped outside, she handed Athaso a silver long sword and a matching dagger some would say she got for a steal, "There you go, trust me, you'll be glad you have a working, trustworthy weapon. Especially with us."

Ald Raathim

The stern of Kratos' flagship, flying Vivec's tower, hit the dock gently and the mariners began tieing it to the port.

The many other ships docked as well and soon the Temple warriors were unloading their gear and supplies. Many boxes of food and clothing had been brought with them and it was their intention to donate it to Ald Raathim's needs.

Kratos walked the gangplank down to the ground, his golden and black Indoril Armor glimmering in Magnus' rays. He took a few minutes handing out orders to guide his free but loyal men before taking a short break just staring out at his surroundings.

It was not the same Ald Raathim he had left for Molag Mar, it was different now: bigger, busier, and wartorn. Kratos frowned as he saw the many people struggling to get through the horrible time, he was used to this from the many battles he had fought on Vvardenfell.

Molag Mar had recovered from battles before, and Ald Raathim would too in time.

Kratos was relieved to see his house had only suffered mild damage compared to the rest of the city as he made his way to the Castle Daruhn.

The ex-Ordinator stood before the guards at the gate, his posture even more battle-hardened then it had been before. "May I ask you to tell the Duchess that one Kratos is here to see her?" said the Dunmer, his voice serious and deferential.

'Ah, thats good to hear,' she said to Athaso, then to all, 'Okay, its straight up, watch out for the bushes with the pink flowers, because they have a poisonous barb, lets go!' she began to walk up the mountian, her bow over her sholder, up towards the high, snowy pass to the north, instead of the much easier pass to the East (which was, controled by Indoriil Forces)

With a few hours of climbing, they were at the top of the pass, yet dark clouds with a greenish tinge were moving towards them at a frightening pace from the North West, 'We better find cover before that storm hits, 'Llana said, 'There is the Dwemer ruins just down there if we hurry'

"Thank you, P'Rassha will be happy to drink sometimes with a new friend."

He looked back at Dana and smiled. After a second, he realised he was doing exactly the opposite he wanted to do and ran outside, in the direction of the Mage Guild.

Following the traces of Gram and his companions was easy. A nord, two argonians, a bosmer and an imperial don't go unoticed. He managed to catch up with them a couple of hours later, thanks to Violetta and her power over P'Rassha's speed. He kept from shouting at them, though, and approached the party with all the stealth he was capable of. And it was surprisingly efficient for a nine feet tall kahjiit.

*

"Looks like we'll be exploring the ruins earlier than I had planned," Gram says with a tight-lipped smile - though the greenish clouds made him uneasy. Clouds like that meant bad weather, really bad weather, and up in these mountains, that could very easily mean suffering or death to the tardy.

"To the ruins then!" he says, forging ahead toward the ruins.

"Hopefully the ruins are unoccupied," Reichi commented, pulling a cloak he had purchased in town closer around him. Reichi drew his Dagger of Senses, just in case. "And the doors not frozen shut or something..." Reichi trailed off. With the enhanced senses of the dagger gave him he could smell a Khajiit, though none was present in the group. It was familar, however.

"I think we have company."

Slashes looked about, his predator's nose picking up the scent. "I smell it as well." He drew his claymore.

"You noticed too?" Anya said, pausing before she started towards the ruin, "Unfortunately, it's not one I recognize."

Anya shrugged, and started towards the ruins, not particularly startled.

Kratos left the castle gates after being told the Duchess was out of town at the moment.

He wandered around the city for a while, noticing the ruins of the Drunken Guar with grief. The first place he had met his friends reduced to a pile of rubble.

The golden warrior wondered what happened to Isidor and Kethiah's own tavern and was relieved to see it still stood.

He entered the Nymph and Noggin hoping to find a familiar face to say hello to. An ex-Ordinator/Grandmaster is pretty hard to miss wandering into a tavern.

Shaka picked up the pace, his taloned feet wrapped in cloths to take some of the edge off the cold. He barely noticed P'Rassha's arrival, intent on reaching the dwemer ruins.

I heard someone say that part of the ruins has been known to the locals for generations, though part of it is still locked, he thought grimly.

Once inside, they would be too warm if anything; the non-Argonians in particular. The dwemer had seemed to run their complexes off the heat from the earth. . . .

P'Rassha was no fool, he realised he was spotted by Reichi. He decided it was time to make his appearance.

Just as stealthy as before, he managed to sneak behind the group and said:

"You know P'Rassha could have killed you all if P'Rassha wanted. But do not be afraid, that's the last thing P'Rassha wants."

He approached even closer and saw two faces he didn't know.

"And who might you be, friends? P'Rassha is P'Rassha, nice to meet you."

And P'Rassha gave a handshake to Llana. His hand was about the size of her head. A large Nordic Battleaxe was strapped on his back, along with a gigantic Bosmeri Longbow...He was simply huge.

Angzerel Ruins, Angzerel Pass

The room wurred with the strange sounds of Dwemer machinery. A haunting noise was heard, but the room, lit by the strange Dwemer lighting rods, was empty, save a fireplace which it looks like hadnt been used in some time. there were four doors leading from the chamber, to the left there was a small door, held opened by the rusting body of a slain Steam Centurian, the right door was the same size, but closed. Behind them was the door to the outside, but it was the large, arched Dwemer door which was the main feature of the room

"I think this is one of the greetings I do not appreciate from friends. First words and then saying you could have us killed...", Nalion shook his head.
He looked at the ruin's doors warily.
"Anyone want to take the front? If we have to stay here for a while, we should probably clean out this ruin so that nothing can get us whiule we are resting or waiting."

In the mage's voice was a tone of urgency as he looked warily at the sky.

P'Rassha lowered his head after Nalion's comment.

"P'Rassha is sorry. P'Rassha didn't want to make Nalion felt bad. P'Rassha only though it was a good joke to make."

He turned towards the others while he entered the ruins.

"So, is this the place you were looking? Someone in town told me you were adventuring without me. You know better than to leave without P'Rassha. You could get hurt otherwise."

Although he tried to be funny, it was clear P'Rassha was sad by Nalion's reaction, he was really sorry and it showed.

Gram regarded P'Rassha'ssudden appearance with a shrug, though he did mutter into his beard about people running around when a blizzard was threatening outside.

The Arched door was locked, and by all accounts, the lock seemed complex.

P'Rassha took some time to look at the steam centurion and to poach him from all the reusable scrap metal he could find.

He had investigated one of the strange Dwemer machines when Gram called him, and so he walked over to Gram and took the book.

'An Expedition to the Angzerel Ruins, 3E190'

3rd Rains Hand

Today we made camp in one of the antichambers of the main room. Azerel had to dispatch a Steam Centurian as we entered. Studing the glyphs, on the pipes it mentions something about a wormgod. Tomorrow we search for a key deeper into the Ruins

4th Rains Hand

In the second antichamber room, we found a usable room, possibly a dwemer living quarters. In which, we found a mechanical looking key. Testing it into the main door, we found it opened. We worked our way deeper into the ruins

5th Rains Hand

We have reached a point where we can go no further. There is a room with several wheels on the pipes, possibly a Dwemer power generator? If so I would like to study this some more

6th Rains Hand

Julie made flapjacks today, delicious. Nothing else to report

7th Rains Hand

Today we managed to decypher the puzzle of the power room! By turning the correct wheels on the pipes, it opened a chamber to a new room. Exploring it deeper, we discovered a long corridor of inactive dwemer robots. It was getting late so we headed back locking the door behind us

(this is where the diary ends)

"I wonder what is behind the door.", Nalion asked, then turned to Reichi. "So this is the key? Very interesting!"

Nalion reacted as soon as he spotted the spectres. He stretched out his hand towards the Wraith Llana already attacked, pointed with his fingers and mumbled a spell.
Lightning flickered over his hand, formed a sizzling blast of energy...

Llana pulled an arrow from her quiver, and fired it at an unharmed specter. As the arrow flied through the air, and made contact, the entire area was engulfed in a lightning surge, killing the target, and injuring the other specters

Nalion nodded. "Splitting might now be a good idea, but I think we should go into the direction of where the Spectres came from. After all, in the room with the two skeletons, there was a Spectre, too."
Nalion looked worried, especially after his spell had failed, and so he gripped his staff faster.

They came from the left,' Llana said, heading down the corridor to retrieve her lost arrows. She found the glass arrow in one piece more or less, but the area effect arrow had used its last charge. A shame, thought Llana, since those things were expensive

The group followed the aisle towards the left. The hallway went steadily downward deeper into the ruin and made a bend always to the left.

"If I am not mistaken, we shold now be under the entrance room. This aisle has led us down in a half-circle.", Nalion said. As they turned around a corner, a hall opened before them.
Dozens of pipes led to many dwemer devices, wheels were turning and spinning, metal clacked on metal. It was apparent that this must be what the book had described as power generator room.

Gram's eyes start to cross from watching all the turning gears. "We seem to be following in our predecessors' footsteps," he rumbles. "So now then, what was the secret of this room that the book revealed again?"

His eyes scan the room for hidden dangers as he asks, privately wondering how the Dwemer endured all this racket.

"One does not return from war, and carry himself as you do. Perhaps you can would take a seat and talk? Allow me to return momentarily with a meal, Dunmer are fond of horse, or so I hear." Bob replied.

The Dunmer returned quickly with a plate, leaning his massive four foot butcher knife along the door leading from the bar to the kitchen, "When a scrib sheds himself of a previous skin, they do not return. Why has the Grandmaster taken the mantle of Head of Ordinators once more?"

*

Kratos raised an eyebrow at the meal Bob had placed before him, it was odd that he didn't enjoy the meal his race had become akin to. "I appreciate the effort, Bob, but i'm not hungry right now." He gave the Dunmer cook a half smile.

"Your euphemisms continue to bewilder your customers I see," smiled Kratos, "I do not take the mantle of head of anything. Why do you ask this of me?"

Pipes arose from the floor, leading to the roof, twelve of them in total, six on each side, each with a wheel on them. In the centre of the room was a large glowing object, encased in Dwemer metel, lighting the room onimously.

'So,' Llana inspected one of the wheels on the pipe, 'we turn one of these to open the secret passageway. Shall we get to work?

ooc, whilst our heros try to figure out the code of the engine room, this might be a good place to break for the night...

Bob tapped the Indoril armor with the back of his hand, "The Muatramer, symbols. You are, were, the Grandmaster. During your time, symbols should have become commonplace within your mind. The symbol of this armor should not escape you."

Bob shrugged, "Euphemisms are a level of cullery for the mind. Indeed, they are useful tools, the scrib is a hearty foe to examine. If one is bewildered by a simple analogy from an old cook, what hope do they have here? Scribs are true symbols to follow, and rather tasty as well."

"These are not Muatramer armor symbols, these are the symbols of Ayem, Seht, and Vehk. I abandoned that other shell a while ago. I serve Almsivi in my own ways again, not another's." said Kratos.

"Bob, if I wasn't mistaken one could dub you the King of Scribs." Kratos smiled. "Tell me, how has everybody fared while I was away? Where are Isidor and Kethiah?"

Bob let out a deep laugh, "The scrib is no longer a scrib, but a Kwama Warrior. Yet, he lets the Queen still keep the reign tight. No, symbols do not escape you."

Bob frowned deeply, "Master Isidor has had a scare recently. The hardships of life seem to have taken their toll on Mistress Kethiah, and she is resting. I have offered my services in maintaining the taverns integrity during the times Master Isidor waits on Mistress Kethiah. A scrib will not abandon the mine if the Queen is ill."

"The Duchess has much on her plate. The damage is apperent, as you've seen. We are besieged. A new temple is taking root near here, two eccentric khajiit have taken residence and control of the docks. Daft two creatures. And ambassdor has visited as well."

"Much has happened, Ordinator. Newcomers looking to prove themselves, but unsure of what to prove, hardships. Undead have infested themselves here with their unholy taint. Rumors flood of internal fighting with them too."

"Many are off now, campaigning for a passage for supplies. A comely lass has recently made her presence known. Good girl, knows a good fish meal when she tastes one. She has some information that people like."

Bob passed Kratos the plate of food, "This isn't horse, Friend, you haven't been gone so long as I can't remember the plate you have enjoyed in pass times. You do not reach my age and not remember what aquaintences love. I am Chef. Remember though, do not mistake the tossing of one shell for the one that offers the illusion of freedom. Many a scrib never escape the shell made around them."

"No need to worry, I have brought much supplies with me from Molag Mar, but opening up a land route is a choice idea. The men that follow me should be happy to help in assisting the reconstruction of Ald Raathim." said the Dunmer, devouring the first piece of scrib jerky with an evil grin.

"This scrib is fantastic, Bob. It saddens me to hear of the trouble my friends have found themselves in, but we have all found ourselves in trouble recently." Kratos' grin turned to a frown.

"More Imperial influence is the last thing we need around here, that's one thing that started this war. They should be building more temples for Almsivi, this is Morrowind not Cyrodiil. But I guess change should be welcomed. Forgive me Bob, I have grown weary with this war and my people's suffering." Stated Kratos.

"This exsists as the center for the catalyst for the future. Change begins with troubling times."

"Kratos, Ordinator. I only dispense advice, and reasoning."

Bob picked up his pot, "Look at this pot. Cold, hard, no emotion present in it. It has one purpose and one purpose alone. Yet I keep it in impeccable shape for that purpose. The scrib, hearty, willing, faithful. Blind. Scribs are to be admired, enjoyed for their taste and sustenance. But we are not scribs."

Bob stood up, "Forgive me, Friend, I have work. I have one thing to say. Are you a pot? Kept in impeccable shape for one thing? Are you the scrib? Go rest, it's what people do when weary." Bob left for his kitchen.

Kratos couldn't keep back a shout of laughter. "See you later, Bob."

He made way back to the docks to help unload and get his free men situated in Ald Raathim. They would sleep on their ships tonight to avoid overcrowding the establishments when others really needed the space.

The boxes of food and clothing were immediately given to the Duchess' men after they were unloaded.

Shaka slung the Spear of Bitter Mercy on his back and fanned out with the others to examine the wheels. As ever, he was struck by how alien Dwemer design and philosophy were. Sometimes it was hard to believe that they had been one of the mer races, when they were almost the only people to have embraced technology - - a word that didn't even exist in several of Tamriel's languages.

It's as if they deliberately built puzzles for their own people, he mused, and not just as a test for intruders. The Dwemer put their faith in their arcane philosophies and their machines, rather than in the gods. Tried to become gods, with predictable results. . .

Incredible that no matter where one found Dwemer ruins, the machinery within almost always continued to function for millennia after their builders' destruction. It was almost as if the machines were alive; self-repairing to a degree, though not very sentient.

Athaso trailed the group to an extent, not getting invlolved in the combat with the specters. He followed them down the hallway, but instead of continuing with them down the hall to the left, he stayed where the corridors intersected, and more-or less stood guard. They can handle themselves with anything they find anyway.

At the Nymph and the Noggin, a familiar face was behind the bar: Diamond. Dilave had tracked her to the vampire hideout and dragged her home; what was going on, she didn't yet know, but she was still recovering; she would deal with that later.

Loranna: (intense stare!)

LOCK ON!!!

With these words spoken, the world changes!
