The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses

Posted by: Loranna Dec 12 2005, 01:35 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

===

Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855 before starting up; everyone will be happier for it. Also, http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.

To help you get up to speed, here is http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html. This summary doesn't cover everything but it sums up some of the bigger events our campaign has covered. Note: She will probably update and edit this summary as time goes on.

===

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From there, type /join #Loranna_RP

You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

IMPORTANT: WE HAVE JUMPED SIX MONTHS INTO THE FUTURE; IT IS NOW MID YEAR IN THE RP (i.e., June)

Summary for Loranna: Loranna is in Ald Raathim, waiting to hear from the rescue team looking for Goranthir. She has recently made a deal to the Breton healer Astien whereupon he will make potions for her, learned of Nalion's progress in unraveling the mystery of his terrible vision, and heard from Maranda that hthe Breton's former Daedric mistress doesn't seem to be done with her yet. The repressed stress from worrying about all these factors and more seems to have given Loranna a nightmare.[1]

Maranda has returned to her temple room to rest...

whilst Faryon continues to plot, plot and plot some more [2]

Summary: Shaka is waiting in the former Rethan Manor atop the Odai Plateau while Reichi and Anya attempt to contact Barenziah's spy within the household, a maidservant. He has spoken aloud in contacting Loranna's Mirror, and is waiting to report about King Helseth's cousin collaborating with the enemy, as well as the few clues they have found about Goranthir thus far. Summary

Kethiah, ex-assassin, co-proprietor of the Nymph and Noggin, Loranna's excise tax and import/export clerk (and secretly her Spymaster) is at her tavern.

Where Goranthir, Prince of Firsthold, is, what he's doing, and whether he's even alive is the question behind the quest Anya, Shaka, and Reichi are on. They know even the normally docile wildlife in western Vvardenfell have been acting bellicose lately, and as Goranthir has the ability to communicate with animals, there may be some connection there ... Ald Raathim

In the Nymph and Noggin, Drunken Guar, Bloody Sandal, and other places in the town where gossip is spread, word began about a shipwreck.

Kallen sent a maid to wake the Duchess.

"Your Grace," she said, touching Loranna's shoulder. "A ship's run aground in the bay outside the castle. It was scuttled by the mangroves, and is half-sunk ... There doesn't appear to be anyone on board." [6]

Posted by: stargate525 Dec 12 2005, 03:10 PM

There was not much buisness today, and the matter of Resartus' continued absence with an eighth of his stock weghed heavily upon him. Well there wasn't much that he could do to find Resartus sitting in his shop. Closing for the day, he headed for the castle to see Loranna. [7]

[10]

[11]

Loranna proves difficult to wake at first, but some firm shaking on her shoulder from the maid rouses her. With a haunted look, she brings herself back into focus.

" ... Tell Kallen to send some men to investigate if he hasn't already," she says to the maid once the night terrors and grogginess pass. "I'll be ready in five minutes."

It actually only took Loranna three and a half minutes to pull her hair back into a loose ponytail, throw her robe and shoes on, and otherwise make herself ready to face the day. Staff in hand, she hurries out, wondering what ship just crashed into the mangroves.

It was not the most auspicious way to start off the day.[12]

[15]

[16]

The ship was grounded in the sand not far from shore. Its sails were still up, groaning in the full wind that had pushed it through the mangroves. It was a large vessel, built for commerce and not for war.

Kallen had already ordered a couple rowboats to investigate, and they were moored outside the ship while the guards looked in.

In a few minutes' time, they came back out, and began rowing back to shore. Their faces were pale, eyes wide.

"No one's alive in there," the first guard to reach dry land said. "They're all dead. Blood everywhere."[17]

"Crew torn to pieces," the guard nodded, handing Dram the ship's log. "It looks like some merchandise may be missing. Some of the crates have been torn open too ... Pirates I guess."

Dram looked over the log. The last entry from Resartus said that the crew had been complaining of strange noises during the night on the way from High Rock, leading the superstitious to fear that the ship itself was haunted ...

[50]

I woke from a nightmae to a nightmare; tell me I'm still dreaming, Loranna thinks to herself, as Dram shows her the ship's log.

Gthyon's warnings come back to mind; it was easy to imagine in light of what he said what had happened. She had assumed that the threats he warned about would choose to come inconspicuously, by guild guide or by other means. She hadn't expected a bloody ship left on her front doorstep ...

"Go through and determine what exactly has been taken," she orders, "and bring over the bodies of the slain for proper burial. Send word to our navel captains to step up patrols."

She gives Kethiah a meaningful glance as people hurry about to complete her orders. There was a lot of work to be done ... [51]

"If there's a manifest on board, we'll know what has been taken," Kethiah said thoughtfully. "Resartus was a good trader, and was mostly legitimate, but there's hardly a merchant who hasn't picked up an occasional unknown or illegal shipment if the price was right ... If there was moonsugar or something else in the boxes, there'd be no way of knowing for sure."

[62] Summary

Reichi is at the former Hlaalu stronghold, Rethan Manor, attempting to contact the maid who is Barenziah's spy in the area.

[63]

[64]

The inhabitants of Rethan Manor seem very nervous as Reichi tries to contact the maid; granted, with the recent animal frenzies, they had every right to be, but something in the air suggested to the werewolf that there was more to it than that. People kept glancing at shadows as if to unearth hidden boogeymen.

The maid, a young Dunmer woman with a pale complexion and a face that was on the nominal end of pretty, stares at Reichi with a mixture of suspicion and something else, something that seems almost like longing. "Can I help you serjo?" she asks in a typically Redoran accent.[65]

[68]

[69]

Loranna sighs quietly. "True; not much we can do right now though but to try and retrace the ship's path, try to figure out what exactly happened ..."

The look in Loranna's face conveyed that she needed to talk to Kethiah alone, and soon. She herself hitches a ride with Kethiah, her fingers flexing as they approach the boat. "We're both getting too pregnant to be doing this sort of thing ..."

[74]

Reichi was put on guard by the obvious tension in the air. He had to make a effort not to grip his blade in precaution, but that would have made things worse. "Well, I do not know whether I am more hungry or thirsty, for I am equal parts both," he said. "So how about me and you go get a bite, a drink and have a chat, eh?" he added, to avoid raising suspiscions among the other servants. [75]

[79]

Kethiah nods. "Yes, but I'd go insane if I played it safe all the time."

The interior of the ship was a horror show, as the guards had reported. Twenty-eight sailors bodies were recovered, all in various stages of gore. According to the log, there were forty-one crew members originally, so some were missing, either having escaped, gone overboard, or been part of ... whatever happened.

Kethiah examined Resartus's body. His eyes were wide-open, a milky-white. He had been dead for over a week, clearly. His throat was torn open so deeply, he had nearly been decapitated.

The maid gives no outward show of anything being unusual as she says "Well ... the cook will rant and rave but ALMSIVI teaches us to be chariatable ... this way, serjo ..."

She leads Reichi to a quiet room in the manor, and slips off, putting a finger to her lips before she heads out. Moments later she reurns with saltrice bread, hackle ho leaf, ome crabmeat, and a couple mugs of greef.

"No one else seems to be watching," she says quietly, her accent fading a bit. "We should speak quickly though; ever since the Geht incident everyone's been on-edge - and the Temple inquisitor the other day didn't help things much."[85]

"It was two days ago; one of the Temple's Ordinators came by the manor - a woman, had the most intense eyes you'd ever seen,' the maid says, taking some crabmeat for herself. "She showed up late, spent the night asking about what we'd seen in the hills, any sign of strange individuals in the area, what did we know about the insane animals ..."

The maid sighs quietly, her voice softening to a whisper. "She was real quiet, you know, but she had a way of making people talk to her - even Salas, the obnoxious ogrim that he is. Never said anything rough, never raised her voice, never acted in a threatening way ... just you knew somehow you better talk to her."

"We told her what we knew; we seen most of the beasts passing through here heading north. Other than Balmora, not much up that way - a couple of old ancestral tombs, the egg mine, that's about it unless you're heading way notth." Kethiah found the manifest and port of call log in the bridge. She studied it for a few minutes, and then took the books below deck to look at the cargo hold.

Water had seeped in below deck, and the boxes were half submerged. It was still pretty clear which crates had been broken apart.

"Actually everything seems to be accounted for," Kethiah said. "Including poor Reeds's books, which are ruined now I'd imagine ... There was a port of call in Koegria, Wayrest, but no record of any actual cargo picked up there. They could have been dropping things off, or it could be contraband that wasn't recorded -- in which case, it was likely whatever was in those crates ..."

Reichi frowned, though the maid couldn't see it through the helmet. "Thank you," he said and headed out of the manor, making a 'MMmm' sound as he exited as if he had eaten the food provided. Reichi was troubled by this news, the beasts were heading north. And Goranthir had vanished in the north, in Ald'Ruhn.

He sought out Shaka and Anya. [107]

Posted by: Xyber02 Dec 12 2005, 05:44 PM

Anya stood up straight from where she was leaning on the wall. Walking next to Shaka, she said, "Have Reichi wait here with you, I'll be back in just a little bit. I want to chat with the locals."

With that, she turned towards the side of the rocky hills, and started heading down towards the marsh.

It didn't take long before she heard something crashing through the growth towards her. Seeing the nix hound, she couldn't be sure if it was half-crazed like the other animals, or just attacking her like the had a habit of doing.

Pulling a throwing star with a paralysis enchantment, she hit the hound, cause ing to freeze dead in it's tracks. Walking over to it, she flipped him on his side, and promptly sat down on the hound, securing the legs.

"Now, be a good boy, and I might let you go. Why are all your brethren screaming about new kingdoms?" [108]

"All the bodies looked like they were killed in battle," she says. "They bear wounds you'd expect wild beasts to inflict - bite and claw marks ... I'm still trying to figure out where the missing people went, but unless they had claws, I doubt they did any of the killing ..."

Her eyes rest on the floating remnants of the shattered boxes, scanning them carefully. She carefully lowers herself to look at the remains of the crates, looking for signs of what might have been inside. Something nags at her, but it takes a few moments for her to figure out what.

"Kethiah, look at this," she says, pointing to a fragment of crate that still had the metal straps used to hold the parcels together. She picks up the fragment and turns it over in her hand, pointing to the twisted metal. "Is it just me, or does this band look like it was bent outward, instead of inward?"[119]

Kethiah looked at it, and then at Loranna, her red and violet eyes wide. It would have been rude to suggest that Kethiah was impressed, but she was.

"So it seems," Kethiah said. "They were carrying something living in these crates ... and it, or they, got out ..."

Poor Reeds' books were, indeed, completely ruined. He had swam out to the wreck to find the fate of them, and was not pleased in the slightest. Anya hadn't been to Balmora in years. But it was nothing like she had remembered.

It had the feel of a patchworked town now. More patches on the buildings ond walls were evident than she remembered, and gave it a more or less desolate feel, to her at least. Not as many people walked it's streets, not that any town in Vvardenfell had as many people as before.

Mages Guild, Ald Raathim

Astien stood near a counter, mashing ingrediants with his Master's mortar and pestle while waiting for another alchemical potion to form in it's vial. The room that had been promised by Loranna was exactly the right size to be making and mixing potions.

After the necessary discussions and preparations, the party gathered at the entrance of the mages guild. As Loranna had promised, there were plenty of water breathing potions already prepared and they were dealt out to each.

Nalion looked a bit doubtfully at Loranna, but since she was accompanied by Dram and two very capable looking castle guards, the mage's worries faded. He turned to the others.
"We don't know what we will face there, so be careful and watch each other's back. Keep together if possible. Astien, I'd appreciate if you could watch our backs together with Loranna. It's good to have two healers around. Everyone ready? Then let's go."

Boats had already been prepared to carry the party over the water and after some searching, they finally found the entrance to the cave in a more shallow part of the bay. Still, the whole entrance was several feet below sea level and was half covered by seagrass. If the party hadn't known what they were looking for, they would never had guessed there was an entrance there.
"Looks like we're going for a little swim. Good luck everyone. Wait when you have entered.", Nalion said as he bowed over the low railing of the boat and gazed down at the water. He took off his shirt and put it into his pouch, then sealed the bag tight. The mage downed a potion, then dove for the entrance. [272]

Dram looks over at his Duchess, who had taken her shoes off but still kept her robe tightly wound around her body. Dram and the other guards wore thier usual bonemold, with Dram bearing his gleaming ebony shield. Loranna smiles ack at her bodyguards.

"I brought a feather potion for you three," she says, handing her guards two vials each. "Since you're bringing extra gear."

Dram simply raises an eyebrow as he gulps down the two potions, then nods to his men and says "Stay on either side of Her Grace; I shall take point." With that, he slides into the water, Loranna's potions lending him grace and speed.

The other guards follow suit as Loanna lithely dives into the water, grinning at the chance for a swim - even if it meant wearing a robe in the water. Together they follow Nalion.[282]

Breathing water always felt odd to Nalion, especially since he was used to counting down the seconds of the effects duration to be on the safe side. Luckily, he did not have to fear drowning when using the one's Loranna had provided. Nalion swam down swiftly and pushed the seagrass aside. Motioning to the others to follow him, he swam into a hole in the ground.

It grew ever darker as the party swam forward, until the light from the surface was almost gone. Nalion gestured and a small ball of light appeared in his hand. The glow illuminated a tunnel leading into a larger underwater cave.
However, the glowing ball illuminated teeth as well. Teeth and bones. The slaughterfishes were bare of flesh, but, driven by the magic that bound them in their unlife, they swam fast, flashing their sharp pointed teeth at the party. Their hollow eye sockets looked strangely... hungry. [291]

Astien immediatly cast the most powerful group reflect spell he had in his service, launching a shock spell at the undead slaughterfishes. The reflect spell would keep them from being hurt by the chain reaction caused by electricity in the water.

He winced as he realized the mistake he made to late; this would no doubt not go over well with Loranna and the others after.[296]

Her own natural resistances, coupled with her formidable magical defenses, protect her; Dram and the other guards are at least somewhat shielded by Astien's reflect - and, by the way Dram's shield glows, he himself apparently has reflect as well - so Astien finds himself the target of his own shock spell from two sources - the third guard cries out as the reflection spell fails to protect him.

Loranna hurrieldly casts several healing spells on her party members, gurgling "DON'T DO THAT!!!" as loudly as one can underwater ...

Dram and the second guard stay close to Loranna, blades drawn; the feather potions she gave them would make swinging their blades a bit easier in the water, at least. The third guard, once healed, finds he's got two slaughterfish on him and stabs away grimly.[301]

Loranna debates whether to suck all of Astien's stamina out of him when they're on dry land, to skip his stamina and go for his integral strength and agility, to cut to the chase and eat his will like a sweetroll, or to cast Fortify Strength on herself so she could bend him over and kick him in the face for being such a dope ...[305]

Shai froze as Astien's spell electrified the water around her, body quaking - she felt like there was a vice around her brain and she couldn't think or move straigh, she was caught, she hurt - and then it was over, and she was released, and she could breathe freely, and she exhaled deeply and sank down in the water.

Shaking her head to clear her mind, she swam with quick, muscular strokes towards the school fish, seizing one by the head and tearing the little bones and vertebrae off of its spine. Using this narrow stick, she then baited another fish and ran it through the ribcages of three fish in a row, dashing them against the rocks.

As the fish realized she was a threat and converged on her, the mages a few feet away faced a problem: could they fire on the fish without hitting her? [307]

Luck, is unreliable at best. Nalion didn't even think he was an especially lucky person. So it came to be that the beneficial reflect spell was absorbed by the abilities of his Atronarch sign, but the lightning spell raced through all defenses, with small flashes seemingly playing around over his body. He opened his mouth to cry out in pain, but underwater, his shout wasn't much more than a gurgling.[312]

The healing spells came just in time, and soon, Nalion's writhing from the lightning bolt stopped and the burns were healed. Nalion managed an angry, but weary look at Astien as he tried to put himself up for combat again.
Astien's spell was not wholly in vain though, some of the undead slaughterfishes were hit by the spell, writhed for a long time and then slowly sank to the ground.
The rest of the bone fishes had crossed the distance quite fast, though and threatened to bite into living flesh. [316]

Atrius needed to sit.

Rounding the corner, he suddenly heard a muffled commotion of voices. It was a somewhat lively tavern; the "Nymph and Noggin," as the sign said. Nobody seemed to pay any attention to him as he entered. He was immediately greeted by a certain mustiness, which comforted him.

He found a place at the bar, whose bartender immediately approached.

"Whaddya need, son?" he said.
"Ah, I am weary. The days wander, always. As I do."
"...Ehhh, I'll choose for you."
"No - Dwarven Ale"
"Ah ha! I say, son, a strong ale. Good choice."

He filled a pint and slid it to Atrius.

"That'll be 20 gold," he said.
"20 what?"
"20 gold,"
"Oh, I haven't got any of that."

The bartender shakes his head, chuckling. He takes the pint back and puts it under the counter. Atrius, suddenly feeling awkward, leaves the bar and finds a chair, looking about. [317]

Though fearsome, and undead, slaughterfish teeth were not necessarily the best thing for biting through bonemold, and especially not through ebony. Loranna's three guards find that the undead fish bite into their arms and then end up getting stuck, their teeth imbedded in the hard, worked bone.

Dram ends up simply smashing several slughterfish into pieces with his gauntleted hands, and his two guards, after a moment, soon follow suit. They work feverishly to keep any stray slaughterfish from reaching Loranna.

The Duchess, meanwhile, focuses her time on casting Turn Undead spells at anyone overwhelmed by the slaughterfish; it wasn't as permament as destroying them but it was the safest way to clear her friends from danger.[318]

Diamond called out to Atrius from behind the bar.

"Excuse me! Excuse me, sir! You look road-weary, and at the Nymph and the Noggin we are always happy to serve road-weary travelers. Many of these great heroes - " she motioned at the wall " - have come from such positions themselves. Allow me to give you a drink on the house."

She slipped some of her recent gold from portraits in with the rest of the day's money, and handed Altruis an ale. She would scold the other bartender later for making up drinks and taking advantage of an unsuspecting man - Dwarven Ale... [319]

Astien lowered his head, dropping his guard for just enough time to be swarmed by slaughterfish, despite Loranna's spells. He cast a few absorb fatigue spells until they couldn't clasp their jaws to him anymore; he quickly finished them with his staff, noting the look on the other's faces, they were frustrated with him and this made him frown.

It seemed to him that he wasn't making friends at all, not to mention that he thought the Duchess would banish him from her city upon their return. [324]

Posted by: Nalion Dec 12 2005, 11:01 PM

Nalion had finally recovered enough from the blast to think about defending himself from a pair of slaughterfish. He managed to target the one to his right with an absorb health spell, figuring that this would be the safest to use under water.
The mage wasn't fast enough to hit the second one, though, before sharp white teeth bit into his bare arm. For a brief moment of pain, he envied those who wore armour...

He stretched out his hand while trying to fend off the bone fish biting deep into his other arm, to no avail. The teeth digged tightly into his flesh. In a desperate motion that seemed very slow to him under water, he grabbed the tail of the fish, then let magick build up in his hand. Purple light trailed along the undead bones and drained it's health, restoring Nalion.
After the fish didn't move anymore, he ripped out its teeth from his arm and covered the remaining wounds with a healing spell of his own. [325]

While Reichi went to look for the weaponsmith, Shaka took Anya aside. They walked to the roof of what was rumored to have once been a Camonna Tong tavern for privacy.

"You've been kind of quiet, sweetheart," said Shaka. "Holding up all right?"

They looked east across the Odai River to the more commercial areas of Balmora, though every third shop or so seemed to be abandoned. The Odai River, shallow in this place, seemed to be running clear again, more than a year after the vampire infestation. [366]

In the chamber, there was just enough space for all of them to fit in. [375]

Atrius furrowed his brow. "Hm, oh, thank you," he said, staring into the froth for some time more, before deciding to take a small gulp. His face clenched with bitterness as he tried to swallow. He managed to, and he held the same expression for a small while longer. What flavor! He took another gulp, deciding he liked it. Three more large gulps and the pint was empty. He furrowed his brow again, examining the empty glass. Something overtook him suddenly, a great sense of relaxation, and he sat back in his chair comfortably. He glanced accross at the bartender woman for a moment, grateful.

And just then, to his relief, that noisy woodelf got up and left. He left his drink, too -- nearly three quarters of it. It was quite a bit lighter than the Dwarven Ale. The barmaid began to walk towards the table to pick up the beer, but Atrius took it, gulped it down, a small bit more satisfied. Puzzled, the barmaid turned around. [385]

[387] "Huh? Oh, it's nothing. Well, it's the animals, I guess. I wouldn't doubt he'd use them to stay hidden, if he was found out. But I've heard how Goran talks to them, and this isn't like him. I've never heard animals scream like they are, not even in the worst of them." Anya explained.

[388]

[389]

They sat down with their backs to the parapet wall, and Shaka held Anya's hand for the moment, in the absence of Redoran eyes.

"Yeah, the mystery has only gotten greater," he admitted. "I don't want to think that Goranthir is dead; he's always had a pure soul, somehow."

Shaka was silent for a while. He had always heard that the worst of fates was to outlive one's children. Goranthir and he hadn't been that close; but this was like hearing that a cousin's child was gone, or a nephew.

"I wonder if he could be alive, but the slave of Mannimarco; possessed in effect. It's better than thinking that he's dead but so dead in spirit that he's lost to us. I just don't have enough facts yet."

Shaka changed the subject. "Did you hear me talking to Reichi last night? He really is a lone wolf, I guess. But it shows me the Dunmer are still a closed book to me, however much I respect their ancient culture and beliefs."

"To think he's lived more than a century but never settled down anywhere." Shaka looked at Anya fondly. "He's a good mer to have by your side in a scrap, but I found I couldn't live that way forever."[390]

"I wasn't really paying attention to you or Reichi last night."

Anya sat down, while waiting for Reichi to eventually be able to talk to the weaponsmith, "Being alone.. isn't that bad. No one to hurt you, I guess. But I'd say Reichi is far from a lone wolf, no pun intended. He does, after all, stick close to Loranna and Ald Raathim." [395]

[397] Balmora

While Reichi went to look for the weaponsmith, Shaka took Anya aside.  They walked to the roof of what was rumored to have once been a Camonna Tong tavern for privacy.

[398]

[399]

Reichi wandered through Balmora, Lets see weaponsmith? Was it the one at the Razor hole? Or Meldor's? No...its was the fighter's guild... Reichi thought to himself. Reichi stepped into the Fighter's guild, using the lower entrance. The former weaponsmith, Wayn had always stood on the ground floor, but this wouldn't be Wayn, Wayn had been a Redguard, and most liekly had died in the blue dawn. Too bad, Wayn had always given him low prices. Even if he did try to goad Reichi into learning some armouring so he could repair his own armor and weapons. He already began thinking on how he was going to word the code this time, maybe he might not have to.

"Hey," Reichi said as he walked up to the weaponsmith.

"Yes, he serves out of personal loyalty to her. As I do. . . . "

"I'm sorry that the non-Bosmers have treated you so badly in your life, Anya. Being alone doesn't have to be the best choice. But enough of that."

Shaka rose. "We'd better see what Reichi has found out from the smith." Shaka's hand brushed Anya's face before they walked down the stairs and back into the public eye.[405]

In the chamber, there was just enough space for all of them to fit in.

Back above the water.
From the entrance to the town it was only visable at first.
Soon it was getting more visable to the plain view.
As it came tword the town, It was easy to see what it was.

A young Imperial...probably a teenager still, was riding on the back of an even younger guar.
It had a grey hue to it's skin.

Dyl rode to the mages guild, he needed some scrolls, he wasnt the least bit a magic user, and decided to get a start with it.
He tied his guar to the stable outside the building.
As he entered the dim guild the sound of a small explosion came from the alchemy room. Someone musta mixed something they werent suppossed to.

as he continued walking in, he noticed the quiet atmosphere was pretty peaceful after a long trip from the coast.
Mages in robes walked down the stairs, gave him an odd look as they went on there way.
Now he renembered why he didnt like magic... it's users.
He had a stigma with mages, always figured them as stuck up.
His quik judgement was really the reason he couldnt see past the robes and the books.
He walked over to the shelves stocked with potions.
"Hmmmm..... I wonder how buzzed I could get off this stuff?" [432]

A alchemist mage laughed at his selection.
"You know what that is?"
Dynate thought to himself, what? just because im not wearing a dress dosent mean I dont know potions?
"Yeah accually, it clams nerves, slows down thought process, increases concentration, and also works as a sleep aid."
The alchemist smiled
"Very good, so is concentrating an issue for you lately?"
Dyn grunted in discust.
"NO, i just decided to waste my money on an expencive sleep remedy! Now if u dont mind, im looking for one of the benefits this island of nowhere has, which is I can buy whatever potion i want, and not get any lip for it. Now can u please show me a potion that can help me with my ability to cast alteration."
The alchemist was an old orc woman, she frowned at Dynates mean tone, pulled down a small red bottle from the top of the shelf, and placed it on the table.
"130 Drakes."
Dyn laughed
"WHAT! I came here because the last place was trying to rip me off with 80."
The old orc face became even more scrunched up.
"They must of been on the same potion your chugging off, because it cant go lower than 100!"
Dynate saw his oppourtunity
"Fine than, 100!"

The second door openend slowly and the water that had filled the chamber flowed out intoa room of Dwemeri design, as those adventurers who had visited these kinds of ruins would immediately recognize. Tere was only one significant difference to other Dwemeri rooms. In this chamber, water seemed to trickle down the walls, keeping the metal floor slippery. The drops of water fell down in irregular patterns, filling the room with noise. The air was moist and damp and long veils of green and red lichen hung from the walls and ceiling. There was no being in sight, whether undead or alive.
At its back, the dwemeri chamber narrowed to a metal-floored aisle about three men abreast in width. In intervals, the strange glowing dwemer lamps were illuminating the way deeper into the complex and giving the impression that the party was gazing into a open construct's mouth, threatening to swallow them.

Nalion turned towards the group and motioned them to be as silent as possible. Hopefully, their entrance had been unnoticed.
"Prepare what spells or weapons you need, and again, be careful.", he whispered, focusing Astien for a moment.
With a wave of his hand, the mage let the blue ball of light that he had conjured up earlier vanish, to avoid alerting whatever was down there. He tightened his grip on his staff, then motioned Dram and the two guards to take point. [478]

The water from the first chamber was trickling swiftly down the tunnel and over a flight of stairs. As the party proceeded over the slippery floor and steps further down into the Dwemeri ruin, they could feel the air becoming more humid and warmer. There was another thing though they could recognize, though. There was a new smell that was slowly replacing the damp salty odour of the upper chamber. It smelled of death, rotten wet flesh, sickeningly sweet. The warm damp air only inreased this effect.

The source of the smell could be seen as the party turned around a corner: it was a preparation room for corpses, bones were arranged on tables, some cleaned of flesh, some still unprepared by the necromancers. Dried blood decorated bowls which contents better were kept uninvestigated. Knives and other tools hung on the walls.

The party's view was quickly drawn away from the horrible sight, as a group of humanoid skeletons with drawn weapons and bonewalkers closed in. The sound of their boney feet on the wet metal floor could make even bravest adventurers shudder.

Loranna looks disgusted as the stench and the sight of the corpses come into light; she hisses the words to her next spell, casting Absorb Strength on the skeletons and bonewalkers with a grimace. She was never happy to use absorb magic on undead things, with only one notable exception.

Dram steps forward to block the monsters from advancing on the weaker party members, his two guards taking up a position by his side. Ebony and adamantium blades lash out to rend dead flesh and smash through reanimated bone.[518]

[520] The source of the smell could be seen as the party turned around a corner: it was a preparation room for corpses, bones were arranged on tables, some cleaned of flesh, some still unprepared by the necromancers.

Isidor swore, silently. You knew there were going to be zombies. You just knew it. He walked foward and swung his axe wildly at the nearest bonewalkers' midsection. [523]

"Yeah, lets hurry to Caldera, those guys are ahead of us, and they're looking for the same guy, but we got information as our sole advantage."

[526]

[527]

The three struck out north to Caldera and arrived in late afternoon. They had been given two possible contacts in the formerly-Imperial town: a clothier and a knight.

Caldera had dug out from Red Mountain's ash and rebuilt in a more Dunmer style than before. Shaka had rented a floor from the orc knight Ghorak in previous years, but that knight had left town after Red Mountain had gone up. The battlemage wondered at the identity of the current knight. [528]

Nalion felt sick, in many times more sick than he felt facing this lich in the Vaults of Gemin. His stomach revolted, and he could barely control it. As a bonewalker, one of the greater kind, fired one of its feared damage strength spells, Nalion managed to conjure up a small fire spell, making the magic bolt explode effectlessly in mid air.
Quickly, another fireball sprang up at the mages command and as it hit, melted the flesh away, revealing white bone until the bone itself bent under the heat and impact of the magic projectile. The bonewalker collapsed.[529]

The skeletons' blades matched those of their enemies, but after the exchange of a few blows, the imagination and training of the living succeeded over the mindless, but powerful hacking of the dead and so, bone by bone, the undead fell to the sharp edges of the guards' and Isidors weapons.

However, another two skeletons, weapons held high, rushed at Isidor. Meanwhile, another greater Bonewalker cast a damage strength spell in the direction of one of Drams guards before charging in with the help of another skeleton.
Zadion was attacked by a bonewalker as well, who stretched out his boney arms to grab him while crossing the distance between them faster than one would imagine for an animated pack of bones and rotten flesh. [537]

As they made their way towards the clothier's, a shadow seemed to fall on Caldera, as if a cloud were passing over the afternoon sun.

Then someone screamed.

Immediately, the few citizens who were in the streets fled for shelter.

Nalion had disposed of another skeleton, having trouble fending off a couple of blows with his staff, then finally managing to gain the second it took him to cast a fireball at its head, making it explode. The headless skeleton staggered for a couple of moments, then it collapsed as the dark magicka holding its bones in place vanished.

Exhausted, and becoming aware again of the stench of the corpses, Nalion held his belly, desperately trying not to vomit. The recent vision, the tension he had felt during the last days and now the stench seemed to affect him more than he himself had guessed.

Only slowly, the mage seemed to gather himself again. [578]

The mage nodded, the thing he wanted to do most now was to breathe fresh summer air.
"Thank you. Let's do what we came here for, and get out of here.", he said, straightening himself.

There was a chamber furnitured with a Dwemeri desk and cupboard, filled with alchemical devices, potions, ingredients, hearts of various species in sealed glasses. in the back of the room was a large glass container filled with water, and three disgusting looking larvaes.
In the middle of the room stood, or sat, a slug-like, ugly being clad in a blood red robe. The skin on two sides of the Sload, for there was no doubt what that being was, was stretched out like arms, wrapping itself around an alchemical apparatus.

"The locals on Vvardenfell would tear him apart if he tried, Isidor," Loranna mutters, as her guards give Isidor stony looks.

She looks back at the Sload. "I would like to know though just what drove you to come here of all places. And what you would know about a certain dark aura that's been hanging over our city," she asks, her expression lacking her usual warmth, giving her tearstreaked features a decidedly severe look.

Atrius was well into his fifth pint of ale, having grabbed several more that were left behind. A Dark Elf stared at him and began to laugh; a low, dark cackle. Atrius froze.

Why did he laugh? Atrius's mood rapidly began to change. He sat and fumed, not daring to drink anymore. The dark elf stopped laughing. Atrius scowled.

Just then, it seemed, that elf's laugh consummated every feeling he suddenly began to have of this world; this awful, lonely world -- he despised it. The woodelf cackled, the barmaid cackled, the bartender cackled. The entire tavern suddenly began to cackle. Look at how poor he was! Poor and dirty and ugly! Atrius turned and looked straight at the Dark Elf, who began to laugh again.

"Shut up!" he yelled, hurling his half-filled pint directly at him. It missed by several feet but exploded against the wall near the elf's head, leaving a splatter of glass and brew. Quickly turning serious, the Dark Elf rose, unsheathed a short sword, and struck it down onto the wooden table, wedging it in. This threat didn't seemed to bother Atrius.

He scowled some more, then looked down. He decided to get up and approach the dark elf, who pulled his sword out of the table. The tavern grew silent. Atrius placed his hand on the hilt of his weapon, leaving it sheathed. The Dark Elf began to laugh again.

"N'wah," he said, before striking the hilt of his shortsword across Atrius's skull. With little effort, he collapsed backwards, out cold. [666]

Shaka knelt over the body of the clothier. "Damn. The poor woman . . . ." He straightened and looked out the window at the chaos. Most of the townspeople had gotten indoors in time, but it was an open question how much the Redoran guards could do. Caldera might have to wait until the netches had continued on, like waiting out a storm.

"I don't think we'll find anything written down in her shop. I guess Anya's right, all we can do is try the knight next, once the netches are gone."[671]

At this point, the guards in the Nymph and Noggin come to break up the fight, as it has escalated beyond a simple bar brawl. Atrius and the Dark Elf are taken to the local lockup to sleep off their drunkeness so that they do not go around pulling swords on people and hurting themselves or others.

Since Atrius is knocked out, the guards send for the local healer to tend to his head bump - and thus it is that Atrius finds himself being ministered to by Egalius Soccitus, and the first words Atrius hears upon waking are "Now really, the idea for blocking swords is you're supposed to do it with something other than your head, you know that kid, right?"[685]

The netches were still drifting through the city, though showing signs of finally continuing east. The three had locked and shuttered the shop, and were sitting cross-legged on the floor, playing cards.

In a very short time Ald Raathim had grown from a small settlement to a full fledged city, and was near to being large enough to not fit Arynel’s tastes. In the past he would retreat every so often into the mountains nearby so that he could clear his mind, but more and more often he would retreat simply to stay out of the way of the ever growing population.

Today, the Breton was doing exactly that, sitting on a large rock on a cliff overlooking the inner sea. There was an ominous wind in the air, he could feel it.[749]

[818] There was enough bustle in the castle that Anya was given much attention. She dodged the Dunmeri citizens and approached Vhurre. Speaking softly and trying to disguise her pitch somewhat, she addressed him, "I do not know whether I am more hungry or thirsty, for I am equal parts both. Perhaps you can help one such as I, for the attacks have made it difficult for me."

"That's putting it mildly," the knight nodded, and looked around. Lots of people here. "I'm feeling a bit peckish myself. Shenk's Shovel should be able to accomedate you with food and drink, and perhaps a private room if you're tired. Who knows? I may be along there shortly if I can get off duty." [821]

"Let's hurry then. I can't stand this place."

Zadion had been spending a few minutes in the sload's lair, gathering up some of the strange objects the creature had left behind. "The Archmagister Hannibal Traven has made the battle against necromancy a top priority of the Guild. Whatever we can learn about the practice can aid us."

"I will contact the Magister in Ephesus," he added as they made their way towards the sluice that would take them to the Bay. "They're in the Dragontail Mountains not far from Scourg Barrow. If there's anything strange going on in Mannimarco's former haunt, they'd know."[826]

There was a good-sized crowd in the tavern, talking about the various horror stories of the past couple of weeks. Some of the talk may have been exaggerated: people always seemed to know a friend-of-a-friend whose child had been attacked by mudcrabs, or carried off by cliff racers.

"Father Moonstone says it is unholy witchcraft, the forces of accursed Helseth at play," the tavernkeeper said. "Blessed Almalexia will cure this blight."

Vhurre arrived shortly there after. He saw the three in the corner, and shook his head before finding a table some distance away, where a couple people who recognized him greeted him.

Getting a private room for the night, Anya waved her friends and guest upstairs.

Outside the cell, a guard grunts to Egalius. How's Sleeping Beauty doing?"

"pfft! In MY day, it wasn't just any old upstart that could use Magick! You had to be at least a hundred years old! It makes me SICK, how any old young'un can come in and want to use....
