Hello,
and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and
socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
===
Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it. Also,
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as
possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.
To help you get up to speed, here is
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html. This summary doesn't cover
everything but it sums up some of the bigger events our campaign has covered.
Note: She will probably update and edit this summary as time goes on.
===
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are
encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for
some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is
not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there
for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely
to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously
not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

IMPORTANT: WE HAVE
JUMPED SIX MONTHS INTO THE FUTURE; IT IS NOW MID YEAR IN THE RP (i.e., June)

Summary for Loranna: Loranna is in Ald Raathim, having just been asked to send
champions to find Goranthir in Vvardenfell. She has consulted her companions
and formed a rough plan involving sending Reichi, Anya, and Shaka into enemy
territory to find their missing friend.[1]
Summary for Nalion:
Nalion, a male Breton mage approximately 36 years of age, has returned to Ald
Raathim from a longer absence. Just as he was catching up with the most recent
events, he had a dreadful vision of something being very wrong. What unsettles
him is, that he does not know where this vision came from or why it has come to
him. In a meeting with Loranna and his companions, where he was told that
Goranthir is missing, he told Loranna about his worries and promised to
investigate the nature of the vision. [2]
Summary: Anya is starting to prepare for an infiltration mission into Vvardenfell. Her and a few others are going to try and find out what happened to Goranthir. [3]
OOC: Summary
Dar'Tessir, male Khajiit, is waiting and thinking. Waiting for Nalion to
deliver the books he needs to copy and for the time when Reeds needs to meet
with his contact to get rare books. Thinking about how much his life has
revolved around books recently. [4]
Summary
Goranthir, Prince of Firsthold, grandson of Barenziah, and nephew of Helseth,
is currently missing in Vvardenfell, after having gone undercover to
investigate the nature of the "False Tribunal" that reigns there.
Reports have surfaced about chaos in Ald'Ruhn, and strange behavior of animals
throughout western Vvardenfell, attributed to something the people call
"Geth," which may be Goranthir.
Kethiah is at Castle Daruhn with Loranna, Shaka, Anya, Nalion, Reichi, and the
other champions. The ex-assassin, co-proprietor of the Nymph and Noggin,
Loranna's excise and export officer and (secretly) her Spymaster, has gathered
some information, and --[5]

offer stands if you're still interested Anya. But we probably shouldn't
be relying on illusions overmuch anyway ..."
"Well then, I think that covers everything," she continues, getting
up. "We've got a lot of work to do, and fast."
[8]
"Exactly, time isn't on our side," Kethiah nodded, walking towards
the door. "I'll see if I can't find any more information at the Nymph and
Noggin ... Swing by before you leave so I can tell you what I've learned."[9]
Summary: Shaka, an Argonian battlemage, has volunteered to go with Anya and Reichi to search for Goranthir.[10]
Summary
Reichi Sari is with some of the others in Castle Daruhn's study, planning a
search and rescue mission for Goranthir. [11]
ooc: Isidor, male
nord, is sitting in Loranna's study, with the rest of the group.
"I'd like to be able to go; but I don't look or sound like a dunmer, and I
wouldn't want to mess up the mission. Well, there'll be other battles to
fight." Isidor said, with a smile. [12]

[16]
Nalion had not forgotten to make preparations for helping Dar'Tessir with his
assigned task.
After talking and eating with the Khajiit, he had briefly visited Dalavesa, the
headmistress of the school, and asked her to arrange that the book to be copied
should be delivered to him as soon as possible.
Thus, some hours later, a young Nord girl arrived at the Nymph and Noggin,
carrying a book wrapped in a piece of clean cloth. Upon entering, she looked
curiously at the gathered guests, obviously searching.
The girl was lucky, at this time, only one Khajiit was present.
She ran up to him, looked wide-eyedly into his face, then dropped a curtsey.
"Are you da'dessert?", she asked shyly.

Shortly after the confrence in the castle, Loranna arrives in the Nymph and
Noggin, her midnight blue robes swishing as she heads for one of the private
meeting rooms.
"I went through and found the potions you asked for in my stocks,"
she says, pulling vials out of her robes. "Plus a supply of my better
healing potions; Goranthir may need them when you find him. I've also told the
Mage Guild that you've got an expense account for scrolls and other items, so
you should be all set as far as supplies go."[22]

Is that the book?" [27]

"An account?" Anya said, trying not to smile, "I'll just, um...
requisition plenty of extra scrolls. You know, for the mission." [32]
Isidor walked back to the Nymph and Noggin, and sat down in a chair, letting out a deep sigh. He'd have to bring the wedding up again sometime. maybe before Anya, Reichi, and Shaka embarked on their mission. [33]

Shaka entered the room with a bundle of clothing under his arm. He had found a
former slave from Narsis, and Shaka's garb in Vvardenfell would be
authentically plain and worn.
"I got the Mages Guild to fix these slave bracers too, so that they gleam
as if they're working without actually sapping me," said Shaka. [38]

[42]
The little girl giggled. "Sounds the same to me."
She offered the book to Dar'Tessir. "Mistress Dalavesa said you make more
out of this one, yes? Do you write nicely?"
The girl seemed to slowly loose her shyness after hearing Dar'Tessir's
laughter.
"Mistress Dalavesa always makes us write very slowly. She says that makes
the writing prettier. I can write very pretty!" [43]

spoke and sounded very odd to him. [48]

Dar'Tessir could not help but laugh. He made sure to stop after a short time so

Loranna just raises her eyebrows. "Don't go too crazy now

potion, to warn you ahead of time."
She grins, then looks to see if Kethiah has heard anything new.[63]

"The Manor District in Ald'ruhn I understand, and it's been corroborated,
has been shattered," Kethiah said, her voice still and serious. "It
is as if some great force exploded out from within. Three of the false
Almalexia's guards were injured in the explosion, which apparently occured a
few days ago, and one was killed. Father Moonstone, the head of the church, was
there as well, and also injured. He walks with a limp now, but that only

me a piece of candy when I am back! Nice meeting you!"
She turned to the door, but then stopped and faced the Khajiit again.
"Mistress Dalavesa told me that you should ask her when you have
questions. She wants the books in a couple of days, she says."
Lysa waved at Dar'Tessir, giggled once more and then ran out of the tavern,
dodging the one or other grown-up that was in her way. [73]

Loranna looks both grim and slightly boggled. "Just what the heck happened

At first Dar'Tessir had been apprehensive, he didn't have much experience with
children and if he was going to work for a school he would have to learn to
deal with them. He hoped they were all as well behaved as Lysa, though he
doubted it.
Dar'Tessir opened the package, it was ABC's for Barbarians. He opened the book.
Pictures, He knew just copying the Alphabet was too easy. He sighed and got
started. [83]

"One other thing," Kethiah said, frowning a little. "I don't
know whether to tell you Ald Sotha is a place to be avoided or investigated,
but something is happening there ... Reports of activity have only
increased, but security is tight. It may have nothing to do with Goranthir, or
it may be the key to everything. I guess my only advice is that it might bear

"I wonder if this ties in with Nalion's premonitions," said Shaka.
"It's a crazy thought, but we've been assuming the false Tribunal are
human mages in disguise. What if Moonstone's people are playing with daedra
instead?"
"Since Ald Sotha is close to Vivec City, we could try a recon of it before
travelling to Ald'ruhn. What does everyone think?"[93]

but this is a rescue mission first. Goranthir may have information on what's

Don't get yourself into deep, yeah?" [112]
"It would probably be best if I left my armor behind, it's way too distinctive," Reichi said. "I'll get some netch for the mission, it's cheap and works well for Ashlands, not to mention very common and plain. Everything else I have of note is hideable." [113]

to seek information from the royal spies in western Vvardenfell: the clothier
and knight in Caldera, the maid at the former Hlaalu fortress and the
weaponsmith at the Fighter’s Guild in Balmora, and the bartender in the Halfway

Loranna looks non-plussed by Shaka's statement. " ... That wasn't quite
the effect I was aiming for ..." she mutters, as much to herself as to the
rest of them.
Harumphing, she waves to the three of them as they head out, muttering dourly

"Yeah, I'll get my stuff too," Reichi said and hurried off. He got a
set of netch leather from a store in town and hurried to his room in Castle
Daruhn, where Reichi dropped off his shapeshifting armor and put on the Netch,
leaving the helmet off for the moment. Reichi hurried down to the Mages' guild.
This ought to be fun.. Reichi thought to himself. [153]
Shaka waited outside the Mages Guild for the others, practicing keeping his head slightly down and not making eye contact. He looked like a middle-aged slave; better fed than some, so perhaps he could pass for a house slave. [154]

[158] QUOTE(syronj @ Dec 9 2005, 12:07 AM)
[159] Shaka waited outside the Mages Guild for the others, practicing keeping his head slightly down and not making eye contact. He looked like a middle-aged slave; better fed than some, so perhaps he could pass for a house slave.
[161]
Zadion, the tall, thin Magister of the Mages Guild, stepped out and greeted
Shaka. "As you know, the Guild must remain neutral in all these matters,
but on a personal level, I wish you luck."

[166]
Anya gave Zadion a small bow, "We'll need no small amount of luck. Thank
you."
Anya pulled her hood up, covering her hair and eyes, as well as casting a
shadow over her distinct, cherry tattoo on her cheeck. Sometimes I wonder
why I ever got that. [167]
Reeds was busy. Between his quartermaster work and preparing the store for opening day, he had not gotten very much sleep. However, he did find time to sit down and write out five letters, adressed to five different people, and saying the same thing. Within an hour of his finishing, there was a letter waiting for Slashes-With-Claws, Dar'Tessir, Serath, Loranna, and Kethiah and Isidor. [168]
Slashes-With-Claws was finishing up his duties, he found a letter on his desk with the other paper work. He read it, an invitation to the opening of Reeds' book store Leaves of Letters. He had been wanting to get the next volumes in the Mixed Unit Tactics series, and find another action packed work of fiction. He set out for the store. [169]
It was approaching the middle of the afternoon. Reeds headed to Leaves of Letters from his temporary home in the Nymph and opened the store for it's first evening of buisness. [170]
Slashes entered the store. "Greetings my friend. A nice store you have. How are the quartermaster duties going?" [171]

"Bust, very busy. Getting a hundred recruits supplied and housed is no

enjoy the festivities, or do you actually want to buy soemthing?"[176]

[185]
"Mixed unit tactics I should have guessed on. Do you know what edition you
have of the others?" Reeds asked, climbing a ladder propped on one of the
ceiling high shelves, "If it's a newer version, I've got five and six
right here, but if it's an older set, I would encourage you to buy the updated
version as a set, bit cheaper. As for the fiction," He continued, pushing
off on the shelf and sending the ladder flying across the room, "Are you

"Sounds up to date, proably edition 6 or 7. Not much of a differnce in

slid the ladder back and retreived the two books, "As for plays, I can
recommend A Hypothetical Treachery, good bit of theater in that. Then of

"Argonia..." said Reeds, thinking, "Not much literature comes
out of Argonia to tell you the truth, our marshbretheren aren't too fond of
letting others see their work. I might have something around here in the rare
books." He walked over to a glass display case with a large number of books

pointed to a large tome in a yellowed binding. Opening the case, he continued,

[383]
The sound grew louder and faster. As the Silt Strider came up over the hill,
they could see that it was running, charging northward. There were
passengers on it, but they were being tossed off.
The creature issued forth a high-pitch scream, the likes of which no one had
ever heard come from such a docile, domesticated creature.
It ran towards Reichi, Shaka, and Anya, crushing rocks and vegetation in its
path, while its few passengers held on, and screamed.

"I will," Kethiah nodded her head, smiling again, though not
comfortably. "I didn't mean to spoil Reeds's party ... I might have a half
a glass of wine. The healer said that it would be good for the baby to take a
little bit from time to time."[394]
Shaka cursed mentally.
The three travellers couldn't stand by while people died, but they risked
blowing their cover. . . .
"Reichi, Anya - - When they ask how we did this, the spell came from you,
all right?"
Shaka moved behind the other two and called up the spell Lover's Kiss, forming
the green ball-lightning in his hands. He hurled it at the runaway siltstrider,
stopping it in its tracks. Momentum hurled a few more unfortunate passengers
over the gunwales.
The three ran to the siltstrider to get the remaining passengers off before the
spell wore off. They'd have to heal them after, assuming they could figure out
what was wrong with the creature.[395]

The ground was littered with broken bodies, some beyond healing, some moaning,
their limbs broken. Among them were several of Almalexia's Hands. And Hlaluu
Llethan Barreth, the King's cousin, though he had not seen the heroes of Ald
Raathim yet. Blood was running down his face from a wound to his head, and one
of the knights was casting a heal spell on him.

Good thing Reichi is wearing a helmet and Anya a hood, he thought grimly.
Llethan Barreth probably can't tell one Argonian from another, anyway; but now

Shaka's eyes met those of Reichi and Anya. Barenziah's contacts would be very
interested in hearing the King's cousin was travelling in enemy-held lands. And
consorting with the new Hands of Almalexia . . . .
He felt sick inside. Could the mark Goranthir bore from Mannimarco have led to
this? Was Goranthir dead after all, not just in prison? All they could do was
continue their journey to Ald'ruhn and keep piecing the mystery together. [466]
Ald Raathim, a
hilltop
He sat there motionless. He could feel the white stone beneath him and the Mid
Year sun shone warmly onto his back, making him feel almost every single
shining ray. He could smell the scent of summer, wild flowers, green grass, the
faint notion of the fragrance of the mangroves mixed with a salty odour from
the sea. He breathed consciously, controlling every motion.
His hands rested on his thighs, palms skywards. The mages' eyes were closed,
his gaze was directed inward, not outward. He let himself fall gently, fall
back, in time, in memory...
...and it suddenly grew dark.
Cold breath.
Darkness.
The pleasant smell was gone.
Instead, there was a chill, a chill of fear.
A cold hand.
Grabbing for his heart.
His body, controlled just a minute ago began to shake.
The hand came closer.
"Not yet, I do not have an answer yet."
There it was, the feeling he had in the tavern. That cold vision of darkness,
of wrongness.
The feeling began to engulf him, the cold hand seemed to be just inches away
from his heart.
The stone beneath him seemed to cry out. Almost as if the earth...
Just as the threatening hand made the final move to take him, he forced himself
to back away, clinging to the memories of sunshine again, climbing up the
abyss.
With a loud shout of pain and a gasp, Nalion opened his eyes, drinking the
sunlight, letting the summer air in his hands as if to wash out the cold
feelings inside.
Breathing heavily, he bowed forward, slowly regaining awareness of his
surroundings. The mage knew now where to look for answers, and the place he
needed to go was not far.
Granting himself a minute to gather his strength, he rested a moment before
slipping a plain white shirt over his bare chest. He felt tired, but moved down
the hills and into the forest.
It took him some time, but he had finally reached his destination, a clearing
with a grove of trees. Eight of them were growing over the stump of a formerly
large, but now dead tree. Nalion stepped carefully onto the clearing,
espectfully taking in the scenery.
"A son has come to humbly seek the help and advice of the mother.",
he said, then stood silently, waiting for an answer. [467]
"Lovely..." Reichi said sarcastically. He noticed that the King's Cousin had vanished. "...I hate teleportation spells...." Reichi grumbled under his breath. "We should continue on to Pelagiad," Reichi said, turning to Anya. [468]

[477]
It was early evening when they arrived in Pelagiad. The sight of an Argonian
drew narrowed eyes, despite the slave bracers and apparent dunmer masters.
The siltstrider's carcass lay inside the town limits, as dunmer stood around
and argued about what had happened. They had had to put the creature down; not
in living memory had a siltstrider gone bad.
When passersby weren't watching, Shaka murmured to Reichi and Anya: "Since
our contact's in the tavern, we might as well stay overnight; unless you want
to camp out. Up to you."
Except for the chaos caused by the runaway siltstrider, Pelagiad was little
changed from the days of Shaka's memories, though empty now of outlanders. When
the three entered the Halfway Tavern, Shaka was hit by nostalgia.
By the Nine, he thought. It's still here. The place I first saw Ahnassi . . . .
More than twenty years ago now? How is it possible.
It was good that he had to keep his head down in the tavern; the bittersweet
memories were stronger than he had expected. [478]
Reichi moved througfh the milling crowd in the Halfway tavern, up to the Bartender. "Hey, I got a problem, see, I do not know whether I am more hungry or thirsty, for I am equal parts both," he said, slipping the code phrase in subtlely. "Thought you could help." [479]

[523]
Shaka sat in the small room for a while before calling it a night. It had been
disturbing to see a berserk siltstrider. The world turned upside down. . . .
We'll have to make sure to check in with the other contacts, he thought.
Balmora, Caldera . . . the former Hlaalu fortress on the Odai Plateau too, that
was a place he'd never been.[524]
That Night ...
Nights on VVardenfell were typically not chilly, especially not in the middle
of Mid Year; nonetheless, this night the air was sharp with an unseasonable
cold. Combined with the echos of frenzied, animal cries in the distance, it was
enough to cause even the most tired to sleep fitfully - and those who had
trouble sleeping were stuck in a waking night terror that promised only to be
somewhat allievated with the coming of the dawn.
As the night wore on, the howls and screeches in the distance gradually
increased; the militia watch in Peligaid looked to one another with grim,
frightened eyes; after the Silt Strider episode earlier, no one wanted to face
one of the Geht-maddened beasts of Vvardenfell.
Then, sometime deep in the night, one of the watch commented "B'Vehk, is
it me or has the night become ... quiet?" And he was right, for the
loudest howling that had rung in the air was no longer present, nor did it
resume at all during the rest of the evening.
When the morning came, people would notice that, near the caves that stood
outside the former Imperial town, lay the bodies of several kagouti, alit, and
nix hounds. Wounds which did not readily coincide with the claw or teeth marks
of any known beasts adorned the bodies of the dead animals - from the looks of
it, swift kills one and all.
It was remarked though, that given the severity of the damage inflicted on the
maddened animals, there was remarkably little blood. And the militia couldn't
recall hearing the sounds of a struggle, even though kagouti, alits, and nix
hounds were known for their aggresive tendencies even when not frenzied ...[525]

[552] QUOTE(Solin @ Dec 10 2005, 07:01 PM)
[553] Teras considered a
moment and then took the offered seat.
"My history, Warmaster?" he asked. "I am not long in the
service of the Temple but, I've earned the respect of my peers."
The Dunmeri priest idly traced the scar that ran over left eye.
"A year and a half ago I lived in Gnisis. Before I was gifted with
these," the Dunmer drew three fingers across the old wounds mimicing the
claws that had raked them on his face originally. "I was a farmer,

Kratos studied the scars, letting his mind drift to his own for a moment. He
brought his gaze to Teras'. "Then you know of Loranna. She is a dear
friend of mine. I hope you don't hold any past discrepancies toward her; you do
know of what she has done for you, do you not?" He stared at him; waiting
for an answer, teetering between trusting him or not for a second.[556]

Teras' crimson eyes narrowed a bit as he studied Kratos a moment.
"As a I mentioned before, I'm not a warrior," he said. "My skill

Teras pondered the information a moment. He was puzzled by the Warmaster.
"The Champions are likely in some service of the Duchess of Daruhn or the

Sotha, what does an enemy always do when it has gathered its strength? It

"Indeed, Teras. But the question is where. The most logical guess would be
Vivec. They've been wanting to capture Vivec completely since the war started,
but they could just as well be gathering power to attack our base at Telasero
or even come to finish us here at Molag Mar. We must take our actions into

[613] When the morning came,
people would notice that, near the caves that stood outside the former Imperial
town, lay the bodies of several kagouti, alit, and nix hounds.
Wounds which did not readily coincide with the claw or teeth marks of any known
beasts adorned the bodies of the dead animals - from the looks of it, swift kills
one and all.
It was remarked though, that given the severity of the damage inflicted on the
maddened animals, there was remarkably little blood. And the militia
couldn't recall hearing the sounds of a struggle, even though kagouti, alits,
and nix hounds were known for their aggresive tendencies even when not frenzied
...
[615]
Shaka rose and continued the charade of dutiful servant to a travelling Dunmer
couple. A rough breakfast in the tavern brought the news of the unexplained
animal deaths.
The mysteries just keep coming, he thought as they hit the road for Balmora.
They had decided to check in with the former Hlaalu fortress on the plateau
high above the Odai before continuing to Balmora itself.
Shaka didn't look for Ahnassi's old house as they left the town. He didn't
really want to know what later owners had done with the place, assuming it even
still stood.
She must have survived the Blue Dawn and Red Mountain's destruction, he
thought; trying to convince himself perhaps. If anyone could land on her feet,
it would be her. Shaka could picture what had happened; Ahnassi had probably
gone to Vivec City to get her gladiator friend Seynedie out, or perhaps her
friend had rescued her.
No berserk animals were encountered as they hiked northwest. Shaka could have
sworn he saw scribs a time or two that day, watching them as they passed; an
unnerving sight. In previous years in Vvardenfell, Shaka had been glad to run
across an occasional scrib as it thumped the ground with its tail section,
possibly listening for echoes of caverns below. The scribs then had been a
welcome sign of life in otherwise barren ashlands.
They crossed one of the bridges over the Odai River and slowly climbed to the
plateau. As they approached the top, they might have seen the small port of Hla
Oad to the west, were it not for the mists in the distance.
They decided to camp for the night outside the former Rethan Manor. While they
were sitting around the fire, Shaka felt an impulse to talk to Reichi.
"Reichi, we've fought in the same cause for a year, if you don't count the
six months I wasted trying to readjust to Argonia. But we haven't talked
much."
Shaka stirred the fire with a stick for a moment.
"I know you're over a century old, 120 or so. And you were a Morag Tong
assassin for a very long time; and you've served with Loranna since almost the
beginning."
"But did you ever have a wife and family, like Dragon did? Who was in your
life, if you don't mind my bluntness?" [616]

Reichi shrugged. "I never did have a wife and family, really," he
replied. "The only girls in my life like that were...er. Well, lets say I
aint never had a girlfreind or lover, and leave it at that."

"Fair enough," said Shaka. Maybe Reichi was a little like Kethiah, he
thought; she hadn't settled down while an assassin either, until she had met
Isidor and retired. Had been forcibly retired, he reminded himself.

[630]
Anya was laying back, staring at the night sky. It was often she thought about
her past intentionally, it had a habit of haunting her more than she liked, but
right now she was thinking of a night like this.
Anya sat next to a fire, with Vondicus. She was repairing her weapons,
sharpening out the nicks. They were forced to hide, running from... something,
she didn't remember what it was. Just that a group of people were looking for
them.
More and more each year, Anya made a habit of running off, more than Vondicus
liked, doing odd jobs and eventually earning herself a name and living as a
mercenary. But she always came back, and Vondicus made no move to show she
wasn't accepted. Perhaps she took him for granted, but he was alwasy there.
Vondicus knew her well, too. Some nights, he would ask familar questions, and
Anya would do her best to dodge the answers. On this particular night,
"They're still dead, as you know. There's no need continue this."
"I know."
"Then why not stop this need to make everything personal vendettas? Why do
you try to break yourself, go too far?"
"Why do you always ask? And what's for dinner?"
"I'll ask until you answer. And scrib jerky."
Anya tapped her foot on the ground, mostly ignoring Shaka and Reichi. Recent
events caused her to wonder what she was doing. His question echoed through her
mind, cause her to whisper to no one but herself, "Because I don't want to
feel so helpless ever again." [631]

[635]
Shaka glanced over at the golden-haired Bosmer. She had been quiet ever since
the casualties from the runaway siltstrider.
He would have held her that night, but the three travellers had to try to stay
in character while in Vvardenfell. They retired to their separate bedrolls.
Shaka looked at the stars for a while before closing his eyes. Pelagiad had
been a disappointment. Once, Legion veterans had mustered out and built homes
there, families, businesses. A nice little town. But the n'wah had been driven
out, and Vvardenfell had been virtually depopulated by the Blue Dawn and the
mountain's eruption in any event.
It's only going to get worse, the farther north we travel, he thought. The
rejectionist Dunmer are probably already thinking of changing the names of
towns and cities away from any hint of the outlander. That's if the towns even
exist any more.
What was once a frontier of sorts, Ald Raathim and the rest of Daruhn district,
is more developed now, he realized. And Vvardenfell is again a frontier. [636]
... [637]
Ald Raathim
Astien had found himself lost in the big city of Ald Raathim a few times, but
now he had a good sense of direction. Although he didn't know the city
completely, he did know where the most important shops and other buildings were
located.
He had hoped that his joining in on the raid in Narsis would earn him merit
with the citizens and maybe make himself some more friends. There was nothing
more that he liked than helping people, well, beside the indulgences of the
Temple of Dibella.
There were not many times when you didn't see him smiling, his pearly whites
mixing well with his blue eyes and blonde hair. He was a very ecstatic young
man.
He had wanted to join up with the Mage's Guild, he figured he would hold that
off for awhile, looking into it every now and then. The magickal arts were his
field of study, it wouldn't hurt to expand them to even higher levels than he
already knew.
Astien stared up at the high Castle of Daruhn, smiling at it's intimidating
size. He approached a Dunmer guard on duty outside of the gates: "Greetings,
Sir Dark Elf. Might I journey inside and meet Her Grace?" He asked, still
smiling. [638]

The guards of Ald Raathim were a reasonably laid back bunch, for the most part.
Jazbet's influence was still present in those of the old guard who were still
around, and in a city as multi-racial as Daruhn, with a leader like Dres
Loranna Pyrel, guards learn that a more friendly approach tends to work - at
least when not dealing with cases of assault and violent disturbing of the
peace.
Still, Astien is met with a frown, as the Dunmer guard says "That would

being among them." He looks Astien over while his gravely voice echoes in

The arena master, a large Nord clad in fur-lined leather clothes was sitting at
a massive wooden table. Parchments with various writings as well as lists of
names were spread over its surface. The wall at his back featured a chart of
the scheduled arena events: fights, races and other competitions. Small wooden
signs with the names of participants were pinned at the wall as well.
Between the impression of ordered schedules, papers and lists, the large Nord
looked some kind of strange, this notion even was amplified by the nordic
claymore and the two heavy steel gauntlets hanging on the left hand wall.
The arena master looked up.
"I am Hrulgar Steel-Fist. So you do wish to fight?"
The Nord studied the Imperial from head to toe, and then for good measure from

"Looks like you are already eager, and you may even be suitable,

good impression with her, not be on her bad side.
[673]
Within the castle, Loranna sighs, rubbing her head. Earlier, she had felt a
need to be alone, so she had buried herself in her work. There was a lot to do
concerning the campaign in the south, after all; Rasar's people and her father
were both helping slaves escape where they could, the plans she and Helseth had
worked out still needed organization, the newly-emancipated and other new
recruits needed to be trained ...
And, of course, there were concerns at home as well. The new Imperial forts
going up, merchants complaining about taxes, reviewing trade agreements Kethiah
had forwarded to her ... keeping up with news from Mournhold and abroad,
preparing for this year's Early Harvest Festival (had it already been a year
since her first Early Harvest? The servants had been busily preparing and
Razbiah and Thianas had been working on their preparations since last week ...)
Then there was finding a good gift for Kethiah and Isidor, preperations for the
baby - she needed to sit down and talk with Slyvos soon about some issues, well
ahead of time ...
By the time she was informed that a certain Astien was waiting to meet her, she
had gone from wanting solitude to wanting some fresh air; the castle was making
her feel cooped up. Her potions would keep her legs from feeling cramped anyway
and she had her staff to lean on after all.
Thus it was that, some time later, Loranna and two guards enter the Nymph and
Noggin, looking for a blond-haired Breton with a stunning smile. And so Astien
is greeted by a lovely ashen-skinned, blond, tearstreaked woman in a midnight
blue robe, leaning on an ebony staff, saying "Greetings; I hear you wish
to speak to me."[674]
[675] QUOTE(ROLF_THE_UBER @ Dec 11 2005, 07:38 PM)
[676] Ki'airre was satisfied with the conditions and signed. "I look forward to winning this fight."
[678]
"We'll see. Now go, or do you want to fight here. I got work to do.",
Hrulgar answered and made a dismissive gesture.
...
An hour later, the fight was to begin. The arena was filled with the usual
guests, hoping for a distraction from their every-day life and a fascinating
fight.
On one side of the arena, a wooden gate opened admitting a tall, slender
figure, clad in a black hooded cloak. With a smooth motion, the figure dropped
the cloak, revealing a Dunmer in traditional bonemold armor, marked with red
letters. The crowd cheered.
With another smooth motion, Andalen Darethi drew his sword, an ornate silver
lined blade. The fiery-red eyes looked calm, but with anticipation. Andalen's
pauldrons could be seen moving as he eased his shoulders, then he took combat
stance, at ease, yet ready to strike quickly. The fingers of his left hand
twitched in anticipation as he waited for his opponent. [679]

Astien stood and bowed. "Your Grace. I hope this day finds you well, I
didn't mean to take you away from your duties as the Duchess of Ald Raathim. I
understand completely if you didn't want to meet such a lowly Breton as
myself." He was trying his best to be modest to royalty.
"It's just that I didn't properly get a chance to meet you. A simple hello
and greetings was issued from each other if my memory serves. I hope that I am
not intruding into your busy life. My name is Astien Dalomax, I am a healer and

"I remember; we were all a bit pre-occupied that day if memory
serves," Loranna says, resisting an urge to tell Astien to just stand up
while he was talking. She'd been growing more used to people treating her with
deference, but she prefered to look people in the face when they were talking
with her.
"I don't believe I got a chance to thank you properly for your
contribution to the Narsis raid," she continues, smiling. "It was very
brave of you, going into a dangerous situation like that. I am glad to see you
came through it safely, and that you were there to help heal my companions and
the slaves they freed." She sits down, motioning for Astien to do
likewise, and orders a glass of red wine from a barmaid. "So, I don't

[721] Ki'airre walked into the arena circle in a blood red robe. He removed the robe revealing a battle worn gold suit of armor. He twirled his scimitars and awaited his challenger's first strike.
[723]
The Dunmer grinned. "Outlander..."
With a smooth motion, he brought up his sword and closed in towards Ki'airre,
slowly, watching the movements of the Imperial to determine his next actions,
maybe the wink of an eye indicating where he would strike next, the move of a
finger, the stance in which he held his weapons...
Suddenly, with a flash of his left hand, a ball of purple light appeared in
front of him and was hurled towards Ki'airre. Somehow though, the spell seemed
to be aimed too low. [724]
The morning air of the
Odai Plateau was slightly cooler than their hike yesterday had been. The three
broke camp and walked into the former Rethan Manor compound, which resembled a
smaller Balmora in its stone Hlaalu architecture.
Shaka found himself in a courtyard with shade trees and a well. The manor must
have been beautiful once, and the half-ruined buildings had kept a shadow of
that. A Redoran family now lived in the compound.
Shaka kept quiet while waiting for Reichi to talk to the owners. Their contact
was said to be a maidservant. . . .
While waiting for Reichi and Anya to talk to the current owners, Shaka walked
outside the former fortress to see if Balmora was visible.
The Odai River was a silver thread leading to northwest, where the battlemage
could just make out the city outskirts. There was a siltstrider station near
there, if he remembered correctly.
He had heard from the others that Balmora had been taken over by a vampire clan
before Loranna's company of adventurers had stopped them. Shaka walked back to
the courtyard to wait for word from his friends.[725]

[734]
Actually, the spell was aimed low on purpose, as Ki'airre would see. When the
purple projectile touched the sandy fround of the arena, it's effect began to
spread, threatening to burden everything in its radius.
Andalen charged, his silver sword held equally low, gleaming in the sunlight,
and poised to slash at the Imperial once close enough.[735]

"If you have trouble getting your equipment shipped over, let me
know," Loranna says. "You'll need a place to work; I think we can
talk to Zadion about letting you work in the Guildhall if nothing else. It'll
give you more access to the Guild as a side benefit."
Now aren't you glad you decided to get out of the castle, she says to herself
with a grin. Here's a potential person to handle the basic potions.[834]

Nalion furrowed his brow and closed his eyes, trying to remember, then he
opened it again. Loranna's history was, as anyone else's, written down in the
Mythopoeic Tome which he had gaines and possessed for a time until it traveled
with the Eight through the spheres...
Now, it was his time to stretch out his hand and lay it on Loranna's shoulder.

Loranna smiles, and embraces Nalion briefly. "That's okay; no one said you
had to offer anything more," she says.
"I'm going to be a mother soon enough anyway - my second child, in my

"I will.", Nalion answered and drained his cup of wine. "I will
be back soon, hopefully with more insight than I have now. Believe me, this
uncertainty is troubling me as well."
With that, Nalion left the tavern, heading out of the tavern and into Ald
Raathim. [903]

Summary
Faryon has returned from his week long vacation on the Tear Coast, to terrible
news about the Narsis raid. He has also heard somthing about an evil fiend
terrorizing the countryside. What is Faryon to do about this evil fiend?
Nothing! Cause he is evil! His garrison commander is investigating the rumours
none the less, whilst Faryon prepares for revenge for the Narsis raid. What s
this plan of revenge? why, its so evil, Faryon has not even told me! Meany :|
Maranda has just returned for whatever she was doing. She knows not of evil
fiends that terrorize the countryside, for she was picking elderberries in
Elswyer [904]
And so, Maranda wandered around the town, still worring about the nasty letter from Meridia she recieved about a week ago, but that was in the back of her mind. Fear, aprehention, were in the air. Maranda, who had been absent for over a week, knew not what to make of this, so headed straight to where one finds out what the source of fear and aprehention are, the Nymph and Noggin. She opened the door, and looked about the room, spotting Loranna sitting over there. She approched, and said quietly, can I talk for a moment? [905]

Loranna smiles, looking slightly surprised. "Maranda; I heard you left the

"Of course dear; what do you want to talk about?" she asks, finding a

'Just elderberry picking,' Maranda said plainly, 'but in the air, I get a feel
of fear and aprehention... what, might I ask, has happened over the past few
days to cause this sence of fear?' she sat and waved for a fruit drink to be
served, 'Did that Raid on Narsis go bad or somthing?' [915]

Loranna frowns. "No; the raid on Narsis went well," she says.
"We freed almost four hundred slaves, a hundred more than we
anticipated."
"Nalion had sensed something evil approaching though; he's still
investigating what it is," Loranna continues. "No one else seemed to
have noticed though ..."
She frowns, remembering a strange chill she had felt the other day. Perhaps
that had been her picking up on whatever Nalion sensed? "Perhaps it's
related to that; I don't know."[920]

'perhaps...' she stared blankly at the wall, 'hey, do you know if Daedric
Princes write letters to warn people they are going to be killed?' Maranda
asked curiously as her fruit juice was brought to her. A taste, and a screwed
up face told those that it was definatly not a juice she liked. She pushed it

Loranna stares at Maranda blankly. "To my knowledge, not unless they had a
really pressing reason to see said person live, or if it amused them at the
time," she says, trying not to hear Tris's voice in her mind repeating
several choice comments about her well-endowed friend.

Loranna's Mirror had trusted people monitoring it around the clock, as far as

[960]
"So do I ..." Loranna mutters to Maranda's retreating backside.
"Good luck, dear ..."
Loranna takes a moment to ponder Maranda's situation; it seemed like the Daedra
never truly leave you alone once they get involved in your life. Having been
the pawn of a Prince before, Loranna knew how Maranda felt.
Evil hanging in the air, Goranthir missing, the war still going on, now
Maranda's plight ... suddenly, Loranna wanted nothing more than to head back to
her room in the castle and lie down. Fatigue potions be damned, she needed to
rest her brain.
With a wave of her hands, she was back in the castle, sitting on her bed,
trying to relax ...
... and dozing off, and finding herself in a familiar sort of dream, talking to
Maranda one moment about Daedra Princes and sleighs, and having to crane her
neck upward to see Maranda's face, until it got to the point where she was
lookng straight up, and she realized she was just coming up to Maranda's ankle,
and the smile on Maranda's face was cruel and triumphant only it wasn't
Maranda's face anymore, it was the ginatess's ...
... and then the Maranda-Giantess's bare foot came down, crushing her - only,
it was even worse because it wasn't just her being crushed now it was her and
her child. And despite the pain, and horror, and the feeling of being trapped
in the moment between life and death, it was just as seductive as ever, except
this time she knew if she just let the ginatess's foot rest on her womb she'd
be spared some of the horrorpainjoyterror. But she didn't, she took it all on
herself, so her baby would be okay.
And because she did, she couldn't bring herself to scream.
