Hello,
and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and
socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
===
Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it. Also,
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as
possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.
To help you get up to speed, here is
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html. This summary doesn't cover
everything but it sums up some of the bigger events our campaign has covered.
Note: She will probably update and edit this summary as time goes on.
===
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are
encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for
some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is
not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there
for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely
to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously
not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!
===
IMPORTANT: WE HAVE
JUMPED SIX MONTHS INTO THE FUTURE; IT IS NOW MID YEAR IN THE RP (i.e., June)

provided by Shardie showing the current division of territory between the
forces loyal to the crown and the rebels in Morrowind.

Summary for Loranna: Loranna is in Ald Raathim, her thoughts turning to her
impending motherhood and to the rid on Narsis. [1]
Summary: Anya is nuetralizing any guard she can, to secure the area for the support to secure the slaves. This is during the raid in Narsis. [2]
Summary: Shaka is taking part in the Narsis slave raids, and is battling guards on the third plantation.[3]
When the guard Anya
had killed failed to respond when asked to report, several others come to
investigate. Anya didn't have time to hide.
"You? You're the one that raided that plantation?" One of the gaurds
asked. The other never took his eyes off her, "Don't be a fool, the others
must somewhere near."
Anya hesitated for a second, but quickly recovered. Sprinting towards them, she
cursed as the first gaurd to talk started to shout a warning. She quickly
weaved a spell, and disappeared. Using her favorite trick, she reappeared
behind the guard, quickly slashing his throat. The second gaurd had finished
shouting, bewildered as an arrows appeared in him from one of
Slashes-With-Claws snipers.
"I hope no one heard that shout." she muttered, running foward to
attack the other gaurds, "There shouldn't be too many left now." [4]

[8]
At the manor, a parrapton rider had already landed and alerted the family.
Shaka and the rest of the scouts finished the last of the guards, including the
few reinforcements, but found that the nobles at this plantation had escaped.
They'll be ready for us at the last plantation, he realized as he reported back
to Slashes-With-Claws. We still have to see this through. There could be fifty
to seventy-five slaves left to rescue.
The scout team rested for a few moments and healed themselves. They were
starting to show the fatigue of this long night, but had enough healing potions
and spells to soldier on.
The support team was getting the slaves on their feet in the predawn light.
It was amazing to see the slaves they had freed so far; over 200. The support
team had found natural leaders among them, to aid the others -- elders and
others who had the respect of the other slaves. These would help shepherd the
escapees.
The eyes of the scout team turned toward the fourth and final plantation. The
enemy would probably be alerted and dug in this time. But with luck, the
diversion at Tear would keep the city of Narsis from being able to reinforce
the plantation overwhelmingly . . . .

Anya walked up behind Shaka and touched him on the shoulder, "We have a
problem."
Moving in front of him, breathing lightly, she spoke up, "I was just at
the last planation. They more or less know we're coming, and are ready. They
have I think twice as many gaurds as they should, all on edge. They know what
happened to the other gaurds, and are nervous. Plus they have several archers
in place.
"It'll be more difficult than the last few. Especially since we need to
leave several people with the refugees we already freed. Oh, this'll prove to
be interesting, and hopefully fun." [14]

Shaka reached out his hand to Anya's face and rested it there lovingly. It felt
like the first time; was it almost a year ago?
"The nobles here were warned by a parrapton rider, and escaped. So the last
plantation has even more warning. . . . Yeah, interesting all right,
angel."
"And I'm not even sure any more how the hell we're going to get out of the
Narsis area now that they're alerted, let alone with all these new citizens of
Ald Raathim."
"If we have to cash it in, I can't think of better people to do it with.
But we're going on."[19]

Anya smiled, and grabbed Shaka's hand. "Come on, we need to get this done.
Delaying will only give them time to prepare more."
"I think we should leave a few people here, and start to find a way to
move the slaves out. We can take the rest and free the last slaves." [24]

Shaka nodded. He would recommend it to the commander, but Shaka already knew
that Slashes-With-Claws would be thinking that far ahead. "Yeah, most of
the support team can stay here with the ex-slaves for now, and start planning
some options for escape. Let's hit it."
Shaka and Anya gathered the rest of the fighters and started double-timing to
the last objective. They saved their chameleon or invisibility spells and
artifacts for when they'd need them. [29]

Tsei is healing the wounded.
Ty and Til are doing something. [30]
Gadave Dres sits in

advice he doesn't want.
Jei-Set has been chatting with the former Argonian slaves.
Slashes-With-Claws, after hearing the reports of the fourth plantation having
advanced warning, and listening to Shaka's suggestions, has decided that it
would be best for as many slaves as possable to remain at the third plantation
for their safety. He was against the idea of shoving a weapon in their hands. [31]

[35]
Shaka and the rest of the scouts reached the fourth plantation in early
morning. There would be little time for stealth; they decided to surround the
plantation and strike from all sides simultaneously, leaving the slave quarters
for after the battle.
There were two things the raiders had going for them: the defenders didn't
really know what they were up against, the heroes of Ald Raathim; and although
they outnumbered the scouting team, they didn't outnumber them overwhelmingly.
The diversion at Tear seemed to be working, drawing away the main body of the
Indoril and Redoran forces in the region.
The guards were mostly wearing bonemould armor, a few with steel. Shaka and
other attackers found themselves duelling with only a couple of battlemages
among the guards, as most of the guards were conventional forces.
The skirmishes wore on into the morning. The guards had the advantage of
knowing their backs were to the wall, and the attackers were pressed for time.[36]
Slashes-With-Claws charged a guard, knocking his weapon aside and then skewering him through the neck. As he turns towards another guard, the guard waves his hands, a ball of fire erups outward towards Slashes, thinking fast Slashes jumps to the side, just avoiding getting singed. Slashes made his own magicka gestures and chargeds the guard. The guard threw anotehr ball of fire, Slashes was too close to dodge, but he didn't even try. The ball struck Slashes in the chest, changed direction, and struck the caster. While the guard screamed Slashes rammed his spear through the guard's heart. [37]
OOC: Reeds is with the support team at the third plantation. [38]
Anya sprinted past the
gaurds behind their lines, footsteps light. She left throwing stars in two of
the guards necks. The gaurds fought with an intensity born of desperation, but
it simply wasn't enough. Their numbers were fast dwindling.
She jumped a gaurd from behind, and twisted his neck. Catching up with
Slashes-With-Claws, she consulted with him. "There are barely any gaurds
left here. But I'm concerned. I know we engineered a distraction, but we aren't
seeing the reinforcements we should here, especially with the fact we're taking
a large force of their slaves. I'm willing to bet some rothmet that we'll be
seeing a good chase after we're done here." [39]

Unfortunately there were others who saw the light too. Behind Reeds there was

Back on the plantation Slashes attention was suddenly grabbed by a shouted
command, "Don't anyone move! Drop your weapons now!" He looked
towards the source of the voice, a commander with a number of archers, all with
bows notched and ready. Several slaves screamed in fright. Slashes groweled,
but did not move, there was no way he could avoid that many arrows. [82]

Loranna rubs her eyes; her insides felt like they had turned into electric
shards of glass.
It wasn't just that Goranthir had been hurt - she knew, even if Kethiah did
not, that Goranthir had guardians watching over him, people she likewise knew
and cared about. That something this terrible could happen to Goranthir ... either
Tris and Allie were both distracted at the time, or even worse - they weren't.
Until she knew which it was, it fell to her to figure out a way to help
Goranthir, assuming he even could be helped by now.
"We need confirmation on what happened," she says to Kethiah.
"If Goranthir is still alive we can't leave him in enemy hands ..."
[111]
The first group of
boats landed, and Reeds charged off to the plantation.
Entering, he found pandemonium. Several werewolves had now entered the fray,
and since they didn't seem to be hurting any of ours...
Reeds moved forward, bashing a guard's helm in from behind, which gave a
pleasant ringing sound that Reeds decided he liked. by the end of the battle
Reeds was being called 'The Ringer' by his allies and 'that crazy guy with the
sabre' by his enemies. [112]

[135] The werewolves as a pack, led by one particularly large one, galloped past the heroes of Ald Raathim and into the forest by the ships. The sound of battle could be heard ... Evidently, more reinforcements had appeared and were being met.
[137]
Reichi had been intially shocked by the sudden appearance of the Werewolf pack,
but after a few moments he either concluded this was Rasar's bunch, or there
was another pack of Werewolves running amok in Morrowind. Either seemed a
acceptable explanation to Reichi. Mentally, however he cursed the presence of
the slaves, and those who didn't know his secret yet. His armor, though it
would adjust to his next form, was far too distinctive. Reichi really didn't
need two hundred plus freed slaves knowing of his lycanthropy.
Reichi grinned and rushed after the Werewolves, they obviously knew where the
best fighting was to be had. [138]

[140] Reichi grinned and rushed after the Werewolves, they obviously knew where the best fighting was to be had.
[142]
The scene in the tangled woods was pure chaos. Fangs and claws met Indoril
guard, and blood splashed into the branches. The darkness was lit by spells of
defense and offense, but the wolves knew the woods well, and seemed to vanish
into the shadows before they were targeted.
Several of the guards attempted to flee into the less forested river bank,
running headlong into Reichi.[143]
[144] QUOTE(syronj @ Dec 6 2005, 05:28 PM)
[145] Shaka was fighting for
his life, but had a moment to be stunned at the sight of a pack of werewolves.
By the Nine, he thought; could this be the werewolf mercenaries led by
Rasar? But wouldn't they be working on the side of the slavers?
. . . Apparently not. Someone on Helseth's side must
have made them a better offer.
[147]
Anya stayed back, making sure none of the slaves were left behind, as most were
swept up in the rush of freedom.
She had to admit, though, she marvelled at the werewolves ferocity. It might
even make Reichi blush. Anya's companions, combined with the werewolf pack,
tore through the reinforcements.
Seeing that there were nearly nearly finished, she fell back, letting the
werewolves finish. She went to make sure none of the slaves were left behind as
they were lead to the boats. [148]

[152]
Judging from the screams and sounds of combat in the woods, the werewolves were
succeeding in buying them time. Shaka intended to use it.
Along with others on the scout team, he urged the slaves to the riverbank and
helped speed the loading. Not going to leave anyone behind if we can help it,
he thought grimly.
[153]
They were filling the
boats almost to sinking, and there were still many more to go. Reeds knew that
they had to get them out to the ships as quickly as possible, and the boats
were too slow.
"Everybody who can swim out to those ships," said Reeds as he loaded
more slaves onto the boats, "I suggest you do it!" [154]

[156] Several of the guards attempted to flee into the less forested river bank, running headlong into Reichi.
[158]
Reichi rushed at the guards immediatly, growling under his breath. He slashed
the first guard rapidly with his dagger and shortsword, not giving them time to
recover from fleeing the Werewolves. In truth he didn't need the Werewolves to
even help him with this particular group. Their presence was enough to rattle
the guards badly enough. [159]

[163]
The screams and sound of combat in the woods died down, and a black werewolf
stepped out of the tangled vines, transforming into Rasar.
"Reichi," the young Dunmer with the serious eyes and the wolfish grin
said. "Haven't seen you in a couple months. How have you been?"
He turned to the woods and yelled out, "It's safe!"
A hundred slaves emerged along the river banks.
"From the Tagghil Plantation to the east," he said. "I don't
think there's enough room on your boats, but some of them want to go south to
Blackmarsh ... Do any of yours? We can escort them."

[168]
As Shaka ran to join the fighting near Reichi, he glanced back to see the
slaves' response. Many of the Argonian adults took to the water, with his
race's customary ease. The boats began to push off into the river, some slaves
swimming alongside and others diving under. The older slaves, the infirm, and
children were given priority in the boats. They would sort it out while on the
river, but it was more important to keep the refugees moving.
When Rasar emerged, Shaka slowed to a walk. [169]

[173]
"By the nine..." muttered Reeds, still loading people into boats.
Even though many of the slaves were now churning the river into froth on their
way to the ships, there would still be many more trips before the two teams
would get their turn. [174]
"Been good,
Rasar," Reichi replied, wiping some of the blood off his face. "I'm
not sure if any of ours want to go, but you can ask them. The Argonians at
least probably want to. These folk are really desperate, following a bunch of
Werewolves around." He grinned.
"Take as many as you can off our hands, we can hardly fit what we
got." [175]
Isidor nodded to Rasar, and said, "Yeah, we'll need more boats or something. We can't fit 'em all ..." [176]
"Rasar,"
said Shaka in greeting. "Not that I'm complaining, but how did your group
get involved today? Did Helseth hire you? At any rate, thanks for the save. . .

Rasar called out to the slaves in the boats. "These ships will take you
safely north, to Ald Raathim, or to one of the other royal forts where you will
be protected! If you want to go south, back to Black Marsh, follow me and my
wolves, but you best make up your mind quickly!"[182]

[185]
"We're being amply compensated," Rasar nodded, with a wink, as slaves
came off the ship to join the ones he and his pack freed. Some of those
likewise swam for the ships.
Even with Rasar and his pack taking a good portion of the freed slaves, the
ships would be packed.
[186]
Reeds, now fairly certain that the loading was well underway, jumpmed into the cool water and swam for one of the lesser packed vessels, which was still loaded well past capacity. [187]
The rest of the guards
had been killed or wounded. Shaka watched the last of the half-dozen boats push
off from shore; he would swim to them in a moment.
"Rasar, you probably don't want to hear it, but I think your father Jazbet
would be proud of you and your people today. It makes up a little for all the
times you were hired as slavecatchers."
"Good luck with getting them to Black Marsh, and thanks again," said
Shaka, shaking Rasar's hand. He dove into the water and swam out to the boats.

Rasar's face was expressionless during Shaka's compliment, and then he added.
"Good luck to you too. I expect there'll be some trouble up the
river."
The former slaves who had wanted to go south gathered together on the
riverbank. Rasar transformed into a werewolf, and together with his pack, led
them off into the woods, looking quite a bit like sheepdog herding a flock.
[198]
Ald Raathim
The guild guide at the Mages guild didn't really bother to look at the figure
that stepped off the platform. The figure was clad in robes, soaked with water,
which began to gather in a small pool around it's boots.
"You again?", the Altmer muttered. "Look, can't you just decide
where you want to stay? Vanishing, then coming back. Ald Raathim, Shornhelm.
Shornhelm, Ald Raathim... You don't even have trade goods. This time, you're
dripping wet..."
The figure spread his fingers in the imitation of a helpless gesture.
"Pretty bad weather in Shornhelm right now. But, you're actually earning
quite a bit for the guild by my 'restlessness'.", the man answered.
"So I guess I should be glad then?"
"Probably.", the man answered, pulling back the hood of his wet blue
robe, revealing damp brown hair. Matching brown eyes looked at the Altmer in
front of him. "Now, do you want me to chat with you and flood the
guildhall or...?"
The Altmer waved his hands.
"Have a good day.", he grumbled, not very convincingly.
With quick strides, Nalion stepped out of the Mages Guild and onto the streets
of Ald Raathim. [199]

Dar'Tessir exited the Nymph & Noggin to take a walk, he didn't have anything

does one get wet when it does not rain? Unless one is foolish enough to swim in
robes.
Then he recognized the man.

The mage turned towards the figure who just spoke his name. A flicker of brief
recognition crossed his face.
"Ah, I know you. Dar'Tessir, right?", the mage answered. Recognizing
the strange look from the Khajiit, he explained.
"It's raining in Shornhelm. I did not have the chance to dry on the trip.

be more to do than expected. I need two copies of the revised edition for 'ABC

Nalion grinned.

Narsis
Astien sat on the deck of one of the ships. He had made sure that none of the
slaves were wounded before he took a nice long break from his duties as one of
the group's healers.
There was half of a smile on his face as he thought about the werewolf pack
that had saved their hides that night; Those buggers sure know how to fight,
i'll give them that. He thought. Astien wasn't particularly warm to
werewolves or other supernatural creatures that roamed Nirn.
"Time to rest now." He muttered, pulling his hood over his head and
laying down on the packed ship's deck.
Ooc: Probably not going to make it onto the IRC

"Get some rest while you can, Iz." Shaka watched the river for a

"He was a slave hunter. I can't think of a life to excuse that." Anya
said, before walking off. [261]
Although it was too
late for Anya to hear, Shaka looked up. "Raised by his mother in exile,
then orphaned and turned into a werewolf? . . . My village upbringing was
uneventful, compared to that."
Damn it, he didn't want to anger the elf. Shaka had forgotten Anya's past as a
slave concubine when he had thought out loud.
As he brooded, Shaka could hear one of the elders talking to his people.
" ' And Fadomai said, "When Nirni is filled with her children, take
one of them and change them. Make the fastest, cleverest, most beautiful
people, and call them Khajiit.' "
Shaka sat on the deck to rest a moment. It was good to hear the ancient wisdom
passed along, even in slavery.
We're the Beast Races, he thought. The survivors; even as the orcs are survivors,
even as the humans survived slavery, and the dunmer kept on despite all that
has been thrown at them.
Shaka couldn't draw a conclusion from that just now. The boats sailed north. [262]
Commander Slashes-With-Claws had swam to the ships to allow room for those who could not. He was dripping wet and covered in dried blood. He went around checking on his men and the support team. He came upon Reeds. "You did well for a bookseller." He grinned. [263]

predatorial instincts. He grew tired and found a nice place on deck where he
could feel the moist spray and slept. [283]
Reeds grabbed another blanket from the pile, found a relatively dry spot underneath the deck stairs, and joined most of the rest of the ship in sleep. [284]
Slashes was awakend by
a shout, "Sail ho!"
He jumped up and called back to the lookout, "What is it?"
"Ships closing fast from the stearn! I can't make out their marking, but I

Slashes scurried up the ropes to the top of the mast with the agility and
athletics of his kind. He could see at least two ships, closing fast. the ships
were smaller than theirs, allowing them to get better speed. His keen predators
eyes could make out the Indoril flags. He scurried down and began shouting
orders. "Indoril ships! Get all non combatants below decks! Get any

or there may not be an again. I am a healer, so if you get injured, I can
help." They were in the last boat, the smaller enemy ships were
almost in range. Just a few more seconds.
Unfortunately the enemy had better bows and fired first.
"Incomming!" Slashes shouted and dived to the side, just
avoiding getting hit. "Return fire!" He drew his bow and
loosed an arrow.
[316]
Reeds lined up a shot and fired. The arrow flew across the water, severing a
rigging line and listing the ship to the left.
"An exellent shot sir!" commented a dark elf next to me.
"I was aiming for an archer," Reeds replied, firing another arrow. [317]
A glow appeared on the enemy ship. Several fireballs, thrown by mages, streaked towards Slashes' ship. He quickly cast resist fire. "Fire balls!" Remembering something he had discovered by accident some time ago he fired an arrow at the swarm of fire balls, hitting one it exploded in mid air. "Aim for the fire balls, loose arrows!" A series of arrows were fired towards the incomming fireballs. As Slashes watched he saws a quick streak and felt a sharp pain in his chest. He gasped and fell down on one knee. He coughed blood. Reeds had just missed a fireball by a spectacularly huge margainwhen he heard a
gasp and a thump from behind him. Turning, he saw Slashes lying on the deck, an
arrow peirced through his armor and into his chest.
"HEALER!" Reeds screamed over the ship. [323]
Slashes felt his chest, felt the arrow sticking in his lung. He gasped and wrenched it free. He let out a gurgling scream of pain, blood poured from the wound. His hands shook as he brough one to his chest, he was unable to concentrate on healing the wound. Slashes thought to himsef, he had to cencentrate, he could not die, he did not want to die. He tried again, a faint blue glow spread from his hand. He felt consiousness failing him, the wound was healing, but too slowly. [324]

[328]
Shaka heard the call and pushed his way over to the commander. "I've got
it," he said, kneeling on one leg and casting a blue glow over the wound.
"Damn it, maybe he shouldn't have taken the arrow out yet. . . . Okay,
he'll live."
Shaka rushed back to the rail and hurled a Greater Fireball at the pursuers. If
he could set a ship's rigging on fire, it would help them greatly . . . . [329]
Commander Slashes-With-Claws was still weak. He dragged himself a few feet to a railing and leaned against it. His breating was still eratic, but he was alive. He tried to call out to thank Shaka, but his voice failed him. [330]

"He knows already, now stop talking and hang on." Said Reeds. half
carrying, half dragging Slashes inert form across the deck, he carefully placed
him out of harms way. "Stay here until you can fight, okay? We don't need
our commander getting another hit like that." [335]
The two pursuers were
trying to take down the escaping ships' masts so that they could board them.
Shaka glanced over his shoulder and noted that three of their convoy were
getting some distance between them and their pursuers. The odds were even now,
two ships on two.
The ship's pilot shouted to those on deck: "Stand by to repel
boarders!" He was echoed by the other ship's pilot.
Shaka gripped the Spear of Bitter Mercy. Maybe it was better this way, taking
the fight to the enemy while at least three ships got away.

"Well just great," Said Reeds, pulling out his saber and dropping the
bow on deck, "Absolutely FANTASTIC." [346]
Fireballs and arrows
continued to streak across the water, the two pursuing ships sending a furious
volley of fire at the fleeing slave transports. Rigging lines and sails
smouldered and burned, arrows crashed against armor and shield spells, and
former slaves screamed in fear, trapped in overloaded vessels with death in the
air.
Three of the slave transports manage to pull away from the fight, having kept
their sails intact thanks to quick thinking fro mtheir sailors and mages. Two
of the ships, however, were not so fortunate - the two ships closest to the
pursuing Indoril warships, subjected to the greatest concentration of fire.
These two ships see the Indoril vessels looming ever closer, intent on
boarding; a volley of suppresive fire streaks across the river from the

Ald Raathim's heroes fought desperately against the marines while former slaves
fell back across the decks, some seeking the ships' holds while others,
trapped, went so far as to jump overboard.
Some grappling hooks had their lines cut, and planks pushed overboard, but the
Indoril forces were barely slowed.
Shaka whirled the Spear in an arc, then evoked a storm atronach, who waded into
the marines as if they were children.
Only have the charge for one more of those today, thought Shaka to himself. [362]

[390]
Tsei nodded and went to tend to the wounded.
Isidor, on the other hand, was pulling his axe out of an Indorils' head. He
kicked the body out of the way, and moved foward. [391]
As the time expired on
the atronach and it faded away, Shaka noted the golem had evened the odds a
little. The defenders were still locked in hand-to-hand combat with the
boarders, though.
It was too close quarters to try fire spells, which might splash back on the
users.
Shaka kicked a marine in the knee, breaking it, before cutting the Indoril's
throat with a slash of the Spear. His tail lashed out at the Indoril nearest
that marine and deflected his sword arm.[392]
Anya heard several
thumps behind her. Turning around, she saw Indoril troops trying to board the
vessel.
Smiling, she pulled out her daggers, "Now this is how one should
fight."
Leaping into the air, she dropped down in the middle of the group. Grabbing one
by the arm, she twisted and forced him in fornt of her. The Indoril took the
sword meant for her and fell. She quickly sliced the gaurd that was busy trying
to free his sword.
Slashing the rope that connected the two ships, she turned to face the rest of
the boarders. [393]
Commander Slashes-With-Claws weaved his spear about, striking one invader in the face, and then slashing the neck of another. He knocked a sword aside and then removed the hand that had held it. He threw a knife at one of the Indoril that was just climbing aboard, striking his elbow between the armor plates, he lost his hold and fell into the river. [394]
Shaka planted a
taloned foot in a marine's gut, driving him back before Shaka knocked him down
and out with the Spear's haft. He looked around and saw the tide of battle had
turned.
The marines refused to surrender. A few survivors were thrown overboard and
told to swim for shore. The pilots of the ex-slave ships broke out the
replacement sails and started rigging them so they could try to catch up with
the other three ships.
While the crew worked, Shaka sat on the deck, exhausted. The slaves who had
jumped overboard climbed back on, or were helped.[395]
Slashes called out a new order, "I need anyone who can cast fire! Throw what you can at the ships! We'll leave them smoking cinders." He was not skilled in destruction so watched as fireballs streaked towards the enemy vessels. [396]
One of the pursuing
ships got away, turning for Narsis. The second ship burned to the waterline.
Shaka watched it recede as they sailed for home.
He sat with an arm around Anya's shoulders. "Good fight, woodelf. Maybe
you have a knack for privateering. Just don't end up like Falco."[397]
"I'm gonna reek
of blood and gore for weeks," Reichi muttered. His armor was covered in
dark red splotches, and his skin in light, more recent red splatters, some of
it was even his own blood. He had sheathed his blades after wiping them off a
Inodril's corpse before tossing that into the river.
"Well. I don't know about anyone else...but damn I could use a
drink right now." [398]

"That'd be nice, Iz. We'll keep the wedding small for you and Kethiah,

The two ships were gradually catching up to the rest of the convoy, which seemed
to have slowed a little for them; though no one would be resting easy until
they were back in Daruhn. [414]

Loranna acknowledges Kallen with a quick smile, and heads to her office,
wondering if this conference concerned Goranthir.
In her office, she faces her mirror and touches the surface, calling out
"Your Majesty; I am here."[440]
The battered convoy of
Indoril-disguised ships sailed into Ald Raathim's harbor. The harbormasters had
been notified beforehand to expect the ex-slaves, so the ships weren't fired
upon as they approached the city.
Shaka and the others of Loranna's company watched as the ex-slaves filed off
the boats and were met by Ald Raathim's refugee services personnel, who had
seen much: those who had fled from the Blue Dawn, Red Mountain, and the civil

[493] "Nalion?" Shaka was up in an instant and gripped the Breton's shoulder. "What's wrong? Sit down for a minute . . . ."
[495]
Anya tilted her head at Nalion and frowned, sending one of the barmaids to get
him a drink better suited to helping him.
"Is there something going on? I doubt it's anything like age or work
catching up." [496]

"Nalion, do you sense a wrongness like when we had to go beyond the Spheres?"
Shaka had noted no one listening to the drama unfolding, other than the three

glance.[501]

"I... I don't know. There was, seemed to be, some darkness.", the
mage muttered, some pauses in his sentence, as if he was trying to gather up
his strength.
His face only slowly regained it's former color.
"It felt like a shadow, a threat. Like a cold claw at my heart. I don't
know what it is. I just know it's bad. Not like the spheres. Not at all. I
don't know."
The unknown part was what seemed to affect Nalion most. He had steadied himself
as well as possible, but did not take a seat.

"I will talk to Loranna.", Nalion replied. "I don't know the
meaning of this, and this is what unsettles me. With the spheres, we had word
from Allerleirauh, but now..."
The mage looked doubtful, and still, the grave concern was visible on his face.
At least, he seemed to feel good enough to stand. "Thank you, Anya, but
it'S no drink that I need now."
"I need to think. I'll let you know then."
The mage looked around him, as if to reassure himself that noone was watching
him. An odd move for someone in a crowded tavern. Taking his staff from the
wall where he left it, he exited the tavern. [525]

"Take care of yourself, Nalion." Shaka's eyes met Anya's. Her concern
mirrored his own.
"I hope it's nothing to do with Doll. . . . Somehow I don't think it is.
Nalion seems to have been affected by something larger, something that touches
upon us all."
He took a pull from the dark beer. Shaka decided to make a weak attempt at
gallantry.

Shaka finished the second of the two mugs. "Let's not waste time, then. I
have a back to scrub. And some meridians to discuss."
He walked outside with her and Recalled to the yurt, knowing that Anya had also
set a Mark near there.[540]
Commander Slashes-With-Claws sat with several different drinks infront of him, he wanted to really celebrate. He looked down at himself, he would have to get cleaned off later, he was covered in his own dried blood. He looked at Reeds, "How did you like your first battle my friend?" [541]

Slashes took a drink, "Fine now thank you. I looked closer at the cuirass,

fighting against them. It has resulted in a rather odd balance of units in the
army. We have more perople of the root and Khajiit than any other army in
Morrowind as far as I know." Slashes finished his drinks and stood up.
"I think I will go get cleaned up, and then take a nice long rest."
As he left the tavern a Dunmer voice called out, "Are you the one called

Slashes turned to look at the one who called him, "I am commander

Slashes was puzzled by all this, he did not know the Dunmer who threatened him.
"I can handle him Reeds" He drew his spear. "Who are you?"
They stood in the street, a crowd was gathering.
The dunmer answered, "I am Gadave Dres, son of Alren Dres. I think you
remember him." The dunmer attacked, Slashes knocked the blow aside, but
the dunmer ducked the backswing. Slashes thrust, but his spear was knocked
aside by an expert parry. He dodged and slashed, finally Gadave scored on
Slashes arm, breaking the pauldron and drawing a shallow cut on his arm.
Slashes realized he needed to use a better weapon, he had been out of practice
with the spear for too lond to fight such a skilled combatant.
"Reeds, hold this for me!" He tossed the spear towards Reeds, it
stayed nearly verticle the whole way, it should be easy to catch. Slashes drew
the dwarven claymore that was strapped to his back. [571]

Reeds caught the weapon and held it for Slashes, cheering him on. [576]
Slashes brought the

back, tearing into the metal cuirass, snapping the straps and sending it
clattering to the ground, the sword also cut deep into the wearer.
Gadave looked down at his own entrials, hanging out of his torn open abdomen,
he fell to his knees. Memories came back to Slashes mind, seeing Alren in the
same position. Gadave curse slashes with a failing voice.
Slashes could not let Gadave suffer a slow death, he was a soldier, not a
torturer. He brought the claymore around in a flat arc, Gadave's head fell to
the ground in a shower of blood. Slashes stood there for a moment.
A guard burst through the crowd, sword at the ready. "What is going on

"Kind of hard to end a sword battle without blood." Slashes lowered
his voice, "He was the son of my former master. I killed my master about
two years ago. This Dunmer wanted revenge." the crowd that had gathered
dispersed from the street.
Slashes looked at the guard, "I was attacked by that man sir."
Several other guards had arrived, the first had them start to question the
onlookers. "Who was he?"
"Gadave Dres, son of Alren Dres. He issued a writ on me several weeks ago,
it failed. I guess he dicided to take matters into his own hands." [587]

In her office, she faces her mirror and touches the surface, calling out
"Your Majesty; I am here."
[591]
The Queen Mother's face appeared in the mirror. She looked more worried than
Loranna had ever seen her, actually showing her ancient age. "Loranna, I
need your help. Your spies may have already told you, but if they haven't:
Goranthir has gone missing in Vvardenfell."
As Barenziah spoke, Kethiah entered the office and stood by, quietly.
"If I could, I would unleash all of Morrowind's armies to search for him,
but if I react too strongly, they may learn he is more than a spy, that he is
my grandson and a Prince of Firsthold," she said, her voice low. "He
has a far better chance of being found and rescued if I only send a few of my
best champions to quietly enter enemy territory to search. I beseech you, if
you have any champions to spare, I will be in your debt." [592]

Loranna nods. "I understand, Your Majesty," she says, keeping her own
voice low; seeing Barenziah looking so distraught was making Loranna feel
unsettled herself.
Goranthir was, after all, one of the Eight who had journeyed out to the
Spheres; in Loranna's mind, he was family, as much as was Allie and the others
she had come to love over the years.
"As soon as my companions are back from Narsis," she assures
Barenziah, "I intend to tell them of Goranthir's plight. He's one of us;
I'm sure his friends will go to his aid."
Whether her friends were capable of fighting whatever took Goranthir out of the
picture was a question she didn't consider prudent to contemplate right now.
Not while Goranthir's worried grandmother was begging for help.
"What have your sources learned of the situation in Vvardenfell, Your

are reports of very strange behavior from the wildlife in western Vvardenfell.
Cliffracers flying into villages, attacking the people far from their aeries

you just got back from Narsis and are probably weary, but an emergancy has come
up. Goranthir has gone missing, and is presumed in trouble in Vvardenfell; the
Queen Mother has asked our help in rescuing him."
"Thus far we know relatively little; we know he was trying to learn more
about the false Tribunal, we've reports that he learned of unsettling
developments near Ald Sotha, and that he was supposed to meet with Almalexia in
Ald'Ruhn ... and then, we lost contact with him. And the Indoril and Redoran
report a heretic among them was destroyed ..."[613]

[649] "You're going to have to use your skills for stealth as well," Kethiah agreed. "Goranthir got to Vvardenfell by traveling underwater using his cloak which allows him to do that, and hitching on the back of slaughterfish, dreugh, and other underwater creatures ... What you could do is use the Guild Guide to get to Vivec, and then sneak off from there. The Guild Guide is an agent of Barenziah's, and won't tell the Redoran and Indoril that you're there ... But this should be a fast mission. Sooner or later, despite all your skills, they will discover you."
[651]
"For this mission, I can help by providing some extra-strength
potions," Loranna says. "We can also provide some helpful scrolls,
like windwalker scrolls. I'll pay for any reasonable expensives for equipment
you think you'd need - you and whoever else is volunteering to go."[652]

you'll need and see what additional intelligence we can gather, then we'll make
our move. Anya, let me know what sort of potions you want and I'll go through

"Well, I've gotten fairly good at Alteration, which includes waterwalking.
And I have some really nice enchanted clothes I bought with my share of the
Emporer's reward to fortify my magic. With that, and some foritfy speed potions
from you, I can wuickly run the expanse of water. Though, having a few

Commander Slashes-With-Claws was cleaned up and in his propper uniform. He had
been listening to her grace, but was no spy so did not volunteer. When she
asked about Narsis he spoke up, "the raid wen well Your Grace. We rescured
over four hundred slaves. We are still sorting everything out. Losses were
minimal, only a few. I am also glad to report no civilian casualties." [672]
Shaka said,
"Would it be possible to alter our appearances the way Loranna once looked
like a different Nord, named 'Hilga' on our Gnaar Mok expedition? If we had CE
illusions to look like dunmer, we wouldn't have to sneak all the way to
Ald'ruhn. Just a thought."
"If it's not possible, maybe we could prepare a cover story -- a group of
mercenaries with a slave in tow; me."
[673]
Isidor had been sitting quietly, while Loranna, Anya, and Kethiah spoke. When Loranna asked how the raid went, however, he spoke. "It went as well as could be expected. We ran into someone you'll remember though ... Rasar was there, with his pack. Fighting on our side this time, though." [674]

"Illusions are always a possibility but they're not perfect," Loranna

[691]
"He looked good, from what I could tell. Shaka mentioned that Jazbet would
be proud of him, for helping to free the slaves. There was a few slip ups that
alerted guards, but otherwise it went smooth as ... something smooth."
Isidor said, with a smile. "I'd like to go to help out Goranthir, but I

[696]
"Mostly that Narsis was alerted by someone who escaped a plantation, and
that we had to conduct a fighting retreat out of the region," mused Shaka.
"Rasar seemed well. Not surprising that he became the Alpha of that pack
long ago and holds his position. Mentioning that his late father Jazbet would
have been proud of him helping slaves to escape was probably stupid of me. He
didn't seem pleased to be reminded of his origins. But as they say, better to
have him inside our tent than out." [697]
"Stalker would be
interested to hear; last time he tried to contact Rasar he ended up getting
forcibly rebuffed," Loranna muses. "I wouldn't mind talking to my
son-in-law again either ..."
"I'm pleased to hear things went as well as they did, and that you all came
home safely," Loanna continues, smiling. "Well done, everyone."[698]
Dar'Tessir had been

Nalion's generosity and only ate in moderation but it was , none the less, more

says. "And there's more to come; this was the first step of a much larger
plan, after all."
A larger plan you're helping to organize, Loranna reminds herself,
slightly annoyed that she conveniently forgot said fact when wishing she could
be part of the effort to find Goranthir.
"We should keep our eyes open; if nothing else I'd suspect the Indoril and
Redoran will try to attack us simply because we're the most visible city with
former slaves turned freemen," Loranna continues. "Especially since
we just hit a target deep in their territory."[709]

"I felt something, just a few hours ago.", Nalion began, not really
knowing how to describe the feeling. "It felt like a cold claw clutching
my heart in an iron grip. And it felt wrong, very wrong."
Nalion was doubtful. He felt like some street prophet predicting doom, but to
him, this feeling - the threat - was real.
"I do not know what caused this, I do not even know whether I am
hallucinating or not. It's disturbing."
The mage shook his head. "I don't know what it is nor where to look
for." For someone like him, maybe this was also a reason for his concern.
A known threat could be assessed, with this though...
"Goranthir is missing?", the Breton asked, his worries increasing.
"Oh... no. We need to get him out of Vvardenfell. I guess this is the
reason for this meeting? Can this be a coincidence? I will help to the best of my

claiming they burned a heretic and there's a lot of animals going crazy in
VVardenfell."
She pauses, frowning. "Your help would be welcome of course Nalion,"
she says, "though Reichi has a good point. Anya can talk to beasts, and
she's one of our best stealth people; if anyone can avoid notice for long

Shaka.

"The thing is, we simply don't know what we're dealing with," Loranna
says. "For all we know Goranthir is trapped in an abandoned Daedra shrine
fending off a horde of clanfears and dremora and needs all the help he can
get."
"Vvardenfell still uses slaves despite the edict; I think we could justify

and all of you should avoid that. You should make yourself part of the scenery

[825] QUOTE(Aki @ Dec 8 2005, 08:55 PM)
[826] "We could have the non Dunmeri body-painted, to look Dunmeri from a distance, once they get a good look at the eyes, or even too close it'll be ineffective, but it'll cut down on getting caught some," Reichi suggested. "Unless they're accepting of halfbred Dunmer, then we could pass 'em off as that. And as Nalion suggested, Argonians and such who wish to go can be disguised as slaves."
[828]
"Thank you, Duchess. . . . Reichi, maybe that would help Anya; darkening
her hair and making her ash-skinned. Her ears can already pass for
dunmer."
"I'll be glad to go along. Reichi might even take the Spear and Dragonbone
Cuirass along, on the pretext of selling legendary artifacts to them. A
thought, unless we risk losing them for real."

[833]
Nalion thought about the proposals that were made.
"I'd also say that disguising Anya is feasible, however, I think that
taking these two artifacts with you might rouse more interest than you all
would need on this mission. After all, the Spear is a weapon of a Prince of the
House of troubles. I would not underestimate fanatic Dunmer." [834]

Anya grabbed her head, concerned, "My hair? Who said anything about
touching my hair?" [839]

"There are ways of fixing one's hair without resorting to brutish
measures," Loranna says as her blond tresses turn into a cascade of
straight, fire-red locks, making her look rather Dunmer for a moment.
"Perhaps I should share a couple beauty secrets with you Anya dear."
She smiles, her hair returning to normal.

said. "Best to keep both concealed under a hood, like I said."

Loranna shrugs. "Point taken; the offer stands if you're still interested
Anya. But we probably shouldn't be relying on illusions overmuch anyway
..."
"Well then, I think that covers everything," she continues, getting
up. "We've got a lot of work to do, and fast."
