The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses
Posted by: Stargazey Nov 22 2005, 09:51 PM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
===
Newcomers, we ask you to http://http//www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&st=40&p=2871855&#entry2871855!!
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it. Also,
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737. as soon as
possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html to help you get up to speed, here
is perspective. This summary doesn't cover everything but it sums up some of
the bigger events our campaign has covered. Note: I will probably update and
edit this summary as time goes on.
===
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are
encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some
reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not
there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can, http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

IMPORTANT: WE HAVE JUMPED SIX MONTHS INTO THE FUTURE; IT IS NOW RAIN'S
HAND/SECOND SEED IN THE RP (i.e., April/May)

Summary
Kratos and Ivelaes are in Molag Mar; having recently been informed of her
progress, Kratos believes and trusts Anya with the important job he has placed
on her shoulders.
------------------
Molag Mar
Kratos had many thoughts on his mind as he gazed out at the shimmering ocean.
There was only one thing to do now; put Anya in charge of the Shrine capturing
mission. She could head out as soon as she pleased, for Kratos had many other
things to attend to in this dire time.

Diamond is in the Nymph and the Noggin, keeping an eye on
things. She recently comforted Thom and Isidor, providing advice. She has
become fairly good at that.
Marein is doing stuff somewhere.
Shai is somewhere Telera is not, but she is not mad.

Summary: Shaka, an Argonian battlemage, is sailing with Telera
to Molag Mar to offer Anya help in reclaiming the Shrines.
The trip across the Inner Sea was uneventful, except when Shaka stood at the
bow of the ship with Telera in his arms and watched for Molag Mar to appear.
"I'm King of . . . Nothing!" he shouted, but the soldiers and sailors
didn't catch an Argonian's humor.
When the canton heaved into view, Shaka could see traces of the battle, but
overall the fortress had been well rebuilt and reinforced. The mountains
brooded to the north, as ever. Shaka knew tombs and ruins worth exploring lay
across the region, but there would be no time for that during the civil war.
"Well, let's try to find Anya before she goes on a Shrine mission,"
he remarked to Telera.

"Absolute Durzog-dung." Said Reeds, feeling his way over to the bar,

"I'm...well." said Diamond confusedly. After talking to Reeds a bit
more, she got the full details of the story.
"Here, how about I ask the chef to whip up something sedative?" She
walked into the kitchen and returned with a steaming cup of soup.
"Drink up," she said, seizing his hand firmly and placing it on the
spoon. "It's got some ingredients in it that increase your fatigue - I'm
no expert on alchemy, though, so I can't tell you more than that. The hot water
alone will soothe you. I'm told that it should keep you asleep for a few

"This isn't that stuff Bob gave to that guy earlier was it?" Reeds
asked worriedly, "I don't think I could deal with that right now."

after an interesting experience with Anya and some muatramer and is now sitting
in a holding cell in Molag Mar.
Kratos made his way down into the prison. He had heard that Anya arrested a
fugitive that had attempted to steal from her. He was not all that pleased that
one would steal from a good friend. He decided that he would treat this
prisoner with all of the courtesy he could muster; all though, he had heard
that this one was on the nutty side.
"Hello there. I hear you have gotten yourslef into quite a bit of trouble
here. My name is Kratos, I am in command here at Molag Mar. Are you willing to
talk this out with me?" Kratos asked, courteously.

"It's excellent. Warm, and slightly spicy." Diamond replied firmly.
"Nothing to worry about. In fact..."
She moved away from Reeds briefly. There was a handwritten menu posted behind
the bar, to the bottom of which she added a note: "Sleep Soup (Fatigue
Formula) 50 Septims."
The tavern would have its first customers for that item within the hour - the
same man asked for a bed to sleep in, so there was profit all around.
Diamond returned to Reeds.

Kratos ordered one of the Muatramer on prison guard duty to bring the sword

that you can control yourself enough to have restraint. Can you do this for

Diamonds hadn't lied to him yet, so Reeds decided to try it. He sipped a
spoonful of the soup. It was perfect, just warm enough and delightfully spicy.
Spoon still in hand, Reeds fell snout first into the soup, fast asleep.
OOC note: probably out till late sunday.

Diamond had the appropriate people move Reeds to a room.
When he woke a few hours later he would have his eyesight back, hopefully.

"Sekka," he nodded, shaking the mer's hand. Shaka had only a shard of
memory from the Tome as to Sekka's nature. The dunmer reminded him of the
Argonian who had had the Fork of Horripilation: another being who had been
seduced onto the Golden Road by Sheogorath.
It was uncanny how Sekka's voice changed as his personalities drifted to the
surface and tumbled away again. "Some cultures on Nirn would hold you in
esteem, Sekka," he said. "The . . . challenged, and the mad, are
thought to be in special favor with the gods." He looked at the mer with a
slight feeling of pity.

“Maybe he’ll get turned around and we’ll see him again in a day or two. Then we

"Well, there are a few who knew what they were doing, but largely they
were given Chameleon items and sent in for the kill. Highly inefficient if you
ask me. I made sure each of them knew how to hide themselves, and to only rely
on that. Enerything else is a bonus. Plus, I made sure they now know how to kill
quietly, and accurately. And enemy that doesn't have warning, can't defend

They discussed the captured Morag Tong, speaking in Hist.
"You should kill him and take his heart as a trophy, there are not many

own encounter with the Morag Tong.
"I am not so sure that would be propper. Either way we need to talk to

They took turns, one standing guard while the other slept. Guards ere posted

"It's nearly finished, thank you," said Diamond;
indeed she had been working on Reichi for a few months now. Reichi was one of
the most interesting subjects, as his lycanthropy made for interesting
material. The entire background of the painting was a night of wolves in the
full moon - hunting, battling, prowling. In the foreground Reichi was crouched
and ready to fight. Behind him, but of equal proportion, was a faded image of
the white werewolf. The foreground Reichi's ring was prominent.
It had taken a long time to perfect the concept of this one, as she didn't want
to make it clear that Reichi was a werewolf while still paying homage to his
abilities. In the meantime she had in fact completed another painting: Anya.
Though she had considered painting Anya with Shaka, as she had painted Isidor
and Kethiah, their relationship was so confusing (Telera and now Shai, quests
with Dibella...) that she had decided to paint the three of them - Anya, Shaka,
and Telera - separately. Anya's painting had the Bosmeri archer concealed
behind a tree, the branches revealing only her eyes and the arrow-end of her
bow. It was distinctly Anya, though.
The portrait of Anya was back at Diamonds' studio home, as was Reichi's.
--------------------------
Over the past eight months, Diamond had completed a total of six oil-on-canvas
paintings including Reichi: There was opening night at the Nymph, with a
handful of the heroes clanking tankards; from the same night, Loranna and
Tris's Dibellan dance; Goranthir, the majestic warrior-king (with a full head
of hair); Isidor and Kethiah, back-to-back, defending one another, the twins
behind; Anya, as described earlier; and Reichi. The dance scene was with
Kethiah and the last two were with Diamond, so Ald Raathim's Wall of Heroes now
featured three paintings.
--------------------------
Diamond told Kethiah that she would have two paintings ready for her soon,
which would both go on the Wall.

Reiza opened the door to Jane's office and found her employer standing in the
middle of the room, pondering a letter.
"I have received word from the freight ship we were looking into."
Jane looked up with a smile on her face and started to pace with exuberance.
"Excellent, it's all falling into place, it best have been good." She
looked up and Reiza quickly nodded. "I'm leaving for Cheydinhal, could you
see to it that every thing is made ready for my departure. I have something to
take care of. You will run things from here."
...
It was a short time later when Jane was outside the Nymph and Noggin in a brown
traveling robe, her hood covering most of her face. She opened the door, pulled
the hood away from her face, and had a quick look around for Kethiah as she
headed towards the bar.

slaves in Ald Raathim. If you do have some, then I will have that."
"You have Heshkal here?" Jei-Set asked, "First place I

Slashes eyed the crowds again. "I think perhapps we would be safer
in the Nymph, but a place where we can watch the enterances. Will you
take us?"
Diamond led the Argonian pair up to a room on the second floor, and placed them
in a booth slightly removed from the stairs so that, with watchful eyes, they
could spot someone coming up from the Noggin before that someone spotted them.
There was, in fact, some Heshkal remaining, but supplies were very limited.
Diamond gave the Argonians some at original price but raised the cost soon
after.

A young Imperial in the employ of King Helseth, Octovides, brought his report
to Kratos.
"This is from one of our agents undercover in Vvardenfell who has been to
Telasero," he said.
Telasero
The Redoran and Indoril have the shrine well-protected, and there are a number
of powerful battlemages in their employ. Some of the walls have been
sealed, and when I inquired about the reasons, I was told it had something to
do with the former inhabitants of the shrine ... Which would be Sixth House adherents
... I investigated further, and could hear faint scratching sounds behind the
walls ... It may be that some ash slaves survived to this day and are sealed
within.

Kratos read the report and smiled when he saw the letter G. He knew exactly who
Agent G was. He began drawing a crude sketch of Telasero, further inhancing it
with the description on the paper. As he finished, the fortress began to look
almost exactly like what you would imagine it to look like.
There would be a time for taking shrines back; now they would just have to
focus on things a little closer to home.

Slashes-With-Claws and Jei-Set had finished their meal and

Slashes lowered his voice. "Nothing of the kind, a few bounty hunters we
can handle."
"I got one already." Jei-set added.
Slashes pondered for a moment, why should he tell the dunmer about the
assassination attempts? But there was something odd about him, "you look
like a good fighter, perhaps you could help us out with something. There have
been two assassination atempts. One on me, one on Jei-Set. Faryon has issued a

"A writ. Hm. Well, theres generally three ways for a writ to end. The
target dying, the writ being cancelled by the guy who put out the writ, and the
writ's duration running out. Most only have a thirty day duration or so."
"I am a good fighter, but actively fighting the Tong without the assassin

Isidor sat on the roof of the Nymph and Noggin, gazing out at

had not come yet, and Isidor had a clear view of the inner sea.
As he sat, he wondered what tommorrow might bring. What the war would bring.
Who knew what would happen tommorrow? You had to be grateful for what you had
today, he supposed, instead of what you might not have tommorrow.
Isidor reajusted himself, to sit more comfortably, and closed his eyes.

If Tris Gaerington was the fastest man alive, then Marein
Nightscar may well have been the luckiest. While it was true that in his past
he had been fallen down from a tower, dwelled in a coma, found a ridiculous
possessive crown while adventuring, gotten trapped in the body of a sixteen
year old girl, and been forced to kill his own love, it was also true that he
had survived the fall, awoken from the coma, subdued the crown, saved the
girl's life, and saved it again by killing his former fiancee.
Lately Marein had been out of sorts, plagued with guilt and battle trauma.
Today, though, he went down to the Noggin and played cards.
It felt good to win.

Haasuul, male argonian bounty hunter, is currently stalking his next victim in
Ald Raathim, having recently turned in a large sack of right arms for a healthy
sum of gold.

Haasuul occasionally stole a quick glance at the Khajiit drinking witrh his
friends in the Noggin. The argonian didn't know if he was a freed slave. Nor
did he care. He had come here because Ald Raathim had so many Khajiit and

Ald Raathim
The door to the Nymph and Noggin swung open, and a handsome young Breton male
stepped through. A small brown satchel hung from his left shoulder down to his
right hip, most likely containing supplies from a faraway journey. One look and
you could tell he was an experienced mage; he also looked as though he hadn't a
care in the world.
He cringed with delight as he noticed that Ald Raathim was host to a plethora
of beautiful women. He could never control himself around a pretty lady. The
first lovely barmaid that crossed his path would most likely be susceptible to
his charming and flirting.
He ordered himself a drink at the bar and waited for the first chance to meet
someone new. He was very noticeable in a crowded environment.

So you said it had somthing to do with Dagon? or the Daedra? It would certianly explain the vermillion ink... and what do you think of the last part of the message that has been torn off?' she trailed off into dreamland for a bit... thinking about the message, and what it could all mean, 'Im sorry, then that I wasted your time... so, what are you up to these days? Other than running a tavern, Isidor?'
"Getting married, soon enough," Isidor said, with a smile. Noticing
the breton man flirting with Maranda, and Bob acting odd as usual, Isidor sat
on a stool, with a bemused smile.

He seen the Tavern in the distance, but his vision was blurred for some strange

Slashes-With-Claws and Jei-Set walked down the streets of Ald
Raathim. They were bot a little nervous and kept looking about. Slashes watched
a Dunmer come out from an alleyway and turn towards them. The Dunmer began to
wave his hands, lightning crackled between them. Slashes turned to face the
dunmer and made his own quick magicka gestures. As the Dunmer finished a ball
of lightning came shooting out of his hands towards Jei-Set. Slashes, realizing
he was not the target pushed Jei-Set aside just in time. Jei-Set watched in
horror as the shock ball slammed into Slashes. There was a brief pinkish flash
and the ball of lightning went back the way it had came, sparks surged around
the Dunmer attacker, he fell dead.
"I forgot you were skilled in mysticism." Jei-Set said,
"Perhapps you can train me to reflect spells."
Slashes searched the body of the dunmer and found a Morag Tong writ, Jei-Set's
name was on it. "They have found you."

"Is life ever so simple?" Arynel asked, "One must put many miles behind him before he forgets his servitude, many more before his old masters will let him."
"So," Isidor asked, "You think that the slaves will seek revenge
on their old masters -- and likewise? Hmm. Seems that's already happening with
that Indoril Fayron fellow. Do you think that this will have the effect that
Helseth wanted it to?"

Loranna had been busy at work when Slashes-With-Claws comes; ever since Faryon
had sent his reply to her propaganda piece, she had been formulating a proper
response, one that would not rely on words this time.
Upon hearing Slashes's news, she frowns, taking the writ from him and looking
it over with a frown. " ... I see," she says slowly, looking back up
at Slashes. "I wasn't aware you had any enemies; do you know of who might
have issued this?" she asks, her eyebrows arched.

"I do my lady. As you may or may not have guessed, I am a former
slave." He gave a slight sigh, he had to tell her everything. "It is
the family of my former master, Alren Dres, that seeks me dead. I... I killed
him. He was going to beat me, he said I had stollen some food, I am no thief. When
he was about to beat me I struck him with my claws, I tore him open. I could
have left him to suffer a slow death, but that is not my way, I slit his throat
and ended it. I took the key to my bracers from him and his sword. As I made my
way to free the other slaves I was attacked several times by the guards. I
killed three of them, a fouth ran." He looked down towards the floor.
"I realized that I would be known by the guard who ran, I changed my name.
My real name is Hesek. They just recently found out and issued the writ."
He looked at Loranna. "I am wanted for four murders. I am sorry for hiding
this from you. If I have caused you dishonor by my being here and you believe
that I should pay for the crimes of which I am accused, then take my sword, and
kill me now." He looked back down to the floor, shame on his scally face.

Inside a Dark cell, underneath the temple offices, slept a
single Dunmer, ragged and thin.
The door creaked open, and light flooded in, almost blinding him. Light was an
anomaly here.
A shadow soon covered the light back up again. The Shadow of a Muatramer
Grandmaster, or even two.
"Good afternoon Ravel." Chimed Vaan. "You're suprisingly Alive,
for a spy." (The time it took Muatramer to capture, trial, and execute a
spy was about 1 hour, in most cases)
Ravel didn't do much, apart from shake in the cold, and make scared noises.
Vaan walked into the cell, closely followed by Necron.
"Ravel. You're a spy. You and your family should be either dead or
brainwashed* by now. Do we get a thankyou?"
Ravel managed to stutter a thankyou out.
"There. Do you know why we have kept you alive?"
Ravel shook his head.
"Because we have something that needs doing, and you're the mer to do
it."
Necron handed the prisoner a piece of paper with instructions, and spoke:
"The short of it is, traitor, you do what we want you to, or your wife'll
find herself without a head, and your son...well, there are casualties in
war."
Ravel read the paper. In short, it wanted him to spy on his former
employers....a double agent. but more specifically, he was to infiltrate the
false temple.
"We'll leave you to decide. It's either that...or your head. And your
wife's head. and so on."
The two Muatramer left. The only thing they had done here that was against
regulations, was keep the prisoner alive.
* Vaan is using "Brainwashed" for effect only. the reality is
"Re-educated."

Loranna closes her eyes for a moment, processing what Slashes had said. A
dispute between master and slave; the sort of thing Helseth had wanted his
vassals to investigate before the abolition went into motion. And Slashes was
one of her best commanders, too ...
She knew Slashes, knew him as an Argonian who was not the type to lie; if he
said he fought back when threatened with a beating, she believed him. Whether
his former master was going to beat him to death ... well, she had no way of
telling that right here and now. She'd have to investigate to find that out,
and with the abolition having already have happened, that might be hard; she'd
have to talk to Kethiah about it.
"You should have told me this before, yes," she says, dropping the
writ onto her desk. "I'm not going to kill you dear; I do have to
investigate this matter though, and while I am I'm worried about your safety. I
think it might be best to have you stay in the castle till this is resolved;
I'll inform Dram to be on the lookout for Morag Tong operatives."
She sighs, and mutters "The past always has a way of showing back up at a
really bad time, doesn't it? All right; tell me everything you can about your
former master please, dear."

was necissary of the cheapest thing he could get. I was lucky I had been able
to avoid being beaten as long as I had. I was a strong and hearty worker, my
birthsign, the Lady, helped me there. He always liked to beat slaves in
private, he liked the one on one interaction, he liked to show them he was

"The assassin," Loranna says, fingering the writ, "will be dealt
with, assuming he hasn't taken the matter into his own hands already. He failed
and lost his writ; I doubt he has much to look forward to back at the

She had been taking notes of Slashes's story as he talked, not making any

was fairly stark; with luck, it wouldn't prove too hard to confirm the validity
of his story. The Dres tended to know who in their House were slave-beaters or worse.

Slashes-with-Claws wanted to be back training his new recruits,
but it was too dangerous to leave the castle with an assassin after him.
He and Jei-set spent most of the day talking over the events of the past year.

To Dres Loranna Pyrel, Lady of Ald Raathim,
In response to your recent query, I can ofer you the following rom my personal
experience:
It was my dubious pleasure to know our departed House brother, Alren Dres. He
was a serious and uncompromising mer, who rarely smiled outside of the circle
of his immediate family. He was noble-born and bred, and had manners befitting
one of his station, so he was at least civil company, and he was conscientious
in manners monetary, never living beyond his means. My wife tells me that
Alren's spouse Minbiah described her husband as generous and loving, and I do
not doubt that to his immediate family he was a far different mer than he was
to the rest of the world; it has been my experience in my years that the
outward mask shown by many nobles is never meant to be worn around loved ones.
Nonetheless, there was a disturbing facet to Alren, particularly in his
treatment of his property. How best to put this ... he was always conscious of
the cost to replace a lost servant or slave, yet somehow, this concern did not
extend to the actual upkeep of either. His household staff commonly sported
leaner physiques than those of his neighbors, and though Alren never descended
to the barbarities of Dres Raithmat in the treatment of his slaves, it was an
open secret that the slaves of Alren's plantations were beaten regularly to
insure discipline, and beaten severely enough that visitors to Alren's
plantations often commented on the ... weathered ... look of the slaves. Alren
was the sort of man who insisted on taking care of all matters personally, so I
can well imagine that he was personally responsible for all of those beatings.
As for the matter of Alren's death, it was hushed up at the time, though the
rumors that he met his end at the hands of one of his own slaves circulated
regardless of his wife's attempts to keep the lid on things. Many of Arlen's
slaves escaped that day, a loss his surviving family could ill afford; they
never recovered either financially or emotionally. My dear Radene tells me that
Minbiah became a quietly bitter person after the incident, and Alren's eldest
son, Gadave - well, let us say he followed in his father's footsteps in every
way he could.
The recent loss of their lands to the Indoril scum has removed what little zest
Minbiah and her children had for their old social circles; they stopped
attending many of the functions they used to come to, and neither I nor any of
my fellows have heard so much as a peep from the poor woman since he King made
his big proclamation. I can only imagine the three of them, mother and her two
sons, sitting together in some meager townhouse in Mournhold, trying to
remember happier times.
I hope this answers your inquiries to satisfaction, and I look forward to
enjoying your welcome company agin at the earliest opprotunity, my House
sister. I remain your brother in Dres and your loyal servant,
Dres Elammu
Loranna puts down the letter and rubs her eyes; Elammu had always been an
overly talkative sort, but his letter confirmed what she had heard from other
sources as well. There was every reason to believe that Salshes-With-Claws's
story.
The worrisome part was that, since the emancipation, no one had heard from
Minbiah at all. Husband dead, already hurting financially, lands taken by the
Indoril ...
And the assassin had been found dead in his cell this morning to boot; bit his
tongue off and let himself bleed to death. The chances of getting the writ on
Slashes rescinded seemed remote.

Ki'airre's journey into Skyrim:
Before he had left he had placed a mark in the nymph and that mark would serve
him well in his escape. He had made his way to a ruin in Skyrim on the trail of
a murderous ex-general from his army. Ki'airre had made it to the ruin without
trouble but when he got there he found his target. Lazuris stood in the open
door-way of the ruin "So my lord" he said in a mocking tone "It
seems you have come to seek revenge on me for what i did. Is this so?"
Ki'airre readied his weapons not knowing what lazuris had up his sleeve.
"I have come to kill you and rescue my daughter. And I'll kill anyone who
stands in my way." Lazuris laughed at ki'airre's foolishness. "It
seems that old age is getting to you. Lesson number one my lord, stay aware of
your surroundings." a Khajiit had snuck up behind Ki'airre and hit him
over the head with a mace.

Time had passed and Jane had passed from Ald Raathim to the last
gate before Kragenmoor. It loomed before her, Shadowgate it was called, with
over one hundred armoured men guarding it at numerous stations. A group
approached the gates, Jane, her retainer Rigen, four armoured mercenaries, and
several servants carrying luggage. Jane looked fresh and radiant, a tribute to
the stop they had made to allow for the appropriate grooming, in a vibrant red
gown with a low cut neck displaying her soft pale skin, her russet tresses were
groomed to a shine. Her green eyes, highlighted with her arsenal of pigments,
shone with anticipation of the adventure before her. Rigen was dressed in black
with red trim to match his mistress. They reached the gate and a guard came
forward.
“Welcome, I’ll have to see your pass.” Jane nodded to Rigen who passed the
guard the purple pass Jane had been sent in response to the letter to Faryon.
The guard looked it over then motioned that they could continue. As they passed
between the tall guard towers a crystal beacon sent a bright purple light up
into the sky above them. Jane pursed her lips.
“It seems odd to have that degree of warning for a merchant. Keep you eyes open
Rigen, we’re here for profit and don’t need any trouble.” Rigen only knew of
the weapons trade but there was reason enough to be anxious about that
transaction. Very few of Jane’s employees have knowledge of other side of her
business.
They proceeded towards the city of Kragenmoor.

With a gurgle, the guard collapsed to the ground, clutching his
slit throat. Several other guards fell by similar means. Making sure the man
was dead, she used hand signals to form up the Muatramer squad.
Pushing the door open to the shrine, she had the Muatramer cast there spells,
quieting their movements. Sending several of the more adept operatives in front
of here, she crept towards the main room, to scout the presence of the Indoril
and Redoran troops.
Regrouping, she took in the reports of the other scouts. Nodding grimly, she
moved the squad foward, wary of several rooms that weren't accesible until they
wiped out the Indoril forces. There was a heavy presence, but it seemed that
depsite the several shrines already taken, the enemy wasn't expecting a quiet

A few hours earlier, Molag Mar:
There was a trustful glint in his eye as Kratos saw Anya and her soldiers off.
He gave them an encouraging speech down on the bridge, hoping it would be
enough for them to muster the strength and morale to stay alive that night. He
jokingly told them that he would personally hang them by their toenails if they
defied Anya's orders, because she wasn't a Muatramer; he knew that they had
warmed up to her during their training, there was nothing of the sort to worry
about.
Although Kratos would rather have gone out with his Muatramer, he had more
important business to handle.

Slashes-with-Claws and Jei-Set were tired of sitting around in
the castle. Slashes sent a servent out on some business. The servent returned a
little while lter carring assorted wooden practice weapons. Slashes and Jei-Set
took them to the enclosed courtyard.
Slashes took a wooded claymore, Jei-Set the wooden halberd. They spared. the
claymore constantly moving in wide sweeps, keeping Jei-Set away and deflecting
his atttacks. Jei-Set dodged and struck. Slashes scorred the first hit, Hei-Set
soon scorred after that. After both got several hits on the other, none of
which counted as fatal, they stopped.
"You are quite skilled my friend." Slashes said. He dropped the
claymore and picked up a wooded spear. He had not held a spear in several
years. It was the weapon he had been trained to use in the army of Argonia.
They started fighting again. Slashes had not used the spear in a while, Jei-Set
scored several times, two of the hits counted as kills. Slashes memory of the
intricasies of the spear began to return. He dodged, sung, jabed, and spun in
what looked like a dance, the moves getting more and more complicated and
intricate in the impressive and deadly fighting style of the Argonian army.
They were about even in skil, Slashes was still rusty, but he had a desire to
get a spear of his own. Slashes made the final move when he pulled a steel
knife from his belt and mocked throwing it.
Jei-Set looked at the knife in slashes hand, "I believe that would be a
fatal throw to the neck. A very surprising move."
Slashes wished he could find an Argonian Long Spear somewhere, said to be one
of the deadliest spears in all of Tamriel.

claws! That was it."

courtyard." Reichi uttered a thank you before heading off to the
courtyard.
"Hey, Slashes, I just remebered something 'bout that writ of yours!"

Moonlight came through the window sporadically as the curtains rustled in the

For some time, Gthyon stood by the sleeping woman's bedside. She was

but he might return. It was important to act now.
He stepped into the shadows where he knew he would not be seen, except for his
preternaturally bright eyes and whispered, "Loranna, Lady of Ald Raathim,
Loranna ..." until she woke up ...
Loranna, due in part to her alchemical works and in part to her experiences as
an adventurer, was a lighter sleeper these days than she had been in previous
years. She had become aware of a presence in her room before Gthyon had spoken
aloud, and her hand had quietly crept to the dagger she always kept at her

"Who are you." Her tone was direct, demanding; the tone of voice of a
woman who was distinctly less than pleased to be woken up in the middle of the
night in such a matter. "What do you want." The bedsheet slid off her
body as she sat up with grace and speed, dagger at the ready.

Loranna,
due in part to her alchemical works and in part to her experiences as an
adventurer, was a lighter sleeper these days than she had been in previous
years. She had become aware of a presence in her room before Gthyon had
spoken aloud, and her hand had quietly crept to the dagger she always kept at
her side, ever since it had been plunged into her back while she swam under the
waters of the castle's beach.
"Who are you." Her tone was direct, demanding; the tone of
voice of a woman who was distinctly less than pleased to be woken up in the

The bedsheet slid off her body as she sat up with grace and speed, dagger at
the ready.
The bright eyes glistened in the dark corner. "Forgive this intrusion,
Lady of Daruhn. My and your enemies can approach you away from the shadows,
with candlelight on their faces, but I cannot ... I have come here to warn you
of a great danger, and to seek your help."

Loranna's lips curl into a frown as her eyes try to pierce the shadows. Even
with Jazbet's ring granting her the nightvision of a cat, it was hard to make
out much about her current ... guest.
"Elaborate please," she says, her tone softening just a little. Her
dagger remains in its ready position however. "Who are you, what is this

Reeds awoke, stiff and sore. Getting dressed and going down to
the bar, he soon discovered he had been asleep for three days.
Diamond, you and your stew.... He headed over to the bar to giver her a
peice of his mind, when something caught his eye just outside his vision.
Turning, he looked over and saw a high elf sitting at a table, his left arm
covered in glowing blue aura.
resigned to his fate, Reeds sat at the bar and ordered a drink.

silk and lace, a shirt of great tailoring, a long jacket of a technique lost in
modern times.
It was his face, though, that commanded attention. Beautiful black hair. A face
like a melting candle. Eyes like fire. His teeth were white and very, very
sharp.
"I am Gthyon of the Clan Aundae," he said. His voice was soft.
"My nature and that of the threat is the Vampire."

"I am Gthyon of the Clan Aundae," he said. His voice was soft. "My

For a single sharp moment, Loranna becomes keenly aware of the scene; a fanged
dandy in antique clothes, with a face that was spellbinding in its hideousness,
standing politely over the bed of a naked woman clutching a dagger. The proper
response would be to scream, or to yank the covers back over her ashen frame.
Screaming however would prove counter-productive at this point, and fiddling
with the covers would interfere with her spellcasting. So she simply motions
with her hand that Gthyon is close enough for comfort and need not come
further, muttering "Vampires ..."
The last time Loranna and her companions had any interactions with the
vampires, they had all but destroyed the blood drinkers who had taken over
Balmora, taking down one of the proeminent clan leaders of Quarra, if not the
clan elder, to Loranna's memory. The battle had been fierce but mostly
one-sided, and Loranna had figured it had left bitter feelings in the hearts of
those vampires who had survived. Which made tonight's visitation all the more
curious.
"What exactly do you mean?" she asks Gthyon, her words more direct
than she intended. "Is it Volrina's remaining supporters seeking vengenace
for Balmora?"

Gthyon chuckled, and it was a pleasantly human sound from his inhuman mouth.
"Balmora was ... No, in short, my people have no issue with yours about
that unforunate incident ..."
His pallid, yellow-white face came closer. "You have nothing to fear from
those of us who look like monsters to you ... The greatest danger facing your
land is from creatures who look like you, beautiful to you even ... But are not

She diplomatically does not add that she was as dangerous in her own way as
most vampires, though it was encouraging to hear that Balmora wasn't being held
against her - or at least not overtly.
"I'm listening," she says to Gthyon. "You come to tell me then

Loranna's eyes narrow slightly. Gthyon's words sent images through her mind
that she did not particuarly welcome. His appearance wasn't helping much
either, as much as Loranna resolutely tried to ignore it.
A crazy thought runs through her head: I can just see it now; vampires who
used to be members of Indoril and Redoran loudly claiming that the Empire is
sending in its own vampires to steal Morrowind's blood supply from them ...
"As if there wasn't enough conflict going on in our providence

"They will come only at night," Gthyon said, and then, at the

"And they will not abide holy places ... You have been warned ... I will

As he vanished completely, a servant Kisses-With-A-Scratch -- a young Argonian
female -- came into the room, bearing with her a letter.
"This just came," she said, handing Loranna the letter.
It was a declaration that Ald Raathim be considered a Duchy of Morrowind, with
Loranna proclaimed as the Grand Duchess, by Dinara of Mournhold.

I'm going to have to learn how vampires do that, Loranna thinks to
herself as Gthyon makes his exit. His last words ring in her ears.
Opening the letter, Loranna finds she has to read it three times over to make
sure she read it right. Ald Raathim, a Dutchy of Morrowind; herself, the Grand
Dutchess ...
Alone, the letter would have left her standing bemused, a grin on her face.
Combined with Gthyon's chilling warning though, the smile that came to her face
was strained.
Ald Raathim was growing, and it seemed it was attracting predators. She wasn't
sure if she could stop them completely, but she was damn sure going to try.

Flashback, Night Before Current Shrine Mission:
Shaka and Anya had a few moments alone in her quarters.
"I won't keep you, angel," he said, and hugged her. As always, the
Bosmer scent was unique, to Shaka a mixture of woodland and musk. "I know
you have to gear up for tomorrow."
"I'm going to stay at Molag Mar for a few days and see if Kratos has any
other tasks for me. Take care of yourself and your troops."

Anya brought her dagger to the man's exposed throat. He never
saw the knife, but gulped in suprise as her hand materialized in front of him.
The thud from his falling body alerted the other Redorans and Indorils in the
room, but they hardly had time to shout a warning before half a dozen Muatramer
killed them.
Anya sent half her men one way, and half she had come with her. The other
guards, alerted by a few shouts that had escaped, still had no chance. So quiet
were the Muatramer, and so disciplined, that they systematically killed the
guards off before any major defensive could be formed.
The last few remaining had caught on to what was attacking to them, and had
holed themselves in the last room. Most of the Muatramer were sent to guard the
shrine, to prevent an ambush or counter-offensive on them. Picking the lock
quickly, Anya burst through the door, which swiftly brought a sword through her
thigh.
Cursing her stupidity, and hoping that it just looked like bad luck to the men
under her charge, she whirled around and threw several poisoned daggers into
the Indoril's vitals. Her eyes widened in suprise as she heard a gasp and a
thud behind her, too close for comfort. She turned around to find a dumner
laying dead at her feet, and the same stoic Muatramer wrenching his sword free
from him. Flashing a smile, which seemed almost predatory from her expression,
she nodded a thanks.
The Muatramer were made to hold the shrine while word was sent that it was
finally taken. Anya left with a couple others to report back to Kratos. She
hummed a small tune, her spirits lightened with her work. Anya also made a
mental note that Kratos officially regocnized the skill and work of the people
under her.
