The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses
Posted by: Loranna Nov 14 2005, 09:57 PM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
===
Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it. Also, read
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as
possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.
To help you get up to speed, here is
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html told from my character Loranna's
perspective. This summary doesn't cover everything but it sums up some of the
bigger events our campaign has covered. Note: I will probably update and edit
this summary as time goes on.
===
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are
encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for
some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is
not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there
for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!
===
IMPORTANT: WE HAVE JUMPED SIX MONTHS INTO THE FUTURE; IT IS NOW RAIN'S
HAND/SECOND SEED IN THE RP (i.e., April/May)

Summary for Loranna: Loranna is in Mournhold Castle, having just heard of King
Helseth's plans to abolish slavery in Morrowind - and seen a Dres Knight
suddenly attack the King, earning himself a swift death. Loranna is heading
back to her rooms, the castle locked down for now ...

Summary:
Kratos and Ivelaes are in Mournhold attending the summit. The recent attack on
the King has forced them to stay in the castle until they can get to the bottom
of things.

ooc: Tyradil and Tiliatlia are in their respective rooms.
Ingmar is upset now, for a variety of reasons, and is steadily drinking himself
into a stupor.
Isidor is in Castle Mournhold, after an assassination attempt was made on the
king.
ic:
Isidor had watched the scene unfold, with something like mild amusement on his
face. Helseth could take care of himself, that was for sure. He smiled, and
looked up at Shaka's words.
"Well, I don't think the King wanted to 'ruin' the idea of abolition.
Quite the opposite, he seemed in favor of it."

Summary:
Shaka, an Argonian battlemage, is returning to the palace's guest quarters
after the attempt on Helseth's life, walking with Anya.
"Isidor, I didn't mean Helseth doesn't want abolition. I'm talking about
the traditionalists among the Houses."
Shaka surprised himself by punching the wall, which only served to break the
bones in his right hand. He half-knelt and healed himself; then rose, flexing
his hand.

Summary: Anya is in Mournhold with Loranna.
Bob is cooking, and his face looks like it might crack since he has a rare grin
on his face.
Lotus is wondering where the hell everyone went.

Shai has left Mournhold.
Diamond's awe-inspiring suggestions are going to have to be made tomorrow
thanks to some damned lame failure of an assassin.

"Well," Isidor said, standing in the doorway to his room,
"politely, screw them. As Helseth said, the times are changing. Move with
the flow, or get left behind. On that note," he said with a smile,
"good night, all."
He bowed, and closed the door. When he had gotten into his bed, he realized how
odd it felt not to have Kethiah next to him.

Summary
Helseth, King of Morrowind, has just revealed to a group of fifteen of his
allies his interest in abolishing slavery in Morrowind. He pointed to Ald
Raathim as an example of a community that has thrived since outlawing slavery.
Then he survived an attack on his by an assassin, furious at this plan.
Goranthir, Prince of Firsthold, is still undercover in Vvardenfell, trying to
find the identity of the false Tribunal. As Helseth revealed to Loranna, he has
left Vivec and is heading, with Moonstone, to the Ghostgate.
Kethiah is in Ald Raathim, at the Nymph and Noggin. She's going to cut Ingmar
off pretty soon.

"Sorry, Loranna," said Shaka. "Good as new, pretty much . . . .
I was expecting any topic from Helseth except this one. Morrowind would finally
be in line with the rest of the Empire."
"But there's another question. Does he risk dividing his own side? Maybe
have some of the nobles consider switching to the traditionalists?"
"To me, Ald Raathim's success shows you can have a place with free people,
diverse, working toward a common cause. Ald Raathim is a refuge, not only for
ex-slaves but for refugees from both Blue Dawn and the destruction of Red Mountain. . . . "

A small knife replaced the coin she had been twirling, though this time her

"Helseth isn't a fool; he'd have thought about the ramifications of this
already," Loranna opines. "Though he may have underestimated how
vehemently his allies would react ..."
"We'll have to see later when the meeting resumes how amenable to the idea
people really are; in the meantime, I think we'd best be on our guard - and,
come up with a good way to present the idea to the other nobles."
"Vendama and I actually discussed ideas for how to free slaves earlier,
when she and her brother were making plans for Tel Barona," she says.
"It was a more gradual arrangement, though, to ease the transition, and it
was done during peacetime as it was. As I recall, she and her brother set up a
system where the slaves worked to learn the skills they would later need, as they
were being freed."

"You should mention that tomorrow, my Lady, assuming Helseth is willing to
allow discussion. After that little incident, I don't think I'd blame him for
seeing us to the door. Diamond raised a good point too, about emancipating the
slaves on our enemy's side."

Vendama and Obael had the chance to try it?"

"They did," Loranna says. "From what I heard, it was working out
as well as could be hoped. And I don't think Helseth intends for this meeting
to end until a workable solution has been reached; if a simple
heat-of-the-moment assassin attack could deter him, he wouldn't be where he is

Reeds returned to the Library and finished his day's work. He
could not believe his luck. Seeing Serath again was like seeing a ghost from
his past. And, like most ghost sightings, it left its victim a bit off balance.
He tucked his new clothes carefully into his trunk, replacing the one set of
clothes he had, the ones he was wearing that night...
He ripped the old clothes into tiny peices before going to bed that night.

"That's true, Dres Loranna," said Shaka, reaching the door to his
guest room. "I'll see you when we convene later, then. I'll try to keep my
usual pessimism at bay." He hugged Anya.
I wish for your sake that Slyvos could have accompanied you, he thought, but
politics doesn't look like his area of interest.
Shaka closed the door and stood looking out at the afternoon, thinking awhile.

By now, Ingmar had drunk ... a lot of mead. And so, as he drank from his next

drinking song which was frankly, quite rude.

Kethiah wouldn't have minded it if he were doing it at the Noggin, but she knew

The Dunmer introduced themselves as Lord Fedavos, Lord Relam, and Lady Mirille.

Kratos sat in the room that had been provided for himself and
his son. He was reading the Invocations of Azura at the luxurious desk
that decorated a corner of the room.
Ivelaes anxiously paced the width of the room, obviously restless.
"Father, why are we just sitting here? Shouldn't we be helping to solve
this assassination attempt or maybe be doing something other than
nothing?" Ivelaes asked, impatiently.
Kratos didn't take his eyes off the book as he spoke to his son. "Ivelaes,
one thing you lack is patience. You are a fine young warrior, but you must
learn to let others take care of the world as well. One thing you will need to
acquire is serenity."
Ivelaes stopped and stared at the ground for a moment. He simply nodded his
head in agreement and drew his sword to practice his technique.

As Tilitalia had said, Fadril was handsome. A young, tall, dunmer with a

Well that didn't really tell us much, although It would seem I'm now in possesion of a bookstore's worth of literature."
"I still don't understand... none of you ever considered the idea of you
ever returning... why would he do this? Oh well, I think neither of us will complain."
Serath then turned to the tailor. "So, will you get those robes or not?
Hehe, so, did Master Farren say anything else about where he was going? .. or
just that he was getting retired?"

"That
does make sense," Lord Relam nodded. "I'm afraid we are still reeling
from the shock of this announcement. We will do as our King asks of us,
but ... it will be very difficult ..."
Lady Mirille nodded, looking to Anya. "I can understand why you hate
people such as myself. Truly I do. I think many of my slaves have
stories of injustice like that, and will seek their revenge on me when they are
freed. No, I'm not looking for pity. I am merely explaining why I
am less than enthusiastic about meeting my own death."
Tienius Delitian stepped into the hall. "The meeting is reconvening."
"I understand; I'm a bit stunned myself," Loranna says, smiling a bit
to Lord Relam. "All change is difficult; I know that from
experience."
She nods to Tienius and gets up, looking at Lady Mirille and Anya and asking
herself if there was some fair way to deal with the injustices done on both
sides. Given the length of time Morrowind had endorsed slavery, the question
seemed daunting.
"Let's go see if we can work out a way to avoid anyone else having to
die," she says as she makes her way back to the meeting.

attempted to justify it.
She flexed her hand, looking at the nobles. Her eyes didn't show it, but she
tried to be diplomatic about this, "'M Sorry for the outburst."
Lady Mirille nodded. "Like I said, I understand why you hate me without
even knowing me. It's actually exactly what I fear. It's one thing to die for
what you've done, quite another to die for what you represent. But, like I
said, I am sorry for your loss."

QUOTE(Stargazey @ Nov 15 2005, 07:31 PM)
The
fight had started, with the two men squaring off, in the middle. Fadril was
younger, quicker, and better then his opponent. Many of the spectators cried
out, as the Nord was slashed, once, twice, three times, by the challenger.
When the fight was over, Fadril sprinted over to the stands, and kissed
Tilitalia on the cheek. "Not a bad fight, eh?" He said, with a smile.
She nodded, as he turned to Kethiah.
"A pleasure to meet you, m'am," he said, bowing deeply. "Are you
Til's mother? Or," he said, with a small grin, "her sister?"
Kethiah laughed hard, from the ridiculousness of the compliment. "Not a
bad fight at all, no," she said. "You were obviously playing to the
crowd, but I'd watch out for some of that fancy footwork. You looked like you
almost fell twice, and if you lost your balance around a fighter like that,
you'd be in trouble."
Kethiah knew a thing or two about fighting.

"What book are you talking about? Gods forgive me, but this seems awfully

leave all these books here for someone who would probably never return again to
Mournhold. About the shipping - don't worry, friend. I will pay for it. But I
really want to know what happened."
Serath apologised his friend and left outside, looking for a Muatramer. He saw
one right around the corner - proud, imponent, imposing their warly sillouete
to anyone who passed. Serath tried to ignore the disconfort the substitutes of
the Indoril guards always made him go through, and asked "Well met, serjo.
Do you know if the previous owner of that establishment, a breton by the name

Serath was worried for his old friend. However, leaving so much behind just
screamed wrong. He suspected that he was either running from the law, or trying
to run away from something -quickly-. Why else would anyone do such a thing?

Kratos and Ivelaes had been told the summit was meeting again. They made their way down to the throne room and took their seats in the Vvardenfell section, again.
Noticeable was the absence of the entire group of representatives who had
included the attempted assassin. They were apparently all under arrest now,
according to the whispers.
Helseth walked quietly into the room, and the doors were shut and barred behind
him.
The room turned quiet as he took to his throne.
"My Lords and Ladies," the King said. "I feel the need to repeat
myself. Slavery will be outlawed in Morrowind by my order. The Indoril to the
south, and the Redoran and Indoril in Vvardenfell will suddenly find themselves
with rebellious slaves on their hands, while we will have prepared for it. We
will join the civilized, free world of the Empire. You cannot dissuade me from
this, and my patience is thin for those of you who try."
He was evidently speaking directly to some people in the room, as his eyes went
around the room.
"Let us talk now about the risks and how to eliminate them," Helseth
said, looking to Loranna's group.

"However ... the sera does raise good points. There will doubtless be some

Or we can do things Helseth's way, Loranna thinks to herself, closing her mouth

There was just the actual nitty-gritty details to be worked out from there;
Loranna was asked for some advice on what Ald Raathim had found to work for
them in the beginning when they freed their slaves, but by and large the
meeting settled into people drawing up their plans for their own areas and
agreeing on common strategies.
As the meeting buzzed along, Loranna found her thoughts turning increasingly to

QUOTE(Loranna @ Nov 15 2005, 10:04 PM)
Or
we can do things Helseth's way, Loranna thinks to herself, closing her mouth
and nodding.
There was just the actual nitty-gritty details to be worked out from there;
Loranna was asked for some advice on what Ald Raathim had found to work for
them in the beginning when they freed their slaves, but by and large the
meeting settled into people drawing up their plans for their own areas and
agreeing on common strategies.
As the meeting buzzed along, Loranna found her thoughts turning increasingly to
the slaves in Reodran and Indoril territory, and she began drawing up plans for
Ald Raathim's role in the upcoming days. She also watched the other
nobles, trying to guage their feelings as they work out their plans.
The nobles seemed to be taking the emancipation of Morrowind as the equivalent
of a promised natural disaster. There was nothing they could do to stop it,
only be prepared when it happened.
Chief among the things discussed was the question of finances, and it became a
fairly technical discussion. The different economic advisors proposed different
systems, as the King both wanted to upend their traditional model and raise the
taxes simultaneously. In one sense, it was a tedious discussion, in another, it
was a revolutionary one. It is one thing, after all, to end slavery. It is
another to survive that change. There could be no doubt about it, though, the
Redoran and Indoril, having no time to adjust their economies, would be hard
hit by this change. Helseth had planned that well.

There could be no doubt about it, though, the Redoran and Indoril, having no
time to adjust their economies, would be hard hit by this change. Helseth
had planned that well.
Shaka was sitting with the others from Ald Raathim, in a row of chairs behind
Loranna. He felt uneasy with the timing of this emancipation, and said as much
in a low voice to the others nearby. While it was true that the Houses Redoran
and Indoril would be hit hard by the announcement, Helseth's side would have a
chaotic few years for the new order to settle out . . . .
He leaned over to Loranna. "It still seems to me to be the right idea,
though begun for whatever reasons of Helseth's own," he said. "I feel
sorry for the warrior houses, in a way; not only have they lost much of their
ancestral lands on the mainland, but soon another underpinning of their
society."
Shaka studied Anya. Having never been a slave himself, he tended to forget how
terrible it must have been for her to have her family torn apart long ago, and
made into a sex slave. Although it was a weak gesture, he squeezed Anya's hand
for a moment anyway.
A thought suddenly hit him. By the Nine, we're sowing the seeds of future
rebellions today. The Houses may go under, but who's to say they won't become
like the Sixth House: a breeding ground for zealots who assassinate and commit
acts of terror against, say, former slaves or . . . the people here today.

Loranna doesn't answer Shaka directly, though she gives him a look that
suggests she is thinking along similar lines.
Aloud though, she says "Even with the new communities that we'll be
establishing, I imagine Ald Raathim is going to see an influx of new people
once the emancipation happens, especially from fleeing refugees from the
Reodran lands near ours." She psues for a brief second, listening to other
conversations in the room, then continues. "I've some ideas for how to
prepare Ald Raathim for these new people, and for what we can do as the weeks
wear on to help those former slaves still in enemy territory ..."

Loranna recalls Dinara having mentioned Llethan earlier today, that she thought
the King's cousin was thinking of stepping down from the legal tribunal.
Interests outside Morrowind, it seemed. Something in Dinara's tone had made
Loranna quietly decide to follow up on that information when she had a chance;
now seemed as good a time as any.
Excusing herself for a moment, she starts discretely walking toward the group

Loranna chuckles a bit as she says to Shaka "I know; I had somewhat the

"As for the King's cousin ... nothing really," she says, giving Shaka
a look that was meant to convey the addendum At least nothing I intend to

Loranna could see that Barenziah and Dinara had entered the room from a side
conference room. They were with a very tall, thin Altmer lad in the robes that
befitted someone of the Mages Guild. Dres Minsero went over to talk to them,
and she could tell from the Altmer's expression that they knew each other, and
he was somewhat nervous to see Minsero.

Shaka nodded, catching the look's import. "Two days to prepare for

us, and we haven't had slavery in Daruhn for years."

Minsero, Barenziah, Dinara, and the Altmer mage came over to Loranna's group,

gowns of blue and green respectively. It appeared obvious seeing them side by

Shaka and the rest of Loranna's entourage had stood out of respect when the
group approached. It was almost painful to the battlemage to see Barenziah's
and Dinara's combined beauty and charisma in the same room. Not every day you
were in front of a living legend, and her daughter-in-law.
Shaka suddenly realized that Dinara would presumably long outlive him, if she
followed Barenziah's example in dunmer longevity as well. Strange to think he
might be one day a distant memory, like someone glimpsed in childhood.

The Mage Guild had actually been re-located to a new building several months

mute distain.

cherry picking expedition in Cyrodiil. It was a fabulous break from slaying
infidels, but to complete her break fully, she would visit the bazzar's of

to the Grand Bazzar, finding a tavern, and ordering a water. She sat back and
took in the humid air

Slashes-With-Claws was becoming slightly boored with the routime
of his duties, everything was going smoothly in Ald raathim, he had not had a
battle in some time.
Remembering the arena Slashes went there, and after a bit of talking with the
arena master got himself a fight scheduled. It would be unarmored, Slashes
would have claws only, his enemy daggers.
The time of the fight came, he left his armor in his quarters and made his way
to the arena. His opponent was a Nord, he wore no armor as the rules for this
fight called for, and held a dagger in each hand. Slashes stood in a half crouch,
arms srpead, claws ready, tail out for balance.
The battle started, the Nord attacked immediately. Slashes ducked and brought
his right hand across the nords leg, drawing first blood. Slashes dodged to the
side, just avoiding a down swing by the Nord. Slashes waited for the Nord to
attack again, the Nord lunged, slashes dodged to the side, raking his claws
across the nords side. The Nord was furious now, he lunged again, burt as
Slashes dodged the Nord dodged too. the nord scored across Slashes' chest.
Slashes kicked the Nord as he backed off, tearing several rents in his chest,
the Nord fell, beaten. Healers quickly got to work on both contestants.
The Nord congradulated Slashes on his skill. Slashes felt great, he went to the
tavern for a drink.

Kragenmoor, Morrowind
From the tower above, one could see the entire city. The walls were still
damaged from the siege, but his troops were overlooking reconstruction of the
walls by slaves retrieved from the Dres Slavehouse. Even once they had finished
this wall, they could sell the slaves, Councilor Indoril Faryon, smiled at
this. He was taller than most of his fellow dunmer, due to his privelaged
upbringing, yet showed his age with a narrow grey beard on his ashen face. He
was covered in scarlet robes, yet under them could be seen the outline of
armour, which he wore under this robe. At his side was a large Daikatana. A
houseman walked up to him, 'Blessed be the three, we have recieved word that
somthing big is going to happen soon in Hesleth's court'
'It does not matter to us, Falos, we are fighting the tyranny of that outlander
fiend that dares calls himself "King", we are not under his rule, I
pitty those who are' he serveyed the city once more before sweeping back into
the castle, Falos followed him, 'what else do your spys have to report?' Faryon
stated
'The pirate Falco has been executed at Mournhold' Falos replied
'A shame, go and get a situation report on the walls, and tell Nibarr to see me
when she gets in, I wish to know what the state of the captured plantations'
Falos paused as he reached the door, 'Nibarr sent word that she has been
delayed for some time at the Maloren Plantation, a problem of some sort,'
A look of worry came across Faryon's face, 'Send out a small group of soldiers
to the plantation, I do not want my daugter harmed'
'No need to worry, my lord, it seems it is only an innacuracy in the books that
Maloren had kept. They are going over them as we speak,'
Faryon's eyes narrowed anyway, 'send some troops just in case, I have a bad
feeling about this' he clapped his hand, as a slave walked in with a bottle of
Imperial Flin and a glass, as Falos bowed and left the room. He checked the
seal of the bottle to find it intact, then dismissed the slave, sitting back to
read one of the many theology books that he had brought with him as the fire
before him roared

Shaka looked at her with concern, hearing something in Anya's voice. "It's
far from an ideal situation, Anya, but that's the way of the world. At least
there won't be any more families broken up and sold down the river like
yours."
"We're at the end of an Era, but we knew that already. We'll make it

Dres Nimrirgael Zael, looking frustrated and worried, joined the group. "I
can give you a ride back to Ald Raathim, but we'd have to leave now ... I have
a lot to do in 48 hours, and, particularly if I'm bring you back, over 24 hours
of that will taken with travel ... I'm happy to do it, of course, but you might
find the Guild Guide at the Mages Guild a faster means of transportation."

"nobles" caring about themselves. They wouldn't have to worry about

people less than even property. What the hell is so noble about them
anyway?"
"I just want to go home and actually help the people that deserve
it."

"Dres Zael, as far as I'm concerned the Mages Guild transport is fine, but
I'll wait for Dres Loranna's word."
"Anya, the nobles are like all of us: born into a world they didn't make.
A lot of them probably have unquiet consciences over the system they grew up
in, with the noblewomen forced to maneuver and marry into other noble families,
then live in a gilded cage; and the noblemen forced into roles as lord and
master that maybe they're not always happy with either."
"A lot of people just want their time in the sun, like everyone else.

that's taking shape."

Shaka looked down for a moment at Anya's words. "You're right, Anya, I
don't know what it was like for you, powerless for years of your life until
Vondicus freed you and made you a warrior. . . . All I can add is that I've
never had power either; always had to sing for my supper, in a way."
"At any rate, the nobles are in the same boat with us, and we've got to
learn how to live together." Shaka was starting to feel the inadequacy of
his words, and fell silent before the Bosmer.

Diamond said gently, "Mine was a cage of gold, and yours of fire, but we
were both captive."
She was immediately reminded of the bard Arynel when she said this, though she
was perhaps not as eloquent..

Fourteen Months Ago: the Blue Dawn
The former Dren plantation had struggled along under the control of ex-slaves
and former hired hands. The late Duke had been a real piece of work, all
agreed; slaver, drug smuggler, in bed with the Sixth House. When the
Nerevarine, whoever she or he had been, came through and finally cleaned house,
the plantation workers had barricaded themselves in their shacks.
When they emerged, they found the only survivors were a few thieves in nearby
huts, for whatever reason. But the late Duke's brother seemed in no hurry to
claim the property, and the ex-slaves and hands had a valuable resource to
maintain: the bloodlines of the Dren netches.
A few years passed, and then the world went mad. The netchimen, as some now
called themselves, heard that all Vvardenfell was forced to choose between
being Azura's chattel or dead. The Ascadian Isles plantations were falling as
well, and it was time to run.
An Argonian among the ex-slaves gave them the means. He spent his days fishing
in Lake Amaya in a reed boat that he had built from childhood memories.
------------------------------------------------------------------
The bull and betty netches flew south in a loose V-formation. The refugees
crouched in wicker baskets slung by nets from bulls. The tools of their trade
and the clothes on their backs were all they could carry with them, in the end.
But they made it out of Vvardenfell just ahead of the ravening Azurite hordes.
Fourteen months later, Shaka was walking in the woods near his yurt when he saw
with delight a netch in the distance; the first he had seen since himself
journeying to Daruhn. He followed it back to its home, and learned for the
first time the Dren refugees' story.

Diamond didn't react. As much as she rejected her roots, she was still a
noblewoman by birth and upbringing. Anya had suffered, certainly, but she was
now acting like a little girl, wallowing in blind self-pity, sticking her
fingers in her ears and screaming "I can't hear you!" through her
tears.
She looked sadly at Shaka, and then left herself.

"Like a scrib," said Marein, not looking up, "trod under the

Seeing who was there, he said, "Hey, Tel, old girl! It's been a while,

ago. What have you been up to?"

“Old girl?” Telera laughed. “I don’t think I qualify for that under any
definition of the word. I’ve been doing well, or so I let myself believe
anyway.
"Mostly sneaking off with Anya and spending days with her and Shaka in his
garden. Of course, I’ve been training myself up on magic and practicing martial
forms too. I’ll be prepared for any fighting that might come my way. Managed to
gamble your money away yet?”

The Mage Guild was in the same area as the palace's reception hall, which made
availing oneself of their services very convenient; Loranna wasted little time
in taking advantage of this, once everyone was rounded up.
Back at Ald Raathin, she called for Kallen and Kethiah, to inform them of the
upcoming announcement, and the other developments that had taken place at the
meeting.

It's interesting to note that this is exactly what Shai has been doing many
miles away.
"No, my money's still safe," said Marein. "In fact, I haven't
had a good wager in some time. How about...two thousand septims on a fight?"

but it occurred to him that Tel was now a girl. That kind of fight would have
to wait, in order to stay away from awkward situations.
