The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses
Posted by: Stargazey Nov 11 2005, 05:39 PM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
===
Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it. Also, read
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as
possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.
To help you get up to speed, here is
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html told from my character Loranna's
perspective. This summary doesn't cover everything but it sums up some of the
bigger events our campaign has covered. Note: I will probably update and edit
this summary as time goes on.
===
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are
encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for
some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is
not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there
for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!
===
IMPORTANT: WE HAVE JUMPED SIX MONTHS INTO THE FUTURE; IT IS NOW RAIN'S
HAND/SECOND SEED IN THE RP (i.e., April/May)

ooc: Isidor is walking with Kethiah to the banquet.
Tyradil and Tilitalia are going, as is Ingmar. But, they'll arrive later.
Tsei is in no mood for banquets. She's sleeping.

Summary:
Serath Reil is in the tavern having a comberry juice, while waiting for the
hour of the banquet. He still hasnt spoken with Master Nalion about his place
at the School.

OOC Summary: Vaan is in Mournhold, making some last minute
arrangements concerning protection at the summit.
Posted by: Loranna Nov 11 2005, 05:46 PM
Summary for Loranna: Loranna has recently taken on Tsei as her
apprentice, and has been brewing up all sorts of delightful concoctions to aid
in training the Argonian in her new role as party healer. True to her heritage,
Loranna is a firm believer in the necessity of beverages for educational
purposes
More recently, she has been told that the Royal Family wishes her and her
closest advisors to attend a summit in Mournhold; she is about to attend the
banquet being held for the diplomats who brought her this news.

Summary
Dres Nimrirgael Zael, ambassador from King Helseth's court, is finishing
cleaning and dressing at the castle of Daruhn, getting ready for the banquet.
Not the most gregarious of people, he is waiting for Loranna to put together
her group of advisors for a meeting with the King in Mournhold.
Kethiah, ex-assassin, co-proprietor of the Nymph and Noggin, and (secretly)
Loranna's Spymaster, is on her way to the banquet.
Gorathir, Prince of Firsthold, is still undercover in Vvardenfell,
investigating the false Tribunal.

OOC Summary
Ondave, male Dunmer swordsman, is currently practicing his skill with a blade
back in his cave on Vvardenfell.
Eats-With-Claws, male argonian warrior, is currently sulking in his dingy
little rented room in Ald Raathim.

Loranna looks herself over in the mirror, nodding her approval
of her appearance for the evening's banquet. For the night she had elected to
dress in one of her fancier dresses, red and gold with silver trim, done in the
style currently in vogue in Mournhold, her hair braided and looped in courtly
style by a servant. Silver and ebony jewelry round out her apparel, and she
smiles, feeling pretty.
It was time to head down; Loranna leaves her room and makes her way to the
dining hall, enticed by the smell of Razbiah's and Thianas's efforts.

Summary: Shaka, an Argonian battlemage, is preparing for the
banquet.
Good thing I kept some formal clothes with Anya, thought Shaka as he finished
dressing. He wore the same suit as for Lyssia's wedding; black tunic and
trousers, dark green coat with gold at the collar.
Shaka left his armor and the Spear in Anya's guestroom and went to check on the
banquet's time.

The Dining Hall
As it was a smaller banquet than the one for Barenziah, Kallen elected to serve
it in the castle dining hall. The table was set up like a T, with Loranna and
Dres Nimrirgael Zael near the intersection, so that everyone was pretty close
together.
At the center of the table was a stone circle with a low white magickal flame.
It was slowly cooking Thianas's cake, which over the course of the meal, was to
rise to an etherial cloud-like consistency as the diners watched.

OOC Summary
Reichi is getting ready for the banquet, after having a spirited argument in
the Nymph and Noggin about the Butcher of the Bay - Falco.
---
Reichi dressed in a simply black robe, with designs of golden flames running up
the bottom of the sleeves, the back of the robe, and along the bottom of the
robe. The collar of the robe was also golden colored. Under if, he put on a
pair of darkly colored pants, and some boots of a similar coloration. He really
didn't like the draft of having nothing under his robe. Reichi of course did
nothing with his unruly hairstyle, and left his weapons in his room at the
castle, along with his armor.
Posted by: Ordie Nov 11 2005, 06:20 PM
Serath got up - it was time. He watched the robe he had dressed:
not the latest fashion trend, but then again, fashion is not expected of a
scholar. At least it looked formal. It was black, with the sleeves of a dark
blue. He had also put on a ring with the signet of Julianos, to identify him as
a servant of the Wise God. He hasted - he was late, and he surely didn't want
to be late for the banquet.
Posted by: Stargazey Nov 11 2005, 06:28 PM
Isidor was wearing a sky blue shirt, and white pants, covered
with a black cloak, as him and Kethiah entered the dining hall for the banquet.

Summary
When Dane heard news of a banquet, he was quite eager to attend. He really felt
not to stand out; even if he would when the moment they got there. So he
acquired some very exquisite and formal clothing from the Clothier down the
street and took a bath for the first time in who knows sake.

Anya tugged at her dress, sjust below the bust line, trying to straigten it
out. Mumbling all the while about her dress, she followed Shaka.
Her dress was dark blue, coming up to her chest, with embroidery of the same
color around the edges. It didn't have any straps, leaving her tan shoulders
exposed. Tight around her body showing off her lithe body, flowing to her
ankles, she still wasn't used to wearing formal wear. She never had to until
she moved here. Around her thigh, she wore a hidden dagger, never able to bring
herself to go anywhere unarmed.

Summary:
Trason is dressed casually, at the banquet.
Posted by: Slashes-With-Claws Nov 11 2005, 06:47 PM
Slashes had been busy preparing for the banquet. He had heard
that it was a formal occasion and to dress properly. He did not own any formal
clothes of his own, but paid the local clothier to borrow a set for the night.
Additionally he went to a jeweler and paid for the use of colored glass beads
for the night. He had spent the next few hours cleaning himself and preparing.
He used a special mixture on his scales, making them shine. The beads he
temporarily glued to the back of his hands in decorative patterns. He took no
weapons, his claws would be enough if there was trouble, but he expected none.
Slashes made his way to the castle.

Anya smiled, "Thank you. You're looking quite dashing yourself, my
dear."
She gave another once-over on her dress, "Though maybe the dress shows off
too much. I really shouldn't draw too much attention to myself like this."

Dres Nimrirgael Zael looked less green than he had been after
his voyage, and he introduced himself to each of the guests as they arrived,
smiling as if he were enjoying himself. He seemed particularly to enjoy meeting
the attractive women of Loranna's acquaintanceship, and lavished praise on the
Lady of Ald Raathim's own dress and appearance.
"I was here once, long ago," he said. "During the time of Lord
Raithmat. I think he would approve of the way you've improved his old
place."
Posted by: Ordie Nov 11 2005, 06:57 PM
Serath was hurrying through the streets of Ald Raathim, but it
seemed like he wasn't late - there were quite a few people dressed handsomely
heading towards the castle. One of them was his friend Slashes-With-Claws.
"Wow, aren't we handsome today" - Serath said with a grin - "I
was starting to think you never took that armour off; the scales also seem nice,
trying to gain some young argonian's heart?" Taking off the joking face,
he added - "Do you think we're late? We'd better not to: I wanted to see
if I could get a seat next to Master Nalion, and I doubt I'll be able to do
that if the banquet already started."

The scars on Loranna's chest ache as she thinks back to Raithmat's ghost;
hideous and leering when he first showed up and could not be touched by sword
or spell, petulant and demanding when his strength was taken from him and he
could no longer terrorize anyone. And always, ever-lasting hatred for the
outlander harlot who seduced his detested son and destroyed the ancient
traditions of House Dres.
"I'm sure he'd be intrigued to see how the castle and town has grown,
yes," she says diplomatically, a polite smile on her face. "You look
much more rested, my Lord; I hope you brought your appetite with you
today." Her smile widens a bit, showing her own anticipation of tearing
into that cake.

"Don't worry about it. It's kind of nice to have a reason to dress up,
sometimes. And it's too late to worry about drawing attention, when you have a
golden-haired, green-eyed woodelf to start with." Shaka smiled at her as
they mingled with the crowd before dinner.
"Dres Loranna, you look beautiful as well, tonight," said Shaka when
he saw the Lady.

must say that this Banquet you are holding is something of the like of which I

Also, aside from the town's glories, it is also an honour to be in the presence
of the famous Lady Loranna, whose deed's fame reaches across all of
Morrowind."

Be polite about pointing out that Thianas is not a slave anymore and than
Ald Raathim doesn't use slavery, Loranna reminds herself before opening her

Zael nods as the roast fowl and slaughterfish are brought out. The fowl is
crusted with layer after layer of finely shredded herbs, arranged like feathers
across it, and the slaughterfish is similarly set but with fine slices of bulb
herbs, so it seems to still have its silvery scales. The smell is rich and
savory.
Despite the seeming exuberance of spices in the two dishes, Razbiah has not
gone entirely over to her husband's will. The food, while delicious, is not
over spiced. Browning the herbs before setting them makes the smell stronger
but the spice milder.

Tyradil and Tilitalia arrived, in matching blue outfits, smiling broadly. They
took their seats, and chatted amongst themselves.

Still, the contents of those letters mainly consist of them wanting me to return to their side of the war, and me refusing, so I can't really say much..." - he seemed hesitant - "I trust that what I said here to you will stay with you, won't it sera?"
"Most spies generally don't make a point of announcing themselves as part
of the opposing side," Loranna says with a bit of a smile. "This will
stay here, though I might suggest letting Master Nalion know when you meet him;
he's a good man you can trust."
Her eyes turn to the banquet table, and she asks " ... Shall we help
ourselves? serjo?" Her expression returns to a more relaxed, happy state.

Happy by Lady Loranna's reacion, absent of intolerance, Serath said, quite
cheerfuly "Sure, after all, I doubt your cooks went through over all this
to have us stand here chatting and only *staring* at the food." He then

Loranna chuckles, shaking her head with a bemused grin; she mutters
"Everyone wants to overload the fish with spices," as she takes a
bite of the seafood. Having grown accustomed to Razbiah's cooking, the fish
tasted rather spiced to Loranna anyway, though she does wonder what it would
taste like if the spice was a little stronger.
She wonders also about the new teacher at Ald Raathim's school; Loranna didn't
have any sense that he meant ill, so his heritage shouldn't matter - but she
wasn't always the best judge of character, and didn't know his parents at all.
It'd be just her luck that Serath's parents would try something foolish to get
him back, much like she expected Diamond's parents to try any day now.
There wa salso the matter of who to take to the summit come the morrow; Loranna
ws used to talking with her friends over dinner about such matters, but Zael
had said it was top secret; she'd wait and see if he brought the issue up
first, and quietly approach her firends about it after dinner ... unless
someone else brought the topic up somehow first.

A few updates which I've been putting off:
Because Count Sternhart's not around to set up with Diamond, the Lord Aristos
and Lady Nobella have returned to High Rock; why? Because they are no longer
scouring the land for their daughter. When it is time for them to return, the
Mage's Guild will do nicely.
Shai is still following that intense schedule though she hasn't seen the Nord
guy in a while. She is pretty good at levitating and some conjuration by now.

Molag Mar
Kratos walked the lower canton, on his way to the docks. The destruction was
slowly being repaired with good progress. The first wall was patched and
re-masoned and the fallen were taken care of. Everything was under control now.
The prisoners were loaded onto Kratos' ship and Ivelaes hopped aboard. They
were destined to Mournhold, to deliver the prisoners of war into the King's
custody. He could deal with them as he pleased but the small cells in Molag Mar
couldn't hold them all and they needed to make space.
Kratos had left his most able commander in charge to make sure nothing happened
while he was absent. He was ordered to immediately get word to the Grandmaster
if the enemy were spotted or even thinking about attacking.
The Muatramer packed the provisions they would need and weighed anchor. The
sail was unfurled and the wind filled it as the ship began to coast over the
waves. They picked up speed and headed south around the coast to Mournhold.

Ah, Mournhold. City of Light, City of Magic.
and now, thought Reed-Saloat, city of shipwrecked bookkeepers.
The city had certainly grown since he had last been here. The new buildings
sprung up around the city he remembered as a child was a confusing maze of
crowded streets and narrow alleys not quite illuminated by the glow of the
street lamps, but once he got inside the walls, it was like walking down the
streets of his memories. He was content just watching the city, until he
realized he had to hurry. Dragging his chest of water stained books, he hurried
to his destination.
The library was exactly as he remembered it, the giant emerald building still
seemed larger than life, the inside still had that delicious scent of binding
and paper. Only the librarian was different. Where once a stern-faced dunmer
had sat looking down at him, he was looking down upon a kindly old Breton.
He told her his name and what he was doing here five minutes before closing.
Thankfully for him, a shelver had quit just that morning, and Reeds-Saloat got
the job. He would have thanked the Nine Divines if he wasn't a doubter. But as
he drifted to sleep in the worker's apartment, he couldn't help thinking that
this was a bit too convenient.

to think of Helseth ... Aside from the fact that he is powerful, and weilds his
power in a way that serves himself best, I don't really know much about
him."

"I'm still curious what Helseth plans to discuss," she says.

not how argonians prefered it, was very tasty. The conversation and compnay had
been most delightful too. He had asked if there were any drinks imported from

When Loranna had requested people to acompany her to Mournhold he had declined.

Instead, pointedly avoiding Ald Raathim, she had moved gradually to Mournhold.
After her usual routine of physical and magical rigors, Shai went down into

As he moved through the shelves, whittling away the stack of books he was

afraid what I need you can't provide," said Shai. "It would be
against Guild-related codes. I should probably check with the Mage's Guild. I'm
sure these will provide for interesting reading, though - thanks for all of
your help."
Remember, make conversation, be friendly, all that...
"So you're looking weary, like a traveler. Where are you here from?"
"Well," Reeds began, "I just sort've blew in here on a storm. I
left Bruma about a month ago to see the world, but my ship wrecked in a gale
about three days north of here. Right now, I'm just trying to get enough cash
to keep from begging."
"But," Reeds sanpped out of his reminiscing, "you don't want to
hear my life story, you need to find books on magic. I wouldn't even bother
with the local guild, their library is worse than ours is. What you need to
check are private collections, nobles, enchanters, apothecaries, places like
that."

Still almost forcing the conversation, Shai said "No,
no...tell me more. Maybe I can help."
"On second thought, though, I would like to eat some pie. Want to
come?"

"Well," Reeds replied, sitting at a desk, "I made it out alive,
which is more than I can say for everyone else. I washed up near Blacklight
with only the clothes on my back and a single peice of my luggage, a trunk of
my books. I had been to Vvardenfell only one other time, and that was an
apprenticeship here in Mournhold nine years ago. I had no one else, so I made
my way down here, hitchhiking, doing odd jobs, the like. Unfortunately, my
friends have either died or are long gone. The only one that I even have an
idea of where he is would be somewhere in Morrowind. And, obviously, that's out
of the question."

in the waters near the castle; she igured she had best get all her swimming in
for the week now while she had a chance.
She pauses long enough on her way back to think to herself Time to go and
see what surprises our King has in store. I'm worried that I don't feel quite

Then, she re-enteres the castle, her things already prepared and set to go. A short

His gear bag slung over his shoulder, assorted armor repaired, and Spear
sheathed in its fringed leather case, Shaka raised a hand in greeting as he
neared the ship. "Hail, Loranna."
It looked to be fair sailing weather. Smaller, distant cousins of cliffracers
wheeled over the harbor and dove, rising with fish in their beaks.

Loranna smiles at Kallen. "I will," she promises. "Besides,
Dram's with me."
The Dunmer guard nods briefly to Kallen, exchanging a glance that had become more
common over the recent months - the glance of a faithful employee who expects
his employer is going to get into trouble no matter what.
Missing - or else simply ignoring - Dram's glance, Loranna turns to Shaka.
"Hail Shaka; looks to be a fine day for a boat trip," she says, as
the others board and the ship sets off.
Kallen's words stay in the back of Loranna's mind though, as she watches Ald

Mournhold
The gray lady was bathed in the lights of dawn. It had taken a full day to go
from Ald Raathim to Mournhold, and the new day was just beginning.
On the docks, it was much like Ald Raathim on a grand scale. Instead of a few
dozen fishermen readying themselves for the day, it was a few hundred. Instead
of one large tavern off the docks, there were ten.
A group of figures were standing at the wharf as the ships arrived. Their gray
cloaks of House Dres were immediately apparent. Then Loranna recognized Dres
Minsero, looking much older and more tired than she had remembered him, though
admittedly it was early for anyone to be awake.
He raised a hand in greeting as the ship came into port.

He raised a hand in greeting as the ship came into port.
Loranna waves back in greeting as the ship settles into port, hiding her
surprise at how Lord Minsero had aged in the year since she first met him. Was
it the war, or was it simply the early hour that made him look so old and
careworn?
She remembers his final words to her before leaving, back on Early Harvest; she
remembers too the brief mention Barenziah made of him when the Queen Mother
came seeking Loranna's support, and the gut feelings she had had then about
Minsero and his arrangements with Barenziah. How the face of Morrowind must
look to his old eyes ...
Stepping onto the dock, she smiles to the aged Dunmer and says "Greetings,
my Lord; it is a pleasure to see you again." And it was, for deep down she
did like Minsero, and was eternally grateful to him for introducing her to
Thianas, which made her happy both for the food and for the joy his presence
brought Razbiah.

Minsero's red eyes opened at the sight of all the others Loranna had brought
with her. "Did you bring the entire population of Ald Raathim? B'Vek, Dres

Anya shook her head, never one to talk much herself, though she kept her ears
perked out of habit. After making sure she knew how to quickly get back to the
palace, and knew when she was needed, Anya set off. She wasn't here to talk at

A city this vibrant carried many, many shops. Some catered to the poor, some to
those so rich all they could do with the extra money was flaunt it to others.
Though she had many cautious stares, and heard a few snatches of

continued to eye their wares for the valuables, unfettered.

Trason unpacked his things and layed them across his bedsheet on the floor of
the room. He would fully unpack later. He was so distracted by the city! It was
one of the most magnificent sites he has ever seen! The magic almost
illuminates from every person to every building to every plant! It was just
pure beauty at its best. It would be awhile before the Lady and the rest of the
party approached Helseth, so Trason decided to head to this dining hall and see
how they cook in Mournhold.
Soon enough he was in heaven...

Slashes-With-Claws was busy with his normal duties in Ald
Raathim. He had had a small desire to see Mournhold, but his reasons not to go
were much larger then his desire to go.
There was one reason he had told no one, not even Lady Loranna. He was slightly
worried that if he had gone to Mournhold someone who was suspicious of
Argonians traveling with Loranna, after the whole Butcher of the Inner Sea
incident, might decide to look into his past. Slashes was worried that someone
might discover that he was a runaway slave who had murdered his master and
three of the guards that worked for him. He was sure that not only would he
die, but also the lady would be disgraced. Whether his fears had any merit or
not is something else entirely.

Loranna and her companions were brought to the map room they had passed earlier

The King, his advisors, and a group of about twenty other nobles were present.

Compared to their first meeting, it was a marked improvement.
Helseth had never really struck Loranna as the sort for friendly bantering,

So, she chooses her next words to be polite and direct: "How does this day

He was walking down through the aisles of desks to see if someone left it there
when he noticed it in the hands of a Dunmer sitting at a desk. A desk at which

In fact, Thought Reeds, that looks awfully like...

you, but we can discuss the proper location later."

Anya
idlely rolled a coin over her fingers. She had a hard time just chatting with
nobles, royalty and the like, never finding much in common.
Lightly tapping her boot, she waited until she might be needed. The coin
slipped, but she deftly caught it with her left hand and continued rolling it
over her fingers, her ears open to the conversations.
Noticing that Helseth seemed focused on talking to Loranna, Shaka gave Anya the
thumbs-up for her walking the coin across her knuckles. Then he slipped a
surprise around her neck: a golden torc with jade dragon's heads that he had
bought in the market earlier that day.
"I bought one for Telera also," he said to her under his breath.
Shaka heard Helseth mention a future Imperial fort for Ald Raathim, and it
turned his mood more serious. I shouldn't be surprised, after the town got its
cathedrals; but it brings home to me how much we're linked to the Imperials, he
thought.

Loranna feels her eyebrows rise slightly, but she says with a smile "Of
course Your Majesty; at your convenience."
Loranna's mind was working; Helseth seemed to want to laud Ald Raathim's
success at the summit, while downplaying the role Barenziah played in helping
said success. Loranna wonders what arrangements the various nobles present
today made with the Queen Mother, back when Helseth was deathly ill.
What's he got up his sleeve, she asks herself, as she continues "Is
there anything else we should discuss now, Your Majesty?"

She did not have to wait long. In a few minutes, Tienius Delitian walked across
the floor at his touch the mosaic of Morrowind rose up. On the other side was
the cavernous throne room. Comfortable chairs and desks had been placed in a
circle around the throne, with the flags of fifteen different territories.
"Please take your seats," the security minister said to the group.

I'll just have to wait and see, she tells herself as she makes herself
comfortable, glancing around the hall.

Kratos and Ivelaes took their seats in the Vvardenfell section of the desks and

the Temple in one form or another.
They removed their bronze helms and set them on the desk in respect for His

Diamond sat down as well, a little bit apprehensive surrounded
by so many Dunmer in a summit for Dunmer affairs.
The circlet she had worn since coming to Ald Raathim lay now at her side; it
seemed like a very obnoxious and antagonistic thing to wear in front of King
Helseth. Instead she was in simple but formal dress which was neither too
casual for the audience of a king nor so grand as to outshine him.
She watched with interest.

The Throne Room of Castle Mournhold
"Please close and bar the doors," Helseth said to his guards as he
took his seat on his throne, prompting an uncomfortable murmur from those
assembled.
OOC -- If you're not online and want to say you're present at this meeting,
that's fine, but no one will be permitted into the throne room once the doors
are closed.
"This is not a meeting of all my allies," Helseth began. "Only
those most important for various reasons at this juncture. As you know, I am
not a slave of tradition. I respect it when it has a purpose beyond itself.
When I saw that the struggle of the Houses was hurting the overall integrity of
the kingdom, I sought to change that. There is another tradition of Morrowind
which perhaps served its purpose in the past, but is now doing more harm than
good. It is right, strategically and morally, to discuss it now. So there is no
doubt: I am not interested in a debate. My mind is made up on this matter. It
is only up to discussion how to best proceed forward."
The crowd looked to one another, trying to understand what the King was talking
about.
"The topic for discussion is how we shall implement the abolition of
slavery in Morrowind," Helseth said, looking to his allies, with fierce,
purposeful eyes.

Remaining impassive came naturally to an Argonian, but Shaka hadn't been
expecting this. Being one of the few People of the Root present seemed fitting
all of a sudden; a shame that the Khajiit weren't represented as well.
At the same time, he was a little anxious over Helseth's having recognized him.
My own fault for travelling here, he thought; yet perhaps it was all water over
the dam by now. After all, Almalexia was several years dead and the Temple in
Mournhold was reorganizing under Allerleirauh as a New Temple . . . .

"Your Majesty," a tall, aristocratic elderly Dres noblewoman stood
up, trembling with emotion. "Please reconsider. Our lands have already
been torn asunder by this war. To crush now what is our economic system will
annihiliate us."
"It would if you were not forewarned," Helseth acknowledged.
"There is no better time to do it than now. You will need to rebuild
yourself anyhow. And the Indoril who are holding your land, and using your
slaves will be the ones faced with a sudden rebellion on their hands, while
you, who have been forewarned, will prepare for such an eventuality."
There were still many murmurs in the audience. Hardly anyone seemed happy by
this.

said, gesturing towards Loranna and her group. "In the days of Raithmat,

"In fact," said Diamond timidly, looking at the other
nobles and avoiding Helseth's eyes, "one might suggest that we begin by
pledging freedom to those slaves who are not under our control. In that
case, as His Majesty seems to be suggesting, we would first instigate revolt in
lands now under the Indoril; after their economic systems collapse we
can expand the abolition from the recovered lands."
"I'm not entirely sure in what direction I am taking this, and I surely
speak only for myself and not all of Ald Raathim, but I would like you all to
remember my basic proposition: to promise freedom to slaves we do not
control."
Realizing that nobody was listening, Diamond shelved her ideas for now to
