The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses
Posted by: Loranna Oct 26 2005, 01:24 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
===
Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it Also,
read http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as
possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.
To help you get up to speed, here is
http://www.tc.umn.edu/~rhod0091/lrp/temp.html told from my character Loranna's
perspective. This summary doesn't cover everything but it sums up some of the
bigger events our campaign has covered. Note: I will probably update and edit
this summary as time goes on.
===
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are
encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for
some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is
not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there
for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

IMPORTANT: WE HAVE JUMPED SIX MONTHS INTO THE FUTURE; IT IS NOW

Summary for Loranna: Loranna has spoken with Dragon and Kethiah about measures
to protect the children and citizens of Ald Raathim, learned of the identity of
the Butcher of the Bay from Goranthir, was catching up with Tris who she has
not seen in many months, and most recently is speaking with the Khajiit Alas
and Alack in the Nymph and Noggin, finding herself taken by their bleeding
charm.

ooc. Maranda is sitting around Ald Raatham, doing nothing in
paticular... (do feel free to aproch her or somthing ) An evil Lich, on
the other hand, is preparing for visitors

ooc summaries:
Allerleirauh is with Goranthir in an upstairs room at the Nymph, after
discussing Helseth's suggestion that Goranthir go undercover in Vvardenfell to
discover who is impersonating ALMSIVI.
Dragon made a brief stop in Hla Oad, but he's in his offices now.
Tris Gaerington is... well.
QUOTE(S'reddit @ Oct 26 2005, 01:06 AM)
Alas
smiled. He had beautiful teeth. "Well, if it's privacy your
after, Tris Gaerington of Wayrest, we could always --"
"Nuh uh," Alack interrupted him.
"Not enough flirty flirty yet?" Alas sighed. "I never
know."
QUOTE(Loranna @ Oct 26 2005, 01:07 AM)
Loranna holds out her hand. "Dres Loranna Pyrel of Ald Raathim," she says. "A pleasure."
QUOTE(S'reddit @ Oct 26 2005, 01:08 AM)
The
two Khajiit looked at her, and then one another.
"Naw," said Alack, his smile uncertain. "You're havin' us on
..."
"Please tell us you're havin' us on," added Alas more seriously.
"Doesn't take much flirty, really," Tris said. "And there's the
House of Dibella in town, if you can't be bothered flirting. Her Ladyship of Daruhn
isn't having you on at all. I am, a little... you see I've only told you half
my name. But it seemed fair, since you've only told us half yours, if
that."
He smiled.

Summary
Goranthir, Prince of Firsthold, is in his room at the Nymph and Noggin.
Allerleirauh is with him, having discussed with him the idea of him going
undercover to discover what is behind the false Tribunal sightings in
Vvardenfell. What's odd is that he's only just gotten the assignment, but she's
already debriefing him.
Kethiah is meeting upstairs with Ya’Tirrje, a.k.a. Goldcat, a notorious
smuggler, and the Spymaster's best informant.
Goldcat's two sidekicks, Alas and Alack, are flirting in the bar with Tris and
Loranna. They've just been given the unpleasant news that the
"lassie" is the Lady of Ald Raathim.

He smiled.
"Tris speaks the truth," Loranna says, offering the two Khajiit a
smile of her own. "Though you've offered us very charming names, and
anyone who tells this man here how he really looks in candlelight can't be all
bad."
She winks, then adds to Tris "Though you'll always look handsome in any
light to your friends, hun."

Alack stumbled to his feet. Alas tried as well, and fell over in his chair.
"We meant no disrespect to you, my Lady," Alack said nervously.
"Or you either, my good ... lord ..."
Goldcat and Kethiah stepped down the stairs. Ya’Tirrje smiled as she looked at
her boys.

Shaka studied the three doors standing before them. They could also try
continuing down the passage, but he was tired of stealth and battling skeletal
minions . . . .

As our three intrepid adventurers open the centre door, what do they find?
Find out, NOW
As the three of them pushed open the door, they saw a room, an altar on the far
side, and four skeleton warriors standing in a row. A Dark Robed figure was
sitting at an alchemy table and it was he who spoke, 'Greetings, Shaka, Telera,
or should I say Teleran? And Anya, is it? I am quite surprised you managed to
get this far so fast. I was at least wanting you to encounter more of my
wonderful surprises I keep within my castle' the Dark Robed figure turned from
the table, his face darkened by the shadow of the hood, the skeletons moved to
attack, but the robed man raised his hand to stop them, 'I am Manavrio, and you
have intruded within my castle to retrieve the skull of corruption, have you
not?' A gloved hand could be seen, the skull within its grasp, 'Tell me, why
are you here, oh, I know the Dibellians sent you, but why did you do thier
bidding, young shaka?'

weeks."

Shaka was stunned into silence. Was that what he was? Vain?
And he might not have to fight any more today, to win the prize. He glanced at
his loves, silent and pale themselves.
Yet still they stood at his side.
It was one of the harder decisions he had had to make, and a snap decision at
that. He didn't even know if the Dibellans could come through for him. And the
lich before him radiated power, he might well be telling the truth.
"Good fruit can't come from a poisoned tree. . . . . You chose an
unnatural path, Manavrio. The world doesn't owe me anything, except a
death."

I want to see this dealt with too, Loranna thinks, her thoughts plain, but
...
"We should let the others know, and let those who wish to go
volunteer," she says. "Isidor's already said he intended to go;
Dragon said he was going to talk to Falco's father, who knows what he might
wish ..."

Telera seethed, “Shaka, how dare you compare yourself to this thing. It’s worse
than calling yourself an animal. It. Is. Not. Like. You. In any way.
"You can’t seriously consider going along with anything this thing
suggests? Just look at where this thing makes its home! It’s not right, it’s
not smart, it’s vile, it’s, it’s…”
She ended, “It’s a bleeding lich and it kills little puppies!”
‘I wish the lich could be bleeding,’ the
dagger added its two cents.

Shaka
was stunned into silence. Was that what he was? Vain?
And he might not have to fight any more today, to win the prize. He
glanced at his loves, silent and pale themselves.
Yet still they stood at his side.
It was one of the harder decisions he had had to make, and a snap decision at
that. He didn't even know if the Dibellans could come through for
him. And the lich before him radiated power, he might well be telling the
truth.
"Good fruit can't come from a poisoned tree. . . . . You chose an
unnatural path, Manavrio. The world doesn't owe me anything, except a
death."
"I choose life in the end. Even if it's a scaled parody of
human."

Telera
seethed, “Shaka, how dare you compare yourself to this thing. It’s worse than
calling yourself an animal. It. Is. Not. Like. You.
'(sigh) Did you ever wonder how I knew you were coming? Did you ever realise
how easy it was to get here? Did you not think that if you turned down my
generous offer I would not have something to face you with?' His hand passed
over the skull, and three exact duplicates, from clothes to weapons stood
before our three heroes, duplicates that moved to attack, 'NO, not yet!' the
duplicates backed off, 'if it is death you want, then death you shall receive,
but I shall ask you once more. I have prepared this potion for you. Its a
polymorph potion that will turn you into a redguard,' he gestured to the
potion, 'permanent, and beside it is the cure, it will turn you back into your
other self.
'These potions, however, only have one serve... I am giving you this as a gift,
a payment that you will leave me be. I do not want to fight, and I am not
asking you to go get yourself killed for a simple polymorph, like the temple of
Dibella, I am offering you a solution to your problem. If you wish to throw
your life away with these idiotic assumptions of "good" and

As the lich probably knew he would, Shaka felt a growing anger and confusion.
He looked at his mirror image and was disgusted; the pettiness, the self-centeredness.
Truly this was some evil duplicate - - and then it hit him. Not a reversed

Summary:
Nalion
Nalion, a male Breton mage currently stays in his home town of Lainlyn near
Shornhelm in the High Rock province. Though he is still busy sorting out his
own affairs there, some of which dating back 15 years, his thoughts more and
more turn to a prospering city on the Morrowind Mainland and the friends he has
left there. Once more, he feels that he stayed in one place for too long.
Gistral
Gistral, a Redguard warrior often acting as guide for caravans was last seen
traveling across the Alik'r desert in Hammerfell. Envious - and less successful
scouts - reported seeing him building sandcastles. The credibility of these
people seems to be rather ... lacking, though.

Shaka cursed himself as the three took out the skeleton warriors. Their
duplicates seemed content to watch them fight these minions first.
Why did I talk to Manavrio instead of attacking immediately, thought Shaka.
Stupid, as stupid as asking questions of a Daedroth. Now the lich had
disappeared with the Skull . . . .
As he decapitated one of the skeletons with the Spear of Bitter Mercy, Shaka
realized with a chill that his duplicate would be the greatest opponent of his
life. The battlemage had fought stronger foes before, or smarter, or more
cunning. But this other Shaka knew all his tricks and would be able to counter
them unthinkingly. Anya and Telera would find the same of their doppelgangers .

Dragon studied the Argonian's face, wishing that it was easier to gauge how
sober he was.

Pays for one of the cheaper respectable rooms. Drinks up and goes to leave his
stuff in his room. He then goes out to have a look around the town and do some
general nosing about.

Shaka held the Spear to his forehead in salute for a moment; his
doppleganger did the same, after a brief hesitation. Then the flurry of blows
and counters began.
Shaka found himself in the state of no-thought that might help him survive.
There was no time to plan, only strike and react. His double alternated between
thrusts of the Spear of Bitter Mercy, and attempting to catch Shaka's Spear in
its flanges. Shaka's tactics were the same.
The Dragonbone Cuirass each wore was as strong as any daedric armor, but the
Spear would prove stronger if it could land a solid thrust. Shaka turned to the
side just in time as his double's Spear gouged a path along the cuirass' ribs.
Shaka attempted a decapitating swipe of the broad spearhead, and was
unsurprised when his doppelganger not only ducked in time but lashed out with a
kick.
Shaka was hurled back for a moment, and swore as his opponent activated his
copy of the Amulet of Shadows. He was soon only a faint wavering in the dim
light of Manavrio's lair. Shaka immediately activated his own Amulet.
Now a deadly game of cat-and-mouse ensued as each warrior maneuvered as quietly
as possible. Shaka could smell his opponent, but not precisely enough for a
good target; his ears would have to strain as best they could.
On an impulse, he hurled the Spear . . . but not at his double. Shaka attempted
to skewer Telera's double.

"I looked for everyone I could find, but Shaka, Tel, and Anya are
away," she explains. "And my father's still down in the south
doing what he does best ... I'm ready, though."
"Good luck to you, and to everyone," Kethiah said sincerely.
"All battles are difficult, and this is one is one of the hardest."
"Loranna, one thing I think we need to talk about when you come back is
constructing warning bells around the town. I'm having the children come over
this afternoon to begin their exercises, but it's difficult to tell them how to
know when we're under attack without them ..."

Dragon arrived at the tavern.
"I've spoken with Falco's father; he's going with us. Kethiah, I think a
toscin is a very good idea. May I suggest the two temples, and the new tower of
the castle?"
Allerleirauh descended the stairs. She hadn't dressed, simply put on a robe.
Tris came in, not from upstairs, but through an outside door. "I have
parrapton riders waiting at the docks. Everything's ready. Goranthir's not

Goranthir came downstairs with Allerleirauh. "That's right, and I probably

are all hard-workers and hard-fighters. They won't let you down."

Reichi, having heard of the actions of Falco, had arrived at the
dock already. It was hard to think Falco, of all people, was the butcher of the
bay. Mutilating bodies like that never seemed Falco's style, Reichi would have
thought Falco, as a pirate, would have merely robbed the merchants blind and
stabbed anyone who put up resistance, not kill everyone and make decorations
out of their insides.
Of course, Reichi wouldn't have been nauseated by the sight of one of the
butchered ships, he was all too used to waking up in a simlar pile of gore.
Naked, bloodpattered. But still, Falco had to be stopped, he was butchering
innocents and Ald Raathim's trade.

Kethiah held the children's hands as they walked down to the docks to see their

Goranthir walked down as well, to make sure everything was all right with the
captain and crew of the Akarvina. He also spoke to the parraptons.
"They're ready."

false-Telera took advantage of knowing where Anya was to turn into her, daggers
flashing out to trap Anya’s away from her flesh. This close in she dropped the

At this point Telera, had sent a dagger at right angles to them, “You stay away

The Bound weapons were out of time anyway. Shaka stepped forward and wrapped
his tail around the Telera double's neck, then spun in a circle, snapping her

As the doppelganger dropped nervelessly, Shaka caught his Spear.
Before he moved to help Telera fight the last double, Shaka said to Anya:

Anya's doppleganger used the same suprise tactics that Anya employed. She began

“She’s already dead, Shaka,” Telera said, pointing at her own dagger in the Anya-copy’s throat.
As always after using the Lover's Kiss spell, Shaka felt completely drained;
but now he felt ashamed as well.
"Sorry," he said. "In all the confusion, I rushed things. But
thank the Nine that you're both alive."
Shaka straightened from looking at the doppleganger's corpse and spotted an
ornate leatherbound folio. He walked over to the desk for a moment.
This can't be a journal, can it? he wondered, and reached out, picking it up .

The
Nymph and Noggin
Goranthir put on the same outfit that he wore when he went into the Eight
Spheres. His enchanted cloak, shirt, and breeches which, in addition to
being magically enhanced armor, could change color and fabric, repair and dry
themselves with a touch, and which at the moment appeared as gray woolen cloth
cloak, white shirt, and black breeches. His belt buckle which would let
him breathe underwater and survive the effects of poison. His boots which
allowed him to cast jump and freefall.
"Does it say 'incognito' too much?" Goranthir asked Allerleirauh.
"Should I go the opposite way, and have bright colors like that Lyonswurst
bloke?"
"Neither is my accent ..." Goranthir rolled his eyes, and practiced
his voice. "That's hopeless. I should have a different story
to tell."
"That's true, I suppose," Allerleirauh said. "My ear for Meric
accents is bad. You don't sound as if you came from here, that's certain. You
sound upper-class, and... well. Altmer."

Anya walked through the corpses, collecting her weapons, her
eyes were wide and tilted in half confusion, half fear. As she wrenched the
dagger with silence out of the back of Shaka's clone, she mumbled partially to
herself partially out loud, "It- it could have been... no, no. It won't be
you. Nothing will happen. Nothing can happen..."
She swung her spear, flicking the blood off and slung it along her back. She
schooled her face, and helped Telera to her feet. She was scared of what she
saw in her doppleganger. It was a face she held for a long time, and something
she never fully recovered from.
"Shaka, does that say where to go? I don't want to be here any longer than

The Garden of the Nymph and Noggin
Every kid, Dunmer, Nord, Khajiit, between the ages of five and fifteen were in
the garden of the Nymph and Noggin as Kethiah explained to them that they had
to be brave and be prepared. She kept the lessons short this first time,
demonstrating to them the alarm bell, and telling them that they must get
somewhere safe when they heard it. She told them that a safe place may not be
home, but be at a temple, the Mages Guild, or the castle.
The garden was a good place to teach some basic rules of concealment. She also
took out a stuffed dummy she had used for practice and showed the kids where to
hit it to give them enough time to get away.
Tomorrow she would teach them more exercises.

"Clan Indoril claims kinship with all three of the legendary Tribunes,

Indoril's capital is Almalexia, also the capital of Morrowind itself, and the

"Nice," said Herwyn Brand from the far side of the garden, as he
watched Kethiah wave the last of the children, a rather rotund little Imperial
boy, out of the gate.
"I think I learned a thing or two about how to deal with Bad Men," he
added with a smile.
Although the last six months had filled the Spymaster's time with war-related,
sometimes dangerous, work, he seemed to have thrived under such pressure. Well,
there was something making him look healthy and happy, at least.
Herwyn threw his dark grey doublet over his shoulder, enjoying the warm spring

"Your garden is lovely. Much nicer, if you don't mind me saying, than your

He studied Anya's face. Shaka would have to see if talking to her later would

Before answering Anya, he turned to Telera. "You okay too, beautiful? We

"Good journey to you, friend," she said.
Nearby, deep in the dense wilderness, was a clearing, and within the clearing,
a grove of small trees. There were eight of them, and they stood in a circle.
They were 'imp' trees, growing not from the ground but from the skin of a dead
tree, a tree whose trunk, when alive, had been wider than a peasant's house.
The dead tree had rotted down to the ground now, forming a circle covered with
brightly colored lichens and fungi.
The Welwa grasped her own skin and pulled it off, becoming a woman again, in a

"This is Nirn's temple," she said. "Three women tend it, sisters

"It's --" Goranthir looked for the word. Beautiful hardly described
it, though it was. Artificial things could be beautiful. Beauty wasn't Nirn's

the conventional lovely. Instead he said, "It's just right."
He knelt, and kneeling he saw some lizards no longer than his finger were in

Telera wondered if she could weather the collapse as a golem, it might be interesting to find out sometime, the limits of that form. Now was not the time though. Brushing her amulet she muttered an arcane phrase and was teleported outside.
Shaka peered at the walls of bones. The rumble could now be felt under their
feet. Suddenly the bones collapsed, a choking cloud of dust rolling toward
them.
They covered their faces for a moment until it subsided.
Shaka opened the book again and began to read to Tel and Anya . . . .

Goranthir
looked at Allerleirauh, and then to the tree.
"It's --" Goranthir looked for the word. Beautiful hardly
described it, though it was. Artificial things could be beautiful.
Beauty wasn't Nirn's sphere: for the world was more than just the
well-arranged, the symmetrical, the conventional lovely. Instead he said,
"It's just right."
He knelt, and kneeling he saw some lizards no longer than his finger were in
the tree. He clicked a few greetings to them and got a reply.
"Thank you for bringing me here," Goranthir said quietly. "I
forget sometimes that I can be pious."
Allerleirauh bent and picked a few snippets of fungus, slipping them into a
pouch, then pressed her foot deep into the crumbled bark and filled a vial with
the clear liquid that filled her footprint.
You have a mother, Nirn. You belong to her, and not to Mannimarco, whatever
anyone says.
She didn't say the words, let the moss and the air laden with the scents of
spring say them.
She smiled, and waited for the time when he was ready to go.

The Diary of Manaviro
Rains Hand, 4th
Today I delt with another of Dibella's minions. On a lighter note, I found the
last tomb. I shall wait to see what this month offers me
Rains Hand, 5th
Today I had a problem with the undead, the zombies would not dry out enough! I
really should move to somewhere less humid. The collapse Trap has been
completed, now anyone who trys to read this diary except me will be crushed
under my castle.
(it goes on like this, till the Rains Hand, 25th)
Rains Hand, 25th
I have recieved word that a group of adventurers have been hired by Dibella to
retrieve the skull. It is still too early to give it up, but I think I can
convince them to leave me be for the time being. I hear one is doing this so
Dibella can change him into a redguard. For what vain reason he does this, I do
not know. nether the less, I shall cook up a polymorph potion and attempt to
offer it to him to leave me alone
Rains Hand, 26th
They arrived at Gideon today, and should be here tomorrow. I have revieved
further intelegence on the adventurers. Finished the potion. Once I deal with
them, it should give me time to head to Kvatch, the cemetry there contains the
final tomb, before more dibella supporters arrive
(there is no entry for Rains Hand, 27th, obviously Manaviro wrote in his diary
at the end of each day)

Goranthir did not pray exactly. Nirn was not the sort of goddess you asked
things of. You simply revered and respected her. He let his mind, and all his

Finally, he stood, and kissed Allerleirauh. "I'm ready."

At the quiet bay beneath Castle Daruhn, he went into the water and didn't

The triad took a series of Guild guide transports to the
Colovian Highlands, arriving late that same evening. The exhausted Shaka, Tel
and Anya decided to find an inn before attempting to track Manavrio in the
cemetery.
Kvatch proved to be a city of stone, ancient from appearances. As they trudged
through its streets, Shaka reflected that this far from Morrowind, one could
almost forget the civil war. Their first transports had gotten a lower priority
than war-related cargo and personnel, but not in these highlands.
Shaka drew his travelling cloak tighter. Spring here was still brisk.
At last they found an inn that was willing to take in the strange group of
companions: Argonian, Bosmer, Dunmer. Woodelves were far from an unusual sight
in Kvatch, but Dunmer were thinner on the ground and an Argonian was a
curiousity.
I forget sometimes that Ald Raathim is still practically a frontier town, even
with its history such as Barenziah, thought Shaka.
They rose before dawn and made their way to the city cemetery. Near commoners'
graves lay the mausoleums of the city's well-off and powerful. Merchant families
couldn't be distinguished from the nobility at first sight.
The likeliest tomb seemed to be one with its door freshly opened, as by force;
all the others seemed locked. Shaka cast a Light spell with one hand as they
descended into the sepulchre.
Posted by: syronj Oct 27 2005, 02:42 PM
When they reached the bottom of the steps, Shaka asked Anya and
Telera to wait for him, unsure why he wanted to confront Manavrio alone.
A dozen tombs could be seen on the floor ahead. A small chapel could be
glimpsed in a side wing. Shaka slowly threaded between the tombs, the Spear of
Bitter Mercy at the ready.
He found one tomb with its stone lid moved aside. Two cloaked figures stood
next to it; Shaka couldn't tell if he had been spotted.

"Your diary hinted you're planning something, obviously necromantic. That
was careless of you by the way, to leave it in your study. We couldn't return

Damn it, I thought he already knew where we came from, thought Shaka. I should
have had Tel and Anya here after all, they'd have been smarter.
Shaka felt a slight thrill of uncertainty. This was a little like dealing with
the Daedra . . . .
"Trade what, exactly?" What was Manavrio under his mask? Armor? A
skeleton? Shaka still couldn't tell, but his phylactery would of course be
strongly protected and probably far distant.

Shaka was stunned. This couldn't be so easy . . . .
Of course, the Dibellans would find Manavrio's diary invaluable. But the Skull
of Corruption was legendary, priceless.
Shaka heard himself say the words before his brain really registered that he'd
said them:
"If this isn't a trick . . . I think that could be done."

His voice screamed at him, Attack him! Why are you even bargaining with this
lich?
But Shaka knew the answer. The mind before him was too powerful, the will honed

Another being would have raged at Manaviro as he disappeared, but Shaka only
stood for a moment, then walked over and picked up the Skull. It didn't seem to
be a fake, not that the lich was small enough for such tricks. The Skull of
Corruption virtually radiated age and power.
Even Vehk probably had to compromise with evil, sometimes; he tried to tell
himself.
Shaka couldn't lie to Tel and Anya and still live with himself. But as for
telling the Dibellans everything . . . . He didn't know.
After waiting the hour that Shaka had asked of them, Telera and Anya found him
sitting in the small chapel, the Skull on the bench beside him.

Telera knew there hadn’t been a battle, no sounds of spellfire
whatsoever, no shaking ground from explosions, the liches she had encountered
previously had all used their share flashy, explosive and deadly tricks in
battle, but Shaka had returned with the skull, that meant the lich had been
down there, they had met and… ‘Who cares about a mouldy bag
of bones, lets us get back to the war quicker. Fields of blood, streams of it,
and victims lining up by the hundreds.’ Telera
quashed that voice and echoed Anya’s sentiment, “We should go home now.”
