The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses

Posted by: Loranna Oct 19 2005, 07:25 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

Newcomers, we ask you to
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855 before starting up; everyone will be happier for it smile.gifAlso, read http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From there, type /join #Loranna_RP

You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna: Loranna has just heard about Tris's assumption of the title Count of Sternhart, and has been invited to dinner at his place this evening, a dinner she looks forward to despite the worrisome plume of smoke visible even from Ald Raathim ...

She's also plotting doom for various people that we'll probably never meet, too wink.gif

Summary

Helseth, King of Morrowind, is in Castle Mournhold, following a fiery meeting with the ambassadors of House Indoril and House Redoran, where he rejected their proposed new alliance. He also revealed to them that he had destroyed the rogue members of House Indoril who had attacked the Queen Mother ... and everything else around them in a three mile radius.

Kethiah, ex-assassin and partner with Isidor at the Nymph and Noggin tavern in Ald Raathim, is at the tavern, keeping busy.

Goranthir, Prince of Firsthold, has been watching the plume of smoke down at the docks, trying to learn from the local fishermen what has happened.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Castle Mournhold

Helseth used the mirror in the study to communicate with his mother and fiancee, who had left for one of the country houses.

"I see," said Barenziah after Helseth told her about the meeting, and rejecting the new offer of alliance. "Did you keep your temper?"

"I bellowed a bit," Helseth acknowledged.

"It would be a good idea to have the wedding soon," Barenziah replied.

Vaan stood on the quayside of the docks at Ald Raathim, mostly pondering the future.

his hands were behind his back, and he was pacing slowly. Yet more slowly, he turned his whole form towards the plume of smoke, curious as to what it might be.

Then, a hand fell upon his shoulder.

"Necron." Vaan said, flatly.

"Aye" responded the figure behind him. Vaan turned around again, to reveal an old looking dunmer, with grey hair, and stern, but ancient, eyes. Necron was wearing a Robe of Deepest red and black, the guild colours.

Vaan sighed with relief at the sight, and began to tell him everything that had happened.

While the others socialized, Kethiah spoke with merchants, sailors, and importers about goods being delivered to the docks which the could use at the Nymph and Noggin. The bay was wide enough for the ships, and true to the Queen Mother's word, the routes were now taking them all past Ald Raathim.

"Loranna," Kethiah said, stopping one of the merchants while he was talking and approaching the Lady of Daruhn. "This fellow has some merchandise which we don't need here at the tavern, but you might have use for."

Over the past few months, Loranna had been getting better at figures, though she still wasn't near Kallen's level of expertese. Still, her growing financial sense suggested that doing business with this merchant would be a good idea; his figures were pursuasive, and a little polite conversation to get a feel for the mer's personality left Loranna feeling she could trust him.

Loranna places a few orders, looking ahead to the next spring planting now that Ald Raathm was a bigger and more bustling community. She negotiates a little with the merchant about prices and shipping times.

Tris caught Kethiah between merchants.

"Kethiah - I've been thinking, and I have a proposal for you. That large upstairs room. I think Ald Raathim would benefit from a nice place where meetings could be held. A place you could take ambassadors and priestesses and queens, for an elegant meal and a few drinks, on neutral territory. Having a banquet at the castle sets a tone which isn't always the right tone for the sort of informal business we conduct here.

"Now, the place looks lovely, but it's a bit frontierish, because, well, this is a frontier and it costs money to ship Argonian hardwoods. If you're interested, I'll put up the money. Argonian panelling, a plasterer to do the ceiling moldings, formal glass in the windows since they're too high for some drunk to stumble and put an elbow through them. Paintings. Diamond's, of course. But I have a house full of old Masters, and I'm going to get rid of some of them to put in a handball court. That's what made me think of it in the first place. A place to put the paintings. I know, I think of the decor first and the function second. But it struck me as a good idea."

Kethiah laughed. "You are clearly a genius, Tris, because that lines up very well with the plans already afoot for the Nymph. Since we're right on the docks, Loranna is putting me in charge of fielding offers from various merchants, and taking the best ones to her and Kallen. Cut back on the paperwork, you know. There will be regular meetings, and I'm sure many if not most of them will need to be confidential."

She told him more of her plans, and agreed that the tavern could be improved even more, provided it continued to be rustic enough for the common sailors who would be using it, but grand enough in its private salons for its other uses.

"What would you want in exchange to your monetary contributions, Tris? A share of the business profits?"

Caves near Ald Raathim

Slashes hears the sounds of fighring from the other tunnel. "I think the situation is well in hand." He says to the dunmer guard.

Slashes returns to the room with the stollen goods and gathers up the most valuable. He puts gold and silver in a box, as much as he can carry.

He takes the crate through the tunnel and leaves it with the guard. He then once again returns to the treasure hoard and gathers a box for the dunmer to carry.

Once back through the tunnel he hands the dark elf guard the crate and picks up the first one. "Let us get back to town. I am sure the townsfoalk will be happy to see at least some of the stollen property returned."

Some time later

Slashes and the dunmer enter the town of Ald Raathim. They are quite a sight to see. An argonian warrior with blood stains on his armor and a pauldron hanging awkwardly with a large rent in it, a dunmer with a small hole in his cuirass and a large blood satin around it, and both carrying heavy crates.

"I wish to speak with Dragon, or whoever is in charge!" The argonian shouts.

Tris listened to Kethiah's plans, and nodded.

"I want a place to sleep where no one hates me," Tris said. "You have no idea how precious a commodity that is. To be honest, I hadn't thought as far as what I wanted in return. Making money instead of spending it is a new idea to me. My father would be spinning in his grave if his casket were deep enough for him to slip over. I suppose we'd better make this look good. Call it a 'club' and put me down for a lifetime membership."

Necron stood, facing the Plume, very, very, silenty.

Vaan shrugged, "It was fast....It just...happened."

Necron turned to him, "Let me just get this all straight, you met a surviving ordinator, who after meeting you, proposed to one of the Triunes that our order be re-established..."

Vaan nodded silenty.

"...And while you were speculating wildy, A crazy man stepped out of the shadows, scrunched up your paper, and started spouting gibberish at you?"

They both laughed at the lack of necron's seriousness

Necron continued: "But Seriously Vaan, Archpatriach Solin was....spying on you"

"I never thought of it like that Necron, I can't see why you see so much into it..."

"because I was trained to! I was an inquisitor...and by the looks of things....I'm about to return to that!" Necron said, smiling at the somehwat innocent tone that Vaan was taking.

"I mean, seriously....Vaan, This is just...wierd, I was not expecting this to ever happen, It's just so....sudden. One minute you're just an washed up has-been....trying to re-gain some form of power....the next....they hand you back everything you ever wanted..."

Vaan cut in: "Might do, it has not been confirmed yet..."

"Again...more innocence and nievity from you Vaan...The political situation....is perfect for this...But back to the point Vaan, why was Solin spying on you?"

Vaan shrugged again.

"Somethings not right there....I sense mistrust." Necron continued.

The conversation stopped there, Little else could be said, and to be honest, both of them were confused, they stood now facing the smoke plume.

"Necron?" Asked Vaan, pointing to the Plume of smoke, "What's in that direction?"

"Don't Know." Said Necron bluntly.

"Does that answer your question Vaan?" asked Necron.

Vaan did not answer, choosing to swear loudly instead.

"I can also put you on account for receiving a portion of our profits," Kethiah grinned a little. "As soon as we make some. Just in case your fortune fails, and you need something. Well, I better get back to work. I will talk to the merchants about your suggestions, and see what we can't get imported in, so we can begin new construction."

She went outside to write on the bulletin board the words Loranna had told her to use:

"Let it be known that the Lady of Daruhn has authorized Kethiah, co-proprieter of the Nymph and Noggin tavern, to field requests and offers by merchants for business with Ald Raathim. All worthy bids shall be passed on to the Lady and her seneshal."

While she was doing that, Goranthir passed her and entered the tavern.

“They said that Helseth is destroying the temples, and now they’re saying Mournhold is in flames now,” he said, seriously. “That the royal family is dead.”

Slashes-with-Claws found that no one answered him at once. In fact, the streets of Ald Raathim were surprisingly empty of construction workers.

Ald Raathim: beneath the Arena

In the athlete's training rooms beneath the Arena, Dragon was giving a speech. The echoing concrete chamber was silent, except for the sounds of two hundred males and females of all different races, breathing.

"Now. You all have worked hard for me, and I appreciate that. That's why I'm going to tell you this first, before you hear it somewhere else. You've done good work here, lasting work, work to be proud of.

"Shortly you're going to hear that there's a war in Morrowind. Indoril and Redoran have rebelled against the King. Some of you are going to have to make hard decisions.

"Lady Dres Loranna Pyrel is loyal to her king, and her Emperor. And more than that, she's loyal to what they stand for. That no one part of the Empire can oppress any other, no one race can oppress any other. That we all deserve to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. This is Daruhn, and here all dwell free.

"Now, I know that some of you who think that's not the way it should be. If that's the way you think, well then, you're free to go, and no questions asked. But if you want to stay, if the thought of someone tearing down your good work makes you sick, then you're free to stay too. No one will speak a word against you, no matter where you were born or what House you come from. You all know the Lady, you've seen here with your own eyes, down in the trenches. Has she ever oppressed any one of you? Asked you to do anything without putting coin in your pocket to spend as you like?

"I know what I plan to do. I plan to stay here as long as I'm needed, and defend the work I've done. Well, that's all I have to say. And I thank you for listening to me."

Seeing that Vaan and the newcomer were still deep in conversation, Shaka returned to the tavern. The docks were eerily quiet, as Ald Raathim's construction had ceased for the day.

"Too many rumors flying around," said Shaka to no one in particular as he reentered the Nymph and Noggin. "Maybe someone should use the guild guide to Mournhold and see for themselves."

Walking over to Goranthir, she says quietly "Dear, come with me to my study. We'll contact your grandmother, make sure she's all right." She puts her hand on Gornthir's shoulder gently, supportively.

The recent destruction of Bal Tereg and the surrounding area have been confirmed to be the stamping out of the renegades who attacked the Queen Mother some weeks ago. There is no reason to worry that other communities shall be suffering the same fate; the renegades have been accounted for.

These are stark times we live in, but the people of Ald Raathim are strong; we are the people who repulsed the Azurites from our shores, protecting countless refugees from their evil. We have all lived through stark times, and shall endure and prosper in the future.

"Come, there's a new Tavern open, called the the Nymph and Noggin, let's go there, and maybe some good news will arrive."

Vaan obeyed without hesitation. When they arrived outside the Tavern, they saw this:

"Well, at least it wasn't a temple." Mused Vaan, somewhat optimistically.Necron;s reply was not so enthusiastic however:

"It's bad, nevertheless, the Political side of this is catastrophic Vaan, who knows what the aftereffects of such a thing will be?"

Without further words, they both headed inside the new Tavern.

The Nymph and Noggin, Ald Raathim
While she was doing that, Goranthir passed her and entered the tavern.

“They said that Helseth is destroying the temples, and now they’re saying Mournhold is in flames now,” he said, seriously. “That the royal family is dead.”

QUOTE(Loranna @ Oct 19 2005, 01:53 PM)

Loranna hears Goranthir, and frowns, slipping outside to talk to Kethiah.

"Dear, maybe you should put that other notice up as well we just talked about," she says, looking back at Goranthir.

Walking over to Goranthir, she says quietly "Dear, come with me to my study.  We'll contact your grandmother, make sure she's all right."  She puts her hand on Gornthir's shoulder gently, supportively.

"Where's Allie?" Tris said. "She'll know."

He wasn't worried that Barenziah was dead. Not for even an eyeblink or a skip of the heart. But it did worry him that the General had left him so completely out of her network. Who was she using to spy, with Doll and Mirea both gone? Old Dragon?

Allerleirauh was waiting for them, in Loranna's study.

Loranna told them as they walked up to her castle the information she had received, which had been put on the bulletin board at the Nymph and Noggin. There was no intelligence about Mournhold being in flames, and the royal family being dead. It was just unfounded rumor.

Nevertheless, Goranthir wanted to speak to his grandmother and make sure she was all right. His expression was not worried, but still serious.

He was surprised to see Allerleirauh in the study. "What have you heard?"

Indoril and Redoran waved their fannies in his face one too many times; he's going to spank them. All's well, except for the people of Bal Tereg. Barenziah's not going to turn on me without a good cause, we discussed the Temple when she was here. You'd better talk to her; it will make both of you feel more at ease."

Outside, Dragon was walking through the streets towards the castle. A stream of construction workers followed in his wake.

As he left the tavern he saw dragon walking along the main road, followed by many peope.

Slashes and the dunmer guard approached the group.

Shaka reentered the tavern after reading the message board. He walked over to Telera and Anya, who were seated in a booth.

"The destruction was at Bal Tereg," he said. "I knew most of the wild rumors were unfounded. Helseth is a lot of things, but insane isn't one of them. Not even close."

"Hell of a week . . . At least the Lady and her district had almost a year to catch their breath, and rebuild."

Behind them, the construction workers cheered.

"I believe I owe you five hundred gold," Dragon said. They had reached the gates of the castle. He stopped outside them, counted out the money, and handed it to Slashes. The workers cheered again.

Dragon patted him on the shoulder, and winked. "I think we can find more work for you; I'll be right back."

He went into the castle, looking for Kallen.

"You don't have to say anything, but given who Kethiah is, I can guess what value she might have to Loranna in wartime. . . . If I tried to tell Anya she couldn't be a rogue anymore, she'd tell me where to get off. He patted Isidor's shoulder. "I'll let you be, Nord." Shaka walked back to the booth.

Slashes calmly waited, glad to be working a propper job, earning money, not the right to live and eat. Which remined him, there was still one queston he had to ask. He had to know if what he had heard was true.

Slashes looked at one of the construction workers, "You, tell me. I have seen no slaves in this city? I would think that they would be used much in such construction. Why are there none?"

The worker looked at Slashes oddly. "Did you not know? Slaves are illegal in Ald Raathim. It has been that way for some time and Lady Loranna kept it that way when she became the new ruler."

Slashes was overjoyed at this news, but it did not show on his scally face. This is where Slashes-With-Claws belonged, untill he returned to the marsh again.

Tris wanted to place his hand on the mirror; but the General had forbidden it. He supposed it was possible to be too trusting. There had been a time, not too long ago, when Loranna hadn't been her own agent. There had been a time when they had fought Solin. Cells, a network of cells. The General wasn't wrong. Vaan and Necron sat down inside the Nymph and Noggin.

"And now, what you originally came here for:" Said Vaan, shoving his hand in a pouch and taking out one of the Command Humanoid Stones.

"Ah yes" Said Necron "I know how to use these well"

Vaan shot a disgruntled look at him. Necron laughed.

"Of course, you're not familiar with using Enchanted items, are you? That's understandable" he added.

"Actually, we owe our present Ordinator situation to that, I had to go to the mages guild to find out how to work the stones, that's where I met Kratos." Vaan replied.

"come to think of it, Vaan, where is Kratos? I'd like to meet him." probed Necron.

Vaan shrugged "I don't know, necron, I don't keep tabs on him. Anyway, back to the point.." (and pulling out the other two stones, he carried on) "I have myself one Command Humanoid stone, and one Detect Humanoid stone, along with the knowledge of how to use them. If I strap them to the back of my hands, they are easier to use on a whim, only, I need some leather straps to do that...."

Necron, luckily, had some, and gave them to Vaan. The stones, luckily, were comfortable when strapped to the back of the hand, there were no inconveniences to it, since the stone seemed almost designed to be there, their shape (being mostly flat and a tiny bit rounded) was perfect for it. as an extra plus, the stones had quite an aesthetic quality to them too.

"There." Mused Vaan "Perfect."

OOC Summary

Reichi's hanging around the Nymph and Noggin, after the grand opening party and subsquent hangovers that ensue the following day.

---

Reichi stood outside the Nymph, staring at the plume of smoke as so many others had, he knew what it was from the bullentin board, and it was worrysome news. But then again, Ald Raathim had survived the Azurites, and as untrained as they could be, they had winged twilights. Even the weakest little Azurite child could bring a winged Daedra screaming on you. Reichi could remeber the twilight-filled skies, how they could tear into ground based fighters with ease. The sheer terror they could evoke in troops.

Redoran and Indoril, if they ever even thought of storming down here, couldn't put up that much of a fight, right? Reichi shook his head, even if they could, with the folks here, well, they might as well throw themselves on their own blades. Reichi sighed, then reflected that things wouldn't be so dull around here anymore.

QUOTE(SpartanShea117 @ Oct 19 2005, 05:27 PM)

Kratos dropped his book on the table and turned around to face Necron.

"The war that is coming is between the Great Houses and the King. I wouldn't think the Temple could be attacked so blatantly. Indoril and Redoran are still loyal to the Temple." He stated.

*

"Kratos, I've had experience with people. In War, people need to feel protected, the temple stands as a natural icon of protection, if it intends that or not, the people will look to it for protection, and it's best if it is able to turn around and say "yes, we can confidently keep you safe from these rampaging armies!" and prove that it can with public show of it's genuine protection, and I mean real protection, should the worst come to the worst."

Vaan, once again, continued off from here: "Politics are wierd, Sure, the temple stands in a good postion now, but people change, as do governments, and opinions. This war may be turn out to change the face of our Homeland, and the new face could be anything, We need to protect the temple and it's people....heck, we need to protect all the people, from the possibilities of a hostile government that could emerge from this!"

Necron carried on: "the possibilities and possible threats are endless Kratos, we, the temple, needs to be prepared for it all. I feel, somehow, the new ordinators can facilitate the safety of the future."

Vaan finished "This War.....anything could happen. the temple needs to be prepared."

Necron chimed in an afterthought, "The problem is.....there are but three of us!" he wasn't seriously worried about that though.

then Vaan added, "Even if they do reject us, we need to act no differently, nothing changes, it's just that, with an Ordinator corp, solving all that was just said, will be ten times easier."

This speech, they directed at Arynel as well as Kratos.

“Rule by law is indeed effective,” Arynel said, “but far too easily corruptible.”

“The purpose of the temple is beyond protection,” the Breton continued, “for death is the way of mortals, and whether in battle or in old age it will come to each one.”

Vaan bowed with a smile.

"Right you are, sir."

Afterall, his decision was the temple's decision.

"Protection is most definately what the people are going to need. And if it is from the Temple, all the better for us." He replied.

"I'm willing to take up arms for the Temple if need be. Even if our proposal is rejected." He added.

"This isn't the best of times to be talking about our proposal. I will be patient and wait for the Temple's decision."

"But come now, let us have a toast to honor this meeting of surviving Ordinators." He ordered four mugs of sujamma and handed them one each.

It was a little early for Tales and Tallows, but that was the new act Quill had devised, and the Redguards loved it. It was about a young man, grieving for his lost love, who goes to visit her grave and falls asleep. He wakes up at night to a world of ghosts -- horrifically costumed acrobats who rushed through the air at him, as if to tear him apart.

Mirea was given the starring role as the Queen of the Dead who seduces the young man, and then lays him in his grave.

It was perhaps a macabre spectacle, but Quill seemed to be channeling his dark experiences in High Rock in a creative fashion.

Tris shook his head. "Everything I had planned seems like a house of cards now. Goranthir, I came here to invite you to dinner with me... nothing formal, my father just died. But I didn't want to eat dinner with my family without a couple of close friends there. I'll be back, and then we'll do that, assuming nothing else explodes into flames."

Tris gave thanks for his sister. Iolanthe would handle his business, if he let her.

His first stop was in Daggerfall, at the Rat's Satchel, a bar of shady reputation, where Tris was well-known.

Bryn was already drinking.

Tris set a heavy purse down on the bar beside him, and Bryn looked up.

"By Kynareth, don't do that here! Oh, it's you. I already said no, go away."

"This is because you said no," Tris said. "Go on, throw it back in my face, tell me to keep my dirty money."

Bryn looked resentful. He was drinking too much; times were bad, and he didn't appreciate being twitted about it.

"That money's a gift," Tris said. He set another purse down beside the first. "This one's promotion money. What have you heard about Ald Raathim?"

"New Arena there," Bryn said. "Doesn't matter. No one wants to risk Morrowind. The air's like poison, six months of living there will crush any athlete. Haven't you heard the way Dunmer speak? And besides rumor says there's war coming."

"Don't worry about the war," Tris said. "War's coming everywhere when our blessed Emperor's heart finally fails. Ald Raathim's safe as houses. You tell everyone you know on the circuit. Travel. Tell them to come to the games, big purse money for the footraces at Ald Raathim. It will be announced soon."

"This is big money," Bryn said, opening the strings of the bag and looking inside. "It's not counterfeit?"

"My father died," Tris said, and left Bryn sitting with his mouth open.

He ran. And ended up in Tear, where he asked to be introduced to her majesty Barenziah.

She approached Quill after the performance was over.

Tris waited for longer than he was used to. He had seen Barenziah and Dres Vendama in the Void, talking to a cloaked figure, in the house's library.

Vendama met him first. "Her Majesty won't be much longer, milord."

Alexi hurried through the passageways. He made his waay through at least 5 more brigands before reaching a very large chamber. Standing there was one of the largest nords he had ever seen, and 16 more bandits.

The nord grinned, "So you'r the one who been causing the trouble." He rumbled. Alexi grinned back, "Yes." He said. Then let loose. His fireball struck the nord in the chest, sending him backwards smoking. Alexi darted forward, cutting down one surprised bandit before he could move. The rest of them snapped out of their surprise and went on the offensive, but alexi was in his element. There wasn't enough room for large swings and shields would just get in the way. Alexi's short sword and dagger combination were perfectly suited for such a fight though.

He used their numbers against them, dodging through the bandits and never fighting more than one at a time. The three archers couldn't get a clear shot either, Alexi always positioning one man in thier way. Alexi's blade took down one then two then three then four. The dead piled around him. Alexi was careful not to trip. One bandit wasn't as quick on his feet. He stumbled and Alexi's blade tor his throat out.

The other bandits started to get desperate. They made mistakes. An arrow shot off, missing a bandit, and Alexi, by an inch. The bandit flinched and Alexi's dagger burried into his chest before withdrawing. Alexi enjoyed the blood flowing through him. It had been so long since he had had so much fun, he'd forgotten how it was to take a man's life. Another bandit moved a second too slow and fell gurgling in his own blood. Alexi had taken minor wounds, but everytime he killed an enemy he healed and continued fighting.

The remaining five fighters backed off to give the archers a chance to fire. The first shot missed, as did the second. The third bounced off Alexi's blade. He grinned and tossed his dagger, catching one archer in the throat. Another dagger appeared and flew out, taking a bandit in the eye who thought he could sneak up on Alexi. His last dagger came out and he charged one off the archers. A hastely shot arrow glanced off the chainmail on Alexi's torso before the tip of his sword pierced his enemy's throat. The remaining arhcer dropped his bow and ran, soon followed by the remaining four bandits. Alexi grinned and went after them.

The captain's cabin of the Red Falcon, somewhere East of Vas.

Falco awoke surprised Heelja wasn't lying next to him. Must've left already He drressed himself, sat at his desk, and began writing a letter.

The deck of the Red Falcon

Heelja stared out at the ocean, pondering where Falco was taking the ship. She smiled a bit, knowing that she was the favored crew member. That position was one most saught after. It meant a warm bed, extra rations, and the captain often showed leniency should she break a rule of the ship. Should Heelja choose to, she could probably get away with the murder of another crewman (A VERY serious offense with just a warning). She smiled a sly smile, knowing that hers was a position of power, for she alone could influence the decisions of their captain.

Below Deck

The crew was whispering where they could go next. Many wanted to head South into Black Marsh. Others wanted to try their luck hunting mead-carrying ships. Others who had heard the rumors that war was coming wanted to ply the pirate's favorite trade, privateering. All wondered and speculated. Falco was due to announce their destination later today.

Ald Raathim

Trason made his way to the local weapons smith in Ald Raathim. There were lines out the doors... When people saw that smoke, they knew that they should brace themselves. They all ran to buy weapons and armor, even though alot of the citizens have no idea how to use them. Trason cut infront of the lines and nobody said anything to him.

"Hey! Lucius!" Trason yelled through the crowds.

A man's head peeked out the door leading to the back.

"Trase? Is that you buddy?!" The man yelled.

"The one and only!"

The man got out of his chair and came to the front of the store, taking a break from his smithing.

"By the nine... I thought you were... Well I guess not. It's been awhile Trason, why did you come here?" Lucius said.

"I need a favor, I dont have my paycheck yet, but I need the best sword you have as sonn as possible." Trason said.

"You expect me to help you after you disappear for 3 years and come back and don't even tell me where you've been! I dont thi..." Trason cut him off quickly.

"LOOK LUCIUS, Im asking for a favor, and I do recall doing a lot of odd jobs for yourself. Give me something, and we will catch up another time."

Lucius simply nodded and walked into the back. A few minutes later he came out with a medium sized sword.

"Pure ebony... If you lose this Trason, I'll have your head." Lucius said.

"Thank the heavens for you Lucius"

Trason grabbed the sword and dashed back to his room at the Nymph and Noggin. If there was going to be a fight, he wasn't going to run this time.

On impulse, he asked her: "Would you like to see the area I'm working on?"

Vaan smiled at the goodwill of Kratos.

"Up here" he said, putting his finger to his temple, "Nothing can be phased out."

"We are servants of the temple, the temple shall decide, and we shall but follow." Necron chimed in.

Vaan nodded at this.  "Indeed."

"Then we will wait, friends." Kratos said, drinking his sujamma.

Isidor excused himself from the table with Anya, and walked over to the table where Arynel sat. After Kratos had mentioned the ordinators, Isidor had thought about the new Temple, and Arynel would be the likely person to ask, if he had any questions about it.

He sat down, and said, "Hello, Arynel. I just had a question- or two- for you, about the temple. Rather, the new temple. What are it's ideals? It's doctrine?"

"Well," Isidor said, contemplating the Breton's words, "I would ask you to speak in the simpiliest terms you could, as to explain to one who is not as sharp as you. Shaka walked with her outside, and embraced Telera. "I need you to hold on for a moment," he said, and gestured in Recall.

The two found themselves in front of Shaka's yurt. Masser and Secunda, in different phases, were already out and hung over the bay. The sun was setting, the waters gleaming gold below.

Shaka found himself holding the dunmer's hand as they contemplated the view for a while.

As Kallen listened, he resumed his usual look of confident efficiency.  "It is a good strategy, one I should have been prepared for as rumors of war began.  I will draft an agreement at once for your and the Lady's approval, and then get scribes to duplicate it for the entire cohors."

Kallen had always spoken to Dragon with politeness, but there was more respect than ever in his voice.  The old man had organized something Kallen had forgotten -- unforgivably forgotten -- that was needed.

Loranna's Study

Kallen was effecient and swift; in little time he had a proposal ready for Loranna, and she read it over, carefully.

"It looks good," she says after carefully reading through the document, and discussing the issues that Kallen foresaw. "Let's get this to Dragon, and get things moving," she tells Kallen, signing the document.

Again, she thanks the Nine she agreed to Dragon's proposal back in Solunastra; Ald Raathim was as ready as it could be for the coming strife, and a lot of the credit belonged to the aging Nord. Kallen bows once and takes the signed agreement to Dragon.

Shaka reluctantly let go of her hand; he was suddenly dizzy, and had to sit on the log bench in front of the yurt. "I knew you'd like it, beautiful . . . . Damn, that was a stupid stunt for me to pull, trying to Recall with another being. Give me a second."

After lowering his head for a while, he managed to stand again. "The yurt's nothing fancy, but it's been a good shelter. Let me show you the other reason I built here, besides the view."

Shaka walked with Telera to the waterfall and stream, pointing out where he had planted bulbs to flower in Spring, and where he planned further gardens.

As he showed her the ornamental fish in their mosaic of colors, he had a brief thought: How many generations of men and women had grown up, enjoyed the view of the Ald Raathim waters, and passed away? But then it hit him: he was still thinking like a warmblood, a softskin.

"Telera," he said at last, "What happened to you got me thinking further on change; on how much of ourselves is essence, and how much is an accident."

He shook his head.  "I don't know yet.  The times are bad and going to get a lot rougher.  I don't want to skip out on Loranna's people."

"At this moment, though, I'm glad to be here with you."

“I make my own choices,” Telera said evenly.

“How can you say in the space of a few breaths that you have both found your soulmate and that you don’t fit anywhere?” Telera challenged. In a more conciliatory tone she continued, “If you think it will help Shaka, I don’t think anyone will accuse you of running off in the face of danger Shaka. And if they do, you have at least two daggers more than willing to make a stand in your defense.”

'None whatsoever,' Maranda said slowly, 'although I am ashamed at being saved by a Daedra, especally the one I most want to kill,' she looked up at Solena, 'So what is it you ask of me today? I am ready for anything you desire for me to do' She finished, awaiting Solena's reply

Jelsia entered the room. She was veiled, as was the temple custom at certain times of purification.

"There you are, my daughter," Solena said. "Good, you are both here. Maranda, I believe you have visited a place called Ald Raathim, in Morrowind. The lady of this place is a devout worshipper of the goddess; she wishes us to establish a mission there, and she has provided money for a proper House. We have found a priestess suitable to be head of the new establishment; now it remains to cast incense into the fire, sacrifice, and prophecy, and determine a name for the Rite of this new house."

Solena gestured, including both Maranda and Jelsia in her speech.

"My daughters, it is my understanding that you have found love, and desire to be assigned to the same temple. Would this posting be acceptable for you? I cannot pretend that it is without danger. Morrowind is a strange land, and the Nine Divines are not beloved there. There may be worshippers of the heathen Dunmer devils who try to smash our icons and altars, and drive us away."

"I'm going to stay in Ald Raathim for a little while, until I see what happens with the dissenting Houses."

A figure darkened the doorway briefly.

“Coincidence stalks the edges of the world as a pack of hungry kagouti,” Solin said from underneath his netchmask.  His robe and boots were smeared with black ash and the vague sent of smoke lingered about him.

"Hail Solin Kaer," Allerleirauh said. "No coincidence; I called to you in my heart, and your heart heard me."

She smiled, and bowed to him.

"Jelsia is not senior enough to lead a House, much less a new establishment in strange territory," Solena said. "There will be several priestesses. The head priestess is being prepared for the ceremony now."

Eerie trumpets sounded; they were made of shell, and the sound was high and piercing and seemed to come from farther away than it did. Then the whistling of many bone flutes. The double bronze doors at the far end of the chamber opened, and twelve Temple servants, naked men, entered the room, bearing a litter.

Upon the litter sat a merish woman. She was entirely covered in gold paint, naked except for a wig of gold wire and a veil which covered her face except for the eyes. By the eyes, gleaming crimson like hot coals, they could see that she was Dunmer.

The Great Censer, a firey cauldron as wide as a man is tall, was lowered from the ceiling on chains. The ranked priestesses around the room began to chant. Solena raised her arms and cast handful of incense into the pit, which flashed with violet magic, and emitted a sweet, heady scent.

The litter was lowered to the ground. The Dunmer priestess stepped down, and into the coals.

Those watching let out a chorus of shrill yipping and wails, rising to ecstatic shrieks, as the Priestess bowed to the ground before Solena, kneeling in the coals.

The Dunmer Priestess kneeling in the coals sat upright. Even a Dunmer could not endure such intense flames for so long; there must have been something in the incense. It filled the room, a violet, choking cloud. Maranda began to feel light-headed, and the colors seemed brighter, the wild animals sounds of the people yipped and wailing and screaming began to make sense.

Solena Caro, standing with her arms outstretched, seemed more beautiful than was possible.

"Morrowind, where the heart rests in a tomb of flames," the Dunmer Priestess said, in a language Maranda would not have been able to understand, if not for the incense working its magic in her. "Ald Raathim, seat of an ancient line of kings. Power and passion, beauty in its purest, most concentrated form, unbearable to all but the Initiated..."

Solena Cara spoke:

"The new Rite, suited to the Province and People of Morrowind, shall be the Rite of the Passion of the Fiery Heart of Dibella."

The twelve temple workers helped the Priestess from the flames; she fainted, and they tended to her.

Seeing Shaka’s response to the lizard-man comment, she instantly regretted saying it. "Is it really as safe as you said?"  Jelsia said. "Morrowind, I've heard such bad things about the place. They have slaves there, and they aren't loyal to the Empire."

*

Maranda stopped for a bit, 'It is as safe as Daggerfall, or Argonia, or Hammerfall, and besides, I am here, and will protect you with my life before anything. If one harms a priestess, the entire army of Cyrodiil will fall apon them. In Ald Raatham, there is no slavery. Even so, its best we only tread lightly on the soils of this new world for the Temple of Dibella, you'll be safe, Jelsia, dear, for I will protect you,' she smiled, and returned to packing

Seeing Shaka’s response to the lizard-man comment, she instantly regretted saying it. She had meant it as a playful jab at his insistence on referring to Anya as mammal earlier, but it was obviously much more serious to him than it was to her. “Good, then I won’t catch you bemoaning the fact that you are Argonian and Anya Bosmer again.

He patted the bank next to him. "Bemoaning it? No. But doing something to change it . . . . Even if it's illegal to all the secular and religious authorities . . . ."

"Let's just say that I'm thinking outside of the box I'm in, these days. Metamorphosis hasn't done you much harm. Except for your relationship with Shai, who I think might herself be growing from this change."

"Anyway, thanks for letting me go on. Do you want to head back to town, or what?"

Vaan and Necron both smiled enthusiastically.  The pair of them were proud to have this opportunity.  As a matter of fact, it even felt better than re-starting the ordinator corp.

They couldn't stop smiling.

"Wait patiently," Allerleirauh said. "Listen carefully to those around you. Be faithful, as many will try to draw you from the true faith. Presently we will have other orders."

She, Solin, and Arynel would have to lay out a new Rule for a new order - the military arm of the New Temple.

She took her leave of them, and returned to the castle, as she had promised.

3E397 Evermore, Highrock

'Lord Landon! We must flee now!' the soldier said
'No, we cant, we must wait for the Baron to Return!' Lord Landon replied, 'Manavrio is on to us, yes, but if he gets the jewels, all is lost!'
'Hes right, Dragonstar has fallen, its only a matter of time before this city falls. But even so, the Jewels are far more Important,' Zoranzar replied, 'I must prepare for the Ritual,' the Mage disappeared into the backroom.
'And now we wait,' Landon said slowly, 'wait for Baron Biennie to return'
Several hours passed as the storm became stronger, howling could be heard from the back room, as Zoranzar returned, his golden skin sullen from the long nights work, 'the ritual is ready, where is that baron? He should be here by now…' the door burst open, and in walked Baron Biennie, his leather cloak stained by the rain, his face scratched by the battles, 'I believe we have mislead him for the time being, is the ritual ready?'
'Yes it is,' Zoranzar replied angrily, 'you took your time'
'Be quiet!' Baron Biennie replied somewhat angrily, 'we must start immediately'
the three of them made their way into a back room, covered in runes, with five cages on the edge of a Penticle. Daedric letters lined the stars outer edges, but a language Biennie or Landon could not decipher. Within the cages were five animals, a cat, a dog, a ferret, an owl and a rat, 'Place a jewel on each of the cages,' Zoranzar said, as he stood in the centre of the circle. The two nobles placed the stones on each of the cages, as the Altmer began his chant. The Penticle glowed a faint red colour, and those sensitive to the power of Magicka could feel something coming…
'Pasha zarantra loras modrast
hesra possed contra lonetsr'

'Stones of the demons be gone!' Yelled the mage, as a bright light engulfed the room, and the stones were… gone.
'I'm drained, take the animals and go, I'll hold off Manavrio if he arrives, give me time to rest!'
'How do we dispell this enchantment?' Landon asked
You need an elemental alter to remove it. Your associate, Melenvar Ciccero has taken the Sigil Pendent for safe keeping. Even if he gets all the stones, they will be useless without the pendent! Quickly, go! Out the back door, I sense someone coming!' Zoranzar said, before the scream of a guard was heard in the next room. The two nobles gathered the animals and ran… out the back door, as Zoranzar prepared to face his foe
'Manavrio, today you meet your end!' the Altmer yelled as the Lich slowly made his way into the room, 'You will never get the stones, NEVER!'
'And how do you intend to stop me?' asked the Lich
Zoranzar placed his hands together, 'Like this!' he yelled, whilst praying in his head, 'I'm sorry Baron, for not keeping my promise'

The explosion ripped through the building destroying much of the city block, setting houses on fire in neighbouring blocks. The two nobles only just escaped the radius of the blast, stopped and turned around, saying a silent prayer for their fallen comrade, they mounted their horses, and made their way to Wayrest

Loranna's Study

Loranna had kept in the background while Goranthir spoke with Barenziah, struggling to keep her mind from racing too far ahead. Now that war was actually here, there were a million things that suggested themselves as needing to be done, and Loranna had to remind herself that she wasn't expected to do all of them herself - a good noble is supposed to know when to delegate.

Still, it was hard; she had studied to be a healer partly to help her friends in action, but Ald Raathim needed her as a noble more than a healer now ...

Allie's entrnce rouses Loranna from her thoughts, and she smiles. "Hail Allie," she says, her tone quiet but her smile genuine.

"I feel older, and not nearly old enough."

He had meant to ask her for advice about Ymalna. But he found, facing her, that he couldn't confess to what he had done. It wasn't his secret to tell.

In fact, just running through the act of telling her in his head, the solution to his problem was obvious. Put Ymalna on a carriage instantly. Send her to one of the large country houses. Ask a friend to introduce her to the social life there. Let her have her own life.

"It's silly," Tris said. "But I'm much more clever with you around. I've been fretting over problems that had obvious solutions. You make me more focused, somehow."

A few moments later an ash-skinned arrow split the reflection of Masser. Telera swam as deep as she could manage, flying back to the surface when her lungs protested and sparing only enough time to take a breath before going back under.

After a minute of this hectic pace she stopped herself a foot or so below the surface looking at the sky through the rippling water. She tried to relax completely, letting herself drift with the current just below the surface. She came up a minute later, forcing her breathing into a normal pattern after the first ragged breath.

Barenziah's robe slipped to the floor.

"Some call it charity, but it so happens," she said. "That I have a weakness for grateful men."

*

"I can be very grateful," Tris said, breathlessly.

He was clearly not going to arrive in time for dinner tonight. His sister would kill him. Not to mention Loranna and Goranthir, whom he had told to wait for him.

He thought of this only for a moment, and then not again for quite a long time.

QUOTE(Loranna @ Oct 20 2005, 12:29 AM)

"We will have to think of a beter name eventually," Loranna says, her tone teasing, but just a little.

"I would like to have Aricyn here for his expertese," she says, frowning again, thinking of the tall white-haired Nord Tongue.  "But since we first realized how bad the ghost problem was, I haven't heard anything from him ..."

"If we are to have a fleet, we'll need money," she says.  "I can talk to Tris about helping to finance it, work out a deal with him."

*

Goranthir frowned when Loranna talked about wanting someone with more experience, but at the end, Goranthir laughed. "Just because Tris is throwing his money around doesn't mean he's the only rich boy in town. I think I offered to build you a fleet months ago."

He went to the door. "I didn't mean to interrupt, but give me the word, and I'll fill this bloody coastline with warships."

"Arynel can find Aricyn, if we want to try to reel him in," Allerleirauh said. "When last I saw him, he had the look of a Nord searching for something. If he's found it, we may have a chance."

She followed Goranthir. "I was teasing about the name, but not about you. Your father's folk are even greater seamen than the Nords, and I see it's been in your blood from the beginning."

She rested a hand on the small of his back. He was never younger than when he was being touchy about being thought young.

Loranna gets an apologetic look. "I know, you did," she says, "I think it's time to give the word; we're going to need protection for our shipping lanes."

"... I know what we get like when we're searching for something, but we probably should at least try to find him," Loranna says. "It's good to have a Tongue on your side."

She smiles a bit, defering to the Altmer's proficiency in seamanship as Allie points out. Goranthir was young, but he had wisdom in him; he would make a good naval commander.

Goranthir smiled, embarrassed. "I just want to help out, but I think I just came off as a brat with a bank account. I suppose even if I'm not to be high admiral, I can at least scout the coasts and make sure we're all alright ... Because that's something you and Tris can't do, right?"

"I'll do that now then," Goranthir nodded. "I don't mind if someone else commands them, really. It's probably best to get someone with experience, like you say."

"Yes," Allerleirauh said. "Void Rangers are not powerless over water, but a great many of our best tricks are useless. Goranthir, to be frank: perceived authority is important to any commander. You have a commanding presence, and you are beautiful enough that you naturally inspire devotion. But I'm not sure if those factors are enough to overcome your youth."

"I know that philosophically, I just don't look in the mirror enough to know it applies to me," Goranthir smiled sadly. "Every day, I feel two days older."

Goranthir left on a brisk walk to tell his crew on the Akarvina to patrol the coastline for trouble.

Then he went to the Mages Guild to use the Guild Guide to take him to the place with the largest shipyard in Tamriel. Solitude in Skyrim.

Loranna smiles sadly. "Honestly, I feel like I went from thirteen to thirty in the past year," she says, "and I'm grateful for it myself - even if I've missed a bit on the way."

She takes a deep breath. "... Time to find out how well I've learned how to be a noble," she says. "The hardest part right now is telling myself I'm not supposed to actually be doing everything, nor thinking that this war's going to be like adventuring, only with a lot more people around."

She smiles again. "Thank you, again, for everything."

Loranna raises her eyebrows, picturing Allie in her Welwa form.

"At the risk of sounding denigrating, you're very good at what you do," she says, giving Allie a tentative smile.

"I think we've convered everything we can do at this point," she says. "Mind if we talk about something completely different for a bit? War or no war, I still intend on having my wedding soon."

"I need to get some sewing done," Allerleirauh said, smiling with just her eyes. "For you, and for Goranthir. He's so well-dressed, though. It's hard to give him gifts. Not like the ragged urchin Arynel was when I met him."

Startled, he laughed.  "Minx!"  he called out, and gave chase.

A few moments later, he caught an ankle and briefly tugged her backwards.  With a slap to a curvaceous backside, Shaka took the lead.

*

Telera briefly wondered what was with people slapping her derriere recently. Then she decided there was no way she was letting Shaka win without challenge and cast swiftswim passing Shaka easily. She flipped around to wave at Shaka her eyes flashing with exuberance before veering left and down, a few seconds later she was back to normal speed and Shaka was catching up again.

Loranna laughs, an explosion of mirth crinkling her features and shaking her sides.

"Aaaaahhhh ..." Loranna shakes her head, still smiling. "Men sometimes ... always one extreme or the other."

The conversation turned to clothes from there, both for men and for weddings. It was a more cheerful subject to discuss than most of the day's previous topics.

After talking with Arynel, Isidor had sat by himself, to do some thinking. After a while, he realized he needed to apologize to Kethiah.

Fish scattered from the two's approach, as moonlight illuminated their game. For a while, Shaka forgot the approaching storm of civil war; he assumed Telera felt it as well.

The warmblood and coldblood swam next to each other for some while before Shaka stopped, good-naturedly conceding the race. Shaka drifted and waited for the victor.

Kethiah, as usual, had not been still. In addition to the various meetings she was having with importers and exporters in the rooms upstairs on behalf of the Lady of Daruhn, she had been serving guests and making sure the staff was efficient and honest.

But then she found Isidor. "We should go to school and walk the children home. Who knows what rumors they might have heard."
