The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses
Posted by: Loranna Oct 18 2005, 04:50 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing
threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it Also,
read http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as
possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are
encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for
some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is
not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there
for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna: Loranna has recently returned from Wayrest, where she
attended Tris's father's funeral, briefly conspired with Allie and Goranthir to
rescue Tris form Elysana's clutches, and discovered it wasn't Elysana Tris
needed to worry about, it was his family and his father's contacts. Having
returned to Ald Raathim, Loranna is spending the rest of the evening in
Slyvos's arms, dancing at the Nymph and Noggin's grand opening - though she did
get one dance in with Tris first

Ahjaar shook her head. "No... that's okay... i'm sure she'll talk when she
wants too.."
She stared off into the crowd.

Shaka
saw Allerleirauh and Goranthir kiss, and those who knew him best would be able
to tell his gaze became wistful, or as much as an Argonian could appear.
"Must be nice, to have lips," he murmured to Telera. "I
knew what it was like in the Spheres, briefly."
‘Wait, he’s envious of- oh, there’s no way in hell I can say anything about
kissing Anya to him right now, let alone loving her,’ Telera thought,
looking quite serious for a second, before replying gaily, “Must be nice having
a tail, easier to keep on your feet.”

Alexi jogged forward quickly. Sash's arrow might of
cleared the room ahead, but it definately alerted the rest of the bandits.
Alexi entered another passageway and was greeted by two arrows thunking into
his sheild. A bosmer and Breton were at the other end of the passage, knocking
another arrow. Alexi thought of his chances. The shield protected his
vitals, but he could still be taken down.
Alexi threw down the sheild and raised his hand. The ring on his middle finger
glowed, and then shot out a fireball. Both the bandits were engulfed in the
flames. Alexi hurridly picked up his sheild and continued forward.

ooc summaries:
Allerleirauh is enjoying herself with Goranthir at the grand opening of the
Nymph and Noggin.
Tris, who needs to return to Wayrest tomorrow for the settling of his father's
estate, is not quite at the party. He's sitting on a hill overlooking the
garden, in the dark, under some trees. He's a little wrapped up in his own
affairs, but not so much so that he's not wondering what's up with Kethiah's
vision.
Dragon has been absent from the construction at Ald Raathim. He's spying for Allie;
earlier at the party he pulled her aside to talk.
Meanwhile in Wayrest, Tris's sharp-tongued sister Iolanthe is reading a book
and hiding from her aunts, who think she could be pretty if she would only do
something with her hair, dear. Tris's stepmother, his father's widow, Ymalna,
is sobbing in her bedroom after a failed attempt to kill Tris and an even more
doomed attempt to rip his clothes off and have sex with him. Ymalna's four
month old baby, and Tris's primary rival for the inheritence, Aubrian, is being
passed around by many warm-hearted funeral goers who keep making comments about
new life being such a comfort at these times. Since Aubrian is only barely
aware of anything farther than ten feet away, he's untroubled by the events
entangling him. Tris's cousin Fredelar (whom Tris calls Freder) made a
transparent attempt to feel Tris's friends out at the funeral reception; he
seems to need money. The last key member of the family, Tris's 10 year old
brother Oro, is drumming his heels against the side of his bed in frustration
and making as much noise as possible to demonstrate that he has NOT been
successfully put to bed like a little child after a facedown with Goranthir.
Oro made a very inappropriate comment about Goranthir's relationship with Tris.
He also told everyone that Tris would be the ruin of the family fortune. Oro
seems to have taken it upon himself to fill the shoes of his late father,
literally, by imitating every aspect of his behavior.

Summary
Goranthir, Prince of Firsthold, is at the opening of the Nymph and
Noggin, dancing with Allerleirauh.
Elysana, Queen of Wayrest, is at the Royal Dome in her city, having
uncharacteristically forgiven Tris Gaerington and Ciel Dolbinien their acts of
treason, asuming them to be under the influence of the late Lord Laurent
Lyonswurst.
Helseth, Barenziah, and Dres Vendama are in Mournhold, preparing
to put the pressure on the Houses Redoran and Indoril to agree to alliances
with the throne.
Kethiah, the ex-assassin, had been meeting and greeting (and correcting
the staff), at the grand opening of the tavern he runs with Isidor, the Nymph
and Noggin, in Ald Raathim.

Finding her, he said, "It's going great, huh?"
"Much better than I expected," said Kethiah, giving him a kiss.
"We have quite a crowd, almost all the rooms are booked up, Lady Loranna
showed up, and I only had to fire one server who was stealing. I think we might
just make a success of this place."
"One thing that we're going to have to keep our eyes and ears open for is
the threat of civil war, a lot of the captains are worried about it ... and a
lot of them are thinking they can make a far bundle off of it ... Opinion seems
fairly divided as to whether House Redoran and House Indoril have formed an
alliance, or if that's just a rumor."

Gnisis
The council has summoned a represenative of the Redoran Nobel factions. After a
brief discusion and chastening the council makes the Nobel issue a statement.
The statement turns out to be rather vague announcement that there is no
announcement to be made at this time and if there is any to be made one will be
made when appropriate. Everybody is told to stop spreading rumors and to just
go home.
The crowd does disperse but most leave for the local bar where they continue
their speculation and exchanges of ideas on what they think is going on in the
council hall. This has little effect on rumors that has already reached beyond
Gnisis.

Ald Raathim, next morning:
Goranthir had suggested sleeping on the Akarvina; Allerleirauh had convinced
him that it would be good for them to patronize Kethiah and Isidor's new
establishment.
Her true reason for not wanting to sleep over water was revealed late at night
when Dragon arrived. Dragon was an old hand at sneaking around, both within the
Void and by more mundane methods. The boy didn't wake. She spoke with Dragon,
and he departed, and she returned to bed.
They didn't have another visitor until morning, when Tris came.
He was fully dressed. In black, again. But hardly conservative. His buttons
were jet. The embroidery on his cuffs and collar was dark green, and so he
looked a little less like Death walking abroad than he had the day before.
Tris stood outside the door and thought of knocking. Then he slipped into the
Void, and inside the room, to wake them both with a kiss.

Slashes-With-Claws examines the stash of stollen goods. Well, I'm sure the lord
of the city will be glad to have this stuff returned, he thought.
Slashes swam back through the short underrwater tunnel that led to the stash.
He emerged from the water, the dunmer guard was waiting for him. "Find
anything?" the guard asked.
"Yes, I have found where they are hiding the stollen goods. Once the cave
is clear we should recover as much as we can and tell the town captain of the
rest."

Bal Tereg, Morrowind
The ancient stone fortress had stood over the little inlet of the Oueda
Gla'amnir for over a thousand years. Vivec himself had stayed there on more
than one occasion, though it was not grand by any means.
Rings within rings of stone suggested even older civilizations had made their
home there. The village had lived in peace, farming and fishing in the Inner
Sea, under the protection of the fortress.
The men, women, and children of Bal Tereg slept peacefully that night, under
the flag of Indoril, with gentle night sea breezes blowing.

He stopped talking for a few moments.
"There, that will give me something to think about during the long,
tedious hours of meeting with solicitors."
Allerleirauh sat down behind him, and ran her fingers through the back of his

He kissed her, and went to the Mages' Guild. He could have saved a few coins by
traveling quickly; but on such a day it was good to have a mundane record of
his movements, in case anyone was following.

"So, it is to be a formal meeting today?" Barenziah said, stepping in
to the throne room, and noting that Helseth was wearing his robes of state and
crown. "No half-naked sparring in the exercise room?"
"No, I don't see any reason to be subtle," Helseth replied seriously.
Barenziah laughed. "Do you want me here?"
"No, take yourself and Vendama away to one of the country houses in case
there's trouble."
Barenziah looked at her son and nodded. "Don't lose your temper."
"I'll try not to," Helseth replied, even smiling a little.
"This came for you ten minutes ago," Barenziah said, handing Helseth
the report. The seal had been broken, but that was not unusual. Barenziah
usually read the reports as they came in as well. "I will see you

Helseth nodded, and read the report.

"One thing that we're going to have to keep our eyes and ears open for is
the threat of civil war, a lot of the captains are worried about it ... and a
lot of them are thinking they can make a far bundle off of it ... Opinion seems

The Chapel of Akatosh, The Royal Dome of
Wayrest
The Queen's personal chapel in the Royal Dome was big enough to be a cathedral,
though like most churches to Akatosh, it was not the wide open, vaulted
arrangement of the other Nine. The ceilings were comparatively low,
crisscrossed with columns, so it seemed like a cross between a maze and a cave.
Footfall always echoed.
Persons concerned with the Will of Count Sternhart were led through the chapel
by one of the priests, to the sancristy and hall of records in the back, behind
the fearsome stone statue of the Dragon God of Time.
The Sancristy was no less cave-like, particularly as being a part of the
curvilinear arrangement of all parts of the Dome of Wayrest.
Elysana was not present. She would be the last to arrive.

Tris had wanted to be on time. But he was a few minutes late. He had stopped at
the tower of the Knights of the Rose to leave a letter for Ciel.
Why a letter? That's not like me.
Too many things he wanted to say but wasn't ready to say yet, that was why. It
was harder to do something stupid in a letter. You could read it over and rip
it up and start over until you got something that said enough but not too much.
Just the right air of breezy casualness, which had taken him twenty minutes for
three lines.
Estate gets settled today - wish me luck. Let me know when you're settled.
Love you.
Heads turned as he entered the room. He recognized most of the people there,
but not all of them. Ymalna, with the baby in the arms of a nurse, beside her.
His sister, his brother. Father's business partners.
A slim man with greying, receding hair, wearing mayorial robes and chain,
winked at him. Tris looked at him blankly, then smiled in spite of himself. The
mayor of Northbridge. He was rumored to like attractive young men. Once Tris's
friends had dared him to kiss the mayor at a party, and there had been a
scandal, and a separation. Apparently there were no hard feelings.
There was a seat open in the very first row. Close, but not too close, to
Ymalna. Of course. They were expecting him.
Tris took his seat, and waited for the Queen to arrive.

Everyone shuffled to their feet and bowed as the Queen and the Archpriest of
Akatosh entered and took their seats.
"We will proceed," said Elysana simply, her eyes going around the
table, looking at each and every person present, taking in every detail.
Who was angry, who was nervous ... She didn't miss a thing, and everyone knew
it.
The Archpriest motioned to his scribe to begin taking notes, and nodded to the
family's solicitor to begin the reading.
There was a long list of bequests. Amounts of money that made Tris roll his
eyes, but which were, apparently, trivial in comparison to the total amount of
the inheritance.
Many contributions to charities. To financial partners. A yearly banquet to be
held at Alistaire Gaerington's expense for the Guild of Dockworkers. A dowry
for Iolanthe. A manor house and a yearly allowance for Oro.
Tris became gradually aware that his own name had not been mentioned.
Then the stinger in the tail of the scorpion: all these bequests were to be
made at the discretion of the legatee. They were requests, from the dead man,
that his wishes be honored. They had no force of law.
Tris's name hadn't been mentioned in the bequests because he was the inheritor
of the entire estate.
"We proceed now to points of law," the solicitor said, and told them
what Tris knew already, that his mother's property belonged by ancient custom
to the first born son. Then a reading of the family records. His name and
birthdate. Another solicitor asked if he were present and Tris said yes.
The priest of Akatosh came forward, speaking from a large book about the nature
of temporal dynasties. The language was archaic. But Tris had joined the temple
of Dibella at the age of thirteen; he didn't recognize the passages.
The mayor of Northbridge stepped forward, bearing a scroll ornamented with a
crest displaying a ship's wheel and a stag's head.
The patent establishing the house of Sternhart was very much what Tris had
expected. Some blither about protecting the woods and waterways of the county,
and so on. The title to pass to a suitable male heir selected by the crowned
sovereign of Wayrest from among the available heirs.
Now, that was unexpected.
Another solicitor. This one patted Ymalna's thigh as she stood up. She had with
her Ymalna and Alistaire Gaerington's wedding contract. There had been various
documents signed at that time. These were also read, at tedious length, and
then the solicitors proceeded to have a polite argument. Apparently these
documents weren't binding either, or they were lesser in force to some other
documents, or something.
Tris glanced desperately at his sister, who whispered in his ear. "Idiot.
Should have brought your own lawyer.
"Your majesty," the last solicitor said, at last, bowing.

"Your majesty," Ymalna whispered. "Your majesty, the title only
belonged to his father because I married him, how can this be?"
Two of the queen's guards, ceremonially dressed, began moving towards Ymalna.
Her solicitor, with desperate glances towards the queen, began whispering
something about a legal principle with a long merish name that had to do with
shielding a sole woman.
Oro was gasping for breath. His father had told him he would be the heir. Told
him that Tris would be tracked down and dealt with, and Ymalna taken out of the
picture as soon as her child was born. His father had been wrong. It wasn't
possible.
"Your majesty," Tris said, to Elysana.
They were interrupted by the echoing thud of the child's body hitting the stone
floor. Oro had worked himself into a faint.

Isidor nodded and said, "We can only hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and enjoy the present."
Shaka finished his breakfast and rose from the table. "Take care of
yourself and your family, Isidor," he said, and clasped the Nord's forearm
in farewell. "I'm not going to run from this town, any more than I did
when Raithmat's ghost threatened to drown it."
"You can count on me to the end. All of Loranna's people can."

Thoryn remained passive, content to let the Redoran
councilor speak. The proposal had been discussed in great detail before hand by
both houses.

Drakar
shows no reaction and continues in his normal low calm voice.
"Our counter-proposal is based on the original proposal. It addresses the
concerns of all the Council and the Nobels. The Council will support it. You
expected us to take the very first offer ? An allience such as you propose
takes time and a lot of compromise."
"The joint offer is practical and praugmatic. Both houses will pass this
allience proposal. We, of course, expect there to be further discourse over the
deatails, but this proposal still stands on the same common ground we spoke
of."
"Common ground has a funny way of eroding with each passing tide,"
Helseth growled. "I was exceptionally generous and patient throughout your
ridiculous bureaucratic delays, while every milky-headed, grasping noble of
both your Houses puked up his little inclusion, his contribution to the
contract. I will not play this game of bureaucracy with you, agreeing to an
alliance only to have its terms in endless flux. You overestimate the
importance of your Houses to Morrowind. Do not be an impediment to my
will."

QUOTE(Allerleirauh @ Oct 18 2005, 06:21 PM)
"Your
majesty," Ymalna whispered. "Your majesty, the title only
belonged to his father because I married him, how can this be?"
Two of the queen's guards, ceremonially dressed, began moving towards Ymalna.
Her solicitor, with desperate glances towards the queen, began whispering something
about a legal principle with a long merish name that had to do with shielding a
sole woman.
Elysana rolled her eyes. Fainting was even more tedious than weeping.
With a gesture, the priests came to carry Oro away, give him water and see to
any minor injuries his fall might have caused.
They proceeded with the investiture ceremony, a religious occasion of such
ancient arrangement, no one present, not even the archpriest, was completely
sure what they were saying, or what the emblems and symbols truly meant.
The result, though, was crystal clear. Tris Gaerington had the rights and
responsibilities of the title Count Sternhart of Wayrest.

"I am king," Helseth said. "Tell your councils that. Tell them

Afterwards there was a moment when no one was around but Iolanthe.
"Your poor hair," Iolanthe said.
"Probably keep it to use in spells if I ever betray the Crown," Tris
said, only half joking. "Does it look that bad?"
"Well, it's not subtle. Nice good whack out of it. I was afraid the priest
would take your ear off." She mimicked the Archpriests's assistant, a very
elderly man with palsied hands. "Imagine letting that man near bladed
implements."
"What now?" Tris wondered out loud.
"Well, if my guess is right, her majesty will invite you to dinner at the
Dome sometime within the next week, and you'll be expected to make polite
conversation."
"No, I mean - what now. Do I go home? Live with Ymalna? Kick her
out?" Tris was shaken by his brother's disappearance. He hadn't imagined
Oro could faint. And he hadn't come back.
"Well, I would. She's probably slashing the tapestries and setting a slow
fire in the panelling as we speak."
Tris was suddenly so tired he could barely hold his eyes open.
"I need my friends," he said. "Go home. Kick everyone out but
the people who currently live there. You can move back in if you want to. And
take this."
He handed her his jacket.
Tris stepped outside, but did not call for a carriage. Instead, he took off
running. It was a wonderful feeling, the way he had seen the Void the very
first time. Faster, and faster, until everything was a grey blur. And then...
suddenly you could go as fast as you wanted.
He emerged in Ald Raathim, and went looking, first, for Loranna.

Red Falcon cruised steadily southward. Each crewman was doing his job to
the full extent, lest their captain find them slacking off. Inside of his cabin
Falco spoke with his mage, Erlycn.
"Are those rings ready yet?"
"Yes captain. They're right here."
He produced two small rings, one of recall, one of mark.
"Excellent. You're by far my most efficient crewman. Well besides Grugzock
here." He pointed to the orcish bodyguard. The orc smiled. He liked it
when his captain praised him.
"Sir, there is something I must know."
"Yes."
"Rumors of war sir...tension....I got quite a bit of disturbing news last

"The side of good and righteousness Erlycn. Otherwise known as the side
that scum, Barenziah doesn't take."

The Nymph and Noggin, Ald Raathim
Trason was silent most of that night, busy enough as it was. There had to be
all of Ald Raathim there, it was a great success. He didn't manage to talk to
Isidor or Kethiah very much that night, nor any of the other patrons. He just
yelled at a few members on the staff, and scolded the chubby woman who kept
eating the oysters. Before they all left that night, he congradulated the
staff, and gave them the next day off. He doubted they would get that much
business, half the town is hung over.
After serving Kethiah, Isidor, and there Argonian friend Shaka breakfast, he
quickly sat down as his wrists ached horribly and he couldn't feel his legs.
"Well... We did good" Trason said as a smile came through all his
pain.
"What's this I hear about a war?" He asked.
He was very uncomfortable knowing there might be a war, and that he got rid of
his weapons. He thought he should go check for them later. It was stupid, he
had hoped none of the neighborhood children found them in that bush, especially

QUOTE(Arynel @ Oct 18 2005, 07:59 PM)
“Traveling
over water and stone, by boot and by foot,” Arynel said, “I have swum in clear
waters, cold to the touch, and have ascended stony outcroppings, warmed by the
sun.”
“I wish you well in your new trade,” the Breton added.
Kethiah stepped in from the docks, where she had been inventorying the new
shipments of food in time to hear Arynel.
"You must be thirsty then?" she smiled.

Arynel smiled once more to Isidor.

"I think I could go for that ..." Loranna says. "Let me go get Slyvos ..."
Anyone who needed slyvos at this time could probably see him sitting on the
edge of one of the castle windows, with a soulgem in hand and a lute in the
other.
'now I wonder if this will work...'
He went about trying to enchant the damnable thing, trying to see if he could
make instruments play themselves.

He kissed her, and walked to the Nymph and Noggin, where he told the house
drinks were on him - for the night. He could afford it.
Reichi came down from the room he had rented upstairs in the Nymph and Noggin
in time to hear this declaration. Had he not been so hung-over he would have
taken Tris up on the offer, instead he groaned a curse and slumped into a
chair, near to the others.

shook her head and raised her hand to decline the drink, "No more for me,
thank you very much, at elast for the day."
"Tris inherited the title? How did this happen?"
"I don't know the details, but it sounds as if his father has passed from
natural causes," said Shaka. "He's the rightful heir apparently, and
Elysana has even pardoned him and Ciel. . . . Tris can tell it all better than
I can, though."

QUOTE(Arynel @ Oct 18 2005, 11:03 PM)
Arynel’s
expression changed to one of thoughtfulness.
“I have left her to her own, and will not speak for her,” the Breton said,
“though I believe she is wont to fetch what she finds to seek.”
"What good is a bard who won't gossip?" Tris asked. He pushed his
chair back and headed over to Shaka, Anya, and Telera.
"My nose was itching," he said. "The skies this evening foretold
lovely weather tonight... and I see they told the truth... Anya, shoot me for
that line and put me out of my misery, please."

a running start, but somehow I don't think whoever came up with that had you in
mind."

Telera made a curtsy, “My lord, how gracious of you to speak with us.” She said
in as fawning a tone as she could manage. Grinning she repeated her earlier
question to Tris, “So how did you get roped into a lordship?”

Tris grinned at Anya's comment.
"My father was Count Sternhart," Tris said. "I thought the title
went to the baby, his second wife's child, but it seems I was wrong about that.
So - I'm Lord Gaerington, Count Sternhart. As of this evening about
seven."

Gnisis
Drakar enters the Redoran council chamber and with a muted and calm voice
begins to inform his fellow members of the meeting with Helseth. The words
being devoid of emotion only served as a stark contrast to the events of that
meeting. Helseth had issued an ultimatum that they accept the original
proposal. When he came to the part of the attack on the 'Rouge' Indoril
stronghold there was silence. When he continued with the details that everyone
around it had presumably also been attacked the council was aghast..
Agents were immediatly dispatched to confirm the attack. All of the Redoran
Nobles that were practical to reach in a timely manner were summoned to Gnisis.
The Indoril Emissary also sent word for confirmation. While the Council waited
they had business.
First the council voted on the Helseth's original proposal. It was rejected in
full, to a vote. A motion was carried to begin proceedings for an alliance with
House Indoril. It would be a 'no frills' Full economic, political, and military
alliance. The agreement was only a formality. After a short discussion the
Indoril Emissary signed off on the proposal and sent it to the Indoril Council.
The Redorans selected an Ambassador to accompany the proposal. The Indoril
Council would return the gesture.
Time seemed to pass quickly into the morning as messengers continued to come
and go. Agents returned soon enough with a full report on the nature and scope
of the destruction. If Helseth wanted to prove a point, he only solidified the
Redoran resolve. There would be a letter of condemnation detailing the results
of the attack. Every Detail. Many copies were to be prepared and would be sent
to the corners of Morrowind and beyond at the appropriate time. The Indoril
were the ones to suffer the attack. Honor dictated that the Indoril be allowed
to make their response first, the Redorans would then follow suit. A formal
annoucment was drawn up and made ready. None that were present had any
illusions as to what could and would transpire. Everything was made ready in a
calm, orderly, and proper fashion. The Redorans prepared for war, and the
Council prepared a declaration of war.

how did that work out for you?" he asked Anya, intentionally leaving out

Shaka wasn't quite able to raise one eyebrow as a human would, but he shot Anya
a look that meant, I'm afraid to ask what that means; and, Be nice to him, elf.

get back to you when I remember.
"Of course... now I'm in a love triangle, so it sort of complicated the

“Ah,” Telera said, not quite following the line of succession. “I’m sorry to
hear that your father died, my condolences. Say, how did you get Elysana to pardon
…” Telera trailed off, which advice that Anya had mentioned had Tris given?

"Shaka, my dear fellow, you're not drinking," Tris said.
"Don't remember? I suggested getting a little drunk, not a lot
drunk. You're lucky you're a girl, I can't even function in that state."
He patted Anya's back sympathetically. What a crazy world.

Shaka took that as a cue to walk to the bar, so he went to get a dark beer.
Somehow he felt almost flattered by Anya's words, though she still was
uncertain about a lot of things. "A love triangle?" he murmured to
himself.

“Oh, I don’t remember everything that happened; there are quite a few holes.
And I didn’t tell you because Shaka came to the door before we could properly
talk about it. Then he fainted,” Telera said. “Most things after you asked me
to hire us a room aren’t entirely clear.”

much as allowed, Tris."
Anya turned to Telera, "I am going to order something to eat, and a mild

figured she owed Tris enough to forgive that, if he did it again though…
