The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses
Posted by: Loranna Oct 8 2005, 03:52 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing
threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it Also,
read http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737 as soon as
possible; this will give you an idea of who is in the RP.
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are
encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for
some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is
not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there
for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna: Loranna has just left Isidor and Kethiah, after having
offered moral support to the Dunmer former assassin while she met Isidor's
kids, and has arranged to talk to Kethiah later for advice on various matters.

Summary
Goranthir, Prince of Firsthold, is helping the workers in the construction of
Ald Raathim, waiting for Allerleirauh or Tris or both to come back.
Quill, the owner of the Quill Traveling Circus, is leaving for Daggerfall. He
has just received word that his sister has commited suicide, which, remarkable
in his family, is actually the truth. He does not know the story of her hellish
relationship with Lord Laurent Lyonswurst ... yet ... Travelling with him is
Allerleirauh's erstwhile Void Ranger Mirea, who is now an acrobat in his
circus.
Kethiah has just met her lover Isidor's kids. When she recovers enough from the
injuries sustained in her fight with Herwyn Brand, she intends to go shopping
for a house. Right now the idea of buying the new inn being constructed on the
docks appeals to her.
OOC -- And I'm outta here for the night.

ooc: Isidor, male nord, is with his injured lover
Kethiah, discussing plans to buy a house, Isidor's children, and why sex and
money cause couples to have problems.
Tilitalia and Tyradil, Isidor's children, are working on their schoolwork.
Tyradil is also dreaming about Davala, the dunmer girl he was seen kissing near
the school.
Tsei, female argonian, is in a tavern in Daggerfall, very upset after hearing
about the Countess of Ivytide's death, after talking with said countess in a

of 'em way back when the grouo had gone off to a Daedric shrine and met
Anya."
"The stuff's, well, weird. It changes to suit a Werewolf, I've tested it.
The helmet at least, I saw the guantlets change back in solstheim. This stuff's
awesome. Gotta find the rest someday. Seems like a Werecreature armor, I can
only guess who made the stuff, but who did obviously intended it to be used by
a Werecreature, but the silver-claws on the guantlets, are unusual."

ooc summaries:
Allerleirauh had a talk with Herwyn Brand, Queen Elysana of Wayrest's
spymaster, about his mysterious inability to kill Kethiah, then sent him to
talk to
Skein. Newer visitors to the roleplay may not have seen her before; she
hasn't made an appearance in a while. She's Solunastra's seer, a mysterious
woman who predicts the future by observing the pathing of the Mundus, mostly by
reading spider webs. She and Herwyn seem to have hit it off splendidly. She
told him to expect an offer of some kind from Barenziah, through a double-agent
in his employ.
Tris Gaerington left the shards of his broken ebony sword with Floki
Longhammer, Ald Raathim's master smith. He cares deeply for his sword; he got
it from a Golden Saint who made him an interesting offer, once upon a time,
which he refused, and he considers the sword something of a trophy of his
integrity.
Mirea is delighted to be erstwhile, although she doesn't know what that means,
but less than delighted to be journeying with Quill to investigate the death of
his sister Lelia, Countess of Ivytyde. Mirea is under the mistaken impression
that Lelia was murdered by someone with a connection to the death of her
mother.
Jelsia, priestess of Dibella, is at the House of Dibella in the Imperial City,
still recovering from the shock of an attack by... restaurantuers.

Fergusson, just asked Kallen where he should work to help out with the
construction.
Joshua Fergusson, Shrine Sergeant and Knight Errant of the Hawkmoth Legion
Fort, looked around for the Arena. He spotted it and started walking towards
it.
When he got there, he stripped off his shirt, belt, and money bag. He then hid
the money bag under the shirt. He went down into the trenches and began work on
expanding the Arena.

"No I shall be off now." T'Zar turned and left for the mages guild.
Once she reached Winterhold, and subsequently the Gull she made her first

"Well I'll be going now to continue my assignment."
"That won't be necessary."
She was surprised at this comment. "Captain?"
A slash of a saber and her throat was cut. She died instantly. "I do not

Grugzock the orc bodyguard stared in shock at this swift and brutal execution.
"Grugzock, clean this corpse up"
He nodded and complied, still in shock.

Later, in Ald Raathim
Loranna reads a crumpled letter, delivered to her by her guard:
Dear Loranna,
It has come to my attention that a certain agent of mine, was caught spying and
eavesdropping within your local tavern. Of her conduct I highly dissaprove.
You see, she was ordered to stay in the tavern and keep an ear open for any
news or rumors circulating the town., especially when said news and rumors
pertains to your companions. However she misunderstood her orders and took it
upon herself to eavesdrop, spy, and otherwise engage in such deplorable acts of
the nature of espionage. I apologize for this inconvenience.
She was followed by Anya and Teleran, or whatever he or she calls
himself/herself now. Once at my place of residence Teleran destroyed a piece of
my cieling and made dire death threats. The two of them confiscated my agent's
reports. To this I held no objection as I had no interest in the incorrect
information she brought. You can get the full story from Teleran and Anya.
So this is a letter of formal apology, I am sorry for this inconvenience. Upon
arriving back to my current place of residence my agent will be executed for
her foolishness and inability to follow orders. Have a nice day.
Sincerely, Falco
Alone in her study, Loranna sighs quietly.

Mirea is under the mistaken impression that Lelia was murdered by someone with a connection to the death of her mother.
Daggerfall
Quill hated traveling by Guild Guides, but if he was to get to Daggerfall and
settle his sister’s will, and come to some understanding of her senseless
suicide, he had to move quickly, and there was no faster way. Within a few
minutes, he and Mirea were no longer in Lainlyn, Hammerfell, but in Daggerfall,
High Rock.
He had been mostly silent during the trip, but Mirea could see that his mood
had changed from bewilderment to anger. But it was an unfocused anger with no
particular target yet. If his sister Lelia had commited suicide, he was furious
with her for not telling him that anything was troubling her. If it was murder,
well, then, obviously the anger was much less muddled with pity, and was
directed towards her killer.
Ivytyde House is the type of country house everyone dreams of. Its ancient
history as a fortress had been well disguised, and now it was a very grand, but
very comfortable manor.
“My Lord Dygbal,” said the major domo upon their arrival. “I am so sorry to see
you again under such tragic circumstances.”
“I do not understand these circumstances,” said Quill, who was known as Dygbal,
his birth name, in Daggerfall. “You will have to explain them. Was she
unhappy?”
“Not in any way she made known to me,” the servant said, uncomfortably. “She
was always the portrait of youth and levity, but … there was something
different. The Countess would sometimes look as if she had been crying, and she
wasn’t as close to the servants as she used to be during the time of your
mother.”
“My sister may have gotten full of herself because of the title,” Quill
suggested. “Well, we’ll have a look over the financial records, her personal
schedule, what parties she went to … See if we can make some sense of this.”
“Very good, my lord.”

"Tell me what happened when you followed her back to Falco," Loranna

Falco's recounting."
"Let's see. An Altmer entered the tavern, a few hours before the banquet.
T'Zar up and left with him. We followed them to Winterhold where Falco had
aquired a pirate ship, trapped at the dock by a blizzard. Swift Gull I
think it was called at the moment."
She paused to remember the rest of the events. "I managed to sneak into
the cabin, but didn't credit Falco with a strong sense of smell, and he found
me out. He told me much the same story you read now. Later Telera made a nasty
hole in the ship and pretty much denouced Falco, shredding the documents in the
process. He let us leave after that."
"The story isn't much different, but that's not what unnerved me. It was
the way he acted. Very cold, very calculated. When he spoke of his
suboridnates, or looked at them, he saw them as tools and not comrades.
"I wouldn't think Falco would be one to mince words enough that he would
send a trained nightblade scurrying around a tavern. Even here was very careful
in what he said, even if it wasn't the right thing. The thing is, I don't think
he's right in the head anymore. He still sees me, at least, as a friend, even
after all he's done. I think I might be welcome on that ship. Then again, that
might just be the impression he wanted to leave, rather than sincerity.
"When I talked with him, in his voice, it felt as if he lost whatever
morality he once held. I honestly don't think he just sent her to listen. He's
planning something, and he undoubtedly thinks he has the upperhand since he
knows the castle inside and out."

watch on him?” Telera said, sounding numb, “Sure, love to.”
Shaking off the malaise, she started again, “I won't allow him to harm Daruh.
How will we keep watch if he goes out to sea though? He won’t stay bound in
Winterhold once the winds change.”
"I'm not sure what you can do to watch him if he's taken to the high
seas," Loranna concurs. "But do keep your eyes open, and if you see
anything suspicious, let me know. If Falco is foolish enough to send another
spy to Daruhn, we'll send it back with interest."
She shakes her head. "Maybe he's suicidal ..." she wonders aloud,
thinking back to what little she saw of Falco when she touched the Tome. She
never really understood what made him tick ...

"I'll do what I can. I don't think he's suicidal, just unwise. As smart as
he is, he's making the wrong choice here. Falco is just a common theif with a
run of good luck."I can handle a thief, I have no problems with them, and
even if I did catch one, I wouldn't be severe. I know what can drive some and
why they disregard law. But Falco, that traitor? For one to so casually throw

Loranna allows herself a thin-lipped smile. "Oddly enough, I still hope

... But not enough to go out of my way to help him do so, anymore."
"Thank you both again for helping with this situation," Loranna says,
turning back to her papers. "I'll see you both later."

OOC: Vaan has managed to limp back towards
the canyon city, and is now preparing to head elsewhere, rumours from fellow
tourists draw him towards the impending possibility of war in Morrowind.
Vaan sat on the bed of his rented room in the Inn, his plans were becoming increasingly
complicated.
A War in Morrowind, now there was a thought...and as terrible as wars were,
'specially those fought by Dunmer, it held...oppurtunity.
Vaan took out a bundle from his cloak, and unwrappedit. Three white glowing
stones were revealed, the Command Humanoid Stones, they could come in useful,
for more things perhaps, than he had originally intended.
His mind turned to the desert Fiasco, now long ago. The rings used for a Slave
Army reminded him of what he was holding in his hand. Perhaps...by slaughtering
those mages, he had stopped another potential evil.
he smiled at the thought, of having stopped such evil.
but back to this war. he decided to head to Ald Raathim, he knew people there,
reliable people. Maybe he could get Loranna to teach him some healing Spells,
since for first time in his life, he had come close to losing....
There was a thought...
he had come close to losing..
he had been too confident.
"look at yourself" thought his mind suddenly "Look at you,
Ordinator, you've never left the past, so used to bullying Innocent faithful,
and now, now that someone's finally fought back, you werent ready. The present
has no place for your over-confidence, you can't go on expecting to win."
"You've hidden forever, behind the mask of Chaos, Ha, so elegant that was,
so...burgois. Sure, you've got skill. But hell, others have too, you need to
accept that."
"You've gone up too many notches, you need to be chucked back down again.
Think like a weak person, think like the underdog. Then, you'll get far."
"You arent an Ordinator Anymore, so stop thinking like one."
Vaan sighed....it was all true.....he was hiding...too confident....
In the coming war, he'd now know what to do....
Off to Ald Raathim then...
With the stones...

There’s something you should know. Do you remember the spy that was here a day

Well, we eavesdropped on her report and were caught. After a brief conversation

Alexi relaxed in the room he was renting. He hadn't been
doing much for the past while. He had been enjoying himself, relaxing, eating,
and relaxing. He hadn't had this much sleep for many years. He was usually
always doing something, though most might not think it. He did regulate his
trade empire, pooring over reports, making sure everything was running well. He
feared what might be going on to his wealth when he wasn't there to regulate
it. But he had the potential to get a lot more money here if he set up the
correct connections. While he made a bundle selling foriegn good in cyrodiil,
he could make plenty selling cyrodiil good here. He had already expanded to
High Rock, Hammerfall, and Skyrim.
Alexi stood and stretched. He should probably talk to Loranna again. He knew
she was very important and that her new castle would need a lot of goods. Goods
he could provide. Plus, she seemed a very likeable person. A little odd
looking, but nice enough. The stories he'd heard about her vary by who telled
it, so he could not realy upon them. Plus he had few friends in Morrowind. He
had never been sent to this province. Yes, he would meet Loranna again, as soon
as he got some brandy in him.

Despite what others thought Falco had not lost his mind.
In fact, he had more control of his sharp mind than ever before, plotting and
scheming things best not discussed among a civilized crowd. The argonian
captain was now taking lessons in basic magery from the Ship's mage, Erlycn.
These would continue so long as they both live, according to Falco. His ego was
big, but he still understood the importance of improving upon oneself, and
magic was something he had never tried. Surprisingly he had a natural talent for
the school of Mysticism.

Ald Raathim:
The first awareness Tris had that Mirea was here was a slap in the face.
"Mirea - what?" he spluttered, backing up. He knew better than to try
to hit her back. One wrong move on his part and she'd have him on the ground,
twisting off parts he'd rather keep. It was like being a little kid again, with
a demonic older sister.
"You're such a jerk," Mirea said. "You couldn't let her
be happy, not even for one night, could you?"
She slapped him again. He brought his arms up to defend his face. She caught
his wrist, pushed it down, and slapped him a third time.
"What are you even talking about?" Tris demanded. She was chasing
him, backward, in circles.
"All she wanted was to dance with a prince. Her mother never let her go to
dances. And she finally had a chance, and you stopped her, and now she's dead,
and she never did get to enjoy her life... "
Slap.
"Mirea, stop hitting me in the face before I lose my temper..."
It was hard to think with an enraged Bosmer girl slapping you in the face every
few seconds.
"The Countess of Ivytyde," Tris said. "She's dead? What
happened?"
"Lelia," Mirea said. "Quill's sister. Someone killed her, and
made it look like she killed herself. You had to peel Goranthir away from her,
didn't you, insult her on the LAST happy night of her LIFE..."
Tris was thinking of making a break for it. But he was spared the trouble. With
one last withering look, Mirea spun on her heel, and stomped away.
*
Daggerfall:
The trail was cold. But that didn't bother Mirea one bit. She could get Skein
to freshen the trail if she needed to. In the meantime, she talked to servants,
talked to people in low places, and spied on people in high places. She used
her Bosmer beast-speak to talk to the Countess's carriage horses. She would
find out where Leila had gone in her last days, and who she had gone with, and
what people were saying about it.
She didn't want to leave Quill alone for very long. Only a few hours. But she

Tsei: Daggerfall: Flying Dragon Tavern
Tsei sat at the bar, slowly sipping her drink. The news about the countess had
filled her with sadness. Was it murder, was it suicide? If she was being
beaten, suicide seemed the likely choice, but then again, one beating too hard
could've killed her.
She shook her head, and took another sip of her drink.

Mirea could have found Tsei without using any Void Ranger abilities, but it
would have been much harder. She had very few clues; the horses remembered
seeing an Argonian woman outside the tailor's shop on Lelia's last day alive.
There weren't many Argonians in Daggerfall, ever. And Tsei had been to the
wedding with Lelia.
The Flying Dragon wasn't her usual tavern; Mirea usually went to the White
Muskrat, just inside the city gate. All sorts of people came through the main
gate. A Bosmer wasn't even stared at there.
Here, though - several patrons turned their heads and looked disapprovingly at
Mirea in her short red skirt. She stuck her tongue out at them, and took a seat
next to Tsei.
"You were at the wedding, right? I remember seeing you in Solunastra. I'm
Mirea, in case you don't remember."

Mirea crooked a finger at the barkeep. "I'm paying for her."
Mirea had no sense of money at the best of times. Like all Bosmer, she thought
"property" was an ill-advised concept. The General had curbed her
pilfering by setting her up with an expense account. It had worked, more or
less. Free to buy whatever she wanted, Mirea found she didn't want most things.

"When I lived in Vvardenfell, I did some stuff I probably shouldn't have.
I was young, and I found someone who would take me in. When he would hit me, I

thought about telling someone, but what would they do? What could they do? Yell

She looked thoughtful for a moment, then said "I don't know why Lelia

"Mirea, stop hitting me in the face before I lose my temper..."
It was hard to think with an enraged Bosmer girl slapping you in the face every
few seconds.
"The Countess of Ivytyde," Tris said. "She's dead?
What happened?"
"Lelia," Mirea said. "Quill's sister. Someone killed her,
and made it look like she killed herself. You had to peel Goranthir away from
her, didn't you, insult her on the LAST happy night of her LIFE..."
Tris was thinking of making a break for it. But he was spared the trouble. With
one last withering look, Mirea spun on her heel, and stomped away.
Goranthir was lugging more dirt from the castle when he witnessed the
altercation. He told the lads that he needed a bit of break, and wiping his
face with his shirt, ran up to Tris. He was concerned, but unable to keep from
smiling at seeing him again.
"That must be the girl Allie sent to talk to Barenziah, she told me about

Quill flipped through the calendar. "Many men," he said, and added
quickly. "Lelia was never allowed to socialize while my mother was in
power, but she would never ... she was a butterfly, not a wanton ..."
"Lord Hyrick, Lord Forteyn, Lord Lyonswurst ... and then no other ... She
continued to go to parties at the castle and other places, but Laurent
Lyonswurst was the last man she met socially one on one ... though she does not
mention any other dates with him after two weeks ago ..."
Mirea blinked hard. She was trying to remember why she knew the name Laurent
Lyonswurst.
"He was at the wedding, wasn't he?" she said. "I wish I had gotten
to go."
She felt certain that little Lelia had in fact been a wanton and not a
butterfly. But brothers didn't need to know everything about their sisters.

"I hope no one is offended. But then, Daruhn has been heterodox from the

She took a sip of sujamma, and began.
Allerleirauh's Tale of the Maiden without Hands
Although I have also heard this told as a tale of the Underking's daughter, the
version I am about to tell you is set in Old Resdaynia, in the time of the
generations just after Veloth's exodus, when the first fervor had died and the
weight of custom had not yet taken its place. Though a Dunmer would tell it
differently than I do.
In those days, if we are to believe the storytellers, Hist still lived in many
places, not just in Argonia, and the land we call Vvardenfell was thickly
forested, though the plants were no more wholesome then than they are today. In
this land lived a Chimer girl, alone with her mother and father, and their job
was to cut down trees and clear the wilderness for settlement. She worked hard
every day from sunup to sundown, and never was there a more faithful daughter.
Now it happened upon a time that the girl's mother passed away, and the girl
and her father were left to perform the rites. The mother had been born in the
age before Veloth, and the father was uncertain whether he should perform the
old rites of the Altmer, or the new rites of the Chimer, over her body. In the
end he decided that the new rites should be kept, not because he was a
particularly pious person, but because the new custom lasted seven days, and
the old, seventy.
But the maiden thought it unseemly that her mother's rites should be carried
out in such haste, and so she performed both rites in their entirety, alone,
doing her customary work during the day and rising at night, forsaking sleep,
to honor her mother. And at the end of seventy-seven days she slept for the
first time.
Now, you might think that neither the Aedra nor the Daedra could find fault
with her piety. But the truth is that those two tribes are so set against each
other that they would rather shun a thing than share it. These warring factions
were each so offended that they called a truce and met in the sky to parley,
which was a wonder to all the lands beneath. And they determined that the
maiden should be brought to shame, and that this should happen through the
person of her father, because no other living thing was near.
Azura said, "I will offer you great magical power if you will shame
her." And Boethiah said, "I will give you wealth beyond
measure." And Xarxes, god of ancestry, said, "I will give you a
kingdom, and all your lineage will be kings." And last spoke the king of
the gods, Auriel, and said, "I will give you what you most desire. You
shall possess your daughter, and it shall be no shame, because I command it,
and it is no sin to obey the word of the king of the gods."
And the father looked at the sleeping maiden, and he agreed. So he went to
despoil her, but he was driven back, as if by a magical boundary.
"She is too clean," the gods said. "We have no authority over
the innocent. Throw ash on her hands."
And the father took ash from the ancestral bone-pit, and he threw it on her
hands. Then he went to her again.
But the maiden slept with her folded hands pressed to her cheek, and she wept
in her sleep.
And the tears washed the ash from her hands, and the father was again driven
back as if by an invisible boundary.
"You must cut her hands off," the gods said. "Then you will be
able to approach her."
And so great was the father's lust for wealth beyond measure and a kingdom and
magical power and the flesh of his daughter that he seized his axe and chopped
off his daughter's hands, and she awoke screaming. But she wept so pitifully
that the bloody stumps of her hands were washed quite clean, and at that
moment, the desire of her father for all these things left him.
"By your innocence you withstand both the Aedra and the Daedra," the
father said. "Let me worship you, and you will have no need of hands, for
I will be your servant in everything."
"I can stay no longer where I have been so treated," the maiden said.
"If you would serve me, do one thing. Place my severed hands in a sack,
and tie the sack to my belt, for I journey now into the wide world, never to
see you more."
And the father did as she asked, and the girl departed.
The girl walked and walked, but there were few dwellers in the land in those
days, and fewer things that were good to eat without preparation, and she had
no hands. Long days passed, and she was faint with hunger. The gods of
Aetherius did not pity her. The gods of Oblivion did not pity her. But the
goddess of the earth pitied her, for she was once a child herself, torn between
the Bronze and the Blue. And so, when the maiden could go no further, she came
at last to a comberry tree.
In Vvardenfell today, comberries only grow on scrubby little bushes. But in
those days, when the Hist still lived in Resdaynia, comberries grew on tall,
straight trees, like the ones on the mainland. The branches were heavy with
fruit, but the fruit grew too high for the girl to reach it, and there were no
low branches by which she might climb.
Then the girl took the little bag at her waist and untied it with her teeth.
Inside were the severed hands, which were rotted all to bones, and she shook
the bones out in a pile on the ground.
"Build me a ladder!" she commanded, and the bones sorted themselves,
and arranged themselves into a ladder, and by this ladder she climbed into the
tree, and ate her fill, and fell asleep. But the ladder of bones fell to the
ground, and she was left stranded in the tree. So she lived there, and ate
comberries, and drank sweet rain, and was happy enough, but not too happy.
Then it came to pass that one day, a king came riding, and his entourage
happened to pass under the comberry tree where the maiden lived. The tale does
not say what kingdom he ruled - for it is true that the Chimer were never
overfond of kings, considering them a relic of Altmer ways. But one thing that
is certain is that this king was out hunting, and his foragers smelled the
maiden in the tree, and they gathered below it.
"It is raining?" the king said. "Climb up and see."
The king's huntsmen climbed up - for they had hands, and could grip the trunk
with them - and they climbed back down.
"No, your majesty, it is not raining."
And the king could get no better answer out of them, so he climbed up himself,
and beheld the maiden. She was weeping with fright, and her tears were falling
out of the tree like rain.
"Are you a spirit?" the king asked, and the maiden said,
"I am no spirit, but a poor child of no House, forsaken by Aedra and
Daedra alike."
"Though you are forsaken by all the gods, yet I will not forsake
you," the king said, and so he married her, for she had become the most
beautiful maiden in the world, even without her hands. And the bones were
gathered up and put back in the sack, and taken with the new queen to the
palace, and they did everything she commanded them to do.
And so the maiden had all the things which the gods had offered to her father:
magic, and a kingdom, and great wealth, and a sweet body next to her own. And
these came to her by means of the sack of bones and the comberry tree.
Time passed, and the king was called away to war. While he was gone, the queen
gave birth to a baby. The queen's child had golden skin, and a star on his
face, and he was born clutching two crescent moons which marked his palms. But
the father was not there to take the child up, and perform the rituals to bring
him within the House, and so the gods had power over him.
The gods had not forgiven the queen, and so instead of blessing the baby, they
caused him to appear like a monster, enclosed in a shell like a scrib, with the
huge mouth of an Alit, the horns of a Kagouti, and the tendrils of a Kwama. And
they whispered in the ear of the king's councillor that the child appeared as
he did because the queen liked to wander in the forest, and there she had lain
with wild beasts.
And so the sack was tied once more to the queen's belt, and the monstrous child
to her back, and she was driven out of the kingdom. And the queen was unhappy,
but not too unhappy, for while her baby was with her she could never be truly
unhappy.
Still, she lacked her hands, and without them, she could not drink water, for
the water slipped right through the bones when she tried to scoop it up. So she
bent low over a river - perhaps it was the Odai, although the land has changed
much since the days of Resdaynia - and sipped with her mouth. And her baby
slipped from her back, and fell into the water, and he sank out of sight.
The queen spilled the bones out of the sack. "Help me, take up my baby
from the water."
But the bones did not obey her, for there was no baby to be taken up, only a
monster.
The queen cried out frantically for any help that was near. On the opposite
shore, a shining stranger appeared, and the stranger said, "I cannot cross
the river. If you would save the monster, you must do it yourself."
"I cannot!" the queen cried, in despair. "I have no hands!"
"Then let the monster drown," the shining stranger said.
At these words the queen reached down into the water with her stumps, though
she saw no use in it, and she felt around in the muck of the river, and she
found her child, and she took him up, for her hands had been restored.
Then the queen rejoiced, and she crossed the river to speak to the stranger,
and it was her mother's ancestral spirit, made powerful by many prayers. So the
mother and the spirit lived very well together, and together they raised the
Scrib-shell Boy, and he grew large and strong.
Nor did they live meekly and quietly, but they trained the boy for the day when
he would kill his father, who had broken an oath not to forsake his mother. And
when the Scrib-Shell Boy was big enough, he set his feet towards home, with his
mother at his side, and his grandmother's spirit leading the way.
In the meantime, the King had returned from the war, with grievous injuries,
having sustained many losses. But no loss seemed so great to him as the loss of
his wife, when he learned that she had borne a monster and been driven out of
the kingdom. And so he set out to look for his wife, and to see for himself
what kind of child it was.
The king sought his wife and son for seven years, and his hair grew long, and
his fingernails unkempt, but he did not turn back, and in the eighth year he
met the Scrib-Shell Boy coming to kill him, and they fought, and the
Scrib-Shell Boy bit with the mouth of an Alit, and gored with the tusks of a
Kagouti, and paralysed with the tendrils of a kwama, and his shell turned the
king's spear aside, and the king was thrown down and defeated.
"You have the better of me," the king said. "Only tell me before
I die what House you hail from, and what your name is, and why you attack a
stranger in the road."
The woman stepped forward. "I am your wife, whom you swore never to
forsake, and this is your son, for whose sake I was cast out of the
kingdom."
"I have been searching for my wife seven years and one," the king
said, "She had hands of bone, and yours are flesh. Also, my son was said
to have a shell like a scrib, the mouth of an alit, tusks like a kagouti, and
tendrils like a kwama."
"My hands grew again, but here are the bone hands," the wife said,
spilling the bag of bones. "As for your son, do you not see him?"
"You are my wife, and it gladdens me to see you before I die," the
king said. "But I see no monster; this is a fine Chimer youth, with golden
skin, a star upon his face, who fights with the large moon clasped in his right
hand and the small moon clasped in his left."
And when the father said these words, all could see that it was as he had said,
for the father had taken the boy into his House at last, and the gods could no
longer make sport of him.
Then the king and queen were reconciled, and there was such happiness in the
kingdom at their return that it seemed as if even the Aedra and Daedra were at
accord, although you and I know no such thing can be, before the end of
everything. But what became of the Star-Marked Lad who fought grasping the two
moons, I cannot say, for neither history nor legend tells of such a king.
But in Indoril lands, to this day, a feast of ancestors is celebrated, and the
roast scrib at that feast is called the Scrib-Shell Boy, and so it may be that
he did not die young, but traveled to other lands and married, and his lineage
lived on.

Joshua Fergusson finally climbed out of the pit and
found his shirt, sword, belt, and money bag which happened to have all of the
gold still in it. He went down to the alcove where his boat was beached and
stripped to the nude. He picked up a small bar of soap that he had had with him
on the boat and started washing off in the inlet. He got back out and put on
some fresh clothes. He strapped on his sword belt again and walked to the local
tavern, the Drunken Guar.
He entered and sat down at an unoccupied table. He got out his money bag and
ordered 3 Cyrodiilic Brandy's. The good thing was, it took more than three to
get him drunk beyond control, so he wouldn't make a fool of himself.

Shaka nodded to himself after the story. Allerleirauh

Could the Scrib-Shell Boy be Vehk? Or some other lineage? Shaka always
overanalyzed everything . . . .
He gave up and drank from the tankard.

Falco's ship had been newly renamed. No longer were the words Swift Gull
Painted in big bold letters on the side of the ship. Instead the ship's new
name had been carved in 1/2 inch barely noticeable figures on the mast. The
crew had avoided laughing when they noticed the similarities between their
captain's name and that of their ship. As laughing at his ego could very well
result in a flogging or worse.
The ship was now completely repaired and fully supplied. The pirates were ready

“Why would I tell him? I just met him,” Telera said confused, “I don’t give
everyone I meet an overview of my life.” She trailed off as Shai left.

Loranna mentally rolls her eyes at Shai; the girl was not helping matters any.
One of the guards turns to follow Shai, while the other asks "What's going

triangle of love, but the jealousy was subtler than screams and daggers drawn.
Before he could identify too heavily with Teleran/Telera, he saw Diamond, and

"I haven't seen you in a long time," he said. "How are you? I
