The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses

Posted by: Loranna Oct 6 2005, 10:29 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

Newcomers, we ask you to
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855 before starting up; everyone will be happier for it smile.gif

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP, on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From there, type /join #Loranna_RP

You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Once things settle down in the castle, Loranna makes a trip to Cyrodiil, to meet with the head priestess of the House of Dibella, an Altmer woman she had not yet had the opprotunity to meet.

Solena Caro regards Loranna's request with finely-arched eyebrows. "A House of Dibella in a domain in Morrowind?" she asks. "An unusual request ... you are aware, my child, that the Lady's House is no mere place of prostitution; we aren't a tourist attraction ..."

Loranna acknowledged "I understand; I ask this as a daughter of the Temple, who wishes a House in Ald Raathim for the purposes of worship."

Solena's eyebrows relax. "I see you are serious, my child," she says. "I am still concerned though about the idea; the Dunmer have never been fond of any of the Nine Divines, and I would not want our people to meet with a disasterous fate."

"I understand," Loranna says, "this as been on my mind as well. I had hoped to ask for one or more Lily Knights to be assigned to the Temple, and would extend my own protection as Lady of Ald Raathim to the Temple."

Solena considers, a thoughtful look and a small smile on her face as she contemplates the ways in which Dibella works in the world ...

The two women continue to converse for some time, discussing arrangements for the newly-proposed Temple. When they finish, Loranna feels a sense of satisfaction; everything was ready to go.

Allerleirauh's journal, morning, 5th Frostfall (1 day in the past, or:
What Allerleirauh wrote about birds

Little bird of my heart... I feel as if a mountain stands between us, and I am that mountain. It seems natural that a bird should fly far, over many mountains; and perhaps it even seems natural that one mountain may be inhabited by many birds. But it seems most unnatural that the mountain should shun any who soar above it.

I wanted you to come to me, and conquer your fears, and go on. I wanted you to cast me off, not because you no longer desired me, but because you desired more... desired more than companionship, more than love, more than very great friendship, and all we have been to each other. I thought you would see yourself reflected in some young person's eyes, and make a family. I was prepared for that pain.

This pain, seeing you suffering and silent, I did not prepare for. Oh, little bird, please sing me a song... or better still, sing your song to another...

Tris Gaerington: Wayrest

Tris took two roses today, a small one for his buttonhole, and a full-blown one for Herwyn Brand. He hadn't seen Herwyn since the wedding; he wondered what Wayrest's spymaster had been up to, and how he was managing life since his first steps into the Void. Knowing Herwyn, he had probably put it completely out of his mind and gone back to living a mundane life.

However, Tris didn't encounter Herwyn Brand on his usual morning trip from his townhouse to the Dome of Wayrest, with a stop for breakfast at the park. After a period of loitering, Tris went looking for him.

He found Herwyn Brand still at home, and not dressed for work. He appeared to be... alphabetizing his bookshelves.

"Flower," Tris said, stepping Inside and presenting it to him. "Not feeling well?"

Ald Raathim

Having made arrangements with the House of Dibella, Loranna returns home, looking for Allerleirauh. It doesn't take long for Loranna to track down the silver-haired Nord woman; she simply follows the little ones. Allie's feats of strength while helping the construction had become widely circulated among Ald Raathim's younger population, and there rarely lacked an audience of cildren watching Allie treat uge blocks of stone like they were down-filled pillows.

Loranna waits for a moment when Allie isn't hauling giant stone blocks and says "Hail Allie; I was wondering if we could talk a bit."

"I don't mind a break," Allerleirauh said, stretching, and clapping her hands together to produce a cloud of marble dust. She wore a scarf tied around her bright hair, and a plain dress, tucked up at the waist.

She assumed that Loranna wanted to speak privately, and so she walked between two tall piles of wood, where no one was working at the moment, climbed one, and sat down on it.

"Feel fine, thanks for asking after coming into my study uninvited. Here, hold these," Herwyn said tersely, handing Tris an armful of books and marching into his brightly-windowed sitting room to retrieve a flowervase.

"Why shouldn't I be?

"Don't answer that, I'll tell you.

"Tris, you used a major trick and screwed up the order of life and death rather badly. I ask you, is there a way that one who travels the void could do such a thing... to a lesser degree... and not realize it?

"Give me those," he said, suddenly, taking the armful of tomes on magic and law from Tris and carefully placing each one in its appointed place on the shelf.

Loranna sits herself down on the second pile of wood, making herself comfortable.

"I wanted to talk to you about setting up a Tribunal Temple here in Ald Raathim," she says, coming right to the point. "I've been making arrangements to have the Nine Divines represented here, Dibella specifically, but I felt the Tribunal needs to be represented too."

"I am under the impression that things aren't working... normally, and I can only assume that it's me, or something I've done."

"Very good," Allerleirauh said. "The Temple needs to move forward... to canonize Seht and Ayem and be done with it. Ayem's grave should join her birthplace as a place of worship. Those two will need all the prayers they can get to establish themselves in the Outer Realms, and they will need to be bound to this plane, as the other saints have been... but never mind. You were simply asking about a temple. Yes, there are enough people here that one is needed. It should be secluded, set away from the town proper, as Temples ordinarily are. Did you have a location in mind?"

"You're not telling me enough to help you," Tris said. He was starting to be alarmed, but only a little. After all, he himself had gone insane, for a time, after he had discovered his abilities. "What things? Anything that's going to cause the world to come to an end?"

"Probably not. At least, I assume not," Herwyn said, dusting off the corner of the desk where Tris had momentarily leaned.

"You know that assassin, Kethiah, friend of a friend of yours, I believe... She needs to be dead. Business, you know.

"Well, she proved too experienced for my operatives, so I decided to take care of things myself, even though that's not really my specialty. No reason for people to die needlessly, of course.

"The thing is, I couldn't do it. I don't mean that I couldn't bring myself to do it... or maybe I do. I certainly don't mean that I was outmatched. What I mean is, it would NOT happen. No matter what.

"Frankly, I was afraid to try too very hard, for fear of... breaking something.

"At first I thought that it might've been the doing of that creature, Leseth, since he seemed to take a great deal of pleasure watching me try, but now I'm beginning to wonder... Is it just me? Is there some reason I couldn't do it? In my memory it seems so clear that something external was amiss.

"I tried again, just to be sure, while she slept. It was utterly surreal. Now, though, I'm beginning to wonder again if I'm misremembering it, and that somehow it's all just me."

Loranna sketches a rough map of Ald Raathim in the dirt with her dagger. "Well, I was thinking of putting Dibella's house here," she says, indicating a spot near the town proper. "That leaves a few spots further out ... here, or here."

She pauses a moment, adding "Though Goran was talking to me before about establising a preserve over to the west, if I recall; maybe the Temple sould go here ten, more to the north. I should talk to Goran too about that preserve idea before it's too late."

"You tried to kill Kethiah? For business?"

Tris remembered the evil alternate Kethiah; his own feelings about her were mixed. He knew Isidor loved her, but frankly, that was more evidence of Isidor's lack of good sense than of Kethiah's good qualities. Kethiah was an assassin, a woman who killed people for pay, regardless of whether or not they deserved it.

Kethiah also hadn't come with them during the Blue Twilight... she was part of the universe, she had been transformed as it had been. He remembered the evil Jazbet sending Winged Twilights against him, the evil Kethiah laughing at his side, and shuddered.

"I don't know," Tris said. "I think you should talk to the General.
She understands these things."

"I can't say that idea appeals to me, for obvious reasons, Tris. I was hoping you would know something.

"Would you set up a meeting for me? At the General's convenience, of course."

"Unfortunately cities and wildlife aren't compatible," Allerleirauh said. "Goranthir was raised in Summerset; he's a Ranger who speaks to beasts, and he's never been hungry. I understand Goranthir's perspective, but if you set up a preserve so near your town, it will only anger the poor. They will regard you as a tyrant who would keep them from obtaining food for themselves, and they will regard you as decadent because of your priorities. Which is not to say you should not do it, just that you cannot please everyone."

She indicated a location. "There, I think, backed against solid stone. Many temples are built that way. I will speak to the right people, and see that it is done. Perhaps some local people will want to be trained in holy orders; the Temple took grave losses during the Blue Dawn, and a new generation is needed."

Allerleirauh smiled. "I don't actually keep a copy of the Homilies tucked in my back pocket to school you every chance I get. You seem to understand the situation well enough. Ald Raathim will be a city, not a town, if it survives the war. I don't think there's much chance of avoiding war, with Barenziah's attitude. And although she won't talk about it, I think she likes life better than death, and is fond of her people even when they fail to support her, and she would not be considering war if she did not smell a greater danger on the horizon. It's destiny, and we'd all better get with the schedule."

"Ciel is not well," Allerleirauh said. "He languishes. And not simply because Tris is such a little wretch. Skein has been deeply immersed in her work, of which I understand almost nothing. Mirea ran away to join a circus. Ibga amuses herself by trying to make Ciel grow fat, and Tamne is growing fat, on such a diet; I shall have to put her to work of some kind. Sen-Yedda's new hobby is anointing anyone foolhardy enough to pick her up with pale yellowish vomit and then laughing about it."

"Huh," Loranna says, raising her eyebrows. "That's even more than what we've got going on here, between Anya and Shaka's issues, Isidor's tendency to dash off whenever something comes up, Stalker trying to get used to the concept of being around others and Slyvos suffering from bad dreams."

She frowns, thinking about Ciel and Tris, and Sen-Yedda. "Well, back to work, I guess ..."

Loranna nods. "Dreams of his final conflict with his father, the fight that drove him over the edge initially," Loranna says, thinking of the memories she shared of those dreams. "Only now he's got this feeling that there's something missing, something he's never really noticed before - and he's got a feeling that he's being watched by someone or something, and it's got him a little spooked."

"We talked about his dreams right before the banquet," she continues. "He's been thinking lately about how he never actually looked to see if anyone survived. I'm not sure what to make of these dreams, but I hate to see him locking himself away in the library again ..."

"It was a long time ago," Allerleirauh said. "Certainly there's enough guilt there to crush any man, but it's worth remembering that it's only because he became a lich that anyone's even alive to remember their deaths. In the natural course of things, they all would have died of old age by now. Time smooths out good and evil, as that harrow smooths the ground..."

"You're right," Loranna sys, watching the guar. "Thanks for reminding me of that simple truth, Allie."

She smiles a little. "Plus, there's going to be enough coming in the future to keep us all occupied as it is - even without Skein's prediction to think of."

They talked a bit more, the topic winding its way to the mangroves after a while, and then when it was time to get back to work, both women went their seperate ways.

Anya lay on her branch, one leg dangling. There was an audible thunk as a dagger stuck into the branch above her. She reached for another dagger and tossed it into the branch.

It had never occured to her that she might well be more attracted to women than to men. She certianly never found a physical attraction to them, but then she didn't care much for physical attrations in men neither, though she knew the merits of it well. Several times over, a cute smile was enough to get important information for her current employer.

Get drunk and find another girl. Tris had told her. She giggled at the thought, certianly something she would have never thought on her own. It seemed simple enough, but of course, there was still plenty of apprehension.

One dagger missed it's mark and tumbled down, she reached out and caught it, the blade slipping between her fingers.

Anya gathered her throwing daggers, wondering why Lotus hadn't showed up to give her a disapproving look. She lept down, she was due for another drink anyway, and walked back to the tavern.

Anya smiled back, and winked at him. She certainly knew a well toned and beautiful man when she saw one, no doubt there.

Allerleirauh had been ... enthusiastic that morning, but instead of exhausting him, Goranthir felt more alive, with energy to burn. Physical labor was nothing he was used to. Even in the year he spent traveling through Tamriel from west to east, he had never worked hard with his hands. He looked briefly at them now, and there were blisters forming, different from the calluses he had built up from swordplay. More honest somehow.

Tris and Allerleirauh were elsewhere, and when he saw either one of them, he would take a break, but for now he was happy among the workers, making Ald Raathim more secure by pure sweat.

The Swift gull's broken mast had been removed and sold for firewood, and a new one had been purchased. The pirate crew did well enough installing the new mast, as it was backbreaking physical labor. Wich is exactly what pirates are good for.

But mending the sails was another issue altogether. Falco had to stifle a laugh as some two dozen big, burly, scarred, and heavily tattoed pirates each tried to wield a thread and and needle. Needless to say there was much more tearing than mending going on and somehow a certain corner kept catching on fire.

When Shaka arrived in town and saw how many had pitched in to help build the defenses, he felt shamed.

He Recalled to his yurt and locked away his armor and weapons, then returned to Ald Raathim to see if he could help, either with manual labor or as a mage. There probably would be little pay, but he didn't want to feel selfish about leaving for the island in order to fill soulgems or gather loot.

Loranna's castellian Kallen appeared to be the man most directly in charge of the four big jobs: hauling dirty away from the excavation at the castle, hauling stones to the castle for the fortifications, dredging the bay to expand the dock area, and expanding the arena. Others were supporting the workers, healing their bumps and bruises, augmenting their strength and endurance magically. Then there were those who were doing smaller projects, such as finishing the new tavern and new warehouses near the docks.

The ship arrived but Kratos had already left, on his way to Mournhold. He had to seek answers.

As Kratos walked along the road out of Ald Raathim he thought to himself, The voice of my blood cannot be silenced. Only I know the secrets of my soul, and i believe that the heritage of the Ordinators has not been lost completely.

Embers smolder long under ash, and stupid men and mer believe them extinguished, but when the wind starts to blow again, the flame is reawakened.

He headed south on the long road to the City of Lights and Magic.

After school had let out, Tyradil had told Tilitlaia he would meet up with her later. When he hadn't come back after a while, Tilitalia went back to the school to look for him. When she arrived at the school, no one had seen him.

She looked around, and to her surprise, she had found him kissing a pretty dunmer girl from school, named Davala. Tilitalia raised her eyebrows, and coughed. Davala looked up, saw Tilitalia, and seperated herself from Tyradil. "Um, I'll see you later." With that, she ran off.

Tyradil spun around, his face an odd mixture of anger, blushing, and confusing. "What are you doing here?" He asked his sister, in a slightly raised voice.

Tilitalia smiled and said "I was looking for you. We've got work to do, and you know I was having trouble with my alchemy."

Tyradil looked down at his feet "Yeah, sorry about that ... Don't tell Dad about this, please?"

Tilitalia laughed and said "When we talk to dad, your extra cirricular activities will be low on my list of things to discuss." She patted him on the back, and they made their way back to the castle.

OOC Summary

Reichi Sari is wandering around and about Ald Raathim.

---

Reichi casually strolled through the streets of Ald Raathim, but he had begun to tire of the town slightly, or more specifically, towns. Buildings. The structures of man, mer, and betmer. While Reichi wasn't a ranger, nor a Bosmer, he did enjoy getting out into the forest some. Esspecially at night, for a bit of hunting. Though, even in the day hunting was fun, it was harder. Harder to catch something when running on two legs than on four.

The mer moved silently through the forest, picking up multiple scents. The smell of the trees and grass, the smell of water, the various creatures of Morrowind, along with that of a Wolf. Weird... he thought, usually the only wolf around Ald Raathim was either Aricyn's one, or Isidor's. Reichi ignored it, he was hunting, besides, he didn't have Goranthir's natural ability, nor was he a Bosmer, so he couldn't talk to it if he wanted to. Instead he followed the trail left by a Kagouti, they were harder to kill than Alit, they had sense enough not to have such huge jaws you could stick a blade through the roof of its' mouth to its brain when it opened them.

Reichi heard a twig crack drly, and looked down, he hadn't stepped on one, so he drew Bloodfang as he whirled around, having learned rather well from the scuffle on Solstheim, that when twigs cracked in a previously silent area, bad things were about to jump out and bite your head off. There was a Argonian standing behind him, looking quite like he had intentionally broken the twig, as he was leaning on a Adamantium spear. Reichi blinked a moment before recognizing the Argonian bard that had been in the Drunken Guar some time ago, singing that gory war-song. The Argonian was wearing travell-stained common clothing, along with some mismatched peices of armor. But, fine armor, Ebony, Adamantium, glass.

The piece that particularly caught Reichi's attention was the Argonian's cuirass, which was a familar dark silver color, and had a intricate design Reichi was familar with, At the center of it was the head of a wolf, flanked by that of a bear and lion, those in turn flanked by a crocadile and a shark, and a vulture at the far back. The Argonian grinned at Reichi, not a friendly grin.

"Who are you, and what do you want?" Reichi asked, relaxing his stance slightly, though he inconspicuously moved his hand towards the Dagger of Senses.

"I'm Sings-Of-Death, and I collect tales, as well as artifacts. Such as that ring, fair Wolf," The Argonian said, the grin stil on his scaled face as he casually ran a clawed hand over one of the many horns that adorned his head. "And the magnificient tale of your defeat."

"So, you think you're gonna kill me, and move on with my stuff and that tale to sing about to others?" Reichi asked, a slight anger and annoyance entering his voice. Arrogant as the Argonian was, he was cunning enough to have caught him in day, where he had a much better chance of taking Reichi down. Without dying that is, he could have confronted him at night and relied on the strength of silver weaponry to damage Reichi better than even that Adamantium spear could.

"Exactly, I've done it before. Got this here cuirass off one of your kind Up in Skyrim. Cold as hell up there, worth it though," The Argonian replied. By now Reichi was convinced the lizard was as figuratively cold-blooded as he was litterally cold-blooded.

"Then make your peace with what dieties you worship, fool," Reichi said with a cocky grin as he drew the Dagger Of Senses. Sings-Of-Death, in response, brought up the spear into a combatyive stance and blocked the first thrust Reichi threw with the two flanges that protuded from the sides of the spear head at the base. Reichi cursed himself for not seeing that coming. He had seen Shaka fight enough to forsee this spear-weilder similarly utilizing his spear.

Reichi hopped back, which normally would have put him out of range, with the spear-weilding argonian it was different, he could still hit Reichi, Reichi couldn't however, return the favor. Reichi cursed again, ducked, dodging and blocking various blows, until he mopved close enough to take a swipe at the Argonian's midsection. Bloodfang connected with the Argonian's chest, but it skidded off the cuirass's surface, leaving little more than a deep scratch in the cuirass.

"Die, ash-skinned scum!" the argonian hissed, whirling the spear so that the shaft struck Reichi from behind. The battle continued for some time, with both sides exchanging blows and insults. Reichi managed to knock several pieces of the Argonian's armor off, save the curiass and had cut several gashes in his hide. Sings Of Death on the other hand had already given Reichi several bruises, and gashes, along with a stab-wound from the spear-head striking him in the shoulder. Sings Of Death hefted the spear again, and thrust it mightly at Reichi. Reichi brought up both the Dagger Of Senses and Bloodfang, catching both on the flanges, and keeping the spearhead from ramming through his chest.

"Now the tale endssss," Sings Of Death hissed, his predatory grin returning to his bloodied muzzle. Reichi returned the grin as he thought of a way out.

"Yes, and very tragically," Reichi said through gritted teeth as shifted his weight and forced the spear head to his right as he let go off his weapons and moved to left and ran towards Sings-Of-Death, pulling Kratos' Dagger from his boot. "You die, see." Reichi plunged the Dagger into the Argonian's throat, cuasing Sings of Death's eyes to widen in surprise and him to gurgled as he dropped his spear and fell to his knees the glass dagger deep in his throat.

"This tale, Sings-Of-Death, was your Swan song," Reichi said as the Argonian looked at him before the life faded from his eyes and he fell forward into the dust.

"Good hunt, my prey came to me."

Daggerfall: Phand Masolaude's Tailor shop

Phand Masolaude catered to Daggerfall's elite. You were not allowed within unless you had an appointment, and you only had an appointment if one of the master seamstress had received a recommendation from one of her other clients. The gowns they made were jaw-droppingly expensive and jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

Lelia, the Countess of Ivytyde had made an appointment, and entered the shop. She was still pale and pretty, but she did not smile as she used to. Over her pale pink dress, she wore a long pink cape.

Phand excused herself from Tsei, letting her assistant finishing pinning the hem on the dress she was trying on, looking at herself in front of the mirror.

"I need dresses for the winter," she said. "Long sleeves."

"Of course, madam," said the seamstress, pulling out her tape.

"The old measurements will suffice," the Countess said quickly. "I've neither lost nor gained weight."

"Nor did you need to," the seamstress said diplomatically.

Daggerfall: Tsei
After the breakup with Falco, Tsei had taken to doing petty thieving jobs in the city of Daggerfall. She was good at what she did, but that didn't mean she liked doing it. As a girl, she had fantasized about a lavish wedding, but most specifically, a fine dress for herself. The one she had bought for the wedding was nice, but nearly as nice as she would've wanted.

This is how Tsei ended up in Phand Masolaude's Tailor shop, getting measured for a dress, that would cost her almost a month and a half of pilfering, and any savings she had.

She did not reply, but she looked at Tsei as if trying to think where she had seen her before. They had both been to the wedding, but to the Countess, that was a lifetime ago.

Phand was quick to pick up the conversation. "Oh yes, the Countess favors the pinks and whites, and all the pretty colors ... We just received some glorious lavender silks from Valenwood this week which would be glorious ..."

"Black," Lelia replied simply. Even her voice sounded dead.

“I never used armor before I lost my arm. I thought it would only slow me down, and I’ve got suitable weapons, I just didn’t remember them that day. As for how long I’ll be like this, I don’t know, but I think Tris believes that the potion has already worn off, I just didn’t go back,” Telera said, before moving on from that topic, “Actually, I was wondering, well it was rather obvious in the ship that I don’t know how to balance properly yet, and um, I was wondering if maybe, you could, you know, help me learn how to move and react in this form. Practice reactions and sparring and the like.”

Anya smiled, bemused, "Feeling top heavy?"

She swirled her drink, "I would love too, though I'm not exactly sure how the differences are between man and woman... I will spar with you. It's a good thing our skills lie in the same area. Speaking of witch, how is your telekinesis? It's unlikely to have been affected, but you never really know with this sort of magic."

Daggerfall

QUOTE(Sheogorath @ Oct 6 2005, 09:03 PM)

Daggerfall
The Countess was getting into her carriage as Tsei came out.  Just for an instant, she saw someone else in the carriage with her, a young girl.  And then it was off down the cobblestone road.

*

Tsei frowned, as the carriage rolled away. She knew what it was like to beaten. Morrowind hadn't been the kindest place for a young, niave, argonian. She shuddered at the thought, and began to wander the streets again.

Ald Raathim, Tyradil and Tilitalia's room
Isidor had looked into the room before, but no one had been there. Now, when he knocked, Tilitalia's sharp voice answered with a sharp "Yes?"

Isidor entered the room, and looked at his children.

Tyradil was reading one of the Sermons of Vivec, but he wasn't really reading it. He was gazing out into space, his thoughts still with Davala.

Tilitalia, however, was perfectly focused. On Isidor. "Oh, you've decieded to see us! Where are you running off to now? Akivar?"

Isidor frowned, and said "I deserved that. I should explain to you, what's been going on. That woman you saw before, I love her. And, when I found out she was in trouble, I went to help her."

Tyradil looked up when Isidor said 'love', but quickly returned to his book.

Tilitalia, however, stayed focused on Isidor. "The question is, dad, who do you care about more? Some woman, or your own kids, who came to live with you. Dad, do you love this woman? Is she going to be around now more?"

Isidor smiled at his daughter's intelligence. She knew more then he did, it seemed. "You know what, you should talk to her. Ask her these questions, she can answer better then I."

“Maybe a little,” Telera said, “I don’t think anybody really does know how the differences feel, I can only tell that there is a difference because I do something that should work and it doesn’t come out right.”

“So far as I can tell, it’s like it always has been for me. Right there, waiting to be used.” she continued, “And my other spells are coming along much better than they had been before since I can use the proper hand movements for them now.”

Ald Raathim
Kethiah followed the finger well enough. "Fine.  I'm a little sensitive to light though, for some reason."  She motioned towards the curtains, which had been drawn.

*

"Your eye has also turned violet," Loranna says, giving Kethiah her best bedside manner smile. "Gives you a rather exotic look, actually." She runs her hands over Kethiah's face once more, her fingers still glowing.

"I've done everything I can do with magic for you now," she says. "We'll watch you over the next few days, see if your eyes get used to the light again. I'm happy to see you still have your vision in both eyes though."

" ... If I may be direct dear, do you know who did this?" she asks Kethiah. "And whether we should be expecting them again?"

To Loranna's question, she said. "Yes, I know who did it, and there's no reason for it to happen again. I've decided to retire."

Loranna gives Kethiah a somewhat tight-lipped smile, remembering back to the very beginning of the Dawn, when Jazbet had first reunited with them. Kethiah's gesture recalled to Loranna the memory of Jazbet's reaction to being told he was blind ...

In hindsight, of course, she realizes he had already known, but wouldn't let on; still, the memory causes Loranna's gaze to soften, and to put a reassuring hand on Kethiah's shoulder. "Not horrible at all," she says. "It's beautiful in its own small way."

"I'm glad to hear the danger has passed," she continues. "You'll be staying with Isidor here in Ald Raathim, then?"

Kethiah grimaces a little. "Not only him. His children. Who I will be meeting shortly."

It is plain to see that this woman who has killed hundreds, perhaps thousands, over her career, one of the toughest, most ruthless people in Morrowind, is terrified of the prospect.

"You know, Isidor is so sweet and trusting -- he never even asked whether I've killed any children in the course of my work."

Kethiah blinks. She tried to imagine something worse that she could have been talking about before children enter the room. Unnatural sex? No. Child murder is the top of the subject lists not to have on your lips before the children of your lover enter the room.

The expressions on their face suggested that they did not hear her. Thank Vivec.

It took her a moment to recover enough to remember her name. Not a great sign. "Kethiah," she said, looking them over.

She was not a great fan of "cute" and these kids were that. But they were quiet. That was good.

"Hello," Kethiah added. It was a conversation not off to a promising start.

Loranna understands Kethiah's fears perfectly, having been asking herself lately if she was truly ready to be a mother for real. "You know, it never occured to me to ask, either," she says with a bit of a wry grin, just before the children enter and Loranna decides talking about Kethiah's possible past contracts on children was undiplomatic.

"Hello dears," she says, smiling to Tilitalia and Tyradil, noting the girl's straight face. Considering how Isidor had run off to save this woman who he expected to become the kids' new mother figure, leaving them alone yet again, Tilitalia's reaction was moderate, for now.

Loranna feels a pang of sympathy for Kethiah, and for the kids; this really was an awkward situation all around.

What to say, what to say? Kethiah looked at their serious faces. Should I offer them a drink?

She looked around. Nothing but the pitcher of bloody water. Should 11-year-olds see pitchers of bloody water? Hard to say.

"So," Kethiah added hopefully, and then shut her mouth. She had hoped she would have a brilliant conversational idea at the end of that syllable, but she didn't.

“Healing is why I started learning,” Telera began, “I was a burden on the healers and decided I wanted to be able to take some of the load. I haven’t been able to handle anything more than superficial scrapes yet though.

“Alteration is something that intrigued me, I’ve learned most of the basic spells there, even if they’re not all that useful as they are. I’ve always gotten my illusions from items, interesting, but I never grasped how they worked really, and trying to learn the illusion I wanted would have been impossible without a grasp of the basics, I got it enchanted onto my pauldron instead.”

Telera continued, “But what I’m doing best with so far are spells from the school of mysticism. I only started looking at mysticism spells recently, but they just feel more natural to me than the others.”

QUOTE(Teleran @ Oct 6 2005, 08:41 PM)

“I see the similarities too. You're right though, let’s leave her alone until we know what Loranna wants done. T'zar doesn’t seem to be writing anything down this time.

*

"Mysticism would be a natural choice, it is the school telekinesis is from, and you've already gained some mastery of it."

"Alteration was simple to uderstand, the premise of changing a physcial object. Illusion... now that was tougher. How to bend perception to your will? A difficult concept. I do have some books I could show you in the library, if you're still interested."

Anya adopted a thoughtful look, "We could improve you're balance and restoration skills at the same time, it seems. If we pick the right pace during spars, then as the normal scrapes and bruises occur, you could heal us and we could continue right on. Seems that the progression of both would match, and we could steadily build."

Update

After his chat with Baladas Drakar started his investigation into the disapearance of the Redoran Emissary and the missing agents. It began in Gnisis and he was not too surprised when he ran into difficulties following them at Ald Raathim. The guild guide just could not remember the Emissary, just too many people came through there. The next destination on the Emissaries assigned route proved to be equally fruitless so he returned to Ald Raathim.

Drakar decided to look around town and see what he could find out from the locals. Soon after he had left the Mages Guild he felt like sombody or something was watching him. Acting like he did not notice anything he decided to check with the guards on duty. He explain to them he was investigaeting a disapearance of a Redoran Official and the people sent to look for him. He asked about anything unusual going on, anything out of the ordinary, even if they had any strange feelings, Especially if there had been any other disapearances in the area.

Upon arriving in Godsreach, he headed directly to the Winged Guar where he decided to wait and relax before he went to the Temple.

"Keep, i'll have a mug of sujamma, please." He took a seat at the bar and waited.

The guards prove to be less helpful than Drakar may have hoped, though not through any real fault of their own.

"Well, you see, there's typically unusual things going on here, serjo," was one typical answer Drakar got. "Lot of adventuresome types hang their hats in Ald Raathim and adventurers always seem to bring unusual events with them - like moths to flame you know. Plus, with all the construction going on, it's hard to tell if there's anything pecularily out of the ordinary, you understand?"

"But no, there's been no odd disappearances in Ald Raathim serjo, not anytime recent. Just visiting royalty and lots and lots of construction, and the pitfalls that come with both."

Ald Raathim: Tris

(ooc: Floki Longhammer appears courtesy of a conversation I had with Rhedd.)

Having escorted Herwyn Brand to see the General, Tris went on with his day's business.

At Floki Longhammer's forge, Tris presented the master smith with the sad, broken shards of his ebony longsword.

"How do you break ebony?" Floki asked. "Did you leave it in the road to be run over by a wagon? I should refuse to fix any more weapons for people who don't know how to take proper care of them."

"I struck too hard and it snapped in my hand," Tris said.

The smith slowly and deliberately set down his hammer and came around from behind his anvil to feel Tris's upper arm, with an exaggerated look of doubt. The smith's arms were the size of hams hanging in a smokehouse.

"Do you mind?" Tris said.

"You're strong for a Breton, I'll give you that," the smith said, in the same tone of voice he might have remarked that a small child was strong for a six-year old.

On another day, Tris might have smiled and ignored him. On this day, however, he was feeling at the top of his game - and so he took a nice roundhouse swing at Floki, his fist connecting satisfyingly with the smith's meaty jaw.

"APPRENTICES!" the smith roared. "GET IN HERE!"

I'm in for it now, Tris thought, as three huge young Nords emerged from the storeroom.

"Do you see this?" Floki bellowed, indicating his bruised and swelling jaw. "This little Breton gave me this. You, boy, take a swing at me."

The oldest of the apprentices obligingly took a swing at Floki, who laughed.

"Did your mother teach you to hit? You should spend more time in the village, let this Breton teach you the manly arts."

"I'm sorry, I haven't the time," Tris said. "You see, all the maidens from the Nord encampment already want me to demonstrate the 'manly arts'."

Longhammer roared with laughter, while the apprentices exchanged pained looks.

"Seriously," Tris said. "This sword means something to me. I don't want to give it up, but it did break in my hand. Can you mend it to be as strong as it was before. - or even stronger?"

"I'll see what I can do," Longhammer said.

Solunastra: Allerleirauh

Allerleirauh - General Light - thought that Herwyn Brand looked as comfortable, in her elegant little sitting room, as a cat being dosed. She held Sen-Yedda on her lap; the child's laughter and movements provided a constant distraction.

She listened to Herwyn's story. "That's interesting," she said. "What you describe smells like CHIM. CHIM cannot be moved; what that means is that even the powers of Void Rangers are limited sometimes. Ordinarily the strings aren't visible, but if you find yourself feeling that you are bashing your head against a brick wall, you are probably facing CHIM. That's not what's interesting. What's interesting is that Kethiah should not have CHIM - when the world changed, she changed with it."

Allerleirauh explained about the 'evil' Kethiah, wife of Azurite Lord Jazbet.

"So, you see, Kethiah should not be able to thwart you - it may be that her love for Isidor has acted as a seed within her, generating CHIM she lacked at the time of the Blue Twilight. It may be - but it is foolish to speculate. There's someone you should meet."

Allerleirauh took him downstairs, to the main hall. Here, at the back of the hall, a small live tree grew, slender white branches framing the three thrones of Solunastra's resident masters. At the base of the tree were flowers and sweet-scented herbs. Blue light fell on them from long panes of stained glass.

Bending low, examining something in the tangles of herbs, was a woman in red velvet. Not a young woman, a mature woman. Slender - she could almost be called 'drawn' - elegant; Imperial. Her heavy dark hair fell around her shoulders and down her back like a cloak. When she turned, her eyes were huge and dark, almost Bosmer-like. This was Skein, Solunastra's seer, and she was watching spiders.

"Herwyn Brand," Skein said. "Kethiah cannot be killed by you. Not while Isidor desires her. His CHIM protects them both, and his children too. CHIM cannot be moved, and so the wise know to turn aside."

"I will leave you two alone," Allerleirauh said. Sen-Yedda was growing restless.

Ivytyde House, Daggerfall

The new Countess of Ivytyde had only held the title for a little over a month, since she and her brother hired an assassin named Kethiah to murder their domineering mother and make it look like suicide. Their father had taken his own life as well, years and years ago.

And now the new Countess, Lelia, stood on the tower of her family’s mansion, and looked down to the sea.

For a couple weeks, she thought that she could do it. To be the lady of the wealthy Lord Laurent Lyonswurst, with all his charm and sophistication, the people and things he knew, it was worth the horror that happened at night when the doors were closed the world, and the mask came off.

A rainy wind whipped over her naked body, cooling the hot wounds on her, washing the blood of the girl from her hands. Lelia had brought her to Laurent to sate his desire, so he would not be so cruel.

But the girl had not cried enough for his pleasure, and he was even more wrathful when Lelia had bound her wounds and sent her on her way.

The Countess thought of her nights of horror, and her days of hiding away, hoping no one would find out the shameful truth. The girl in the tailor shop had blurted it all out, and soon more would know. She would not be able to bear the pity and disgust.

And so she stepped from the tower, and her battered body was destroyed against the rocks. It was not until morning that her servants found her, the third member of her cursed family to commit suicide.

Darkness.

Slowly, Light came. A little at first, but then, the surroundings became lighter, clearer. The familiar red tones of the desert rock were first noticed, then the beige sand, then the white light in the middle of a room. A cave room.

Slowly, but surely, Vaan was coming back to his senses.

The cave, by all rights, should have dim. But It wasn't.

Why isn't it Dim....? Ugh...the light!?"

Slowly, the red colour of the rocks became more defined. It was mostly a rusty colour, but several parts of it were a different shade. The room was small, with a rocky plinth standing in the middle, upon which that accursed light sat. Naturally, Vaan's eyes tried to avoid it as best they could.

And then, Feeling made it's way back through Vaan's nervous system, Flowing from his brain, and made welcome throughout his whole body. and thus, In accordance with nature, pain came too, not so welcome, this time.

It wasn't exactly unbearable. Judging by it's quantity, a few broken ribs, a crushed finger, and a not-too-sprained ankle.

For the first time in his life, he was going to need that walking stick.

"A house sounds delightful." Tyradil chimed in.

Tilitalia nodded and studied Kethiah's face "How did you get those injuries?".

Kethiah smiled at Tyradil. "Then tomorrow we should go shopping for one. I can hear out the window that there's a lot of construction going on right now. Maybe it's a good time to have a new house designed for us, just as we want it, instead of getting someone else's old house."

To Tilitalia's question, Kethiah asked. "Do you know what an assassin is?"

The "Different Shade" on the red walls seemed less innocent now...it was shocking to see it, all that blood, splattered around liberally. There was the occasional handprint. Vaan would always wonder, about the stories behind bloody handprints. This time he didn't need to, he was beggining to piece together, in his memory, what had happened.

The dancing, of steel, through Flesh and Bone.

The sand was also less beige now, blood stained it's pure colour. here and there, A body lay, some charred from the magick of the flame, the flame of passion, the passion of the kill.

These people had not gone down without a fight though. Vaan himself had been blown into unconsiousness.

He remembered even more now. The Light on the plinth, was in fact, three identical lights, emitted from enchanted stones.

he had come to this place to take them, anmd these people had been in his way. Or rather, it would be fairer to say, that as soon as they had seen him, they hade made attempts to kick his [censored] back to Oblivion, throught the mediums of blade and magick. The very same mediums that Vaan used to prevent that from happening.

In short, Vaan had had a little playground scuffle with some bully mages and 3 of them had ended up dead.

he got up slowly...and made for the door, limping, and falling over several times on the way out.

Taking the three stones of Command Humanoid with him.

Solunastra: Skein

Skein's office was nothing like Herwyn Brand's. Her books were usually scattered over every flat surface - the desk, the table which was used for alchemical equipment, the tops of the bookshelves, even the floor.

Right now, however, the table was bare. Books, alchemical equipment, even the precious spiderwebs, had been swept away in haste.

Skein looked younger without clothes on. So, for that matter, did Herwyn Brand. Right now he looked almost boyish, relaxed in a way entirely alien to his usual uptight personality. Those who knew him best would have been hard-pressed to recognise him.

And Skein - well. If the people who knew her had seen her now, they would surely have dismissed the scene before them as an hallucination.

"I've been following your fate for some time," Skein said. "You think we only met today, but the truth is we know each other well. I see your path, the threads that gather around you, your past and your future. You want to know what happens next? Most men don't; but then, you are not most men."

There was an interval where neither one spoke.

Skein continued. "Barenziah is going to approach you through one of your own agents. She's feeding you a lie, but I suggest accepting the lie, because it will put an end to the unsolveable conflict between Elysana and this house. Accept the lie, investigate it, act on it; then kill the double-agent when you're done. No harm will come to you, if you are careful; and no harm will come to Elysana in any case. She cannot win, by any means; and this gives her a safe way to cease fighting without harm to her pride. It will put her mind at ease - which is what you most desire."

Herwyn lay very still, watching a bead of sweat, he knew not whose, make it's way over many obstacles, finally dropping onto the polished wooden table.

He listened to Skein's words, succinct as everything was with her, and wondered how many more barriers he would see broken today.

The cynical part of his mind considered, just for a moment, that this had been the General's plan all along; to plant the idea of betraying his Queen in his mind while he was distracted with... other things.

That wasn't the smartest bit of his mind, though, and the other parts knew better. Here before him was a woman who saw no value in lying, because nothing in this world was true. Herwyn had learned what Truth was, in the scant hour he'd spent with Skein, and such knowledge either drives men mad, or brings an unexpected clarity.

"That is what I most desire, if a Queen's mind can ever rest. I'll watch for this lie, and act accordingly."

Summary:
Knight Errant and Shrine Sergeant Joshua Fergusson, has been out sailing a small boat by himself, stripped of a shirt and shoes.

Joshua Fergusson pulled back into the little alcove where he had initially landed, and tied the boat back up again. He brought out his money bag, some common clothing that was clean, and his weapons. He also brought out the badge of his office, Knight Errant of the Hawkmoth Legion Fort. He strapped on the belt that held his weapons and put on a common, tannish-color shirt. He tied the money bag to the belt and set off for the Castle.

When he arrived, he looked around for Kallen, so he could find some work. He finally found him and asked...

"What can I do around here to help out?"

"She's not the only one who hopes that," Loranna says, her thoughts drifting to Jazbet.

Privately though, Loranna wonders how much a small town can keep its character when it becomes a city; well, so long as she and those who had been here all along were around, there was hope.

Hammerfell: Mirea

Quill's Circus had made it out of Orcish Menevia, so really there was no reason for Mirea not to go home...

But she was enjoying it here.

Mirea stood at the far end of the ring, wearing only a flame-colored spangled loincloth and brassiere. Four guar charged her, and she took two running steps, careful not to slip on the sand, before launching herself into the air, in a somersault which took her up and over one of the guar, her palms pressing its back, launching herself again into a second flip. She landed gracefully, in the arms of her waiting partner, and prepared herself to jump again, as the guar tromped heavily in a circle and rounded on her.

Guar were neither fast nor naturally well-armed, but they were heavy. In the early days of learning the new routine she had slipped once or twice and gotten badly bruised. Not as dangerous as the cheering Redguard, who had never seen a guar, thought - but not safe either. Just on the edge of danger, that was what Quill said they were after.

Mirea bowed, and gave a little bounce, ran, and jumped again.

Isidor
While Kethiah and the kids talked, Isidor was in town. Seeing as he was running low on money, and as he felt it was his duty to help out, Isidor was making his way to the construction site, to see if there was anywork that he could assist with.

The animal met with thunderous applause. The Redguards enjoyed it all, particularly the costumes. Quill always adjusted the acts as they went along, not only to keep them interesting for the performers, but also to suit the individual tastes of the audience. Redguards liked the look of flesh, so the usually skimpy outfits got even skimpier. He stopped shy of actually nudity, but just shy.

Quill always came out to announce the next act, between two clown troops, the Crowns and Forebears, who performed ridiculous battles and, depending on the politics of the locals, either the Crowns or Forebears won.

Quill did not, however, come out to announce the next act. After a brief awkward pause, one of the other performers did the duty.

Mirea wasn't on again until much later. The performers weren't supposed to mix until after the show, but there was plenty to see in the tents, the chaos of people dressing and undressing, animals being rounded up, props gone missing. Mirea had become famous in her short stint with the troop as a finder of lost objects. Just now she had discovered the top half of the animal trainer's outfit, 'borrowed' by another girl who had a quarrel with her.

It wasn't like Quill not to show up. She went looking for him.

QUOTE(Allerleirauh @ Oct 7 2005, 07:24 PM)

"No one can make you stay there if you don't want to,"  Mirea said. "And even if they tried... I'd help you run away again. Quill - I don't believe she killed herself. You know why I don't believe she killed herself."

She looked meaningfully at the other people in the room, to show that she wasn't free to talk. Quill knew that Mirea knew he had paid Kethiah to kill his mother.

"So what if you're next, huh?  Cursed family, and all that?"

*

Quill nodded. "I don't know what I believe, but she was happy. Her life had actually just begun, after twenty years of mother ..."

He looked again at the note, and then at all the people in the wagon. "Thank you all. I have to go and take care of this, but I don't want you to miss a single show date. You know the routines, and if I hear you leave a single audience with less than your best performance," he began, issuing his usual bossy threat, and then he stopped. "Well, I know that you won't let me down."

Loranna watches Isidor's children leave, then turns to Kethiah.

"Well, they seem to like you," she says.  "An encouraging start ... I think."

"Better than I could have hoped for," Kethiah laughed. "They do have questions though, don't they?"

Kethiah smiled and hugged her back.  It was strangely ... normal.  She didn't think she would feel so comfortable in such a role.

Waving to them from the bed as they left, she said. "First thing tomorrow morning, we look for a new home."

*

They waved back, and went back to their room.

Meanwhile ...
Isidor, back in town, thought of his children, and Kethiah, and resolved to inquire about a job, first thing in the morning.

He walked back up to the castle, and knocked lightly on Tilitalia's and Tyradil's room. "So, how was it?"

Tilitalia beamed back at him. "Good, I like her. But, we have work to do. Can we talk later?"

Isidor smiled back and said "Sure." He walked down the hall, and knocked on his own room's door. "Can I come in?"

"I'm going with you," Mirea said. "I live in Daggerfall, I know people there. People with money, who can get things done."

She privately resolved to do some investigating on her own as soon as possible.

Quill looked at Paesira, a young acrobat who had been training with Mirea. "Do you think you can handle the guar, and Mirea's other routines?"

Paesira's eyes shone. It was her dream. "Yes, definitely!"

Quill looked to Mirea, and attempted a smile. "Then let's leave immediately and get this over with. I don't want to miss the show in Sentinel."

Reichi had stripped Sings-Of-Death of anything of value, just as any adventurer would do with a defeated foe's corpse. The Argonian's pauldrons, the ebony one and the Admantium one had been salvagable without any big repairs, the Cuirass was in perfect condition, aside from that one scratch and the blood stains, and the spear was also relatively undamaged. Not to mention the lizard had a fairly weighty bag of gold.

To the victor goes the spoils Reichi though as he stood with the collected treasures in a crude sack made from Sings-Of-Death's travelling cloak. And the loser's corpse can spoil...

Reichi headed back to his room in the castle and uncerimonously dumped the loot on the ground, before fetching the cuirass and placing it with the other pieces he had accumulated. Together he had three peices, the Helmet, the guantlets and the cuirass. He grinned at the peices, not many more left.

He left the castle and headed out into town, back to the Drunken guar.

"I hope so.."

She looked down at her food, her face solemn.
She doubted the orb was watching them... but the back of her mind knew better.

They were the only ones on the beach at the time... who else could it have been watching?

Maybe it was Han-... No, imposible. He was dead.

Seeing her face, Thom took Ahjaar's hand to comfort her. "Whats wrong?"

Ahjaar smiled lightly at him, and turned to Reichi.

After the end of the workday, Shaka returned to the yurt and thought about his finances for a moment. He kept his share of the Emperor's reward to the Eight in Loranna's treasury, to be used to build up Ald Raathim in return for no interest paid to Shaka.

If Shaka ever got around to building a permanent home, something he couldn't predict anymore, he might use some of those savings. But for now it seemed better to summon creatures and soultrap them, or periodically return to Vvardenfell to harvest funds.

For now, Shaka decided to continue working to improve Ald Raathim. The yurt was good enough for his needs, since Winter here would bring no snow anyway.
