The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Playing Houses
Posted by: Loranna Oct 3 2005, 01:43 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing
threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
Newcomers, we ask you to http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141737&view=findpost&p=2871855
before starting up; everyone will be happier for it
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP, Chatspike server). This is not just a bunch of
disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character
at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP,
on the Chatspike server. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go
there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if
the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM
them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.
If you do not have MIRC, you can http://www.chatspike.net/?p=javairc. Enter in
a nickname where prompted and hit Submit. You'll be asked if you want to trust
the signed applet. Hit Yes, and you'll be in the main chatspike channel. From
there, type /join #Loranna_RP
You'll enter our chat channel and we can talk to you.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards
they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary
Thom is currently wondering around the area about Ald Raathim. Sometimes, he
needs to drop back into the environment he loves, and that is what the Ranger
is doing now. Also, he is waiting for results from the Mages Guild about the
blue residue, from the, what seemed like, attack on the beach.

Anya shifted nervously, but was extremely glad to see him anyway, "Shaka!"
Shaka smiled down at her, but a little less brightly; he had noticed the change
in her body language. "Good to see you too, Anya."
He looked at the newcomer. Altmer? he thought to himself. Wonder if he's a
Psijiic like those we saw in the spheres of the gods. . . . "Drakar,"
he nodded, and shook the Altmer's hand.
Goranthir looked older, in the eyes at any rate.

The Inner Sea
There was absolutely no warning. The seabirds continued to call, the water
rocked gently.
And then, suddenly, the eastern wall of the cabin seemed to disintegrate into
flame. The percussive force knocked Barenziah and Tris to the floor.
There were screams coming from the deck, the unbearable death cries of brave
men dying in agony, and other voices, steady but afraid, yelling, "We are
under attack!"

when he came barrelling out of her cabin half-dressed.
His Void Ranger travelling abilities weren't available to him over water. His
self-enhancing abilities, however, worked just fine. Tris spoke a string of
power and reached into the other planes to give himself more magicka than any
Breton had ever been born with. Then he cast a shield spell on the queen. And
then a water breathing spell, just in case.
He kissed her, then ran up the stairs to the deck.

There might have been a time when the guards would have shown a bit of
unprofessional amusement at a 20-year-old Breton lad leaping half-dressed out
of the Queen Mother's cabin. But today wasn't that time.
Balls of fire washed across the deck, but the remaining guards had cast shields
on themselves, and were buffeting the assault. The sails were already engulfed
in flame. The shorter one had already fallen: Tris had thankfully just missed
the moment when it had fallen in a blanket of flame onto two guards, but their
blackened corpses were still visible.
Four ships without flags or distinguishing marks were flanking the Queen
Mother's barge. Dunmer battlemages were at the sides, continuing the assault,
unmercifully, inexhaustibly.
"They came out of nowhere!" one of the guards yelled to Tris.
"The Queen Mother, is she all right?!"
Barenziah answered that question, appearing on the deck in her robe, a sword in
hand, her eyes fierce.
At that moment, the ship lurched. It was taking water.

"I'm afraid I can't do that. It is my duty to see that you do not live. If
I go, I would have to send others in my stead, and I came here myself to avoid
having to do that.
"I apologize for the awkward conversation," he said, a long red sword
flickering into existence in his left hand, "but I'm not really an
assassin. It just didn't seem right to kill you without a word."
QUOTE(Sheogorath@ Sep 30 2005)
"That
suits me," Kethiah replied. "I'm not in a chatty mood anyhow."
She sent the post flying at Herwyn's head, and, without pausing to see if it
hit, bolted for her cottage.
And now, back to the show...
Herwyn watched Kethiah run for the cottage, feeling the fence rail missile slow
and turn aside as it met his shield spell.
He considered stopping her, the words of one of his college teachers coming to
him, "Whatever your enemy wants, you do not," but instead he waited.
Just as the door slammed shut behind the assassin, Herwyn made a small gesture
and the lock clicked shut. With a soft roar a ball of fire rolled from his
clenched fist, followed by another, and instantly the little cottage was
ablaze.
Herwyn didn't stop. Another magical barrage made the wooden roof buckle, and
another broke the thick glass windows and threatened to bring down the corner
of the little house.

sword, and removed the ring. Straight down, from 20 feet - the ebony longsword
driven at the battlemage's head like a spike. He would be visible when he
landed. That meant he would have to move fast.

There were weapons and poisons and plenty to fight with in the cottage, but

The darkness swallowed her as she dropped down into the Dwemeri ruin she had
built the cottage on top of.

OOC Summary
Reichi is wandering about Ald Raathim, after having helped Isidor after he got
his [censored] handed to him by a Alit.
---
Reichi, while wandering about Ald Raathim watched some of the construction,
esspecially the work on the Arena. He thought back to the small town when he
had first seen it and how it was now. Though the Blue Dawn was a terrible
thing, it did have some good reprocussions, like Ald Raathim's growth. If not
for the dawn, it would have remained small and unimportant, now it was growing.
Rising from the ashes.
Reichi soon tired and elected to head into the Drunken Guar to see if anyone
was there. When he arrived he noticed several of the group inside. "Hey
guys," he said, and stopped to look at the Altmer with eyes of fire. A
altmer Dunmer halfbreed. Seems some high elves don't mind being 'impure'...
he thought to himself.
Posted by: Teleran Oct 3 2005, 02:27 AM
Teleran grabbed his pack of potions and headed down to
the library to check how many he had left. He activated the enchantment on the
arm and before removing it, last time he had been in the library the gauntlet
had torn the binding of the book he was reading, he had managed to repair it
before anyone had noticed, but he wasn’t anxious to try that again. When he
laid his things out in the library his image-arm clipped through the desk
jarringly enough to remind him that there was nothing actually there.
The first potions out were the potions from Gemin, one a pale orange and the
other a deep turquoise. He still didn’t know what they were supposed to do and
so placed them aside so they wouldn’t get mixed in with the other potions. With
them came a note from inside the pack on worn parchment some parts of the text
were unreadable. It appeared to be a letter:
To my love […]
[…] take great care […] lose […] blue potion is […] own enjoyment, […] use it
around me […] dead man. […] Be sure to give the orange potion to my younger
brother while taking your fool ‘adventure’ into Gemin. […] may even save his
life […] have given much to the great One for certain modifications […] if you
fail she will take your soul […] has ruled a female heir unacceptable […] to my
brother […] leaving my sister […] no acceptable heirs […] turquoise for Father
[…] your return rule together […] our Kingdom under the Goddess […] I await
your success in our service to our Lady.
[…]ncess […]
Well that was odd, he hadn’t noticed that before, oh it had been stuck in a
side pocket of the pack which he had just torn open now, not actually with the
potions. Served him right for not going through the pack he had taken before
using the potions inside. Dead man must refer to the fall in other’s esteem
after using the potion he himself had used, the pretty potion, or warn against
taking what you could get away with while using it. The other two appeared to
be poisons of some kind, have to avoid those.
He spent the next half hour sorting potions while looking for a fortify
intelligence potion and finally found one, not particularly strong
unfortunately, but he had been burning through that stock, drinking them like
water. He put this one aside for use. No restore magicka’s left, it looked like
a trip to the alchemists’ was in order and he’d have to work on moderating his
potion use.
With his potion supply sorted, he retrieved a few books from the shelf and
started reading. This one was about Jephre, the Wood Elven God and his gifts of
song and affinity with nature. The next tome he read was titled The Words of
Clan Mother Ahnissi. He reread the reference to Yffre and his deceiving the
Wood Elves and looked at the book he had read previously, Of Jephre. He
had the feeling there should be a connection there but he wasn’t sure why or
what it was. He reached for the fortify intelligence potion.
He pulled a long draught from the potion he picked up, draining it. As the
first drops hit his tongue he noticed fairly quickly that it wasn’t the right potion,
however it was very good, slightly sweet with a creamy texture; very nice going
down. He set the flask back down, having drunk it anyway due to its soothing
texture. He felt its contents flowing through his veins as he looked to see the
fortify potion still sitting there, and the other potions still organized by
type. Realization dawned on him as he looked for the two potions from Gemin and
saw only the turquoise potion. He didn’t have time to think much further than
that as he felt its effects roll over him. He felt pressure across his body as
bones and flesh reshaped themselves.
A few seconds later
The strange sensation was dissipating quickly, only evident now where his arm
should have been and even that was leaving now. He pulled himself up, swaying
unevenly. Weight was distributed oddly, too much on his left side for one thing
and his center of gravity was far too high.
He held his arms up in front of his face, his left arm was still present so the
illusion must still be running. He moved to gather the potions back up; he was
supposed to be helping with construction today. He received a nasty shock when
he jammed his left thumb against the table. “OW! Wait you go through…” his jaw
dropped, waving it through the air before stopping in awe. His arm was there.
Also he felt an odd sensation of motion at his chest and had thrown himself off
balance straightening so quickly; had barely caught himself before falling
over. He looked down to determine the reason for this and yelped in surprise.
Her ash-skinned face tried to turn crimson; she should have brought her cloak.

themselves, and were on the deck next to Tris, fighting the battlemages.
"You have more immediate problems than her!" Tris shouted, struggling
to free his sword from the battlemage's skull. It occurred to him that he wanted
them to attack him. Maybe they would catch their own ship alight in the
crossfire. In any case, each person attacking him was one fewer attacking
Barenziah.
He ran up on a second battlemage, using all his speed, driving his full weight
onto his sword blade. Dragon had once called him a lost cause as a swordsman;
clearly Dragon just hadn't known how to motivate him properly.

He turns and looks at Goranthir hard
"Interesting, as he turns back to Kratos, the temple has been seeking out
every last person they can get. Granted a few have lost faith in the temple and
generally make their way into my service. You might wan't to come up to Khuul

Summary
Reichi soon tired and elected to head into the Drunken Guar to see if anyone
was there. When he arrived he noticed several of the group inside. "Hey
guys," he said, and stopped to look at the Altmer with eyes of fire. A
altmer Dunmer halfbreed. Seems some high elves don't mind being 'impure'...
he thought to himself.
Teleran hurried back to his room, avoiding contact with the servants as she
could. Closing the door quietly she looked over the results of the potion.
After changing into a hooded robe, the one she had received from Kratos not too
long ago, and pacing around the bed and climbing over it until she got a feel
for walking now. She headed down to the Drunken Guar, there were always people
there and a good drink would go a long way to steadying her nerves at this
point. Teleran made her way to the tavern quietly, trying not to draw attention
to herself.
Spotting Reichi she went over to him and tugged on his arm to get his
attention, “Umm, Reichi, I have a bit of a problem…” She started.

Slyvos walked through the town, tripping over one of the
blocks of stone that was lying around, probably because he was looking up at
the sky as though he expected something to fall onto his face.
'note to self... look down next time.'
He picked himself up and continued walking, seeing the kids that were gathered
around allie as she easily lifted the large blocks and such.
'kids... so easily amused; they don't know how lucky they are....'

Vas
There were weapons and poisons and plenty to fight with in the cottage, but
Kethiah felt the very structure shake the moment she stepped inside. She
grabbed an ax and broke through the wall behind her closet door.
The darkness swallowed her as she dropped down into the Dwemeri ruin she had
built the cottage on top of.
Herwyn watched as the cottage's roof collapsed in a shower of sparks. He
expected the sour-faced man to return soon, drawn by the column of smoke rising
from the farmstead.
The mortar cracking under the heat, a good bit of the building fell with a
crash, but still no one escaped the wreckage.
"A job half done..." Herwyn muttered, and approached the blazing
cottage door. The flames flickering around his magically protected skin, he
stepped sideways at just the right angle, and entered the Void.
The stone and metal corridors of the Dwemer ruins spread out below him in the
darkness like a roadmap. He watched the running Kethiah, thinking that this
must be what a hawk feels like, and wondered if hawks felt regret, just before
stooping.
Herwyn had learned, in the time he had spent trapped in this horrid non-place,
a curious fact; the wall between the world and the Void was a one-way gate to
magic. It seldom passed out into the Void, but nothing stopped it from passing
into the world.
Herwyn raised his hand, and a blue bolt of electricity arced toward Kethiah,
out of nowhere.

Where were the queen's own battlemages? The lookouts who might have warned

He was going to have to get even more serious. And he wasn't General Light,
this was already about as serious as he knew how to get. He couldn't even call

He reached in to the Void with another string of power.

Now his skill was unbeatable, and his strength godlike. His sword broke in his

Then he entered. He was quite a sight, what with his full Templar Armor, and

sat his helmet in front of him on the table. He looked around, and saw the
Indoril. It surprised him greatly. He hadn't in his wildest dreams expected to

"Are you here to stop me?" he asked the black form of Leseth, trying

Suddenly terrified that he might again be trapped in the endless dark with such

At least I didn't ruin a good shirt, he thought, before remembering that
his shirt was at the bottom of the ocean now.
He took to the air himself, flying to meet the approaching battlemages. It was
pointless to cast spells on a battlemage; they almost always had some sort of
reflect abilties, and it was a good way to get toasted. But they had no real defense
against having their necks wrung by a boy with the strength of a dozen men.

As he walked out of the tavern, he turned to the others, "I will be at

And run he did, towards the arena.
Drakar shrugs his shoulders
"I guess the wine will have to wait."
He runs after Goran, pretending to try and keep up, but actually acting as a

Deciding that the Indoril could be trusted, he told his
story...
"I was on a trip to Mournhold, Myself and a few other Imperial Guardsmen.
We were on a small boat being piloted by an amateur, and we got caught in dense
fog that lasted for 8 days straight. We finally ended up in this inlet.
Everyone but myself elected to go on shore and explore from there. They had not
the trained eye as I have, and I knew there would be some type of ship in this
inlet. I finally found one and followed it to the docks in this town. I got out
of the boat and tied it up a little ways downshore in a small alcove for
protection, then walked up here. I wandered around town for a bit then found
this tavern. I decided to come in and see if they had any Cyrodilic Brandy, but
of course, that mission was cut short when I happened to see yourself here. I
decided to see if a new friend could made and I started talking with you. That
is my story, now, if you may be so kind, would you mind telling me, how a
Former Ordinator and Captain of the Watch in Vivec, ends up in this small town,
near the border with Skyrim?" He inquired. He pulled up a chair and turned
it around backwards. His hands and forearms rested on the back of the chair,
while his chin rested on the topmost forearm.

The
Dwemeri Ruins of Vas
It was a long, slow, agonizing climb up the nearly sheer metal walls of the
pit, but Kethiah was Kethiah. Her body was capable of doing things that
required others to use magicka. And then she would exceed them.
With a last groan, she foisted herself up out of the pit, allowing herself a
moment to feel the pain before she drove it from her mind.
She looked up and saw Herwyn. The sword was already in movement.
Herwyn had started to wonder why he was waiting. Was this some sort of
misguided honor, wanting to be 'fair'? Was he so cruel as to play with his
prey? He wondered how anyone could actually do this sort of thing for a living.
Seeing the bloodied woman drag herself, at last, over the sharp edge of the
pit, he decided to put a quick end to the matter, and brought his sword down
heavily on the struggling woman's upturned face.

stopped for a moment to breathe. His hands were smoking, and the skin felt as
if he'd plunged them into hot sand.
At least I didn't ruin a good shirt, he thought, before remembering that
his shirt was at the bottom of the ocean now.
He took to the air himself, flying to meet the approaching battlemages. It was
pointless to cast spells on a battlemage; they almost always had some
sort of reflect abilties, and it was a good way to get toasted. But they had no
real defense against having their necks wrung by a boy with the strength of a
dozen men.
He chanted, and a shield spell surrounded him.
Seven of the Queen Mother's Guard followed Tris into the air, their swords out.
The fireballs the battlemages launched at them were absorbed or reflected. They
met them in melee, and blood showered onto the ocean. Tris could see the
shadows of slaughterfish beneath the waves, waiting for those who fell.
Behind him, he heard the crash of one ship striking into the other, and the
battle was on across the decks. Barenziah's guards were not letting her fight,
but she was manning the wheel of the first ship.

Tris fervently hoped that both ships weren't too damaged to be sea-worthy. He
wasn't Vivec, who could teach a whole nation to breathe water.
He discovered something, in the process of wringing a female Dunmer
battlemage's neck: the sensation of wringing a humanoid neck, of feeling
muscles and tendons and cartilege crushed beneath his fingers, was not a
pleasant one. Something in the pit of his stomach told him it was wrong.
And the sound, the popping, tearing sound.
He stopped himself from retching, but his voice was too faint to be heard as he
asked the guardsman nearest him for a sword. Like that made sense: putting a
piece of metal into someone's body was much better than his bare hand.
No good. Tris fell back on enchantments, raising the strength and speed of the
queen's other fighters, healing them, shielding them.

At some point, all battles turn one way or the other, and the conclusion
becomes obvious to all. The battlemages, though they must have known that they
were losing, kept up the assault to the last man, who fell into the water,
shrieking, torn apart by slaughterfish. There was to be no interrogation.
Barenziah did not need one. "I recognize these ships even without
flags," she said. "They are Indoril."
Of the five vessels that had battled in the Inner Sea, two remained that were
seaworthy. They were smaller than the Queen Mother's barge had been, but over
half of Barenziah's retinue had perished. Three guards sailed the first ship,
and Barenziah, Tris, and five other guards took the second as they continued on

What are you doing? she would have said, if her dry throat had allowed

Herwyn had been in a battle or two or a dozen. He'd swung a killing blow once
or twice... or a thousand times. He'd lost track. One didn't become a Companion
to the Queen without experience.
He watched as his blade missed a second time, and this time he felt it. Not
magic, but a feeling like something bending. Something that, if he pushed
harder, might just break.
The ridiculous thought suddenly occured to him that in that moment, his sword
might instantly become a roasted chicken leg.
Perhaps it was some odd, ancient Dwemer device at work. Perhaps he was simply
going mad. (That possibility seemed more likely, given the feeling in his
neck.) Regardless, battles should be fought on advantageous ground, and this
obviously was not such ground for Herwyn.
Without a word to the dumbstruck woman, he turned, walked toward the corner of
the room, and disappeared.
The usually silent Void was filled with a deep, slow laughter.
"So it was you who stopped me, then," Herwyn said to the giant form
of Leseth.
The laughter stopped.
"No, Herwyn Brand. Not I."
Without warning, the black-cloaked thing was gone.

struck her that she did not want to do anything she would regret right now,
well, at least not to compound the initial transformation. And being drunk
would not help things.
She rushed back to her room in the castle and straight to her room to change,
the robe was a bit too encompassing at the moment for her tastes. A few minutes
later, she was dressed in some fairly nice pants and a shirt that fit rather
oddly being meant for what she had looked like a few hours earlier. She opened
the door and stepped out of the room.

this is hurting Morgiah, true, but they're also making Goran and his closest

"Lastly, a Redoran spoke to Goranthir today at the tavern . . . . He gives

Drakar. Goranthir not only listened to him but ended up running to find

It's all right, she thought to herself, trying to hold her perennial
calm, It's not what you think. It wouldn't, shouldn't, couldn't be. See?
It's a blue-eyed Dunmer, how common are those? Teleran must have a twin sister.
Comforted, but still not quite serene, still a little agitated, Shai said,
"Sorry about that, is Teleran in?"

"Thank
you for your time, Dres Loranna," said Shaka, and sat down.
"Isidor headed to the castle with me, but it looks as if he wants to talk
to you separately."
Shaka put the pamphlet on Loranna's desk. "I found this in the
bookstore today, though it seems to be the only copy in town, for all I
know. Now I know what you were discussing with Allerleirauh, Goranthir,
and Tris at the wedding."
"I just wanted to express my concern, which a lot of the others would
probably echo, and say that we want to help Goranthir, you, and Solunastra
however we can."
"I don't understand how this was leaked in the first place. Whoever
wrote this is hurting Morgiah, true, but they're also making Goran and his
closest friends into targets."
"Lastly, a Redoran spoke to Goranthir today at the tavern . . . . He gives
the impression of being highly connected, at the least. A half-Altmer
named Drakar. Goranthir not only listened to him but ended up running to
find Allerleirauh. I just want to give you a heads-up in case this is
connected to the pamphlet, or is even something new."
He studied Loranna sympathetically for a second. "I don't envy you
your responsibilities, my Lady."
Neither do I some days, Loranna thinks to herself briefly, but seeing
Ald Raathim grow is worth being the hopeless new noblewoman sometimes.
She reads the phamplet, frowning. "This is ... rather sensationalist
..." she says, her tone betraying a note of disapproval. "Still ...
yeah, I see your point ..."
She should go talk to Allie about this, though it sounded like Goranthir
already was. Something else Shaka said makes her stay in her seat for a moment
longer, though.
"Drakar, you say?" she asks Shaka. "Tell me more about this
Redoran; did you speak with him yourself?"

Anya put her hand on top of Maranda's, "It's no because you gave me the
kisses. It's what I felt. One among many things I just don't understand. I do
have to wonder though. What made you want to help me? This is about the third
time we've talked up front. And what did you mean when you said you think the
House of Dibella suited me?"
'Why did I sugest that Dibella suited you? Thats simple,' Maranda looked deep
into Anya's eyes, 'for you have the one thing that Dibella prizes above all
else, beauty. You are a beautiful girl, Anya, and Beautiful girls should not
suffer. Hence why I helped you, I feel a connection to you none the less,' she
changed her position so that now she was sitting on Anyas lap, facing her face,

Shai was taken aback by this response, pushing the woman away from the embrace.
What, was she mad?
"Um, is Teleran in...?" she asked hesitantly. Are you going to
assault me? Do I need to call the guards? Or should I just manage on my own?
Then she saw the expression on the woman's face; it was familiar, and she could
read it clearly.
She stood, dumbfounded, for a few moments, in silent shock. When she had
marshaled her thoughts she began to speak haltingly.
"What have you done? How? What do you expect me to do now? ...What...? At

Kratos arrived at the Arena when night fell. He began to
light torches around the trenches. After making the area well lit, Kratos
grabbed a shovel and began hefting big piles out of the trenches.

Yet even as she was walking to the Castle, Ma[/I]randa felt a twinge in her stomach, as she should be going to the Tavern. She changed direction, and pushed the door open, to find Anya sitting there alone. She approched her, 'Do you mind if I sit down? It seems you want to talk to someone'
Obviously, Maranda had overlooked Reichi. Not like it was hard, with his back
turned to the tavern door and his netch armor he could have been just about any
Dunmer with silver-white hair. He was watching and listening to the bard,
drinking a mug of mead. He was contemplating what was on the pamphlet Shaka had
shown them, and such not paying much attention to his surroundings.
Mannimarco, Margiah made a pact with the King of Worms, he thought. Not
only is she heartless, she's siding with a Necromancer. Crazy crazy [censored].
Not to mention signing away your own son for political power. Crazy [censored].
Could be a lie though. The common Tongue badmouthed Helseth, didn't see him
lose much power. Bah.
His mind returned briefly to the music. The bard, a Argonian, was singing a
particulary gorey sound about a band of warriors and a massive battle,
describing in verse as each of them fell in battle. Morbid, but entertaining.
Most of the Nords in the tavern were rather interested, if not for the song,
than the fact a Argonian was singing it.

Without a word Solin appeared at the lip of the trench.
He merely stood there, silently watching as Kratos dug. He pondered the sight a
moment and then turned on his heel and disappeared from view.

QUOTE(Sheogorath @ Oct 2 2005, 09:18 PM)
At
some point, all battles turn one way or the other, and the conclusion becomes
obvious to all.
Of the five vessels that had battled in the Inner Sea, two remained that were
seaworthy. They were smaller than the Queen Mother's barge had been, but
over half of Barenziah's retinue had perished. Three guards sailed the first
ship, and Barenziah, Tris, and five other guards took the second as they
continued on to Ald Raathim.
None of the dead men had shoes that would fit Tris. And he was picky about the
fit of his shoes. A blister, to an ordinary man, was an inconvenience; to him,
it was a calamity.
With so few people there was no time to stop and talk, no time to wash off the
blood, no time to think. The casual, part time job of manning the sails had
become constant hard labor. And none of them were skilled at it.
At least the weather seemed to be holding.
Tris's back was sunburnt by the time they neared Ald Raathim.

QUOTE(Shardie @ Oct 2 2005, 10:05 PM)
'I see, well if thats the case you can browse in the weapon shops and buy some new armour. Look, this is where I must leave you, tell Loranna I said hi when you meet her, and I hope you do take my advice and visit for a bit,' she smiled before giving Anya yet another kiss. This one unlike the other three was long and lasting, but even then, no tounge, she smiled, and dashed up the stairs cheekly
Maranda left before Anya could ask any questions, or even say goodbye. A tingle
lingered on her lips, similar to the one time Shaka kissed her, a Strong
Redgaurd standing before her.
She wanted to scream "Stop teasing me!" but held her tongue. Needing
to shift her focus, she wheeled around and walked towards the Mage's Guild for
some more training. She practiced a bit with shield and chameleon spells as she
walked.
Her skills were coming along nicely, as she understood how the magic operated.
How illusions bent people's views of reality, and alterations changed physical
objects.
And it helped that her purse was adequately large enough to pay from her visit
to Daggerfall, after the wedding.

"Sujamma," Reichi replied, and followed
Shaka's gaze. He wonders why the Khajiit seemed to be writing so hurridly, but
similarly dismissed it.

The Coast off Ald Raathim
QUOTE(Allerleirauh @ Oct 2 2005, 11:21 PM)
None
of the dead men had shoes that would fit Tris. And he was picky about the fit
of his shoes. A blister, to an ordinary man, was an inconvenience; to
him, it was a calamity.
Barenziah did not travel with great pomp anymore. Oh, certainly, she had done
it as a young queen because it had been foisted on her, and then later, because
she enjoyed it. But then after she went to Wayrest, her taste for ostentatious
display had left her. Maybe it was because, at the time, she didn't want to
attract the attention of Jagar Tharn. Mostly, though, it was too much fuss for
too little benefit. A great entrance had its place, of course, but as Queen
Mother, her role in government was subtler.
Still, for as relatively casual as her traveling usually was, her arrival at
Ald Raathim was looking to be too gruesome. Her hair was a tangle from the
wind. Her dress was one of the battlemages' robes, specked with blood.
The Queen Mother hoped the Lady of Daruhn was near her Mirror.
"Loranna," she murmured.

Meanwhile, somewhere off the coast of
Northern Skyrim
Falco sat brooding in his cabin. His orcish bodyguard Grugzock stood at attention,
not wanting to be seen slacking off after what had happened to that unfortunate
new recruit.
Three hours earlier
The crew had been dining loudly with much grog as they all did. One of the new
members had gotten exceptionally drunk and began loudly telling embellished
tales of his own deeds. Now this was normal as half the crew was doing it, but
this rather unlucky man had been swinging his hands wildly as he told the story
of how he killed a minotaur with his bare hands. Those same hands had accidentally
spilled the argonian captain's goblet of wine. The room fell silent for a
moment and Falco gave him an icy glare.
"Ten lashings for the fool. I will not tolerate drunken clumsiness on my
ship!"
His shirt was removed and he was tied the flogging pole of the ship. Falco was
given a whip and he began lashing the man, who screamed in agony.
"1[lash].. 1 and a half [lash].... 2..." Finally after this was
finished and the screams ended. Falco brought saltwater from below deck and
poured it on his split back. This was adding even more pain to the man's agony.
"No healer for him. I want those wounds to heal naturally." He left
for his cabin and the crew shuffled below deck to finish their meal below deck,
leaving their crewmate to suffer on deck.

Vas
Gherin stood at the edge of the desolation of Kethiah's farm. As Herwyn had
expected, he had returned, cautiously, when he heard the attack.
A hot winter wind blew dust over the pretty little herbs and flowers she had
grown in her garden. They would die soon, as their mistress had. Eventually the
land would reclaim the farm, and it would be yet another ruin in a land of
ruins.
Gherin walked back towards his village. There were few to tell that Kethiah was
dead, and few among those would even care. He was not even sure if he was one
of them. She had paid him well, but she had frightened him too. The simple life
of a peasant and farmer appealed to him now.

The Mages Guild of Ald Raathim
It was more than a dozen royal guards, twenty of them in fact, who arrived by
way of the Guild. The Guide looked at them, astonished, not mollified when they
presented themselves, under orders of the King of Morrowind.
They began the march towards the castle through the village streets.

Kallen had only just excused the workers from the construction on the
cliff-side of the castle when the two ships sailed in, skirting the edge of the
mangroves, entering the private bay by Loranna's castle.
The Dunmer captain of the guards introduced himself to Loranna, a serious man,
of more than middle-age, judging from his battle scars. Ulymir was his name.
After hearing that Barenziah is making her landing, he takes a portion of the
guards (leaving the rest at the castle to make certain it's secure) with him to
greet the ships. The beach was too shallow for the ships to pull up all the
way, and so Barenziah, Tris, and the eight guards who were left of her
entourage waded through the water to shore.
An exceptionally shabby entrance for the Queen Mother of Morrowind. She was
right to make sure few saw her that way.

welcome back to Ald Raathim," she says, her eyes flickering over the
Queen's beleagured guards, noting their wounds. She kept herself from letting

Gnisis
The young dunmer from Maar Gan returned to the council. "I have a coded
message from Councilor Drakar. Attack is immanent, be on alert. That is
all it said. Some hours ago he sent out several messengers from Khuul, one of
them returned and then he left. We can only guess where he went. I do not know
the content of the other messages, but some went out to our troup
commanders."
The council is silent for a while. They called a recess until they could find
out what is going on. Gnisis goes on full alert. There have been no reports
from any of the agents sent to find the emmisary to House Indoril. Now they can
at least guess why. Agents are dispatched to find out what exactly is going on
and to recall Councilor Drakar to Gnisis if possible. Messengers are sent to
Blacklight to advise them of possible trouble.

QUOTE(Loranna @ Oct 3 2005, 04:16 PM)
Loranna's
brow furrows and she frowns as she looks over to Isidor.
"I don't think this is a good time," she says quietly.
"The Queen Mother's guards are already on edge enough as it is; this isn't
the time to be calling out to random people through the very mirror she gave
me."
"Later, when things calm down," she assures Isidor. "For
right now though, let's just take things easy."
She glances at Slyvos, her eyes saying she wants to talk to him later, before
heading to heal the bruises and scratches of Barenziah's men.
Isidor nodded, and walked back to his room, where he sat on his bed, and
sighed. He hoped Kethiah was alright ...

Slyvos shrugged, disappearing again and returning to the
library, locking the door behind him with magic as he entered. Anyone that
lived in the castle though would be able to get in... if they had the key.

Tris took a few moments to go home to Solunastra, bathe,
and change clothes. It took him fully five minutes to scrub the caked blood
from under his fingernails to his satisfaction.
There was always a price for touching the Void. Either Void Sickness, the
strange lassitude that came from feeling untouchable, godlike, no longer a part
of the world; or fractures in the stability of the Mundus, as they had recently
witnessed when ghosts began to flood the world of the living; or - now this,
apparently. Just plain getting sick at your stomach, because no man should
really be able to punch his fingers through another person's sternum.
Tris looked in on Ciel, but did not speak.
He checked the environs of Ald Raathim from the Void. As far as he could tell,
no one here was currently planning an attack on Barenziah. Goranthir was safe.
Barenziah was safe.
He met Dragon in the Void. Void meetings were rare. There was so much space. It
was as likely as two stars meeting in the sky.
"You're doing my job, lad," Dragon said. "I'm Loranna's spymaster,
in a pinch, it seems. The General says to give you this."
Dragon handed Tris a poorly printed, single-page flyer. Tris went Inside, to
Ald Raathim, to read it.

"Do
you remember that caligrapher in the tavern? The one writing ferverntly? I'm
probably just over-reacting, but the way she was dressed didn't strike me as
your average minstrel or bard. And I just want to make sure I'm just being
paranoid. So come with me and let's 'talk'." Anya lowered her eyes,
downcast, "Oh, and there really is something I need to tell you, so it's
kind of a two-fold matter."
Anya walked into the tavern, noting that there wasn't anyone she knew, or any
discussions aside from the normal chatter.
She sat down, so she could observe the tavern more, and could note the behavior
of the minstrel. Her brow was creased, upset, "Well, Maranda has... taken
a shine to me. She, she suggested that we spend some time apart, to test our
feelings. And that I should look into the House of Dibella, though not quite
the way you had in mind."
Shaka looked down for a moment, his jaw muscles tightening. "Thanks for
your honesty. . . . I saw you and Maranda walk out of the tavern earlier."
"Do what you have to do, as far as talking to the Dibellans. You don't
have to visit them unless you choose to do so. I want you to be healed . . . and
it doesn't matter what I want, in the end."
"I'm going to talk to the bard." He stood up and walked over to the
Khajiit's table, sitting down uninvited.
"Hello, sunshine. What are you writing?"

He leaned forward and sniffed near her neck, as in a couple dancing.

Dragon stepped Inside, momentarily, and entered the tavern.
He laid a heavy hand on T'Zar's shoulder and said, quietly, in her ear, "I

Tris flared his nostrils slightly. It took some getting used to, how quickly
the General came to a point.
"You believe my actions are treasonous against the legacy of Vivec, Kratos
may believe that too," Barenziah nodded, her eyes on Allerleirauh.
"But, my dear, you are not the guardian, accidental or otherwise, of Lord
Vivec's legacy. The people of Morrowind are. And there is nothing you or I can
do to destroy that, or insure its permanency. The Houses are a byproduct of
another time, useful then, a hinderance now. If they are to survive, they must
adapt, or the land is doomed."
"Grandmother --" Goranthir interrupted. "I'm sorry, but if you
knew Allerleirauh, you wouldn't --"
"Oh, I like her," Barenziah smiled. "And I see you do too."

as sharp as ever.
"You might have found me opposed to your plans, if it were not for
Goranthir, your majesty. As matters stand, his goals are my own, and you are
his champion, and he is yours. But I would like a better understanding. The
original purpose of the House system, as I understand it, was to ensure that
the Chimer, a naturally rapacious and quarrelsome people, would be so divided
that one strong tyrant could not easily rise from within their ranks. The
system has worked well for many years. It has not prevented Morrowind from
maintaining a united front against its enemies. What has changed now?
"If you were to tell me that King Helseth is your son, and so it is your
desire that the throne be strengthened, I would not question you. If you tell
me the land is doomed unless the Houses are abolished, I must say that I do not
see what you mean."

"I did not know we were trying to speak honestly to one another,"
Barenziah said. "Surely your rather calculated, political response to my
earlier comment about your role in selling my grandson's soul to the King of
Worms suggested otherwise ... Unless among your abilities is the power to see
sixteen years into the future, and see that Morgiah and Reman's son was bound to
be the treasure Goranthir is ..."
"Grandmother," Goranthir interrupted her again.
"My apologies, that was unbecoming of me, but I am tired," Barenziah
nodded her head. "I do not share Vivec's vision for a divided land of
universal turmoil, necessary because the Chimer are a much worse people than
the other races of Tamriel. I do wish my son and his heirs to rule the land as
more than Imperial figureheads. And I do believe truly -- and you should trust
me to know that I have spies throughout the land -- that with the falling of
the Tribunal, power was going to change. You may call it tyrannical of me and
my son to seize it, but to leave it lie and hope that whoever took it would be
wise would be much worse."

"Anytime." He said. As she rested, his thoughts drifted. Where was Kethiah? Why hadn't she gotten in contact with him, or at the very least tried? Maybe something had happened. Maybe the same people from the circus had made another attempt on her life. He shook his head. He had to use Loranna's mirror, soon.
Shaka approached Isidor, and motioned for quiet. He sat down and let Anya fall
against his shoulder, still asleep.

"A good answer," Allerleirauh said. "Your majesty. Morgiah also
asked why I did her work, if I found it distasteful. Twenty-two years ago I was
not my own agent. That is all I will say on that subject. But I know you are as
aware as I am that sometimes distasteful business is necessary.
"As it happens, I agree with you: someone will seize power. Even if it
were within my abilities to restore the primacy of the Temple in the hearts and
minds of the Dunmer people, that is not my desire. Nor was it Vivec's, unless I
have misunderstood him. He meant the child to stand on its own once the parents
had left."

After sitting for a while, and getting bored, Isidor got
up, and walked through the town. He bumped into Maranda outside of the Mages's
Guild. "Hello there, Maranda, how are you?" He said, in an overly
happy tone, trying not to stare at her chest.

Shaka let Anya sleep for a while, then realized he had been sneaky. Shaka
wanted to apologize to Anya, not surprise her when she woke.
He let her head rest against the chair and moved to a nearby bench to wait.

"Perhaps that will be the concluding chapter to 'The Real Barenziah.' Tris
did tell me that he would talk to you on my behalf about the Temple, but I do
not know what comprimises we might make ... Are you aware that most of the
Redoran and the Temple believes that Almalexia and Sotha Sil still live, and it

"Politics and religion," Goranthir grimaced. "I suppose it is
the same everywhere."
"Worse here," Barenziah nodded. "From my experience, at least.
Can we continue this interrogation of my motivations later? I confess my

and Sotha Sil were powerful in life; although I have not seen evidence of what

Allerleirauh bowed. "I don't mean to be formal, or unfriendly, your

If Barenziah's biography told the truth, she was sanguine by nature, not given
to fretting. But worry was a greatly wearying thing.

Shaka's heart softened to see the girl within the thief/assassin. For a moment,
he wanted to trace the edge of one of her pointed ears, as shapely as a large
