Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: High Rock Hijinks
Posted by: Loranna Apr 18 2005, 05:52 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized
individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and
discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player
whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using
this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.
For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look
http://sekkairc.freewebpage.org/.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna:
Loranna, after a long week of kicking wizard tail and smashing vampire butt, is
currently in Westcastle with Slyvos, enjoying a few creature comforts while she
waits for the witches to finish making Illidan's cure.
BONUS FEATURE!!! Summary for Sharlian, Wizardress of the Tower!
Sharlian is currently having a ... discussion ... with Midave, former employee
of her former tormentors/partners.
QUOTE(Dumbkid @ Apr 17 2005, 11:44 PM)
"Is that all, you haven't decided where to go yet?
Perhaps you should go, and find out when you get there?" Midave
said.
"As for the general disdain for my presence, well, I'm sure the slaves
were fond of lavishing you with praise. As for Louisie and Landil, they
were employers, not family."
Sharlian was duly impressed; she wasn't sure how he did it, but Midave managed
to bring up three unresolved issues in her head with barely a moment's worth of
utterances. If she thought he had done it purposefully, she might have been
tempted to plant her fist in his face, but she had the sinking feeling he was
simply being honest with her, no trickery.
" ... Oh, bloody spoon," she mutters. "Come on; there's a spare
bedframe in the storeroom. We'll have this lug of rock cart it to your room and
get it set up."

quite yet." Midave Astien said, his lips turning up into a smile.
"Thank you very much, Sharlian. Is there anything I could do for

OOC Summary:
Nalion, a Breton wizard, currently is in the cave of the witches.
Nalion had enough of the stuffy air of the cave and stepped outside. The first
warm sunrays of the morning were shining into the cave. When they touched the
vampires' corpses, they began smoldering and shriveling, leaving but small
flakes of ash.
The Breton mage, clad in an unadorned brown and black robe sat down near a rock
and looked up at the sky, watching the clouds pass over him.

could do for you?"
Sharlian sighs quietly, half convinced she's making a colossal mistake in
deciding to let Midave stay. But still ...
"Look, you and I both know if we both abandon the tower, it's only going
to be taken over by bandits or goblins or something," she says. "And
to be honest, the band of adventurers couldn't have carried off more than half
of what's here even if they had been so inclined. You and I are the only ones
left here now and we have Louisie's entire library, his workshop, and a good
amount of both gold and valuable items left around. We might as well figure out
something constructive to do with all this stuff, and as dreary as this place
is, it is a roof over one's head."

"Yes, and a roof is not a blessing to be cast aside too hastily."
Midave said. "I would suggest if we plan to stay here we fortify the
place, try to make sure that incident doesn't happen again. If we plan to go
I'd say we do an inventory of what supplies we have, and take what we

"Avoiding being as blatantly evil as Louisie would be a good start to
avoiding having bands of legendary heroes rip through the front door,"
Sharlian says with a touch of dryness to her voice.
"The adventurers left Louisie's notes, and I know enough of his work to
use those in making some more stone golems," she tells Midave.
"There's still some decent weaponry and armor left even after they took
their pick, and there's enough gold and sellable magic junk that we could both
live on that for most of our lives if we really wanted to. The big concern that
I see is if word gets out about the rare plants we have growing here; up till
recently it was just that stupid coven that knew about them, but now word's
going to get around. With the number of people traveling in that group, it
can't help but get around."
She shrugs. " ... Honestly, though, I think we'd be better off adopting a
different policy from Louisie's in hording that stuff; what I'm not yet sure,
but I'm pretty sure if he'd been a bit more willing to share he'd still be
alive today - thank the Nine for small favors."

And avoiding asking myself too many questions I don't yet feel up to

said. "We should lay low and make plans. What afterwards we
choose to do, that we will see when it comes."
Sharlian's lips curl into a grin. Midave outside of his precious armor was
bordering on the moderately passable. Of course, he had no sword and she had a
sword, her magic, and a stone golem at her beck and call, so he probably was
just playing along until he could turn the tables in his favor, but it was kind
of nice to pretend he was okay company.
She lays a bet with herself on how long it takes before she has the stone golem
scrunch him up into a ball and hurl him off the top of the tower; she places
her bet on two days tops, three on the absolute outside. But until that time,
she at least has someone to talk to, while she figures out just what to do wih
the life Tris and his companions gave back to her, and just how she's going to
live with the things she did before Tris showed up, and wether she really does
want to look for the handsome Breton man when all is said and done.
Thinking of Tris reminded Sharlian of her promise to set Midave up with a new
bedframe; with a word of command she sets off with the stone golem to let the
half-breed warrior have a decent place to sleep at night.

Didryn had been lagging behind due to the painful thoughts of
his family, and had actually collapsed under them at one point. Presently he is
arriving at the mine, avoiding eye contact with the rest of the party.
A lone tear escapes him, and falls to the ground.

OOC: Summary
Cyrcius missed the fight with the vampires, and is waiting at Westcastle for
the cure to be completed.
Cyrcius drew the crowd in with a couple handstands, then flipped to his feet
and began juggling some of his knives. This was something he was very good at
and the people began tossing coins at his feet. As he was performing however,
he saw Grier and a Khajit he recognized but did not know passing through. He
began his finale so he could wrap his performance up. He had other things to
do, and this was just for fun anyway.

red-haired Nord woman with the Khajiit went to the Dirty Muskrat.
Dirty Muskrat
Loranna, once again disguised as Grier, enjoys a meal of venison, bread,
cheese, and wine, her senses nicely warmed up to appreciate the taste. Fully
scrubbed down, clothes cleaned, and conversation with Slyvos caught up on, she
relaxes, wondering what to do with the rest of her day.

Anvil, Cyrodiil
The people stared at her... wondering how she could do it. It was hot, really
hot, but she walked along the streets in that heavy coat. Maranda, for one, did
not notice the eyes staring at her, nor did she notice the heat... it had been
a while since she left Winterhold... and she had alot to think about. She
stopped and thought about things for the time being... where would she go now?
She could not return to her mansion in Narsis for obvious reasons, perhaps she
would treat herself to the hotsprings at Caer Suvio? Or perhaps make her way to
Daggarfall to visit her sister... they had not seen each other in a very long
time... so she decided. She turned heal, and made her way to a coach... she
would go to Daggarfall, via Caer Suvio and Wayrest... she could use a good rest.
She had long handed her robe of Daedric Cleanlieness to the most skilled
enchanter in the country, who in turn, enchanted her white-gold sword with a
strange new enchantment. Her Ring of the Shadows mind was no longer on her
finger, but in her pocket. A strange amulet hung around her neck, an eery power
seeping from it. she was much more skilled now than she was before, not only in
conjoring, but also with her sword and destruction spells...
So she set off on her way, to Cyrodiil, then Caer Suvio, then Wayrest before
returning home to Daggarfall

for herself.
"Still hungry," she says to Slyvos, winking.

Dante waded through a sea of pigs as he approached the town
gates. Having to use more force than he would of liked to get past some of the
pigs. Once he reached the gate he looked to the sky, and took a deep breath…not
the best idea whilst standing shin deep in pigs. He covered his nose and
stepped forward, only to hear a splotching
noise. “Ugh…what is wrong with you people?!” He snarled, to no one in
particular.
Many townsfolk gave Dante nasty looks, “Forgive us, please sir! Forgive us.”
One drooled out sarcastically, laughing. “I have some bugs back at my house, if
that’d make you feel more at home.”
Dante looked around confused, before trudging off to a tavern, somewhere that
he could clean his boot.

Reichi walked into the Tavern, scratching the back of his head.
He brushed pass several leaving bretons, and attracted several stares when he
removed his helmet. A Dunmer, in Highrock, to your average Breton peasant that
was quite the sight. Esspecially one in armor made of the skin of something
you've never even heard of. His unique appearance also didn't help
matters.
Reichi sauntered over to the table where the rest of the group was sitting, and
sat down in a free chair. He set his helmet on the table. "Good to be out
of that rotten cave, and not after some dumb wizard," he said.

all day can get kind of hard on you too; least you guys didn't have that to

The observer was finished with his drink, though. Putting the mug away in a bag

What an interesting fellow, Loranna wonders, noting the large Breton as
he passed the party. Those scars ... a duelist maybe, or just a brawler or
warrior who doesn't like wearing arm armor? Leather and oils ... hrn; my

She considers calling out to the Breton, looking to her companions with a

Loranna wonders, noting the large Breton as he passed the party. Those
scars ... a duelist maybe, or just a brawler or warrior who doesn't like
wearing arm armor? Leather and oils ... hrn; my brain's drawing a blank,
blast it.
She considers calling out to the Breton, looking to her companions with a
questioning glance as she sips her wine.
"Big fellow, for a Breton," Tris said, following her look. He
beckoned to the barmaid. "The man who just left, is he a regular here?
Local?"

"Big fellow?" Lielle returned. "Scars too? Yeah, he comes in
here often enough when he has a job, travellers like to stay here. Goes by the
name Debent."
The Breton barmaid looked thoughtfully at the tavern's door for a moment and
then spoke again.
"The local merchants knock on his door whenever they don't want the law

When Loranna and the others left to go back to Westcastle
Teleran had not gone with them, instead he fiddled with his take from the
tower. He soon regretted that decision, the area around the mine was only
tolerable once you escaped the scent of decay and with the witches doing
whatever it was witches did to create the cure and the vampiric assailants
defeated Teleran found himself with very little to do at the cave.
Only a few hours after the others left for Westcastle, he followed. As he
traveled he continued playing with a few of the enchanted objects he had found
in the tower. The most impressive being an amulet that granted considerable
resistance to fire, the others had little more than minor cantrips on them,
although he had picked up a new arm, and a left pauldron and gauntlet crafted
of ebony. He left the enchanted bracer in his bag still unsure what to make of
it.
When Westcastle come into view he dismounted and walked the rest of the way
into town. Looking back at the horse he was reminded of how hungry he was, not
packing rations for the trip, short as it was, had been an oversight. He headed
for the Dirty Muskrat and ordered some venison and something to drink. He sat
at the table with the others and greeted them before wolfing down his food. He
sat back sighing contentedly, “Good food they have here in High Rock."

The light slowly faded around Yasur Arnakan. He looked around him, and found he
was back in his father's laboratory, it's plant walls sitll whole, as if
nothing had ever happened here.
"What am I doing back here?" Yasur asked, his slender body turning to
face the now absent Altmer.
Where did she go off to? Oh well, may as well look around.
Yasur began to examine the antiquated equipment, peering into the various soul
gems lying around. Yasur spun around at the sound of approaching footsteps, and
saw a Dunmer child running into the room.
"Now where did that cave rat go?" The child said, searching under the
tables and desks. "Ah, there you are! Get back here you stupid rat!"
the child shouted as he dove under a table filled with bottles.
It was then that Yasur realized he was watching himself, but from years ago. He
knew what was about to happen. As young Yasur grabbed the rat, he crashed into
one of the table legs, shattering the brittle, rotten wood. The weight became
too much for the rest of the legs, and with a tremendous crash, the table
collapsed. Potions and poisons spilled everywhere, and young Yasur crawled from
beneath the table covered in glass and liquids of various colours.
"What is going on here!?" Yasur's father shouted furiously as we
walked into the lab. "I TOLD YOU TO STAY OUT OF HERE! NOW LOOK AT WHAT
YOU'VE DONE!" he roared as he grabbed Yasur.
"I'm sorry father, I-"
"I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT! YOU ARE WORTHLESS! YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN
WORTHLESS! AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE WORTHLESS!" He shouted.
Elder Yasur turned away as he heard his father's hand hit young Yasur's face.
With each hit and each sob, elder Yasur became more and more angry at what his
father had done, and was doing. Finally he could take it no longer. He summoned
a crackling shockball, and launched it at his father. After his father fell, he
was once agin surrounded by light, and then nothingness.
The witches' cave
Frostien walked to one of the witches.
"Tell me," he began "Have you had a young woman named Amarie
come to your coven recently?"
"Yes," the elderly woman replied "But she soon left after she
saw exactly what we were doing here. Didn't say where she was going."
"Right, thank you." Frostien replied, a forlorn look coming upon his
slightly wrinkled face.
It's quite obvious she doesn't want me any more. May as well go to the Dirty
Muskrat to meet up with the others. I might just manage to drown my sorrows
too.
Frostien began walking to Westcastle.
The Dirty Muskrat
Frostien walked into the tavern, went to the bar, and ordered a pint of orcgut
and some venison. He looked around the tavern, sptted the others, but decided
to stay where he was for now, giving only a nod to the khajiit.

Loranna frowns a bit, feeling bad for Frostien's romantic troubles. She

"Call me Grier," she says, offering Frostien her hand. "And this

"That's tragic," Loranna says, beckoning the barmaid over to refill

Nearly an era passes and Dante's drink has yet to arrive. There appears to be

Eventually the barkeep ponderously makes his way to the table with the beer

Outside of Westcastle...
Faraway from the eyes of passerbys, an owl sits in a tree watching a Bosmer in
a brown, Netch leather, trenchcoat, have a conversation with an Ogrim.
“You can’t follow me into town. You know that.” Wind says to his protesting,
tremendous, green friend.
Little John growls and defiantly folds his mammoth, green arms.
“The Bobbies are itching to nick us, LJ. We’ll be wearing bars fa’ life if
we’re caught. We’ll be better off apart for now.” Wind tries his hardest to put
an arm around his huge, overprotective friend. “Besides, Mate, I still gotta
make nice with these people if we are ever going to get the law off our hides.
Once I leave town, I’ll find you.”
“Rahh roow?” The Ogrim inquires, shrugging his shoulders.
“I don’t know.” Wind looks around. “Do whatever “normal” Ogrims do.”
Wind struts into Westcastle as Little John solemnly walks, with his head down,
into the nearby woods.

"We should find that big man, he has a crush on that girl. I saw them here
together before."
"Good idea," Loranna says. "And we might as well check out her
place too, and see if anyone saw her leave town yet."
She gives Frostien a smile. "We can see about checking out your mine too,
dear; right now though it sounds like Lielle may be in a spot ..."
She looks to the barkeep. "Just how much did she take, sir?" she
asks.

"It's just money, Lor," Tris said, standing up. "We can make

He went to the door and looked out. "Any idea where that Debent fellow
keeps himself? Someone else run to Lielle's house, quick, see if she's

Rodastyr downed the last of his ale. Taking the expected coin out of his

it spinning smoothly, like a top.
"I'll go, if need be. She won't be there, I'm sure, but I'll see what

Wind struts into the tavern as quietly, and swiftly as his name.
He nonchalantly grabs a chair, turns it backwards, and sets it close to Tris,
before snatching Rodastyr's coin off the table, and taking a seat.

The tavern's owner looked appreicative in light of Tris's
comment to Loranna, relief writ on his face.
"Debent?" the barkeep asked taken aback. "Oh, she did get
herself into trouble. He's the local hired sword. The merchants keep him out
O'trouble so he can go about their illicit dealings. Word has it he has safe
houses around Westcastle and even in the countryside."

On his way into Westcastle, Wind might have noticed a rather large Breton with
scarred arms peering into the woods frowning and, obvious to any onlooker, very
upset.

Rodastyr didn't exactly 'run', as Tris had suggested, but his
stride was long enough. He followed the barkeep's directions; pass the mage's
guild, North, then third on the right.
What a hole. The way some people chose to live... really.
He raised the pommel of his sheathed sword and rapped on the door.

I slept for three days. Coming back from the dead really takes it out of a guy.
I opened my room window and let the orange, morning sun-rays hit my face. My
body still aches, especially my bones, they feel new, like the feeling of
grabbing an old weapon with a new hilt.
A quick glace across the room shows a pair of pants have been left out for me.
Bastards could have gotten a bigger size. Damn things will rip the moment I
bend over.
My back snaps, and cracks, as I stretch in the lukewarm, glare of the morning
sunlight. I still feel like fah’g ran over twice by a gang of wild steeds, but
I’m not for sitting around doing nothing. My blood flows for action, and
venture.
First things first, I gotta find that Nord and get my axe back... I also could
use a smoke. God, could I use a smoke.

out of the room.

exactly rub right with the guild, you know.
"If I knew where this independant was I'd be a richer man, he pissed off a

QUOTE(Rhedd @ Apr 19 2005, 04:25 AM)
Using a clean handkerchief, Rodastyr carefully cleaned the man's
blood from his blade.
"As you say, Sir, you're the one bleeding profusely, not I. That would, if
I were you, make me speak plainly and quickly.
"Tell me what you know of this... situation. The girl, Debent, and their
connection to your fine organization. Then, perhaps, I'll leave you to your
wounds."
"Debent was supposed to come here, that's what and the girl was supposed
to get away. She ran little things back and forth for us and that scum she took
with stirred up the hornets. We offered to protect her from Debent if she told
us where we could find him. There was money exchanged too, of course."

The girl wasted no time in rushing down the stairs.
In the corner near the door, the old grey wolf stood, yawned, and stared at the
Orc.

Tris was absolutely certain the man was lying about some things, but decided
not to press it. He had been expecting someone... he had come charging
up to them, with his face lit up. And Tris was also certain he knew more about
the situation than he was telling.
Time to meet up with Rodastyr and compare notes. They headed back into town, to
the house the innkeeper had described.

"Yes, yes, so you said." Aricyn's voice could be heard coming up the

"Look, why don't you just go down to the kitchen and get yourself a nice

and you think the world is coming to an end. Go on with you."

The Smith's Hall was a long, large, imposing timber hall, built Nord-style,

"The Chief doesn't ask me to sharpen steak knives, Lad. If I'm working on

He led Gris and Aricyn to the far end of the hall, where two men sweated over a
polished, black staff of wood that would make a fine mast for a small boat. It
was being carefully fitted to the huge axe head.

QUOTE(Rhedd @ Apr 19 2005, 06:40 AM)
The old man looked long at the towering Orc, not speaking. The
silence grew uncomfortable. Finally, he said, "Fixing it so a man like you
won't just go and break it again. I take it you're not comfortable being parted
from it? I can see that. It's a fine weapon. Good metal, decent smith. I've
seen better, but it's good.
"The Chief doesn't ask me to sharpen steak knives, Lad. If I'm working on
a weapon, it's getting the royal treatment. C'mon then, this way."
He led Gris and Aricyn to the far end of the hall, where two men sweated over a
polished, black staff of wood that would make a fine mast for a small boat. It
was being carefully fitted to the huge axe head.
"There she is," Floki said. "She told me her name was Luceil.
You can see for yourself, we're taking good care."
Surprising, not totally surprising, but close enough.
I look over the aged Nord with a sneer. “I’ll excuse your earlier comments,
Nord, about the last smith who touched Luciel. Seen better, huh? We’ll see how
Luciel feels when you’re done.”
I don’t wait for either Nord to respond. I turn on my heels and begin to leave
the Smith’s Hall.
“Make haste, I would hate to see what happens when an Orc loses his patience.”

"Fine one you got there, Chief."
"The finest," Aricyn replied. "Just like you, old man."
The old smith laughed and went back to work.

His usual smile had disappeared from his face.
"Right," he said.
The group hurried to the stables, reclaiming their rented horses and renting

A look of understanding dawns on Loranna's face after a moment; she touches Tris's
shoulder briefly, before they get onto their horses.
As the party leaves Westcastle, those near Loranna may hear her mutter, over
the pounding of the horses' hooves:
"At least THIS time I didn't cause the damn city to go up in smoke before
we ran off ..."

The party is making a hasty exit from Menevia providence, heading to Anticlere
providence, Crosswych Wood, which is about three days travel due west.
Anyone who wishes to be along with the main party is welcome to simply say you
came with us for the ride - if you were doing other stuff before, just say you
caught us in Westcastle as we were beating feet and we pulled you along
Small info blurb: Anticlere is a predominatly Mara-worshipping providence, and
while Mara's clerics are very kindly and wise, they also are rather more given
to wearing clothes than the Dibellian priests we've been accustomed to lately.
Be aware the atmospere will be a trifle different, especially in the temples
And now, back to the show.

Caer Suvio, Cyrodiil
Maranda relaxed in the warm mineral baths that made Caer Suvio famous. Her trip
to the Imperial City was but a short one, it seems her house in Narsis had been
sold… for quite a profit too, considering the recent troubles… she was once
again quite rich… but still not rich enough for the Mages Guild fee for
transport to Daggarfall. Maranda sighed deeply… She would have to get a
carriage there… she picked up a washcloth, and looked washed her body, it was
strange, her skin was as white as the snow, without a mark on it, even after
all this time, all the battles, not a scar left. Another girl walked into the
public baths, as Maranda stopped admiring her skin to think about the road
ahead. What would she say to her sister after she had gone so suddenly after
all that time? She slowly pulled herself from the steamy waters, and wrapping a
towel around her, wandered back to the dressing rooms…

"Is their something unusual about that Khajit? I've noticed that his
posture and body language, while almost flawless, doesn't quite match that of a
regular member of the moon-folk. I thought to ask him the question, but he
seems rather shy and I didn't want to bother him, and you seemed rather close.
And what, may I ask, is your connection to Ald Raathim? I have heard of a
swelling community on the mainland, but never heard all the details. I heard it
was run by House Dres."

Cyrcius followed the group as it left the inn, and rejoined it
as they walked through the streets. He heard their task and decided it
was as good as any before he left to meet Starkad. When Wind rushed off
to follow the men, Cyrcius almost followed, but decided against it. He
joined the rest of the group in their ride to Crosswych and was enthralled by
their discussion of dueling. When they had finished, Cyrcius rode up to
Loranna/Grier and asked "Is their something unusual about that

Loranna smiles at Cyrcius. "Always attentive and perceptive, dear Cyrcius;
you leave me feeling half-blind to the world. Slyvos is a good person, though
as you have already noted he is also a private one, and grateful I'm sure for
your discresion."
"As for my connection to Ald Raathim ..." Loranna says, pausing for
just a moment to collect her thoughts into a simple form. "I am the widow
of the noble Knight of House Dres who lived in the castle at Ald Raathim. He
passed away during the recent conflict at Red Mountain, and I inherited his
estate."

Reichi and Tohe rode with the rest of the group. Reichi however,
was having trouble not viewing his horse as food. Being both a Werewolf and
a Dunmer, it looked very, very tasty. He, however, managed to keep from eating
the poor equine. Afterall, if he did, he'd probablly had to pay for it.
Wouldn't have been worth it, plus, he would have had to ride with someone, or
walk. Normally, he could have just ran in his Werewolf form in such a
situation, but the new people with the group made that extremely risky.
Afterall, he would have to silence anyone who intended on revealling his secret
to the general populace. Reichi didn't want to have to do that, but if push
came to shove, he'd end up making someone short a tongue, or if they made it
neccesary, their whole damn head.

Didryn had slowly made his way to Westcastle, after learning
that the party was not at the witches' cave. When he arrived, he found himself
at the stable and was handed the reigns to a horse as the party passed by. He
couldn't tell who had handed him the reigns, but he climbed atop the horse and
steadily caught up to the party, still suffering painful thoughts of his
family. Those who notice him may see signs of stress or pain on his light grey
skin.

"Avrian, I see the Thieves Guild in a different way, but I
will be staying with this merry band for a while. I have to deliver the verdict
of the Morrowind Guild to Master Thief Starkaad, then I'll be free for quite a
while. On a more interesting note, I had an amusing thought. If this party had
to become a traveling variety show, what would each of us perform. I would
dearly love to hear some of my fellow adventurer's answers."

Dust stirred on the well used road that connected Menevia to
Anitclere. The horses made a steady progress towards the town of Crosswych.
Time passed quickly, like the small talk amongst the companions.
Debent rode up next to Tris and leaned over in his saddle to talk to the young
Breton as privately as possible.
"How long have you known these others you're with," he said nervously
looking back, particularlly those that arrived on the road. Whenever one had
arrived he seemed to jump in his saddle and wrap his hand around his blade's
hilt. "I don't like the look of them, are you sure none of them are
thieves?"

"We'll pass by quickly enough."
True to Debent's words the crossroads was quite the spot. It was rather shady.
A large oak provided the most relief from the sun. It also provided the
loacal's name. The tattered remnants of hundreds of ropes clung to the wide
spread thick branches above the trail. Fortunately for the travelers only a
handful seemed to be occupied at the moment, each corpse wore a sign around its
neck stating the crimes committed. Murderers for the most part it seemed.
Parked near the wide trunk, just off the road, there was a wagon loaded with
shovels and simple, long wooden boxes. Nearby a man dressed in chain mail and a
pot helm directed to others, dressed in peasant garb and wielding poleaxes, to
evict one of the Green Gallows' residents. They paid the passerbys no head as
they went about their work.
As Debent came close he tried to study the faces. At least the ones that
remained. This continued until he suddenly spat out a curse upon spotting an
orc hanging by the ankle.

Tris had never actually seen a hanged man. In Daggerfall, they took criminals

Loranna stares at the grim spectacle through narrowed eyes, her
mouth set in a tight line; to kill a person by hanging, she had once heard, was
supposed to be quick, but to just leave the body out to rot like this, even as
an example to others ...
It was ugly, and not in the superficial way either. She found herself smelling
blood spilled on snow-covered streets, back in Snowhawk, and she had to hold
her gorge down.
Hearing Tris vomit shakes Loranna out of her reverie ...
