Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: High Rock Hijinks
Posted by: Loranna Apr 14 2005, 09:33 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized
individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and
discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player
whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using
this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.
For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look
http://sekkairc.freewebpage.org/.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna:
Loranna is outside the wizard's tower that sits on the lake, having been
directed there by the witches coven to collect the rare weed for curing Illidan
of vampirism. She and her friends have just fought guards and slaves, an Breton
overseer with legendary, spell-warping armor, and eight gargoyles which
resisted magical attack.

Tris is with Loranna's party outside the wizard's tower, looking
for the mysterious plant that is used in the vampire cure.
Allerleirauh is with Sen-Yedda in Solunastra, having had a very interesting
talk with... Arynel? About the egg-layered universe.

Summary-
Dante, is with the witches in the mine.
Illidan, Probably dead. (What a great twist that would be, eh? )
Posted by: Teleran Apr 14 2005, 09:38 AM
Heehee, big rocks crush living rocks, bunches of fun! Oh yeah,
due to a nice enchant on an enemy’s armor Teleran lost his chitin or, more
accurately, it was kinda broken beyond repair (his further tearing it didn’t
help). Other than that he just got a nice boost to health, fatigue,
intelligence and willpower. So for now he’s feeling well, apart from phantom
limb pain which he is ignoring; stupid winged twilights...

(Ald Raathim:)
Aricyn walked back up the long hill to the castle...
...It wasn't hard to spot him, upon reaching the castle. The stranger sat like
a deep green mountain by the roadside. An axe the size of two axes rose from
the grass beside him.
Aricyn saw the Orc's dark eyes turn to him as he approached, although his head
did not.
"Sir, this..." one of the guards, began, but Aricyn cut him off by
speaking to the Orc.
"Greetings, stranger. I am Aricyn, called Chief here. What is your
business?"
My bones crack, and snap as I rise from my seated position. Damn, how long have
I been waiting? It doesn’t matter, I would’ve waited years for this.
I look over the mighty, Aricyn, so-called God slayer.
The disappointment is clear on my face.
“Aricyn, at last.” I reply looking the Nord over. “I thought... you would be...
taller.”
I raise my cherry to my lips and inhale a puff before I continue.
“I have heard a lot about you Nord. There’s no need for introductions or talk,
I’m going to cut right to the point.”
I see no fear in this Nord’s eyes... good.
“I live for the fight, the hunt, the bloody glory of it all. And from what I’ve
heard, I’m sure you do too. I’m sure we both crave the same thing. Dying at the
hands of someone skilled, honor, respect, thrill of the kill, blah, blah, blah,
that kind of stuff.” One more puff escapes me that dances and floats in the
cool, afternoon like a well paid wench, with a great figure.
“You do see where I’m going with this don’t you?” I ask, extinguishing my cherry
and lifting my axe.

Aricyn smiled. Things had been downright peaceful lately.
"I do indeed, although you're a bit mistaken about me. I intend to grow
old, grey, and lie around in the arms of a buxom woman regaling young warriors
with endless tales of fools looking for glorious death that found it on my
sword."
Aricyn had not yet drawn the greatsword that hung across his back, but his
stance had shifted slightly.
The old wolf yawned and wandered over to a nearby tree, flopping down in the
shade to watch the show.
"Just so I can tell those boys, what did your father name you?"

Arrogant bastard, he actually thinks he will win. Doesn’t bother me any, it
will make his defeat all the greater.
“Many have spoken like you to me, boy, and all are roaming Oblivion
headless.”
“Orc’s pride runs through my veins. My heart beats with berserker blood... I’m
going to enjoy this.”
I toss my axe at the Nord, missing wide on purpose. The axe swings in an arch,
quickly decapitating the two guards behind Aricyn, before softly returning to
my hands, like a faithful pet.
“Shall we begin?”

The wind blows on my face again, reminding me of how damn good a day it is
today.
Luceil is lifted from my shoulder, the metal glares, and the shadow of it
eclipse the Nord. My body begins to throb and beg for damage to be done, and
given. This is my favorite part...
I use my lifting momentum to swing Luceil vertically, aiming for the Nord’s
right shoulder. Fool still hasn’t drawn his weapon.

Aricyn felt the roaring of the axe as it swept through the air where his
shoulder had been. A sidestep to avoid the heavy blow, and his hand found the
familiar hilt of his sword.
Aricyn always felt more comfortable starting a fight with his sword undrawn. It
avoided the usual first, motionless exchange where each man sized up his
opponent's stance and defense. Besides, it didn't really make a difference.
The long blade cleared its scabbard and instantly frosted over in the warm
evening air. He considered his targets. He favored the long haft of the Orc's
axe. Without it, it the weapon was a hunk of useless metal. But... this was an
Orc. Aricyn didn't want to be here all day, and an Orc wouldn't stop until
there was blood, and plenty of it.
So, the right calf it was, then. It was a big enough target. This man had legs
like treetrunks.
Mid-swing, the greatsword swapped from Aricyn's right hand to his left, and
dipped low. The grass froze before it.

I try my hardest to conceal a smirk... I fail.
Bet he thinks I meant to hit him with that first swing, bet he thinks I didn’t
know he would move. Ha, all this I saw the moment he wouldn’t draw his sword. I
was once told to be a great warrior you must see the end of the battle before
it has even began... I have.
Luciel moves paper light in my hands, dipping downward, vertically, parrying
the Nord’s mighty blow inches away from my right calf. The coolness of the
blade, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand.
The sound, I’m guessing can be heard in High Rock.
The collision is great, greater then I expected. Luciel whines, and shakes,
begging to be let go, but my hands hold firm.
“You’re fast, kid, I’ll give you that, but you lack power. I’ve taken harder
hits from wenches.” Luciel flips in an arch, almost as if she’s moving on her
own, straight to the kneeling Nord’s head.
“LET ME SHOW YOU HOW IT’S DONE!”

[Akavir, Unknown Location]
Tarek rose from his long slumber and slithered out onto the high terrace of his
soaring tower, surveying the land. It was dawn, and the wind had picked up so
that it could be heard over the thrum of distant voices, who were echoing
through the smoothly crafted floors and walls of the structure by way of the
hallways and stairwells below.
Jarek looked out to the west, towards the vast sea. He blinked his eye, which
opened vertically, his golden brow furrowed in thought.
Today. I will leave today.
He had decided to vanish from Tseasci forever. Temnozer would not notice his
departure for at least a week, as the serpent-man was off in the high mountains
searching for the last of the primate vermin to live in the forested peaks.
Tarek was yearning to leave this place, and leave quickly. His 'disgrace' had
upset Temnozer, who had sought to imprison him and alomost succeeded.
Jarek turned and looked at his surroundings. He could leave now and not be
seen. Something was drawing him to far away places. The orb. He needed the orb.
It was the only thing he valued. THe filthy human scum had taken it from him
two years earlier. Lochnarus, the name of the wretched mammal.
You're dead, mammal
Tarek knew lochnarus had stolen the orb for someone in Tamriel. He sought to go
there two years before, but was injured so badly by lochnarus that he could not
follow the ship lochnarus had quicly set sail from Akavir inside of. He could
be anywhere now.
Tarek sighed and glared at the dawn.
Today, my revenge begins.

someone to get them healed, whether it be a common passerby or Loranna.

Cyrcius, when realizing the overseer's armor's power, hung back,
fighting the incoming guards and slaves. He stunned several slaves, and put a
dagger through the throat of a guard. His glass weapon being woefully weak
against stone gargoyles, he hung at the back, keeping his eyes open for
reinforcements. When the party started taking the armor off the overseer,
Cyrcius came over to help. While they were taking it, he turned to Loranna and
said "Milady, when all this is done, is there any chance some of you
powerful magic users could help me track down the captain that stole my
equipment. I would greatly appreciate. And of course this takes precedent, as
curing a friend is far more important."

OOC: Summary
Cyrcius is at the Tower, helping take the ebony armor.
Loranna gathers up dust and rock from the now smashed gargoyles, intending to
study it later for possible alchemical use. Seeing Didryn trying to help the
former slaves, beckons him and his charges over. "Here dear; I'll fix them
up ..."
Pity I don't also have a way to fix Teleran's armor handy, Loranna
thinks to herself. I think I'll add armor upkeep to the list of useful
skills to pick up.
Listening to Cyrcius, Loranna nods. "We will see what we can do to help
you, dear," she tells him. "If we can't find your old gear, we'll see
about helping you get some new stuff. Speaking of which ..."
The slaves they just freed had naught but the clothes on their backs right now;
some of the guards' equipment was salvagable, and the party had funds enough to
give the slaves food and lodging back at Westcastle - if the slaves could be
convinced to flee, and the wizard kept from using magic to exact revenge on
those who did flee.
Loranna beckons for Tris. "Tris dear, your opinion please," she asks.
"Should we try to wake the slaves and convince them to flee now, or hit
the wizard first so he can't coerce them anymore and then help them reach the
city? I feel quesy about leaving them out here in the open unconscious, but this
fether's got so many tricks and I don't want to see them flee only to keel over
from a curse or worse."

"I'm not sure what's going on with them," Tris said.
He was starting to feel disoriented; his enhanced abilities were proving
distracting, and he wasn't sure how to stop seeing, now that he had started.
He turned his new vision on the unconscious slaves. Reaching to touch them, one
by one, with his mind, to learn where they could be found.
"It's domination," he said. "Let me just get rid of that."
He had to search for the right string of power. The library of the sun - was
that what Vivec was talking about? But knowing the string of power it was easy
enough to set them free.
He was starting to sweat. Not because it was hard, but because it was too easy.
"They're free," he said. "But I don't see anything that would
stop the wizard from gathering them right up again, like a handful of
flowers."

Tris nudged the fallen warrior with his boot.
"Half elf, do you think? Or just a very old line of Breton? I guess I'd
better heal him, don't want him to die of intracranial bleeding. It's not that
I'm feeling altruistic, I'm just tired of politely acting my part in someone
else's play. If he wants to die heroically, he can find another hero to do him

Tris cast a sleep spell on the man, then a healing spell.
"If all of yours look like they're going to live, let's do this

we know that. So how do we want to get in? I see a door way up there on the

Loranna hides a worried grimace; Tris was sounding a little ... upset; then
again, it had been a bad day, and she herself was feeling more than a little
eager to administer a pounding to someone.
That, she realizes, is probably why she feels worried; not so much for Tris as
for Tris and herself.
Cyrcius's words draw Loranna's attention to the front gate even as Tris reminds
her that that door is a Bad Idea, and the Redguard Tralen makes her pause.
"It was our pleasure to help you," she says to the former slave.
" ... However, if you could help us find a way into the tower, so we can
make sure your old master can't harm you or the others again, we would

She points upward.

Tris looked closer at the slave, the only one who hadn't either attacked them
or run away.
"You're a Redguard," he said. "How did you end up a slave in

"That's okay," Tris said, resting a hand on the man's shoulder.
"We should get this fellow some decent clothes, Loranna. Hold up a second,
if we can get this weed before we bother the wizard, I'll feel a lot better. We
don't want to go and get killed and disappoint Illidan just because we feel

"Right," Loranna says, fishing through her pack and pulling out a

She hands Tralen the simple robe.

Hearing Tris's comment, Cyrcius began to search the guard's
bodies, looking for some proper clothing that wasn't bloodstained. Finding it
on the guard he had put a throwing dagger into, he began to strip the man of
his armor, then his shirt. He brought it over to the Redguard and waited while
Tris questioned him.

Reichi scratched his head, his head, and face obscured by the boiled netch

should just throw a spell at it, right?" he suggested. The black resin

some more ..."
After a while, the party had collected a generous supply of the special plants
Tralen had pointed out for them, and Loranna was anxious to see what sort of

to be done first.
Spreading the weed samples among various party members to lessen the chances of

"You took the words out of my mouth, my lovely," Tris said.
The enchantments on his clothing, plus his native Breton resistence, had

"Allow me to help," Reichi replied as the paralyzation on him faded.
He threw his dagger, the blue bladed sense enhancing weapon whistling through
the air. The Dremora, too pre-occupied with getting his axe out of Tralen's
grasp, didn't see it until it buried itself in his right eye. With a strangled
curse, the Dremora let go of the axe and tried to wrench the blade from his
eyesocket, from which a red ichor, which a lava-like appearance from poured
forth.
Posted by: Loranna Apr 15 2005, 01:13 AM
The Dremora that Cyrcius has been stabbing turns to raise his
axe and bring it down in a viscous blow, meant to split the nimble Bosmer in
twain.
Tris engages the second Dremora that's next to the one Cyrcius is fighting;
Tris and his opponent duel back and forth, though the Breton's quickness gives
him the advantage.
The Dremora wielding the axe Tralen attampts to grab pauses for a moment,
eyeing the Redguard with an appraising look; it was quite impressive how this
weak mortal struggled vainly yet valiantly, seeking to emulate the more skilled
members of its kind. With a yank, it frees its axe, raising it high ... just in
time to take Reichi's dagger in the eye. It bellows and lashes out with its axe
as it staggers back ...
Loranna pulls out her sword, and puts herself between Tralen and the Dremora,
blocking its wild swing; the axe of the fourth Dremora skids off her ice armor,
rending her robe.
"Tralen, use your dagger on them, not your fists!" she shouts.
"I can fortify you ... ugh!" Another blow makes her snarl, as she
tries to block two Dremora from hitting the unprotected people in the party.

Cyrcius continued his attack on the one who's neck he had

Another blow makes her snarl, as she tries to block two Dremora
from hitting the unprotected people in the party.
Reichi dashed over to where Loranna was, in the way of the other Dremora Lord
she was helping to block. Reichi drew back his blade, and swung diagonally, the
block stayed true to its' course, sliding neatly between the ridges on the
Dremora's daedric greaves. The Dremora roared as Reichi drew back his blade,
coated with the ichor. The Dremora was bleeding, well, as well as a
supernatural creature without true blood could bleed. That, and he wasn't going
to be able to use that leg very well now.
The enraged Dremora Lord swung his blade horizontally, trying to bisect Reichi.
The Dunmer ducked beneath the heavy blade, and swept his foot under the
Dremora's own.
The daedroth fell backwards with a clatter, dropping his axe.

Cyrcius finally landed enough blows at the Dremora's face, and
finally it collapsed into dust, leaving it's axe behind. Cyrcius rushed to help
Tralen, picking up the axe the Dremora had left behind and throwing it at the
thing's unprotected back.

As quickly as the fight had begun, the combat ended; the
wizard's trap had been set up with the assumption that only one or two people
would have made it this far into his tower, and even if they resisted the
paralysis they would thus be easy prey to the Dremora ambush. The party,
despite their earlier battles, were fresher than expected ...
Tris runs his Dremora through, while Loranna helps finish off the ones Reichi and
Tralen were fighting. With Sephirus's foe already down, the forces of Oblivion
revert to withered, shrunken husks as do all fallen Dremora.
Loranna pauses long enough to heal the party of their wounds and to cut the
hearts of the Dremora out for later potionmaking; she looks over her
companions, sighing " ... Hopefully that will be the worst of the traps,
having been set by his own bedroom and all."
Her tone, however, did not sound terribly convinced.

area, where at least three desks resided, one of which had a bright blue smoke
coming from it.
On the balcony were three figures, one was an Altmer in a commoners robe, who

Having anticipated her companions going pell-mell, Loranna cast Fortify Speed

was a plainly-clad Altmer and a posh-looking Breton; Loranna guessed the Breton
to be an apprentice based on his looks, for who sleeps in a sty and dresses

Her eye on the statues, Loranna fires off Silence spells at the Breton and the

Loranna's tearstreaks down one side of her face. She yells in surprise.
Loranna gets to her knees, feeling the room shake as the mighty stone golems
begin moving around - with a speed and grace that sent a shiver down her spine.
The Redguard sees Loranna moving and snarls "You're healing, so take

The girl casts a Dispel on Loranna, but Loranna's armor absorbs the spell; the
Redguard screams again in frustration and swings at Loranna's head, but Loranna
draws her sword and slashes the girl's hand in a somewhat lucky blow, causing
her knees to buckle and her grip on the mace to fail.
"Sorry dear," Loranna says, about to cast an Absorb Fatigue spell to
put the girl down, when one of the stone golems leaps between the two of them,
lashing out at Loranna. It takes all of Loranna's effort to avoid getting
pummeled by the huge fist, and the shockball it throws at her is too fast for
her to dodge.
"Damnit ..." Loranna says as the Redguard scampers back; there were
too many free-roaming enemy spellcasters now ...
Quickly, Loranna casts healing magics on Cyrcius, dodging the golem's next
blast. "Everyone! We need a new plan of attack!" she yells.

"What are you doing, girl?" he yelled. "You want to be a slave
forever? The others are all free, see, your old friend is with us. Live free
and happy or side with the wizard and die, up to you!"

QUOTE(Teleran @ Apr 15 2005, 11:52 AM)
After using his spear’s enchantment to give himself a quick
boost Teleran sprung at one of the golems, leaving his false arm behind. A
shockball almost took his head off as one of his daggers leapt to intercept.
The silver spun to the ground, no longer useful as a dagger. He looked down at
the golem realized that whether the dagger bit or not, this was going to hurt.
He plummeted towards the golem, bracing for impact.
Feeling Teleran on it's back, the golem began to thrash around wildly, running
into walls and such.
QUOTE(Lord Sephirus @ Apr 15 2005, 11:53 AM)
Cyrcius threw one last dagger at the Breton, then ducked and
grabbed the mace the girl had dropped, wondering how it had got so near to
him. He dodged a shockball in doing so, and began to slam the golem with
the mace, clumsily, but with all his strength.
The golem stumbled back, a small chip of rock falling from it's face. It let
out a mighty roar before charging forward again.
QUOTE(Aki @ Apr 15 2005, 11:55 AM)
Reichi tossed his shortsword at the spell, the spell struck the
blade, and a sheet of ice formed over it, and it continued to fall to the
ground. Reichi turned on the breton, he swung again at him.
The Breton fell backwards, narrowly avoiding Reichi's strike. On his way down,
he cast an absorb spell at Reichi, hoping to weaken him somewhat.

*Confused and full of rage because of his traitorous old friend
Trelan looks for the girl*Trelan sees the girl and wonders why she is attacking

The axe hits the golem, dust and small rocks falling from the small gash in
it's back. It turned swing a wild fist at Tleran.
QUOTE(Loranna @ Apr 15 2005, 12:06 PM)
"Everyone, focus your attacks on one golem!" Loranna
yells, activating her bracelet of levitation and swooping out of the reach of
the golem swinging at her. "They'll go down faster!"
Teleran and Cyrcius were attacking physically; Loranna re-fortifys the
party's strength as she turns to face the golem Teleran has jumped
on.
The Redguard girl pauses, seeing Reichi block her spell with a thrown
weapon. "Damn you ..." she says, tears mixing with blood on her
cheeks. "Damn you ..."
She shakes her head; this fight was going nowhere. The Breton was down,
the Altmer was down, she couldn't keep up with all the intruders and the golems
were doing their thing anyway. This fight, even with the golems still up,
looked to be going against her master.
Still, she was compelled to try something, even if it seemed hopeless; looking
to make sure no one was about to chop her head off, she runs to the Breton,
pulling out a healing potion.
The Breton looks up, and reaches for the healing potion...
QUOTE(Allerleirauh @ Apr 15 2005, 12:09 PM)

Tentatively he placed the crown back on his head and felt power flowing through

barely caught himself before falling over, which at the moment would be very
difficult to get back up from.
His motions were jerky, far too much power behind every movement. He pushed
himself back up to stand and almost fell over backwards from pushing too hard.
He staggered forward into a wall as he overcompensated. The wall cracked under

He strolled over to the wizard and leaned down. "Hello there. I've never

not a very pleasant person. I'm wondering what we should do about that."
The Redguard woman gave a small, satisfied smile. "He is indeed an

he thought none could hear."
Loranna frowns a little, but follows Tris. "Hello there, serjo," she
says to the Altmer, semi-aware most Altmer would probably be annoyed to be
called by a Dunmer term. "We seem to have an interesting situation here ..."

Altmer were fragile and intervention wasn't necessary. The slaves didn't seem

The Cave
"Along for the adventure, that and i wanted to see home again," Tohe
replied, looking out of the cave, into the daylight. His long brown hair fell
over his face, partially obscuring it and the claw marks, scars, that were upon
it.
Norilar looked at the breton and thin at the entrance to the cave and replyed
"i have asked many what bringes them to venture out into the wild you have
ansered the best." "Normaly they say for money or fame.."
"but to go home what has drawn you away for it?"

Tohe looks down at the cave floor. "Parents died. I had to
find someone to live with, so i sought out Reichi in Morrowind, after attending
to my wounds. " Tohe replied. "He was a friend of my parents."

Norilar stared at the wall for a wile before saying " i too have lost have
lost ones that i have loved." "My brother caught Porphyric Hemophilia
and has run off to some hidden place that seems to evades me." he looked
at the breton. "so i have been seeking revenge on the ones that gave it to
him."

"Porphyric Hemophilia....thats Vamprism..." Tohe said,
more to himself than anything. "We're here looking for the cure to
Vampirism, for a friend, so, perhaps you should stick around a while, you might
be able to help your brother."

The group ransacked the tower, taking anything unique, anything
unusual. Loranna felt that the slaves should receive some compensation for
their imprisonment, and Tris was willing enough to share money with them. But
adventurers deserved their pay too. They had risked their lives to free people
too cowardly too risk their own to get free - that's what made them adventurers
and not slaves.
Tris approached Sharlian. "Are you going to be okay now? All healed, got
someplace to go?"

As Loranna and the others handle final details, Sharlian gives Tris a tight,
but friendly, smile; her hair had been combed a bit but still framed her face
with a mass of tight curls.
" ... I think I will be," she says, nodding. "As for someplace
to go ... hrn. It's been so long, I barely remember anything about my old
family, other than they're in Hammerfell - or were, last I knew. For all I know
they could have left."
She looks at the tower. "This place, ugly as it is, has been the only home
I have known for a long while; I'm thinking I'll stay here, at least for a
time."

"Are you sure?" Tris said. "Out here in the middle of nowhere?
There's food and drink in the city, a warm bed at an inn with someone else to
clean up after you. You're not running from the law, are you? What were you
doing in High Rock when you got captured, anyway?"

Sharlian's smile fades, turning into a slight frown.
" ... That," she says, her voice a bit stiff, "was not something
I was privy to, then."
Her tone lightens some. "I can get supplies easily enough," she
assures Tris. "And the nearest city is but an Intervention spell away. I
simply do not feel quite ready to leave this place, is all."
"And what of you and your companions?" she asks. "Where will you
go now that you have freed us and destroyed Louisie Nermarc and Landil?"

Tris wasn't certain what it meant not to be privy to what you were doing in an
entirely different country, but it didn't seem to be a subject Sharlian wanted
him to pry into.
"His name was Louisie? I killed the evil wizard Louisie? Damn, poor
bastard, I feel sorry for him now. His name is worse than mine."

Sharlian laughs, her voice strong and her smile as lovely as only a Redguard's
smile could be.
"Doubtless he endured much ribbing about it before he turned to taking
slaves," she says. "The last person to laugh at his name was never
heard from again."
Perhaps it was her laugh, but something in her features struck Tris as exotic.
The effect was quite pleasing, to be sure, and she came alive when she laughed
more than he had seen her do since he first met her.

"You're part Akaviri, aren't you?" Tris said, touching her soft curly
hair. "I have a friend who's Akaviri, but she's pale as porcelein, not
dark."

Akaviri blood in my family. You're the first to really notice in a while; then
again, Louisie cared more about his precious golems and gargoyles than about
how I looked, and Landil used to complain how we men all looked alike."
"You have not yet told me what your next plans are," she says,
staring into his eyes.

The corners of her lips curl upward.
