Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: High Rock Hijinks
Posted by: Loranna Apr 9 2005, 09:48 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized
individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP.
If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If
you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character
you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's
PM function. That's what it's there for.
For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look
http://sekkairc.freewebpage.org/.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Nalion is in Westcastle, currently outside of the constable's manor.
QUOTE(Teleran @ Apr 9 2005, 09:40 AM)
Teleran quickly made his way around the manor to the entrance
and found no guards there, no sign of them at all near the entrance in fact. He
saw Nalion ahead of him and beyond him two pale corpses.
“Is he still alive?” he queried He pulled more daggers from their sheaths and
sent them through the air to guard Nalion as he approached.
The Breton kneeled down besides the wounded guard and touched his neck to feel
the pulse.
"He's still alive, though badly wounded."
Nalion put both his hands over the guards chest and concentrated. Restoration
wasn't the school he was best trained in, but he hoped it would be enough to
heal him. Blue light radiated from his fingertips into the man and wounds and
cuts began to slowly close. After the man was stable enough, he infused a
healing potion.
"There, this should work." Nalion tried to help the guard up.
"I'll bring you to the manor."

leant on Nalion. "To the manor it is."
Manor, living room-
"Why are we here?" Asked one disgruntled servant, who had been
disturbed from his rest.
"Because...there's something bad going on. The guards out front are
suspected dead." Stated the chef, sadly.
"By vampires, no less." Commented a guard.
"Vampires, how do you know?" Asked another.
"I heard the snarls..." He began, "I could pin point that type
of cry anywhere. It belonged to a vampire, I tell you.."
The servant began to grow worried, "So...now what do we do?"

Loranna quietly adds a Resist Disease spell to the protections she cast on the
others, just in case the guard turned out to be right.
Note to self, consider carrying scrolls of Divine Intervention for the
non-combatants, she thinks to herself. Still, we should be all right;
Tris is fast and I've been shoring up everyone ...
"Now, we wait and prepare ourselves," Loranna tells the others.
"Our companions are outside, looking for the threat, and Tris and I are
here to protect you all. So long as we all stay together, we'll be all right."

They are the creatures of the night and they have the advantage."
He looked at Tris and Loranna.
"You got the information? Good idea, Loranna."
He took out his belt pouch and placed several healing potions on the table.
"Here. I won't probably need them immediately. You may need them
more." Turning to Loranna, he said "It's a mine shaft? Then we should
head there as soon as possible."

Manor, living room-
There was a loud thud heard on the roof. The chef let out a loud gasp, "Oh
my...they'll be in shortly, what will we do?!"
"Calm down, buddy!" Shouted a guard, grabbing the man and attempting
to calm him down.
"We need to raise the town alarm." Said the constable, "If we
can do that, there'll be guards all over this place, the vampires wouldn't
stand a chance."
"But...who would go?"

dealt with the vampires the first times. Do you have perchance one of them with

Nalion prepared an invisibility spell. "Right?"

She looks back to Nalion. "The Nine keep you from crashing or flying into

Nalion drank the potion and began to levitate one inch over the floor
immediately. He winked towards Loranna and whispered a spell. His form slowly
began to dissolve. Only a light breeze and ash and soot falling down from the
living room's chimney told that the mage had been there.
The distance to the town hall's bell tower was not far, considering the speed
of Nalions flight. The mage quickly found the bell and began to ring it.
"Awake, awake! Foes are coming! Awake! Rally at the constables manor!
Raise! Awake!"
Windows slowly brightened as candles were lit inside. Soon, people were
shouting, asking and lighting torches, spreading the call. Above all clamour,
the alarm bells kept ringing.

the alarm bells kept ringing.
The large mob charged through the streets towards the constable's manor. Once
the manor came into their view they could make out the faint shape of people on
the roof, and their glistening eyes shone out like stars. "Vampires!"
One shouted, leading the charge. "Slay them all!"
Hearing the mob, the vampires hastily fled down a path behind the house, the
mob following not too far behind.
The manor, living room-
There was a knock on the door before it opened, Dante and two town guards
entered the large room. Dante let out a sigh of relief, "Glad to see
everyone's ok, then."

Shortly after Dante jumped in, Nalion entered, too. He was busily brushing off
ash remains from his robe. A small stain of soot decorated his cheek.
"Invisibility spells won't protect you from dirt." he chuckled.
"Another discovery proven by empirical study."
He stopped brushing off his robe and looked up. "Now, I really don't want
to sound hasty, but I think we have an appointment which involves witches and a
mine." He smiled and motioned the party to move on.
A minute later, the companions were on their way hurrying towards the mine.

Path to Ald Raathim...
The wind caresses my face like a gentle, and longing lover. It plays with my
braided hair like puppets on a string. I love days like this, kinda puts me at
ease, if a person like me can ever, truly, be at ease.
I tighten the grip on my axe that’s slung over my shoulder. The handle alone
would break the wrists of a weaker man, but I swing it with ease. Maybe that’s
why I do what I do, because I’m not that weaker man. In my profession you have
to be tough. You see things, no normal person should see, and you do things, no
normal person should do.
The stuff I’ve seen, I think as a small chuckle escapes me, is enough
to kill a man alone.
Damn, I need a smoke.
I light up a cherry and breath in that sweet, intoxicating aroma, before I let
it escape my mouth, in the form of crimson red, smoke. I then look to the sun,
that big, beautiful, ball of light, and take another puff. God, I love days
like this.
Regardless of the outcome of today, one thing is certain, I think to
myself while looking up at the transparent, blue-hued, Nirn sky. Today’s a
good day to die.
One more puff escapes me.
I'll be in Ald Raathim soon.

Cyrcius followed the mage and Loranna to the constables office.
Having no visible weapons to deposit, he walked past the guards. He tried to
remain out of sight, as many law enforcement officials automatically assume
Bosmer are trying to rob you blind. When the cry whent out, a throwing dagger
slid out of each of his sleeves. Then the mage and another man went to
investigate, Cyrcius began to join them, but realized whatever was there, would
probably need more than a few throwing daggers to be slain. He turned to the
rest of the party "does anyone have a shortsword or dirk i could borrow.
Ever since my encounter with your half-Dunmer friend all I have are these
knives." He flashed two of his throwing daggers.

Near the mine
Frostien struggled to move his feet. For the past few days he had been
wandering around, lost. He had battled many creatures in his aimless searching,
and it showed. His clothes were in tatters, his armour filthy, and his body
exhausted. He was still as lost as ever, but now he could go no further. His
flabby Breton body fell to the ground, his head hitting a jagged rock. Pain
flashed through him, and for a brief moment he thought he would die. Just
before he passed out, he drank his last healing potion. It would help heal his
many cuts and bruises, and it would stop his head bleeding, but without a
proper healer, the gash on his forehead would become infected.

"They have fire," Tris said. "Fire is wonderful stuff against
vampires."
He turned to Cyrcius. "Just one moment."
Tris didn't carry a lot of extra equipment. But Ald Raathim and its arsenal of
weapons, left over from the days of fighting whole armies of Azurites, were
only a step away. He concealed himself in the shadows of an alley, entered the
Void, and returned a few moments later.
"This is what we call the Azurite Special," he said. "Glass
jinkblade, swortsword. Very nice weapon, just don't let it get too worn."

While in the Constable's manor, Roggar's drunken side effects
left, and the expression on his face became dark and serious. All of a sudden,
he was robed in a Green and Silver robe, that was common among the Battlemage's
of his family. At his side, there was a black Longsword belted to his hip, and
in his hand, was a staff of Hawthorn, which had many types of runes on it.
Roggar now had a silver-ish aura about him. When they began running to the
mine, he simply cast a Levitation/flying spell that had been made by his
great-grandfather, and flew alongside the other members of the party.
Meanwhile, Tos'un ran along with them, quickly taking the second spot. He made
no sound at all, as his feet were padded and he had taught himself how to be
virtually invisible, without casting a spell, or using his Chameleon Ring. That
reminded him, yet again, he needed to get it recharged, and maybe get some
other things enchanted as well. This time, he had weapons in his hands. This
was almost the first time anyone had ever seen weapons in his hands. His
weapons were dual, curved tanto's, but these were unique. They were longer than
most, and had a reddish tint to them.

Ald Raathim...
I get into Ald Raathim around midday. You should see some of the looks the
locals are giving me. Bastards act like they’ve never seen an Orc before. I
know where I’m going and I get to it. There’s no point in wasting anytime.
I approach the castle guards.
Conceited bastards, act like they're too good to speak to me. “Can we help
you?” One of the conceited fah’ger’s says to me, with a look on his face like
I’m something a Guar spit up.
I calmly light up a cherry and take my time with it. Slowly puffing out smoke,
and standing infront of the guards like they're not even there. Hope the
bastards like a taste of their own medicine.
They don’t.
The bigger guard steps forward, fingering his sword. “Can we help...”
“I’m looking for Aricyn.” I say, cutting the guard off mid sentence.
The guards laugh... I don’t remember telling a joke.
“Aricyn doesn’t have the time for... your kind. But what we’re officially
supposed to say is, he’s busy. So... he’s busy. Come back later, or never.” The
guard laughs, throwing me that damn ‘greater then thou’ look again.
I keep my face as calm as the eye of a hurricane, and mark both guard’s faces.
I’m going to kill them, you can bet your damn, sweet hide, about that, but not
now. I don’t need trouble... yet. Not before I finish what I came to do.
“Fine, I can wait.” I say with the calmness of a priest. I throw my axe down in
the dirt, like a spear, before I sit down Indian style next to it, with my
cherry mist billowing out of my nose. I can tell by the look on the guard’s
faces its choking them. I close my eyes and relax knowing one thing for sure,
Aricyn will come. I know that for a fact. He’ll come... the bastard
better.

Arynel had left the tavern shortly after the Imperial. He
managed to sneak out without attracting the attention of the newcoming Bretons.
Arynel was now making his way down the streets of Daggerfall, on his way
towards the Guildhouse.

Looking at the glass blade with admiration, Cyrcius thanks Tris.
He follows the party and begins reviewing his encounters with vampires. Then he
began rummaging through his pockets and pulled out 3 flasks of oil and some
cantrip enchanted quick light matches. An evil grin spread across his face.

Norilar thought to him self that he would clear this cave or
what ever it was in the morning. But for now the high elf clad in a off color
light green armor sat down and began to make a bed of leaves and grass.
Loranna pauses as the group reaches the mine, seeing an armored Altmer bedding
down. "Hail," she says, looking at the high elf.

Loranna and the party came across the passed-out Frostien on
their way to the mine. Loranna stopped to check on the fallen man, and
used her magic to heal him and cure any infection he may have caught, though he
did not immediately waken.
" ... We can't just leave him out in the open; bandits or wild beasts will
get him," she says, hoisting the unconscious Breton onto her horse and
making him as comfortable as one can manage in the situation.
"Hopefully he'll come to soon ..."
Loranna pauses as the group reaches the mine, seeing an armored Altmer bedding
down. "Hail," she says, looking at the high elf.
"That's the fellow who ran off looking for a woman back in the other
village," Tris said, looking at Frostien. "I guess he didn't find
her."

Roggar halt's at the command from Loranna, and gathered the
words on his tongue for a very large 'Shocker' Spell, that his family created.
It hit anywhere from 20-50 points on target, and it made the target Weak to
Shock, and then Shock Damage 20-50 points. It lasted for around 2 minutes.
Tos'un slipped into the forest and moved around behind the Altmer, his Tanto's
ready to do some damage.

Loranna keeps a pleasant smile on her face; she suspected that anyone who
actually met the wise women would guess pretty quickly what they really

Nalion covers his nose with a sleeve, the stink of blood and flesh was overwhelming.
"Be careful around here. I don't think we are alone. Stay close to the

Teleran wrinkled his nose at the smells; rotting flesh was
certainly not the most appealing odor to encounter. He saw a few signs among

As the group continued on, the stench would grow weaker in some places, and

A moment after that, another cracking sound was heard. Though who this trap

sorted through the parchments, scanning their content, most of them seemed to
be accounts of supplies and notes when deliveries were due, others told of
money.
Though there was no time, he opened the desk and looked in, finding other
papers, looking more interesting to him. Against his normal habit, he quickly
tucked them away under his robe for later study.

the ingredients for it in far too long. We've almost given up on finding one of
them, actually." She said dolefully, before speaking again. "We sent
the constable's men out to find it once, actually. No luck...it seems it has
just vanished."
Loranna finds herself wondering what became of the constable's men ...
"We would be willing to seek out this ingredient my lady," she says,
"if you would let us."

"Well...the odd one has been known to grow just about anywhere in
Highrock...but those ones are very hard to find. Probably what makes them easy
to find is that they often grow near the large tree stumps, but they are still
surrounded by most weeds. Where we used to find them, however...it made them
quite easy to collect. There was a small lake to the east of here that they
would grow around. But as of late, a rather anti-social wizard has taken up
residency there. And well...he doesn't like people being there, or near 'his'
plants. So you can probably see why it's so difficult."
"As for your other question, the only other property we've discovered is
that when bitten into, they have a paralyzing affect. Doesn't last too long
however, roughly around 5 seconds."

"I see ..." Loranna says, thinking to herself. A wizard finding a
spot where rare plants with wonderous magical properties decides to stake out
the place for himself, and Oblivion take anyone who might have been frequenting
the place earlier. Likely the special weeds only bloomed so often, making the
spot by the lake a real find - one kept quiet until the wizard showed up.
Said wizard probably had no intention of giving up the plants peacefully; they
would either have to filch some or else knock him for a loop to get any. Still,
maybe peaceful methods could work ... maybe.
"Very well; we shall see about convincing this wizard to loosen his
stranglehold on the Von Weeds," Loranna says. "How much will you need
to make the cure?"

Loranna considered; it was important to ensure the witches were not killed
while the party was collecting the weed ...
After a brief discussion, it was decided to have the party split into two for
now, some people staying to guard the witches from the encroaching vampires and
the rest to head to the wizard's tower, to try and coax him to offer up some
samples of the weed. Fatigue potions were offered around to help keep people
fresh and alert during the night if need be, as were healing potions for
safety.
The two groups decided upon, the one heading to the tower bade their companions
farewell and head off ...

Cyrcius walked up to Loranna. Reaching inside his coat, he
withdrew a probe. "Milady Grier, in the future, remember that I have some
small skill in finding and disarming traps. I used to have a ring that might be
helpful here, but it is still with the rest of my equipment on that ship. So
what do you think the wizard will have in way of lackeys. It has been a long
time since I have had a good fight, if indeed it comes to that."

(OOC: Letter will arrive in a few days) Therogar smiled as he
wrote the last few lines of his letter to Loranna (previously the possessed
holder of Azura). Her father had asked him to write this letter supposedly
because of the inobscurable mental difficulties he had had in the past. Gram
had more in mind though, and Therogar knew him better than he supposed.
Therogar smiled as he thought of the fear that could be created between two
people who truly loved each other. Everything would work out alright in the
end, and the One had granted him peace of mind about the situation. Yes, they
would do alright undoubtly. Therogar scanned his letter one last time, his old
Nordic eyes squinting and slowly checked it over.
Dear Loranna,
No doubt you are wondering who this letter is from and why it was written, for
I'm afraid for some reasons we have not met. You perhaps remember my student
Girai Harkaanius, and I am pleased to say he was like a son to me. I also
regret to tell you he has passed away, but rest assured he is in a better place
than the two of us. The All-Maker gave him a perhaps quicker passing than his
attacker intended, and for that I am grateful. My time also grows short and I
must say I am excited to see what the One has in store for me on the other end
of death.
I am pleased to tell you as your father's healer that he has developed back his
senses nicely. You have the All-Maker to thank for that, for I am truly
helpless with such techniques. I'm sorry to say my power is waning and the
method by which the "I" healed dear Gram is now gone from this realm,
indeed shattered by a Daedric Prince with which I believe you have some
familiarity. I have taken the fact of that to mean it is time for Gram to speak
with you.
Your father has much to say, though perhaps not the speech to say it, for I
have observed you are very near to his heart yet to this day, and much sorrow
accompanies that position in his being. You are more dear to him than anything
in the world, and I think you should know that before you speak to him. You
also should know other things too.
Your father has become something of a hero in Southern Cyrodiil (he did some
travelling after rescuing Girai and I must say it was hard to track him)
because of his actions against the Azurites. He has truly grown brave in the
keeping of the Aedric servants of the One. His actions against the Khajiit
darkhearts and murderers in Azura's thrall will be sung for many years
undoubtedly, though I believe to a large degree he has fought for you and those
like you.
I'm afraid my dear that we will never meet on this great Nirn, but I do beg one
thing of you as I near eternal rest. This is my last gift to heal Gram and
perhaps even yourself. I implore you both to day visit the Island of Solstheim
and visit the Skaal there, where you will see Nords as they were meant to be.
If you will take our teachings to heart and near the well of life is your
choice, but I ask you to at least visit them and consider what their Shaman (I
believe his name is Korst Wind-Eye) has to say, for he is a good and faithful
man. He has endured many trials and I think you might come to like him, but
again it is in your will that your eventual path will be decided.
My time on Mundus grows short, but rest assured my best wishes go with you and
your father in the time to come. I hope the All-Maker graces you with as much
life as he has graced me, and that His mercy follows you greatly as it has
follows the world itself. A good day to you, and a full, beautiful time here
while you face the future bravely.
Yours,
Therogar

Tos'un was, to his great dismay, picked to stay behind and help
the Wise Women. He was quite unapproachable for a few hours, but was then ok.
Roggar, however, was NOT picked to stay behind. He nodded with approval when he
wasn't picked. He was ready to face this so-called, 'Wizard' that had taken
over the main place where the Von Weed grew. A true Wizard would allow everyone
to gather the Von Weed. With that thought, he started checking himself to make
sure he had all his supplies. When a Restore Fatigue Potion got to him, he
quickly drank it, and was immediatly refreshed.

Arynel sat in a chair next to the fireplace, watching the red and orange flames

The Breton reached into his cloak and pulled out a chrystaline form, round like
an egg, and clear. It captured the color of the flames within its body and
reflected it outwards causing a soft orange glow to fall on objects nearby. It

Against his original intent, Nalion decided to stay behind and
not accompany the group to the wizard's tower. There were other thought that
troubled him, but he pushed them away for a moment. He tooke his leave from the
remainders of the group staying at the mine and exited the place.
He needed room - and fresh air - to think about some things, so he carefully
retraced the path his companions and he himself had cleared to get out of the
stench of rotting corpses. He led his horse by the reins so that it would not
go astray.
After some time of walking, he eventually found a spot near a tree where he sat
down. He took out the parchments he had "acquired" from the witches'
desk and began to read. There were a few scrolls of various effects among them,
which he put away rather quickly. Some notes concerning summonings were more
interesting to him though, dealing with procedures of how to summon daedric
servants, their behaviours, weaknesses and strengths.
The mage finished reading and let his thoughts wander, back to Ald Raathim, Red
Mountain, Skyrim. He smiled.
"Amazing."

Realizing his colorful coat would only be a disadvantage in the
probable battle to come, Cyrcius exploited its special design that he had
specially ordered. He turned it inside out and suddenly, it was a mottled,
camouflaging color. He opened the secret slit and withdrew a hood, then brought
flap of cloth attached to the hood over his mouth. "I use this when I want
to be a little more stealthy."

fire. But I am surprised, little wanderer. Whatever I'm doing must be working.
It seems too much to hope for that you've determined that wandering and high
adventure need not take place in space alone."
"I speak of running, I know." Arynel said, half thinking aloud.
"Perhaps I will, perhaps I am, now, on the run. Perhaps there is no more
need to flee."
The Breton went silent for a moment, and then shook his head. "I fear the
roar of the fire is a greater halcyon than the prowess of my will, I am too
much at ease to think clearly."

"You only think clearly when you're in danger? Don't be troubled then; the
world will provide what you need."
She looked into the fire herself.
"When Old Uriel dies, there will be fire enough for everyone, and not the
kind that brightens a hearth. Even the bravest hero must rest and gather his
strength."
She smiled a private smile. Inwardly she was thinking of a mild seeming boy who
claimed not to seek adventure. Adventure was addictive, though.
"I want to hold an open house," she said. "It's time. We are

Still, one never could tell; perhaps the wizard simply found their hats

Squelching her line of thinking as foolish, Loranna waves to the two men.

Loranna mentally tallies. Wizard busy and really cranky from the sounds of
it. Yeah, the peaceful approach is looking pretty pointless now ...
"Quite the spotted owl, he sounds," Loranna says agreeably, fishing

some new fishing gear and a night at a good tavern - or so Loranna hopes,

In the vicinity of the witches' mine:
Nalion still sat with his back against a tree not too far from the witches'
mine. He was deep in thought. Now that he was back in High Rock, he had a feeling
that something drew him away from the task of finding a cure for Illidan.
Something was drawing him closer to a small village south of Shornhelm, towards
the Wrothgarian mountains.
He was a different man since he had left that night years ago with Lirielle in
his arms. It had been a difficult time, finding his own way in this world, away
from the protection of a simple village community, sheltered by innocence and
ignorance. This had radically changed said night. He had taken his life into
his own hands from that on, rather than letting others dominate it from
outside. He had taken responsibility, for himself and most important for
Lirielle.
It was now that he realized that this was a very important revelation to him.
In a way, Lirielle had taught him to think for himself and not let others do
his thinking. Sometimes, rules had to be broken when they didn't fit anymore.
Lirielle had been the first step towards what he was now.
The Breton mage looked upwards into the treetops above him.
The second step was following his own mind, as he had set out from Tel Uvirith
to follow a faint trail to Skyrim. A faint trail of what? Nalion didn't know.
What he knew though was that in Skyrim he had met and joined a group of
travellers whose adventures had fundamentally changed him.
The third step was freeing himself from his grief of Lirielle's passing. In a
forlorn place he had strangely re-lived the parts of his flight from High Rock
and of Lirielle's death. He had then finally understood that Lirielles death, tragic
as it was, could not have been prevented by him. The guilt he had burdened upon
himself because of this fell from him that day.
The fourth step was taking responsibility. Act, instead of react. Lead, instead
of follow. The realization that the adventures in the Vaults of Gemin were just
some sort of test for a task that was much greater than he had ever seen made
him smile.
The few days around Hogithum passed before his minds' eye. The tension of the
task at hand, the shock at seeing his closest friends hurt and wounded, the
highs and lows of their struggle towards Red Mountain. And then, there was this
breathtaking moment as they all rallied together, mantling the Eight and
righted what was wrong.
Nalion realized though, that the third step had yet to be completed. His own
story had to be put right. People were surely angry at him. Father would be
very disappointed. Mother, would she be sad? Cienne, his sister who he still
loved dearly, what had become of her? Joslin Tailas, Lirielle's father, how would
he react when the one who stole his daughter appeared on his doorstep?
Nalion would find out soon, that he was sure of.

rather large lake with clear, calm waters, looking serene and lovely. Jutting
forth from the east side of the lake, however, was the wizard's tower -
cold-looking, severe, rough and ill-tended, it cast a pall over the
peacefulness of the lake beyond its simple shadow. Small slits offered the only
view out of the tower and an imposing, gate-barred door sat at the tower's
base, an armored man and two large, stone statues in the shapes of horned men
with large, clenched fists and powerful arms standing guard.
Around the lake itself, armored men of different sorts could be seen, as well
as others - men and women with ragged clothes and silver bracers around their
arms, carrying various tools and satchels. The men and women would occasionally
wave something around, then stoop and dig, placing what they dug up in their
satchel. The armored men hollared now and then, evidentally displeased with the
way the others worked ...

Roggar decided to scout ahead. He cast a spell of Chameleon and
disappeared into the lake. He still resurfaced for air, but that was only when
he absolutely needed it. He climbed out of the water on the other side of the
lake, the side closest to the Tower. At this moment, he was hit with the most
outrageously powerful sense of magick. He sneaked forward and touched one of
the statue's. He stiffened as a small shiver ran down his spinal chord. This
was a very magickal beast, possibly from Oblivion. He had never seen it in the
tome's he had read, and had never heard of it. He cast one of his flying spells
and flew back to the group immediately to report his findings. He ran over to
Loranna. "There is a serious problem. Those two statue's, in front of the
portal? They are extremely magickal and dangerous. I'm betting that both of
them are from Oblivion."

Cyrcius went forward with Roggar. When Roggar went to
investigate the statue, Cyrcius, bereft of invisibilty or chameleon, snuck
forward to investigate the armored men by the lake. He saw the shimmer on their
weapons, and recognized them as enchanted. They wielded longswords and maces,
with a few carrying whips. Most wore studded armor, that Cyrcius recognized as
high quality equipment. A few wore steel however, and a huge Breton, unusually
tall for his race, seemed to be in charge. He wore an ebony cuirass, a steel
helmet, and studde leather for the rest except for his armored and spiked
gauntlets. He wielded a huge mace of a design unfamiliar to Cyrcius, that
practically radiated enchantment. Cyrcius watched all this from his hiding
place in the trees and began counting the guards by the lake.

Loranna assesses the ebony-clad figure, noting his ease of moevment in the

This is probably one of the wizard's more trusted servants, she decides.
She mentally prepares herself for trouble, waiting on the figure's reaction -

Several of the slaves stare at their wrists, not quite believing that they've

Loranna's drain speed spell was no match for the speed he had taken for himself

He wasted another moment dispelling the effect, wasted yet another restoring

Loranna has her sword partly out of her sheath when Tris's actions make her

That probably applies to my sword as well, Loranna thinks, her lips
curling into a snarl. Bloody fetcher ...
Loranna didn't have any other weapons on her, and her hand-to-hand skills were
not the best; she had improved enough that she could probably take out one
slave or maybe two with her bare hands after a long brawl, but not a mess of
them ...
I'm definitely going to need to practice my kicks more later, she tells

Quickly, she unbuckles her scabbard and holds her sword out, using the sheathed

punches to try and stun her attackers.

He was thinking hard, watching the fellow.
Trying too hard. Trying to see into a world where truth was spoken. It wasn't
hard, it was easy. You just had to hold your mouth right.
Ignoring his words to Loranna, he cast a spell at the armored figure. Just a
little one, a spell to poison him very mildly. And he watched. His vision
shifted, and dizzying strings swept by him, a flood of incomprehensible
proto-language.

they seemed to be gathering around something, heavily armed. Activating his
spear’s enchantment, he jumped towards them as a portion of the circling slave
charged inwards. He landed a bit short and started running the rest of the

and the iron dagger leapt to his hands. A cloud of silver daggers came up

Loranna feels her hackles rising, swatting at one of the three slaves who had
originally rushed her.
The slaves did not have the best of weapons, and her armor and parrying skills
were enough to turn aside most of their blows. Those few that got through
healed thanks to the potions she regularly ingested. The slaves did not pose
much of a threat ... as swingers of weapons. However, they were capable of
ganging up on her and pulling her down, and once she was down she could take
quite a bit of damage from repeated stabbings and hackings - especially since
people with actual swords were coming out. And she herself was holding back
from using her best attacks ...
It seemed at least that her potions were not affected by whatever was jinxing
their magic; she still had options, if she could keep from getting pulled to
the ground.
Her free hand fishes into her robe for a potion of strength, while she dodges
and parries the blows of the three gardeners trying to bear her down. She
ducks, pulls the potion out, and struggles to free her arm when a lucky grab
snares her. Pulling free, she gulps the potion down, dancing away from the
slaves.
The next one that gets close takes a sharp hook to the jaw, learned back in her
barmaid days; he goes down, out like a light. Loranna smiles, at least until
she sees the other slaves advancing on her.
"Bloody ..." she mutters, as they attack.

Tris's ebony dagger plunged into the dark figure, causing him to miss Teleran
as he swung. It's damage combined with that of Nehtayem was causing the
figure to loose health.
Teleran felt his chitin armor cracking as he continued moving to his right. His
boots cracked as he placed weight on it sending him tumbling. He turned on the
figure to see its blade flash past him, uncomfortably close. However he also
spied his left arm still floating beyond the fiend. He sent it slashing towards
the back of the man in ebony’s neck.

"It's his armor!" Tris shouted to the others,
still floating overhead. "It's powerful magic, it tampers with any spells
you cast at him."
His own weapons all cast spells when they struck, except for the ebony dagger
Ciel had given him long ago. He dipped down, thrusting at the joints of the
armored figure.
"Spells cast at him?" Loranna repeats ...

... a slow grin coming across her face as she looks at the guards.
"I'll handle the guards; Tel, help Tris take the blackguard down!"
Loranna says, turning to give the guards a truly Nordic welcome. "Sorry
dears ..."
She had already pumped up her strength with a potion, and a fortify speed spell
gave her the quickness to dash in and out more easily; Loranna takes on the
remaining guards and gardeners, her sheathed blade swishing through the air.

He dropped his sword, as the guards fell to Loranna's reaping.

The man's armor was quickly removed and stashed.
"You, sir, look like trouble... but you're going to have to find your own

Loranna ducks under one swooping gargoyle, slashing upward as it dives over

hopefully said gargoyle would be feeling that poke. She rises in time to see a

As quickly as she can, she gets to her feet, her natural grace coming in good

Loranna's first strike connects with the gargoyle's wing, taking a hefty chunk
out of it. And sending it barrel rolling into the ground not too far off. A
while after it limped away, short of an arm, leg, and a wing.
Her second strike also connected, but not as well. It left a large scratch
across the gargoyle's leg, and also resulted in a stone like powdery substance
to flutter down towards her.

QUOTE(Arrogant_Hero @ Apr 9 2005, 12:27 PM)
“Aricyn doesn’t have the time for... your kind. But what we’re officially supposed
to say is, he’s busy. So... he’s busy. Come back later, or never.” The guard
laughs, throwing me that damn ‘greater then thou’ look again.
He’ll come... the bastard better.
(Ald Raathim:)
Aricyn walked back up the long hill to the castle. At his side were young Helgi
Hagslayer, and, of course, the grey old wolf.
Helgi had won great renown for himself in the battle at Red Mountain, after
saving the army's golden-helmed standard. The northern warriors now considered
him a hero, and looked to him as a leader, albeit a young one. He walked with
Aricyn now, under the cool setting sun, discussing his new responsibilies.
As they crossed the little bridge and bubbling stream at the foot of the
castle's hill, the old wolf's nose twitched and he let out a hoarse bark.
"What's wrong?" Helgi asked, startled by the great animal's sudden
movement.
"He smells Orc," Aricyn answered. "Don't you?"
"No Chief, I do not, yet I do smell... something burning."
"Orc," Aricyn repeated, looking toward the castle. "Go back to
the town. We'll talk later."
Helgi nodded and jogged off back down the road.
It wasn't hard to spot him, upon reaching the castle. The stranger sat like a
deep green mountain by the roadside. An axe the size of two axes rose from the
grass beside him.
Aricyn saw the Orc's dark eyes turn to him as he approached, although his head
did not.
"Sir, this..." one of the guards, began, but Aricyn cut him off by
speaking to the Orc.
"Greetings, stranger. I am Aricyn, called Chief here. What is your
business?"
