The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Blue Dawn

Posted by: Loranna Feb 18 2005, 09:55 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.

Thank you, and have fun!

When last we left our intrepid adventurers in the legendary Vaults of Gemin, they were facing a lich king and a horrible spell of corruption was bearing down upon them...

And so, we return you to our exciting program!

Unstopped by wind or spell, the black cloud rushed over everyone, dead and otherwise. The corpses that Teleran manipulated grew new, grisley flesh, and stopped themselves from spinning. They reached for weapons and joined the fray.

As the cloud wrapped around Loranna and Ciel, their was a flash. The cloud turned at their touch and flew back into the face of the lich king. Tris's and Loranna's reflect spells had held.

As the cloud caressed the skin of Teleran, Dante, and Tris, there were flashes of magic as Tris's and Loranna's reflect and absorb spells tried to stave off the damage. Slick, red skin formed on the flesh of their extremeties as their protections were overcome. The new, foul-smelling flesh crawled along their bodies. For Tris and Dante, it stopped quickly enough. It crawled halfway up Teleran's one arm before stopping.

As the cloud wrapped around Loranna and Ciel, their was another flash. Loranna's reflect spell had held for them.

The cloud, reflected tenfold, flew back into the face of the lich.

The cold, scratchy voice laughed.

And laughed.

And as it laughed it became warmer, fleshier.

The cloud dispersed.

The lich king stood, fully fleshed in baby-smooth skin. The crown of fingerbones on his head grew from his skull like he had been born with it.

He laughed again.

Loranna feels her mind start to clear; all of her friends now were imperiled, and they needed her to do what she was supposed to do.

Teleran was hit the worst, and so she turns to heal him first, at first casting a healing spell to hopefully reverse the corruption of his flesh - but as she's casting she has a sudden thought. She changes her spell to one meant to repel undead, channeling it into Teleran's arm.

Tris had kept his nerve in the face of the monkeys and the wave of corruption. Now, looking at his own fingers overgrown with hideous flesh, he lost it. He screamed. He would have turned to run but there was no place to run to.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 18 2005, 10:13 AM

Teleran watched as the zombies became so fleshed out they almost seemed alive again. He sent Nehtayem hurtling towards the lich, the other two daggers tried to strip the newly aquired flesh from the zombies. He tried to move his spear to take on the approaching creatures, trying to ignore the burning. His arm seemed strangely unresponsive.

Posted by: Rhedd Feb 18 2005, 10:17 AM

"Yess," said the new, warm voice of the lich king.

"Come to me. Worship me. Do my bidding.

"You are my children as are all. Come, embrace me."

Teleran's arm moved. All on its own.

Just as Teleran's arm starts to move, Loranna's Turn Undead spell courses through the infected limb; there is an almost audible screaching and a wet, sickly sound as the corrupted flesh withers and sloughs off of Teleran's arm, landing with a plop at his feet and emitting a foul odor.

Loranna turns to Tris, having heard his scream; she waits only long enough to gulp down a restore potion before firing off Turn Undead spells on everyone else infected, her eyes flashing. More screaming, withering flesh falls off of limbs ...

The lich king's brand new lip curls in anger.

The undead warriors charge forward, new muscles driving their swords.

Off to one side, the mass of mutilated monkeys pulses under a layer of thick, fatty flesh.

Teleran's eyes widened in horror as his arm lifted on its own. When the corruption left him he couldn't help exclaiming in relief, despite the sickening noise and smell. He wielded his spear now that he had control, Nehtayem continued on its course, the two daggers descended into the undead. Teleran charged to meet them his spear flashing out towards the foremost warrior as he closed the gap.

Loranna's spell freed Tris's hands from the corruption that had covered them a moment ago.

It took a moment longer to free his brain from the cloud of freezing terror. It was like waking up and suddenly realizing you were standing toe to toe with a lich. In a dungeon, deep under the ground. With only one leg. And all your friends depending on you.

Oh wait, that was what he was doing.

"Bastard," he said, firing another lightning bolt at the lich king. "We're not that easy!"

And neither is he, Loranna thinks grimly, as Dante is cured of the corrupted flesh.

Seeing the pulsating pile of flesh, Loranna decides that perhaps some preventive medicine would be helpful, and tries using Turn Undead magic on the pile. Whatever was gestating in that, she didn't want it anywhere near her or her friends ...

I'm going to need another restore potion soon if I keep casting like this, she notes.

The lich king's tender new flesh crackled and smoked under Tris's lightning. Huge chunks of seared flesh fell from his ribs. He frowned.

"Ah, well..." he said, his voice gurgling.

Loranna's turn undead spell rippled over the heaving mass of flesh and monkey bones.

The king laughed.

Suddenly, a fleshy tentacle shot out from the throbbing mass and grabbed the lich king's head. With a sickening wrench, his head was torn from his burned body, which collapsed to the ground.

A second later, the tentacle retracted, pulling the head into the pink lump.

The zombies who fought with Dante and Teleran suddenly stopped and backed away.

"That... is... DISGUSTING!" Tris said, turning his attention to the pulsing mass of flesh. Hopefully it too was vulnerable to lightning.

He was beginning to tire, despite the potions he had drunk. He felt light-headed. But he raised his hands and sent lightning into the pile.

"Tris, fortify spell coming your way," Loranna calls out, casting Fortify Inteligence and Endurance to help the Breton continue his magical assault.

"Tel dear, you all right?" Loranna asks, frowning. "We need to kill that pulsating, fleshy ... blegh, just make that thing not be moving anymore!"

"Quite," Teleran said as he called his daggers to float around him and readied his spear, hopefully if you cut those tentacles off they didn't keep moving. He moved back to the group and slightly forward of the casters.

"Anybody got a fireball scroll handy? It looks organic, and that means it burns." Teleran said. "I'll try to keep the tentacles off us."

The dead, now backing away, gave Ciel a chance to ease up on his relentless swinging. The pile of corpses was a terrible pull on his attention. Regardless, he was going to stand ready and keep the foul thing's appendeges away from Tris.

Tris's spell burned a hole in the fleshy mass, and a few charred monkey bones fell out.

Instantly, a new tentacle shot out and grabbed a vacant-eyed zombie.

With a horrible sucking sound, the corpse was pulled into the wound, which healed.

Slowly, with a painful expression, a face pushed its way out of the mass. It was the face of the lich king.

Above, barely noticable in the dark, a small group of perfectly alive flying monkeys crawled along the ceiling, silently watching the horrible spectacle below.

"This isn't working!" Tris yelled. "Can we rush past the thing? Fortify speed, make for the far door?"

Very slowly, six of the living monkeys crawled down the wall, carefully staying hidden from the undead.

"We'd still have to get everyone through before it could catch up! And with those tentacles ..." Loranna says.

Loranna looks around; there had to be something they could do. "Maybe collaspe the roof on its head, or ... wait, what's that moving over there ..."

What are those monkeys doing? Loranna thinks.

" ... Damnit, what do we do ..."

"I'm going," Tris said suddenly. "Ciel, come on."

He channelled all his energy into a spell to fortify their speed, over a broad area, then reached into the Void for himself. Just a fiddle and a twitch... and he could be across the room quicker than thought, foot or no foot.

The knight nodded his head and followed. He didn't, however, take his gaze from the beast, always maintianing his guard as they withdrew.

The lich-face frowned, seeing Tris and Ciel tense and start to break for it, but then something else caught his attention...

The small group of living monkeys suddenly swooped upon the heaving mass of their brethren's remains.

A tentacle flashed out and popped one monkey like a grape.

The others, however, buried their sharp fangs in the pulsating monstrosity, then retreated as fast as they could fly.

One was not fast enough.

Tris hesitated at the door to the next section, long enough to throw a light spell into the abyss. His light illuminated the fiery abyss. The dark one must be the watery one, then. Donning his ring of levitation, he kicked off into the room of the watery abyss, extending his arm back through to stop the shifting of the rooms.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 18 2005, 11:19 AM

Teleran sprints after Tris and Ciel. His daggers drop to float between him and the tentacled thing, his spear follows along. He runs as fast as possible, faster than he had expected, much faster. He sees the portal stabilize as Tris's arm appears and leaps through it, scrambling to get the rising force potion to his mouth, before he falls.

He drinks the potion in time to stop just short of the far wall, he climbs slightly to be on level with the door.

The lich-face laughed, and a dozen fleshy tentacles shot out at the runners.

Dead flesh was entirely immune to the deadly poision of the flying monkeys, but magically created flesh was not.

The lich-face choked, and coughed up something green. Large blisters appeared on the sides of the mass.

"Vermin!" the lich-face shouted in a gurgling voice. "Peasants! None shall escape my wrath!"

The tentacles turned a sickly green and began to wither.

Above the group, the walls of the familiar natural chimney were coated with furry, leathery forms.

The entire group of monkeys started making noise. It sounded like nothing so much as snickering children.

Tris didn't wait to be asked twice. Making sure Ciel was with them, he headed into the hole.

Posted by: Rhedd Feb 18 2005, 11:37 AM

Above, the monkeys made no move to fly at the intruders. They simply clung to the walls.

After a moment, they stopped laughing and started spitting down the chimney, trying to beat each other's score.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 18 2005, 11:42 AM

Teleran waited for everyone else to file into the hole, dodging spittle from the overhead monkeys. When the last person was in he bought his weapons to comein just after himself. If they did charge he could at least put up some sort of fight. They didn't seem to be aggressive at the moment though.

Posted by: Loranna Feb 18 2005, 11:43 AM

The dark depths of the tight, claustophobic crack seem to mock Loranna as she gets on her hands and knees and starts to enter; pausing for a second she casts a light spell, remembering that in a short while she won't have the room to cast spells for a long ways.

For the second time in as many days, Loranna regrets her figure, something she was normally rather proud of; she tells herself that she'll make up for all this once she gets back to Jazbet, though she keeps finding her thoughts straying back to Teleran as she crawls into the crack.

Posted by: Rhedd Feb 18 2005, 11:49 AM

The crack between the two layers of stone, less than a foot tall, sloped steadily downward toward a cave everyone knew was full of water.

Even with a light spell, one could not see far. The light shone brightly off of the stone that pressed tightly against Loranna, keeping her eyes from focusing on the dark beyond. Those behind her could only see the feet of the person in front of them, silhouetted against the light.

The crack went on and on.

Without warning, Loranna's face came nose-to-nose with another. The other face in the hole was furry. It was brown with a slight greenish tinge. Pure mischief sparkled in its beady eyes.

It's mouth smiled, revealing needle-sharp fangs.

Quick as anything, it nipped her nose, then bared it's teeth again and scampered down the crack the way it had come.

Loranna's nose instantly felt like it weighed as much as a melon. Her spell must be fading, because it seemed to be getting darker...

" ... Bas ... tard ..." Loranna moans, fighting to stay conscious.

" ... Monkey ... ahead," she says, trying to push herself forward; if she collapsed now her friends would be trapped in this forsaken hole and ... and ...

There couldn't be too much farther to go; she pushes herself forward, inch by inch, reminding herself that she is a Nord and she isn't going to die in this hole and she was going to see Jazbet again and tell him all about their adventures in Gemin ...

Behind Loranna, Tris shouted something obscene and pinched her foot, pushing at her. There was no way he could get his hands in a position to cast a spell to cure her of the poison.

"KEEP MOVING, YOU -" he shouted, following it with another obscenity. If she died now, they would be trapped behind her.

"Keep moving; right Allie ..." Loranna says, Tris's pinch barely registering. "Won't stop now ... come too far to just stop, right?"

How did that song Allie sang for Sen-Yedda go again? Loranna wonders as the darkness gets deeper. Don't hum it aloud, of course, but it was a nice song; lovely lovely song, very good rhythm, perfect for moving on and on ...

The blood was pounding in her ears, but Loranna keeps moving, somehow; the pounding slowly gives way in her mind to the sound of a song, her breathing echoing in the narrow confines of the hole as she pulls herself forward ...

She couldn't die yet; she promised she wouldn't ...

Tris didn't like crawling through tight spaces, he hated being underground in the first place. It was hard to draw a deep breath, the space was so tight. His nose was sweating and it tickled and he couldn't scratch it.

"Please, Loranna, please move," he begged, slapping her foot. Was she dead? Was she moving at all?

Loranna's fingers were obviously completely numb. She couldn't feel the stone in front of her anymore. Then she tumbled free of the crack, sliding down a slippery limestone floor and into a calm, mirrored pool.

Tris felt her feet leave his hand, then heard a splash.

Above, near the ceiling, a small group of monkeys watched in alarm.

"Don't you dare mess with me, you fudgeers," Tris shouted at the monkeys, as he scrambled out of the hole, reaching to cast cure poison on Loranna. His shirt was sodden with sweat, although the underground space was cold.

Well, he'd have to swim in a minute, wouldn't he? Then he'd be wet all over.

"Loranna, you're alive, wake up girl, you made it," he said, cradling her head in his lap at the edge of the water.

Loranna splashes into the pool, gurgling as she moves her lips to the sound of the song in her head; her ashen skin is a sickly color and she isn't moving much to get herself out of the water.

Her hands wave in an approximation of the casting motions for the spell she had meant to cast as soon as she was free.

A moment later, Loranna's eyes focus and she looks up at Tris. "Made it ..." she says, "Made it ..."

She starts taking deep breaths, to reinvigorate herself. " ... No more holes; next time we find some other way through, or blast lightning into the hole beforehand ... oh merciful whoever thank you Tris, thank you ..."

Loranna looks up at the monkeys, and holds up her hands ...

"You nearly killed my friends," she mutters. "And you're sure as hell not getting another chance at it ..."

Chanting a spell, Loranna says " ... Give me your lives," and throws Absorb Health spells at the monkeys.

A few minutes later he was out of the hole and when he turned to see the monkeys on the ceiling he decided that this really wasn't the best escape route. Now he understood whay the other monkeys had just laughed.

He slid down to the water sending his dagger for a monkey as it dove for Ciel. "Is everyone okay?" he asked as he entered the water. He sees Loranna casting an absorb spell, "I think you've been hanging around liches too long. 'Give me your lives,' really."

With one last scream, the monkeys did indeed give their lives to Loranna. Their eyes turned foggy, their fur became dull, and they fell, twitching, to the cave floor where they each slid into the water with a cold "plunk".

The last one, with it's dying breath, struggled valiantly to crawl to the surface and bite the intruders.

Then it sank.

The knight glanced over at Teleran as he spoke. Ciel had been previously unaware of the Dunmer's change in appearance because of his resticted view. The visor of his helm obscured most of the Breton's face but his exposed mouth was set in a hard line just lingering above a frown. He stared unable to break gaze for a moment and then shook his head.

Summary
Reichi - with the group....
Camassim- making his way eastward towards hammerfell..
Tohe and Eya, hanging around near Ald Raathim and Jazbet's estate, planning to ride out the Full moon in the woods, rather than risk their, and their friends lives by trying to get through the Vaults of Gemin before the full moons rises.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Reichi followed into the crypt. He was fully armored in his chitin armor, and his boots made a soft clunking noise as he walked into the crypt. Reichi drew the Dagger of Senses, and his Daedric shortblade. The stench of decay and death became much more pronouced with the drawing of the Dagger of Senses and he stumbled for a moment, then regained his composure. Even in the gloom, he could see rather well, and hear better. The stench however, making him wish he hadn't drawn the damned thing.

Summary:

The evening after the first time through, Keffe-Zel left for his home, unwilling or unable to be with the others on their quest. However, like any other warrior with honor, he couldn't just abandon the others.

Keffe-Zel rejoined with the party the next morning, and had been tagging along since then. For the most part, he's been silent.

________________________________

The Battle of Sadrith Mora:

Wolverine Hall was a pinnacle of Imperial construction. Like the other forts in Vvardenfell, it was designed to defend against any incursion of men, mer, and creature. Similarly, the town of Sadrith Mora was well-protected, since it was the seat of House Telvanni. Magic flowed freely here... even if barely more than half remained.

Scelestus Maximus and his brother Fatuus were lounging on the battlements, talking of their leave time to Cyrodiil. They joked about visiting the red-light district and being "relieved of duty", as they so eloquently put it. Eventually, the joking turned into jesting, and eventually turned into a heated argument over which of the auxiliary legionaire women were the one they'd most like to take to bed.

Had they been paying attention, they would have noticed the shadow slip over the wall, crouching in a dark hole. Slowly, the shadow lifted a finger, pointing at both the men. A single word, "Umbra", was uttered, and a hole opened up beneath the soldiers. Neither of them had time to scream as their life-force was sucked into a void.

The shadow, once a member of the Morag Tong, looked about the battlements. Around him, soldiers walked almost aimlessly, lazily, as they usually did. On the ground, some men faught against each other in mock combat.

No one noticed the shadow, and that's how he liked it. Placing an arrow to a bow, he pointed up and fired.
-----------------------------
Alandro saw the signal flare light all of Wolverine Hall, plus a bit of Sadrith Mora. His men were stationed on the northern tip, far from prying eyes; well, mostly, he noted, looking briefly at the dead Khajit next to him. He lifted a hand, and his soldiers all stood at once, their glowing blue eyes making them appear as machines in the darkness.

"On my mark, forward," he called. "Archers in the back, I want you to ready your arrows. Men in the front, ready the Fence," he looked to his right. "You know what to do,"

A pair of bright blue eyes stared from nothingness. "Yes," came a raspy whisper. Looking back at his men, he nodded. "Let's go,"

150 pairs of feet began forward. The men in the front stretched to a line of 60 and held their spears in the air. These men wanted to desperately cry out to their goddess in battle, but many of them appreciated and valued the use of stealth. The rest readied their arrows, waiting for the signal to unleash their hail against Wolverine Hall.

First the Fort, then the town. Alandro reasoned. He looked back at his men once again and lifted his spear in reverence to Azura. Closing his eyes and breathing deep, he prepared for battle.
---------------------------
The Telvanni guard heard a cutting sound, then felt his own blood spill down his neck before he hit the dirt. A pair of azure eyes looked down at the body before "hmph"ing and moving on. He boldly walked down the middle of the street, brushing by a guard and leaving the man a little bladed gift in his neck. This was seen by two nearby archers, guarding the entrance to the Council Hall.

They lifted their arrows to shoot, but paused when they noticed the bright blue eyes. One recovered and managed to loose an arrow, but in the darkness he missed badly. The second regained his head then, and dropped the bow in favor of his prized longsword.

The blue-eyed shadow smiled.

As the first archer dropped his bow, two wakizashis jumped out of their sheaths into nearly invisible hands. A jump had the creature land next to the second one, and soon he began a slow dual with the guard. A second later, the first archer was also fighting.
-------------------------
"Fire!" was the command.
90 arrows flew into the air, each laced with fast-burning oil and rags. They flew into the air and landing in various spots along Wolverine Hall, catching things on fire - including people.

Alandro smiled wickedly, and ordered for a small contingent of his ten best men to charge with him into the hall. Behind him, the archers continued firing, and the men with the fence walked behind the charge.

The unorganized and confused guards stood little chance. Alandro easily ducked and parryed his first opponent's blows before running him through. Another legionnaire screamed and made a thrust, but Alandro merely smirked as he thrust his chest out, letting the sword bounce off the armor. The guard tried again, but this time Alandro grabbed the blade, tearing it from the Imperial's grasp and running him through with his own blade.

Behind him, an invocation let him know that there was no way out. The other men of his had erected the wall on the bridge, whilst archers fired from the safety of across the moat. With even more bloodlust than before, Alandro and his men began to fight quicker, deadlier. The fight was quickly becoming boring.

Just then, a glimmer from above caught his eye. Looking up, Alandro saw an Argonian with a hand lifted. Pointing down, he cast a bolt of pure ice at the immortal. The ice lance cut through skin, but it only made Alandro grit his teeth in anger. Shouting a single command, he went up to the battlements in one leap, chasing the Argonian as he went inside.
---------------------------
The assailant tired of his game. He quickly finished off the two opponents and walked up the path to the council hall. The door was locked, but a simple open spell let the door come open without noise.

Stepping in, the blue eyes came into the light, and the figure of a Dunmer was seen. Bony wings fluttered on his back as he looked around calmly, assuredly, like a man who knows no fear. His two weapons dripped blood; the Black Blade in his right hand told him that it was necessary; his wakizashi in his right, now called Blood-Drinker, simply called for the blood of foes.

Tharivor - for that was what he was called - stepped on through to the council chambers, where the only wizards remaining in the Telvanni House had erected a magical wall and hollowed out the building. Stars twinkled from behind their protective sanctuary, their globe of immunity, but Tharivor showed no sign of hesitation, even as the ten fireballs came streaking towards him.
-------------------------
Alandro burst into the Imperial shrine. The first thing he saw was a terrified priest, whom he felled in one thrust. Next he saw the Imperial Cult altar. A simple destruction spell got rid of the offending object, granting him even easier access to the stairs going up.

Dropping the spear, Alandro began up the stairs. A guard was in his way, but Alandro didn't stop moving as he grabbed the man by the face, ripping the helmet off. Then he began pushing the Cyrodiil back before reaching up with both hands and snapping the guard's neck.

He moved on.

Eventually, the eye of the Mage's Guild glared at him. He touched the door, but a force repelled him. He tried again, but there was still no way to open the door. Seeing no way inside otherwise, he channeled his magicka into his fists, then made a right hook at the door. The wooden object blew off its hinges.

Behind it, the door revealed the Sadrith Mora Mage's Guild, already in the midst of casting various spells. Before they could finish, however, he slipped past and came face-to-face with Skink-in-Tree's-Shade, the leader of the Guild here.

"What is it?" he asked Alandro.
"You attacked me. That deserves death," was the simple response.
--------------------
The smoke cleared, but Tharivor kept walking, on through to the wall, even as he felt the burn of fire touch him.

Reaching up, a simple dispel invocation destroyed the wall just by touching it, and Tharivor had free access to the mages, save the one in Daedric armor that slipped out with a Recall spell. Nonetheless, Tharivor drew his blades and charged the wizards.

The first was too stunned to prevent his decapitation. The second and third managed to raise hands before their arms were severed. The fourth took a futile swing at Tharivor with a staff, and was rewarded by a thorough mutilation.

However, the last two managed to cast their most powerful shock spells. Pain screamed in Tharivor's body as he turned and glared at the two. Without a sound, though, he ran right by them, into the darkness of the night.

The two mages looked at each other, confused, before they both noticed that they seemed to be falling. They looked down to see themselves severed through the stomach.

They couldn't stop themselves. They fell in to the blackness... they fell in...
-------------------------
Skink's broken form was thrown down. Alandro stepped on the Argonian's head, bursting it into a million pieces. He looked at the shocked wizards around him.

"You will come with us to Red Mountain," he said warily. "You will do best to follow our every order,"
-------------------------

Present:

Tharivor stared at the night sky as he listened to the chanting of the Azurites. He neglected to mention the wizard's disappearance after the fight, nor did he tell of what he had to do. What has important was that Alandro had almost single-handedly taken over Wolverine Hall. The rumor then says he killed all the Telvanni wizards.

But it mattered not to Tharivor. He wasn't in this for glory, for followers, for pride or ego or anything like that. He was in this for one thing.

He was in this for Azura.

(Jazbet's Estate:)

Aricyn sat watching the makeshift city below through the castle window, trying to swallow his afternoon meal. He wondered for the fiftieth time why he had come back to the castle at mealtime.

Luckily, he was spared his next bite by a young lad who ran breathlessly into the hall, his feet drumming on the stone floor.

The boy handed Aricyn a sealed letter, happily accepted a silver coin, and ran breathlessly back out of the hall.

Aricyn opened the letter and read...

Dear Brother,

I hope everything is going very well with you. I still hear news about you, but I suspect it is starting to be a little exaggerated. I am happy to hear that you have grown to be twenty feet tall, Brother!

A lot has changed around here. I've been made a Captain now. It means a lot of paperwork.

We have had a lot of new refugees come from Vvardenfel, and there was some trouble at first. It must be the war there driving so many people our way. When things have just gotten settled, a bunch of strangers is certain to stir people up.

Things are calm now, though. It was really just a matter of finding common ground. After a while, people realized that just because the newcomers were blue-eyed Dunmer, it didn't make them any different than the Khajiit and Argonians already here. Everyone wants freedom.

Well, I have sure talked enough about myself, but you did ask me to tell you everything, so I suppose you aren't bored.

I still look forward to seeing you again very soon! I would like to meet all of your friends, too.

All my love to you, Brother.

In the Emperor's service,
Cyndarius Colla

-------------------------------------------------------
(The office of Captain Cyndarius Colla, in the Palace of the King, in a small city called Freetown, on a tiny island south of Vvardenfel:)

Cyndarius sat behind his cluttered desk in his sparsely decorated office, smiling openly at the Imperial courier.

Two other men shared the room; One was a dark, sleek Bosmer perched on the open windowsill, hanging one leg out over the ocean far below, fletching arrows. The other was a terribly disreputable looking Breton, not old but quite scruffy. He wore the silver breastplate of a Lieutenant of the Imperial Legion, carved with laurel wreaths and dragon heads that showed him as having been greatly honored for heroism.

The Imperial courier held out a packet of orders, sealed with the Imperial Seal, to the young blonde Captain.

"No, no. Don't give them to me. Give them to him," Cyndarius said, nodding to the scruffy Lieutenant.

Confused by the eccentric request, the courier hesitantly offered the packet to the other man.

"Well, Merey?" Cyndarius asked as the Lieutenant opened and read the orders.

Merey responded by curling his lip in disgust and frowning.

Cyndarius frowned slightly, as well. "Okay," he said to the courier, "here's what I need you to do; Get lost."

Completely confused now, the courier managed to say, "What?"

"Well, you see, you got lost on your way here, and I never received those orders.

"Merey, do you think you could help this fine man get lost?"

"Sure," the scruffy man said, "I'm always frickin' lost."

Cyndarius smiled again at the courier. He felt a little sorry for the guy.

"But, I don't understand, Captain," the courier said, "These orders come from the Emperor Himself! Surely they must be followed!"

"Well, back on the farm," Cyndarius began. Both Merey and the elf rolled their eyes, knowing yet another 'farm story' was on the way.

"... our old cow used to get into the turnips," Cyndarius continued, unaware of the eye-rolling.

"My old dad used to get furious. He'd hand me the axe and say, 'Cyndarius, you go kill that bloody cow! That'll be the end of that turnip thieving beast!"

Cyndarius's voice always dropped an octave when he imitated his father, although in reality, the old Colovian's voice was much higher than his adopted son's.

"Every time, I'd say, 'Yes Dad.', then take the axe and put it back in the shed.

"Later he'd come to me and say, 'Cyndarius, did you kill that bloody cow?', and I say, 'Yes Dad.'

"But you know, the next morning my dad always asked for milk with his hotcakes."

The courier looked at the beautiful, young, golden-haired Captain with an expression of utter confusion.

"Come on, lad," said Merey, "let's get you lost."

Taking the man by the arm, he led him out of the office and into the city. They passed through colorful streets, eventually arriving at a large pub.

"This looks like a frickin' good place to get lost, eh?"

The courier smiled weakly, still thinking about turnips.

On the way in the door, an amorous young couple, a fiery-eyed Dunmer man and a Dunmer girl with striking blue eyes, bumped into the courier.

"Oh, pardon us," the blue-eyed girl said hanging on her man's arm. "Terribly sorry."

(Black Marsh, The Vaults of Gemin:)

The crypt room was not exactly as the group had left it. Last time through, the battle between two Dagoth Liches had torn a huge hole in the floor, and down everyone had gone.

The hole had been, for lack of a better word, repaired. Slabs of stone, broken pillars, and other rubble had been used to cover the yawning hole, perhaps in an attempt to keep the creatures below where they belonged.

Other than that large change, the room was the same; It was still filled with sarcophagi, some stood open, but many were still closed.

Three arched doors led out of the room on the far side. Over each was a stone relief of a skull surmounted by four wings. Two of the three doors were overgrown with dusty old cobwebs. The third stood clear and black.

Loranna stays well away from the sarcophagi.

"Someone was busy," she notes quietly, looking to her companions. "Time to check for traps again."

She prepares her healing spells well in advance ...

Nalion entered the chamber, keeping an eye out for anything that would seem to be odd... Well odd seemed the word to descirbe that dungeon very well. Odd, dark and deadly.

The mage eyed the reliefs suspiciously.
"Wings..." he muttered and lifted an eyebrow.

Glancing at Solin, Nalion answered: "We have to get through this hall, so we should have a look at these, yes. Can anyone check for traps?"

A ball of blueish-white light appeared over the mages left palm.

"Guess that's it." Nalion followed warily, touching his dagger of senses and hoping he could get a small advance warning if anything happened.

Nalion was just about to call something out to Teleran as the wall slid down.
Nalion jumps back with a start.
"What the... Dante!" The mage backs away a bit.
"This is a maze. We should get either out of that doorway or stick close. Teleran, what's with your dagger you used so skillfully some time past? Can you use it here?"

A moment later, everyone who remained felt the floor drop out from beneath them for a moment. When they slammed to a halt... CLUNK!... Ciel was standing just behind them.
Nalion, meanwhile, found himself alone on a steep stair.

*

Nalion felt a sickening feeling in his stomach as the trip went upward. He staggered with the sudden motion of the stairway and stabilized himself.
"Hmm, I went up, to the others should be down."

Just as he started to give it a run, he nearly ran into Ciel. He was very close to the point of his sword.
"Ciel? That you?"

Anyways, to forestall anything that could happen, a green aura engulfed Nalion as he used his sanctuary ring.

"There's got to be some way to get this to stop," Tris said. "What's triggering it?"

Ald Raathim:

Arynel retreived a few blank pieces of paper, along with an inkwell and pen, which he placed on the top of an unoccupied table. The Breton then walked to the shelves and retreived a number of small manuscripts, which he took with him back to the table. Arynel began to write, occasionally reading something in one of the manuscripts, then returning to his own work.

The Secret Wisdom of Vabazeri

Khaj-Rawlith pulled open the door, the lock had been easy to overcome; as they all were, when properly caressed. He pulled the door open and a light invaded the darkness of the current section grotto, stepping into the room before him the Khajiit found a locked chest, and situated on either side flaming torches. He glanced around quickly to reassure himself of his secrecy, and then he moved forward towards the chest. It was an old legend, and all but forgotten, of the ja'khajiit who had first found the Secret Wisdom of Vabazeri. Some sources say he found enlightenment in the sugar, others in the skills of a thief, others still he learned to listen to the secrets whispered throughout the ta’agra’iss. All legends agreed, though, on one thing, the Secret Wisdom of Vabazeri was lost, or rather, hidden.

It had been too easy. Khaj-Rawlith was good, very good, he could see like the moons, he could move like the wind, and his fingers could slip into moneybags like cold air finding its way into a ripped piece of clothing. It had been too easy, Khaj-Rawlith was good, very good, but not that good, the Secret Wisdom of Vabazeri would not be so easily uncovered. The Khajiit stepped cautiously towards the chest, setting his feet down with care, his ears twitched. Khaj-Rawlith began to tremble slightly as he reached his hand out toward the chest, but he quickly steadied himself, lest he make a mistake.

Khaj-Rawlith reached out towards the lock on the chest, and caressed it just so, as he would a Ma-Khajiit, there was a soft click as the lock gave, the hinge creaked as the lid of the chest was pulled open. Inside were merely a few ounces of moon sugar, no secret wisdom of vabazeri, so Khaj-Rawlith closed the lid. No, something was wrong, the Khajiit pulled open the lid again, inside were only a few ounces of moon sugar, and so again, Khaj-Rawlith shut the lid.

Khaj-Rawlith came to his feet, and scanned the area; the room was empty, save for the chest and torches and the only exit was the one way he had entered by. He wondered how the torches had managed to remain lit for all this time, and so pulled one out to examine it further; as he did there was a creaking sound from inside the chest. Holding the torch in one hand, Khaj-Rawlith opened the lid of the chest, revealing a plate of pearls inside, the Khajiit again closed the lid. He returned the torch to its resting place, and turned to lift the other, as expected, a soft groan emanated from the chest. He pulled the lid open, and inside was a book, Words of Clan Mother Ahnissi. The Khajiit again closed the lid, and returned the torch to its resting place.

It was then that Khaj-Rawlith became discouraged, but only for a moment, for he was as crafty as the moons. The Khajiit took hold of first one torch, and then the other, holding each in one arm, leaving his other free to work. The Khajiit opened the chest, and found within nothing but the wooden bottom, and so he shut it again. Khaj-Rawlith returned the torches to their resting places and turned back towards the door, his tail drooping like the ja'khajiit who had been up too late.

And then the moons came.

Khaj-Rawlith purred like a ja’khajiit, and he reached out and took hold of both torches, and he ran around the room and danced and twirled like the young ones do on Heart’s Day. Khaj-Rawlith laughed, saying, “The Secret Wisdom of Vabazeri is in the torches Khaj-Rawlith holds in his hands, have any the sugar to see this? And now that Khaj-Rawlith holds the torches, the secret wisdom has become his own, and he leaves them behind, for another who may also have the sugar to see this.”

So then Khaj-Rawlith returned the torches to their resting places, and left the room through the same passage he had entered, closing the door behind him.

"I guess there was a need for that." he muttered. "What did you say?"
He thought a moment. "No, Loranna, I haven't seen anything that could hint at how these things are moving. The CLUNKS just seem to indicate that there is something mechanical in there moving it, but else?"

"Quite..." He replied to Nalion, loosening the grip on his sword and holding his hands up near his face. Facing his palms up to them, to show he had nothing to hide.

"So...which way do we go?" He asked quietly, approaching the two further.

"Sorry Lor, it doesn't work that way," Teleran said. "I can only manipulate things I know about, by line of sight usually."

Loranna's expression falls. "Damn ... oh well ..."

"Okay; think Lor ..." she mutters aloud, looking around. "How do we get out of her ... wait; have I tested everyone in here yet?"

She looks around. Nalion she tested just a moment ago; Tleran she remembers testing a while ago. That left ...

Her eyes go to Dante. "Dear hang on," she says, raising her hands to cast Dispel.

[Ciel, with Tris]

Ciel felt his strength failing him.  It was strangely similar to when he had been attacked in Rihad.  He frowned, this was still going to hurt even if Tris was murdering him.  Gathering what will and strangth he could, he swung a concerted blow at the spell caster while lunging forward.

*

Tris looked surprised as Ciel's blade cut upward, into his lungs, touching his heart. He had thought he was faster than that - but the swiftness he remembered seemed to be stored in a place he couldn't touch.

"Fool, you're dead already," he wheezed, with his last breath. The pale face still looked like Tris's face, as he belched a bubble of blood. "You'll never get through... never..."

Dante turned from the wall to see Loranna's raised hands. "What's that for?" He asked inquisitively, He already knew what it was for but asked anyway, just for the sake of it.

The dagger disappears back into its scabbard.

"I can't stand this," Tris said. "This should be so easy for me."

He was thinking, thinking hard. He had dashed through the room of the lich king, with no worry about his foot. He could move as fast as ever. Speed was in the mind, not the body. Some part of himself he could barely touch was striving to remember something.

Teleran's left arm came up to grab the slashing dagger and the spear was released and rotated behind Dante. A stahlrim dagger came up to block the stabbing short sword and an iron dagger same into the now free hand.

He drew his dagger of senses and it enhanced his perception. he still couldn't see her, but there was a scent of womanly sweat in the air. A dispel spell flew at the direction he thought the smell was.

Dante, with Ciel and Nalion-

Seeing Ciel flee further down the corridor, Dante took it upon himself to help Nalion to his feet. He waited for what the fake Ciel would do next. When the hallways shifted and Ciel dissapeared, Dante let out a sigh of Relief. "Are you okay?"

F-Nalion's Dispel effect creates sparkles just to Loranna's left; the Nord hurriedly backs away, especially when F-Dante starts swinging wildly.

Okay ... Reichi's busy fighting Teleran, and I've got two duplicates trying to fight me, she assesses. How to do this ...

Dante's sword cleaves the air; Loranna nimbly steps behind him. His armor looked stronger than her strength could easily penetrate, and he was moving around more than would allow her to go for a throat cut without a fight. However ...

Loranna fades back into view behind F-Dante as she casts the Absorb Agility spell she had meant for Teleran; her shortsword is already moving into position to parry Dante's counterattack, and Loranna hopes to keep F-Dante between her and F-Nalion.

Teleran
Feeling the enchantment wash over him Teleran looked at the wall thoughtfully. "I cannot recall exactly what Dagoth did, and this wall is a bit thicker than the floor was I believe, but I will try. A little hole first. Yes, more force in less area, that may just do it. Stand back Tris, I may just bring the tunnel down on us." He took out one Nehtayem to give him a point to focus on and slammed the wall with as much force as he could muster.

*

With a loud CLUnnKKK Crack, the wall cracked, then just a short distance down the hall from the impact point, it shifted.

Ciel stood there, battered and breathing hard.

For some completely illogical reason he had been certain, moments ago, that Ciel was in desperate trouble. Now relief flooded him.

[Ciel, now with Tris, late of Dante and Nalion.]

"Tris?" Ciel said back still breathing hard as if he had just come from a fight. "Thank the Nine you're alright. I was under attack."

He leaned against the wall letting the sword point fall to the ground.

"Dante and Nalion... they ambushed me," he continued. "We were engaged when the wall shifted again."

*

A searing ache rippled though Nalions body just as the lightning spell took flight. His concentration wavered a seemingly endless moment, then the spell dissolved into a harmless display of colours, enabling Ciel to escape.

Nalion slumps together and drops fully to the ground as Dante offers his helping hand.
"That hit hurt, Dante. Give me a moment to get myself concentrated enough to heal me. That bastard took me by surprise."

Loranna ... Who Is More Evil Than Advertised But Only Due To Circumstance:

*

The problem of a mage supporting an attack with spells always is not to hit his allies as well. That couldn't be avoided sometimes, but just now, false Dante danced in front of his vision.
He relied on him taking care of Loranna, turned around and sought Reichi as a new target for the fireball that was forming in his hand.

The Overconfident One. No, not the real one, the fake
Teleran took the dagger in the chest, then the arm, then his back as he turned. He offered little resistance as he continued laughing madly. He didn't seem to care for the blows as he reached for the iron dagger that had fallen from his grasp. As his fingers closed on the mortal nature of the wounds became clear as Teleran slashed awkwardly backhanded at Reichi, the laughter becoming bleak.

Teleran
"True, but this trap is not like the portals, it takes us between places within the same realm. There are a finite number of possiblities. Also, we wandered for quite a while before coming upon one another, he simply popped out right next to us." Teleran said. " That will not work, likely I knocked something on this end. I will continue now, but please do not allow him to get behind you, or take you unawares, Tris. I need to concentrate for this."

With a loud CLUNK, the hall lurched sideways, carrying everyone, including the fake Ciel's corpse, with it.

The group found themselves in a large, round room lit with an orangy light.

A handful of gaunt, corpse-like creatures stood around the edge of the room, manning large bronze levers. A large glowing ball rested at the center of the room, and in it Loranna and Reichi could be seen fighting with Teleran, Dante, and Nalion.

Dante's jaw dropped, "Amazing...." He stated, quite simply. "So this is how it works..." He moved over to the ball in the centre of the room and watched as he slumped down dead in-between two corridors. He didn't say a word, quite spooked at watching his own death.

QUOTE(Rhedd @ Feb 20 2005, 11:07 AM)

With a loud CLUNK, the hall lurched sideways, carrying everyone, including the fake Ciel's corpse, with it.

The group found themselves in a large, round room lit with an orangy light.

A handful of gaunt, corpse-like creatures stood around the edge of the room, manning large bronze levers. A large glowing ball rested at the center of the room, and in it Loranna and Reichi could be seen fighting with Teleran, Dante, and Nalion.

At irregular intervals, one of the horrid creatures would pull a lever. CLUNK!

At the far end of the room, carefully arranged on a table with cups and saucers, was the bloody body of Ciel. His armor lay nearby.

*

True Nalion:
Nalion blached upon the sight of Ciel.
"Everyone, get those creatures. Tris?" Nalion motioned to the fellow Breton.
Nalion waved his hand and with a word, a lightning blast sizzled towards the nearest of the strange creatures.

QUOTE(Aki @ Feb 20 2005, 11:12 AM)

Reichi closed the distance, then leapt up, trying to plant his foot flat on Nalion's face.

*

False Nalion:
Nalion grinned cruelly as Reichi leapt at him, feet first. Anticipating a move from this distance, helped by a sanctuary spell, would deal with that easily.
Just as Reichi's foot was a few inches away, the duraction of the sanctuary spell was over...
Nalions felt the impact, normally this would have knocked him down sincerely. He stood next to the wall though and as his head struck the wall, it left a bloody smear.
Nalion sagged down as he lost control of his conscious motions.

Posted by: Rhedd Feb 20 2005, 12:36 PM

The foul things abandoned their levers and advanced on the intruders, squealing a nasty, high-pitched squeal.

One burst into flames under Nalion's lightning bolt.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 20 2005, 12:36 PM

Teleran looked at the glowing orb in amazement, he saw his own corpse sprawled out behind the fighters. 'Since when did I look like that?' He thought to himself. It was identifiably him, but despite the grievous wounds there was definitely something more aesthetically pleasing about the form. He looked at the creatures working the levers as they came towards him.

Teleran's spear hovered overhead, his daggers came to hand. "Shall we?" He asked.

Ciel wasn't moving.

It was an amazing sensation. Tris's heart was pounding. He could barely see. He felt the jarring pain of the floor hitting his knees as he fell.

This is the place. This is the place you were trying to run to, all those years. Not the Void. This place. This is the place.

He whispered a string of power into his own ear. And then he opened his eyes and spoke it. He had never spoken a string of power before. It was more than letters. You had to know where to speak, and how, and who to speak to.

Ciel stirred, faintly.

"Thank you," Tris whispered.

Dante charged forward, running his blade across what seemed like the creatures chest. And again on what could only be described as the face of another one of the horrid creatures.

Loranna casts a healing spell on herself, and the cut on her hand closes up. She wipes her shortsword clean with a bit of cloth and walks over to Reichi, saying "We need to find the others, and it seems these things can make the walls move by touch alone."

"Late," muttered Teleran as Dante ran to take one down and Nalion blasted one, setting it ablaze. He sent his spear to take one out of the picture. and charged for a knot of the creatures his daggers moving quickly in front of him, probing for breaks in defense and striking home when possible. He felt the effects of the fortifying spells that Tris had cast earlier wearing off as he closed on the creatures.

Reichi hit the ground, landing on his rear. He mumbled a curse and looked at the false Nalion. The breton looked dead, but Reichi made sure to slit it's throat first. He turned to Loranna and nodded.

Teleran's spear penetrated a creature's rubbery chest, knocking it backwards. The spear tip embedded itself neatly in the stone wall, and the creature hung from it, standing but lifeless.

Loranna quickly checks to confirm the three false party members are dead, sighing quietly.

"Let me make sure we're both fully healed," she says, casting another healing spell on herself and Reichi, then heading to the wall F-Dante thoughtfully opened for them. "Least we can be sure about three of ours now; that just leaves Tris and Ciel to worry about ..."

Nalion was busy fighting the creatures, but in the corner of his eye saw Tris lauching a healing wave towards the knight.
The mage really hoped that Tris was able to heal Ciel, but then the brief moment was gone and he had to fully concentrate at the battle again.

Reichi followed after, firmly stomping a boot on the Dante to be sure it was dead.

The foul, rubbery things didn't fight so well in their natural form. They relied on the power of their prey to be dangerous.

On the other side of the wall, Loranna and Reichi could hear combat... and familiar voices.

Loranna's face looks grim. "Here," she says, fortifying Reichi's strength and agility as they approach the sound of the combat. "Let's make haste."

She downs a restorative potion, and prepares her defensive spells; her firends may need them.

Reichi continued onwards, fueled by the spells, reaching the room, he raised an eyebrow. Then he noticed the rest of the patry was here, along with some foul fiends.

Posted by: Rhedd Feb 20 2005, 01:04 PM

The horrible creatures smelled a bit worse dead than they did alive.

The place was quiet now. No screaming, no ominous 'clunk' noises.

The glowing ball in the center of the room showed no movement in the halls outside.

Loranna is right behind Reichi, taking in the scene quickly. Ciel lying on the table; she guesses he is probably real. Tris, who could be either but who looked a little overwhelmed, so he could be real. Dante, Nalion, and Teleran, who all had to be real.

And several monsters who really ought to have copied someone ...

At this point, it was easiest to simple strike at the fiends; Loranna casts Absorb Health at as many of them as she can, to help them die faster to her friends.

" ... Is everyone all right - and real?" Loranna asks, shivering a bit from the rush of energy she absorbed. Her leg no longer has even a twinge of pain, and she looks at Ciel worriedly.

She heads over to Ciel quickly but cautiously, looking to Nalion, Dante, and Teleran for confirmation to heal the knight. Her hands are raised already.
