The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Blue Dawn

Posted by: Loranna Feb 11 2005, 02:11 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.

Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna:

After the party's encounter with the minor lich and the Leech Daedra, Loranna found herself facing a duplicate of herself, and ended up losing to her false image. Said false image just got blasted to bits by Dagoth with some help from Tohe.

Posted by: Sheogorath Feb 11 2005, 02:13 AM

Summary
Jazbet, the blind, precognitive Khajiit Knight of House Dres is at his estate in mainland Morrowind. It was his vision that convinced the adventurers to go the Vaults of Gemin to retrieve the Flamekiss gem, or all would be doomed.

Bosriel, the little dark-haired girl with the hungry red eyes, the Void Vampire, is with Leseth.

Elysana, the Queen of Wayrest, has finally returned home. She is at a banquet at her new palace, the Dome of Wayrest, and has just seen again the battlemage Herwyn, one of the few survivors of her original trip to Morrowind.

Summary
Reichi, Tohe, Eya, Camassim followed the others of the party, and of course, fought duplicates of themselves this left Reichi and Eya incapable of moving unless they're healed rahter soon. Camassim is wounded as well, but still moving, Tohe however, has a bit of a problem, when the false loranna released her area-effect spell, he accidently shifted to his Werewolf form, and will be stuck as such for several hours....
------------------------------------------------------
The Flase Loranna vanquished, Tohe set off to sate his hunger, and retreated back to where the tattered corpse of his double lay and began to feed. Reichi meanwhile, began removing pieces of his Chitin, and tearing cloth portions away from the plates to bandage wounds. Camassim looked indescisive, "Uh...whot to do...whot to do.." he mumbled, watching Tohe. He eventually decided on trying to awaken the unconscious Eya.

The stone floor beneath the adventurers began to crack like thin ice.

Suddenly, there was an explosion of dust and stone in the middle of the room. A red-haired Dunmer looking like Dagoth rose from a crack in the floor, electricity coursing over his skin like serpents. He opened his eyes, but they were empty eye sockets.

It let out a shriek like a high wind.

As the flesh melted away from the illusion, revealing the lich, the floor crumbled away completely, sending the adventurers falling through. They suddenly found themselves rolling down a steep, rough
rock hill that kept going and going …

They had dropped in near the top of a six-sided pyramid and were rolling into an enormous natural cavern.

It would be another hundred feet before they reached the sand at the base. Overhead, giant bats flew around, calling to one another in the darkness.

The lich was nowhere to be seen.

Loranna had felt her heart sink as she saw a duplicate of Dagoth, and yelps as the floor breaks beneath her. She casts Fortify Endurance on herself to better weather the bumpy ride, and her feet sink into the sand with a whoosh.

" ... Everyone!" she calls out, looking for her friends. People were in need of healing when the floor gave way; she hopes no one is now beyond her power.

ooc summaries:

Allerleirauh and Doll at Jazbet's castle.

Tris is in the Vaults of Gemin.

Mirea is in Wayrest.

Dragon, Skein, and Tamne are at the Guildhouse in Daggerfall.

*

Tris, still wearing his levitation ring, had not fallen with the others. Now he levitated down to them.

"This could be really bad," he said. "A doppleganger with the powers of an ancient lich. And I still haven't seen mine."

Posted by: Aki Feb 11 2005, 02:36 AM

"Ow, ow, damn, ow, damnit more, damn, fudge, ouchie, damn, oi, ack, oh, damnit again," Reichi mumbled as he rolled down the slope, when he reached the bottom he sighed and looked up at the bloody streak his fall had left. "That lich is gonna pay for that..." he muttered.

Camassim fared better in getting down, he skidded down with Eya on his back. Tohe meanwhile, landed off somewhere further.

Loranna hurries over to Reichi, already preparing her healing spells.

"Tris, can you see the others?" she calls over as she runs across the sand. "Where's Dagoth and his twin?"

"Here; hold on dear," she says, reaching Reichi and casting healing magic to mend his wounds. "I'll get to your friends in just a second, don't worry."

Posted by: Aki Feb 11 2005, 02:45 AM

The wounds closed and Reichi slowly began to rise. His injuries were mostly sashes or cuts, and healed rapidly under the influence of the spell. Reichi was able to move, but the blood lose made him dizzy. It would fade soon enough though.

Reichi nodded at Loranna, then walked over to a sprawled Dunmeri corpse, his double, and extracted the Dagger of Senses from its eye socket, and recovered his Daedric shortblade nearby.

He began looking for the lich.

"I see giant bats," Tris said. "No liches. But I have a feeling he'll make himself known."

He ran his hands over Ciel, with a minor healing spell, to remove the injuries from the fall.

"Everyone in one piece?"

Posted by: Teleran Feb 11 2005, 02:48 AM

Teleran had arrived late well after the frauds had fully assumed the form of those they attacked and he had consequently found himself flinging daggers at the pairs only to stop them still in the air, unsure which target to strike. In the end he had been singularly ineffective against the foe, not knowing which to strike until after the fakes had been dispatched.

When the floor cracked open Teleran tumbled through the hole, but kept enough balance to send himself towards where Reichi and Eya were falling. A few seconds later he tumbled past as Loranna began healing their wounds.

Searching through his pack he found a few healing potions, and one restore magicka potion. He walked over to offer Loranna the magicka potion, it was of no practical use to him anyway.

The base of the pyramid was thick gray sand which billowed up from time to time due to strange, underground drafts. A low sloping ramp rose to an entrance into the pyramid. Spider-like statues guarded the sides of the ramp.

Stalagmites some ten feet thick, others but a hair, crowded around like sentinels. Wide cave entrances could be seen to the north and west.

Climbing to his feet from the rubble, Ciel gave a brisk nod and survied the his surroundings. Like Tris he had yet to see a double of himself, which could be either good or ill. The knight held his sword out infront of himself ready for something to attack him or Tris.

As the floor fell through, Dagoth was in a state of semi-shock/rage from seeing such a creature that looked like him. It was... disturbing. He could sense the evil coming from it. He had fallen like most of the others, but had stopped himself in mid-air about halfway down.

'This can not be happening...' As he said this, his darker twin appeared behind him.

"Oh... but it is... I am what you once were. And what you WILL become again... once I kill that which you care most about..." The thing disappeared again.

Dagoth, was distraut and confused, but dropped down to the others none the less.

'We have a serious problem...'

Loranna accepts the restore magicka potion from Teleran gratefully; despite having a definite knack for the magic she was using, she'd been hitting her reserves of power pretty hard, and her double's mental drain hadn't helped either.

"Thanks; see if you can help the others?" she asks Teleran, moving over to Eya and the other werewolves to heal them as well.

Seeing Dagoth, Loranna frowns. "What is it?" she asks, before realizing that she had no real way of knowing if this was the real Dagoth ...

Posted by: Aki Feb 11 2005, 02:58 AM

Eya and Camassim were next to receive healing. Once healed, they decided the pyramid looked a bit too ominous and backed away, while Reichi on the other hand, went towards the entrance.

Five septims says the statues attack me... he thought to himself.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 11 2005, 03:01 AM

Teleran looks up to the descending lich and slots the potions back into the pack as the ornate dagger from the dead altmer flies into his hand. the ebony spear hovers above his shoulder as if drawn back to be thrown. "Are you the real one, or the one we've got to be about smashing?"

'What are you doing asking? How can you tell if it speaks truth?'

Dagoth could tell what she was asking herself. She was asking herself if he was the real or the fake. Well, he would try to solve that confusion...

'Loranna I know what you're thinking. It's me... I don't expect you to...' He sensed his darker self nearby. 'He's close... he wants me and you out of the picture... I can tell.' Dagoth was afraid now. Afraid that this thing could actually beat him...

"He can't beat you," Tris said. "You're the one who loves her, remember?"

Posted by: Teleran Feb 11 2005, 03:06 AM

Teleran looked from the lich to Loranna, unsure of what to do. Would the false one come down and act nervous, frightened even, in order to gain their trust? Or would it just kill them, trusting to its superior magic? Teleran looked to Loranna, "Is it him?"

Loranna frowns, still unsure. This Dagoth certainly felt like the one she knew, and yet her own double had had the sense to impersonate her for a while.

" ... Everyone be ready; what defenses you have against spells, prepare them," Loranna says loudly enough for everyone to hear. "This is going to be rough."

Loranna thinks over the spells she knows to counter other spells; she finds herself wishing she had had more time to learn, as her current anti-spell repitoire is not as strong as she'd like.

To Teleran, Loranna says "I'm fairly sure it's him, but stay cautious anyway. The other is around here somewhere."

Tris drank a potion, then another. Then smiled.

"That gives me a little more to work with," he said. He cast a powerful sanctuary spell on the group. Then a spell to increase his luck, and Ciel's. He did not cast a spell to reflect magic - not yet - for they might need healing.

Posted by: Dagoth Lich Feb 11 2005, 03:17 AM

The evil Dagoth watched Loranna, waiting for the best time to attack her and the real Dagoth.

The real Dagoth was obviously on the verge of freakout, but he did his best to hide this from those who didn't know what signs to look for.

'He's close... he's... LORANNA LOOK OUT!' As he said this, a fireball came her way...

Posted by: Teleran Feb 11 2005, 03:18 AM

Teleran frantically searched in his pack for any kind of defensive magic that the potions held, there were a few ptions, not enough to provide a lasting defense but they would provide slight buffering if he got hit by a spell. His daggers, only three of them left now, hovered around him shifting every which way as Teleran tried to look in all directions at once. He held his spear tightly now, and he felt a tingling sensation spread from it and looked down to see that he appeared more like a trick of the light than an actual being. "I guess I finally got that chameleon enchantment working, not that it will trick a lich for a second."

He turned sharply as a fireball streaked towards Loranna, trying to pinpoint where it had been launched from.

Loranna jumps instinctively at Dagoth's yell, now positive he was the real Dagoth; she feels the searing heat of the fireball as it passes overhead and tastes sand as she hits the ground.

Oh blazes; what do we do now? Loranna thinks, some of Dagoth's worry infecting her. Scatter so he can't target us all at once, stay together and try to blast him from the sky ... She rolls to her feet, eyes scanning for the enemy.

"Run!" Tris shouted. "The only one here capable of taking a lich is the other lich!"

He cast a spell on the group to increase their speed - and one on Loranna to cause her to reflect magic.

As Loranna jumped out of the way, Dagoth levitated in to where he could see his darker twin more easily.

'I'm gonna destroy you for even TRYING to do that...'

"Oh please... you would have done the same 500 years ago. You are very little different then you were then, so why help this mortal now?"

'You could never understand... I'm going to destroy you... leave Loranna out of this.'

"Aww... does the weakling have a weakness in the girl? Well then... I'll see how long your control lasts with her out of the way..."

The evil Dagoth launched a Dissolve Flesh spell at Loranna again, resulting in the real Dagoth moving in front of her to take the blow. 'I don't have flesh luckily.. so that didn't have too much of an effect...' He prepared a spell of his own...

Posted by: Teleran Feb 11 2005, 03:29 AM

Teleran hears Tris's call and decides that that would be a better use of his time than trying to hit a lich with a dagger it would probably shrug off. and ran after Reaichi and Eya towards the spider like statues and into the pyramid, away from and the liches.

Loranna looks to Dagoth, Tris's words burning in her ears.

Dagoth, good luck, she thinks. Don't worry about me; just take him out!

She starts running for the nearest available cover.

Posted by: Aki Feb 11 2005, 03:34 AM

Eya, and Camassim didn't run, instead they dropped everything of worth that was possible to be destroyed. "The way to kill a magick user is to close in on em and tear up..."

Eya and Camassim began to transform. Reichi stopped and pulled his ring off, joining in the transformation. Tohe joined with the other Werewolves and all four looked to the two liches.

While one may argue exposing themselves as Werewolves wasn't the smartest thing, most knew of Reichi's affliction, and the other's transformations couldn't have been too big of a surprise.

Besides, it wouldn't matter who they were if a lich incinerated them while running. Reichi wasn't a big fan of dying as a coward. Now it was a matter of finding the real Lich, and killing the fake.

The scent is the same, damn, complete copy indeed.

Dagoth's evil copy just moved out of the way, not caring who or what the spell hit.

Teleran threw himself flat as the werewolves ran past him to join the fray. Remembering the scroll that had been in the pack he pulled it out and turned to face th lich. He read the scroll, not fully understanding all of what he spoke, some of it seemed written in riddles, a fool way to make magic. As the last syllable left his lips the scroll burned away and a massive ball of fire flew from his fingers to the lich. That was more or less the extent of the magic he had at his disposal, He sent Nehtayem to take up position between those that had remained and the false Lich. Hopefully, he could intercept spells fired at them before they could harm anyone.

Dagoth looked at Tris, sending him a quick mental 'thanks', and looked back to his double, who was getting up from the floor after suffering the impact from that spell.

"Ughh... weakling. A few centuries ago you wouldn't have held back at all. Back then you were strong... your feelings make you weak. Let them go, and you can defy the gods..."

Dagoth had about enough of this. 'Leave... me... ALONE!!' He prepared another God's Fire spell, but his double got to him first... with the same spell Dagoth used on him last time.

The lich was on the ground from the blast, but was still able to get back up, just like his darker side. He was beyond reason right now, he just wanted to destroy the faker and silence his taunting.

The four Werewolves, having determined which lich was which, leapt at the copy of Dagoth. Even if the lich levitated, it would be hard to escape the range of the Werewolves' leap, esspecially when there were four, and two were good leapers before becoming Werewolves.

Despite her common sense telling her to stay inside, Loranna peers out the entrance, seeing Tris stop to help Dagoth and the two liches going at it.

... Is there anything I can actually do ... Loranna thinks to herself, her hands clenching into fists. If I go out and try to help by healing Dagoth, I just give the double a free shot at me, putting us both at risk. Still, the others are doing something ... and I'm in here ...

She had been growing more confident in herself as they had forged through the Vaults; even the moments of terror at being grabbed by the Leech Daedra were not enough to keep her from feeling that she was, finally, starting to get something right. Yet now, watching Dagoth fighting his double, she felt helpless again.

... And I didn't make this any easier on him, upsetting him before we came, she thinks, her eyes narrowing. Damn it ...

Dagoth notices the werewolves attacking his double, but acts like he doesn't care.

'They are just getting in my way... if they die in the next blast it's their fault.' He let loose another powerful spell, magicka visibly flowing around both himself and his double.

"Don't make this so hard on yourself... just forget them all... kill them if they weaken you so. Destroy what gets in your way. It's what you are... a monster. Just like me...'

Dagoth went into a maddened fury at this. 'I AM NOT LIKE YOU!!!!!!!!' He unleashed a spell with all the magicka in his reserves, destroying the double. But before it vanished, it managed to say one thing more. "You ARE like me... and you WILL give in soon...' And then it dissappeared, into a pile of ash.

Loranna comes out, her expression a mix of relief, worry, and chagrin.

She makes her way over to Dagoth and the werewolves, healing spells coming to mind without her really thinking about it. She looks at Dagoth with sorrowful eyes.

Team-killing fudgetard.... Reichi thought as the sblast barrled towards him ,he leapt away, followed by the others. Luckily, they escaped the blast. When the double of the lich was reduced to a pile of ash, all four looked at it, with an expression that suggested they were less than impressed.

Reichi then shook his hand at Dagoth, barking something that was probabally about him firing spells off while friends were in the way.

Dagoth's eyes sockets glowed with magical anger, but calmed down back to their normal appearance when he saw Loranna.

'I... I don't... know what... happened... can I really be like... no...'

He was rather shaken up from the experiance... fighting himself as he once was.

"Not so new a thing that." then added in his thoughts, 'I hope they have some plan for sating the bloodlust. Tohe has eaten, and Reichi can probably get away with just putting on his ring. What about the other two though?'

Teleran walked towards the wolves. He called Nehtayem back to his sheath, he had joined too late to do much anyway. "So Reichi, are you okay? Looks like you got quite a bit of the blast there."

She walks over to Dagoth and gently puts a hand on his shoulder, looking him in the eye sockets.

"You're not him," she says quietly. "You're more than he will ever be."

Teleran followed, he remembered the glint of gold he had seen through the the entrance and thought that there might be some more interesting loot in there. He could use a few daggers, or some healing scrolls, not that many of those would likely have survived the years.

He stayed back from the transformed wolves though, no matter the reassurances Reichi had given him. It was a hunt, and he did not want to find out that he was the only rabbit in the place.

During the dark, listless night, a shadowy shape can be seen, peering out through the fog, it appears to be the faint outline of the ship. On it, there appears to be a dark, shrouded figure, pacing slowly back and forth upon the deck. The only visible object, illuminated on his face, is a strange eye, which appears to be of dwarven design. It begins to flail wildly about, taking in all the sights and sounds of this strange, sleepless night. He slowly walks to his cabin, and before entering it, he pulls a lever on the wall, causing his ship to deploy it's sails. This strange figure then enters his cabin...

The Architect has set sail, set sail for Vvardenfel... and along with it, brings Judge, the shadowy figure who is it's architect, as well.

Yes, Judge,
who is a dwemer obsessive,
Dwarven eye possessive,
one who likes to trudge,
wherever there is a dwemer artifact,
and salvages all that he can find that is intact,
He is a sea ship captain,
And capable of building many contraptions,
to help aid him in hs quest to know,
all that the dwemer know,
and to put it to use in his thoughts.
He appears to be a breton,
Though there is very little written,
About who he is.
He appears to have black hair,
Though definitely not hair like a mare,
And a very sullen face,
Which everyone can misplace,
In their mind.
He owns a ship called the architect,
Which he uses to find,
All that the dwemer worked so hard to perfect.
He is a wizard of mechanics,
Which he uses rarely for other's antics,
And his weapons of choice are very unusual as well,
For they seem to behave very much like a bombshell,
they are gold, you see,
embued with the magic that is known to both you and to me,
Well, I believe that is all that I wish to tell you for now,
For that is all that he will allow,
a lowly little storyteller, such as me.

Eya and Camssim entered the pyramid first, followed by Tohe, and finally Reichi. The Werewolves began sniffing around, looking for food, while Reichi aproached the big headless and handless statue.

"Gold.." he mumbled. "Prolly fake though."

Posted by: Teleran Feb 11 2005, 05:44 AM

Teleran followed the wolves in and stared at the pillars, they gleamed. Then he looked at the statue, missing a head and a hand. THey had clearly been chopped off. "I wonder what did that." Teleran stated, "And who would have a statue of themselves down here?"

He walked over to the statue and inspected the cut that had taken off its hand, forgetting the golden pillars for now.

Loranna, having comforted Dagoth as best she can, reluctantly leaves the lich to collect his thoughts and to check on the others.

She re-enters the pyramid, noting Reichi and Teleran inspecting the statue. "What do you two make of it?" she asks.

"I don't know, somebody must not have liked it though, the cuts are pretty clean, definitely purposeful," Teleran said leaping up to perch on the statue's shoulder, "I wonder why they only took the hand and the head though, they could have really screwed it up if they wanted to, sliced through the stone easily enough."

Teleran climbed to sit on the neck, looking at the space across from the statue.

What about those spider statues though? she wonders to herself. I don't know much about Trinimiac but I'm pretty sure he wasn't connected to spiders ...

Summary-

Dante, with the group, searching the dungeon.

Illidan, somewhere.

Inzoliah, Brum, Merciander and friends, somewhere in the sea.
-----------------------

Dante watched as everyone began to do their thing, He crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, a long ways beneath the switch.

But, his curiosity eventually got the better of him, he retrieved a torch from the walls and strode casually out, away from the group.

At closer look, the human-shaped objects were, as they appeared, human. Or had been, long, long ago. They must have been naked, because there are not even the shards of clothing or equipment on them.

Dozens of dead giant spiders, now only husks, lay around the platform and in the webs. Also, dead long, long ago.

There is a chain attached the platform which is now visible from this angle.

"Hmm ... you know telekenesis to throw the switch form a safe distance?" she asks Tris. "Or pull on the chain?"

Dante heard Ciel's words, but disregarded them quickly, he assumed he was at a safe distance.

He held the torch far from his body as he began to sift through cobwebs, squinting as to get a better view.

"I'll flip it." Nalion offers, "I'll pull the trigger from as far away as my spell can cross. I think you should get as far away as possible from me and the button, though."

Nalion let the others a brief time to back away, then muttered a word, stretched out his hand and make a pushing gesture. With a creak, the switch flipped.

A hole in the floor directly beneath the platform opens up. (Any characters, I don't think there are any, who are standing there fall in)

Dante held his torch out in-front of himself, illuminating little to none of the room, mostly adding unnecessary light to the platform they were standing on.

Suddenly, his torch blew out, causing him to let out a soft yelp. Lacking common sense in the moment that this happened, he threw the torch away strongly, letting it sail down one of the web-formed tunnels. Creating a echoing effect.

Dante took the large beast to the chest, sending both of them sprawling into the centre of the platform. Dante fumbled around himself to try and draw his sword.

He noticed Tris diving towards it, and immeadietly gave up the idea of getting his weapon at a moment like this. He quickly latched onto two of the large creatures legs with his hands. Attemptig to throw it off of himself.

The first thing he noticed was that the spider had fangs longer than a good sized dagger. The second was that the resist poison spell had failed him. The spider's venom must be magical, containing elements which caused weakness to its own poison. The weight of the spider knocked him backward, where he continued to float, stabbing upward at its underbelly with numb fingers gripping his blade.

Despite his best effort, he couldn't seem to open his eyes.

"My dear child, look at me." The voice was that of Emaera, his confessor in the Dibellan temple in Cyrodiil. But when he looked up, it wasn't Emaera. At first she looked a little like his mother, from his earliest memories of her, radiant and pale and all too young, golden hair like a halo floating around her head. But as his vision cleared he saw that it was someone else entirely.

Though she was naked, her smooth limbs were more adorned by their own beauty than if they had been dripping with jewels and rich garments. To say she was a beautiful woman was to miss the sense of it. It was as if the most beautiful strain of music you ever heard, the most exquisite arabesque you ever saw carved in stone, the colors of the sea, and the delicacy of a flower and the richest perfume from Akavir had all taken on a female form. This was what they had all been striving for. She was perfect, so perfect that his first instinct was to throw up his hand to shield his eyes, lest they be blasted out of his face by her beauty. But these weren't the eyes he was used to. His eyes were fine.

"No broken vessel shall remain in the House of Dibella," she said, and instantly he felt a sensation that was at once wonderful and mundane. The phantom pain ceased in his right leg, and he curled the toes of his right foot.

"Oh," Tris said. "Oh. I see."

The goddess smiled. With every passing moment she became more beautiful. Or perhaps it was simply that his own ability to perceive beauty was increasing.

"I have to go back," Tris said. "I'm needed."

It couldn't be said that the goddess frowned, nor that any chill passed across the eternal summer of her face. But he saw at once that beauty could be severe, as well as welcoming.

"Am I not beautiful enough to fulfill all your desires?" she said.

He felt that if he said the wrong thing, he might simply cease to exist. At the very least he would be forever barred from the paradise of her presence.

"It must be me," he said. "I can't see you properly."

She laughed, and her laughter was the most beautiful thing that had happened yet. "There is a beauty greater than Beauty," she said. "Fare thee well, my child."

She leaned forward with her lips pursed, and he thought she would kiss him. But instead she blew out her breath, and the sweet warmth struck him in the face so that he took a sharp breath. Had he not been breathing before? At the same time, her breath was pushing him away, as if she were the only real thing and he were made of paper. Her breath pushed him all the way back into darkness and pain.

He thought for a moment that the goddess was crying, but it was only Loranna with her tear-streaks bending over him, healing magic flowing from her hands.

Nalion is hard pressed to keep up his defense while casting attack spells, but manages to fire a searing blast directly into the "face" of the spider, penetrating its chitinous armour. With a final hiss, the spider falls on its back, legs wrinkling.

Dante looked to Nalion a brief moment, then back at Loranna "I'm fine, as far I can see..." He stated flatly. Rubbing his gauntleted hand up and down his arms, as to try and find any noticeable wounds.

"I'm still betting the way out is down there," he said. "From the looks of the smoke, the whole place went right up in flames."

Wisps of smoke could still be seen curling up from the cracks between the stone plates that covered the shaft below.

" ... All right," she says to Dante. "You were lucky, then, thank goodness."

Turning to Tris, she says "Well, for once us setting the house on fire was a good thing. Might as well go and look, soon as everyone's got their wind back."

Nalion investigates a small cut on his thigh that he recieved from the spider and makes sure there is no venom or else in the wound.
"No, thank you Loranna. I'll be fine." he answeres. He puts his palm over the cut and a blue light can be seen between his fingers. As he removes the hands, the cut is gone, the tear in his clothing remained though.

They nodded and he pulled the switch once more, this time without the telekinesis.
"Down we go." the mage said and the familiar sphere of light appeared once more over his palm.

Ciel looked down from the edge of the platform. His face had returned to its normal composure.

"It appears we shall," he said quietly.

Posted by: Rhedd Feb 11 2005, 10:44 AM

With a clunk, the platform once again descended. The smoke from the burning webs that lingered in the shaft smelled almost spicy.

Below, the webs had burned away to reveal a surprisingly large and open, natural cave. Here and there, the charred remains of yet more spiders could be seen, and there were a couple of horse-sized monsters that had been badly burned, but still moved, trying unsuccessfully with two or three remaining legs to drag their bulbous bodies away from the intruders and into some dark crevasse.

At the far end of the cave, there was an ornate stone doorway.

Past the doorway was an abyss.

Five seconds later, it was an ornate hall, then an abyss again, then again, and abyss, then an ornate hall.

Tris shot a couple of lighting bolts towards the wounded spiders, which squealed and flipped upside down, dead.

"I know I need the rest," he said. His emotions were still too near the surface. Even the charred corpses of spiders looked beautiful to him right now. He wanted to kiss Loranna. And Ciel - all of the creases of his weathered face were thrown into relief by the torchlight, and by the soot which had settled on them all. Ciel was the most beautiful thing in the world.

There was no privacy here to say a thing like that. But Tris smiled at anyone and everyone, as they settled in to rest for a while.

Posted by: w0nders Feb 11 2005, 03:09 PM

Once the group had began to relax, Dante took it upon himself to search out the room. Making sure that all the spiders were infact, dead.

Unfortunately, this basically involved of him dawdling around the cave prodding charred spiders with his sword. Eventually however, he returned to where the group was and began to relax again, which with the current circumstances, wasn't the best idea.

5 planks of wood, somewhere at sea-

"Hey...I think I see land!" Murmered a cultist tiredly, pointing a weary finger towards an island not too far in the distance.

"Y'know, I think he's right..." Brum muttered, sounding half dead, most of the colour in his face had faded, giving him a rather 'skeletal' look.

"Well, we might aswell give it a look..." Ordered Inzoliah, and the five of them began paddling their way towards the small island, the only thing note-worthy of it was that it had a ridiculously large tree in the centre.

"So we shall be staying here for a while," Erenius mumbles, setting his pack down, preparing a fire, and setting out his spare supplies.

The chain rattled as Reichi slid down it, followed by the other Werewolves. Seeing the corpes, Camassim and Eya whined and then wandered around the cavern, looking for any passage where some prey could be found. Holding off the hunger was getting harder now, so they began feasting on the muscle of the charred spider corpses, avoiding the organs of the arcanoids, not knowing what poison they could contain.

Reichi watched with mild disgust. If there was one thing he couldn't stand, it was spiders, and the thought eating one made him want to puke. "Yuck..." he murmered.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 12 2005, 12:42 AM

Teleran leapt down the chasm after the platform and saw the werewolves eating the spider corpses, 'Oh good, they've found something to kill,' he thought to himself, 'but did it have to be that?'

Posted by: Loranna Feb 12 2005, 05:25 AM

Later ...

Despite the dangers that probably still lurked around them, the party managed to find some rest - just enough to feel almost ready for whatever lay ahead, and to realize just how precious a warm, soft bed really is.

Loranna wakes, as usual, gasping for breath as though she were trying to reinflate her lungs. With a subdued grunt, she rubs her head and fumbles for her pack, and some rations.

"I could use another day or so of sleep," she decides as she munches on her tack, looking around to see who else is up.

Posted by: Tricrux Feb 12 2005, 05:32 AM

Even before Loranna had woken, Night-Scar had felt the crown and scar heat up. There had been a bright flash, and he had disappeared.

Far away, Celeste continued to be a minor Azurite, but was insignificant, at least for a while.

Reichi was up, the other werewolves however, were sleeping. They were human once again, though how long ago they had returned was impossible to tell. Reichi looked at Loranna, then went back to using a smooth stone to sharpen his blade.

Reichi mumbled under his breath about spider constantly, obviously what he was doing was to distract him from the spider corpses. Though they were dead, he hated spiders, esspecially big ones. These were the size of horses.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 12 2005, 05:52 AM

Teleran woke with a start snapping into a crouch dagger drawn almost as soon as his eyes opened. He looked around, the spiders now mostly consumed, the camp was stirring. His sleep had been peculiarly unrestful. He yawned and dug through his pack for a restore fatigue potion. No such luck, he must have used them all already. Sighing he resheathed his dagger and looked around camp.

You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry:

Running, running, running.

Everytime stuff like this happened, Keffe-Zel always had to run away. But it wasn't his fault. The First Guard soldier shouldn't have been taunting him with his spear. He shouldn't have made Keffe-Zel angry. He shouldn't have forced Keffe-Zel to ram a halberd up the First Guardsman's tail.

But as the Argonian ran through the Marsh with the ease only he had learned, he smiled. He wasn't a fugitive - his connections with the Fighter's Guild would take care of that, with only the cost of a few jobs - and he even acquired a shiny new set of armor. Wiping the helmet to a shine as he stopped, Keffe-Zel put the armor away in his pack and donned his steel helmet. He then looked about at his location.

He was in the middle of nowhere, obviously. He was already in the middle of nowhere when the First Guardsman made him angry. But now he was seriously in the middle of nowhere. To his right was a smelly old cavern or tomb or something, but he didn't want to go in there. Still...

Behind him, the shouts of Argonian troopers finalized his decision. Looking back briefly, he pulled out the two halves of a steel-shafted spear with an adamantium head - a keepsake from his father's father's father. He put the two halves together, and what little magic that was in the spear fused the weapon together. Gripping the weapon casually in both hands, he stepped inside.

Journal of Tris Gaerington, 12th Sun's Dawn:

To the adventurer who finds this journal on my dead body:

Nah. I feel pretty optimistic for a guy who just died. It's such a cliche though, writing a journal in a dungeon. I guess I can take comfort in the fact that I'm not leaving a single clue for the person following me.

Hope to make it back to Black Marsh so I can live out my fantasy of making love underwater using a water breathing potion. Wonder if I can manage, or if the whole breathing water bit will make me too nervous. I have dreams sometimes about breathing water and they always wake me up - heartrate gets too high.

Ciel talked about wanting to go to Blacklight. Take the battle to the Azurites instead of waiting. He's so reasoned, so reasonable, yet he has this aggressive streak which can surprise you.

Longer than I've ever been with one person before. Keep waiting for the restlessness to set in. Part of it's the leg - haven't felt like showing off for anybody - but I could have had that one Dunmer lad at Jazbet's place. And then what?

Thinking about Bryn, who taught me alchemy, drinking poison - carefully measured, just enough to make a point without killing himself - all our friends shaking their heads, not taking sides. Dom, Domnar the Invincible, the heartless duellist - I made him cry. And he's dead now. Sobering thought. Dom so angry he couldn't stand upright, shaking like an old man with palsy - 'I'll kill you, you wretch!' And I laughed in his face. But, see, I knew something he didn't know. Knew what a joke it was to love a pane of glass. A mirror looks like something, like you can reach into it, but it's all surface. Touch it and you'll know.

Wonder where Dom is now. In Mehrunes Dagon's sphere, where all the hundreds he killed in duels devour his liver forever. Dear gods I hope not. He was religious in his way. We stopped at every Benefice to offer coin to Mara, who brings men into the world and takes them out of it. Asleep in her lap, maybe. Picture him in a green meadow, sleeping. Would his scars disappear? What would he even look like without them?

Thought I'd miss my foot more after having it back for a moment. But what I really want back is my name. Dreamed - just now - of Elysana. Of popping in from the Void to kiss her and laughing at the look on her face. Delicious dream. Why can't I be more frightened?

Leseth, if you're reading this, kill me in my sleep, in his arms. Both of us at one blow. I could accept that. Could Ciel? No. Probably not. He wants to be part of history still, to see it and shape it, and so I can't give up either. I'm braver now because I feel his eyes on me. I believe in the impossible. Queen Elysana will welcome us back with a parade. Leseth will retire to a farmstead in Colovia. And that spooky child, Bosriel, can raise a toast a New Life with us, in wine, not blood.

Herwyn Brand was well-aware that one did not simply go up to the Queen at a party and drag her off by one elbow, but the news he had to tell her was rather urgent, and Lord Featherston simply would not leave her Majesty alone.

Herwyn took a deep breath and approached them.

"Forgive the interruption, your Majesty," he said, bowing to the Queen.

"Lord Featherston, there seems to be some concern about your wife, my Lord," he said with a serious expression.

"Oh? What of my wife... Battlemage?"

"Well, my Lord, she was last seen going into the garden with Sir Lindford, but she cannot now be found. I hate to trouble your Lordship with this, but Lady Am..."

"Excuse me, your Majesty," the red-faced man said, quickly taking his leave and rushing toward the garden door.

"Your Majesty," Herwyn explained, quietly and behind a sociable smile, "there is a plot afoot to kill Lord Veric Retenne, your Majesty's Ambassador to Orsinium, at this very party. I thought your Majesty should know.

"The plan, as I have it, is to hang Lord Retenne from the Grand Arch, then stab him repeatedly so that his blood rains down on your Majesty and the guests. This, supposedly, shall make us more aware of the strength of Orsinium's convictions concerning the border disputes," he said with a raised eyebrow.

"Regardless of it's effectiveness as a diplomatic maneuver, the scheme is carefully planned. I fear that it will succeed if nothing is done."

Loranna walks up to the arch, a septim in her hand.   She watches the shifting rooms, counting off the seconds in her head and poising to dash.

" ... three four five ..." she chants.  " One two three four ... FIVE!"  She pushes off on her foot and dashes through the archway to bolt into the ornate hall.

"Phew," she says, laying the coin in the middle of the archway.  "Okay, here we are."

An unidentifiable sound echoed from futher down the hallway, and there was a smell, too, different from the standard stench of the dungeon, penetrating into the party member's nostrils.

Loranna's face screws up into a vaguely mystified expression. "What's that?" she mutters, metally preparing her defensive spells.

"First order of business," Tris said. He raised his hands and cast a light spell down the hallway in front of them.

Teleran takes the potion offered to him by Loranna and drinks it, feeling energy return to him, not as much as a full nights rest, but he wouldn't have gotten that anyway, not in this place. Teleran followed the rest of the party into the hallway.

The length of the hall that was illuminated by the light spell was filled with dead adventurers. A selection of every race, at different levels of composition, some barely green, others mere skeletons, and every step in between. They were each adorned with various types of weapons, clothing, and armor.

They were groaning, and they stank.

They were on their knees, bowing, heads facing further down the hallway.

Loranna's eyes widen.

"Tris, do you know the spells for repelling the dead?" she asks quietly. "I only know a real basic one, and it's more for singles, not groups ..."

"Um, no I don't," Tris said. "I'm more of your basic Breton with a childhood spent avoiding the town guard."

He spoke very quickly, and not very loudly.

"The question in my mind is, what are they worshipping?"

Posted by: Dumbkid Feb 13 2005, 04:05 AM

The corpses continued to moan and bow, paying no heed to the party.

It was as if they were oblivious to the presence of the living.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 13 2005, 04:08 AM

"To turn the dead turn them deader," Teleran said drawing his daggers. "They probably worship the one who didn't like the statue guy in the pyramid. Probably a damn necromancer. Lousy s'wit."

Teleran kicked the nearest groaning corpse.

Dante watched breathlessly, he hoped that the zombie creatures kept this state of mind whilst they were trying to get past them.

Never the less, he drew his sword and waited.

Teleran gasped for air, "Oh, that smells horrible! Even worse than this room," Teleran rasped as he started coughing uncontrollably. He fished out a potion of cure disease and put it in a more accessible position. He didn't want to come down with a disease in this place.

"Ignore this! How would you feel if you were stuck like them for eternity? Wouldn't you want to get out of it somehow!?!"

" ... Well, if I knew my body were being used to do stuff like that, I'd want it to be put to rest yeah," she concurs. "But chances are, whatever they're worshipping lies ahead, and who knows? Maybe we'll end up having to break its power somehow, and then they'll be freed all at once - without us having to fight them, to boot."

She points to the ceiling. "Those of us who can levitate can pretty much crawl on the ceiling and avoid everything except those few spears and halberds I see. We can either do that or else just try walking past them."

Dante slowly creeps up next to the corpse closest to him, he then dropped to his knees and began bowing and groaning...poorly.

Every few seconds he would move forward a few corpses and repeat the process, trying to seem as dead as possible.

Further down the hall were row upon row of corpses, at the farthest point, beyond which Tris could not see, was what appeared to be a throne, and something--skeletal--was seated on it and to one side was a container of some sort, though it was too far away to know anymore.

Dante continued moving up and bowing, so far his plan seemed full proof....so far.

He moved up two more corpses and the faint shape of a throne was visible, although he couldn't tell what was in it he knew that that was where he was headed.

In the dim light Dante was able to barely make out a skeleton seated on the throne. A ring of phalanges tied together with yarn wreathed his skull like a crown. Beside him was a jar filled with eyes and a strange preserving fluid. The skeleton reached over and wrapped his bony fingers around one eyeball, and pulled it out. He brought it up to his mouth and bit off a peice, bits of eyeball and juice spilt down the inside of his ribs, splattering against the bones.

Dante bit into his hand and let out a low muffled scream of sickening proportions, luckily it was muffled quite effectively.

He move up more and more, still trying to hide the fact that he was alive, and intensely disgusted. He now found himself a little too close for comfort.

The skeleton takes another bite out of the eye, his teeth tear apart the material, and bits of eye and liquid tumble down his ribcage.

He suddenly hurls what's left of the eye towards Dante.

Teleran strode through the corpses, smacking aside those that were in his way with the flat of his spear. His gauntlet shot out to smash the jar of eyes.

The Werewolves look at the other for a moment, then rush through the dead, jumping on the dead they couldn't run around. All four drew their weapons, the key to killing all magick users was closing in a tearing them to shreds.

The eye sailed through the air and bonked Dante on the head, falling to the ground infront of him. He picked it up sheepishly and stared at it for a long moment.

Looking back up at the skeletal figure he smiled, then began to 'play' eat it, by just holding it up to his lips and mumbling "num nummy, this is pretty good..." He awaited the skeletons response.
