The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Blue Dawn

Posted by: Loranna Feb 9 2005, 08:02 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.

Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna:

Loranna is at the Vaults of Gemin, looking into the first puzzle the dungeon has to offer - namely, a chamber which keeps changing what room it is every few seconds. She is watching the timing and preparing to enter.

Marein Night-Scar is trapped in one of the many changing rooms, trying to get the others into the same room.

Count Sternhart, Tris's father, is in conversation with Queen Elysana at a banquet. His young pregnant wife Ymalna is with him.

Doll is at Jazbet's castle.

Dragon, Skein, and Tamne the Azurite girl are at Solunastra, the Void Ranger Guild House in Daggerfall.

QUOTE(Arynel @ Feb 9 2005, 12:45 AM)

“You hum when you sew, I have seen it.”  Arynel said to Allerleirauh.  “There is a magic in music, I think, easily missed, a pity it so often is.”

The Breton's changed expression, “Why did he stay where he was, in a place no one could touch?”

*

Jazbet's Castle

"He was almost dead, at the very last," Allerleirauh said. "Not as Almalexia was, from grief at the great loss, but from fear. Fear is the worst thing, for one like him. He didn't want to be punished for his sins and so he hid, and hiding, he cut himself off from the mortal congress that was his bread and breath. He had all but forgotten who he was, when I went before him on my knees. I thought he would... I was afraid of him. But he touched me with a blizzard of words. And then he woke like fire. When I went to him again he called me "Mortal!" with a voice like - a voice like the voice you heard in the deep, once, though you will not remember that. And then he came back alive, piece by piece, with pain and trembling and laughter. And he took back his mortal failings, and now he has gone where I do not intend to follow him. Oh, Arynel - I miss him, with all my body and all my soul."

Update

Jazbet, the blind, precognitive Khajiit Knight of House Dres is in his estate on mainland Morrowind. He saw a vision of the Flamekiss jewel which the adventurers are now searching for in the Vaults of Gemin in Black Marsh.

In his vision, if they do not find it, all are doomed.

Bosriel, the Void Vampire, is with Leseth.

Elysana, the Queen of Wayrest, is finally at home. She is attending a banquet in her new palace, the Dome of Wayrest, and is currently speaking to Count Sternhart about his son, Tris. A very troublesome lad, who Elysana had thought she had ordered assassinated quite some time ago.

Summary-

Dante, is with the main group, making the atmosphere dense with ignorance.

Illidan, seriously.....

Brum, Inzoliah, Merciander and friends, I dunno, but their toes are beggining to wrinkle.
----------------

Dante eyed the ever-shifting rooms curiously, then, to break the silence he spoke up. "Perhaps, it isn't an ever shifting room, but...shifting dimensions...?"

Wayrest, High Rock

QUOTE(Allerleirauh @ Feb 9 2005, 01:56 AM)

"Your majesty," Count Sternhart said, bowing over her hand. "It's good to see you safe in the bosom of your country again. Let me apologize again for my importunity in writing to you. My family matters have been driving me to distraction. Think of my boy, out there somewhere, afraid to come home because of his father's foolish temper. He's still a child, you know, barely nineteen. Ah - forgive me. You see I babble of my own troubles. How is your majesty's family?"

*

"Oh, they're cross with me for leaving them alone for so long," Elysana smiled sweetly. "There is no joy like the joy of a loving family, is there? I would love to see you reunited with your boy as well, and see the look in his eye when you embrace him. I remember him well ..."

Posted by: Teleran Feb 9 2005, 08:17 AM

Teleran is with the main party right outside the Vaults of Gemin.

Looking first at Dante then to the shifting space in front of him Teleran draws a silver dagger and throws it into the room on the other side, it floats in midair for a few seconds before the room shifts.

"I lost it," Teleran states dumbly, "I can't keep a hold on it anymore, I don't know where it is. I don't know about different dimensions Dante, but it sure isn't just a spinning room."

Tris stared fixedly at the shifting corridor. He was certain of one thing - if he was going to be trapped forever, wandering a dungeon, he wasn't going to be alone if he could help it.

"We should try to join Night-Scar," he said. "Although who knows if the path he took is the right path."

Posted by: Attrebus Feb 9 2005, 08:33 AM

"Right or wrong, we should stay together. Splitting up would be folly." said Jaster. "Atleast the intervals are consistant." He added with a slight grin.

Wayrest:

Count Sternhart smiled. Curiously, when he smiled, the corners of his mouth drew down even more than usual.

"He was always impulsive," he said. "I had hoped, on his eighteenth birthday, to give him his own ship and see if it would steady him. His mother's people, you know, had Nordic blood. But he ran away from me before I could. I thought I'd heard the last of him, and all my remaining hopes rested on my second son, Oro - as unlike him as a child can be - Tris was always his mother's son, and Oro is mine."

A coughing fit interrupted him. He waved his wife, and her handkerchief, away, and continued.

"I wonder why the lad never touched his money until a month ago in Wayrest. He must have been gravely wounded, for spending money was always one of his favorite pastimes. Nothing for three years, then a month ago he entirely empties his account at one go. Well, time and suffering can change a man - it will be interesting to see what he's made of himself. My old grievances don't seem the same somehow, with death staring me in the face."

"You have years left, my lord," the Queen smiled, touching her necklace. "You have an instinct for survival which it seems your boy has too. And you are wise to put your faith in Oro. He is a conscientious, frugal, and loyal son."

He began to search the new room...

*

By pure, wonderful luck, the first thing Dante noticed in the new room was Night-Scar. It could, just as easily, have been a bottomless pit.

The room was simple enough; tall, heavy pillars were worked into the stone at the corners, and there was a deep, round hole in the center that smelled of mildew. The hole seemed to be the only way to continue.

The hall where the Ciel and the others stood seemed perfectly stable to those in the room, and one could simply walk back out into the hall and out of the Vault.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 9 2005, 09:22 AM

Teleran jumped through the gateway that Dante had, before it changed to another hallway. He rolled and came up to the right of Dante and looked back the direction he had come. "It looks much more ...reassuring from this side, not so much movement."

Teleran breathed a sigh, they wouldn't be trapped forever in this place, wherever it really was.

Wayrest:

"Your majesty, you already know that all my resources are at your disposal," Count Sternhart said. "If you can help me solve this particular problem, you will have my everlasting gratitude. I have given you all the information I have - but I can put your people in touch with the boy's friends, and with my Hammerfell agent."

He lowered his voice. "The lad is also a devotee of Dibella; it may be he turned to them for help."

The cult of Dibella, although she was one of the Eight Divines, was regarded as not exactly respectable in certain circles in Wayrest.

"It's essential that I find him," he said. "He is, after all, my heir - it wouldn't do for the House business to fall into the hands of one entirely unprepared for it."

The old man played his hand close to his chest. Nothing about his tone of voice or his expression indicated to any bystanders anything more than a businessman's concern for his business and a father's concern for his son. The undertext, however, was a little darker. The old man was furious. All that he had built, all that he had worked for, might be snatched from him at the last by a fluke of fate. Elysana could read the message clearly in veins of his forehead and the deepset grey eyes.

Find him. I don't care if you kill him.

"It's a hard world for foolish boys," The Queen nodded with a wide smile. "If I need any further information, I will be in touch with you. Please, eat, drink, enjoy yourselves."

It changed nothing. She knew she had to find a new spymaster to replace Ryvad Castellian. Now Elysana had a first assignment for him or her.

Teleran yelled at those who were still outside before realizing that Night-Scar had probably already tried that, and since it had remained shifting after he had entered it was probably still shifting now. He walked to just short of where he thought that the hall had been shifting. He pulled out another dagger and stuck it through where he assumed the shifts occurred, he used his left 'arm,' no reason to lose fingers on his good hand if it got caught in a shift, 'I'm gonna run out of these if I keep doing this.'

He hoped that it would stabilize the hall on both sides if something was emerging.

From the other side, however, things looked a little different. The sequence of different hallways stopped, and Tris could see through into the room where Teleran was.

"Let's try something," Tris said. He laid a coin on the ground, exactly one half on one side of the divide and one half on the other. "Now draw your arm back."

As Teleran withdrew his arm, absolutely nothing happened... neither in the room or in the hall. It was just a perfectly normal hall opening onto a perfectly normal room.

'What? You can see me now? Well that's good. Alright," Teleran said, then he waited for the coin to be placed before pulling his arm back. Judging from the placement of the coin, he had misjudged where the shift was by about a foot. 'At least it wasn't a foot the other way, then they wouldn't have seen a thing.'

"Well, can you see me?" Teleran asked a few seconds later.

He resisted the impulse to hold Ciel's hand, but stepped through with him at the exact same moment.

Arynel listened to Allerleirauh speak, nodding his head from time to time. At last, once she had said the whole of it to it's completion, he frowned and shook his head. The Breton said nothing, and returned to his thoughts.

*Erenius walks towards the entranceway, and enters, before sitting down besides a door, awaiting it to open*

'The first test...' Erenius thinks. 'A test of patience.'

*The door opens after almost an hour of waiting and Erenius steps inside, as he looks around at the first room, full of various jewels and a very long corridor*

"Hmm...a test of speed, or stamina?" Erenius asks, realizing his goal was to go along the hallway.

*Without much thought, Erenius puts his pack on and starts down the hall. He continues for several minutes, going in a downward spiral it seems, despite the hall's deceptive appearance of being a simple straight hallway*

"So, its a test of stamina then..." Erenius says, slowing his pace slightly, yet keeping the new speed steadier than his previous movements.

*The hall then turns upside down, dumping Erenius on what was the ceiling*

"An ingenious way of keeping people away from the end of the hallway, especially if they had a heavy pack like mine..." Erenius muses, realizing he still had a single potion of levitate that should last for nigh an hour before dropping him to the ground.

"Ha! A test of cunning, not speed or stamina," Erenius says, gulping the potion, and floating towards what was the floor, moving towards a door at the far end, now easier to see.

Night-Scar sighed in relief at the entrance of the others.

"Brilliant job, Tris, Teleran," he smiled. Then he exhaled sharply. "Well then. Shall we continue?"

He looked around the room curiously. It seemed lighter than it had before, for some reason. The light source was from behind him. He turned around to see who was providing it, but as he turned the light came around behind. He craned his neck around sharply, concerned. There was nobody behind him.

The marks on his back were glowing...

"That can't be good," he murmured. "That they glow is strange. But that the glow can shine through my robe is absurd..."

His eyes cast onto a circlet wrought beautifully of ebony, with Daedric refinement. It lay in the hands of a simple statue, which was stone and gray and small.

Obviously a trap. He recovered the stone he had thrown earlier and threw it towards the statue. Nothing happened. That was a good sign, anyway. Slowly he stepped forward to take the circlet. He didn't know why, but he felt drawn to it.

As it touched his hand, a pit opened up in the ground. Moving without thinking, Night-Scar wrapped his arms around the statue's outstrethced hands and held on.

"A little help here, maybe?" he asked.

The circlet slipped from his grasp. Instinctively he reached down to grab it. His grip on the statue weakened. He put the circlet on his head for safekeeping, and threw his hanging arm back upward.

"Pull me up, quick!" he cried.

Even as he said it, he felt a strange feeling wash over him...

*Erenius reached the end of the corridor, and looked back, finding it as he found it originally, a long hallway going straight across*

"Probably best to go back and get some help," Erenius says, tired as he makes his way back uneventfully, leaving through the Door of Patience then through a seperate door, back to where he was originally.

"Odd..." Erenius mumbles, realizing that the gate had shifted to such a point where he saw the others inside. "I thought I enterred elsewhere."

*Slightly confused, Erenius steps through the doorway again and then takes a fall, dropping several feet before standing up, dust covered, behind everyone else*

"Apologies, for being rather late...your door wasnt working for a moment, and it dropped me elsewhere," Erenius explains, suprised at the turn of events.

Posted by: Nalion Feb 9 2005, 11:16 PM

OOC: Here's a little re-posting of Nalion's background:
Nalion Leoriane is a Breton mage of 35 years. He has spent most of his years wandering. Roughly two years ago he joined Great House Telvanni. Then a longing for another trip, this time into Skyrim, got hold of him, which led him directly into a party who's actions on Nirn are now quite well known (aka Trail of Frozen Tears, Senses RP, Evening Star / Morning Star Parade).
During this, he was expelled from House Telvanni and solved some issues (but not exactly all) of his past. His most prized possession is a dagger, which seems to enhance his senses when touched. He is currently trying to adapt this ability so he can use it without touching, so far with only little progress. He is currently near the party at the Vaults of Gemin.

"What?" Nalion woke with a start, then looked around. He had been sitting in one of the rafts as they began the trip to these Vaults, but then, sleepiness had engulfed him. He did not see any member of the group, but the gate to the vault stood widely open.
Nalion slowly approached the entrance. Darkness seemed to emanate from the cavern. Nalion felt like if he could actually touch it. A mouldy smell was everywhere, part from the swamp, part from something different, indistinguishable.
The mage shuddered.
"Darkness is but the absence of light." he muttered under his breath. He straightened, then whispered a spell. A small, but brightly glowing sphere appeared above his left hand, giving off a white-blue light.
Then, he stepped into the vault and moved forward, deeper into the dungeon, intently listening for the voices of his companions.

Summary
Reichi, tohe, Camssim, and Eya have entered the Vaults of Genim with the rest of the party.
-------------------------------------

The four looked around the room they had entered from the door, it was a side room off of the one Tris and the others had gone through before, they were seperated from the rest of the party. In the center of the room was a massive stone coffin, and the rest of the chamber was littered with items.

The lid of the coffin began to open, slidding off with a the sound of stone grinding against stone. Dust stirred from its resting place, the lid hit the ground with a bang and Reichi, tohe, eya, and Camassim turned to look at the disturbance.

A skeletal hand reached out and curled its boney fingers on the edge of the coffin, preparing to rise.

Posted by: Aki Feb 10 2005, 03:47 AM

The owner of the skeletal hands rose from his Coffin and looked at the living beings, the mortals, that had entered his room. The thing had been an argonian, but now it was but a skeleton of one. "Heh, come for my treasures...you shall not have them...." it said, gesturing to the items lying around the room. It began weaving a spell. Reichi jumped at it and struck, just in time to be blown back by a fire spell.

Reichi slammed into another side of the room, into a pile of junk, with a clatter. Reichi cursed, he wasn't injured, dunmer resisted fire well, but his Chitin chestplate was burning, and it stank, badly.

Camassim was next to try his luck, his mace scored a hit on the Argonian's already brittle tail and it collasped, the Argonian shrieked and leapt away, casting shock spells at Camassim. Several connected and Camassim was forced to the ground. His hair frazzled by the electricty.

The Argonian lich seemed to grow annoyed at the ineffective spells and began casting something that looked nasty. As he uttered the final word, a heavy boot connected with his skeletal jaw, and it shattered. The spell caught Eya in the radius, and she collasped, weakened by the spell.

The lich was now more than annoyed. He began blanketing the area with spells of varying types as he levitated and the others hid. The Treasures of the Argonian Lich began to detoriate rapidly.

"So, whats the plan?" Reichi asked, his chestplate had been extinguished by a ice spell. Him and Eya were hiding behind a large broken mirror.

"Well, if that big ole' statue hadn't fallen in front of the door we came in, i'd say run...." Eya said.

Hearing a yell Teleran ran through the darkened corridors, the small amount of night-eye afforded by the potion ahrdly allowing him to see what lay a few feet ahead of him. As he entered a room that became less of a problem, though the hole in the middle of it was rather jarring. The eerie glow filled the room. Teleran looked down the hole to see Night-Scar clinging to the side.

"Fancy yourself a king huh?" Teleran remarked at the circlet, "If you will allow it I can lift you up, if not then it will be more difficult. Teleran extended his thoughts towards Night-Scar and wrapped him in threads of telekinetic power. "If you try to resist this I will throw you the rest of the way down." Teleran pulled up. He looked for an alternate method to pull Marein up if he could not release himself to Teleran's abilities. Though it may have been better to give him no warning at all, people tended not to resist unless they knew they could.

A crashing sound came from behind Teleran, it sounded like it was off the last fork he run past, left instead of right. "I hope that's not a bloody cave-in," he muttered to himself. He would have to look into that as soon as Night-Scar was up. Nehtayem and the iron dagger flicked out of their sheathes and started orbiting Teleran.

Posted by: Tricrux Feb 10 2005, 04:21 AM

In classic fashion, Night-Scar said, "Pull me."

And he let go of the statue, falling limp.

Posted by: Teleran Feb 10 2005, 04:38 AM

'At least he's not resisting,' Teleran thought, 'but what if he had a natural aversion to having magic move him. Letting go of that staue was a good way to get himself killed.' Teleran pulled him rather roughly from the hole and set him down slightly too hard. Then, staring slightly at the glowing of Night-Scar's back, he said, "Gonna have to change your name to Sun-Scar."

Teleran sprinted out of the room when he was sure that Night-Scar wasn't going to fall in again, unless he decided to throw himself in, in which case Teleran would leave him to it. 'I hope I'm not going to spend the whole of this place saving people from holes,' Teleran thought as he came upon an obstruction, a large statue was in the way. Teleran called Nehtayem to hand and threw it into the statue, which it cut through as though it were not there. The iron dagger followed through the hole it left. 'Tell me what you see, and don't kill anyone unless I tell you to.'

'Fine, but there's a lot of magic raining down in here. Looks like a skeleton, lich maybe.'

'Anyone else in there?'

'Your werewolves, the ones you wouldn't let me take. They are cowering. Scaredy cat mutts.'

'Can you take down the lich?'

'Probably not. Why? You want to give me a shot?'

'No, just give me a trajectory on the lich. Let's see if I can hit it with this statue, well this piece of it anyway.' Teleran prepared to throw part of the statue.

Reichi stared at the floating daggers, then looke dto Eya, who shrugged weakly, the spell still affecting her. The lich cursed in Argonian as Tohe's saber flew into it's leg and damaged it. The Saber clattered to the ground as the Lich looked in the direction it had flew.

The Lich shot several shots off at Tohe as he retreated back to cover. The Lich then seemed to notice the floating daggers. It cocked it's head to the side in curiosity, before unleashing a massive fireball in the direction of the Statue. Reichi grabbed Eya and sprinted away, not wanting to be caught in the blast.

Teleran lifted the statue and sent it hurtling towards where the dagger had relayed that the Lich floated. It came up was on course when an explosion egulfed it and sent Teleran flying backwards down the hall. He looked up into the air still seeing the after image of the brilliant flash incinerating stone in mere moments. The image still playing across his eyes Teleran leapt back to his feet and called on Nehtayem and the Voiced One to shred the lich. The skeletal face seemed to be grinning at him as Teleran stared through the empty space where rock had met magick.

Teleran pulled his spear into a ready position. He should have left when he had the chance.

Loranna comes running to the sound of the commotion.

Seeing Reighi carrying Eya off, Loranna follows, her hands raised. "Reichi, leave her with me; I'll heal her. You go help the others stop that guy ..."

Posted by: Nalion Feb 10 2005, 05:06 AM

The sound of spells being cast could now be clearly heard a short way in front of Nalion. Lights flickered ahead.
The Breton mage quickened his step, but still moving carefully. A coin lying on the ground was passed unnoticed. Nalion saw Teleran and others standing in front of a blocked entrance. From behind the door, he heard heavy spellcasting.

Then, with a deafening sound, the statue that had blocked the entrance was blown to pieces.
Nalion luckily was well away from the blast radius, but closed the distance quickly.
He now saw what had caused all that magick... a lich.

A fireball appeared in the mages right hand and with a sizzling sound made its way towards the lich.

Posted by: Tricrux Feb 10 2005, 05:07 AM

Night-Scar dashed in behind Teleran. Things looked ugly. Frowning, he prepared to fight.

The circlet on his head was feeling very hot. He tried to take it off, but it was stuck. The marks on his back, too, were glowing more brightly and powerfully than before.

The circlet discharged a massive amount of shock energy from its jewel into the lich, which was blown backwards like a rag doll.

Night-Scar jumped in surprise.

"What just happenned?"

Frantically he pulled at the circlet but it would not come off...

Camassim and Tohe ermerged from the remains of wwhat had been a bunch of crates. "Well, for a lich, that wasn't all that hard..." Tohe said.

"Waz prolly a newbie of a lech," Camassim said.

Teleran readied himself to parry the blow, but it never came. A massive burst of lightning energy tore into the lich. It stopped stunned then it collapsed with a plea to 'master.'

Teleran's daggers buried themselves in the bones. "That thing has a master, oh that's just the kind of news I wanted."

Dagoth had been watching the weaker lich fight the others, feeling uneasy around it.

'That lich... was like me... no, like I used to be...' He was alittle disturbed for now, but nothing major.

'Something like that would have to have a master... so it's probably around here somewhere.' He said this with an edge of both concern and slight paranoia.

"Anyone have an idea which way we should head now?" His eyes studied the room they stood in, his fingers touched the dagger and his sight became keener.

" ... Dear blazes," she mutters. " ... No, it's not coming off, dear; not here in this dungeon at the very least. Is there any pain from the crown - and from your back?"

The huge, black, form of Leseth hung in the Void. Tiny Bosriel floated nearby.

They watched as the group fought with the local bandits and finally entered the Vaults of Gemin, and they watched as, one by one, the little band of adventurers stepped through the first hall and left the world bound by space and rules.

From the Void, the inner Vaults did not exist as one place, but many overlapping possibilities. It was impossible for a mortal mind to sort them.

"They have passed beyond our sight," Leseth said quietly, petting Bosriel's black hair.

"Now we wait, and trust them to find the key to your prison."

Loranna was thinking along similar lines as Tris, though the first spell she cast toward Teleran was a Fortify Endurance spell to help keep his leg from being torn off.

Teleran twisted in the water, trying to get a clear view of whatever it was that had latched onto him. He couldn't get a clear view as he was buffeted by the water. So he sent a dagger down parallel to his leg trying to take whatever it was in the face before it ripped his leg off at the thigh.

*

Whatever it was was very, very strong, and not small.

Just as Ciel jumped, Teleran dimly saw something else emerge from the water next to him in the tight confines of the well. It was vaguely man-shaped, except for the featureless tube that served as a head, and its skin was smooth. The tube-like head extended toward his face, the end was a tooth-filled hole, dripping slime and pulsating, and no eyes were evident.

The smell was horrible.

Ciel crashed into the water, plunging to its bottom in his armor. It was only about seven feet deep, but then Ciel wasn't seven feet tall.

Teleran felt a rush of strength and fortitude from his magical companions.

Jaster knew better than to go leaping into dark, watery holes. Pity noone else did. He stood near the opening and readied his bow. He couldn't see, although he wanted to be ready if that changed.

Not expecting the water so deep the knight quickly struggled to undo the belt keeping the chain shirt bound around his waist.

That was easy enough, getting it off was going to be more difficult.

He cast water breathing on Ciel. Then he drew his sword.

In the murky water, he could see bones littering the cavern, and the weird sightless phospherescent worms that were the dungeon's scavengers. Bright glints of metal from gold coins and dull, rusty armor and weaponry was scattered throughout. There was the fresh corpse of an Argonian too. Though he was underwater, his body looked curiously dessicated, as if it had been sucked dry ...

Feeling rejuvenated Teleran sent his gauntlet right into what appeared to be the putrid thing's face. His daggers slipped from their sheaths and began stabbing madly at the thing on his leg and he tried to rip it off with his free hand. His spear flew through the water to take the second creature through the chest.

Posted by: Rhedd Feb 10 2005, 08:25 AM

Teleran could feel the magical spells that had been cast on him fighting with some horrible, light-headed weakness that threatened to overcome him. His ears rang, and his vision seemed dark, even for this lightless hole.

His weapons that were enchanted were making deep cuts in the thing's rubbery hide, but those that weren't glanced off harmlessly.

The hideous thing clinging to the wall of the well turned it's tube-head toward Tris as he descended, and an earsplitting squeal erupted from its mouth.

The knight was no longer in need of abandoning his mail. He scooped up the sword which he had been forced to let go of before to attempt to removing the armor. Lungs not wanting of air he stepped in the direction Teleran and the creatures were in, making his way across the bottom of the pool. He stabbed at the beast best he could in the watery enviroment.

Ciel was heading for Teleran, and the blue-eyed Dunmer youth was at least damaging his opponent, as far as Loranna could see.

Turning her attention to the creature squealing at Tris, Loranna casts an Absorb Speed spell at it, figuring to try and heighten Tris's advantages while weakening his oppoent. An Absorb Fatigue spell aimed at the creature follow soon after.

"I think the worms are harmless ..." she adds, not seeing any worms heading for anyone still moving.

Teleran didn't understand what he was feeling he felt energized, but everything was fading. He could barely make out the tube-head on the wall. 'Do I have to do everything myself!' Snarled a voice.

Teleran lost consciousness and his weapons fell, no longer having force behind their blows. Save one, an ordinary looking iron dagger, its edges began to shimmer and glow, it looked freshly-forged as it came into Teleran's body's grasp. Teleran let out a wordless snarl as he drove his fist and dagger through the thing that had latched onto him and he kicked at it with the entrapped leg, uncaring of the pain.

Teleran reached where the head of the thing met its body and pulled the dagger through it. he turned on the other one, and pulled his arm up through the head of the first and kcicked toward the second one.

Being injured sent the creature into a frenzy, and it sucked even harder on Teleran's thigh, removing blood at an alarming rate.

As if in slow motion, Ciel's blade sliced through the water and into the creature's hide, leaving a wide gash.

Being hit hard by Teleran and blindsided by Ciel's sword, the beast thrashed wildly in the water, as if it was trying to dislodge Teleran from its jaws, but it did not let go.

Tris's blade bit deeply into the shoulder of the other creature as it lept, clumsily due to Loranna's spell, to the opposite side of the well. Squealing, it fell into the water which frothed red with intermingled blood.

It sounded like a waterfall in that direction.

Teleran attacked the leech-thing as Ciel's blade was driven home in the one attached to Teleran's leg. The dagger tore through the body until there was very little left of it that was connected to a muscle that would allow it to thrash. Teleran slowed his movements as the effects of the spells and the vast amounts of blood he had lost took their toll. 'No, not again!' screamed the voice as it faded into the background and Teleran went completely unconscious. He floated to the surface, his waterbreathing potion's effects beginning to wear off as he broke the surface, his weapons and false arm having sunk to the bottom.

Still attached to Teleran's leg, the creature almost held still for Ciel's thrust.

The Leech-Daedra that had fallen under Tris's blow, for that's what these creatures were, was far from dead. It had retreated to the safety of the water when injured.

Now the water was swarming with prey, and it picked the softest and freshest. Grabbing Loranna AND Teleran, it tried to drag them under a low overhang which extended from the bottom lip of the well and met the water's surface. No doubt it led to some deep, water-filled tunnel.

Ciel peered about in the disgusting mixture as it began to be carried away by the current. There was another worm in the water still.

Spotting it dragging its hapless victems to what would be their deaths he made his way towards it as quickly as he could. He hoped the same procedure would work as well on this creature as the other as he raised his blade once more.

Not wanting to press its luck, the Daedra released the kicking, screaming, magic-using thing and decided to make do with the limp one. It was not happy to be confronted by Ciel, walking along the bottom, trying to stab at its head.

It pulled its tubular head back into its torso, and swiped at Ciel with one free claw.

Ciel collapses to the floor, searching for more worms and a bit tired from the submerged combat.  He's having a hard time keeping his hands steady as they scour his clothing.  The knight's skin has turned a shade paler than normal.

"Loranna, help," Tris called, trying to keep his voice steady.

Healing magic wasn't his speciality. But he knew how to cure simple diseases. Now if only his mind and hands weren't both shaking... this was why doctors didn't treat their own family members.

He closed his eyes a moment and opened them again, the cure spell flowing from his fingers.

"Coming," Loranna tells Tris, quickly making sure Teleran is cured of the disease and healing before hurrying over to the Bretons.

" ...
Worms off? Good; well done," Loranna says, smiling at Tris. "Let me work on the illness and wounds ..."

Loranna gets to work, casting her cure and healing spells. "He should be fine in a few moments; you're okay, right Tris?"

(Wayrest:)

Herwyn Brand hated parties. He just wasn't well-suited to them. To be certain, he was charming, and his handsome features made far too many young women attempt to secure him as a dance partner. He had nothing against young women, but the idea of performing in front of a crowd was his idea of torture... well, his idea of torture had recently been redefined as actually being tortured and then ripped out of reality by a huge black beast, but dancing was still out of the question.

He wore his finest fur-lined tunic and the sash that marked him as a battlemage, as was expected. He mingled, as was expected. He laughed and ate and drank, as was expected. He did not, however, enjoy himself.

As much as he could without being rude, Herwyn withdrew from the crowd. Sometimes it was here, on the edge of things, that one heard the most interesting conversations, though.

Veric Retenne was the Queen's ambassador to Orsinium, and he moved constantly through the crowd, a drink always in his hand. When he was elsewhere, there were some very interesting things said about him. Things that made Herwyn frown.

The conversation two servants had near the kitchen entrance, also about Lord Retenne, was equally interesting.

Most interesting of all was the conversation between a heavily cloaked orc and Lord Frand, Lord Retenne's subordinate, through a dark garden hedge.

Herwyn thought that the Queen would like to know what was being spoken of in the corners, and he worked his way into the heart of the crowd to find her.

"I'm fine, I was never in danger," Tris said. His voice came out suspiciously flat. He took a deep breath, then smiled.

"Just one moment - there's something I've been wanting to do."

He strode to the edge of the hole, and fired several balls of lightning into the water in rapid succession.

"Take that," he said.

Loranna face breaks out into a large smile - honest and open, much like her old girlish grins, though her eyes look a little too old to say that she looks just like she used to, in her days as Incarnate.

"You're welcome," she says, looking back at Tris. " ... We're gonna have to go back down there, huh? Well, there's at least some treasure to be found below; maybe something there will make this encounter almost worthwhile ..." she adds, philosphically.

Then, as the smell reaches them, she holds her hand over her nose and mouth. " ... Er, well, maybe ..." she mutters.

"We have to go down there, you know," Tris said. "Your armor's down there, his arm is down there, and the way out is down there. We should probably go before the current carries live worms that weren't electrocuted into this area again. The shock should have killed everything in the water, in a fair sized radius."

He did not mention how he knew this, or the severe whipping he had gotten as a boy visiting his country uncle and fishing in his pond using lightning spells. It killed fish, certainly - all the fish.

Ciel gave a brief smile as Tris disappeared down the hole. With a quick glance to Teleran and a moment's passing he followed holding his nose.

Teleran looked over the edge of the hole and had deep misgivings about jumping in again, seeing as how it had panned out last time, but he was encouraged by the lack of screams coming from below. He dove into the water and and tried to find his pack, it had been ripped off at some point during the fight, though he could not recall exactly when. He happened upon the ebony spear stuck into a skull it had impacted on landing. Shaking it free he headed for the surface and took another breath of the noxious air.

He dove again, this time heading for what looked like the pack of potions, one of them should be waterbreathing at least.

Loranna, Teleran's arm and some other interesting items in her arms, surfaces for air, her wavy blond hair now totally straight and dripping.

" ... We may want to have levitation spells active when we go through that," she says, nodding to the way out. "Everyone got access to one?"

"Great," Tris called back to the others. "Make sure you have everything you came with - I'll be back in a moment."

He cast light ahead of himself, cast water breathing on himself, and shut his mouth firmly as he plunged into the current. He planned to levitate as soon as he could.

Within a very short distance, the water poured over the edge, crashing into yet more water a good sixty feet below. Tall, heavy pillars, overgrown with slime, rose to the shadowy ceiling above.

Far below Tris, at the bottom of the waterfall was a stone platform, littered with something that glittered in the pale magical light.

Teleran surfaced with his spear and a ragged pack of potions alongside him. He picked through them, he had two rising force potions left, he could levitate easily enough. "Yes Loranna, I am able. Is that my arm? I thought I'd lost it."

He had failed to recover most of his daggers, they were too mixed in with the skeletons, and he did not want to stay down there any longer than necessary. What he did remember of the battle told him that being underwater was a very bad thing here.

Teleran gets his 'arm' into position and downs one of the rising force potions before following Loranna to the waterfall. "I think I'll taste the stink of this place for years," He burbled into the water.

Posted by: Allerleirauh Feb 10 2005, 11:13 AM

Tris emerged on the other side of the waterfall, and levitated over to the stone platform, to see what was glittering.

Posted by: Loranna Feb 10 2005, 11:15 AM

Loranna would have laughed at Teleran's comment, but she was a little busy experiencing the sensation of being carried along by the force of a waterfall; even with her levitation spell to help her it was a continual struggle to maintain control, and then, when she was swept out, it took her a moment to get her bearings, during which time her stomach relived the first few moments of her early flying lessons.

However, she laughs once on the other side; they were all still alive, and as harrowing as that last swim was, swimming with a waterfall was actually pretty exhilerating in its own way.

Slowly, Loranna descends, watching the platform come closer and closer. She floats about ten feet above it to look around, renewing her levitation spell.

Teleran came out from the waterfall, and looked down at the platform, mesmerized by the shining platform. He went over to float near where Tris was situated, but kept moving lower and having to regain altitude.

What glittered on the platform was silver and gold. A number of corpses lay here, long drained of their bodily fluids. Their armor and equipment was very ornate; gold etching on silver. They were, perhaps, part of an unfamiliar religious order. There packs were full of sundry potions and trinkets. They had obviously planned for the trip, just not for the Daedra.

Just as interesting as the valuable equipment, however, was the doorway that stood between two round pillars, leading off from the platform.

Past the doorway was an ornate hallway, leading into darkness.

Five seconds later, it was an abyss. Then the first hall. Then an abyss again. Then a wide open room with a sarcophagus at its center. Then the abyss. Then the first hall.

Every five seconds, it changed.

" ... You're right," she says, frowning thoughtfully. " ... Then, perhaps, at the end of whichever section we go through next will be a third door ... I wonder if the Flamekiss will be found by then, or if we'll have to risk looking into those abysses ..."

Posted by: Teleran Feb 10 2005, 11:41 AM

Teleran kept bobbing in indecision between going to the platform and hovering up in the air. When Lor landed and there was no visible release of traps Teleran went down to the platform, and just in time too, he had forgotten about the time sensitive nature of abilities gained from potions. He looked at one of the corpses, it had been a mer, around his height, just slightly less lucky with the Daedra. He took the armor pieces from the left arm and floated them in front of his face before letting his steel arm drop and replacing it with the far shinier armor.

He rummaged through the packs and found one that was similar to what his had been before it had been torn apart in the battle with the leech-daedra. He transferred the potions he had to the new pack and secured it against himself. Some of the potions he did not recognize, but he could figure out what they did later, and in the meantime not drink them.

In the pack he also found a few scrolls. They were obviously made for very advanced students of magick and they were almost indecipherable to Teleran as he looked at them. This one was named something about fiery death, and some of the others mentioned leeching, he almost retched when he read that, the enemy's attributes.

He found a very pretentious looking dagger in the sheath of another corpse and satisfied himself that it was actually a well-balanced and usable weapon before taking it. Other than that he took a few bauble and put them in his pack.

His torn and dirtied clothes looked terribly out of place next to his exquisite new possessions.

Posted by: Allerleirauh Feb 10 2005, 11:44 AM

"Right," Tris said. "I hope these fellows were better equipped than we are."

He checked for potions and scrolls and rings and amulets that would be helpful - for a length of rope - and for any clue to the identity of the dead, or what they had been looking for.

Tucked under the breastplate of one of the men was a small, rotting, journal.

The entries were sometimes more than a week apart, and showed that these were Altmer, and had been followers of Trinimac.

One of the last entries read, in part;

"We have delivered our charge to the Vauts, as ordered. It shall surely be safe here, for this place is more dangerous than is told in legend. I say this, for while the gates were entered in proper order, and the inner vault found, we cannot retrace our steps. The exit eludes us."

Posted by: Loranna Feb 10 2005, 11:56 AM

" ... Well, perhaps, but even that doesn't seem to have helped them ..." Loranna mutters under her breath.

While Tris and Teleran search the bodies for useful items, Loranna takes stock of the things she managed to grab from the pool floor. A largish pouch proved to have a decent number of drakes, and a few small diamonds and emeralds besides. A simple bracelet, made of ebony, which shimmers with magic. A lovely-looking, but apparently non-magical, amulet, shaped like a star.

Loranna puts on the bracelet and nods, finding it to her liking. The amulet she puts around her neck and the pouch she leaves fixed to her belt for now. She feels a little safer with her new finds, though not as safe as she'd probably want to be.

"What have you all found?" Loranna asks the others.

Tris showed the others the journal.

There were so many stories and rumors to be told, and everyone had a different take on the politics in Daggerfall, Sentinel, Orsinium, Northmoor, and all of the other neighbors. Elysana moved from one group to the next to learn more. She carried with her the same glass of wine that she had at the beginning. Let others get drunk and tell more than they meant to say, she would remain in control.

The Queen smiled when she saw Herwyn. He had healed well evidentally from the ordeal in Vivec. At least outwardly.

Vault of Gemin - Sarcophagus Room

Loranna takes a moment to drink a lesser potion of restore magicka, wanting to keep her strength at full for whatever may await the party in this new area. She notes with bemusement that she's still rather wet, and uses a warmth spell to dry herself off, being thankful that she did bother to learn some of the smaller spells the healer told her were important to her new profession.

She wonders what her healer mentor would say if she told him she was using that spell to combat wetness in a legendary dungeon as opposed to a patient in a healer's tent or someone who caught the sniffles. Now dry, she starts looking around the room more closely, keeping an eye on her companions to see if anyone else needs anything.

Dagoth was treading carefully, following Loranna and the rest of the group. He was a bit paranoid from being in such a place, which was only added to by the fact that there might be something worse lurking in this forsaken vault. While he had nothing to fear along the lines of his own destruction at the hands of any of the creatures here, he was definately worried about Loranna... though she seemed to be faring alright herself.

'I have a very bad feeling about this place... it feels like we are being watched by someone... or something. And I'm sure it isn't alive...'

Having had enough of being surprised by undead rising out of places usually reserved for the truely dead, Reichi's first action was to attempt to open the Sarcophagus. When he couldn't, Eya and Camassim joined in helping him try to open it.

Tohe, however, kept his distance. If anything was coming out, he wasn't going to get hit. He had enough scars as it were.

"Something most certainly is amiss..." Erenius says, removing the lid to one, noting its inhabitant was truley dead, and not a sleeping minion awaiting a command from elsewhere.

*Erenius looks at it for but a moment before bringing his blade upon it, severring its head and stepping back, believing it dead*

"There's something up with these skeletons..." Erenius says. "They seem to be able to use a powerful illusion spell to take the appearance of the one who first lays eyes upon them after their death and interrment."

'And quite frankly...this is gonna be one hell of a trip if these things manage to infiltrate our group...' Erenius thinks to himself and the others who can hear such.

Duplicates of Reichi, Eya and Camassim leapt from their sarcophagus and attacked.

All three jumped back momentarily, before Reichi leapt at the one that looked like him, and was becoming more and more like him. Reichi drew his Deadric shortsword and Dagger of Senses.

Eya and Camassim also decided on taking on their doubles, to avoid whacking the real person, rather than the doppleganger, as would undoubtably happen if they fought each other's dopplegangers.

Reichi wondered if they only took apearance, or if they took abilitys and skills as well. Then it occured to him he couldn't tell time down here. It could be midnight, or noon outside. A Full moon could be rising, and if these things fully copied the originals, that would mean fighting four Werewolves.

Four undead werewolf copy-cats.

Loranna blinks as she sees the undead duplicates sit up, and moves to keep a good view lest she lose track of who is who.

"Ours sound off!" she calls, casting protective spells on Eya to start.

Posted by: FireMaster Feb 11 2005, 12:34 AM

*Erenius merely stands back, watching for a moment before reopening his copy's casket and tossing in an interesting mixture, that, when broken, unleashed a small elemental burst that was nasty to anything caught*

"I'm here...and its just I, nothing more," Erenius says, as he rolls the concoction under the lid, walking away , his eyes divided, trying to keep an eye on his double of sorts, another on the fight between Reichi, his friends, and their doubles, as well as Loranna and whomever else yet to have a clone.

Loranna feels her skin start to crawl ...

"The ants again, huh?" her doppleganger asks with a mockingly gentle voice. "Perhaps next time you should just give in; you know you were starting to like it last time ..."

Loranna whirls, her hands already waving - and she finds her doppleganger jumping her, pinning her to the floor and rolling around. Two spells go off, as the two ashskin Nord girls struggle to overcome one another.

Dagoth got kinda confused around this point. They were too alike for him to be able to immediately tell the difference.

"If more come, we will be hard pressed to find who is real and whom is the doppleganger amongst us," Erenius shouts, urging his companions on as he brings his opponent to his end.

"Me!" both Lorannas yell to Dagoth in unison.

"Liar!" the Loranna currently on the ground snarls, trying to dig her nails into her double's wrists.

"I just got my life back; I'm not letting some dungeon-spawned copy steal it from me this soon!" the other sneers, pulling one hand free and casting another spell. "Time to say good night, dear other self."

The first Loranna feels her strength ebbing, as the energy is drawn from her body. " ... Should have ... added a Calm effect ... to that," she says, fighting off the loss of consciousness and casting a spell of her own.

" ... GaH!" the second Loranna yells, raising her hand to smash down in the first Loranna's face. "No tournabout for you, monster!"

The first Loranna twists and gets her arm up, both now locked again in a struggle to regain the top position. Both try to cast more Absorb spells, while trying to keep the other from getting any other off.

"Dagoth...surely you can tell them apart!" Erenius shouts. "If you can, lemme know when the doppleganger is atop so I may strike if its needed!"

"I surely hope its not however," Erenius muses, beneath his breath, yet steadying himself for the moment if needed anyway.

Eya and her counterpart were now exchanging blows, the Double's skill were close to her own, but, due to to Loranna's spell, she was fairing better than the wannabe, whoi had growing bruises on her face. Camassim and his double were looking less healthy, its was hard to block a mace, and bonemold didn't last long against dwarven metals. Both had several lacerations, and more than a few bruises. The bonemold was quickly becoming bonemeal.

Reichi and his double were engaged in a elegant dances of blades, they mostly blocked each others blade, broke loose, circled, then raced back in, clashing breifly before dancing back out of the fight and jumping back in. Every once in awhile, one took a slash wound. With such a combat, both could eventually die of blood lose if a victor wasn't decided soon enough.

After more struggling, the Loranna currently on the floor pushes hard with her legs, and sends her opposite sprawling.

Rising, the first Loranna starts casting another spell - but the Loranna she just threw off is faster, and the standing Loranna's eyes widen as she feels another Absorb spell drain away part of her, this time draining her mental strength. Her own spell fizzles and with desperation she lunges forward, unsheathing her sword.

The second Loranna rolls out of the way and kicks at the charging Loranna's legs, sending her sprawling, and with another quick casting leaves the now downed Loranna moaning, unable to stand.

"I'm sorry dear, but I can't let you keep playing this game," the victorious Loranna says, her eyes sweeping the room. " ... Crap; Erenius, Dagoth, can you two do something for them?" she asks, pointing to Reichi and the others.

A duplicate Marein rose up and assaulted his original. It was easy for the others to tell which was which, though, because one of them didn't have enchanted runes carved into his back.

Night-Scar felt his crown heating up and his back lighting up again. It would have been the ppumping hormones that set it off.

The fake Night-Scar leapt up into the air and dropped in a knee plant to his counterpart, but both the fake and the original were equally trained in the martial arts, and equally deficient from lack of exercise.

They fought for some time, wrestiling back anf forth. When one would give ground, the other would take it, leaving htem in a virtually endless deadlock.

Finally, the circlet ended things abruptly. It fired out a shock discharge of mighty power. One Night-Scar fell back, singed, burned, in pain.

The other wiped his brow in relief and ran over to join the melee. He prepared to leap up and lay a blow on each of the "real" versions of the other fighters. The question was, how did he know which was which?

The other Night-Scar rolled over, choking.

The scar on his back was glowing white hot.

With a furious roar, he stood up and grabbed his doppelganger in a chokehold. The tables were imbalanced now, because the real Marein was pumped up with fury and emotion. He slammed the false one into the wall holding him by the neck, over and over and over until it slumped down.

He snapped its head off for good measure.

Obviously he had no control over the powers of the crown he was wearing...

Erenuis had chosen rightly, aided mostly by that Camassim's usual fighting style was that of the 'tank', and just wailing on the oppoent, relying on armor to take the hits. "Im Fine," the Redgaurd responded, just before a blow shattered his right pauldron like glass.

The two Camassims launched themselves at each other, the duplicate mimicing Camassim, the maces locked.

Meanwhile, Reichi sent the Dagger of Senses screaming into his opponent's eye. The false Reichi was distracted by this long enough for the Daedric shortsword to swept across it's throat. The False Reichi fell, dead, Reichi soon collasped as well, but was still alive, albeit blooding badly. His armor wasn't exactly in prime condition either.

Eya's double's neck bent back at an unnatural angle as a powerful uppercut snapped it. The double dropped, limply. Eya brought her foot down several time on the doppleganger's windpipe several times, just to be sure.

Tohe, who hadn't encountered a double at the start, was fairly badly against his double, as it had gotten the drop on him. The two fought with their sabers for several minutes before Tohe got an opening, and slashed the double's hamstrings. The double crashed to the floor yet continued fighting back as best it could. Tohe however, had received several deep gashes to his arms, so both still remained rather evenly matched.

He starts casting a Detect Life spell, not making it apparent as to who the target is, just as the conscious Loranna starts casting her spell. Just as Loranna casts the spell, he targets her with his spell. He is enraged when he finds that the 'Loranna' that he was talking to was the fake.

The fake Loranna grins wickedly at Dagoth as she finishes casting her spell - an area affect Absorb Health and Absorb Inteligence to hit everyone she can, friend and foe.

"But you don't get any say in it," she grins. "Time to give me your lives, dears ..."

The real Loranna had been playing possum for a bit, quietly trying to restore her mental strength while her double played games with Dagoth; she rued not having packed a Restore Inteligence potion and only relying on spells for this, as her third attempt fizzled.

"Gotta get it to work," she says, trying one more time - just as her double's attack goes off ...

Eya dropped as the spell hit her, muttering something about stupid absorbtion spells. Reichi was out of the radius, and was stil lwounded, so he watched helplessly. Camassim and his double both stumbled, but continued fighting, both dropping to one knee.

Tohe had a diffrent reaction to the spell. Survival instinct kicked in with the onset of the damage, as well as something else. His double experianced a more gorey death then any of the others, as a angrered and wounded Werewolf tore through it, rather messily, before it could be determined if the double mimiced this.

Tohe turned on the caster, and leapt, his current form allowing him to nearly cover the entire distance with a single bound. He attempted to close the distance and claw the false Loranna to pieces.

Dagoth was able to absorb most of the spell, the rest just didn't do TOO much to him.

'You are gonna regret doing that...' He was visibly angry... not noticing that his illusion had disappeared, and really didn't care. 'I'm gonna destroy you... and you are gonna pay for hurting Loranna... and trying to hurt me... well, you get the point.' His hollow eye sockets glowed with magical spheres of anger... red ones.
