Posted by: Loranna Yesterday, 03:00 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized
individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the
player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and
discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player
whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using
this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.
For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look
http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary:
Loranna, and her companions, have recently experienced a shift in reality,
finding themselves in a world where Azura emerged victorious in the Blue Dawn.
The heroes who used the Eiodolon to defeat her never made it, and now Azurites
were fighting against Captain Cyndarius's men for Ald Raathim. Dres Jazbet,
with his Lady Kethiah, control the castle, Jazbet's precognition making him a
deadly foe, and the heroes were forced to flee to town, which Cyndarius's men
controlled.
The Eight who were to go to Allerleirauh, bearing the Mythopoeic Tome, have
been chosen and have just entered the realm of Akatosh, where they have learned
that what has fallen cannot be unfallen.
Meanwhile, Cyndarius and those who did not go with the Eight make their way
through Skyrim to the fallen

Tsei, Female Argonian: Tsei is on the boat with Cyrandius, Falco, Shaka

IC: Tsei felt safer knowing she was around all these men. Strong men.

The male Dunmer Reichi has gone with the other Seven (counting him its eight)
into the realms of the Nine Divine, and is currently in Akatosh's realm. Where
they managed to annoy some Dragons who were playing with a ball, but have since
apologized for making them drop it.
They were so nice as to make a suit of armor out of it for Reichi, too.

The other dragon - perhaps they were mates, for one seemed
smaller and more graceful than the other - rolled the golden ball towards the bridge with its snout.
"Your armor is torn, wolfling. Take this
instead."
He was speaking to Reichi. The golden ball melted, and ran into a new form;
golden armor, light, and beautifully wrought.
Reichi blinked in awe of the splendid looking armor and took it, bowing to the
Dragons. "Thank you," he said.

of any use here. We have escaped the castle and the Eight have set out. This is

Summary
Maranda Biennie is pining over what terrible event lead to this, before
deciding to lay blame on Loranna's crowd, after all, everything bad that
happens to her is because of them... or Meridia... But what happened to the
Seven Paladins of Justice, and Lord Landon? They forgot about everything, and
poor Lyssia? What happened to her? Find out on my next post!

Summary: Anya, the Bosmeri Rogue, is traveling with the Eight.
She watched as Diamond handled the dragons through diplomacy, and was happy for
Reichi when recieved his new armor. Though a bit jealous too.

Luxi gazed at the beatiful gold armor. It was the most beatiful armor she had
ever seen... but why did the dragons make it for him so willingly?
Luxi was suspsuis, but she kept her mouth shut.

Summary: Shaka, an Argonian battlemage, is travelling with
General Cyndarius' Legions to aid the Emperor in the capital. For reasons he
doesn't fully understand, he didn't join the Eight in their quest, and hopes to
prove himself against the Azurites in this alternate reality.
IC: Shaka had slung Anya's amulet around his neck, where it rested against the
Amulet of Shadows. It would be surprisingly easy to leave this nightmare Ald
Raathim, a shattered and smaller provincial town compared to his memories of a
thriving city that welcomed refugees.
Shaka had an odd thought: Perhaps my collection still exists in Caldera -- all
the Glass armor and weapons, the Ebony, even the daedric and legendary
artifacts. He dismissed the thought of rescuing his possessions even as it came
up.
In this reality,
Shaka's place was with Cyndarius and the remaining adventurers. He would make
no attempt to travel to Caldera and move his possessions.

Despite the narrow path, Reichi took the time to attempt to put
the armor on. And ended up nearly falling several times in the attempt, but
eventually got the beautiful golden armor on. It was light, lighter than
something that looked to be made of gold should have been. Flexible and very
easy to move in as well.
"As effective as it is beautiful," he mused.

A moment earlier, the bridge had seemed to stretch before them into infinity.

the soldiers assembled before him. There were some fine men here, his troops,
sent from Skyrim to the Imperial Provence to save the capital... but they were
too late. Now, they had complemented thier own troops with any of the manfolk
who could hold a weapon, and were holding off the Azurite forces intill the

with Landon, and now I am here, but why?" she thought, "Because I am
going to see Lord Landon, in Cyrodiil, but the Azurites took the city, and now
she was fleeing" another side of her brain told her, "But the
azurites were defeated at Red Mountian?" She thought, "No they
weren't" the other side of her brain thought. "Whats happened, its
like I closed my eyes, and the world has changed..."

The result was not, however, weakness. Strength itself had not left him, only
the definition of the strength of Herwyn Brand. What remained would be
impossible for him to later describe to those that had not experienced it, but
it was not weakness.

Herwyn had always been a strong boy. He had relied on his strength often as he

She hesitated, then she stepped forward into the gate. The sword came down, and

escaping her.
She suddenly felt very vonurable. She held Shamakand, seeking comfort.

The fleetness in the young legs of a girl who often had cause to run from

and move away from crashing drunks. The speed of a woman who would had been
ferried about for months, and who reveled in being free to dive and swim, or to

exactly define what had just happened to her, not in words; everything related to
speed in her mind was now ... gone. But she could still move, and faster than a
snail as well. Strange ...

Reichi was next and stepped up to the gate. He watched with
curiosity as the sword came down on him. The sensation the followed was odd.
His personality was what he gave up at the gate. And he felt that be taken by
the blade's blow, but he still had personality, but not as it was defined for
him back on Nirn. It was no longer set in stone, it had become undefined.
"Woah...thats...weird..." he muttered, standing on the otherside of
the gate.

Anya stepped up to the gate, apprehensive. She was wary of
losing any more, since she was still unsure all that Allania had done to her.
She took a step, and the sword dropped.
Anya felt a familar sensation, she had only felt it a while back. A sharp stab
entered her mind. A terrified squeak came out, though she didn't feel pain this
time. She felt her intelligence leave... but it wasn't a dumbing experience.
Awareness, understanding, skills she had learned throughout her life remained.
It felt as if she shed a mask, and what she truly was shone now. Archaic
meanings no longer applied, and she was left with the mind that made her Anya
and that alone. Whether this was truly a sacrafice, or more a knew beginning,
she didn't know.
By the Nines, will I ever sort myself out after this day?

"it's time..."
he stepped forward, feeling his sense of.. fortune, superstition fade. The idea
of it was there, but how it affected him... was no longer something anyone
could tell.
His eyes returned to normal, and he sighed.
'great, I swear, an anvil shall fall upon me and I shall somehow turn out okay
only to trip and fall to my death...' {shut up already...}

Tamriel:
It took much less time to break a siege than to set one. By the time the sun
was rising over the sea, the Legion was ready to move. Still, though, they
stayed at their posts, waiting for darkness to cover the sudden retreat.
The day seemed endless as the soldiers sat huddled agains the unseasonable
snow, their tents gone; bundled onto the supply train.
The Azurites did not stir. Perhaps Jazbet had seen the Legion's retreat, and
decided to let them be someone else's problem. Perhaps he had, as Cyndarius had
implied, forseen his own defeat. Whatever the reason, the day proved to be less
than exciting.
Just as the sun dipped under the last, lowest hill, a silent order was given
and suddenly, like a great serpent slowly awakening, the Legion was on the
move.
By dawn, they intended to make the Rift Pass, meet the 95th Legion, and then
onward into Skyrim.

Marein, walking through the gate, felt the sword enter him on
one side and leave him through the other - and through the exit wound flowed
out his will to push on further, to work through pain. The trials they had
already suffered came to bear their full wait on him, his legs feeling weak. He
felt as though he was going to vomit, faint, and surrender all at once.

The first thing the eight companions noticed, after the odd
sensation of loss and infinite possibility, was - the wind.
The wind curled around Herwyn Brand like a live thing, like an insistent
sheepdog trying to tug him in the direction of its choosing.
Then it took thought, gathered itself, and rushed at them, with enough force to
knock them over.
The land that stretched out in front of them was white, and cold, and lonely.
It was night here, and moonlight shone on glittering ice, though there was no
moon, simply scudding low clouds.
Far off, jagged peaks arose; birds circled in them, birds that surely must be
giants to be visible at such a distance. Nearer, white wolves tore at a
carcass.
A herd of fat goats ran towards the party, away from the wind, and jumped over
the sword bridge, with complaining wheezes and grunts. A wolf followed.
In the distance, they could see a single large round stone building, with a
single chimney in the center. From the chimney, black smoke rose. They could
smell the sweetness of roasting goat meat, even here.

Ald Raathim, just before the departure of the legion
Nalion stood at the crest of the hill looking down at the besieged town of Ald
Raathim. The signs of the battles were visible even from this distance. This
town never had prospered. This town was not what he recalled as being
"real".
Still, he felt like he was leaving a part of him behind and it pained him. As
much as Morrowind felt strange at times to a Breton like him, this town, in the
middle of House Dres territoy, had a feel of home. A safe haven. A haven that
now had to be abandoned.
Nalion hoped that the Eight would come through. For the companions that had
stayed, for Ald Raathim, for the world. The mage sighed, cast a longing glance
at the town beneath and drew his cloak tighter around his shoulders.
Then, Nalion turned and joined Cyndarius's legion on their march towards the
Rift Pass - and to Cyrodiil.

The Inner Sea, Morrowind
Goranthir, the young Dunmer/Altmer ranger, was traveling across the snow-swept
sea on a Silt Strider. Ordinarily, of course, Silt Striders do not cross
waterways, but Goran had a knack for speaking with animals, and, it seemed that
the Inner Sea had many ridges that were not so deep. It could walk along these,
and never be submerged. Encased in its carapace, the Stider did not even notice
the cold, while the ranger was grateful his cloak could become warm fur at a
touch,
It was still a roundabout path through the Sea, and Goranthir, alone, had no one
to talk to but the Silt Strider.
It took some time to explain to the Silt Strider why the Azurites were bad. To
the Strider, they were as annoying as any pilot it had had. More problematic
was explaining to the creature, whose brain was quite large but whose
sensibilities were not, why it was necessary for the Eight to succeed, and for
Goranthir to be one of the Eight.

The adventurers trudged in a loose group, just behind General
Cyndarius and his staff. Shaka was bundled in as many layers of clothing
salvaged from Ald Raathim as would leave him still able to move. He hadn't felt
this cold since his brief exploration of Solstheim.
Even though he knew he shouldn't indulge himself, he found himself thinking of
Anya. If the Eight succeeded, would Anya return to him? Would the Eight even
qualify as mortal anymore?
He thought for a moment of the old saying, "You never step into the same
river twice."
Shaka had to focus on the task at hand. The Legion that wound behind the
adventurers would die for Cyndarius without hesitation, had already been doing
so. He tightened the wrappings around his face and walked on.
Parraptons buzzed overhead, guarding the Legion's flanks. Shaka wondered for a
moment what had happened to their queen. Probably the matriarch wasn't even in

parraptons were a little sluggish in this cold, but hanging on.

Anya pulled her arms tight. She had traveled enough times to
Solstheim herself to be ready for the cold. She began pace about and flex her
fingers and toes to keep her blood flowing and body warm, though the tips of
her ears were being nipped at. Is there a way to get warmer?
Then she had an idea. She grabbed her spear, and gave a quick motion of her
arms. She frowned when Lotus didn't come. Is it because we exsist in a
half-world right now or because I can't call for him? She tried it again,
and really focused on needing him for protection, to drive the call in him.
With a small burst of flames, Lotus appeared next to Anya. The winds quickly
caught him and nearly sent him tumbling away when Anya reached out and snagged
his tail. Lotus perched on her shoulder. Using his tail as an anchor, he pulled
his wings tight and hunkered down in the wind. Though it was awkward, Anya kept
warm.

These were, without a doubt, the largest, fattest goats Loranna
had ever seen - all male too, she thinks, as she tries to comfort the party
with a Resist Cold spell.
The wind was still buffeting her, though, and with the goats leaping over the
bridge, Loranna predicted that crossing Kyne's realm was going to be an
adventure in endurance and agility - and, hopefully, not speed. She was still
getting adjusted to the sensation of having speed but not her speed.

Ald Raathim
The village belonged to the Azurites once again. Jazbet addressed them from the
town square, congratulating them on holding out until the siege was lifted, as
he had seen it would be. They huddled together, their breath coming out in
mist, as they praised Azura to the highest.
Goranthir listened to the speech, his hood down. He knew his cloak was keeping
his body warm, but there was a chill in his bones. Where had Cyndarius’s men
gone? Had the Eight been chosen? Where were all of his friends? Tris had
promised to come back to him, but what if he could not?
There were too many questions, and Goranthir was grateful to be distracted by
turmoil in the tavern. He followed the sound of the noise, and found Jazbet’s
guards looking over a bizarre symbol floating in the air in the main room.
Eight swords, pointing at angles to one another …
“What is it?” one of the Azurites was asking, touching it gingerly.
Goranthir had his suspicions.

Isidor's foot had been burned by Akatosh's realm; Loranna didn't want to

Loranna was right to be worried; where Slyvos had touched the ground, his body
was one massive bruise; the bones felt crushed, as if he had fallen a great
distance and not merely a few feet. The wind was relentless.
Slyvos looked a little different too. Less like Jazbet, and more like... somebody
else.
No dragons rushed at the party as a result of Slyvos's body hitting the ground.
The goats were preoccupied with not being eaten; the wolves were preoccupied
with chasing goats. Far away, however, a dark-winged creature took flight, and
headed towards the large round stone building.

Loranna gingerly pulls Slyvos back onto the bridge, using her magic to heal his
badly-hurt body. "Hang on dear, hang on ..." she says, dulling the
pain as best she can, mending the crushed bone until his body is whole again,
taking him into her arms and rubbing his back soothingly when he's healed
enough for her to do so.
Some part of her noted the slight difference in Slyvos's appearance, even as
she worked to heal him. "Dear speak to me ..."

only a moment before she had felt the sharp emptiness of a part of her, a full

It was as though she was sluggish, clumsy, foolish, all at once. All that made
up certain parts of her were vacant...looking around, she let out a small yelp.
She was translucent. Like a wraith - as though only a fourth of her was still
present. To her left and right, she saw to her surprise that the equally
translucent form of a red-eyed Bosmeri girl next to her, who looked familiar
from the experience with the book. Puzzled, she looked past and saw the

This couldn't be good.

"That doesn't look quite like we hoped it would look, does
it?" Tris said. "Keep going, you know the direction you're
headed."
Ahead of them, the bridge soared out over a chasm, as the land beneath them
dropped away. The stone house was on a high place, it seemed, and these were
mountains bigger than any mountains in Skyrim. Far beneath them was what
appeared to be a Nordic stone circle; as they drew closer, they saw that it was
actually a circle of twelve stone chairs, one larger and more massive than the
others. The chairs were smashed and overturned.
Then they saw one of the occupants of the chairs. He was a giant. Until he
moved, he looked like part of the mountain; when he turned, they could see that
he was actually a handsome man - for a man hundreds of feet tall. There was
snow in his beard, and he appeared to be crying. He did not seem to see them.
Beyond the giant was the "mess" Tris had mentioned. He was right. It
couldn't be described. It was a place where the world stopped making sense. A
crack in reality. And things fell through it; the wind was blowing that way,
pulling hard at the people on the bridge, pulling at the giant's beard and
hair. It was the wind through the crack which had overturned the stone chairs.
"Yeah," Tris said. "Don't fall from here."

“I don’t see nothing,” his companion shrugged.
“I did.”
The guard went to the stairs, and looked up into the shadows where Goranthir

Loranna almost asks if there is anything they can do for the giant, but Allie's
words ring in her mind: come to me like an arrow .... She steps forward through
the gate.
Now, it was endurance - again, not endurance, but her endurance. The
stamina of the child who would work for hours doing chores so that mommy would
be happy. The endurance of a teenager who would stay up all night, listening to
the adventurers talk of far off lands and treasures and wars fought, serving
drinks and having drinks as they roared with laughter. The endurance of a woman
who had found people and causes to fight for, to devote herself to, to labor
over for hours or days at a time ...
She was just a little better prepared this time for the sensation, but,
paradoxically, just a little less prepared for the feeling afterward. Her sense
of self had been shaken by losing an eigth; now, it was a fourth that was
missing.
" ... Who am I again?" she asks.

Tamriel:
The mountains of Skyrim loomed large and white ahead, as the 103rd Legion and
company wound through the foothills towards Rift Pass.
Cyndarius rode alongside the column of troops and wagons on a large, solid,
Colovian-bred draft horse. It was a huge animal, and oddly out of place among
the sleek chargers of the Legion.
Drawing up to Nalion and Shaka, and overhearing the last of their conversation,
he slid from the saddle and walked with them.
"I'm confused," said Cyndarius with a wide smile. "Is the
Emperor just a foreign king or just a symbol?"
Ahead, at the front of the column, a trumpet let out a long call. Cyndarius
looked up.
"Ah! The scouts have made contact with the 95th. They've made good time.
I'm sure they'll be thrilled to know it was just so they could turn
right back around," he said with a laugh, remounting his horse.
"If you'll excuse me, I have to go act like a general or something."

Diamond, Marein, and Shai watched the gate apprehensively. They
all felt so hollow, so little like themselves...they were only a fourth of

It was painful. It was a rogue without his roguish charm...
A fighter whose focus had been swept from beneath her...
It was a young diplomat, whose wit was always there, even when she didn't
realize...and above all, it was a gaping vacuum in all of their - their beings,
their selves. They had been three in one piece, and now they were one in
three pieces, broken and terrified.

Slyvos gulped a bit, stepping into the gate, and again the
blades got him; his rather odd way of acting, his very personality, it was
still there, but it wasn't HIS personality... he felt almost like a different
person, yet another piece of himself missing. And yet... he had felt somewhat
like this once before... he just can't remember when.
'...'
He really just kept quiet now.

Anya stepped through. The sensation was familiar.
She felt her every action was acutely hers. No longer was she given up to
chance. Now she saw everything for what it was based on her actions. She no
longer had her Luck.
She exited on the other side, eyes closed. I don't know if I can handle 5 or
6 more times.

Isidor had kept silent, during the whole trip through Kyne's
sphere. He felt clusmier then before, and was lucky he didn't slip and fall
again. After Anya went, Isidor stepped through the portal. He felt his body
slow, and going slower. He flet sluggish, tired.
His speed had been taken from him.

QUOTE(Rhedd @ Aug 22 2005, 09:20 PM)
Nalion's eyes focused again.
"He's both and more, Cyndarius.", Nalion said, stomping through the
snow after Cyndarius. He began to miss his mare from the trip through Skyrim...
He folded his arms, taking care to keep them in the sleeves of his robe and
began to rub his side for warmth. A fire would be nice now, and some hot stew.
And...

That left Diamond, last in line. Well, what remained of Diamond. And Marein,

Diamond stepped forward, felt the blade slash her, but didn't pass through the
other side. Instead the blades flung her back.
"Only eight are permitted," the cloaked figure said.

OOC summary: Dane Rubyn
Dane Rubyn is a 38 year old squad leader of the 95th Imperial Legion, and the
1st Cohort. He is currently marching to Ald Raathim, when the army meets up
with the 103rd Legion, the army they had been expecting to meet at the city.
IC:
Rubyn was still a bit upset at the turn of events, along with the rest of his
legion. They had been marching for quite a while now, and now they were expected
to turn back. But bigger things were happening, and there was no room for
convenience. Rubyn walked over to where the other officers were. They appeared
to be talking to one of the men from the 103rd.
"Cyndarius, you say? He is the General, now? Quite a turn of events."
One of them was saying.
"Well, congradulations to him!" Rubyn put in. "I have heard of
this man, and most of what I have heard was positive."
"Over there, he is coming to us. In order, men! Look sharp."
The group of officers didn't need to be told twice, and had soon formed a line.
Their captain, Adrian Ivantie, was first to greet Cyndarius. Rubyn thought
Cyndarius to be a honest seeming man, somebody you could look in the eye and
trust.
"Hail, General Cyndarius! The 95th offers our congradulations on your new
rank and title, though we are grieved over the causes. Tell us, how has your
legion faired?"

The part of Diamond that was still aware of her surroundings shook her head

incoherently, "no help I betrayal no!" Shai, tried to hold her
composure, as she always had, by focussing on the task at hand, but she found
that she couldn't, and she, too broke down into tears.
Marein looked on desperately. "Diamond, Shai," he said, hating his
partially-formed self for saying it, "We have to go back..." He felt
himself tearing out his own heart, broken by this all. "We have to

Shai, still balanced and still strong, lifted the other two wraith-like beings
in her arms and stumbled down the bridge, balanced but unfocused.

The Eight - Seven now - had emerged from the gate into what was
known as a paradise. Not in the general sense of the word, a lovely place, but
in the strict sense, a walled garden with a fountain at the center.
Over their heads arched branches laden with fruit. The smell of the fruit was
almost crushing in its loveliness. Unlike the other two spheres, where you
could see for miles in all directions, in this place you couldn't see far. But
everywhere you rested your eyes, there was something to see. From somewhere
ahead, the light, warm breeze carried the music of a flute. From somewhere to
the side came the musky scent of something living. Indeed, there were many
things living, both animals familiar to the group - civet cats, brightly
colored birds - and less familiar. In the ferns and flowers at their feet,
something rustled and chirped.
The branches hung low enough to touch them, if they were not careful.

Cyndarius looked over all the new faces. They were tired faces. The faces of
men who had seen grim fighting for months without respite, faces that had known
unsteady rations, the death of friends, and the death of their commander.
There, though, behind the captain, was one that was different, subtly.
Certainly the Corporal looked tired, and his eyes lowered at the mention of
their fallen general, but he also had the look of a man returning from leave to
find his unit in combat. A well-fed, eager sort of look.
"Thank you, Captain," Cyndarius said to Ivantie, "I'm sorry to
hear of Klemenis's death. He was a good General."
In fact, Cyndarius once had a rather heated argument with the good General
Klemenis, but this was neither the time nor the place to mention that.
"We've fared as well as could be expected, Captain. I'm sorry to make you
turn around and travel the pass again, but I'd like your company to lead the
column, since you're familiar with what lies ahead.
"And if there is anything your company needs, let Captain Merey
know."
Giving on last glance, and a quick smile, to the Corporal, General Cyndarius
moved on.

The Tavern, Ald Raathim
“Who’s there?” the Azurite guard snarled, looking towards the stairs.
“I don’t see nothing,” his companion shrugged.
“I did.”
The guard went to the stairs, and looked up into the shadows where Goranthir
stood. The Chameleon spell was useful after all, the young ranger
thought.
“What do you see?”
“Ah, it’s nothing,” the guard said. A couple mice, rummaging through the
junk left behind by Cyndarius’s men. “Let’s go tell the master about the
swords.”
The guards left, and Goranthir was free to look at the strange gate up close.
A sobbing Diamond stumbled out of a gate, wearing the ancient jewel still.
Behind her came two more, a grim-faced Marein without the usual twinkle in his
eyes and Shai with a blank expression, deep within the layers of her
subconscious.
Diamond was surprised to see Goranthir there. "Goran!" she cried,
embracing him and leaning on him for support. "The Eight...gone...turned
back...cheat...awful, betrayed them..."
She wept.

pass toward Cyrodiil," Goranthir whispered, his eyes on the door. "How

"I'm not a soldier, but I think horses might be scarce.
You'll need them. I'm no warrior, Cyndarius. My skills lie elsewhere. But... if
you have a spare horse, I would not say 'no'.", Nalion answered with a
smile.
"An odd Corporal, you say? Now if you speak of oddness.. oddness seems to
be normal just right now. I'll go see him. What's his name?"
Cyndarius smiled. "First Cohort, Seventh Squad. You tell me. And, thank
you."
Cyndarius rode off toward the front of the column.
"M'lord!" a young voice called to Nalion a moment later. It was a
calvaryman, leading another fine brown charger by the reins. "M'lord, I
was told to bring you a horse. His name is Forsa."
He handed the reins to Nalion, nodded, and rode off in a hurry.

QUOTE(Loranna @ Aug 22 2005, 03:42 PM)
Loranna frowns and casts a healing spell on Isidor anyway.
Loranna blinks, looking at Slyvos, unsure how to answer that. She
squeezes his hand once more, her frown melting.
Then, she turns back to the bull, and blushes, for no one's said anything to it
yet. She curtesies as best she can, and says "Hello; sorry for
having disturbed you."
The bull reached out its head to Loranna, so that her head lay between its
huge, curving horns. It came so close that its moist, broad nose almost touched
her own, and sniffed her. Then it snorted, blowing warm breath into her face so
that her hair blew up, turned, and galloped away, its tiny, brush-like tail
held high.
Presently the bull returned; with it was a young man, probably an Imperial,
though he didn't have the look of a pure Imperial.
The young man wore a simple tunic and wrapped leggings, which suited his
graceful, lithesome form better than any clothes they had ever seen. His hair
had not been cut, clearly, in ages; it fell in a great gleaming mane of dark
gold, framing his face, which had a sweetness rarely seen except in children
too young to talk. He carried a shepherd's staff, and the staff was like a
living tree, bearing leaves and flowers.
The young man put his arms around the bull's neck, and rubbed the poll of its
head, then kissed its broad flat cheek. The bull galloped away again, leaving
the young man, who said nothing, simply smiled.

"Damnit," said Marein, "Come on!" He ran up
at the gate, and the swords sliced - throwing him back into Shai and Diamond.
"It's blocked," he whispered frantically, "Only Eight can pass.
We have to run for it. I think there's a back door here..." He picked up
Diamond over his shoulder and crept to the back room. There was a door, but a
quick listen revealed the presence of guards on that side to.
The Azurite pounded on the door again.
"Chimney!" hissed Diamond, pointing. Shai nodded and rushed up into
the shaft, pulling herself up through the soot and cutting her arm up badly.
She stopped partway and extended a hand down to Marein, who followed, and
pulled Diamond behind him.
The guard burst through the door, looking around. The tavern seemed empty,
but...what was that flash of white by the fireplace? He peered into the hole.
Marein pulled Diamond out, and they lay flat on the rooftop, waiting.
The guard felt something heavy drop into his temple, and then he was knocked
into the stone bottom. As Shai heaved back up onto the roof, the guard's
partner came into the tavern, looking, and saw the unconscious form of his
fellow guard. Pushing him aside, he looked around. There was nobody there...
"ON THE ROOF!" He bellowed.

He led them forward, through the heavily laden trees. It was difficult not to

to avoid ones that came from the sides. The fruit smelled delectable. A very
small golden-coated monkey scrambled up Deothur's leg, and sat on his shoulder.
A voice whispered from the grass, so that only Slyvos could hear it.

as your spirit traveled inwards from the Outer Realms and took flesh, now you
must give back, if you intend to leave the spheres of the divines."
Goranthir’s eyes narrowed even more. “Okay.”
"Then make your payment, and pass through the gate," the figure said,
and bowed.
Goranthir leapt into the gate with another shriek, and gave up his Willpower.
He wasn’t using it anyhow.

Akatosh
"Now," the dark-robed figure said, turning its hooded head towards
Goranthir on the slender bridge. "You stand on the path; you have come a
long way. Will you turn back, or will you make the payment that is required to
pass the gate?"
Goranthir’s eyes narrowed. “I’ll make the payment. How much?”
"One eighth of your substance, ranger," the dark-robed figure said,
inclining its hooded head towards Goranthir. "What the spheres gave to you
as your spirit traveled inwards from the Outer Realms and took flesh, now you

Goranthir leapt into the gate with another shriek, and gave up his
Willpower. He wasn’t using it anyhow.
On the other side was the wind, and the ice, and the stone house in the
distance.
Nearer to hand, however, were fat black goats.
The wolves had gone. So had the moonlight. It was morning now.
The goats stood in a group, and complained plaintively. To others it sounded
like bleating, but Goranthir was a ranger.
"How much longer will we stay like this?"
"I don't care about the rest of you, I'm going to feed myself to the
wolves."
"Very heroic, Geiri, very heroic. And you'll get back inside the hall that
way, won't you?"

Rubyn shifted uncomfortably. He didn't want to, but he couldn't

"Have you noticed anything... different? And more than just the weather.
I.. I don't know what to say.. just a difference." He chuckled than.
"What am I saying? I probably sound like a madman right about now."
Nalion nodded and a smile crept up his face.
"Very good. Yes, something is indeed different, Dane. Not many people
recognize it, though. And it's by all means no sign of madness. You can speak
freely. There will be ears to listen to you.", Nalion said reassuringly
and took Dane a bit to the side.
"This may sound confusing to you now, but the world is trembling in its
foundations and it is not what is used to be. I fear I don't have the time to
explain it in full, for this will be hard to explain, but you will learn. As
all have done. You seem like a good man to me, you've got potential."
Nalion patted the Corporal on the shoulder and shot him another reassuring
smile.
"I have to leave now, Dane, I would like to spend more time talking, but
right now, another duty calls me off. We will speak again. Farewell."
Nalion nodded curtly, then walked back to his mount and returned to Cyndarius.
"He's one of us. His name is Dane Rubyn. He knows that things are
wrong here, more than most people here."

"Keep marching, men! I'm not about to start off my reputation with this

Hopefully, things would start to get back to normal now. In the back of his

Shaka remained on foot. If most of the soldiers had to march, he

He mused aloud to other adventurers: "So all we know is that Cyrodiil has

"Run!" cried Diamond "Cyndarius said to go -
" she was cut off, hit by a whizzing arrow. She screamed in pain.
"Come on, Shai!" barked Marein. "Let's go!" He hoisted
Diamond roughly over his shoulder again and darted across the rooftoop,
skipping onto the neighboring one.
A lone Azurite climbed up onto the roof in their way. Marein set Diamond down
behind him, reaching for his dagger.
She was young, tall, and looked like she had been an Imperial before an
Azurite. She was outfitted in a fully Daedric armor suit and held a
threatening-looking Dai-Katana...
There was a piercing shriek. Winged Twilight.
Marein and Shai both gasped. "No! You - you died at the Dawn!"
exclaimed Marein.
Celeste's laugh was short, clipped, and cruel. "I? Die at the Dawn? A lie!
Indeed, I was held in great respect amongst Azurites after my efforts ensuring
things went through!"
Marein backed away, shaking his head. "This can't be happening..."
Just a day earlier, he had asked himself, What if Celeste tried to kill
Loranna or one of the others? Now he was finding out.
Celeste feigned a forward stab, which Marein moved to block, but she instead
spun around him and swung in a slice at Diamond. Already agitated by the arrow
wound, Diamond shouted out, suffering, and collapsed in a heap on the ground.
"NO!" Marein screamed, turning to face her. This girl was his charge
- it was his fault she was here - "Celeste! It's me, how can you not
recognize me?"
"Oh, I recognize you. Why do you think it is I who is here to finish you?
I want to see you dead and done for!"
Tears stung at Marein's eyes, and Celeste moved again, trying to run Shai
through from behind.
Shai dropped into a split and dealt a blow to Celeste's legs, causing her to
buckle. Celeste swung again, raising her sword in an axe-like motion over
Diamond's unconscious body.
With an animal snarl, Marein leapt onto her, seizing the sword, fighting her
down, wrestling on the snow-topped with the Azurite. The Twilight flew down and
battered him with it's wings, clawing, scratching biting, and he screamed out
in pain - and Shai was there, tackling the Daedra and punching its ugly skull -
Celeste again moved against Diamond.
"No!" roared Marein. He would not let her. Before he knew what he was
doing, his hand was down his robes and out with his dagger, and then - he was
holding off the sword with his bare hand - Shai was losing to the Twilight -
his robe ripped open under strain - and abruptly the dagger plunged into
Celeste's heart.
Time seemed to freeze. A thousand volts of raw electrical power poured into
Celeste's body, and she twitched and yelled uncontrollably. Her hair burst into
flames.
The Twilight disappeared. Diamond moaned from below.
"No," whispered Marein, looking at his hands and his knife in horror,
"No. No! NO!"
Another arrow flew in and struck him square in the chest. For a moment, it
looked like he didn't notice, but then he snapped it out furiously, picked up
Diamond's limp form, and motioned for Shai to follow as he ran.

"The boy needs something to keep off the wind," another Nord said.
"Take my ring," the oldest of the men said. He was clearly no
warrior, but a Shaman, grizzled and ancient. "As long as you have it on
your hand, nothing on earth will knock you off your feet. Very useful when
casting spells; and useful on such a puny bridge."

The trip through Rift Pass was arduous, especially for the already-weary
troops, but nonetheless the legions made their way through the endless snow.
The new General was not the sort of man people wanted to let down, no matter
how worn-out they felt.
About a week into their journey, as night was starting to fall and camp was
being made, one of the scouts comes to Cyndarius's tent and salutes.
"Sir, we've found a group of refugees five miles south of our
position," he says. "No more than a couple dozen people, all children
and old men and women. Only one warrior in the whole lot from what we saw - a
big man with a red beard and an ebony axe and shield, and a huge sword on his
back."
The scout indicates the refugees on the map he drew up. "They look pretty
bad sir; most of the adults we saw were wounded, some heavily so."

Slyvos blushes a bit under all that fur... so luckily no one

As they reached the Gate of Dibella, Tris appeared, out of breath.
"The General says you need eight. If one has turned back, someone else
will have to come join you. So I'm going back to find someone. If I can't find
anyone, I'll have to pass the gates and come that way myself. You should

"My second gift of Kynareth," Goranthir smiled, showing them his

"I should get to my companions though," he said, starting off toward

"Adrian, I hear food is needed. I could carry that, if the option is

"Are you sure, Rubyn?" Questioned the Captain. "This job is more
fitting to a grunt, not an officer."
"I am sure, Captain. I wish to see what these refugees have to say for
themselves."
Adrian complied, and soon enough, Rubyn had a horse loaded down with food sacks

Though sluggish in the cold, the parraptons were still fast enough that the
ground passed under the scouts and Shaka quickly.
Shaka and Menvris are the first to see the refugees; barely four tents for two
dozen people, a fire in the middle of the camp, people huddled around with torn
blankets. Many were bandaged, and the whole group leeked tired, beat, at the
end of their ropes.
Even in the storm, the buzz of the parraptons eventually gave the scouts'
approach away; the refugees look up, old and young faces alike staring in the
sky fearfully, trying to track the strange sound. And one man, with a mane of
red hair and a beard to match, hefts an ebony shield and curses:
"Even in this blasted weather those Dunmer still have their giant bugs?!
The world truly IS mad!" Then, he frowns. " ... No Twilight screams
..." he mutters as people start moving for cover.
