Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized
individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel
#Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and
discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player
whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using
this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.
For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look
http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna, Female Nord: Loranna is in Ald Raathim's tavern The
Drunken Guar, having recently told her companions about the need for a group of
heroes who must reach beyond the spheres of the Divines in order to help mend
the rift between the realms of the living and the dead. She has also met
Diamond, who comes bearing two old friends ...
QUOTE(Sheogorath @ Aug 8 2005, 03:01 AM)
"What you were saying about people practicing fighting
together," Goranthir said, holding back while Tris was whispering to
Loranna. "I have a suggestion on that, if you'd like to hear it."
"What is it?" Loranna asks, eyebrows perking.

ooc summary:
Tris said goodbye to Barenziah, with a promise to "run up" to see her
soon - a promise he intends to keep. At the present time he's talking with the
group in the tavern about Loranna's revelations.
ic:
"We're not to the point of asking people to risk their lives, I don't
think," Tris said to Loranna. "It would be suicide, for all of us, to
take someone who wasn't able to work with the others. We're not begging for
people; we're asking for applicants and eliminating the ones who don't work
out."
He smiled at Goranthir. "I was hoping you'd have something to say. The
General can't be here, and none of us are genius tacticians."

Summary
Barenziah, Queen Mother of Morrowind; Elysana, Queen of Wayrest; Bosriel,
spooky vampire child ... All will return one day ... but today belongs to:
Garonthil. Handsome teenage ranger, able to communicate with all manners of
animals, and well trained and equipped for battle. He does not advertise it,
but many also know that he is the nephew of King Helseth of Morrowind, son of
King Reman and Queen Morgiah of Firsthold, and grandson of the legendary Queen
Mother and Regent of Morrowind, Barenziah.
QUOTE(Loranna @ Aug 8 2005, 03:10 AM)
"What is it?" Loranna asks, eyebrows perking.
"You know that I can communicate with animals," said Goranthil.
"I just spent this afternoon sparring with three guar. I told them I won't
hurt them, and they aren't to hurt me --" The young ranger looked to his
knee. "Well, not seriously. But we can arrange different combat
arrangements using them, or other animals too. Of course, I can't speak to all
creatures -- and some who I can speak with will want to hurt us no matter what
I say -- but it'd still be good practice."

from practicing with the guards, or just one another ..."

have the eight who work best with one another."

He took a deep breath. "Goranthir... on the plains of the dead, there were

"As for an Arena ... well, hmm. We have already about enough people, if
you count myself, Slyvos, you, Goran here, and then Shaka, Reichi, Anya, and
Isidor," Loranna continues. "However ... I think the idea works well.
This way, even those of us who can't go can offer aid by helping test those who
do go, and we'll have that much more chance to see ourselves in action and come
up with ways to work together."
"We could perhaps use the Arena in Vivec for this," she says.

"What I mean is... Aricyn, for example. You don't know him. But he has an
old wolf who fights at his side. Anya, she has a cliff racer. There are dragon
riders in the Capitol. I wonder if the right beast, rightly trained, could be
like adding an entire extra person to our force? Or more than a person."
"Goranthir's idea about building an Arena here has the advantage that we
would have more control over the organization of bouts," Tris said.
"Although I suspect that a little diplomacy on my part could get Vivec's
Arena running pretty much the way we want."

says with a bit of a grin. "I'd been thinking in fact that we ought to
have a Fighters Guild built here eventually; perhaps building a fighting arena
could be the first steps to that."
She frowns a bit, thinking. "People tend to like seeing arena bouts as
well and her Majesty and I had talked at length about how Ald Raathim could
grow in the next few years; it could be a worthwhile future investment too
..."

Goranthir relaxes, and smiles again. "We could begin by fighting guar, or
cliffracers, or kagouti, here. There'd be an understanding if any of the
animals were hurt, the offender would automatically be rejected from the
tournament and possibly punished beyond that, depending on whether it was accidental
or not. It'd be a way for people to hone their skills in a pretty safe

Goranthil thought a moment: "The tricky part is to figure out how to
select the right combination of champions. You can't just say that the
strongest fighter, or most powerful spellcaster is automatically in. It's about
teamwork, and the right chemistry ..."

"Chemistry is a hard thing to capture sometimes," she admits. "I
know Tris and I can work well together; we've been through Gemin and other
places before, we have an idea of how we each think. Slyvos and I used to be
telepathic; even nowadays, I have a fairly good idea how he thinks when it
comes to blasting bad guys. Still - that alone doesn't a team make."

"Chemistry is important," Tris said. "And there are combinations
of different schools of magic far more effective than any single school alone.
The focus on individual skill is wonderful as far as it goes, but in some ways
it makes the Imperial Legion, for example, less effective."
He was quoting Dragon; what did he know about tactics? But Goranthir was a
king's son. He probably had formal training in this, just as he had in the use
of a sword.

source of tactic know how."

they all respect. You need someone who knows the dynamics well enough that he

Dastril had chosen daggers as his weapon of choice. His opponent
had a shield and a longsword. A spell shield glowed upon both of them. Dastril
mostly just ducked the dunmer's sword, but then he had an idea. He couldn't
possibly get through the dunmer's defence to get a good hit at him without
being pierced by the sword. He started throwing daggers in a fast pace. The
dunmer caught the first two in his shield, but then some got through.
"Okay, okay, you won. But how did you do it? As I recall, you didn't have
that many daggers?" The dunmer said as Dastril approached. He said nothing
and put his dagger to his throat. "I didn't. I just made you thought I
did. Illusions. They made you lower your defence, thinking the battle was over,
so I could come and end it." Then he laughed.

Summary:
Nalion, a male Breton mage is currently staying in Ald Raathim. He has been
given an important task by Allerleirauh on which he is working. Over the last
couple of hours, he has spoken to various members of the current group, trying
to get to know the newer members better or catching up with old friends and
acquaintances. One of the old friends, Marein Night-Scar and his peculiar
appearance in the body - or was there more to it? - of a nordic girl called
Diamond, was troubling his mind.
/Summary:
Attending the conversation at the tavern, Nalion has at times given the one or
other comment on what was just said, yet he gradually sunk deeper into his
chair over the last hour and had trouble keeping his eyes open. The last days
had been tiring for him.

"I think there should be a Fighter's Guild here," he agreed.
"But we start off by building a place for people to show off their
skills. Then when there's a need for the Guild, it will come."
"Or perhaps after the Arena is built, we will build the guild around it."
Isidor looked thoughtful.

After the training, Dastril was sweating and thirsty. He
recalled that the Drunken Guar tavern had some good boozes, so he picked up his
stuff and walked there.
"Some flin, please," he said to the innkeep, who was still giving him
some odd looks.

"Remember, you might not only face warriors with weapons, but mages, too.
Those of you who provide magickal support was well as offensive capabilities
should think about useful spell combination. Not only classical spells like
fireballs or lightning, but those who are not as often seen in combat. Blinding
spells, for examples, drain skill spells, burden and drain strength to slow
them down. Dispel to remove beneficial effects from enemies.", the mage
suggested.
"You should also train to use your spells without endangering others,
practice targeting. Learning to predict the moves of the enemies and take steps
against them before they even know what happens to them."

Dastril saw some faces that oddly yes, seemed familiar. He
couldn't recall any names, but he definitely had seen them before. He decided
to ask them about it.
"Excuse me, do I know you?" he said to the argonian.

"We should remember not to rely on just one person to do all the spellcasting,
too. I've got some powerful custom absorb and fortify spells, but imagine this
scenerio: really tough fighter in heavy armor trying to break his way through
our lines. I cast my absorb strength spell on him, with the fortify strength
effect shoring up the one holding him back, while someone else casts
Disintigrate armor on him. One stroke, the enemy is weakened, and his armor
likely shorn through by our enhanced front line fighter."

Anya had remained for the most part silent as they talked about
preparations, until she remembered an idea she had, "I think I might be
able to think of somehting to improve sparring, especially with animals, and
more than likely allow us to spar with each other."
"We have a Mage's Guild right over their, and we have enchanters and the
like. While I was out with Lotus in the woods, I used him to improve my
accuracy and target aquisition since he's mroe agile than you'd think he should
be.I didn't worry about hitting him because he was so fast, but now that I'm
improving, there was a chance of hurting him, so I thought about enchanting my
arrows. A simple spell that casts on the strike that fortified his strength and
endurance by a little bit, and started a simple healing spell would allow me to
hit him and virtually no harm done what so ever.
"No this could be done with most weapons, since the enchantments wouldnt
have to be much, and would allow everyone to train with their prefered style,
and once we show the animals that we can't hurt them, I'd bet they'd be more
than willing to help out."
"This could also work for each other, and we could decrease the
enchantment strength bit by bit to train our bodies to take the pain, and we
could also give the enchantment something that feels like hurt, but no actual
harm is done, so we learn to try to avoid them too. We would still need to
learn to restrain our attacks, but then that's good too, it would teach us to
use only the force needed, so we don't over extend ourselves in actual
battle."

"I think those are good suggestions," Goranthir chimed in

Dear whoeverisreadingthis,
I write this letter to explain what ever events happened. I recently acquired
a rare amulet from the witches of Skyrim. It arrived this day with a raven
messenger. It is supposed to take this amulet back to them after I've used it,
or so the letter that came with it says. I am not yet quite sure what it's
purpose is, but today I shall try it. It may cause my death, or some other
unknown effect. None the less, I will try it on, for I have also found out,
that I have only few months left in my life. Shortly said, I am desperate. Do
not blame any of this to the innkeep, for he knows none of it.
Dastril Arachdint, a humble Spellsword
After reading it, he handed it over to Loranna.

leave one open to attack - as that Breton discovered. Various summonings can
wield weapons and don't require as much concentration to maintain ... though in
certain circumstances I could see the value of making an illusion of yourself
in multiple places at once ..."
"For training though ... hmm; what uses of illusion have you personally
used thus far for training?" Loranna asks.

He was silent for a moment. Shaka had suspected this was coming, but it still
hurt. He could understand now why he had heard the Legion frowned upon lovers
within the same units. if the relationship worked, it would breed resentment
among others for possible favoritism; if it failed, it would be hell to still
have to serve in proximity to the other.

"Unrelated to illusion, now, but I just remembered a book I read
once.", Nalion began. So far, we have talked about directly affecting the
enemy with spells or in direct close quarters combat. In that book, a Dunmer
army under the command of Vivec himself faught a legion of Emperor Reman III.
Vivec had the advantage of selecting the battleground and he changed it into a
swamp by letting his troops redirect a nearby river. It severly hindered
Reman's units and they lost that battle."
Nalion paused for a brief time, thinking and taking a sip from his wine.
"You could use a similar tactic. Ice spells to make the groud slippery,
for example. I learned in a hand-to-hand lesson by Reichi here that the footing
of a warrior is as important as a sharp blade. You could also use fire spells
to incinerate the surroundings and to force an approaching enemy to take a path

the enemy with spells or in direct close quarters combat. In that book, a
Dunmer army under the command of Vivec himself faught a legion of Emperor Reman
III. Vivec had the advantage of selecting the battleground and he changed it
into a swamp by letting his troops redirect a nearby river. It severly hindered
Reman's units and they lost that battle."
Nalion paused for a brif time, thinking and taking a sip from his wine.
"You could use a similar tactic. Ice spells to make the groud slippery,
for example. I learned in a hand-to-hand lesson by Reichi here that the footing
of a warrior is as important as a sharp blade. You could also use fire spells
to incinerate the surrondings and to force an approaching enemy to take a path
that you have perpared for, giving you an advantage."
"I'm not sure how well that will work," Tris said. "We won't be
in Tamriel; we won't even be in the Mundus."

have that advantage. Though ... the idea of making the ground slippery with ice

devise a strategy based on that," said Goranthir. "If we discover our

"This sounds reasonable to me, Goranthir. I tend to focus too much on
magickal aspects of combat at times. It's good to see one who has a more
unbiased view on things."
Nalion nodded in agreement, drained his glass and stood.
"I fear I have to leave now, though, my own duties are calling. It's been
good to see people sticking their heads together to think about what might

When Isidor woke the next morning, he wasted no time in rushing to Longhammer,
and requesting his gauntlets. "One ebony, and one Iron please." He
left the required gold, and walked out. He went to the mages guild after that,
to see about enchanting his amor. The enchanter was an old Dunmer woman, who
stood in a small room in the back of the guild. He dropped off his amor and
said "I'd like this to be enchanted with some sort of Restore Endurence or
Restore Strength spell, if you could." She replied with a nod and said
"For the whole set, 2,000 septims." Isidor handed over his gold and
said "Thank you" and walked out.

time I showed you true power." He advanced on the guard and threw himself
at his foe, His shield used as a battering ram, smacked into the guard and sent
him flying.
Kratos returned to the tavern and called the barkeep to his table,
"Ye..yes master Ordinator what...may I get you?" the barkeep said in
fear, "I will have your finest scrib jerky and your finest sujamma my
friend." The Ordinator was waiting for the arrival of one of his new found
companions.

Diamond walked out of her room sporting a new golden circlet for
the ever-precious sapphire - she wasn't letting it out of her sight (she
couldn't see it on her head, but it seemed safer there). She knew that her two
companions were with her, taking in everything she did, there to help her if
she needed them. Fortunately, they had given up on having conversations with
her unprompted, which had been immensely distracting.
Looking around the tavern area, she spotted one of Loranna's companions. Now
seemed like as good a time as any to strike up friendly conversation,
particularly after the earlier fiasco.

Falco turned and saw the ordinator. He practically fell out of his chair.
"Errr an ordinator, well uh... Bye" Falco leaped to his feet and
dashed out. He was unaware that anyone in his group knew Kratos. Falco was
quite wanted in Vivec. Thus tried to avoid Ordinators whenever possible. He was
secretly glad they were all dead. Now he was faced with the problem of being in

"I am fine although I would like to know where that damned barkeep is with

accepted it with one hand demonstrating his strength from years of fighting and
protecting.
"I would like to know how the Arena is faring on it's construction, have

the arena again after all the time spent away from his regular matches in

"You've got a point, Reichi. I don't know whether we'll even have our

Earlier This Morning ...
"You want to build an arena?" Helgi Hagslayer had asked Loranna, his
youthful face set in a warm smile. "I must say I hadn't expected to hear
you ask for that ..."
Loranna shrugged. "I know. Still, I need one - preferably as quick as
possible ..."
"One can make a flat patch of land in about a day, with enough
hands," Helgi said. "Anything beyond that will take more time. Just
how elaborate an arena do you require?"
Loranna sighs. "Eventually, I'd like it to be fairly elaborate," she
says. "But right now - we need something and we need it fast."
"Then you shall have something and have it fast," Helgi said, his
grin growing wider. "We Nords have built much of Ald Raathim; we shall now
build its arena."
===
During The Day
And so the rugged men of the north had gone into Ald Raathim, armed with tools.
An area needed to be fenced off, the land made flat. The Lady had said
something about 'some sort of cover, for ranged fighters' and so men were sent
to gather some largish rocks to pile up in a spot.
It was good, honest work, and the Nords were as good at building as they were
at fighting. Had not they helped turn Ald Raathim from the sleepy village to
the growing town it was today? Was not the castle itself originally built by
their forefathers during the invasion of Morrowind long ago?
The Nords went to work, and the Lady of Daruhn oversaw their progress, using
her magic and her potions to lend greater strength and stamina to the workers.
When the sun was just starting to set, Loranna and Helgi both looked upon the
day's handiwork with broad grins. A good-sized area just beyond the buildings
that lay closest to the castle had been made flat, a couple pile of rocks offering
some cover in the corners. A wooden fence had been set up, marking off the
area, high enough that stray arrows should not go too far.
"It's wonderful," Loranna said, and Helgi nodded, hefting his shovel.
"I'm glad you like it, Lady," Helgi responded. "When you are
ready to expand on this, you have but to come and ask."
And the Nords returned to their homes, satisfied at the work they had done and
the gold that now lined their pockets for their hard work. And Loranna sighed,
and stretched, and decided to find herself a hot meal and a nice warm bath to
rest herself and get the dust out of her hair.

Dastril finally closed the book, and yawned, although more
becouse of the boredom than tiredness. He got up to his feet, and went outside.
He decided to go and see how the arena-project was proceeding.
It seemed to be finished. It was yet sort of primitive, but that had been
expected from such a small amount of time to work on it. He went to sit on the
fence, and started to make battle plans for the future.

Isidor had paid in the bar, and went to look for Falco, when he saw the new

Ald Raathim, the previous night
Nalion again held his nightwatch on top of one of Ald Raathim's towers. His
gaze swept over the clear night sky in search of a sign which would bring him
one step further in his assigned task. The past days had been tiring, both to
body and mind and his eyes began to hurt from concentratedly staring upwards.
It was cold and the mage would probably end up with a stiff neck for some days
if he kept looking sky.
A faint light out of the corner of his eye caught his attention and he just
wanted to discard it as a torch on the near hill, but it seemed to be moving
too fast for a simple lantern. The mage turned towards it and focused. It was
no torch, it was a small shooting star traveling through the sky at an amazing
pace. Nalion followed it's trail until another falling star from a different
direction came into view. The mage began to smile and it broadened even more as
he saw a third piece of matter from aetherius appearing. The three shooting
stars seemed to head towards each other from three different angles and where
they met, for an eyeblink, a single flash of light could be seen.
Nalion nodded satisfied, looked up again at the skies and whispered. "Thank
you.
Stepping down from the tower, he returned to his room and took the traveling
bag he had prepared the day before. He drew out a parchment and with quick
lines wrote a letter, adressing it to Loranna and Tris.
********
Dear Loranna, dear Tris,
Marobar Sul once told a tale about the importance of where and the final lesson
was to "learn the importance of where you strike your blows." Loosely
adapted to the burden I was chosen to carry, that would mean I have to find the
place where I have to strike.
Means of proper determination of mundial locations are few and for certainty,
many points of reference have to be used to locate one's own or the sought
one's position. Three out of thirteen minus one, by the plea of their guardian
set out on a journey and looked into the world for that which I seek. Each of
them sent out their queries and by means of time and distance, their
overlapping information minus the influence of Oblivion has returned an answer.
I know the one who I look for and now I know where to find him and this means
that the time has come to seek him out and plead my - our - case. I have to
leave the safe haven of Ald Raathim now and - like sailors looking at the stars
above - will go on a journey.
Take my thanks for your hospitality as well as my best wishes and blessings for
your own tasks and, until we see each other again,
farewell!
Nalion

It was sunset, and Shaka was baptizing the Arena.
He had been slacking off in his training as of late, so he stood in the field
with his tunic off, having completed a ten-mile run. Shaka marvelled at the
endurance the ghost Allania had given him. He hadn't had this stamina in about
fifteen years, he estimated.
Now he practiced the fast unsheathing of Bitter Mercy. It had to become as
mindless as it was swift, since he might have little warning of an enemy
someday. Again. Again.
As he practiced, he couldn't keep his thoughts from turning to the war ahead.
Shaka had always been driven to turn a problem over in his hands, looking for
the weak spots as well as the sharp facets that could cut. Talk of battling an
ages-old legion of dead warriors had at first struck him as insane, suicidal.
But he was no longer as sure.
He drew the Spear again, practicing thrusting it into an enemy behind him.
Again, faster. Now to the left side. Now right. All the while, keeping his eyes
unfocused.
As Shaka thought about it, it might not be so simple as to picture a million or
a billion undead enemies for each of the Eight. First, not all of the dead
would want to fight, would be driven by rage. That winnowed the enemy from the
start. Eternity couldn't be as simple as the Nords' Sovengaarde, with its
afterlife of forever fighting and feasting.
Then there would be the legions of the dead who fought each other at first,
eventually to tire of it. There must be a myriad of new warrior-monks in the
afterlife, withdrawn to whatever refuge they could find, in eternal meditation.
Shaka was now practicing sweeping strikes with Bitter Mercy, using the flanges
like a sword. What most in the group didn't know yet was that the four flanges
had another purpose: sword-catchers, sword-breakers if possible.
So the dead were winnowed somewhat. Who were left? Shaka could picture two
types of eternal warriors. First were the stupid, the brutes who didn't care
that their age-long battles with each other were futile. Secondly, and most
dangerous, the war-lovers, those who lived to be at each others' throats.
Forever.
Shaka paused, sweating in the twilight. However small or great the percentage
of the dead who would fight the Eight, Shaka thought something would hold true.
If they tried to slug it out toe-to-toe with the evil dead, they would lose.
This wasn't some free-for-all between Nords who had decided to put on the bear
shirt.
No, he suspected they would have to out-think the enemy. He remembered for a
moment the old Akaviri principle he had once read: " ' Enemy advances, we
retreat; Enemy retreats, we pursue.' "
Shaka stretched his neck in a circle and decided to call it a day. He loped
back to the castle to clean up.

That afternoon, Diamond gathered together what was left of her
money and walked the streets of Ald Raathim, in search of a place to stay. Her
specifications were very specific: she was looking for a two-story house where
she could set up a shop and live simultaneously. She wanted a good view of both
the tavern and the castle from her studio, so that she could be there with
Loranna and the others when she was needed. What she found was quite close to
these specifications - a place half the distance between the castle and the
tavern and a little bit removed from both. It was the property of a clothier
who had apparently been driven out of business by another down the road, and
was going to try his luck elsewhere. Gold changed hands and the proper
authorities were informed, and Diamond was in the house within a few hours.
Completely out of money now, she got to work on a new piece: a painting of the
castle at Ald Raathim as seen from a distance and an angle on a rainy night.

"So when you go, what am I going to do?"
Luxi and Ahjaar where in bed, Ahjaar was reading while Luxi threw questions at
her.
"I'm not sure yet, babe."
"What if your gone long? Who will take care of me?"
"You don't need someone to watch you, Luxi, your 12."
"What about food, huh?"
"You can walk down to the Drunken Guar. Shell will fix you
something."
Shell was a cook at the Drunken Guar, and had made good freinds with Ahjaar and
Luxi.
"Well what if I'm jumped, huh? I don't have a dagger to defend myself
with."
"Then I'll buy you one tommarow. Plus, there are plenty of guards here. If
you get attacked they'll help you."
"What if Hankarlic comes back?"
Ahjaar sighed. "He wont, he's dead."
Ahjaar had not heard that he was still alive, she had thought him to be dead.
"Are you sure?"
Ahjaar closed her book and put it on the side table, blowing out the light. She
kissed Luxi on the forehead
"I'm sure."
"Night mom."
"Night"

Falco was finishing up his murderous plot on the rootop of an
Ald Raathim house. "So Lets see I lure him to the window of the castle

the water. Seems like a good plan." H curled up on the rooftop, and went
to sleep, believeing Krato to be waiting for him at his room.

Ash had left the cave with everyone else, intending to go to
Sadrith Mora. Placing his foot onto the boat, a tremor came over his body. A
voice could be heard in his head. It was the voice of an old lady, "Death
awaits you! Go not to the living city. Return to the towers of iron, here in
the north." the voice of Vaernima was painful to hear. Ash's body shook
with the intensity of the agony. "I... must go." he said, turning
quickly away from the boat and moving down the pier. "I must seek the
Raven" thought Ash, "I hope he still lives."
A short time later, Ash was looking at the entrance to the Dwemer tower.
Pushing open one of the double doors, he entered into darkness and the stench
of corpses. Only two dim dwarven lights could be seen through the darkness,
their dull hum drowned out by the sound of running machines. "I can't see
a thing" muttered Ash, drawing an iron ring from his pocket. Gripping it
tightly, he activated the enchantment on the ring, summoning a Flame Atronach.
The beast appeared in an instant, its bright flesh illuminating the corridor.
Ash descended the stairway and came to a four-way corridor. Stepping forward,
his foot slid on something wet. Looking down, Ash saw a thick line of blood,
trailing down the hallway. It looked as if a bleeding body had been dragged to
the machine room. Turning to his right, Ash walked as silently as he could, his
daedra following him. He drew both of Blade's adamantium swords, and looked
around the corner. In the room he saw the back of a beastly creation. It
appeared to be a mass of bodies sewn together into one ghastly monster. Plated
with metal sown into its skin, the creature stood roughly seven feet tall,
despite being hunched down. At the top was a horned head, with two bladed
horns, each one about two feet long. The crude helmet that had been fashioned
over the monster's head revealed that it was, in fact, four heads, having two
sets of eys on each to look in all directions. A thick body supported four
muscular arms, each ending in twisted, rusty claws. To support this mass, the
creature had eight spider-like legs, each with a metal pincer fixed to the
foot. A long tail protruded from the base of the monster's back. The only part
not covered in rusty plates was the back of the creature's neck, which seemed
to hold an assortment of soulgems feeding a lightning enchantment that pulsed
over the beast's body. Ash looked down to see that the creature was devouring
the corpse of a wood elf. The monster was too pre-occupied with its current
prey to notice Ash's head around the corner. Pulling back around the corner,
Ash rested his back on the metal wall. "That explains the blood" he
said to himself "and the stench" he said, walking back down the
hallway. His atronach moaned in agreement. Turning right, Ash found a ladder
and climbed up to a circular hatch. "This is where you leave." Said
Ash, tucking his ring back into his robe, causing the atronach to dissapate in
a flash of light and smoke.
Pushing up on the hatch, Ash emerged into total darkness. He heard a voice that
seemed to vibrate with magic.
"Who dares to enter? This is the lair of Sorkvild the Raven! Speak now or
join the dead." said the voice.
"I am Rymlidisen Ashtillepim, servant of Vaernima. I have returned under
order of my master. I come to seek your knowledge." said Ash, summoning a
ball of light to his hand. The illuminating magic revealed a ghost standing in
front of Ash, still holding the features of a Nord. "Sorkvild, what
happened to you?"
"I have become... something different." said Sorkvild, looking at his
hand. "But why are you here? It's been over a decade since you last came
to visit me."
"I'm not sure, to tell you the truth. Vaernima sent me here. She told me
to learn. I do not question her, I only obey." said Rymlin, looking arond
at the necromancer's lair.
"Well" said Sorkvild, picking up a book "You have come at... a
bad time. As you can see, I'm not what I used to be. In any case, I still owe
you, so I will do whatever I can."

7th. The sky of blood. Death be avanged. Red Life has come for
all.
Flowers. A whole field of them. Walking. Happy.
A growl. A scream. Hiding. Waiting. Running again.
Red eyes. A growl. A claw slashes. Blood.
Running. Jumping. Climbing. Falling.
Ahjaar wakes up, but she cannot move. She cannot open her eyes.
She can feel something. She knows something is at the foot of the bed.
Ahjaar opens her eyes to see Luxi's face, still asleep.
She knows something is there. In the room with them.
It stands at the foot of the bed.
Ahjaar's tail is puffed up with fear, her fur stands on end.
She slowly sits up to face the thing...
"Bartimeous?"
Her dead husband's foggy form stands at the foot of the bed.
It does not face her, Ahjaar can only see his back.
"Who are you?"
The figure does not move.
Ahjaar watches the figure. It sits still.
It stares into a mirror that sits on the dresser, opposite of the bed. Ahjaar
looks, but the ghost has no reflection.
"Bartimeous?" Ahjaar trys again.
This time the figure swings around.
"HOW COULD YOU HAVE DONE THIS TOO ME? YOU KNEW THE PUNISHMENTS! YOU
KNEW IF I QUIT I WOULD DIE! YOU HIPNATIZED ME! YOU KILLED ME AHJAAR!
Ahjaar shook her head in shock. "No... I didn't know! It wasn't my fault!
"IT WAS YOUR FAULT, AHJAAR! YOU ARE THE REASON I AM DEAD! YOU ARE THE
RESON WHY LUXI SHALL BE DEAD TOO.!"
Ahjaar was sobbing now. "No! I didn't mean too.. it wasn't my fault!"
"HANKARLIC STILL LIVES, AND HE IS LOOKING FOR REVENGE! HE WILL KILL
LUXI! HE WILL LEAVE YOU TO SUFFER!
Ahjaar screamed at him. "NO!"
"IT'S YOUR FAULT!"
----------------------------------------------------
Ahjaar woke up, tears pouring down her cheeks.
Sun filled the room through the window.
It was a dream.
But was it true?

The villagers had been gathering to watch the construction of
the arena, as primitive at it was, with excitement. Many had come from far from
Ald Raathim, refugees of the Blue Dawn, and they told their neighbors about the
great arena fights they had seen in Vivec, Mournhold, and Necrom. One of the
peasants had even been to the Imperial City and told tales of the epic fights
he had seen there.
The talk was suspended at the sound of a thunder of footsteps, like an army
approaching. When ten Alit came through the trees into the cleared out arena, a
woman screamed, and a man shouted, “Call the guards!”
“Yes,” Goranthir called back. “Call them, and tell them to bring their wives
and children too! I like an audience!”
The battle began. One young man in ebony armor, armed with a large stick,
against ten Alit.
The Alit were hammy actors. Whenever hit with the stick, they rolled in the
dust, in dramatic death throes. They were less talented with their attacks.
Though fearsome rushing at the young Dunmer with mouth agape, it was obvious
they were holding back, trying not to hurt him.
An hour later, the audience was applauding, and Goranthir bowed, smiling,
wiping the sweat and dirt from his face.

Anya left the Mages Guild with Lotus in tow, thinking back to
what just happened, staring at her Akaviri amulet with a puzzled look.
"Are you then enchanter?"
"Why yes, serjo, how might I help you this lovely young lady."
"I was wondering if you could help me enchant this amulet."
"No problem at all. Let me look at it, which specific enchantm- This is
odd."
"What is it."
"It's already enchanted. See the pulse, that's not a reflection of the
light, but a glow."
"Oh, ok." Anya looked disheartened, hopefully it would still be
useful to her abilities. "What is it?"
The enchanter closed her eyes and hovered a hand over the amulet, "It's
enchanted with a... it has a... Confound it, I'm terribley sorry, I can't
figure it out. I can feel the magic, but I can't discern it's power. My
suggestion would be to find a safe area to try it."
"Thank you, here's a few coins for the trouble."
And tried it she did, but with no avail. She had used enchanted items before,
but this was different. Not matter how hard she tried, nothing came out. Maybe
it's a constant effect enchantment, but I don't feel any different. I'll just
hang on to it, maybe it'll reveal itself later.
Anya stumbled onto the newly built arena to the half end of Goranthir's mock
battle and giggled at his obvious liking of the adoration from the crowd. After
the people finished cheering, and the young ranger stopped showing off she
walked up to him.
"Goranthir? That's a neat trick, one I don't use much. Why didn't you
meantion you had a beast tongue when we first met?"
Lotus hovered beside her, and clacked his beak at Goranthir. Anya shot him a
facetious hurt look.

“Didn’t I tell you?” Goranthir grinned, still breathing hard. “I guess I don’t
advertise it much. I can’t say it’s tremendously useful most of the time.
People say they’d like to know what animals are thinking, but to tell you the
truth, most of it is pretty filthy and naughty, or just dull …”
He made a light clicking sound at Lotus and laughed, “Present company excluded,
of course.”
A little boy reached through the fence to touch one of the Alit, which reared
back, alarmed at his approach.
“No, no, they’re dangerous, you shouldn’t touch,” Goranthir said quickly.
Turning back to Anya, he added. “I wanted the peasants to accept the Alit, but
… I was thinking about asking Loranna to make the eastern foothills a sanctuary
for them, and other wild animals.”

pointed to her pointy ears, "Bosmer, remember? I don't do it much though,
I usually save it for Lotus, who I've found to rise above most creatures,
intellegence-wise."
"You are special though, I've never heard of one so young, a Dunmer at

Shaka really did think a wildlife preserve was worth pursuing. Nobles had
private game preserves, of course, with poachers punished severely if caught;
but preserving wildlife for its own sake . . . This was something new in the
world, and Shaka felt it was overdue.
He had wondered, sometimes, how many animals had died when Red Mountain had
gone up. It must be incalculable. Everyone had focused on saving human and
other race refugees, but perhaps it was time to think of the other costs that
Vvardenfell had paid.

Unfortunately all he could do was make a gurgling sound and twitch.
Isidor picked up the Argonian carried him over to the healer's hut, and saw the
handsome Imperial, Egalius Soccitus, sitting at his desk, writing. Isidor
placed Falco on the ground and said "I scared him, he jumped, can you fix
him?"

Egalius Soccitus looks up from his paperwork, the illusion of good looks
vanishing as he sees he's facing a big hairy Nord and an Argonain. "Drat;
was hoping it'd be that blond Breton girl who thought she got shot in the head
with an arrow ..." he mutters.
"So you broke your friend here huh? Gotta be careful; nine out of ten
deaths can be attributed to accidents at the home," Egalius says as he
looks Falco over. "Okay, let's see; one Hearth Heal, a regular healing
potion, an ice spell for that bump on his head ..."

With growls and barks, which the handsome young ranger issued forth, fully

They moved into a circle, beady eyes narrowed, oversized mouths hanging open. Though
