The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: High Rock Hijinks

Posted by: Loranna May 28 2005, 03:32 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.

Thank you, and have fun!

Summary for Loranna:

Loranna is in the House of Dibella in Cyrodiil, having been initiated into the temple. She has been posited a question by her confessor, Harman, and ponders it while enjoying his flute playing and the birds in the atrium.

Summary for Gram:

Gram has recently fought the ghost of his father, who accused Gram of being unworthy of the Pyrel family name. In a battle in the graveyard near the Mage's Guild, Gram finally defeated his father and was left with his father's claymore, the mighty Flametongue. He has also seen the Orc warrior Gris, and backed down from an implied challenge - for the first time in his life, seemingly. This moment of cool-headedness sits uneasily with the firery Nord warrior.

Summary

Nulfaga is in Shedungent, quite barking mad. She's given Solin a cockatrice's egg and some hints on how to use it to end the hauntings.

King Gothryd is in Castle Daggerfall, consulting with the Archmagister of the Mages Guild, after they've decided to close the Mages Guilds in the kingdom, while they investigating the supposed necromantic threat of the hauntings.

Bosriel is in Solunastra, where she's made a new friend in the other outcast, Tamne.

Queen Elysana is in Wayrest, conducting her own investigations, and having very sleepless nights, which are making her even more paranoid than usual.

Daggerfall - Solunastra

Gram returns to Solunastra, intent on finding his daughter or her man. Long hours spent drinking had only managed to delay the realization that he would need to talk to Loranna, and so he searches, hoping she didn't step back to that Dark Elf castle she ruled.

Loranna, near as he could tell, was not around; that left looking for the Khajiit. Gram looks for Slyvos.

Posted by: Dagoth Lich May 28 2005, 04:31 AM

Gram would find the reclusive khajiit in his and Loranna's room, lying on the bed looking at the ceiling, contemplating what direction his new life is going to take itself... and a bit aggitated about the mage's guilds being shut down. How was Loranna gonna get back, eh?

A few loud knocks and a rumbled "You in there l - Slyvos?" got Gram admittance to Slyvos's room; the redhaired Nord frowns into his beard as he sees Slyvos lying listlessly and staring upward.

Reminds me of the times I stared up at the stars wondering if I'd ever make anything of myself, Gram thinks.

"Come now lad; what's with that long face?" Gram asks, pulling up a chair and seating himself down. "Has my daughter run off to go check on her Dark Elf house or gone shopping and left you all alone?"

The gauntlet of heroes is a wierd place. On the plane of oblivion, it is eight rooms, each containing one containing a solitary hero. In order to pass the fourth test and retake her freedom, Maranda Binnie, the heroine of this RP (he he) must battle through these eight rooms.

The first room was the hall of ale, where Maranda faced the orc nord, Red the
Mad. In a furious battle, Redd the Mad was tricked into falling in the sea of Ale that surround the arena. The second, the hall of mirrors, where Maranda had to face the Mirror dwelling Centuar, Issac. Faced with an enemy she could not harm, Maranda smashed the mirror in the room, making Issac run into a wall. Very painful for poor Issac indeed. After which, Maranda had to face the Puppetmaster Altmer, Elverere in the hall of strings. Poisoned, Maranda could not face all the puppets alone, let alone strike at the puppetmaster herself, so she summoned Flamey, the flame monarch t burn away all the strings. Maranda won by default. The Hall of Dolls was next, where Maranda faced the balarena girl dancing arisa, who could control dolls with the sound of music. Maranda was heavily wounded during this battle, but managed to defeat Arisa by sending summons to defeat her.

Next Maranda had a nice long break at Gauntlet beach, as this was the halfway point, but after which, Maranda faced the Imperial Nightblade Cerius, in the halls of Illusion. Maranda dispelled the illusion and slayed Cerius rather easily, with a simple dispell spell. Next was the room of Disco, where Maranda faced the evil, Syringe wielding DJ Paul, and his army of disco dancing Daedra. However, by clever useage of a powerful ice spell, Maranda defeated him easily. Only the Redguard Lacoriz, paitently waiting on the Hall of the Battlefield Purched on top of a Steep High Mountian, and lord Landon himself, in the Collaseum of Champions await. Yet the noble Duke Drevorus has been sent by his Mistress, Meridia to scheme up the fifth and final test. What will this darstardly test be?

To find out, Read on!

(but I dont feel like typing anymore right now, so perhaps not)

He sighed a bit, sitting up as Gram came in.

'she's just a bit busy with her 'initiation' thing... my guess, I missed out on something really good..'

He casually threw a pillow across the room, hitting the doorknob surprisingly.

"Women and their initiations," Gram chuckles. "Aye lad, if what I know of those temples is even half true ..."

He stops in mid sentence, belatedly realizing that it was perhaps a little tactless to reminisce about his times in Dibellan temples to a man whose finace was being intitiated.

"Well," he rumbles, clearing his throat, "it's been my studious observation that times like this are made much more palatable by good mead or ale; you should get yourself down to one of the taverns. Just avoid that Scuttled Rat place I'm told."

Gram grins, his face beaming with Nordic Wisdom.

Sly shook his head, sighing again.

'I tend to avoid getting drunk, helps me keep away from embarressing or unwelcome situations... '

He picked up one of his restore health potions Loranna made, and poured it into a bowl on the floor by the bed. From under it, a small animal came out. A small mouse to be precise. it looked like it had a few broken limbs.

"No easier way to get your mind off your troubles," Gram chuckles ...

Gram raises his eyebrows as Slyvos tends to the wounded mouse. "Usually when a rodent is that hurt tis better to just let it die," he says, watching as the mouse - which seemed to trust Slyvos - lapped at the potion and soon was walking on all four limbs again.

"Does Loranna know you tend to mice?" he asks, refraining from making feline and mice jokes. "You're a strange, mysterious man, Slyvos; you built massive golems of raw destruction and you tend to the meekest creatures."

He coughs a bit. "Which brings me to a question that's been on my mind since we accidentally blew up your old tower; just what do you do to sustain yourself, now that your old place is no more? What plans do you have?"

Summary
Reichi, the Dunmeri Male Werewolf, and Tohe the Breton male Werewolf are still in Solunastra, doing stuff of no note whatsoever. Well...
-----

Reichi sat outside the kitchen, bored, and now hungry that he had finally finished all that bristleback Boar he nabbed in Solstheim. He wondered if the Orcish cook would be scared enough by a Werewolf to cower in fear or flee long enough for him to nab something. Reichi smirked, Nah.. he thought, She'd just hit me with that spoon...

-----

Tohe wandered out of Solunastra, in a random alleyway. Seeking something non-boring. Guildhouses had a tendancy to be very boring. At least this one was for now. The sounds of the city began to fade, the chatter of people, the barking of vendors, esspecially pie vendors, the occaisonal shout or fight, all began to fade, become quiet. It was dark, too. In the dark alleyway, Tohe heard the footfalls of armoured feet. He began to wonder his logic in entering a dark alley. Thats where stuff like this always happened. Dark Alleys had a bad reputation.

The footfalls stopped, a dark outline could be perceived of several armored figures. For some odd reason, they had aimed halberds at him. Tohe hated those blasted things, of course, there was little time to reflect on how annoying a polearm with the capacity to act as a ranged weapon was. Damn ghosts, why did these guys have to come back? There was a shout of "FIRE!", and the instruction was carried out.

A alleycat ran out of the alleyway, rather singed, smoking too.

He chuckled a bit, not really sure himself.

'to tell the truth, I'm really not sure. the only skills I have are my magic and my music. And that's basically all I really remember how to do after 4000 years of not being alive. Well, besides what I gotta do to... you know what, forget I was about to say anything right there.'

He felt it was not best to talk about that to the woman's dad tongue.gif

"A man ought to be able to support himself," Gram declares. "If I'd have listened to that advice myself more in my youth Loranna might have had a more pleasant childhood. Surely you can make something out of whatever magic you know - you know something more than raising mouldy old bones, right?"

He decides not to make anything from Slyvos's expression - for now.

The children were flowing with youthful energy and mischievousness, and therefore nearly impossible to control by even the best school master, and Arynel was not this. Even so, the Breton was not without skill in his own right, and the mass of children were somewhat more peaceful now that they had been given something to work on.

Several boys had folded their papers into gliders, and were running down the hall to see who could score the longest flight. Several girls were seated around the room, braiding each other’s hair, and gossiping. The rest of the children were busy putting pen to paper, writing and drawing and sharing their creations, and one little boy would draw or write a little bit then tear the paper into bits and ask for a new one.

Arynel sat in the corner with Sen Yedda in his lap; the Breton’s head was groggy.

'like I said, I can play music... and most of my magic is still intact, so I guess adventuring is all I got for now... though, I've got all I could ever want right now. No need to mess all of that up trying to get more.'

He sighed a bit.

'that's something I should have known from the beginning...'

Doll is in the Guildhouse, having asked Nalion to give her more time before she decides what her feelings for him are.

Allerleirauh is at Solunastra. She has been making plans with Solin to deal with Gothryd and the Mages's Guild temporarily.

Tamne was last seen wandering around the docks with Bosriel. However, Leseth is secretly keeping an eye on the girls, so they ought to be all right.

Tris is sleeping the sleep of the just... well, sleeping very soundly, in any case... in the House of Dibella in
Cyrodiil City, after a night's hard work.

"There's nothing wrong with reaching for adventure and glory," Gram says. "That's been the way of the Pyrels since as far back as we can trace, reaching all the way to the dawn of the second age when the snake men took over the empire."

"And adventuring is good excersice too," he chuckles. "... Though sometimes, I must admit, it's not as steady an income as one would hope. If it were, again - Loranna'd a had a happier childhood, and her mother might still be alive."

Gram is smiling, but his smile does not quite reach his eyes.

Gram nods his head, a small gesture that causes his mane of hair to bob about. "The Pyrels have many heroes among their number, both great and small; songs are still sung about my great-grandfather's victory over the orcs and his trials in finding King Orgnum's coffer, which has wealth everlasting for as long as you possess it. Before I was even old enough to hold a sword I knew my lot in life was to follow in my family's footsteps, find glory and adventure in the wide world and bring more honor to the Pyrel name. While my father showed me the way to hold and swing the axe and to move the shield to block my grandfather would sing the songs of our family's heroes, and my father's fondest wish was that I match or exceed his grandfather, and to that end he constantly extolled me to do better, to grow stronger, to move faster and be more canny."

Gram chuckles. "And by the age of seventeen, I had had enough of my father's constant declarations that my current skill was not yet enough and went to go prove that I'd learned my lessons well, and that was the last I saw of him until the other night, when he came to settle the dispute we always had about my worth as a Pyrel."

"Yes, I'd have Loranna know of her family history; many of her forefathers were brave men and women who she can be proud to number herself among."

"Mayhap," Gram says, starting to wonder why Slyvos likes to throw pillows around; it must be a mage thing. "Still somehow never a kind word to me escaped his lips until I sunk Frostkiss into his ghostly chest last night."

For a long moment, both men were silent.

" ... I suppose in that you and I have something in common, somewhat," Gram suggests. And then he lapses into a quiet silence, as he and Slyvos watch the restored mouse skitter about a bit.

Daggerfall City, High Rock

Any one who saw this dunmer standing in the street would have mistaken him for a knight. A wealthy one at that too. He stood in the square, looking at a building to the southwest. No one here would have recognized him. Yet if a Redguard named Shardie was still alive, she would know him as the sword merchant who sold her the Whitegold Sword. A young man, he looked to be a squire ran up to the knight
"My lordship, I have done what you have asked" the squire said
"Brilliant. Now, here is some scooma, hand it out to school children" the knight said
"So how is things?" the squire asked
"It is a sanctuary. Aparently the ones who we must take are in that building... but for some reason, we can not touch it. We must scout out the position well, and take out prey when they leave the building... what are you waiting for, squire, hand out that scooma!"
"Yes, my Lord," the squre said, scurring off

Duke Drevorus continued to watch, and wait... his illusion would not faulter.

OOC Summary:
Nalion, male Breton mage, currently resides in Solunastra, Allerleirauh's Guildhouse in Daggerfall. After his last conversation with Doll, he had kept quiet and very much to himself, his mind and heart working on what she said to him. He had promised to give Doll time, and so he would do.

Cyrodiil, House of Dibella

Tris couldn't remember the last time he'd deliberately skipped his morning workout because he felt too lazy. He skipped his morning visit to Herwyn too, but that wasn't laziness exactly; it was simply too late by the time he woke up. Skipping the visit to Herwyn simplified matters. It meant he wasn't going to Wayrest, so he didn't need to make up excuses not to visit Ymalna at his father's house.

He wondered if she'd had the baby yet. He should buy her something, something nice, while he was in the
Imperial City.

The tactical sensations of last night still clung to him. He felt warm and pleasant and very relaxed, not at all given to worry. Emaera, his confessor, was always right. Sometimes it was good to let go, to let other people tell you what to do, not to feel any guilt or concern because just this once, it wasn't your choice. Maybe that was why men had invented Emperors.

He wandered through the House of Dibella, looking for Loranna. He found her confessor, Harman - just Harman and the rock garden and the birds listening. Harman turned fierce white eyes on him as if he were an inferior listener, and Tris went away.

He found Loranna at last, in the kitchen of the temple. Doing of all things - bar work. She was learning the finer points of Imperial wines and how to serve them, from the
Temple hospitallers. From the looks of things, they sampled while they worked.

"Save me anything?" Tris asked. "We should probably be getting back soon. Although I'm enjoying the break, no ghosts on hallowed ground."

They left Dragon in charge, and delivered Sen-Yedda to her nurse to be fed.

The two of them emerged in a private place, a garden not unlike the garden they had left behind downstairs. Except that here, no flowers rotted on the branch; colors were hotter, whites mistier, and scents filled the air like music.

"Gothryd wants to search the Guildhouse," Allerleirauh said. "Elysana stirred up the Mages's Guild, and the Mages's Guild are thrashing around causing trouble for everyone. He can't search it, of course; although it's been my experience the guards are incapable of noticing the things wrong with this house, it wouldn't do for one to fall through the floor upstairs."

She told him the plan they had come up with.

"It depends on Solin, and the
Clockwork City; but if we have to, we can take the reins from here ourselves. Many things are possible here. You see already that we call into being whatever we need." Which was true. She gestured towards a fountain that stood at the center of the garden. Within the rippling waters, the guildhouse in Daggerfall took shape.

Not until she had finished explaining the day's business did she look at him. Then, for the first time in a very long time, she smiled. "Are you taller? You look taller, here."

Tris opened his mouth to say one thing, and found himself saying another.

"Lonely," he said. "I miss Ciel. He's so busy, we never talk. When we were fighting for our lives, I wished we had more time. Now that we have it, I wish we were fighting for our lives."

The Guild Guide at the Mages's Guild proved to be a problem. When Tris and Loranna stated their destination, there was a pause, and the Guide left, to converse with the Magister. Tris stiffened, knowing that there was a warrant for Loranna's arrest in the
Imperial City. But the trouble was of another sort.

"Can't send you to Daggerfall, the Guilds there are closed. I can send you to Hammerfell, and you can get a boat."

"Then that's what we'll do," Tris said smoothly.

In the streets of Sentinel, he turned and looked at Loranna.

"That was weird. This is all starting to be a little too much."

“A shelter once trounced is a haven no longer,” Arynel said, “may ours remain always secure.”

The Breton paused to take a quick glance down at his shoes. “Taller? I would say I am tall enough in either case, my stride takes me where I wish to go and my legs reach all the way to the ground.”

"You walk swiftly for one with no destination in mind," she said, smiling. "Then there's the matter of the egg. As you know, it has been difficult to bring us all together in the Provisional House at once; and separated, we fight with less than a third of our strength. I see what must be done, but it seems impossible to protect us all. Yet that is my duty; you have done yours with the sword, Solin with his egg. I am the General: to bring many people together onto one path is my particular skill."

*

Loranna touches Tris's shoulder. "We probably both should spend some more time with our beloveds; we've been bouncing back and forth a lot recently, taking care of other things."

At the Mage Guild, Loranna had hidden her concern that her disguise had been pierced. When she learns the nature of the difficulty, however, she mutters to Tris " ... Funny we should be talking about not spending enough time with our loved ones, huh? Suddenly Daggerfall is a good day away."

She frowns; she could fly faster than many boats could sail, but she didn't relish flying over the
Iliac Bay without good reason ... "Well, yes, this is getting to be a bit much. We better get ourselves to the docks ..."

Gunnar Redtooth had been huge, even for a Nord, and his temper had matched his stature. There had been few that were his equal with an axe, and fewer still his equal at drinking and bragging.

Only Gunnar's respect for Magnilde, the Large-breasted Widow of Bolverk, had kept him from directly confronting a cocky young Nord from the mountains. A cocky young Nord who had slain the man Gunnar had called Chief for most of his life. A cocky young Nord named Aricyn.

Aricyn, for his part, respected Gunnar's martial prowess, if not his attitudes and outlook on life.

When the Azurite war had come, and Aricyn had called to his people for help, it was Gunnar that had gone north to gather even more men. He had gone so far to beg audience with the King of Skyrim, and his army grew from the meeting.

While no living man would call Gunnar Redtooth 'charming', his charisma had shown itself in those days, and the Nordic army he led to Aricyn's call was greater than the world had seen since the last time his kinsmen had marched on
Red Mountain.

They never reached the shores of Vvardenfel.

Gunnar had argued that an overland march was foolish, and the army had taken a great fleet of longships from Winterhold, through the
Sea of Ghosts.

Off the point of Blacklight, Gunnar Redtooth met his end at the claws of an endless number of Daedra; Winged Twilights who blotted out the sun with their dark wings. The army was lost in the
Sea of Ghosts, their deaths coming not in the glory of combat against their traditional enemies, but as they scrambled for non-existent cover on bare decks.

Gunnar Redtooth had heeded the call of that snowy-haired pup. Surely, that was the cause of his death. Surely, it had nothing to do with the ill-advised journey by ship through enemy waters.

Nothing nags at a man's soul more than a mistake of his own making.

(Iliac Bay, Daggerfall:)

The setting sun peeked through the grey day just long enough to turn the sea exactly the color of fresh-spilt blood. The wind, cool, and from the North, brought with it a heavy fog which cloaked the docks of the city in darkness long before the sun set.

As the sun dipped below the waters, a watchman sat up and looked out over the fog-shrouded bay. He could swear he had heard the long, mournful cry of a Nordic warhorn.

She smiled. "Still. I miss his company. Even if he likes the Dwemer constructs more than the gardens."

They stood near the fountain. Now, looking down, she saw the streets of Daggerfall city fill with heavy fog.

"That doesn't look right," she said. "Come on."

She stole a kiss from him though, before she went.

"And judging from the sound effects, I'm guessing the ritual came off quite well."

The trip passed quickly. It was almost evening by the time the ship reached Daggerfall. Tris offered Loranna his cloak; it was by no means a pretty day, anymore, although the red sky promised good sailing on the morrow. Though as a Nord she wouldn't feel the cold, still the thick fog was likely to soak her to the skin.

Loranna raises her eyebrows. "Ah," she says, first grinning, then giggling. "Silly me; proceed with the simplest terms ..."

She accepts Tris's cloak, saying "Rather foggy; is Daggerfall given to heavy fogs like this? It's the first one I've seen."

A long, mournful cry rolls across the waters, and Loranna's brow furrows, her lips curled into a frown. "Tris dear," she says, her tone as cool as the weather, "that sound like a war horn to you?"

Posted by: Rhedd May 29 2005, 11:59 AM

"Ship off the starboard stern!" cried the watchmen from the dusk above Tris and Loranna's heads.

"She's closing fast, Captain, and she's too close!"

There was a scramble on the decks as the crew of the little carrack tried to turn her sharply to port, and the captain ran to the starboard railing.

So closely the man could've reached out and touched it, a Nordic longship passed silently by, it's dragon-headed prow leering in the darkness.

The captain turned pale and stumbled backwards. He had caught sight of the other vessel's crew.

On the far side of the ship, another longship passed, its striped sail passing cleanly through the rigging of the little carrack.

Somewhere in the dark, a deep horn blew again.

The watchman could hardly believe his eyes. It was a dark night, but not that dark, and he had seen what he had seen.

He raced up the tower steps two at a time, finally reaching the bell rope.

From here, it was even clearer than from the lighthouse. An entire fleet of Nordic ships was approaching the harbor, and they didn't look friendy.

He pulled hard on the rope with sweaty hands, and the loud clanging of the bell rang across the city. In moments, it was joined by others. Little bells on the gate towers, and eventually, the heavy tolling of the temple bells.

"What goes on here?" he asked a dock worker.

"Ghost fleet," he said. "I'll stay here. You go."

Allerleirauh pulled on her cloak and headed out the door. The people passing were evenly divided - poor people, older people, those with good sense fleeing the docks, and young people, bravos, the idle rich heading down to take a look.

A solid line of sails could be seen rising out of the thick fog, coming in to harbor.

Everywhere, men dropped their work and ran.

As they watched, the first of the invasion fleet reached the docks... and did not stop.

Men yelled and lept from the docks into the cold water, trying to avoid the impact that never came. The ghostly ships merely passed through the docks and kept going, as if the fog filled streets were deep rivers.

Nalion sat at the table in his small chamber, having sought solitude and silence. On the table lay a piece of parchment, the letters on them clearly identifyable as the mages handwriting.

The city bells woke Nalion from his thoughts and made him look out of the window. The fog outside washed around the walls of Solunastra like waves on the shore.

"I'm getting the feeling you need a clear head in this more than a mug of mead..." Nalion answered. "On the other hand... you're a Nord..."

Nalion was glad that he left his staff at Solunastra. The steel would not help much against what they faced and he really did not want to face battle-hardened Nords in close combat.

"I don't like this... no, not at all."

The mage closed his eyes for a brief moment, collecting his thoughts, shutting everything off that was not needed for a fight. Emotions, doubt, fear...
He opened his eyes and with a spoken word, the air around him shimmered purple as a shield spell engulfed him. A sanctuary spell cast by the use of the ring on his left hand completed his defense.

He looked at the nearest ship that was about to stop.

*

Suddenly, the street was flooded with a group of Daggerfall guards, heavy shields turned toward the oncoming ship and lanterns held clumsily in the same hand.

"Back to your home, citizens," one called to Nalion. "Out of the way!"

QUOTE(Allerleirauh @ May 29 2005, 06:51 AM)

Tris was too young to remember the days whe ghosts walked the streets of Daggerfall, but he had lived there long enough to know the stories.

"Loranna, come on,"  he said, slipping his finger into his ring of levitation and heading off after the ships.

"YOU THERE!"  he shouted. "A bit warm for you, isn't it?"

*

Loranna activates her bracelet and soars off after Tris, wondering if her Turn Undead spells would work on these spirits. They were dead, but then again, these were unusual circumstances. That, and scaring ghosts off into the city itself was probably a bad idea; she'd want to send them fleeing back toward the sea if at all possible.

She sees familiar figures at the dock and smiles a bit, waiting to se ehow Tris's taunt is taken.

Gram lets Nalion's comment pass, thinking to himself that Frostkiss, while enchanted, was perhaps not the best weapon to use on a Nord, dead or otherwise. The chill of Frostkiss would be like paper streamers against a castle wall.

He unhooks Flametongue from his back, and shifts Trueturner in Flametongue's former position; even slung on his back, his shield's magic could avail him. He grips his father's sword and says "You there! Whatever campaign you were once on, tis over now lad; best be sailing back to the lands of the dead and enjoying the sleep you earned."

Aricyn fell into stride beside Allerleirauh.

"The wind smells odd," he said, only partly to her.

A group of city guard ran by as fast as they could manage and stay together.

At the great court in the center of town, just down the street from the Guildhouse, three longships sat bobbing slowly as if in port.

"You know," Aricyn said, "we have really got to do something about this ghost problem..."

With the ease of experience and long training, a fireball appeared over the palm of the mage, ready to sear through the air seeking its target.

Duke Drevorus looked on from a safe position, on top of a tall tower, judging the skills of the combatents. He sat, as his squire materalized beside him, his illusion undone, his Dremora form showing. Drevorus turned to his "squire" and whispered some orders to him, the Dremora dissapated. He looked at an indervidual firing a fireball... yes, he thought, that was one of them... he had seen him enter and exit the guild hall... he watched this person with intrest. But the real intrest was about these undead. Where were they from? It was not Meridia's doing... perhaps the King of Worms (he still did not think of him as a god) was up to no good? Perhaps one of the other princes, Narmia, Vaermia, or even Azura was behind this? but it definatly was a fortunate turn of events... very fortunate

Remembering stories about the events in Daggerfall that had passed more than a decade ago, he spoke in a voice that carried far over the fog.

He lowered his fleshless head, chainmail rattled against bone.

The ghost of Gunnar Redtooth was just as disagreeable looking as the living man. What flesh he had scowled at Aricyn's words, the remnants of his heavy moustache hung heavy with seawater.

"You sent us to our doom, boy!" he bellowed. "I'm finally here to have your head!"

Aricyn raised an eyebrow and drew his sword. Not the long, heavy sword that he wore across his back, but the thin, lighter one that he carried always at his waist. The one called Moon Riever.

Gram scowls a bit; he can understand a warrior's frustration at coming to battle and finding it long over, even if these particular Nords were taking things entirely too far.

"I'd watch myself lad if I were you," he mutters to Nalion, keeping his eye on the eyeless ghost.

Loranna, meanwhile, looks over at Tris. "Men dueling," she mutters quietly, staring at Gunnar as he advances on Aricyn.

Drevorus' eyes opened wide... yes, that was Dagons weapon, the Moon Riever... long thought to be lost during Meridia's campain against Azura. He looked again at the man... he seemed to be a member of the guild... or somthing like that... but he was definatly far beyond Drevorus' league... there was somthing... strange about this nord... almost familiar... the Dremora reappeared, and whispered back to Drevorus that his request would be granted... All ghosts that the party encountered so far had seemed to have a purpose and an unfinished business when they reappeared in this world. The mage did not want to fight, this fight could never be won. All unnecessary bloodshed would be on the side of the defenders. And for what reason?

He took a breath and looked at the ghost.
"What battle in this world has ended so that you are forced to reappear from the afterlife? A soldier must know when to take up a weapon, but he also has to know when to lay it down!"

Posted by: Rhedd May 29 2005, 02:11 PM

The faintly glowing orbs that passed for Gunnar's eyes stared at Aricyn's drawn sword.

"Oh, mean business, do you, whelp? Mean to take my soul away from me just like you did my life? Well, I mean business too! You think this army follows YOU? Do you think YOU are Chief here?"

The ghost snarled, and its face became even less human than before. It backed away from the legendary weapon.

"I am Chief here! I should have bedded Magnilde! This is MY army, and this is your end!"

Gunnar's ghost backed away more, until he was protected by his gleaming honor guard.

"Kill him now, lads! Kill him and we can all rest!"

The ghost to Gunnar's right drew his sword, and looked at his companions.

"Make him bleed," Gunnar said through clenched teeth.

Two of the honor guard grabbed the ghostly man by his heavy arms.

"WHAT IS THIS?" Gunnar shouted, trying in vain to shake off his attackers and free his sword arm. "Treachery! I am your Chief!"

As they drug him, wailing, back to the ship, the other tall Nord approached Aricyn, and, kneeling, offered him his ghostly sword.

"We were delayed, my Chief, but we have come."

Aricyn recognized the kneeling ghost, and there was a tear in his eye.

"The battle is over, Hagen Greenhill. Go, now, to a warrior's rest. You've done your part well."

All across the city, the fog lifted to reveal a starlit, peaceful night.

Gram watches Gunnar as he is dragged away by his own men, fighting off a scowl. The moment he saw the ghost back into his honor guard, he felt a surge of contempt; a cowardly specter was a most pitiful sight.

He hooks Flametongue to his back once more, and nods, giving Aricyn and Hagen a grim smile. "Aye lads, sleep as honored warriors, your deeds remembered by the living," he says quietly.

Loranna feels surprised; that wasn't quite how she thought things would end; realizing who these ghosts were, and how they died, though, causes her to grow quiet, remembering those who lost their lives in the Blue Dawn.

She rubs her eyes, clearing them of moisture.

When the fog had appeared, Tohe had by that time, been driven deeper into the alleyway, with several wounds and quite some damage done to his saber. The Silver blade bounced off their armor like it was stone, which made sense. Sabers were made for slashing and chopping, the way a Werewolf attacked with claws most of the time, and the armor was stronger, Silver blades weren't exactly high quality weapons.

Tohe ducked into a building that had a door into the alley, the interior of which was rather ratty and badly maintained, likely abandoned, or the hideout of some young kid's gang. He tossed the saber onto the table and quickly began changing, it was the only way he'd get out of this without being maimed or killed. He couldn't rely on armor for he had none, he needed the strength and the agility.

By the time he had finished, he found out that the ghosts, being what they were, weren't going to play fair. He only scarcely avoided the barrage of fireballs by ducking into another room. Before they followed, he leapt out, taking the first hunter down by brining his head down on the helmet. There was a satisfying crunch as the Hunter's neck snapped under the blow. Tohe kept in close of the mass of hunters. The Halberds would only be use at range, in these close quarters they were scarcely useable, and that was all they had aside from the occasional sword. The ghostly hunters became the hunted, and by the time the fog that shrouded the city, and the ghostly Nordic fleet had departed, so had the hunters. The only evidence of the fight were some blast marks in the alley, the rather burnt room of the entrance to the relatively abandoned building, and the wounded Werewolf occupying it. The ghosts and their equipment vanished from this world. tohe stayed were he was, he couldn't leave like this, night as it was. People tended to notice beasts running through streets, or on roofs. Best to weather it out and knock the hell out of anyone who got curious about the building.

Reichi was outside the Guildhall, having stood in the streets wondering what was going on. He scrathed his silver haired head and looked around the street as the fog Dissipated. What is a man, what defines humanity? Is it death, that mortal weight which pulls all toward a similar conclusion? Gimnius Tartakus sat, or didn't sit, on a rock and pondered these things, while his mind steamed with a prodigous fury. If this theatrical climax equalizes all in the eyes of the gods, WHY IS IT THAT THEY COULD DO THIS AND REMAIN? The specter blanched, he had only just become aware of the finality of the condition, and was indignant. He was thinking, thinking that there could be nothing worse. The family - it had lost a father. The town - it had lost a baker. The world - it had lost a gentle soul. This soul could be gentle no longer.

Daggerfall, Emperor’s Jewels...

The annoying, flapping, repetition of a fan, rotating in the Emperor’s Jewels is the only thing to keep me company in the empty tavern. Everyone else fled at the slightest feeling of danger. When the bell sounded they all started running, damn near killing each other just to get out of here.

My braided hair shifts quietly on my shoulders, as I shake my head.

Being in the presence of all these cowards is enough to make me sick. Its people like me that save this world, its people like me that fight, so cowards like these people can live, and I’m sick of it. If these people had half a mind, they would’ve known they where safe. I felt no danger, something told me nothing would happen, and I trust my feelings, even more then I trust the words of Gods themselves.

A small creak comes from the door as the barmaid enters. She is the first one back. Just like a self centered human, the moment her baby smooth, skin was safe and she was free from the malicious hands of danger, she wanted to make sure no one robbed her tavern. Now that your life is safe, you’re back to being the self-centered wench you where minutes before, isn’t that right, Sweetheart?

“Terrible specters were outside, Sir.” She says, pausing as if trying to put her mind around my behavior. “Your curiosity didn’t eat at you? You didn’t have the slightest interest in seeing if the town was going to be slaughtered by the coming ghosts?”

My reply to her was simple.

“Another tankard of mead... please.”

Solunastra

Bosriel could smell the fear in Daggerfall. She had been practicing walking after twelve hundred years of floating in the Void, when it floated into her room like the aroma of some delicious meal. There was something bad happening, and many were frightened, but it was some distance away.

She considered asking Tamne to join her, but it was certain to be dangerous. The dark girl did not want to put her only friend in Solunastra, her only friend in the world except for Leseth, in harm’s way. But Bosriel could feel the warmth in her flesh, and hunger clawing at her. Looking in the mirror, her lips and eyes were bright white.

Bosriel slipped out a window, and floated over the roofs of Daggerfall. Instinctively, she kept close to the eaves, staying in the darkest parts of the dark town. The only place in the city she had been, the night before with Tamne, was the docks, and that was where the fear was concentrated.

The crowd gathered there watching the ghostly Nords come closer filled her, nourished her.

Was this to be her fate, she wondered, as her flesh turned black, her eyes red, and a chill returned to her skin – to search out war, hauntings, massacres, all the horrors of the world, to feed on the fear like a vulture? There were so many beautiful things in the world beyond the Void, love, romance, contentment … But the good things did not feed her. If Tamriel were ever at peace, she would die.

Bosriel recognized several people from Solunastra, and when they dealt with the undead Nords, she followed them. They went into the front door of the Emperor’s Jewels, and she drifted in through a open window. In the shadows above, hidden in the beams, the vampire watched and listened.

Once more Solin set foot on the metal plated flooring of the citizen-less city. In an instant he passed from absolute silence to being greeted by the all too familiar sounds of mechanical harmony. Noises harkening back to a time of fraying and fracture. A far reaching insanity that still threatened to consume the unwary lurked in the corners, not just those of the city.

He wandered an age before finding the spot he had been looking for. The gears spun on the wall much like all the others. This mechanism in particular had a large singular driving wheel with several others set about it, although, not far away a second, not quite so large gear whirred in unison. Sighing, the Dunmer cleared a spot next to the spinning mechanism and went in search of another large gear.

When he had finished, a second mechanism stood nearly identical to the first. It was the same save for two aspects. First, all of the work bore Solin's particular brand of assembly. Second, it was dead, the driving gear hung loosely on its axel, out of place with its kin. All that was left to add was motivation and that would have to wait for the proper moment. Pleased with this work, the mer swept the unused remnants into his pack and slung it over his shoulder. Smiling, Solin departed, leaving the city once again to itself.

The Hall of the Battlefield Perched Precariously on top of a High, High Mountian, Gaunlet of Heroes, Oblivion

Maranda could not believe the view. It was spectacular... as if she was on the highest mountian in the world, looking down apon all of Tamriel. But a cold bust of wind broke this amazement, as she saw a lightly armoured Redguard standing, all alone, unarmed looking at her intensly. It was the Redguard that spoke
"Welcome, Maranda Biennie, to the Seventh room of the Gauntlet of heroes. Our regular comentator is not around, so I shall have to fill in. THis spectacular place is the battlefield on the top of the world, although Prince Meridia gave it a really silly name which I shall not repeat. I am who you must face, the Redguard, Lacoriz, master of the sword..." Lacoriz said quietly.
"And you seem to be the most normal of them all..." Maranda replied
Lacoriz bowed and smiled, slowly getting into battle position. He closed his eyes, and the mystical energies surrounded his hands... slowly, a sword formed. No, this was not conjuring a Daedric Longblade from oblivion... this was somthing else...
"Sword Saint..." Maranda said quietly under her breath
"Indeed," Lacoriz replied, dissapering from site and appearing right above her. She drew her sword as fast as she could, and only just parried the blow. Lacoriz jumped back, his sword crackling with energy, and spoke...
"Although I am supposed to go easy on you to keep ticket sales up for the final battle, I have decided not to give you the luxury that the other six of my fellows did, and go easy on you... although this is all a big money making scheme for Prince Meridia, I wish to give our viewers somthing to cheer about. You may have parried my first blow, Maranda Biennie, but you shall not leave this battlefield alive..." he dissapeared yet again

Daggerfall City
It was painful sitting down... earlier a group of boys had asked him to play ball with them... before that a guard asked where his mother was... this was no way for a Daedric Duke to spend his summer... disguised as a little girl, keeping watch over a guild house in the middle of a stinking human city. The Duke got his prayers answered as his squire returned... telling him he was to return to Oblivion immediatly for a "Plot Related Incident"... and so he left the watching of the Guild house to his squire, whilst he returned to Oblivion

Above? Below? To the left? To the right? A guess had to be made, and made soon. Maranda closed her eyes, and felt in her heart to block to the right... the clank of metal and energy struck... but the pressure on her sword was no more, another attack... above! Clank! The sword blocked again, but only lightly as she prepared for another attack... her heart said from the left, but her brain said from the right... Maranda opened her eyes, and chanted a Massive Area Effect Fire spell before he could strike again as the fireball engulfed a 20 ft radius, Lacoriz appeared again, at a safe distance.

He was just too quick. She could feel where he was comming from the vibrations in the air... but such skill can be faked he dissapeared once more, as Maranda once again felt the wind pressure... the right! Yet she felt somthing strange, her sword leaving her hands. Opening her eyes once more, she saw the sword fly through the air, and land on the far side of the battlefield. Lacoriz stopped the atack, his blade but inches from her throat...

"The game is over, my dear breton, this is the end!"

Is this the end for this RP's main heroine? Will the Villanous Meridia and her Evil Henchmen slay our Heroine, or will by some miricle will she be able to defeat the vicious Lacoriz without a sword, and without much magic? Find out in the next episode of "GAUNTLET OF HEROES!!!" (only on Oblivi-vision, not avalible in Coldharbour Moonshadow)

Posted by: Arynel Jun 2 2005, 07:38 AM

Arynel returned to the guildhouse, and throughout Daggerfall copies of a pamplet could now be found, though they left no indication as to their creator. The Breton took a walk through the garden, trying to find a peaceful spot to ease his mind.

Victory is reserved for he who triumphs, the enemy will come again and again, each aspect more deadly than the last, and in all ways he is as a striking serpent who keeps in his mouth the venom of the sea, or a raging dragon who keeps in his maw the fire of the stars. Of him it is said even the gods tremble, and he takes his place in the high heavens and he travels over the whole world and unto him arrows are broken and blades made blunt, armor breaks against the weight of his blows and his voice is like a tumultuous wind.

Behold, a city has been built, which is a jewel on a crown, and see that one comes of divine prospect and he brings with him eight stars and of their light he makes a lantern and a watch post. To his city multitudes come, like flocks of sheep seeking after green pastures, for wolves bite at their heels and unto them he offers rest and respite, though the wolves are his, and he is the dragon also. He comes like a raging storm and he devours nations, and he is then also the great light bringer for he carries with him eight stars.

On his mantle is arranged eight jewels which are pieces of a dream, though the dream is never realized, for in all things he is a dragon and a biting serpent and he seeks to devour. The dream stands alone as a testament such as a lone tree where all others have been cut down, and the dream becomes a sword which is the only blade made able to cut him, and it is found within his crushing coils, and hidden away inside his fiery muzzle.

Victory is reserved for he who triumphs, the enemy is bathed in radiant light and you must walk the paths which are left behind by his fleeting shadow. They go and offer alms to the altars of their gods, and who is there without debt? He takes his place in the high heavens and he travels over the whole world and unto him come swarming multitudes and he devours every single one.

"It aint over yet!" Maranda yelled, summoning a Daedric Longblade to her left hand, knocking the sword out of the way, "Not by a long shot!" She summoned a second blade, and lunged it towards Lacoriz, who regained his composure, and parried the attack with his spirit blade. Maranda, with her left sword struck again, a move that was easily parried, as Lacoriz jumped back carmly out of her reach, "do you not realize that there is no dual welding here?" he said
"There was in Daggerfall, are we not in Daggerfall?" Maranda replied
"You fool, we are in Oblivion, did you not read the Dev interview? No duel welding in Oblivion!" Lacoriz replied angrily
"What the hell are you talking about!" Maranda said, charging in, striking at Lacoriz wildly with her blades. Lacoriz was easily parrieing her attacks, yet was being pushed back ever so slightly... yet as Maranda was about to strike, the spell failed... the binding dissapeared... Lacoriz smiled, as his blade prepared to strike at her neck, "Its all over, Maranda Biennie"
"Indeed it is, Lacoriz, indeed it is" Maranda said, pulling off a Telekinesis spell, her sword flying from the ground, hitting Lacoriz in the back of the head, knocking him out cold, she sheathed her sword, "Its all over..." she was teleported on to the next room...

Daggerfall - Solunastra

Gram Pyrel was a man who believed - more or less - in doing what he set his mind to do; having decided to tell Loranna about the Pyrel's family history, he meant to tell her. The trouble was finding a good time to do so; Gram found himself in the unenviable position of being most relaxed around the daughter he abandoned many years ago when there was some sort of danger afoot. However, when ghost legions sail into the harbor or giant skeletons menace the land, it's usually a bad idea to recount other heroic legends and a better idea to start making some of your own there and then. Hence, Gram found himself in a bit of a conumdrum.

Fortunately, Loranna provided an answer:

"Dad, mind if we spar a bit?" Loranna asked him suddenly. "I had something in mind I wanted to work on ..."

Gram wondered if any other father in the world was ever asked by his own daughter to try to sink his axe or sword into her flesh; he sincerely doubted it. He wondered if any other daughter had ever asked their father to let her try to fry him with lightning magic or paralyize him before skewering him or just plain throwing a rock at his head with telekenesis, and he found himself thinking several probably have or would have if they had half a chance.

"Dad, relax; I gave you the potion already," Loranna had said, and Gram had shrugged and attacked, trying to prevent Loranna from getting a spell off. Back and forth father and daughter went; sometimes Gram managed to disrupt her spellcasting, sometimes Loranna left Gram rooted to the floor and smacked him over the head with a mace.

After an hour or so of sparring, though, Gram found he was ready to speak to Loranna; she'd been siezing the advantage for the last seven exchanges anyway ...

The Collaseum of Champions, Oblivion

The noise from above was deafining... there sounded like there were hundreds, no thousands of people in the staduim above her. Of course, Maranda could not count them... she was in a cell... she had just finished preparing, when there was a knock on the door, as it opened. A tall, handsome Dremora walked into the room,
"It is time" Drevious said slowly, "Are you ready?"
"Indeed, cute looking Dremora" Maranda replied, as the Duke lead her to the battlefield

The camera swooped around the collaseum, forming a close up of Meridia herself, who took the microphone in her hand, and started to speak
"To all of the viewers on OBLIVI-Vision ™ who have followed the Gauntlet this far, it has been a hard couple of weeks. But finally, we are at the final of our eight challanges. Before us, is the challanger to the Gauntlet, fighting for her freedom from my evil grasp, Maranda Biennie of Daggerfall!" there was a cheer from the dremora as a flame antronach fired flame into the air, "And her challanger," the door on the opposate side of the stadium opened, as a massive armoured creature appeared. twelve meters tall, he had two massive broadswords in each of his hands, his armour covered his entire body, and each step he made shook the stadium to the ground, "Lord Landon of Cyrodiil!!!!!!!"

Info for P'Rassha

Race: Cathay-raht Khajjit (the biggest 2 legged breed)
Class: Rogue
Sex: Male

P'Rassha is an impressive mountain of muscle and grace. He is able to lift a man with one hand and easily jump across cliffs while others believe it is impossible. His fur is orangish with darker patch scattered all around his body, much like a jaguar.

He wears gears from all over Tamriel: a bosmeri bow, a nordic axe, a dunmeri netch leather cuirass, and a strange and fascinating pendant, finely worked with a beautifulruby incrusted in the middle.

Daggerfall --- A Dark Alley

"P'Rassha wants this soul gem. No matter the price, P'Rassha will buy it."

The dark figure was, at the least, not very reliable, but it was the only one he could approach for such a shaddy deal. People say Arkay protects the soul of the mortals with its magic, but it was possible, with a twist of fate to get the soul of someone into a soul gem. And with the phatomatic apparitions getting even more common, it was only a matter of time before a dead adventurer known by P'Rassha was captured.

The merchant was holding a fairly large blue gem into his hand. Magic clearly radiated from it. He was asking for a large amount of money, but it was not a problem for P'Rassha, he had more than enough. He was to naive though, because as soon as he gave the man the money, dark figures joined with the shaddy dealer. Assassins. P'Rassha knew they were there to backstab him, but he couldn't help but think it was a waste. People would die in this alley, and it would not be him.

Before the first one was on him, he grabbed his arm and jumped above him. Everybody else followed the khajjit's movement, but before he landed on the ground, he clawed the face of another assasin.

The latter grabbed his face and felt on the floor, bleeding horribly. With a quick movement of his tail, P'Rassha regained its balance and draw his axe. At the sight of the large War Axe in the khajjit's hands, his attackers hesitated, for one second. But that second was enough for another assassin to fall on the ground, an open gap in his belly.

Only 3 enemy remained. Two assassins and the dealer, still holding the gem and the money. It was not long before the dealer ran in the opposite direction with an assassin, while the other tried to buy some time. With a swift kick, P'Rassha made his opponent flew into a nearby wall and took his bow. The first arrow went directly into the remaining assassin's heart. The second made the dealer drop the money bag and the last one pierced right into the merchant's hand holding the gem.

P'Rassha was incredibly fast, even for a khajjit. The merchant left the money and the gem on the ground and fled. P'Rassha let him go. He had what he needed anyway.

He grabbed Freluk gra-Gorak's soul gem and the money, then left the dark alley. His bussiness for the day were done.

Maranda looked at the fiend before her... he was once a human, but now he was a heavily armed fiend. How to defeat him? Magic would not work, nor would the sword, as they were all too big. Summons would not work, well, perhaps flamey would... but she had already used him today... "Lets try this..." she said, casting desintergrate armour on her blade, followed by a Mark spell, and levetation. She flew up to Landons heavily armoured head, and swungher sword into the armour, casting recall to avoid his blow, then flew in and sliced her blade at Landon's knees. Maranda cast recall again, and serveyed the damage. Yes, the armour was dented, but it seemed like it would take forever to defeat him this way. Maranda dodgeded to the left as the massive blade that Landon held swung down to strike her, and then blasted a fireball at the armour, that was strangely reflected back. Maranda quickly cast a shield spell that absorbed the blast, yet pushed her back. Perhaps a Dispel spell would stop the enchantment? No... what was she thinking? The massive sword swung again, and Maranda dodged it once more...

Solunastra

Training with her father was helpful for developing strategies against the typical fighter's tricks for mages, but to really improve in her shortblade technique, Loranna needed someone who knew shortblades well. Gram was getting restless anyway and was exploring the area around Daggerfall, looking for the bears Tris had promised were there somewhere.

Loranna hoped her father would be all right; their talk after their sparring match had turned to the topic of her mother, and Loranna was still wondering what to make of her father's comment "You have much of your mother in you."

Looking around, Loranna finds Reichi. "Hi dear; would you show me some sword techniques? With the Mage Guild closed I might as well work on my other skills for a bit, lest I forget which end of the blade to hold."

Levitate again, another fireball... all of which failed... If only she had Flamey... but she had already summoned him today... hang on, she thought, this day had seemed allot longer than a day... still in levitation, Lord Landon swung his sword again, Maranda cast recall, only to find Landon's second sword swinging down on her Mark. She cast jump, and avoided the blade by a miracle, only to find the other blade swinging at her. Recall again, she used the Jump spell which was still active to jump out of Landon's reach She swiped the ring on her finger and yelled out, "I SUMMON THEE!!!! FLAMEY!"

{directors note, start the high beat hero music here}

ROAR!!!!!!

The Flame Monarch appeared to the gasp of the audience... 20 foot tall, it seems that he had gained a pair of firey swords. Landon tried to strike the Flame Monarch, who easily parried the clumsy attack, before thrusting his sword right through Landons Armour... the force of the blast sending Landon crashing into the colosseum... then without warning, the heavily armoured Landon exploded... cheers rose from the audience, as a pit opened up beneath Maranda, and down she fell...
"Wait in there for a while Maranda, the final test is just around the corner..." Meridia said, as Maranda fell into the dark abyss

Loranna chuckled. "This is why I have so many short-range spells," she mutters. "Later on, you should compare notes with my father about tackling mages; anyway, let's go."

In the practice area, Loranna gives Reichi one of her super healing potions, selecting a practice blade and set of light armor. "Thought I'd do some practice in armor and some out today, if that's all right with you. In case I get caught in a fight without my armor sometime."

Arynel bent down at the waist, cupping the violet bloom carefully in his hand. After studying the components of the blossom, the Breton removed his hand, stood upright, and continued walking through the garden. He stopped again at another flower that caught his interest.

He was without arms, his sword was not with him, and neither was his cloak, or the shirt which Allerlierauh had given him as a gift. Now he wore only simple traveler’s clothes, and it looked almost as if he had been taken from some place where flowers like these would bloom without the guiding hand of man.

Blam! Maranda landed on a soft matress and looked around the room. There were eight other people, but only the redguard was consious, a redguard she remembered...
"Your... your Lacoriz? are you not?" Maranda asked
"Indeed I am, Maranda... the others here," Lacoriz guestured to the other seven people, "Are those who you fought in the Gauntlet of Heroes. For some reason, they are unconsious..."
"But... how do you remember me?" Maranda asked
Lacoriz sighed, "Because I faced you without being mutated... the fact of the matter is, that these people will proberly not remember you at all..."
Maranda looked around, to see bars surrounding the room, a black abyss before them... a shimmer appeared, and Duke Drevious appeared on the other side of the bars. "The final test shall begin shortly. Be prepared for it..." The duke dissapeared, leaving the party alone

Daggerfall

"My lord, everything is ready on our end"
"Yes, and everything is ready on my end... now all we have to do is wait for the right people to come, and then we can finish what we started..." Drevious said, looking at the tall, foreboding Guild House called Solunastra...

Reichi nodded and downed the potion. He exchanged his armor for a training set of light armor. He didn't want it to get ruined. He went through enough armor as it was. He drew the Dagger of Senses, grinning wolfishly at Loranna. "Allright, the first thing to fighting with a shortblade is speed, use the lightness and size of the blade to strike fast," he said, charging on Loranna, continuing to talk as they trained. "If at all possible, aim for vital areas, esspecially the throat." Reichi moved with lightning speed, his blade dancing through the air, feinting and striking from unexpected angles. "If you can't hit a vital area, strike what you can as much as possible, if you can't score a vital hit, you can make them bleed to death."

"Strike like a viper, get in, score a blow, and back out."

Loranna exchanges blows with Reichi, watching his form; he was quick as a viper and she felt herself take more than one slash across her throat or stab in the places where the armor didn't quite cover her skin. It hurt, quite a bit sometimes, but she had grown used enough to taking blows by now that she could keep her attention focused on learning.

It was actually kind of enchanting, seeing Reichi in action; her werewolf mer wasn't intentionally trying to be flashy or theatric but all the same his movements were fluid and graceful, the mark of a skilled fighter. She'd noticed that quality in Dragon when she learned how to use a mace, and she had even seen it in her father, hidden under his brute power and cleaving attacks.

She was just getting into the groove of moving her sword, her innate grace coming into play, when Reichi mamaged to drive his sword right into her heart; she looked down at the blade, blinking for a moment, and then something in her mind clicked and she broke down laughing.

... Opposite of innocence, she thinks, as she pulls herself off of Reichi's sword.

"Sorry, sorry," she mutters, "Okay; let's do some more and then lemme try fighting without armor ..."

Posted by: Aki Yesterday, 03:54 AM

Reichi smirked. "You might as well not be wearing any, Working with light armor is not the same as without, but the main princible is the same, don't get hit. Of course, with light armor, you want to roll with the blow, minimizes the damage to the armor, keeps blades from punching through it," Reichi said, resuming his attack. They continued to spar some more in light armor, Loranna managing to score a few blows that would have normally been lethal, but healed quickly due to the potions. The sensation of the incredible healing wasn't too alien to Reichi, shifting was similar to it, flesh and bone rearranging. Just for shifting, it didn't rearrange to the old pattern, it moved somewhere else. And it hurt a hell of a lot more.

*

"Well, to be honest my usual armor has a little more heft to it than this does," Loranna says, tapping her cuirass. "Anyway, to continue ..."

After some more training, both in armor and out, Loranna holds up her hand. "Okay, enough for now; my appetite is whetted something fierce. Come on; I'll treat you to a drink and a meal, your choice of tavern."

Reichi nodded, and got rid of the training armor, redressing in his Wolf fur armor. "I don't know any of the taverns here though, so any one will do," Reichi said. Both left the training room, and then, Solunastra.

Fresh air, that was what he needed right now. Nalion had spent a lot of time between the shelves of the library in Solunastra, but now all those books seemed to wear him out.
Yes, fresh air and a nice walk around Daggerfall would be good now.

The mage rose and headed down the stairs where he almost bumped into Reichi and Loranna. Nalion greeted them with a smile and followed them outside.

A tall, darkskinned man approched the three, bumping into Loranna accidently, dropping a basket of lillies he was carring, "I am sorry, my lady," the duke said with great respect, "But my lord needs your presence..." the light shone on his face, showing the features that were obviously from a denzen of Oblivion. His hand touched the ground, and the ground dissapeared, a void into Oblivion had been opened, and the three adventurers fell headlong into the void beneath them...

Loranna gave a little oof as she was bumped into, saying "Sorry about tha ... what, who?"

Then, the Duke whipped off his cloak, and she hissed "Daedra!", raising her hands to cast protective magic for herself and the others - and that's when the ground fell out from underneath her feet.

She was falling; she cried out in surprise and alarm, having enough presence of mind to activate her bracelet of levitation. But the void below her wasn't a normal gaping hole, and she continues to fall, disoriented and confused.

Old reflexes of a trained mage were kicking in as Nalion spotted what that "person" really was. Taking a stap back to gain room, he began to mutter an incantation...
Then, there was a sensation of falling and the spell fizzled as if cast by a novice. Subsequent tries to cast slowfall did not even create a fizzle. Nalion felt naked... and somehow helpless.

Blam! The three adventurers landed on a large, kingsized bed, that broke their fall... apart from the bed, there was nothing, yet if our adventurers looked up, they could see a large cage with a Redguard, a Breton, and seven unconscious Paladins within it. The Duke appeared in his brilliant self,

"I bid you welcome, noble heroes, for this is the Gauntlet of Heroes... or at least it was a few days ago. Since then it has been reinvited for this, the fifth test... I am the one who shall be administering this test, Duke Drevious, a Daedric Duke of a noble class. Now I am sure you all wish to slay me right now, but before you get down to it, lets lay down a few ground rules. This is Oblivion, this is my realm, and your goal is to defeat me. Your weapons will not work, your magic will not work..." the Duke clicked his fingers, as the room turned into a classical 19th century main bedroom. He drew his sword, "now... bring it on!"

Loranna's head stops spinning, to her relief. She looks up at the cage above them, then to the bed they're on and the Daedra Duke telling them why they're here.

Drevious can see Loranna's eyes narrow a bit as she realizes they're in a giant bedroom, and in her thoughts, amid the surprise and anger and concern, is a single thread, shining and piqued:

No weapons, no magic, and a giant bed - this has got to be one of Sanguine's minions ...

Not trusting the word of a strange Daedra, Loranna tries casting a shield spell, but the magic definitely doesn't obey her will; a hastily glugged potion proves to have no effect that she can discern. Loranna starts to worry.

With little else going for her right now, she grabs a heavy candlestick from off a small table, wondering if it will do anything to this Daedra ...

Nalion tried to regain his composure after the fall and the landing in the bed. Something felt wrong here, very wrong. No, it wasn't that they had landed in a bed with a daedric minion adressing them, the surroundings and the general feel was just plain wrong.
"Oblivion..." he muttered.

Nalion looked over to Loranna failing at one of her spells and decided not to waste his time by trying out himself. Instead, he tried to look at the area to find something that might be helpful.

Within moments, and with hardly a exclaimation of pain, Reichi had assumed his other form. This time however, his armor hadn't been destroyed. Obviously more flexible than it looked.

P'Rassha, is recently gained soulgem in hand heard a faint sound as he emerged from the back alley. A simple shout, but enough for him to recognize the voice. It was the Nordic girl he accompanied to Solstheim.

He looked in the street, but they were nowhere to be seen. But it was not his imagination. He heard a shout, and flowers were scattered on the street. With the ghosts all around, it was more than enough to get P'Rassha to be worried, and he hurried to Solunastra, where he was sure to find some help, but with his auditory hallucinations and his new soul gem.

Loranna instinctively throws the snake away, trying as an afterthought to aim it for Drevious's head; she feels a stab of pain and blood drips from her wrist, the snake's fangs having been closing on her as she flung it away.

The Duke was fast, like that other Daedra they faced back in the Blue Dawn; without their magic this fight was going to be hard, even for Reichi, and she herself may be poisoned right now for all she knew. She needed a weapon of some sort - presuming it didn't turn into a hungry lion in her hands when she got it ...

Loranna's arm throbs, and her head feels heavy; the snake was indeed poisonous. The Duke ...

Memories of being in the hole in Gemin, a venomous monkey's bile coursing through her, flood her mind for a moment; she grits her teeth and summons her willpower to force them away, to keep on her feet.

Their opponent was faster then them, and she was wounded; they needed a plan ...

She leans on the bed for a second to catch her breath and has a sudden inspiration; glancing at Nalion she mouths Get Him Here, as she grabs the corner of the bedsheets.

"Oh...." Nalion cursed as the illusion shifted places.
The mage was practically incapacitated, no weapon would work, no magicka - or at least the magicka he knew - and they were facing an illusion. Illusion, so the actual theory, couldn't really be hurt, yet Nalion had the nagging feeling that it would very well be able to hurt his friends.

Nalion looked over towards Loranna, getting her message. He nodded, hoping she knew what she did.

The mage, bare of arms and defense, shouted at the duke.
"Huntsmen should live for the sport and the challenge. There is no challenge in slaughter. I would have thought better of some like you. Are you that weak that you are afraid to face our real abilities, Drevious? A fine daedra you are, not worthy of this name."

Loranna blinks as two Dreviouses appear in the room, even as she puts her plan into motion, pulling the bedsheet off the bed and whipping it over the head of the Drevious that was approaching her.

"Damn, which one's the real one ..." she mutters, trying to remember everything she knew about illusions; these ones seemed rather more realistic than any she had encountered before.

Okay, think; if you were a Daedra toying with mortals where would you be? Loranna asks herself. She glances around, looking for signs of anything that doesn't look right, trying to see past the illusions.

Big mistake Reichi thought, thrusting his hand up. The Illusion coming from above was pormptly impaled on the claws of the Werewolf before disappearing. He was getting annoyed with these illusions. The real one had to be here, somewhere. Reichi moved to the bed, trying to lift it up. Even if he wasn't there, the thing would make a nice weapon.

"I am doubtful that you can talk to a spirit in a soul gem, though I could be mistaken," the Breton said slowly, "However, I am quite certain that you can speak to those who have passed on, if you can find them, and if they are willing to speak.  I believe the soul gem may help with the first criteria.  You understand, of course, it is not something easily done, nor would it be wise to do without good reason."

P'Rassha's eyes were smiling after Arynel's last comment.

"P'Rassha knows many people say consuming moon sugar is not wise, yet many khajjits still eat it. A lot of people says fighting is not wise either, yet the empire is built around warfare and conquest. Necromancers believe it is unwise to ask for Arkay's help to protect the deceased, yet the majority of the population does so.

What is wise depends on what people think. P'Rassha doesn't have a clear definition of wisdom, but his nightmares at night convinced him it was wise to talk with Violetta. If you know what to do, tell P'Rassha please.''

QUOTE(Meridia @ Jun 5 2005, 06:51 AM)

The pillow hit Drevious, as that illusion dissapeared, a third appeared behind Nalion, his sword sheathed, as another attacked Reichi from a different direction
"Me? a Huntsman? Ha ha, you have me figured for working for the wrong prince. No. I am not a noble huntsman... (the Illusion that formed to the other side of Reichi was soundly defeated, as another came from above) I only exsist to do one thing..." Drevious slowly walked towards the bed, "to kill you!"

"I got what I wanted." Nalion answered as he took a careful step back from Drevious to move out of his range. "You will not get what you want from me, though."

Arynel sat silently, looking somewhat uncomfortable.

"I believe I can help you," the Breton said at last, "I am pondering, though, whether I should or not. Tell me, would you like to speak to your friend just once, now, or multiple times? I can do the first, certainly, and I do believe the second is within my ability also, but it will be much harder, and may require a favor from your part."

P'Rassha thought about Arynel's proposal, but didn't find a fitting answer.

"P'Rassha doesn't know what Violetta wants, neither what P'Rasshs heart really wants. P'Rassha only knows it is getting haarder and harder to sleep without having visions. Allow P'Rassha to talk with Violetta once, then P'Rassha will know what to do next. Please."

Arynel nodded.

"I will do this, if you agree to it," the Breton began, "I will channel Violetta and let her speak to you through me. If that satisfies you, then we will be finished, if not, we shall perhaps try something a bit more drastic."

"Whats... whats that?" Maranda asked
"Have you ever wondered... ever wondered how Meridia could contact you? Have you ever guessed why she could appear to you whenever?" Drevious said, "Have you ever wondered how you slip into these pocket worlds?" Drevious held the soulgem over the edge of the cage
"It was because of that ring, was it not?"
"No... it was because of this... you made a pledge, 4 years ago to my Master, Prince Meridia, to serve her as long as you live, and this... this is what you pledged in order for that wish to come true... it is your soul... your very being... you have just been a vessel controled by Meridia up intill this point... and this is your chance." Drevious dropped the soulgem, "Save your soul, or save those who are your enemies!" Drevious finished, laughing like a maniac
Maranda had heard the rules, but wondered if her Magic would work. She cast a jump spell, and jumped to the cell wall where Drevious was standing... "I would rather be damned for all eternity than let someone die due to my actions!" the soulgem hit the floor, shattering into a million pieces, as Maranda drew her sword, striking it at Drevious... the illusion shattered, and once more, the three heroes were in a black room with a large bed on it, cured of all thier ills, and Drevious countered the blow rather easily...

Just like that, the room was back to normal, a gem shattering on the floor, her head clear, though the air still carried a pervasive feeling of strange wrongness.

Loranna looks to her companions, trying to get her magic to obey her, but it still didn't work. Then, she hears sounds above and looks up ...

" ... Maranda?" Loranna asks, looking back down at the shattered gem, then looking back up.

" ... Nine protect you, dear," she says quietly, not seeing any way to get up to the cages.

Nalion looked about the room and steadied himself. He looked up, trying to spot the origin of the voices he heard above him. One voice was clearly to identify, the one of Drevious. The other female voice, he had heard only twice, but he thought he knew it nontheless, especially taking daedric appearances into account... "Maranda."

"That sword... that sword was one of Malacath's best creations... he gave it to me eons ago... and then I sold it..." Once again, he parried the strike one handed with his heavy Daedric Daikatana, 'then let me say this...' Drevious dissapeared in an aftershadow, reappearing behind her... a ball of energy forming in his hand... Maranda could sence it, turning around, she cast a reflect spell, bouncing the fireball back at the Duke, who easily dodged, knocking the sword out of her hand...

"This is the final of the tests to recover your soul... your soul was not in that soulgem, it has, and always has been in you," Drevious sheathed his own sword, and turned her back on Maranda, "But despite not knowing that, you risked your life to save those who are your enemies... Your honour, and your valour bring a tear to my eye..." he clicked his fingers, as the floor beneath everyone dissapeared, and they fell into a void once more... "YOu are free of that which binds you. You have passed the 5 tests of the contract sucessfully... you are free once more to do as you wish..." Maranda heard as she fell, "You shall not hear from me again..."

The Breton disappeared into a hallway and stepped into the void, where he donned his more formidable attire. Arynel read the trails of sparkling light over his cloak like a map, turned, and stepped out of the void.

He found himself in a swamp outside of Daggerfall.

Loranna breathes in a lungful of fetid swamp water, making her gag - but not choke; her magics were working again, and water breathing was one of the potion effects she kept active all the time.

Righting herself, she raises her head just in time to see Arynel, swamp water dripping from her blond locks. "All right? Heh heh ... hahahahahaha!"

She goes to help people get on their feet, using healing magic if needed. "Yes, we're all right; Arynel dear your timing is perfect ..."

"It's been a long day; I'm more parched than before," she decides.  "What say we go get ourselves that drink this time?  And watch out for strange men bearing lillies."

Reichi was class in normal clothing now well, aside from his ever present collar and rings. His armor being repaired, and he was of course, leaning in a chair again. "Sounds good to me," he said simply.

Nalion joined Loranna, this time deciding to leave his robe in its closet. Instead, he wa clad in a woolen blue shirt and black trousers.
"Count me in. I had my fill of 'fresh' air and I could use a drink."

Daggerfall did not lack for taverns, and Solunastra was perfectly situated for one seeking a drink; Loranna leads everyone to the Emperor's Jewels, and picks a quiet little table in the corner for them.

Sipping her wine, Loranna sighs contentedly, her lips playing with a smile. "That will hopefully be the last time Maranda's old mistress crosses our path in any shape or form," she says quietly. "I won't lay bets on it, but I'm hoping nonetheless."

"Merida doesn't have many servants, so its' doubtful. She doesn't have Dremora everywhere like Dagon does...." Reichi said, and took a sip of his drink.

"I do not know, Loranna." Nalion answered after taking a sip of his ale. "I would like to hope so, but as this incident showed, she seems capable to just mess with people for her amusement. Not that this is a trait she has alone, but I fear we may not have seen the last of her."
The mage took another swallow from his mug.
"I hope Maranda will be able to cope with the new situation soon. We should help her with that."
Turning to Reichi, Nalion frowns. "You know, actually this is what scares me. Dagon seems more straightforward. Meridia instead... the involvement of those paladins and her scheme in playing with us shows that she is resourceful. She doens't need to rely on brute force only. Add that to the obscurity of her sphere and you have a formidable foe."

"Maranda is more resourceful than she sometimes gives herself credit for," Loranna says. "I get the impression we saw only the tail end of a very long and grueling trial for her - so yes, if we can help her let's do so."

She smiles again, briefly. " ... In a way it was sort of funny, us fighting illusions with pillows and candlesticks," she notes, a small, ironic chuckle escaping her lips.

"This fight has been surreal, yes, and not only because it was in Oblivion." Nalion replied thoughtfully. "I felt helpless out there. No magick, no weapons of use..." Nalion's voice trailed off.

"Luckily, i'm not disarmed like that," Reichi said, grinning.

Loranna's expression sobers up, and she looks at Nalion with thoughtful eyes.

" ... I know how you felt; I felt the same myself," she says. "Both tonight and several times before. But let me ask you one thing Nalion; what spell did you use to defeat the Azurites on Hogithum?"

Nalion opened his mouth to answer, then shut it again. His brown eyes returned Lorannas gaze.
"I didn't use a spell." he said, recalling the moment on Red Mountain. His eyes shone with realization. "I think I understand what you mean, Loranna. There are other strengths than just magicka or weapons..."

"Now watch me promptly forget this little bit of wisdom the next time someone gets a Dispel or Silence spell through my defenses," Loranna says, grinning at Nalion.

She takes another sip of wine. "I liked the pillow throw, you know; that was inspired," she says.

"No Loranna, in more than one way you are wiser than I ever could hope to be." Nalion answers his eyes still serious, then he chuckled.

"Seriously, there was nothing else I could do. I thought about ripping out a bedpost and use it as a club, but look at me... do I appear as one who has the physical strength to rip it out?" the mage grinned openly now.

"I liked your move with the bedsheet."

"The idea of throwing the snake was nice, even if it didn't particularly work," Reichi said.

"Know the field of battle and you have won half the war," Loranna says, winking. "And that particular battlefield, I visit often. I kind of wish you had tried ripping the bedpost out though; that would have been fun to see."

She giggles. "And I've also learned never underestimate a man's strength - besides, you're not that weak-looking. You're just not built like a typical Nord lad, is all."

"Heh; I just didn't want a snake slithering up my arm," Loranna admits. "I'm lucky it even occured to me to throw it at the Duke instead of just away from me."

Nalion laughed at Loranna's battlefield comment. "You don't want to see that, believe me, it would certainly look most stupid. And I don't want to give Meridia new ideas."
Nalion took a sip from his ale.
"As you pointed out earlier, my strengths may lie not particularly in the physical abilities. I'm quite content with my appearance though. This adventuring keeps one in shape, though I have to blame Allerleirauh's excellent household for the one or other gram of unnecessary body
mass." the mage chuckled.

Loranna simply smiles, and raises er glass to her lips one more time; the night passed enjoyably from there, no illusions nor Daedra, just good drink and good company.
