Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: High Rock Hijinks
Posted by: Loranna May 6 2005, 10:32 AM
Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads,
where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant
Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:
This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!
'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events
in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be
certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in
the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized
individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.
So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and
do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear
about what cannot be done without permission:
1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although
most people realize they can't harm another person's character without
permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without
permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing,
saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with
the player involved.
2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the
world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations),
political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all
the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists
in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without
DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.
Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP.
If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If
you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character
you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's
PM function. That's what it's there for.
For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look
http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.
Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is
likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is
obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing
them.
Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before
they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and
afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.
Thank you, and have fun!

You are all invited to Solunastra, the Void Ranger Guildhouse in
Solunastra is chartered as a "brotherly association of adventurers,"
which means basically that they have pension plans, charitable associations,
and floats in parades. The public face of the Guild is of a group of
semi-retired adventurers who pooled their earnings to buy a large house and
sponsor a school for orphans.
Although most of the current residents of the Guildhouse are Void Rangers, they
keep this a secret, and in the past there have been associate members who were
not Void Rangers.
The house is large, with 5 wings, three floors, and a cellar, grotto, and
dungeon under the house. It's on Royal Row in Daggerfall, just down the road
from Castle Daggerfall, and it sits on a square with a large fountain and a
statue of Tiber Septim out front. Out back is an herb garden and a statue of

The two closest taverns to the Guildhouse are: The Rat's Satchel, a merry place
frequented by athletes, actors, poets, and idle noblemen, notable for the lack
of women servers and patrons; and The Emperor's Jewel's, an upscale
establishment frequented by retired military officers, mostly those who fought
for Daggerfall's army in the recent wars.
The first floor of the Guildhouse is mostly public rooms, including a grand
dining hall, an informal dining area connected to the kitchen, and the music
room, a cosy wooden panelled room where people gather to play musical
intruments (such as the organ) and do other handwork. Upstairs is a ballroom,
and private quarters: this is where the party will be staying. The rooms are
small, but private, although there is also a barracks area left over from the days
when the Guild was much more populous. The third floor has Allerleirauh's
quarters. The third floor staircase is legendarily treacherous. Don't go up
there. The armory and training area are underground, next to the cellars.
The primary residents of Solunastra are as follows:
Allerleirauh, a tall, slender woman with short silver hair who calls
herself a Nord. She is the founder of Solunastra, and her title here is General
Light.
The other two resident guild masters are Arynel and Solin.
Ciel Dolbinen is Solunastra's seneshal, which means he's in charge of
keeping the place running.
Dragon, an older male Nord, is the sword trainer of Solunastra, among
other things. He can often be found polishing swords and armor, or practicing
in the training area. He loves to spar with new people.
Mirror, aka Tris Gaerington, a handsome young male Breton.
Doll, a young girl with Akaviri facial features. She's a mage.
Skein, an older Imperial woman with long black hair and deep black eyes,
is the Guild's seer.
Mirea, redheaded Bosmer girl, is Allerleirauh's spy.
Tamne, an Azurite child, is Allerleirauh and Arynel's adopted daughter.
Sen-Yedda, the infant princess of the Dunmer people, spends most of her
time in Allerleirauh's company, when she's not with her nurse, Redguard woman
Jalian Hawkford.
Igba gra-Busnak is the Guild's cook. Don't go in the kitchen without her
permission.
Timmon, a young Breton boy, is Igba's servant.
There are also 3 servingmaids, all young, all from poor families originally,
although they are well-dressed in Solunstra's blue and silver livery.

Radont descended hte stairs and turned a corner. He saw the sparring room and
entered with excitement in his eyes. Also in the room was Dragon, the legendary
commander during the wars against Orsinium. Radont gave a salute and greeting,
"I'm Radont, Knight Bachelor of the Imperial Legion, it is an honor to

Loranna keeps quiet so as not to disturb either Jalain or Sen-Yedda, simply
staring with a sad yet happy smile on her face; the little princess was so
adorable and beautiful ...
She looks over at Allie, not wanting to disturb Jalian but feeling a sudden

"If it's not too much trouble." Radont said,
glad to around armor and swords again. "We could spar after that if
you have an extra blade."
Now Dragon smiled broadly. It was the first real emotion Radont had seen from
him. Though pleasant enough, Dragon had a distant, vague manner, like a person
searching for something lost.
"If you're up for it, lad. I'm still faster than you might think."
Dragon bent and worked a combination lock on a heavy stone door, then a metal
door, then a metal cage.
"Won't deter a determined thief," he said. "But most thieves are
a casual lot."
He led the way into the armory. Solunastra's stock of weapons had been greatly
reduced by the need to provide enchanted weapons to Ald Raathim during the
Azurite conflict, but still, examples of nearly every weapon found in Tamriel,
and some from outside it, lined the walls here. Racks of armor stood to either
side of the stone vault like dozens of sentries. Though there were no lights,
and they were beneath ground, the entire chamber was lit by the glow of the
magical weapons and armor around them.
"Here," Dragon said. "I like this one. Can't use it to save
myself, but it's a lovely blade."
He lifted a dainty sword of Akaviri manufacture, perfectly plain in design,
with a long, curved blade, and swung it at the wall. Despite his protests that
he didn't know how to use it, he seemed to manage well enough. The blade cut deeply
into the stone of the wall, making a cut parallel to two other cuts, obviously
places where Dragon had tested the blade before.
Dragon held the blade out for inspection. "Over five hundred years old,
and look at the condition it's in. I don't know what I'd do if it ever needed
sharpened, nothing I can do will put a dent in it. Beautiful craftsmen, those
snake men."

Maranda entered through the citys west gate, her horse galloping
at a steady rate, she slowed the horse down as she approched the grand square,
looking up the Avenue to Castle Daggerfall in the distance. Apparently, at the
house to the South East, there was some kind of commotion. This was the wealthy
section of town, and these manors always had some sort of party going on but it
was not far to her familys residence. She wondered how they had been since she
suddenly left almost four years ago, to persue her doomed career in Daedra
Worshiping...
It was before her, the family residence. It was a single story building, yet it
took up quite an area of land. Her father gained his wealth trading weapons
during the wars that raged through the region during the Pretender Tharns
reign, a merchant of death, but one of the wealthiest families in the entire
city. He was granted with the title of baron under King Lysandus, but after the
kings death, lost favour with the court, and had been in declining health
since. Her mother was long dead, and she had a sole sister, Aritha was a bit of
a tomboy, saying she would take over the family business. Maranda approched the
door and knocked, wondering what had happened to her family...

Biennie Residence, Daggerfall City
A old looking Redguardopened the door and looked Maranda up and down,
"Who may you be?"
"I wish to speak to the Master of the House, please, say its Maranda"
Maranda replied
'Mistress Aritha is currently with a client. Do you mind returning at a later
time?" the Redguard replied
Maranda thought for a second... her father was not the master of the house...
but that must mean... she put her hand over her mouth,
"Baron Biennie... has passed on?' she asked
"oh, yes, he had been sick for some time, but after his daughter ran away,
he got worse... and eventually died almost a year ago now."
Maranda felt somthing auful in her stomach... another she had killed, although
indirectly... everyone she was ever close to died... was this her curse?
"Very well, I shall return later this evening, tell Mistress Aritha that
Maranda passed by, and wanted to talk of old times," she said, turning to
her horse, and mounting on it.
The elderly Redguard was thinking hard about the name... Maranda, where had he
heard that name before? As he saw the girl ride off to the west it struck him
who she was, "I must tell the mistress Immediatly!" he said, as
maranda headed towards the cemetary

QUOTE(Sir Radont @ May 6 2005, 05:15 AM)
Radont looked around and chose a plain looking steel long blade
and also picked up a steel tower shield. After drinking down the contents
of the vial, the Imperial nodded. "Ready when you are."
The old man took his stance. With a sword at the ready, everything about him
changed. Radont could see the years drop away, and the Nordic joy in fighting
emerge.
His first swing was fast as lightning - and a feint. He followed it with
another. Too quick to think, the third, fourth, and fifth strokes followed.
Most swordsmen could only hold a certain number of actions in their minds
without getting confused and drawn out of position. Dragon didn't seem to have
that problem. He didn't seem to have a problem with putting weight into his
blows, either. Or with using the momentum of one swing to carry him into
another without being predictable.
Radont felt pain, shock and dizziness... but as soon as he felt them, they
passed, and he found himself uninjured.

Cemetary, Daggerfall City, Daggerfall
Abron Verez Biennie
Maranda read the tombstone again, it was definatly her fathers. the sun was
setting, and the music had changed. the pixelized houses were turning darker...
it dawned on her for a second... since when had there been music? Since when
had there been pixelized houses? She looked at herself, she seemed real enough.
Confused, she went to the nearest person, the grave keeper. For some reason, no
matter where she was, he always looked directly at her, and did not change pose...
"Exuse me, sir, but" maranda started, as a strange menu appeared just
in front of the character, there was four tabs, and a list of guilds and
shops... somthing was definatly wrong... She went to draw her sword, but found
it was missing... her Ocarina was gone too. She attempted to summon a Daedric
blade, but it did not work, as if Conjouring magic was not even around... then
she heard it...
VENGENCE!!!!!!
A strange world, she thought, this was definatly a test... but on what? She
looked down at the grave of her father, it was not there... slowly, she walked
towards the Biennie Residence, looking at the strange people. It was unnerving,
as they were always looking at her, with the wierd smiles on her face...

Radont hid behind his shield, it was all he could do to keep from being cut into
ribbons. Each lightning fast blow pushed the young Imperial backwards. He was
amazed at the quickness and strength of the old Nord. Radont rolled ot the side
as anohter swing came down, crashing into the floor. He stood quickly and
closed the distance, bringing his own blade dow on Dragon. The Nord easily
sidestepped and countered with a slash of his own. It cut Radont deeply but the
wound healed instantly. Radont blocked the next blow and countered, slashing at
the Nord with suprising quickness. The strike managed to graze the Legends
cheek.

Loranna grins a bit. "Well, the next day when I
stopped and thought about it, I wondered myself," she admits.
"That's when I resolved not to look in on Sen-Yedda again without your
permission first. I haven't even really tried to look in on anyone else
either; it's ... well, you would probably know what sort of temptation that
could be."
She raps on the bedpost herself, repeating "Yes, let's hope things stay
good for a while," feeling herself relax a bit.
"Anyway, there were a couple other things I wanted to discuss," she
continues. "I'm starting to accumulate my own fortune now; I know
it'll will still take a while, but at some point, I would like to contribute to

Allerleirauh smiled. "I like Ald Raathim, it's a good place. Let's start
with establishing it firmly as what Jazbet dreamed for it to be... a haven for
those who love freedom. You'll find, I think, that wrestling with House Dres
takes more of your ready cash than you expect it to. Then we can expand from
there."
She bent over Sen-Yedda, with a wicked smile.
"Besides. It pleases me to think King Helseth has something to occupy his
mind. It will help keep his pretty little paws away from us."

Radont felt his knee take leave of his body. It was a sickening sensation - for
a heartbeat. The next heartbeat, everything was all right again.
The old man's stance was solid, unbreakable. Really the only way to get through
was to batter him directly - but then he just stepped backwards out of range.
There was only one point of weakness - his sword arm, as he struck. If you
could just evade the blade while you attacked, that arm was open.

Night in this strange world was falling speedily, as if time was
different here. All the doors were locked, there was no way in, as people
started to dissapear from the streets. She heard it again... VENGENCE!!!!
She remembered, that, during her childhood, there was a ghost that roamed the
streets, the ghost of King Lysandus... her fathers patron. Phantoms appeared,
but did not attack her, yet looked at her in an unnerving way. She approched
her house, but found the door locked... a mesage appeared in front of her,
"This lock poses no threat from you"
VENGENCE!!!!
The yells seemed to be coming from the square to the south east, and Maranda
seemed drawn to it, she passed the large mansion to the and entered the square,
a green ghost stood there, facing maranda. She was shocked when she saw who it
was... the ghost looked at her, a fire seeming to rage into her eyes,
"VENGENCE!" he yelled, holding the White Gold Sword in his hand, and
charging at Maranda

she could not summon anything... or could she? She thought about things for a
minute, and looked at her finger, yes, her ring was still there. She rubbed her
finger across the opal jewel, and yelled, "COME, FLAMY!"
"ROAR!!!!!
The ten foot high Flame Monarch appeared, his arms flaming with passion, like
he was powered up... the world seemed to shake... as the image that surrounded
her seemed to disintigrate, and the fake Daggerfall dissapeared, as did the
Ghost... there was blackness around her, her White Gold Sword hanging in the
void that was before her... It seemed like summoning Flamy had the effect of
destroying the realm that she was in... the ground beneath her vaporized, and

"You still do not get it, do you, my dear Maranda... but I must

reappearing on her throne. Flamy looked different to what he did before hand,

Tiles

Maranda looked around, for a way to defeat him... he seemed

melting... on the side of Meridia's Throne, was the Ocarina. Quickly she cast
Mark, and Sprinted towards the chair, launching a Telekanisis spell on the
Ocarina, bringing it to her hands. Flamey Lunged a fireball at her, as Maranda
cast recall, and Meridia vaporized into myst to avoid the flame...
Looking at where the throne used to be, was but a bubbling ooze of melted
Platinum... Maranda looked at Flamey, who yelled out in frustration, ROAR!!!!!

as Meridia reappeared in the far corner... a smile on her face

had a complete night's sleep in a while. He was mumbling something in his sleep
about 'killer bunnies'.
Nalion turned to Loranna. "I fear our dear furry friend has fallen asleep.

restore fatigue with me..." the Breton mage could not help it, but his

Flamey looked at Maranda inquisitivly, as Maranda played the
song. Trickers Reqeium... the aura that Flamey produced was blocking out the
strange vibrations in the Mana Flows that the song caused... but the earthquake
it could not hide... the ground shook, as the double arched doors opened
ROAR!!!!!
a cool breeze blew in from the door, as the massive arched window in the back
broke
ROAR!!!!!
an eletrical storm began to rage outside
ROAR? Flamey said, wondering what

Through the door came a ten foot high Ice Monarch, through the
window came a ten foot high Storm Monarch... each looked at Maranda in
anticipation
Roar? they asked, waiting for
orders
"Slay that Flame Monarch!" Maranda ordered
Roar they said, each blasting a
spell at Flamey
ROAR!!!! Flamey cried out in pain
as the spells hit... he turned to Sparky, and fired a flame ball at him.
Maranda used this as her chance. She had been studing Destruction Magic
recently, so she began to funnel her energy, and called fowarth a powerful Ice
Spell... aiming it directly at his head. The spell hit Flamey, who cried out in
pain. Maranda then cast levitate, and slashed the Flame Monarch across the
face, casting recall before he could strike backand slicing his leg with the
sword. Flamey was perplexed... there were three foes blasting him, his health
was low, and he did not know what to do. Maranda drank a restore Magika potion,
and levitated again, as everything dissapeared...
Maranda looked around her... she was back in Daggerfall, floating above the
city propper, below the square near her home. The spell wore off, and Maranda
dropped to the ground with a thud...

Nowhere.
Somewhere.
The little girl only thought her eyes were open because she thought she felt
her eyelids rise. She could not be sure, though. Her eyelids, her whole body
felt numb, impossibly heavy, as if the physical form were a prison, a weight
that held her down. And even when she thought her eyes were open, still there
was still no light.
The surface beneath her was cold and hard, like stone. Maybe metal.
Concentrating, she raised up her hand. It touched more metal but a few inches
up.
She was surrounded on all sides in a kind of a box. Outside, there was a low
whistling, like wind on a desolate, treeless plain. But she could not see it.
She touched her hand to her face. Both were cold as stone.
She did not know where she was. She did not know who she was. She had been
sleeping for a long time now.
But she could breathe. She was alive. She did not feel hunger or thirst, but
she felt fear.
The wind picked up outside the box, and covered the echoing, hollow sound of
the little girl’s scream.

A shiver seemed to run through the glass of the mirror, like a stone dropping
in a still pond. For a flashing second, Loranna and Slyvos saw themselves in
their past, present, and future shapes and forms, different ages, different
illusions, Loranna's flesh turning pale and ashen, her belly swelling and
disappearing. Slyvos too saw Dagoth Lich in his skeletal form, the red-haired
Dunmer of the illusion, and the khajiiti bodied present appearance.
Then the image returned to normal.
Almost normal.
There was something about the figures in the reflection that did not quite
match Slyvos and Loranna. Nothing you could name, but somehow, they were
slightly faded, slightly different. Not true reflections at all, but imperfect

Jazbet's eyes widened and his mouth fell open.
"By Rajhin," he gasped.
"Well, I'm the luckiest guy out of existence," Jazbet smiled, looking
forwards the mirror.
The reflection of Loranna duplicated the dance. On her finger was the
cat's-eye ring, worn as a wedding band.
"The afterlife is a lot more interesting than you've heard," the
khajiit grinned.
Loranna laughs, and looks to the reflection, smiling impishly. "I hereby
charge thee with making sure he is properly punished for making me cry
earlier," she says, mock-serious.
"Jazbet love, you tease me even in death; you're the lovliest man ever
next to the man you're standing next to," Loranna says. "Now you have
me wanting to ask all sorts of questions about he afterlife - though I can
guess a bit of yours, now."
" ... Though, you did mention before that the boundries are weak now; can
you tell us anything about that?" she asks. "I imagine other people
may be a little more freaked out by seeing old loved ones reappear ..."
I wish Allie could see you one more time at least, Loranna thinks. I
think she would like that; it might brighten her day ... Then, an old
memory about her, Allie, Jazbet, and the herb garden pops into mind, the
presence of Aricyn carefully edited out to allow for a somewhat different
ending.

Summary type object!
Reichi is with the group in solunastra, kicking around the building, and
generally just being Reichi.
And, oh, resisting the urge to go out and eat one of those oh so tastey horses.
Mmm...Horse.
Tohe, however, is away from the main Group, elsewhere in the province of
Highrock...
----------
Solunastra
Reichi wandered through the building, throughly amazed. It was a very
nice building, for Bretonian architecture. Not to mention he particularly liked
the banners of the moon sun and stars. Reichi had none of his armor on him,
instead, he wore plain black pants, and a Morag Tong styled shirt. The kind he
remebered being worn by two unfortunate Tong members who had attempted a
Assassination on the Redoran Athyn Sarethi, and failed. Reichi wore one article
of "Armor", netch leather boots. He also still had both his Dagger of
Senses, which wassecured in the back of his belt, and his enchanted Daedric
Shortsword, which hung in a sturdy sheath at his side. As he wasn't wearing the
netch leather gloves he had been when fully armored, now both his Rings were in
full view.
Of course, there was only one on each hand. Couldn't risk them cancelling each
other out and a untimely change.
--------------
Outside of a small high Rock town, a Cemetery
This had to be it. The Cemetery was relatively new, and the names were on the
gravestones. Oddly, the Werewolf's corpse was absent. Though its' scent was
there. The rope it had hung from, too, was there, and had several hairs on it.
The noose was cut. Someone had taken the body. Or cut it loose and let the
animals do so.
Tohe proceeded to the graves of his Parents. He paid his respects, leaving
several flowers on the space between the two graves. Unlike others, there was
no ghostly visit. He didn't mind. Frankly, Ghostly visits would have troubled
him. The dead usually like to stay that way. He however, did feel a passing
sensation of warmth and happiness, but ignored it.
"So...the Slayer returns," said a soft voice from behind him, a
predatory tone in it. He turned to face a Girl, little older than him. Her hair
was a chestnut brown, and her eyes a jade coloration, she wore a suit of steel
plate, and at her side was a Silver Long sword. Tohe raised an eyebrow.
"I have a score to settle with you," the girl said. "You slew my
Father."
It clicked, that was why the corpse was gone. The girl was the daughter of the
Wolf. "It was in self defense," Tohe said, waving his hands about
vaguely. Apparently, he didn't have to deal with physical ghosts, spirits.
Rather, he had a figurative ghost of the past. One scarcely linked to his own.
"He couldn't control himself," the girl replied in defense. "You
and I both know that."
Tohe grimaced. "Its not true, one can control it, but there are certain
methods, rituals, tricks, patterns of thoughts to achieve it. I have some
meager control over it, and a friend who has a much better control. It can be
done."
"Prove it," the girl said, hand resting on the blade. There wasn't a
doubt in her mind she would kill him at the first sign of hostility. Well, try.
Tohe however, wouldn't, he was too nice. That was why his control was so weak.
Why Reichi's was so much stronger.
"Are you suggesting that I should...transform and prove I can control
myself?" Tohe asked, incredulous.
"How else are you going to prove it?" She replied, partway drawing
the blade.
Tohe sighed, and initated the shift. Like flipping the switch to a floodgate,
it felt so simple and insignificant. Then, you noticed the water rolling down
on you and were swept away.
As the shift completed, the girl drew her sword, holding it square in front of
her, in case he had lied. Tohe stood in place. "Sit," she said,
smirking slightly. Tohe resisted a rising urge to give her a good thrashing,
and sat. "I see, you're telling the truth then..." she said, lowering
the blade. "Otherwise, I know you would have just charged on me."
Tohe just gave her an annoyed glare. "Aren't you going to change
back?" she asked. She didn't know that it took time before he would be
capable of such, her father, the Werewolf that had killed the father and mother
of Tohe and made him into one, had never changed except on the forced full moon
shift. He hated what he was. Tohe had embraced it, knowing that if he could
control himself, at least partially, he could avoid slaying. Avoid making more
like him, avoid ending up like the one he slew.
Tohe shook his head, unable to explain why he couldn't do back. The girl
smirked, and began to walk off. "Farewell then, Wolf boy," she said.
"If I catch wind of you killing anyone like a normal Werewolf, I’ll have
your head. As I’ve decided you're no threat to anyone, if i'm wrong, I will
correct it."
Tohe sighed, and began off towards Daggerfall. Might as well put his form to
some use. Werewolves had even greater speed and endurance than a normal wolf.
-------
Solnastra Again
Reichi looked around, he had heard a growl. Then blinked, realizing something,
and punched himself lightly in the stomach. "Stop doing that," he
scolded. Stupid stomach.

She smiles at her reflection. "Until then though ... may you both find joy

To Slyvos, he said, “Challenge her, make her laugh, make love to her, tell her

Jazbet and the reflected Loranna kiss, and as they do, the mirror shimmers and

Tears flow as though to water the hall with the feelings in her heart; she
turns to Slyvos and pulls him into a perfect reflection of the figures depicted

"Time to go into dinner," she said.
Solunastra's horseshoe shaped table was laden with silver chargers full of rich

glittering sugar tail; a whole roast swan. And wine for every course, of High

Teleran’s mouth watered as the food was served. He licked his
lips in anticipation of the food, all of it smelled so delicious. When the
servers finished serving he wasted all of a millisecond before shoveling a
mouthful of roast swan into his mouth. He slowed his eating after that first
mouthful in order to actually taste the food. For a good few minutes he was
unable to speak. Not that he minded, it was for a good cause. And eating didn’t

kind of food served, especially the peacock was delicious.
He'd never been to such a feast, of course, during their travels, they had
stayed in some well led taverns and the dinner in Narsis with the Tong was a

Ald Raathim... Once it had been a small, unassuming town, it's
citizens Dunmer who were comfortable with a life a bit more peaceful than many
of their countrymen. That was before the War.
The makeshift stables, smithies, and houses that had been erected by the town's
Nordic allies had grown into sturdily built, intricately decorated, and very
permanent, timber buildings. The town now stretched from the shore to the
castle, all along the main road.
There had been a time, a month or so ago, that the Nords, Aricyn included, had
thought of moving on. The war was over, and there was nothing to keep them. As
spring slowly turned to summer, though, so did the minds of the Nords turn to
this new land.
They were nomadic people, at heart, and this new land of green hills, sharp
black stones, and calm seas were as good as any other. They stayed, and with
time, Ald Raathim began to accept them in return.
***
Aricyn sat on a cool slab of stone overlooking the bay. Beside him sat Gris,
the huge orc that had introduced himself by trying to split Aricyn's head open
with an axe.
An old grey wolf, Aricyn's constant companion, snored a wheezy snore in the
grass nearby.
Aricyn and Gris had been discussing combat, as usual. It was late in the day,
and the conversation was over. According to the orc, it had served to further
confirm the fact that Aricyn was a fool. That, too, was usual for their
conversations.
Aricyn sat for awhile after the orc's stomping tread faded in the distance. The
sea wind felt good on the back of his neck, and he could smell flowers from the
fields behind him.
Looking out to sea, he noticed a Nordic woman standing alone on the shore. She
was some yards away, but seemed to be watching him. Having little else to do,
he decided to pass the time of day with her.
He lept lightly from the rock, letting the old wolf sleep, and headed down the
beach.
The woman was armored for battle, and carried something carefully at her bosom.
The setting sun was bright behind her, and her silhouetted hair looked like
fire in its light.
Aricyn knew that hair. He knew that bosom.
"I'm sorry, my Chief." The woman said.
The sun dipped, and Aricyn could see it plainly through the woman's
bloodspattered face.
"Magnilde?" he said, his voice coming to him with great difficulty.
"Yes..." the woman held up her bundle, a quietly sleeping baby,
wrapped in the tatters of a ripped and torn banner. "And this is your
son."
Aricyn felt faint. He couldn't feel his fingers.
"I am sorry that I didn't tell you," Magnilde said.
The Dead did not lightly appear to the children of the sky. It was always taken
as a sign of great fortune or greater disaster.
Aricyn gasped for breath.
"Magnilde... I knew. Be at peace. You don't need to linger here."
The spectre smiled. Her face was covered in ash and blood, but she was still
noble, still beautiful.
"I cannot do otherwise, my Chief..."
For a moment, the look on her face turned to utter terror, then both she and
the baby burst, as if they had been dropped from a great height onto hard
stone.
Aricyn screamed.
The wolf nuzzled his ear and stood by his side while he vomited into the sand.
***
Aricyn told no one of his encounter. He was quiet at dinner in the castle's
hall, but those that knew him expected that, from time to time.
He retired early to his room, and lay staring at the moon-dappled bedcurtains,
thinking of the baby he had seen on the beach.
At the end of his bed, by the mirror, stood Magnilde, cradling the sleeping
baby in her arms.
"I failed you," she said "I failed you as a soldier, and I
failed you as a woman. I did not win the field, nor did I bear your son."
"Magnilde," Aricyn said, sitting up in the cool night air, "I
release you from your bonds and oaths. Go, now, and join our kin in the Great Halls."
"I cannot, dear man. The road is long, and always turning. It turns, and I
find myself here again.
"More will come, many more," she said, and then her face turned to
horror.
Aricyn knew what was coming, but it did not help. When he opened his eyes, his
bed was not actually covered with blood and bones and brains, but that was
little comfort.
***
The next morning, there was a note for him from Loranna. He was invited to
Solunastra, Allerleirauh's much-talked-about home.
Gris simply scoffed when Aricyn suggested he accompany him.
Leaving young Helgi Hagslayer in charge, Aricyn, his horse, and the old grey
wolf departed from the mage's guild, headed for Daggerfall.
Sadly, his reason for going would not be entirely social.

turning contemplative. "He is ... oh friends, his eyes shine like
twin blue stars and his laugh is as musical and as uplifting as it ever was in
life; he is as happy as I have ever hoped to see him, and he loves us all as
much as ever ..."
She wipes her mositening eyes. "He even left Slyvos and I a wedding
gift ... oh, Allie, I'm afraid you're short one mirror now. It's been
turned into a most lovely tapestry; I'll show it to you all after dinner."
"That's a great deal of power, for a mere ghost," Allerleirauh said,
after a moment. She tried to smile. "Was Jazbet in the habit of
transforming mirrors into tapestries when he was alive?"
"Dom wasn't in the habit of making forests come alive and swarm priests
with maggots when he was alive either," Tris pointed out, practically.
"Ghosts have strange powers."
"Ghosts have as much power as we give them," Doll said, very softly.
She didn't sound pleased at the thought of facing her own spirits.
Skein, at the far end of the table, listened and ate, her still dark eyes
unreadable.

Have to treat them with respect or else.”

He had said, surely, that he didn't mind Dagoth stealing his body. Which was a

have his permission.

"It is strange though, now that you bring it up. First Dom, then Lirielle.
Tris, you told Loranna recently that Ciel's wife has revealed her. Now, it's
Jazbet."
The mage thought for a moment.
"As much as I loved to see Lirielle again, but four ghosts in such a short
time, all closely related to our party. Something just doesn't feel
right."

Then everything seemed almost normal - until Slyvos's reflection spoke to us,

only spoke up when I directly addressed her, as a way to tease Jazbet about

It was raining when Aricyn arrived on the streets of Daggerfall
City, and evening. The citizens of its busy streets were safely indoors.
He rode through the unfamiliar streets, following the directions he was given.
He wasn't fond of cities, and all the houses looked alike. Of course, according
to his directions, he was looking for houses that looked alike.
The rainy night swallowed the lamplight on the lonely street as Aricyn made his
way south of the local castle.
Suddenly, the rain-drenched wolf at his side froze, and Kynidius jerked to a halt
as well, whinnying with nervousness.
Across the square, in the center of the street, stood a shaggy little pony.
Aricyn peered at the sturdy beast, then dismounted. Walking slowly across the
square, hand outstretched, he made low, comforting noises to the strange pony.
"Ho boy, you're a beauty, aren't you? Ho, there. Long way from home, eh?
Where's your master? Drunk somewhere?"
The pony stood quite still.
"Wait... I know you. Stian..."
Aricyn reached out and put his hand out towards the pony's shaggy, perfectly
dry mane, and the wolf bit him gently in the ankle.
"Hey!"
With a horrible squeal, the pony lept into the air and burst, just as Magnilde
and the baby had done.
"By the Winds, old friend," Aricyn said to the wolf, "Thank you.
That wasn't an animal that a man needs to ride, was it?"
"Whuff..." said the wolf.
Retrieving his horse, Aricyn found what he was looking for; four identical
houses around a center square.

A fiery face, a sword in Loranna's lap.

Loranna had been quiet, remembering that Maranda had reacted somewhat badly to

quietly prepares a dispel in case she summons Flamey.
"Maranda dear ... it's okay; the dream's over, you're awake now," she

moved away from the ring... "Daggerfall City? Oh, I am so sorry... I have
been in quite a bad way... where abouts in daggerfall city, might I ask?"
She looked around the room and saw many hostile faces... her eyes narrowed,
"although I feel your welcome is sincere, I think many of your companions
would rather not be with me..."
Nalion digged through his memory. He had seen her just once, but after
Lorannas' and Allerleirauhs words, he was able to puzzle together the events.
"If those you have opposed - and you truly seemed to have a certain reason
then - will invite you to stay with us, you will be welcome to me, too."
the mage said politely. It was, after all, Allerleirauh's house.
Nalion smiled for a short time, then eyed her curiously. Her sudden
"appearance" and her current state of mind looked as if she had seen
bad things lately.

Daggerfall...
The looks of the few townsfolk that where still out in the rainy evening were
dumbfounded to say the least. A Bosmer as brown, and tall as Wind always got
strange looks, but walking, and talking with an Ogrim, always sealed the deal
for the strangest sight ever seen in Tamriel.
The town had been told ahead of time that the strange duo where harmless, but
some townsfolk still grabbed up their kids, and some were so bold as to fondle
their weapons. Sneering, razor toothed growls from the mammoth, Ogrim, every
time someone touched a weapon, didn’t help the situation.
“We’re late... fashionably of course.” The mahogany Bosmer says, flipping up
the collar of his leather netch jacket.
“Roo-rook” Little John replies, looking around frustrated.
“Just ignore them, LJ. We’re almost to the castle.”
Approaching the castle Wind turns and points a stern finger at his green
companion. “Please try not to break anything.”
“Rawk ree?” Little John remarks, while smiling, showing off knife sized teeth.
“That’s what I’m afraid of.” Wind says, as he walks through the castle doors.

"Arms merchant of some kind, wasn't he? Died not too long ago, daughter's

Upon seeing Wind and Little John enter, Nalion smiled. He was
surprised that they were here, but he was not disturbed, having spoken with
them before. Nontheless, he eyed the Ogrim, then his plate, then the rest of
the food and decided that this lovely piece of swan would taste great now.
Swiftly, almost magickally, a good slice of the swan decorated his plate. The
mage could not help but grin. The food was truly delicious.
He looked around and spotted Igba, the Orcish cook and lifted his glass of wine
in tribute to her.

Wind dusted off his jacket, and turned towards the castle down the street. “The
guards didn’t have to be fah’gers about it.” Wind states, with a frown. “How
was I supposed to know which house it was?”
Little John shrugs his colossal shoulders, as he ducks into the house.
“This whole damn town looks like it was build by two preschoolers copying off
each other.”
Wind gives a slight nod to the whole room, as little Johns eyes grow big, as he
sees the enormous feast.

Wind throws a glance to Little John, and whispers something
inaudible. Seconds later, Little John awkwardly, walks hunched over, to the far
side of the room, and sits down. The foundation of the house shakes, as his fat
green hide hits the hardwood.
At the same time, Wind strolls over to the table, grabs a chair, spins it
around, and sits down.
“Howdy, Mates. What’s the haps?”

Aricyn emerged from the kitchen, wearing fresh clothes and
drying his hair.
He took one glance around the room, shook his head at the new guests, and sat
down to eat.
He tended to devour breame in creme sauce and glazed peacock with the same
businesslike manner with which he ate trail rations.

bad."

"She explodes?" Tris asked.
Aricyn sighed.
"Every time, at the end. She gets a look of horror on her face, and grabs
for something, then she... bursts... Like a thrown tomato."
He took a long drink from his wine glass.
"I think she... they... died by falling from the mountain."

Loranna's eyes widen in surprise ...
" ... That's ... the first time we've heard of a departed replaying the
way they died ..." she says quietly, looking to the others. "Things
are starting to change already in how the dead return."

"No," Tris said, with a look of sudden horror. "They died by
being dropped from a height by Winged Twilights. I saw her fall, didn't know
her with the armor and the helmet covering her hair, but I saw her mouth open,
screaming, as I tried to cast a spell to save her. And a damned Twilight flew in
the path of my spell, and I lost sight of her altogether."

Aricyn said nothing, but simply stood up and left the table.

"Things are starting to change already in how the dead return."
"Yes, what is disturbing is that now the dead seek us. The first three
times we were seeking them and gave them a reason to appear." Nalion said
thoughtfully, and unsettled. "If the walls separating the dead from the
living truly are weakened, is it just us that are experiencing it. We are not
technically common people. What if there are other ghosts out
there?"
The Breton mage shot a worried glance at Aricyn. He had not seen the man in
this mood before.

Maranda was totally oblivious to the events around her, but she
had not had a meal this good in a while... she finished, put her cutlary
together, and stood, "thankyou for the meal, I shall show myself out"
She turned, giving a polite nod to allie, and made for the door

Radont stood and walked up to the second floor. He entered his
room and peeled off the clothes Dragon had given him and tossed them
haphazardly onto a chair. The Imperial flopped onto the bad face down above the
covers and closed his eyes tightly.

Loranna gives Maranda a small wave, looking unconforably at Aricyn's retreating
figure.
She glances at Tris for a moment.

politely, as she looked around for her sword, finding it near the door

"I see," Allerleirauh said, and bowed to her departing figure.
"I'm going after him," she said to Loranna. "You're too nice,
you'd only make him angry."
She patted Solin's shoulder gently, to indicate that he should take over the
honors of host, and left the room.
Aricyn was sitting by the unlighted fire in the stone hall off from the
ballroom upstairs. Without candles or firelight, it was a cheerless place, but
the large window of paneled glass looked out into the branches of an enormous
oak tree.
She said nothing, simply walked up behind him and put both hands on his
shoulders.

...
Loranna gives Allie a grim smile. "My thoughts exactly, actually,"
she says. "Good luck dear, and thank you."
She turns to finish what's left of her meal, thinking to herself that she
should talk to Tris when he has a free moment; a discrete glance at the
handsome Breton is enough to convey her intent.

"You'll tell him yourself later," Allerleirauh said.
She kneaded the rock-hard muscles of Aricyn's shoulders. Such a big man's body,
yet he was barely more than a boy. She felt certain he hadn't been with another
woman since Magnilde's death. The others had been playing, laughing, drinking;
Aricyn had not gone with them. He had enjoyed, vicariously, watching those he
had saved from destruction. He had saved no comfort for himself.
She said none of this, simply worked at his muscles with her strong,
swordfighter's hands.

"Come with me a moment," she said.
She led him upstairs to a darkened room, where Jalian sat reading and Sen-Yedda
slept. The Redguard woman stood up instantly at the opening of the door;
Allerleirauh put her finger to her lips.
The baby, however, was awake. She made funny yowling cries and reached clumsily
with her hands towards Aricyn's white hair.
Allerleirauh picked her up and gave her to him.
"Come," she said. "Outside, in the garden. She likes night
best."

"If you're trying to make me realize that I'm better off than I would've

He said, too little humor behind the joke.
"So," he said to the baby, "you look like you were well worth
the trouble, little one."
