The Elder Scrolls Forums _ Elder Scrolls Lore _ RP: Blue Dawn

Posted by: Loranna Mar 20 2005, 11:33 AM

Hello, and welcome to our Elder Scrolls Role Playing threads, where we adventure and socialize in the vibrant land of Tamriel.

Before we begin, we'd like to clarify a few things:

This is an 'open roleplay' and everyone is encouraged to join in at any time!

'Open' roleplay does not mean 'unorganized' or 'limitless', however. The events in this story are usually planned, and if something BIG happens, you can be certain that it is the result of much discussion between players, usually in the mIRC chat (#Loranna_RP). This is not just a bunch of disorganized individuals doing what they think would be fun for their character at the time.

So, while everyone is welcome to join in, they are NOT welcome to jump in and do big, world-changing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST. Let me be very clear about what cannot be done without permission:

1:
Any action that effects another person's character, for ill or good. Although most people realize they can't harm another person's character without permission, many don't realize that you can't HELP another character without permission, either. Many characters have flaws for a reason. Don't go healing, saving, or otherwise fixing another character without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the player involved.

2:
Any event that would drastically change things that have been done to the world, whether the change is physical (rebuilding destroyed locations), political (converting a population to a new cause), military (killing off all the badguys) or anything else. Almost every situation, good or bad, that exists in the RP was done for some reason. Don't go changing or fixing things without DISCUSSING IT FIRST with the group.

Everyone who is involved in the RP is welcome in the mIRC chat channel #Loranna_RP. If you have a plot idea then you are encouraged to go there and discuss it. If you cannot get on the channel for some reason, or if the player whos character you would affect with your plan is not there, then PM them using this board's PM function. That's what it's there for.

For information on reaching #Loranna_RP via Mirc or Chatspike, look http://www.ravensky.org/irc/.

Not following the above advice will only result in one thing: your post is likely to be completely ignored by everyone as if it did not happen. This is obvously not good for anyone, so please, discuss major events before doing them.

Remember: Secret plans and surprises are seldom fun for anyone else. Before they're revealed they're boring, because nobody knows about them, and afterwards they're just annoying, because nobody knew about them.

Thank you, and have fun!

On the shoulders of Nalion, Breton mage and currently in Ebonheart with the rest of the group, has been placed the burden of how to work and use the Eidolon without extinguishing creation itself.

HOGITHUM IS MARCH 21!

21 First Seed, the summoning date for Azura,

the due date for Sen-Yedda, Vehk and Azura's child...

Be there!

ooc summaries:

Allerleirauh was recently attacked by the Azurites commanded by Alandro Sul. Her soul was sucked out of her body, and she was on her way to becoming just another soul trapped in the Pillar of Azura when the party dispelled the soultrapping magic and Arynel went out to fetch her soul back. She still doesn't feel very good. But she learned a lot about the nature of the Pillar of Azura through being trapped in it. Right now she's in Ebonheart talking to Helseth and preparing to take the Eidolon up
Red Mountain to destroy the Pillar and prevent Azura from destroying the world as we know it.

Tris is with the group in Ebonheart. So are Doll and Mirea.

Dragon, who came to Ald Raathim to give orders briefly, is now back in Daggerfall at Solunastra guild house.

Skein made an appearance in Ebonheart to provide critical information about the paths she has seen: Nalion must work on studying tonal architecture, and the rest of the group must concentrate on taking the Eidolon to
Red Mountain. The tools to use the tones will be provided. Skein is now back at Solunastra.

Hammerfell, close to Sentinel

The sun always shined in Hammerfell, so much so that it seemed the sun shined even at night. But now the sun was gone, vanished behind dark, baleful clouds as if Nirn was falling into Oblivion itself. In this bleak setting a chilling, wind gusts over the clouded Hammerfell sky and tugs at the pieces of paper in Dur’el’s hand. Allie’s note had reached Dur’el days ago and he had lost count of the times he had read and re-read the note, taking in every word, and thought.

“Should we go to them?” Kasha says over Dur’el’s shoulder, with a look so hopeless that it seemed to answer her own question.

Dur’el’s eyes never leave the letter. “Nah, we’ll never make it in time.” Dur’el flinches as if he remembered something. “And I don’t like instant transportation.” Dur’el grabs his stomach. “It makes me queasy.”

Another gust of wind sweeps over the two lovers, as they both think silently to themselves.

Dur’el sighs, turns to Kasha, and shows his teeth in a arrogant smirk. “We’ll just have to hope those pasty skinned, sidekicks of mine can do it without me.”

Kasha groans, but she knows Dur’el is making light of the situation to make her feel better. She rubs her swollen belly and says a silent prayer for Dur’el, her child, herself, and all of Nirn.

"I don't know if we'll be using boats," Allerleirauh said. "Time for another strategy meeting."

King Helseth had a planning room, with maps and magical mirrors and all the toys a king could want.

He wasn't a bad strategist.

The group pointed and debated and came up with ideas.

The basic plan was simple: Aricyn would lead a single Imperial priest deep into Azurite territory, where he would set up a small Imperial shrine. At the right moment, the shrines in Ebonheart,
Freetown, and Ald Raathim - the only Imperial shrines left in Morrowind - would be destroyed. Then the main body of the army would use Divine Intervention scrolls to jump to the location of the shrine.

A second, smaller group would travel with the Eidolon by boat to Telasero, and use the propylon index to travel far north, to Falasmaryon. Close to Falasmaryon was Kogoruhn. And Kogoruhn's underground tunnels emerged inside the Ghostfence, to the north of
Red Mountain, which was much less inhabited.

"Is everyone clear about their instructions?" Allerleirauh said. "Let's get these plans into motion. No one sleeps from now on. Here are restore fatigue and restore health potions for all of you. May you be blessed by whatever power you hold dear. I could not choose better companions."

She embraced Aricyn - she would not be seeing him again for some time - and kissed his unshaven cheek. Then she turned to her own companions.

"Kyne watch over you, Aricyn," Loranna says, giving the white-haired Nord a smile and a hug of her own, before turning to Dagoth.

Help them, dear; your magic and your surprises will serve the army well this day, she tells Dagoth, giving him a fond embrace.

Loranna drinks down one of Allie's fatigue potions and one of her own mega healing potions, adding her stock of spare restorative and fortifying potions to the groups' supplies. She takes her place with the Eidolon group, checking her equipment one last time.

(Ebonheart:)

Aricyn thought that on the eve of such a terrifying battle, it was odd to be sitting quietly, writing a letter. He wrote to Magnilde and the army at Ald Raathim, explaining what they were to do.

After that one was signed and sealed, he wrote another. One that felt even stranger to write.

Although his brother, Cyndarius, wrote him often, this was the first time Aricyn had written a letter of his own.

It didn't talk pleasantly of the weather.

It didn't even ask Cyndarius for help. Aricyn couldn't bring himself to, in the end.

It simply explained the plan as it concerned the Imperial shrine in
Freetown.

And it said goodbye, if such sad words turned out to be necessary.

He sealed it as well, and went to find Mirea, whom Allerleirauh had placed in charge of delivering Aricyn's letters.

Nalion nodded to the group. He knew his place was with the Eidolon. He wouldn't - couldn't - leave it now that their plan was formed.
He felt the burden on his shoulders, the responsibility, but seeing this group in front of him, he knew he wasn't alone in this. He turned to the Nord who would lead the assault.
"Success, Aricyn. I don't know anyone better suited for raising the Azurites' interest than you. Shout them down."
He gave Aricyn a reassuring smile, half to himself, half to the big Nord, and a tap on the shoulder.
"Until we meet again."
Turning to everyone present.
"To all of you, my friends. I wish to thank you for all you have done and will yet do. We will met again, victorious. May all that you hold sacred give you strenght. We are not just fighting for ourselves here, but for everyone."
Nalion blinked away a tear, then moved to the Eidolon group.

Then she took the letter to the scary werewolf hunters. And the letter to the Nord woman with the huge knockers.

Then she went to the vampires and told them about the battle plan.

She found Illidan, and approached him.

"I'm not good at making speeches." he said excusingly, "I just thought I had to say something. But Aricyn is right, I better should get to work now. I've things to do still. I'll make sure people don't fight in vain."
The breton mage's expression turned serious. He walked over to his package and picked up the scrolls he had written during the last days, some had small drawings on them, lines, high and low, long and short. With those, he retreated to a silent corner, brows creased, not with worry, but with concentration and determination.

Loranna grins at Nalion, and goes about giving her well-wishes and fond embraces to the rest of her companions.

At one point, she even says to no one in particular " ... Good luck to you too Father, wherever you are; hopefully I'll get a chance to see you again - and hopefully you'll have improved from the way you were by then too."

She smiles, and goes back to making her farewells.

The vampires made haste, grabbing whatever equipment they needed. A large assortment of the troops were armed with a spear, and a long sword just incase. Illidan looked rather much the same as he prepared for battle, only now he had a weapon with him, a glass longsword. Seeing Mirea approach, he improved his posture, ready to hear what she had to say.

Illidan kept a rather plain expression as they hugged. After the meeting he had shared with Dante earlier, he had the feeling that this hug was not really from him.

All that aside, Illidan couldn't help but burst into laughter at what she said, and continued to grin widely as she walked away. The troops would be heading out soon...

Summary:

Issa has been in prison for a good bit of this RP

biggrin.gif

Posted by: Allerleirauh Mar 21 2005, 12:11 AM

Allerleirauh, as she had promised herself, returned to the royal prisons.

"You are relieved of duty," she told the guards. And they went. They had seen her with Helseth; and her expression brooked no argument. No doubt they imagined she was here to torment the prisoners for information.

She hated prisons. She had been in them too many times herself. If men must be punished, let them be publically whipped and be done with it, as would have been done in Skyrim. Men and Mer were meant to be free.

She hated torture even more.

Some of the poor souls in Helseth's prison were maimed beyond her ability to heal them; these she put out of their misery. The others she healed.

One prisoner, breathing shallowly, had obviously been in prison for some time. Allerleirauh cast a healing spell on him. It wasn't until his bruised face began to mend that she realized she knew him.

"Issa?" she said. "By all the gods! I thought you had left us, I had no idea you were imprisoned."

"Allie!" Issa gasps. "It's good to see you! Help me out of here. Would ya?"

His weak smile reveals a face that has been cut up and mangled for days without proper treatment.

"They took my stuff. I need it back. I've been having weird dreams, and I feel that I will soon need that Prophet's Edge."

Meanwhile, Prophet's Edge sat doing absolutly nothing.

Come with me, I know where they keep the prisoners' belongings. No doubt our new ally Helseth will be angry about this - but he's going to have to put up with us, as we are, or die alone."

She led Issa through the corridors to the guard room, and cast a spell to unlock the chest.

"There."

(Ebonheart:)

Aricyn walked along the rows and rows of Dunmer who stood at attention outside the castle gates. By his side, a small, unassuming Imperial man tried to keep pace. His name was Vertiu Vicici, and although Aricyn couldn't pronounce it, he assured the man that it would be remembered in history. Vicici was the Imperial Priest that was to accompany Aricyn to Fort Moonmoth.

Helseth had been true to his word; the army gathered here was formidable, its ranks covering much of the peninsula, and more men arrived continually by boat from the mainland.

Entire wagons full of scrolls trundled down the ranks, each soldier being provided a means of casting Divine Intervention.

Aricyn looked on with grim satisfaction. It was a good, disciplined army. Too bad it wouldn't be enough...

A heavyset, older Dunmer in ornate armor strode up to Aricyn, a look of disapproval on his stern face. Another equally ostentatious but subordinate officer trailed a pace behind him.

At Aricyn's side, the hackles of the grizzled old wolf rose.

"So, you're the N'wah that King Helseth says is to lead us to Red Mountain?" the portly Dunmer said, scowling. "I expected someone more... distinguished. Well, let's get one thing out of the way, shall we? I am the general of this army. It follows my orders, not the orders of some Northern pup."

Aricyn's long, frost-covered greatsword had already returned to its scabbard long before the man's jowly head thumped on the ground.

The subordinate officer literally rattled in his armor.

"I need an accurate count of the archers in this army," Aricyn said calmly to the mer.

"Y-yes, Serjo," he said, and hurried off.

"My, my," the pale-faced Vicici said, "history will certainly show that you know how to lead Dunmer, Sir."

Aricyn didn't smile.

"I'd suggest not getting killed," Allerleirauh said, very seriously. "You are wiser than I in some ways, little love. I have a blade for you, if you want it."

She offered it to him. It was the lightweight ebony blade he had practiced fighting with, in the guildhouse.

"It saps fatigue. A single blow will fell the strongest man to the ground. It may also cut off his limbs; but you see the blade is dull on one side."

Arynel ran his finger over the dull side, to see that this was indeed true.

"Thank you," the Breton said, looking up at Allerleirauh with a smile. "I see you know my heartstrings."

"So, Priest, are you ready to depart?" Aricyn asked, fitting Allerleirauh's ring on his finger.

The older man instantly began checking his gear. Yes, he had all of the proper oils, and the candles, and oh, yes, there was the new altarcloth. He also instinctively patted his chain shirt and shortsword... just in case.

"Well, I suppose as ready as I can be," he said.

"Good."

Aricyn helped the priest onto his broad back. "Now hold on tight."

Vicici was older, but he was still quite fit. He held on a bit tighter than necessary. If Aricyn noticed, he didn't mention it.

Aricyn bent, then, and gathered the huge old wolf in his arms, and turned northwards.

For a moment, they made quite a comical picture. Then Aricyn opened his mouth and shouted, and they were simply gone.

Ald Raathim: Tris

Tris and Ciel had spent last night on the boat going back to Ald Raathim.

Tris had explained everything to Casts-the-Bones, the Argonian stablemaster. The stablemaster had moaned and hissed and refused to allow his parraptons to be taken into such evident danger.

"It's not up to you," Tris said. "It's up to her."

The queen spread her wings, to reveal several newly hatched parraptons. She had obviously been working overtime to produce them. Then she rose into the air. It was the first time they had ever seen her move. She had torn off her heavy, egg-laying abdomen. Now she was a sleek, elegant, deadly flying machine.

All of the parraptons came forward except one. A young queen.

The Argonian listened to her, then bowed his head in a gesture of deep respect.

"The parraptons are going," Casts-the-Bones said. "And she is coming with us."

Nalion rose from his seat in the corner. His papers and drawings filled nearly all the pages he had available right now, proof of a night devoid of sleep. The Breton mage wearily looked around and moved over to the table where Allerleirauh had left the potions for the group to use. He chose a restore fatigue potion and downed it.
He felt refreshed almost instantly, like standing under a waterfall in the blazing sunlight. Nalion walked out onto the battlements of Ebonheart just to see Aricyn departing with the cleric.
"It's begun now." The mage breathed deeply, then he walked back inside to gather his companions. The time to act has finally come.

"Let's board the ship to Telasero! Let us get this done. Time doesn't wait for us."

"Right," Allerleirauh said.

The Eidolon had already been loaded on the ship. She had the Flamekiss.

Eidolon Party

Loranna nods to Nalion, having potioned herself up to make herself stronger, faster, and more agile, as well as protected with healing and magic-restoring power.

"Right," she says, following Nalion to the waiting ship; she gives a grim smile as she boards.

Army

Dagoth waits with forced patience for the signal to use the intervention spell; mentally, he can hear the grumbling of the various hermit-mages and rogue Telvanni that he had convinced - or brow-beat - into aiding their cause.

"Good luck, Loranna," he mutters under his breath, shifting in his robes. He flexes his bony hands, anticipating the spells he will soon hurl at the hated foe.

Arynel said nothing, choosing to save his words for a more appropraite time. The Breton boarded a boat.

Posted by: Tricrux Mar 21 2005, 06:59 AM

Marein boarded the boat anxiously.

Shai stood with a contingent of Dunmer, ready to cast intervention and arrive at Red Mountain.

Celeste kept her hand on her hilt, standing at the heart of the Azurite army, ready to fight for her God.

The winds were good, and the rowers skilled.

The boat bearing the Eidolon passed the ruined city of Vivec, where the Ministry of Truth no longer hung in the sky. They passed between Mzahnch, where demons walked, and the pit which had once been Ald Sotha before it was swallowed by Sheogorath's storm.

The last time they had seen the ancient Velothi fortress of Telasero, they had been fleeing hordes of Winged Twilights, bloodied and exhausted. Now the place was still and empty. The Azurites had fallen back nearer to home.

"I wish I could consider this a good omen," Allerleirauh said.

Several large Dunmer carried the Eidolon, with the help of feather potions. They guided it into the propylon chamber; Allerleirauh used the propylon index to take them to Falasmaryon.

Falasmaryon was likewise empty.

They stepped outside. Here, in the north of Vvardenfell, the foyada was overcast, chill and cold, nothing like the pleasant weather they had left behind moments ago. Through the haze, they could see Falasmaryon's twin fortress: Kogoruhn.

Nalion followed the group outside. His gaze focused on lost Kogoruhn, ancient Dunmer stronghold, former Sixth House base now their only chance to secretly cross the Ghostfence.
The Breton mage instinctively grabbed the shaft of his staff firmer. He gazed south, into hostile territory, up at Red Mountain.

"Be careful out there, don't take unnecessary risks. We are here to pass through Kogoruhn, not liberate it or anything. But be prepared. This entrance to Red Mountain might not be unguarded."

Posted by: Aki Mar 21 2005, 07:20 AM

Kogoruhn looked as if it hadn't ben used in years. Piles of Ash covered it, as if the land itself had tried to bury the taint of the Sixth House. Reichi placed his Chitin helm firmly on his head. "Indeed, we should avoid as many battles as possible. But i doubt much of Lost kogoruhn still houses Sixth house cultists after the Nerevarine went through it..." he said.

Aricyn's feet hit dirt, and the priest rolled off of his back in a cloud of dust.

"I told you to hold on," Aricyn said, carefully setting the old wolf on his feet.

"Yes, well... That was quite a ride." Vicici looked around at the stunted trees and black hills. "Where are we?"

"A bit south of Fort Moonmoth. You're heavier than I expected. Let's get over those hills... And I don't think I have to tell you to keep your head down."

"Indeed," said Vicici.

The old wolf trotted ahead, sniffing out any trouble.

The walls of the Imperial fort were unmanned, and no banners flew from it's walls.

"I don't see any guards," said Aricyn, "Good. You stay behind me, and we'll make this quick. Where in the fort is the shrine?"

"Well," Vicici said, scratching his head, "I'm not absolutely certain, having never been there, myself. I was told that it was just off of the main hall, in the keep."

"Lovely," Aricyn said dryly. "Just stay behind me."

With that, he was off. The priest struggled to keep up, but the old wolf was always right by his side, watching over the indespensible priest.

Moments later Aricyn shouldered the oak door of the keep open and looked in on the musty wreck of the keep. A battle had been fought here, and the defenders had obviously lost.

Past the great hall was another, strewn with debris, but no bodies. There wasn't a body anywhere to be seen.

The Shrine, near the center of the keep, had been carefully defiled. The banners were torn and stained, the altar was cracked and heaped with refuse, and the golden icons and candlesticks were long gone.

"Oh, dear," Vicici said quietly. "What monsters. What monsters."

He rolled up his sleeves and set immediately to work.

Aricyn watched the door.

From within the Void, Mirea watched the priest work.

Mirea could feel a malign presence watching her, a presence that made her hair stand on end. Something smelled bad.

One of the mages Dagoth had recruited muttered into his beard "About bloody time; I could have flown there and back again by now ..."

Save it Vindius, Dagoth warned, raising his hands to cast Divine Intervention. Save the bile for the Azurites.

(Ald Raathim:)

Magnilde nodded to the strange little Bosmer, and raised her lance. Beneath her, furry Stian stamped with barely controlled eagerness for battle.

She lowered her spear, and one by one, the army of Ald Raathim disappeared.

(Ebonheart:)

A trumpet blew from the castle's highest tower.
"Ready scrolls!" shouted hundreds of voices at once. "Cast!"
In one well-orchestrated flash, the Ebonheart peninsula was abandoned.

(Freetown:)

Cyndarius smiled at Mirea and thanked her, giving her a stick of Bosmer-approved candy to enjoy on the way home.

"Friggin' crazy, if you ask me," Merey said, helping Cyndarius into his golden breastplate.

Cyndarius smiled at him. "Do you want a piece of candy, too?"

"Bugger you, Sir," he said, unable to stifle a laugh.

Outside the window, the 103rd Legion of the Emperor stood ready for battle.

The dreadful main building rose up to their left, while in front of them loomed a blackened, temple-like building. To the right were two other, somewhat smaller, domed halls.
The company couldn't help but feel a sensation of tension and dread. The former Sixth House stronghold covered in ash was still capable of instilling fear..

Kogoruhn:

Not even the door could keep the ash of Red Mountain out of the hall. There are piles of ash settled in the corners and nooks of the ancient keep. The tromp of hundreds of feet have left their mark in the dust but the fortress is strangely quiet, the only noise besides the blowing of the wind is that of a lit brazier a small way down the hall.

Other than the fire there are no light sources. A gentle heat, almost pleasant emanates from the depths beneath the floor.

A quick search reveals that the entire floor is devoid of life.

"What in Azura's name is that?" said a blue-eyed mer as he wandered out of the Cornerclub. The guard to whom he spoke turned to look.

Off in the direction of the fort, flashes of light could be seen, like fireworks, one after another by the thousands. They seemed to be getting closer.

Moments later, the streets of Balmora were filled with light, and an army stood where before there had been nothing.

The intoxicated mer screamed.

Flickering light leaked into the corridor from underneath a curtain that had been erected to cover the side doorway. The hall extended further into complete darkness, empty as revealed by enhanced vision. The floor fell away on either side, a narrow bridge.

Name: Yasur Aranakan
Age: 25
Race: Dunmer
Appearance: Looks mostly like a typical Dunmer, except for his emerald green eyes which are a result of an accident in his fathers tower.

Born as the son of a Telvanni High Councilor, Yasur was always being trained in the arts of conjuration, destruction, and mysticism by his father, even from an early age. Despite his Telvan heritage, he constantly felt drawn to the art of the long sword, and often sneaked off to watch the Legionaires train in Wolverine Hall, sometimes even training with them.

On Yasur's 16th birthday, his father called him into his research chambers. His father announced that he had managed to capture the souls of a golden saint and a dremora lord, and infused them with an ebony sword. He told Yasur that he knew that he had been training with the legionairres, and he had enchanted this sword as a gift to him. To test the blade, his father summoned a winged twilight. Upon contact, the conflicting souls within the blade caused it to explode, creating a blast that destroyed the chamber, and killed his father. Yasur managed to survive, but he was forever changed. Many blamed him for his father's death, including his mother, so Yasur exiled himself to the northen reaches of Skyrim, vowing never to return.

But return he did! Yasur joined Loranna and the others on a journey across the frozen lands of Skyrim as a guard. As payment, he had received 2 rings, which he enchanted. One allowed him to blend in perfectly, and the other greatly boosted his intelligence.

During the trip, he used more magicka than he had in him on a healing spell, and ended up draining his very life-force, causing him to lose a great deal of fatigue everytime his Magicka is drained. In a tremendous battle with the Order of the Kights of the Rose, he discovered he had an ability akin to the Adrenaline Rush of the Redguards, but was almost killed when he used it.

After that he spent some time wondering the ashlands of Morrowind. For several days, he has felt drawn to Kogoruhn, but today the tug has become a pull, one that seems draw his very soul to the dreaded stronghold.

.:The Present:.

Yasur aproached the ash and dust covered Kogoruhn.

Hmm, I can make out footprints, and they look fresh. The door is open, too. Better put my ring on if I don't want to be spotted.

Yasur vanished as he slipped the ring on. He walkied through the doors and headed towards the Hall of Maki.

I can hear voices. I just hope they're friendly ones.

Yasur crept silently into the hall, and upon seeing the group, removed his ring, and lowered his hood.

"Hello everyone, remember me?"

(Fort Moonmoth:)

"Not the most organized way to move an army. This is a mess," Aricyn said to Magnilde.

"Chief!" a young Nord rode up to Aricyn on Kynidius. "Your horse, my Lord." The man dismounted and drew a long spear from the saddle. "I'll be fine on foot, my Lord, but I thought you'd need him."

"My thanks to you, Helgi Hagslayer," Aricyn said, making the young man grin.

"Now..." said Aricyn, but his words stopped short. A man was riding up to him, his golden armor shining brightly, even in the moonlight. His horse was huge and heavy, like a draft horse.

It had, in fact, once been a draft horse.

"Hello, Brother," Cyndarius said, smiling as usual.

"I knew you'd come," Aricyn said, happiness threatening to overwhelm his snowy face.

"What if I've come to stop you from using the Eidolon?" Cyndarius said, his smile fading.

"Then that is what will be," said Aricyn. "Either way, Brother, the army is yours to command."

Cyndarius raised his golden eyebrows. "Well, then, let's teach these Azurites the meaning of fear!"

"You, dear Lady, get those sturdy ponies of yours into the hills on either side of the foyada!"

"Sir Ciel! Take those parraptons forward and bring back news of the enemy!"

Cyndarius's voice was far from as loud as his brother's, but somehow it carried where it was needed.

"Legionnaires, we will lead the way! Armies of Morrowind, follow, archers first!"

"You, there, Sir! Yes you, the dead one. Kindly take your clans through Balmora, and then up parallel to the foyada. Insure we are not flanked. Thank you."

"Mages! To the front!"

The army moved and surged like tide, but perfectly orchestrated, like a well-known country dance.

"Chief..." Magnilde said, bringing forward the battle standard of Ald Raathim.

Aricyn smiled, reached up, and uncovered the standard. The golden helm shone like the sun.

Kogoruhn:

Flickering light leaked into the corridor from underneath a curtain that had been erected to cover the side doorway.  The hall extended further into complete darkness, empty as revealed by enhanced vision.  The floor fell away on either side, a narrow bridge.

From the bridge chamber a soft clicking of a hard material against stone could be heard, repeatedly, over and over again as if there were many sources of the noise.

QUOTE(sjvan0 @ Mar 21 2005, 01:26 AM)

*

Allerleirauh set her finger to her lips and motioned the group back through the door they had just entered. In the Hall of Phiso they cast spells of chameleoline and invisibility on themselves.

"Yasur, I don't know why you've joined us now, but may the gods be with you. Let's go."

The party reentered the Hall of Maki and began to move stealthily through it, towards the next exit.

Loranna had just been starting to cast chameleon magic on the party when Yasur showed up. She spins, her hands raised to drink the health of this new ...

" ... I don't believe it ..." Loranna hisses quietly. "You! How ... oh never mind; hello again dear and welcome, as Allie said. Now, be stealthy ..."

Loranna finishes casting for the party and rubs Jazbet's ring, and sets her levitation bracelet on so she makes no noise.

If it's stealth they want, then it's stealth they'll get. Yasur slipped his ring back on and followed the others silently thanks to the Khajiit suit he bought recently.

Dante gave a quick nod to Yasur, before he vanished. He walked amongst the group, trying his hardest not to bump into anyone, after all, it's a hard thing to do when you can't see the person. Unfortunately, even when invisible, Dante wasn't the best at stealth. Every other step he took resulted in either a small cracking noise, or a muffled cough.

Kogoruhn:

From the bridge they could see the ghastly sight below. Great slabs of stone, set with shackles, covered in a dark black substance lined the floor below. A large channel had been freshly carved into the stone of the floor, it was likewise adorned in black.

The room’s perimeter was lined with wooden shelves and tables. Innumerable devices, some familiar and some not so familiar, along with several gems and crystals lined them.

The source of the noise was readily apparent. This was a place of the dead, they were numerous. Skeletal forms of varying degrees of decay and preservation moved about at tasks. Several surrounded a still occupied slab, they wielded butcher’s implements and were quite busy, obvious to the eye because of their gore splattered bones. A thin stream of red liquid ran over the layer of black.

They, for the moment, took no notice of the invisible intruders.

Having visited plenty of Necromancer laboratories as a child, Yasur was used to seeing gore, and he continued to make his way across the bridge with the grace of a cat.

Seeing the atrocities down below, hurt Nalion deeply. One more reason to put an end to this. The Breton frowned and anger rose in him. He quickly subdued it though, he would need to retain a cool head in the following hours.
When they were safely and a some good distance away from the chamber, he lifted his invisibility. Loosing someone due to invivibility wouldn't be a good idea right now.
"Now, where to head next?" he whispered.

"Sir Ciel! Take those parraptons forward and bring back news of the enemy!"

Ciel's parrapton unit zoomed forward.

Near Fort Moonmoth was a Dwemer ruin, and a Dwemer bridge.

The foyada beneath the bridge was crowded with Azurites; atop the bridge, fully armored men paced. Tris felt his throat tighten. He had seen one of those 'armored men' before. They weren't men. They were Daedra.

A Dwemer crossbow bolt, thick around as a man's leg, shot from the ruin, piercing one of the parraptons. It and its rider plunged to the rocky foyada below, where the unfortunate Dunmer was ripped apart by the waiting Azurites.

Slow and leisurely, the Daedra atop the bridge turned and launched fireballs at the parrapton riders.

Then there was a noise like nothing you could imagine - a strange vibrating buzzing hum that made you want to poke your eardrums out with a stick. It was the cry of a Winged Twilight, thousands of times over, blending into a single cry.

The Twilights boiled up from beneath the bridge as the Azurites summoned them.

The parrapton riders turned and fled towards the army at Fort Moonmoth, followed by a black cloud of Winged Twilights, as thick as mosquitoes.

Dagoth had known fear in recent times - fear of losing himself to his darkness, fear of losing Loranna, fear of Jazbet taking Loranna away from him.

Many of the mortals he now stood with trembled in fear, but he himself did not. The approaching hordes were, for him, not a source of fear, but rather a chance to let his anger at the Daedra Prince that had so hurt the ones he cared for come forth.

Raising his hands, he intones dark magics, being briefly enveloped in a green glow. His trademark flesh-dissolving spell flashes out to strike at the highest Twilights, so that their putrifying bodies may fall and strike their own sisters. He feels some of his magic rebound upon him but pays it no heed; his spell absorption took care of such matters and besides - where was his flesh to melt?

"Strike, my companions," he tells his fellow mages; other bolts of eldrich power fire forth into the cloud of Twilights.

In the dark, it was hard to see the cloud of daedra. They blotted out the clouds, and the moon, and the stars, but mostly one could only hear them... screaming.

"Bows ready!" shouted Cyndarius, and the answering clatter of chitin and wood was stunning.

A moment later, he mouthed the word 'fire', but it was lost in the brain-numbing noise of the enemy.

Still, the bowmen didn't have to be told.

The red stream led further into the depths. Tunnels that had once been lined with sediment were now lined with the slippery black-brown residue of blood. The path continued until the trickle of fresh blood dripped into the slow moving, murky mix that flowed through the waterway.

The sewer would have been unlit but for the large band of Azurites bearing torches that stood opposite across the stream. They were discussing the gathering of more ‘slaves’. The obvious head of the band was covered in fresh ash, a recent arrival. A pair of resin goggles were lifted above his blue eyes which gazed up the tunnel leading back to the grisly scene. A slender glass long blade hung at his side along with several large pouches. Behind him a figure covered in chitin armor stood motionless.

“… Khajiiti, I want as many as you can find-” he suddenly cutoff as he stared at the floor at the adventure’s feet. It was covered in fresh smears of blood. Blood tracked on their boots.

“Intruders!” the shout echoed through the narrow passages. The leader already had a handful of a substance he had drawn from one of the pouches on his belt. He chanted while he cast it through the air and it became a cloud. Ash. Tormented howls filled the air as it became ‘alive’ with vague forms.

Road to Balmora-

"Hm, Balmora's just up ahead..." Volrina stated, twirling her enchanted longsword around, grinning as she did so.

"Yeah, I figured that...y'know, with the whole archway being just up that road and all..." Janis replied, in a tone that sounded a little too darn serious.

Volrina growled, before haulting the marching troops. Although they were filed into ranks, they still seemed quite unorganised. "Spearmen at the front..." She snarled, whilst those vampires headed to the front of the pack, she spoke again. "Anyone with a bow, behind them."

Once the troops were in their new formation, they continued their march. Volrina, Janis and Illidan no longer leading them. They approached the large archway, where upon Volrina halted them again. "Shields up, spears down!" The loud clatter of ebony, silver and daedric could be heard from outside the city walls. This no doubt attracted the attention of guards.

Volrina let out a loud grunt and the troops began marching forward inside the town, as guards ran to meet them, archers would often kill all of them before they reached their goal.

The trained skill of the Breton mage renewed the physical barrier that protected him instead of armour. Nalion moved to the side of the group to have a better aim, but still took care not to advance to a position where he wasn't properly covered.

Dagoth

Bows and spells flew into the mass of Twilights; Dagoth frowns mentally, noting that the monsters kept coming.

"Very well; my winged friends, let me show you one of MY friends," he declares, raising his hands and calling out an arcane chant. Moments later, the sky is rent with the sound of a hideous syllibant laugh, as above the army a large, skeletal form appears ...

The Skeleton Dragon laughs its approval at being allowed a chance to rend and tear, and eagerly swoops to meet the Twilights, breathing dark flames that wither and eneverate all they touch.

Loranna

Loranna whispers "Give me your strength," as she casts magic on those Azurites still standing. She shivers slightly as she draws their strength and agility out of them, feeling their power enrich herself.

Feeding some of her own mystic strength into the energy she takes from the Azurites, Loranna radiates strength and agility-enhancing power to her companions, to give them even more of an edge against weakened enemies.

Balmora-

The vampires were winning, but it didn't take long for the Azurites to swarm them. They were literally jumping from rooftops to get some of the action. It was also this occurence which caused the vampires to lose their thoughts on a tactical advance.

Many threw down their shields and just leapt into a group of Azurites, draining them of life as they would fall. Archers were by far the worst, taking their minds off the main objective and aiming at targets which were in no way threatening at that time.

But, as many of the vampires have been saying, "The only good Azurite is a dead Azurite!" who could blame them?

The current outbreak also caused many of the other vampires to swarm into the town, crashing against the Azurite's, Illidan was dragged along with them, unfortunately. Which wasn't that much of a big deal, as there wasn't a single vampire who wasn't killing something, or about to be killed.

"I'm no good at this." Illidan muttered, bringing his sword down on an Azurite's skull, almost slipping on the blood soaked pavement. He turned, jumped, and drove the heel of his chitin boot into an Azurite's chest, sending the unfortunate soul crashing into the now bloody, Odai.

The mage heard Loranna's shout over the turmoil of the battle and turned towards the undead trying to break through the doorway.
"Everyone, move away from that door! NOW!"
He motioned his companions to haste, then turned once more towards the door. Nalion closed his eyes and folded his arms in front of him. A whispered word and Nalion was engulfed in a blazing light. The undead seemed to blink with surprise, but didn't move further, hindered in their steps by the mages trun undead spell. It wouldn't hold long, the spell was too weak, but it gave Nalion the time to cast another spell.

"You cannot pass!" he whispered, then a ball of flame sprang forth from his hands, not targeted at the undead, but at the tunnel over them. Stones can be heard cracking and the ceiling began to show the first weaknesses in its structure, then it came crashing down, sealing the doorway.
Nalion faltered slightly from the effort, and tried to steady himself.

Yasur leapt out of the way of the falling rubble, and watched as it filled the doorway. For several seconds he listened to the cries of battle as his Atronachs battled the fiends behind the rock wall. When the sounds died, Yasur turned back to the party. He passed a restore Fatigue & Magick potion to Nalion.

"Here, I find it quite useful." Yasur said.

Lost Kogoruhn, Hall of Maki
The absorption spells from Nalion hit their targets, draining them of their health. Tiny threads of drained life seemed to return to Nalion and refilled his health. He used what spells were available to him, shooting balls of fire and lightning. The light given off by his spells illuminated his face. The enemies who suffered from his barrage fell into the ash.
The mage heard Loranna's shout over the turmoil of the battle and turned towards the undead trying to break through the doorway.

Loranna

Loranna moves to Nalion's side, casting Restore Fatigue on him until it takes; the extra magicka probably wouldn't hurt Nalion right now either.

"Well cast, dear," she says, smiling before turning to add "Now my blue eyed dear, your life ..."

As Loranna casts an Abosrb Health spell to help take out the Azurites, she says "Let's get moving."

(Foyada Mamaea:)

"That friggin' bridge might as well be a wall!" shouted Merey over the carnage. Fireballs and arrows rained down on them from above, and uncountable Azurite soldiers took shelter under it.

The army was already starting to run short on arrows.

Above, the undead dragon had tried to sweep the enemy from the bridge, but had been driven back by magic.

"At this rate, we'll take until Midyear to get to the Ghostgate!" shouted Aricyn, cleaving through a Twilight that was attempting to behead Kynidius.

"The bridge is yours, Brother," Cyndarius shouted back, his own short sword flying. "Fall back!" he shouted to the front ranks.

Aricyn rode ahead of the lines, into the midst of the enemy. Beside him, an arrow in his shoulder, the old wolf lept upon an Azurite's throat.

Seeing him ride out, a group of red-armored Daedra broke into a run, charging him.

Aricyn opened his mouth, and for a moment everything seemed soundless.

Then the hordes before him were thrown back. The ground rippled like waves on the ocean. The bridge cracked.

With a mighty moan, the great monument to Dwemer engineering buckled, turned, and collapsed. Beneath it, men and daedra were crushed like insects, while those that were on it plummeted to their doom, crushing even more of their compatriots.

The way before them was clear, for the moment.

"FORWARD!" shouted Cyndarius.

Red Mountain: Pillar of Azura

The Pillar of Azura was complete now.

Seen from above, it was shaped like a star. It rose, a gleaming blue column, from the lava of Red Mountain. The top pierced through to the sky above. When Dawn's light struck it, it would be perfected.

Blue robed virgins, male and female, filled the chamber.

At the center of the chamber stood the simulacrum. Those who had known Loranna would have been shocked at its demeanor. It stood with its arms cradling its gravid belly, head demurely bowed, and an expression of long-suffering resignation on its seemingly emotionless metal face.

"Praise to Azura," the virgins chanted. "Praise to Sen-Yedda. Praise to the Dawn, and Praise to the Dusk. Praise to the Prince of Moonshadow."

Twelve dancers moved on the floor of the chamber, in a serpentine pattern. Though the season was that of the Lord, Sen-Yedda would be born under a different sign - that of the serpent, most blessed and most cursed.

Dagoth

Dagoth's mage compatriots, though slightly weary from their exertions, use magic to strengthen the army's forces as they surge forward.

Dagoth takes a moment to cast restorative magic to his draconic friend, then eyes the fallen Azurites who remain on top of the rubble with an appraising eye ...

Hmm ... we could use more shock troops, and surely Azurites would fear to see their own fighting against them, he thinks, raising his hands to cast a spell ...

... Though, Loranna and the others would not approve, he reflects, pausing for a moment.

.... No; now is not the time to be foolishly sentimental, he tells himself. We must use everything we have to fight Azura, lest she destroy us all. Let her see the bodies of her own fallen rail against her; perhaps this will shock some of those Azurites to their senses ...

Dagoth glows with green-black light, as he intones "Let our fallen enemies become our new allies; fear not, friends of Aricyn, for the slain now fight for us!"

Slowly, dead Azurites rise and take up whatever weapons are at hand, as Dagoth commands "Forward! Fall upon your former bretheren and show them the wrath of those who defy your former lord!"

Dragon:

Enough.

Dragon, master swordsman, trainer of swordsman at Solunastra, the teacher of Allerleirauh, stood bleeding from a dozen wounds. Half his men were gone, the rest fled. Time to try this again a different way.

He summoned his will, to go back to the beginning.

The red armored Daedra grinned at him.

"I don't understand," Dragon said.

The Daedra slashed at him, as he leaped backwards. It was quick. The Daedra's sword tore through his armor as if it were tearing cloth.

"What are you?" Dragon cried, his voice lost beneath the humming cries of the Winged Twilights.

"In life I was called Matharlas," the Daedra said. The Daedra's deep voice had no trouble being heard over the cries of battle. "I was a wicked man in my life, and in my death I serve Azura in Hell. All that matters to you, though is this: while I lived, the blood of Tiber Septim ran in my veins."

Dragon felt his own blood grow cold. This, then, was the way it would be. He could not alter this history.

The Daedra Matharlas rushed forward, sword outstretched.

Balmora-

The battle was long and arduous, although who would be the victor was still uncertain, vampires were dropping like flies. Mostly because they had forgotten about their potions in the heat of battle. Infact, it took some careful reminding from Volrina and others to get the point across.

"C'mon! is that all you got?!" Volrina shouted, as two more Azurites fell from her blade. She spotted another, oddly weaker looking Azurite and grabbed him by his hair. She preceded to hastily feed on the Azurite before discarding the corpse, into the river.

Janis wasn't doing too bad himself, either. He was positioned on a rooftop, which was quite handy as the door leading to the roof only allowed one person at a time to pass through. Making his job so much easier.

Illidan however, remained at the heart of the battle. Awkwardly killing Azurites, one after the other. And he was afraid he might use up his potions too fast, so he refrained from using them too hastily.

Minutes passed, minutes which seemed like weeks, and the Azurite army was beginning to wane. So much that a large group of vampires had cornered in a much smaller group of Azurites, and the others were in no position to help out. Unfortunately for them, they're fun would be cut short...by a rather nasty looking robed Azurite, standing casually on the centre bridge.

He held out a hand, and shot a fireball, a very large fireball, which incinerated the group of vampires instanty. They ran, screaming and hurt, clawing desperately to find their potions. Janis and Volrina took note of this and went to their own bridges, on either side of the centre one.

They lept, an easy distance to make considering that they were vampires. The robed Azurite simply smirked, parried their strikes with an ebony staff and sent the two into the river for their troubles.

The last of the ghost turned to ashes and the the remaining enemies were quickly vanquished by the company. The Dunmer carrying the Eidolon moved out of their shelter behind some rocks. They had hidden there during the battle.
In front of the company were stairs leading down and bending right towards another door. The heavy wooden door opened into a sewer-like canal, clearly the bottom level of Kogoruhn. The air was damp, but after the ash in the upper levels, the moisture felt refreshing.
The group spread out a bit to let the Eidolon pass through, then shut the door.

The Foyada type place...

The WHOT hadn't fared to badly into the battle, their armor was meant for taking the blows of Werewolves, and even a Werebear's claws. It was heavy as hell, but it kepy most of the soldiers from dieing. A few did die because of the Twilight's annoying habbit of grabbing people and swooping off with them before dropping them to their doom.

Tohe and Eya, however, were unharmed except the ocaisonal scratch. The Foyada had ALOT of stuff to jump onto and off of, the Werewolves had been able to use their jumping abilities to move about the battlefeild easily.

The shockball slammed into the undead wall with such force that the magick passed straight through it, leaving a gaping hole in all those it hit. He dodged a few magick balls, and let his atronachs do the fighting. He followed Allerleirauh through the path she had created.

"DAGOTH! You overconfident fool!" Vidius snarls, hastily casting a sheild spell to protect his head - and anyone who happened to be nearby.

Dagoth feels a flash of anger - and worry; few things could dispose of his skeletal dragon so quickly. It would take some time before he could call upon the dragon again - time the army would not have, if this new threat fell into the ranks.

"Arrogant Daedra, you shall pay for slaying him!" Dagoth roars, pointing to the sickening monstrosity in clear challenge. Dagoth bends magic to infuse his own bones with strength and endurance far beyond any mortal frame and green fire dances on his hands.

Shut up Vidius and help the army while I keep this thing busy! Dagoth snaps back. And if you get a chance, throw something at it yourself. And keep the zombies up and active! I'm going to be distracted ...

Balmora-

Volrina's head emerged from the water, covered in watered down blood she now looked demonic in a way. Something that would keep a small child awake on cold, stormy nights. She hoisted herself back onto the bridge and dueled with the sorcerer, almost as if they were fencing.

Janis also hoisted himself onto the bridge, and helped Volrina overcome the sorcerer. With the sorcerer occupied, it made the vampire's task much easier, as the Azurite's morale was quite obviously beginning to become affected. Many fled up the large stairs, towards the council manors. Vampires gave chase.

Illidan went with the remaining vampires, yet again stumbling and slipping about on the bloody floor. As the vampires reached the top of the stairs, they spread out, in little hunting packs to search the remainer of the city. Illidan felt a great relaxation fall over himself. This battle was won...almost, atleast.

"HA-HA!" Shouted the blood soaked Volrina, casting the sorcerer's corpse into the Odai, along with so many others. "We have nearly won!"

Volrina and Janis cheered, before rounding a corner to find a ridiciously large amount of Azurites waiting for them.

"Damn it..."

Lost Kogoruhn, Nabith Waterway
Nalion followed after the fighters, recasting his sanctuary aura. I wasn't good fighting on the slippery canal rims, so he chose to levitate instead. He floated to a corner where a canal led deeper into the dungeon, away from the main tunnel. He took a short glance around the corner and saw two necromancers standing behind their summoned bonewalkers. Wooden barrels added to the defense. The necromancers perceived him and fired spells targeted at the mages face.
Nalion quickly withdew his head. Another glance and some whispered spells later, and painful shrieks roared through the hall. As Nalion checked the result of his spells, he grunted satisfied.
His fireball wasn't targeted at the necromancers, but at the barrels. Splinters of sharp wood and molten metal had penetrated the necromancers light clothing, they were nothing but a torn heap of corpses. The bonewalkers that had begun moving towards him vanished in a flash.

The charge cleared deep into the caves beyond the waterway. The air was virtually burning with the ambient, intense heat. Erie red glows played on the walls as the Dawnbeast charged through chamber after chamber. At last they came to a great cavern, they must have been close to an opening for the floor was completely covered in ash.

The undead piled into the chamber, their masters hung back. No living being dared approach lest they join the already numerous dead.

The swirling mess of decayed limbs and body parts suddenly came to a halt. Out of the ash rose several white bleached chains, carved of actual bones. They leapt together forming a cage that covered all sides as well as above and beneath. The necromancers who had prudently hung in the rear began an ominous chant and a blue aura filled the gaps between the grisly chains.

Then everything ceased. The silence held sway as the dead retreated and a group of mer advanced.

Alandro Sul stared at the captives, a smile lit on his face.

Then everything ceased.  The silence held sway as the dead retreated and a group of mer advanced.

Alandro Sul stared at the captives, a smile lit on his face.

Allerleirauh unleashed the power of her ring towards Alandro Sul, but the magic was stopped by the Ghost shell.

Then she tried to escape by jumping into the Void.

She couldn't. She whispered a string of power, but they were only letters spoken in Daedric. They had no power here.

Alandro Sul did not have the knowledge to create such a trap.

But Solin did, and it was Solin-Sul she faced now.

Loranna

Loranna had raised her hands to cast a spell when Allie made her move, but seeing Allie stymied brings Loranna up short.

A defiant grimace twists Loranna's lips, but the ash-skinned Nord realizes what Allie has just found out; they were, for the moment, trapped, at Solin-Sul's mercy.

Slowly, Loranna lowers her hands, her eyes glaring at the mer outside the cage.

Kogoruhn:

Nalions instinctive fireball shot at the barrier was absorbed by the barrier. Cold fear grabbed his heart, he knew what that meant. At least they still held Eidolon and the Flamekiss at the moment. His gaze moved from Allerleirauh to the artifact and back. He wasn't sure what to do. If Allerleirauhs means failed, what could he do?

Dagoth

For long moments, lich and seething mass of wings and tentacles swoop and dive at one another in mid air, Dagoth's spells firing off and the demon's tentacles lashing out.

Twice, Dagoth found himself in a bone-crushing grip, his mind assailed by images of a gigantic Loranna, face as perfect and uncaring as marble and eyes glowing azure, crushing him in his hand ...

Stay out of my MIND! Dagoth roared, banishing the nightmare he and Loranna had shared back in Stornhold, and twice he had broken free, to blast once more at the demon with his storngest spells ...

Five minutes of this dueling, and Dagoth admitted to himself, he wasn't getting anywhere; the demon was stronger than the magic he could bring to bear.

... Only one way to stop this, then, he thought to himself, preparing. This is going to hurt ...

The demon caught him a third time, and once again Dagoth's mind was assaulted, but this time he ignored it, delving deep into his being. He was a lich, magic incarnate; his physical form was merely a shell to direct his power, and now he tapped the wells of magicka like he seldom did ...

"Goodbye monster," Dagoth muttered, right before his power overwhelmed him and ...

Dagoth's body literally glows white, and there is a scream, a massive burst of light and thunder ... and then, there is nothing in the sky. Demon and lich were both consumed ...

Elsewhere, in Dagoth's sanctuary, mist begins to congeal on a throne of bone ...

Red Mountain:

It was Dawn.

Dawn. 21 First Seed. Hogithum.

Light spread out from Azura's Pillar, a pulsing light.

A veiled serpent of not-stars shone in the dim heavens.

Within what had been the Heart chamber, an infant cried.

As the blue light of the pillar touched them, the wounds of all who had been slain in battle closed. They rose to their feet again.

They had slate colored eyes. And all, regardless of what side they had been fighting for before they died, fought for Azura now.

PRAISE SEN-YEDDA! SHE IS BORN!

Posted by: Tricrux Mar 21 2005, 09:23 PM

With emotions crackling and conflicting, with frustration, desperation, anger, horror, sorrow...and hope...Marein and Shai fought for all men and mer living on Nirn from different fronts of Red Mountain.

Kogoruhn: Marein

Marein focused his energy and concentration on the searingly hot sapphire, ready to summon a lightning bolt forth from it with such power that it would likely knock him unconscious, maybe even kill him. He didn’t care. What was the alternative? Alandro Sul as Solin had proven already what he could do to the greatest, most untouchable of them all, the Void Rangers Allerleirauh and Arynel. Marein’s plan was the only alternative.

As he looked closer at Sul he realized that underneath that monster was still Solin. Solin who had accompanied Loranna through thick and thin, Solin who had saved them all more than once. Solin. Solin...Marein would never forgive Azura if Solin did not come out of this alive. He had been a good mer.

Slowly he lifted his foot, brought it around his body, and tapped Loranna in the back of the leg to catch her attention, then Allerleirauh. The two people who were near enough to him, with the power to do what he needed them to do.

“I’m going to need one hell of a shock resistance spell very soon,” he muttered. “Blanket coverage. At least fifteen second duration, between the two of you.”

And he slowly lifted his hand up under his cowl and touched the gem beneath...

Fort Moonmoth: Shai

Shai fought. She fought Azurites, she fought Twilights, she fought anything that dared come into her path. But they just kept coming. All around her, vampires, Nords, Werebeast Hunters, and Dunmer fell, some taking as many as twenty Azurites down with them - but it wasn’t enough.

A shriek, piercing air and earth. Shai whirled around to see a Winged Twilight only feet away. It raised up to slash, and Shai made her move.

Diving to the left, she snatched the shortsword of one of her downed comrades and curled up, rolled in that direction. Then she stopped short. Confused, the Twilight moved closer, wondering if its prey were alive or dead. Unsatisfied, it reared back in order to make a final, killing, brutal slash.

Shai sprang out of her curl and leapt high into the air, twisting out of the way of the Twilight and driving the blade into its eye, then pulling it back out almost immediately to embed it in the Twilight’s owner.

The ground she stood on began to rumble.

No, not the ground...

On every side, the dead of the battle rose, surrounding her. The Dunmer from whom she had taken the blade’s eyes flashed...and then they turned blue.

“Oh, no...” Time to run. Shai kicked the Dunmer in front of her square in the chest, knocking him back into his new allies. As he moved to sit up she leapt onto his torso, and from their the head of another newly-created Azurite. As that Azurite fell back unconscious she leapt again, out of the way, grabbing and hugging the sides of a tower of the Fort. Desperately, she climbed, pulling her way to the top. Azurites began to climb after her from all sides.

The trapdoor. She ran towards it, only to have it burst open on its own, with more of the once-slain pouring out.

No option but to jump...

She flew off the fort wall and landed to watch a single blue-eyed Azurite in Daedric armor cut down five vampires.

“You!” Shai seethed.

Celeste. Traitor.

Reichi threw himself against the barrirer, swinging his blades against it, before sheathing them and repeatedly throwing himself agains tthe wall, it didn't budge. It wouldn't.

He slump to one knee, the left arm of his armor shattered and his arm bleeding from the attempt. It was dawn, and he couldn't even try his other form's power. "Cowards..bloody cowards, lower this damn thing and FIGHT!" he yelled.
--------

When the dead had risen, the Swordsmen, and Axemen of the WHOT leapt into full swing. Their durable sheilds and armor endured most blows, and their weapons tore through most of the reincarnated that faced them with ease. The Halberdiers made limited use of their halberds to clear swaths of the risen with arcs of lightning.

Tohe looked to Eya, and she shrugged, before delivering the brutual uppercut to the nearest slate-eyed risen mer, sending him into the air before he crashed into a rocky spire with a sickening crack.

Several more of the newly risen Azura-zombies met with a grisly fate at the Werewolves hands before they leapt and continued their rampage, leaping around the battlefield at will.

The hungry ash drunk deep of the blood spilled onto it...

"Marein!" Allerleirauh said sharply. "Nothing we can do from inside the Ghost Shell can bring it down. Do you want to cook us all?"

Except one thing, she thought.

We still have our voices. And our influence.

That was, in a way, all they had ever really had. It was what Azura would take from them if they did not win. They must make the best of it.

"Guys, enough," Loranna says, staring hard at both of them. "Don't fight among ourselves; there are better enemies to fight."

And blowing up the universe right now didn't seem right either, Loranna thinks to herself grimly.

The situation was dire; the party couldn't do much of anything trapped inside the Ghost Shell. Still, they weren't dead yet, so there was hope ... there had to be hope, right?

Kogoruhn:

“I don’t think you intend to do such,” Sul said still smiling. “Even so…”

Sul reached plucked one of the taunt bone chains. There were several clicks and a whirr of something spinning, metal and bone, as they grew tight. There were gears which the chains attached to, pulley wheels for the net. The shell suddenly grew more confined as the walls shrank inward.

“An inappropriate move on your part and…” Sul left the end trailing.

He turned to Loranna and laughed.

“He already rejoices at his freedom, very much like you will be soon,” Sul replied. He gave a gesture over their prison. “This was his you know. His knowledge, craft, and desired poured into form.”

Finished with the prisoners he glanced over to the remaining necromancers.

“Prepare them!” he ordered. “Hogithum has come, it would be a pity if the Accursed Mother and her companions missed their required places at the ceremony.”

Posted by: Tricrux Mar 22 2005, 02:20 AM

"Required places?" spat Marein.

"I REQUIRE myself to be standing on top of your dead body. Will your necromancer fetchers prepare me for that?"

Posted by: Rhedd Mar 22 2005, 02:31 AM

(Foyada Mamaea, Assarnatamat:)

"What now, Brother?!" Aricyn shouted over the wail and roar of battle.

A great host of once-fallen warriors was tearing through the rear of their army.

"Well, this makes things easier!" shouted Cyndarius through a wry smile. "There are so many enemies behind us, we might as well go forward!"

With a barked order, the well-trained 103rd Legion formed into a wedge formation, and with a roar like the ocean, the entire dwindling army surged forward.

The enemy fell back before them, but closed again on all sides. They were as trapped as ever, and doubly as doomed, but they were moving forward.

Through the sweat, dust, and blood, the towering statue of Azura could be seen on the distant cliff, lit by golden dawn light both artificial and real.

Alleleirauh glanced at Marein.

She wasn't sure why they weren't dead already. That meant Solin-Sul had a reason not to kill them. She knew Solin well enough to know that he had no particular desire to torment them by making them watch the end of all their plans. So there was something else going on.

"Alandro Sul," she said. "What are our required places at the ceremony?"

Arynel looked somberly at Solin-Sul.

"I remember when I first met you, or the first time I met that mer you use as a shell, whichever it is now." The Breton said, weaving a charm spell into his voice. "So quiet, studious, and attentive, seeming for all the world that you were oblivious to all but the words in your books. I knew better, you were smart, crafty, watchful. I had great admiration for you, for your patience, and wisdom. I remember when you asked me to take you to the city, and merrily I showed you the way. It is a pitty, I think, that this must be, that the paths may turn in such a fasion as this."

Foyada Mamea, Mirea:

Mirea had retreated into the Void. Her job was carrying messages back and forth from the different parts of the army. But she couldn't make sense of what she was watching. The wings of the Twilights were everywhere. The people wearing Imperial uniforms were as likely to be fighting for the Azurites as for the good guys.

She launched arrow after arrow, black and yellow fletching like hornets, but the enemy never grew any less. Where was Tris? She had lost track of the parrapton riders, one of the most conspicuous units in the battle. That was how bad it was.

The army was strung out all the way from Balmora, where the vampires were now fighting Azurite vampires. There was even fighting in Fort Moonmoth.

Posted by: Aki Mar 22 2005, 02:46 AM

Foyada Mamea
The WHOT joined the charge, orders being barked and the soldiers shifting posistions. The Halberdeirs took up the back, the marksmen in the middle, and the axe and swords men took up the front, being led by Afinhager and Raddin.

Tohe and Eya, the White Werewolf with streaks of black, and the heavily scarred brown one, continued their lightning fast strikes on the Azurites and those risen to aide them.
Some of the Azurites broke formation and ran at the sight of them, afterall, most normal people didn't get to see a Werewolf, let alone fight one. It was doubtful there was more than a handful in the entire Azurite army that had before this day.

"You don’t understand do you?" Sul sneered grasping the chains and pulling them into an uncomfortable confine. He released. "All of you have defied Azura! For that you will be judged!"

The mer then spoke directly to Loranna.

"Sen Yedda is born, it would be shameful to deny her 'family' a presence," he said.

(Foyada Mamaea:)

At one time, the two brothers that led the army had been twins, yet strikingly different. Where Aricyn was white, Cyndarius was rosy. Where Aricyn was silver as the moon, Cyndarius was as golden as the sun.

Now both men were equally red. Red with the gore of foe and friend alike. Their armor was red, their horses were red, and their faces were red, and still, the enemy came. Some who attacked them had been slain once already, and still they came.

Their great advantage lay in their horses. The mounted front-ranks of Imperial Legionnaires scattered the Azurite footsoldiers like grass, and their allies sent by Helseth followed to clean up the leavings.

The battle would have gone much different if they weren't outnumbered over ten-to-one... thirty-to-one now that the dawn had come.

Loranna holds back a grunt of pain from being constricted in the net.

"Sen-Yedda ..." she says, closing her eyes for a moment. Sen-Yedda was finally born - in the hands of Azura's followers. The thought brought a slow but lingering anger to the Nord's heart as well as a deep sorrow.

If we get through this, Sen-Yedda, I hope we can somehow heal whatever you're suffering right now, Loranna thinks, You shouldn't be made to endure any of this.

Loranna listens to the conversation between Allie and Alandro Sul, frowning.

Cyndarius blinked, then smiled to himself. So many strange allies...

Before him, the enemy was turning to face a new threat that unexpectedly came from behind them. It wouldn't take them long to learn that this new enemy was nothing but phantoms, but for now their ranks were in chaos.

"My pleasure, Mercy," he smiled then turned to the necromancers. "To the pillar."

The chanting of the necromancers grew once more and the Ghostshell dislodged itself from the ash of the room and began drifting, the chains spinning slowly about the exterior of the blue aura. The gear mechanism drifted up into view, it was where all the chains threaded and lit with enchantment, a small humming gem set was at the center of a large golden gear.

The illusion was the strongest Meph had ever made, he made illusions of men killing illusionairy azurites and illusions of his men being driven back, he went as far as puting "shrouds" around groups of azurites to make them look like thier enemys, many azurites fell to their own archers, meph slipped into a state where he no longer had to concentrate on the illusions, it turned into another meaningless task, it was breathing, it was sleeping, it was deceptive, and it was actually working...

It was a pony.

The Nords had been staying to the sides of the foyada, their sturdy little ponies skipping like mountain goats among the rocks as they rained arrows down on their foes.

Their foes had found them. Swarms of winged demons swooped on them relentlessly, dragging ponies and riders into the air and dropping them like stones onto their friends below.

Aricyn watched as five good men fell to another shaggy missle dropped from above.

Foyada: Tris

Tris wasn't sure he would know himself after this battle. Was that what had turned Dragon into the strange, emotionless being he was?

"MY LUCK IS GOLDEN!" Tris screamed like a battle cry, as his parrapton plunged down through the masses of Winged Twilights. It was true, too. He had reached into the place where what was said was true, and he had touched himself, touched Ciel, and now their luck was so good that nothing touched them. The effect extended to the parraptons. The two of them swooped through flights of demons, claws outstretched, and killed and killed, and no Winged Twilight ever made a mark on them.

The parrapton queen was still alive, too. Not because of any Void Ranger luck, but because she was more fearsome than a thousand Daedra. She led the flight of parraptons into the thickest part of the conflict, seizing things with her mandibles, biting, plunging her powerful stinger.

The sound of so many Winged Twilights, wings and voices, made it impossible to communicate. Fortunately their parraptons followed the queen wherever she went, so they could devote their energy to hurling spears and magic.

Tris saw a shape ahead that he didn't recognize. What were the Daedra doing? There were half a dozen of them, carrying something, something big and dark and struggling.

Tris saw the open-mouthed face of the screaming Nord rider as the Twilights let go of her and her pony. They fell towards the earth below.

He cast levitation on her. His brain seemed to be moving slower than he needed it to.

At the last second, the body of a Twilight passed between him and his target. The pony and woman hit the foyada below, spattering blood across the grey stone.

"Bastards!" Tris screamed, leaning forward to launch his parrapton at the nearest Twilights.

But the parrapton did not obey his instructions. The queen had turned aside. She had found the group of riders, and she was engaging the Twilights who were trying to carry away more ponies.

Tris and Ciel swooped after her, meeting the Twilights in the air.

The Void, Fort Moonmoth: Mirea

Mirea was looking for Illidan among the vampires fighting in Balmora when she saw Shai standing over the body of Celeste. She entered the world.

"Are you all right?"

"Don't worry," she said. "He'll have to let us out, if he plans to use our blood."

She smiled.

"You weren't so afraid to be pressed against me a few nights ago. Alandro is a loser, with no lover at all; let's laugh at him. That's what the psijiics say to do, anyway."

"He does seem pretty silly," Loranna agrees. "He has us all tied up here yet all he can say is "You've defied Azura!" and "I don't waste my breath saying things twice""

She chuckles. "Honestly, for this battle to end all battles, I'd have hoped to lose to someone more impressive."

She reached down into her robe and drew out a small cloth. Wrapped inside were the eight pieces of Arynel's sword.

That delivered, she began to think about that dreadful battle she had fought with Celeste.

Loranna gives a small grunt of pain as the chains tighten, but she laughs anyway.

"That's your big retort?" she asks Alandro Sul. "What? No mention of how I'm wasting my breath, but better to say all the things I want now before it's too late? No off-hand remark referring to my lover just to twist the knife into my chest a little more? No pithy sayings gleaned over the centuries, no ironic comment to make to Vehk's former lover? Just "I assure you though, you, all of you, will be quite dead?" Ogrims have better comebacks than that!"

She sticks out her tongue and gives Alandro Sul a raspberry. "Vehk and Allie are both right; you ARE boring. I'm surprised you had the wit to think to put this net here in the first place."

(Foyada Mamaea:)

Cyndarius and Aricyn circled each other, as back-to-back as men can get on horseback. The old wolf hung, panting limply, over Aricyn's lap. He was old, and injured, and tired... and he had had enough.

Aricyn held him with one limp, bleeding arm, wildly swinging his greatsword with the other, fending off winged demons that dove at his brother.

Cyndarius, meanwhile, swept low with a shortsword, keeping the endless hordes from cutting their mounts legs from under them.

Far, far to their right, Aricyn saw Annulf Bear-son beheaded, and with him the battle standard... and the shining, golden helm, fell into the black dust and was lost from sight.

Red Mountain: Pillar of Azura

The ghost shell carried the prisoners into what had once been the Heart Chamber.

Here there were many Azurite priests and priestesses. Nibani Maesa and the wise women of the Ashlanders. A band of Mabrigash. Alandro Sul had given the people who had sheltered him for millenia high positions in the New Temple.

They stood gathered around the Pillar of Dawn, which pulsed bright blue in the dim red haze that rose from the lava below.

An Ashlander girl, barely old enough to marry, held the baby. She was dressed in antique clothing. A netchiman's wife.

The baby was dusky skinned, like a Dunmer, but plump and rosy, like a Nord. She had soft, fine hair, white as starlight.

Sen-Yedda was asleep, her dainty, silver lashes resting against her dark cheeks.

Herwyn Brand stood in the small rose garden, watching the morning clouds.

He believed every report that arrived from his spies. If he didn't, he would get new spies. He believed what he had heard from Ald Raathim.

It would have been a beautiful morning, he thought, if not for the date.

He lowered his head and said a quiet prayer for Tris Gaerington and Sir Ciel Dolbinen.

He prayed that they would succeed.

Earlier at Moonmoth

Celeste and Shai, after a full hour's battle, were in a deadlock. Celeste held her blade to Shai's head, and Shai's fingers were at Celeste's throat, and they stood there, panting, too tired to strike.

"I could kill you, right now," Celeste murmured.

"So could I," gasped Shai. "You betrayed us. Why?"

"Azura will win anyway, don't you see that? Why struggle and earn bad favor?"

"Because it's right."

"Oh? Big words from a little woman. What's right about killing thousands of my comrades?"

Shai looked troubled. "I - only killed one. I had to! You killed my comrades, I saw you!"

Celeste shrugged. "They were vampires. They're better off dead, foul beasts. You see? Your side brings werewolves, vampires - and we? we bring the pious."

"You don't actually believe that. Think, Celeste. Marein has told us about you, how you thist for power and fight for yourself and yourself alone. What if your God wins? There will be no thought. No power. Nothing at all. There's more to this world than power, Celeste. There's a world to see, to live, experience...

Her voice softened. "You were what I was, once. Young, carefree. You lived life to the fullest, you cared for no law, no ruler. Look at yourself now. Look! Already bitter with your life full ahead of you. You could kill me now. But you won't."

"Won't I?" asked Celeste, clouded with trouble. "I will. I will."

She drew back her sword, ready to swing, then stopped.

Shai nodded. "You see? I know you, Celeste. Already I know you. I know what is in your heart, you are still the woman you were five years ago, Azura has no bearing on your actions!"

Celeste reddened, choking with anger, fury. She charged towards Shai, faster than might be considered possible with the armor she was wearing. Instinctively Shai curled up, exhaustion searing into her muscles when she tried to jump.

Then Celeste reached her.

And she pushed Shai out of her way, slicing into the red-armoured Daedra who had been sneaking up behind to end the standoff.

He grunted in surprise, forcing her away and impaling her - then falling back into the ground. A cloud of dust rose up where they landed, one on top of the other, each their sword through the opposite's chest.

Shai ran up to Celeste. "You see?" she whispered.

Celeste smiled weakly. "I will not die for many hours, Shai. But there will be no saving me. Take this, the blade of your friend. And leave me here, fight on. I will die in peace, rid of Azura...if you can stop Alandro Sul. Please, do this for me..."

Shai embraced Celeste tearfully, then stumbled away. She was standing there, shaking, when Mirea arrived.

"Let me have your horse, lad!" he shouted. "The wolf will live if any of us do, I swear it on my life! You use that voice of yours, get us closer to the mountain! This is no good while the dead come back to life because of that Pillar!"

Mirea watched them from the Void, shooting arrow after arrow into the swirl of swift wings and feet. She needed to talk to Cyndarius, but she was afraid of being trampled.

Posted by: Teleran Mar 22 2005, 06:06 AM

Teleran had stayed to the back of the battles so far, sending daggers in when needed but overall he had remained uncharacteristically quiet and reserved throughout the whole course of events, he had said not a word since landing in Vvardenfell. The thought of destroying Red Mountain did not sit too well with him, but the thought of becoming a slave to a Daedra’s will or being obliterated by the Daedra’s servants was worse. He hadn’t wanted to mess things up on this mission; he was growing more conscious of how much he could screw things up, This time, if anything he had erred on the side of not doing enough, slow in reacting to the Atronachs and too late to do anything about Solin, or rather Sul; not that he could have done much if he had reacted quicker.

Trapped with the others in the ghost shell he looked from Solin-Sul, to the chanting mages and back to those trapped with him. He chuckled at the gibes at Sul and almost swallowed his tongue when Lor said that Sul should be thanking her for getting things in motion that he had feared to do. Sul’s responses were disappointingly dull, lacking the proper bite that Teleran had expected to come in response to some of the comments. He found himself agreeing more and more with the assessment Allie had offered earlier, Sul was boring.

He tried to pick something up beyond the ghost shell, but failed, not that he had expected to be able to, if Allie and Nalion couldn’t break through it with their spells his paltry skills certainly wouldn’t pose any threat of doing so.

Teleran started at the sight of the baby, Sen-Yedda. She looked almost peaceful in her sleep. Too bad the illusion of peace was ruined by the pulsing blue light playing over her.

“Damn it Sul. You are boring! Can’t even think up an original story for your Princess, you have to steal one from the Thief!” Teleran laughed as he strained against the ghost shell.

Aricyn spun in the saddle and looked at the man's solid face.

"I'll hold you to that," he said, and patting the wolf's tired head one more time, he dismouted.

Cyndarius smiled and nodded to him, and Aricyn braced himself to sprint forward into the throng of enemies.

Far, far to his right, something bright caught his eye. Helgi Hagslayer, his beautiful, pale features caked in blood, his mouth frozen open in a continuous shout, tore through the enemy and raised the banner from the dust. The helm shone like a lantern, driving Twilights away, to another part of the battlefield.

Aricyn began to run, and as he did, he opened his mouth. His ribs ached and his mouth bled, but still he kept shouting.

Before him, the endless enemy began to part. Ahead, he could see Ghostgate.

Loranna had grown quieter as the party was carted off to
Red Mountain, partly due to the growing realization of approaching a place where momentous events had transpired.

The sight of the giant statue of Azura, so reminiscient of the giantess of her dreams, also contributed to Loranna's quieter demeanor. She reflected that in a way, her dreams may have been warning her all along of this day and the price for losing; she hoped that she and her friends would find a way to win still, and she herself wasn't yet ready to give up hope, even if she could see the giantess's foot looming over them all.

The sight of Sen-Yedda makes Loranna's eyes moisten, and for one moment, all she can think is how lovely and helpless the baby girl looks. She reaches out to squeeze Allie's hand, now guessing why Allie's hair had turned grey.

"The world is not at an end yet. The moment of the enemy's victory is also the moment of its greatest weakness. Only in victory will the enemy be vulnerable to defeat."
Nalion, cramped with the others in the ghostshell eyed the Pillar of Azura. As long as they weren't dead yet, they still stood a chance. The Breton mage took faith in the words Skein had said to him...
