Time for the post-release gameplay thread. I'd appreciate it if you could mark spoilers. To do that copy:
TYPE YOUR SPOILER HERE
And then type your spoiler in the appropriate area. It will show up like so:

Spoiler: Highlight to view
TYPE YOUR SPOILER HERE

Thanks, and enjoy the game!

Grmbl. It's eleveneleveneleven here but still have to wait another thirty minutes before I can install. I'm angry and annoyed. I've been angry allot lately, must be channeling my Nord rage. Owh yeah.

Pff. Just venting, beware, hot steam.

I have the retail disk. It won't install because it has not been released yet. Downloading and installing it from steam no problem. Who came up with that insanity? You'd think that having the actual data sitting inside your PC would forgo the need to download it!

What a bloody hassle.

Had a similar problem with Deus Ex, even though I owned the physical disc I still was forced to login to Steam even just to install it, which was going to take close to half an hour of time I didn't have, so I wanted to just let it go so I could come back and play later, but nooooooo....

btw enjoy the game you ungrateful bastards, some of us still have to wait six more weeks for our turn rabblerabblerabble

Picking it up tomorrow. I'm avoiding a number of websites between when I wake up and when I get through the main quest and enough faction questlines to feel comfortable.

I hope I don't see someone post spoilers in some topic title. Should avoid the forums till I beat the MQ.

Well it's been worth the wait. Damn, game is good so far. They hit the atmosphere well?

I picked this up about an hour ago and am currently installing it (waiting for steam *grumble grumble*)...

I REALLY cannot wait to play this, especially after watching a little bit of Giant Bomb's 12-hour live stream of them playing it yesterday.

An aside: I like how the paper map is heartier than the ones that came with MW and OB.

I love all the new books. I'm laughing out loud reading "Alduin is real, and he ent Akatosh". Also, bar brawls are tons of fun, the new character customization system adds a ton of depth over Morrowind and Oblivion. The meandering loyalties, different quest resolutions and complicated internal politics of Skyrim actually would appear to be much deeper than Morrowind's experience, though if you'd told me before I played I would not have believed you. More later. I need to punch out more guys at bars and read more books.

Sorry, "he ent Akatosh?"

This hasn't arrived yet, so I can't read the book myself.

Where are the friendly giants? You know, the ones you can walk beside, without their painted cows rolling on me. Is there a quest for this?

It's written by a very angry, very traditionalist, and not particularly literate Nord man.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to speak to the Greybeards, who supposedly trained Tiber Septim AND Wulfharth.

edit:  Some notes on climbing High Hrothgar. It's an absolutely tremendous mountain. You really get a sense of sheer vertical scale. As far as I've been able to tell, there's no simple single cell path that leads you to the top. I'm about a third of the way up and I've been meandering in and out of heavily infested caves. It's an actual struggle to get to the Greybeards. It's not a simple walk in the park like travelling to a city. On that note, travelling to cities in this game is not a simple walk in the park.

Another random observation - while I have yet to encounter a giant, I did attempt to fight a mammoth. After depleting all my magicka, I gave up trying to heal and fight and ran away. Granted I'm not a mage by any stretch. I rolled a Nord. He specialized in dual wielding war axes and wearing light armor. He's wearing a rather low level set of leather at the moment. He's only level six. The one Dragon I've killed so far was easier than the mammoth I ran away from, and barely escaped. I did have a lot of help with the Dragon though. Lots of guards, mostly archers. I did use up all my healing and mana potions (for healing spells.) I had very little health left when I finished him. I got a cool unique killing animation for dragons and war axes. It apparently consisted of cutting out the Dragon's eyes or something. It dropped a lot of arrows, a suit of Whiterun armor and helmet, three Dragon scales and one huge Dragon bone that weighed like 30 lbs. I can't craft anything and don't own a house for storage so I sold the Dragon bits.

Health regeneration - I can safely debunk this myth, and hard. Health does not regenerate during combat at all unless you use a potion or spell. It regenerates more slowly than we've been led to believe outside combat, too. Nowhere near FPS rate that some have compared it to. I have alternated points in Health and Stamina each level, and have more health than some players might (mages or thieves) but even at level 1 with only 100 health it regenerated quite slowly. Only thing that's killed me so far was a Draugr Lord, in Bleak Falls Barrow. He hit harder than I anticipated. With the Mammoth and Dragon fights, I knew what was coming and planned for it ahead of time.

Aaaand I just found M'aiq the liar. Near the top peaks of High Hrothgar, randomly standing and facing a rock, apparently picking alchemy ingredients. He's wearing a yellowish mage's robe of a fairly cool design. He's not apparently the same guy from Oblivion. Different face, different fur, different voice. But he's definitely M'aiq.

"M'aiq does not understand what is so impressive about shouting. M'aiq can shout whenever he likes." "Saw a mudcrab the other day. Horrible creatures." "M'aiq is tired now. Go bother somebody else." "M'aiq is done talking." I'm assuming he only says one or two of his rumors each time you randomly encounter him. I got two that made me smile, then apparently he found me tiresome and repeated the "M'aiq is done talking" no matter how many times I tried to talk.

edit: I consider this geographical stuff less of a spoiler than the stuff I blacked out above. I was apparently wrong about the mountain climbing thing, at least partially. That cave I went in didn't lead all the way to the top. It was a dead end. I continued to circle the base of the mountain and found a faint but distinct winding path around it. Haven't reached the steps yet but I'm getting higher up this time. I assume this is the right path.

edit 2: Wow, wrong again! I'm loving this...this game definiteloy doesn't hold your hand. Yes, there's a compass marker, but finding the actual path of the mountain is a huge task. It's reminiscent of some of the better aspects of being lost in Morrowind. It could take me another hour to find the top of this mountain. I've never been so happy to repeatedly fail anything in my entire life.

The only complaint I have so far is that High Hrothgar's interior should be about six times the size it is now. There's just something about four wise sages living in a huge and empty monestary that you could walk around in for an hour before realizing anyone actually lived there. And frankly, I think we'll have to see a mod add dust accumulation, since Bethesda has already implemented snow accumulation, as High Hrothgar's interiors would be covered in it.

Oh, and I was attacked by a dragon without a texture, which was hilarious until the game crashed (for the first and only time).

And I'll just admit this right now. I just played Skyrim for twenty hours straight. Its absolutely amazing. The multiplicity of factions, the detail, the books, the design, the moral dilemnas, consistantly new and interesting enemies, gorgeous screenshots... I mean EVERYTHING.

I'm going to go to sleep now and try to accomplish a few things tomorrow before I'm sucked back in...

This game kicks ass. It also kicks my ass, repeatedly, which is something I've forgotten how to experience.

Here's my main, Chemua Kynesdotter. She's an assassin, despite the robe.

Looooving the game so far. I play on 360, and a lot of the textures are muddy/honestly downright awful. That doesn't really effect me, though. The environmental graphics are amazing, of course.

My wanting to know and discuss everything is seriously interfering with my wanting to fafle about and do nothing for several ingame months.

Pretty sad that I couldn't prematurely enter Hight Hrothgar and be blasted to ash or something. On the upside, holy crap that's one big mountain. Wow.

I love how strategic the dragon fights can be. I've felled three of them so far and none of them has been the same fight. It's all different*. The terrain varies wildly and the tactics the dragons use adjusts to that, and so must yours. I really wish I didn't have to work today.

Well, the dragons' flight patterns and my own tactics differ. If it's out in the open I sprint quickly to one side when they use their fire or ice attacks. If it's in a secluded or rocky area like a word wall I use that thing as cover. When they land my tactic so far has been "FUS RO!" to the face and charge in while they're stunned, hacking away with  power attacks. I retreat and heal when my health gets below half. The best time to heal is right after the dragon flies up into the air again. You can almost predict his pattern at this point. He almost never immediately attacks. Usually circles around. If you are quick and good with hot keys/favorite system you can chug a potion or spell and have your attack method out again in time.

I LOVE the shoulder brooch. I'm working on an Anglo-Saxon/Viking archaeology exhibition at the moment and we have examples that are almost identical.

Damn i'm going to have to put this on my Christmas list aren't I

This game is incredibly fun so far. I'm very, very impressed. I started over and created a Dunmer because its bonuses matched the kind of playstyle I want this time around.

I'm having trouble finding time to play the game -- work and family have kept me busy.  I've only been at it for about 2-3 hours total.  I'm loving what little I've seen so far.

After I go through the MQ at my leisurely pace on a Nord character and own a sweet mansion and be like the most powerful greybeard ever, I'mma be starting a new one as an argonian close-combat double-dagger guy and make my living catching & selling feesh.

I will probably keep creating new characters well into 2013 after that point. Replay value, ho!

N, I dont understand how you've got any trouble avoind the main quest. I'm trying to do the main quest but I just end up running into other quests that seem short and easy and arent. I did a drinking contest in Skiven (south east), I woke up the temple of Dibella up in the north west. Just what the hell. Not to mention that the displacement means I have a dozen actives down there and am now triggering quests up there too.

Owh and I had a Dark Brotherhood assasain drop in on me. Verry ineffectively flailing two daggers at my shield. It looked funny. Then I shouted her off a cliff.

Seen a couple of Dragons now but they don't seem to bother to stick around long. I shoot a few arrows at them and they depart again.

I also don't understand how the armorer skill works but it seems to produce level apropriate armor. Just made leather armor that has 4x more points then the Imperial Light I was using before. Kinda shame because the Imperial Light is good looking.

Also I bought a house to dump my stuff. Except I'm never there. Seen a few Falmer and basically had to back out again. Though bastards.

I'm playing a Khajiit, light armor, bow, single hand and sneak seems to work out well. The time slow perks are especially nice. Opponent power attacking? Not anymore. Running really fast at you while aiming your bow? Not anymore.

I also have the thane as companion now. Gave her a bow and raiding ruins is pretty much a swat operation now. Too bad I can't have more then one of those at the same time. Probebly going to mod that in first thing (if I have time).

Avoiding main quest to prevent dragon-related damages to populace. Dark Brotherhood proving elusive. Must press on.

Everyone except the beast races can have entirely black eyes. Is that some sort of condition?
