Letter to the Magnastylus

Librarian Comment:

This book was added in the Scrivener's Hall dungeon.

To my replacement,

I'm not trying to be flippant, but I know from personal experience that being Magnastylus is awful. It's a burden. Leaving the logistical nightmare of overseeing Scrivener's Hall to one mind alone? The entire hall must be filled with accurate information from across the ever-changing landscapes of Oblivion. It is required. Every time a new rift opens, the maps of the plane must be updated, and the old maps transitioned to the archives as opposed to the library's shelves. Every tome must be verified and uninfluenced by biases. All of this on top of leading the Scribes of Mora? What if there aren't enough new scribes? Oh, and how many are lost in Oblivion? How many will perish on their travels? This is a punishment. It has to be. I must have done something horribly wrong and Hermeaus Mora gave me the title to teach me the error of my ways.

The one good thing about this title is the Magnastylus's study. It's the only room in this accursed hall where it's possible to relax and read—the activities that drove me to join the scribes in the first place. It's a room which is mine and mine alone. It's also the only room where no one will touch the Itinerant Staff.

I'm not happy carrying the staff outside of excursions into the planes, though some Magnastyluses of the past took it everywhere as a symbol of their status. I find it too unwieldy for clerical work. Sometimes, when I use it, I get the feeling that the staff has a power of its own. Something that calls out through the void and is answered. I prefer not to think about it.

Oh, and as a last note, don't even bother to go into the vault. Reinfyr won't let you unless you help him deal with those Cartoklepts. Don't ask me what they are. I just told Reinfyr I'd help him and then walked away. If Reinfyr isn't the vault keeper anymore, then don't bother with his replacement, Reinfyr will probably chose someone just like himself to watch the vault.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do fine.
