Discuss the gameplay (i.e. everything that isn't lore) of ESO here.

The melee was pretty loyal to TES but the magic/spell casting system was too MMO if you ask me.

I was a bit annoyed when I found out I could lock on targets. Then I got into PVP and realized it was a necessity. The game ofcourse IS an MMO; hoping not to see any MMO elements is a bit unrealistic.

Combat felt better than unmodded Skyrim; there was a bit more of a sense of actually hitting things, and enemies block smarter. Spell casting was somewhat slow, and lacked in variety (at low levels) but all in all I can't say it was bad. Movement itself is a massive increase from Skyrim; tapping twice in any direction lets you dodge, roll and sidestep, which I really would not mind seeing in TES6. Jumping looked less ridiculous in 3rd person too. Swimming really sucks, though; the animations are downright bad and you can't dive under or fight in water.

The "class" system is the biggest fail I've ever seen. Who thought it was a good idea to have only 4 classes, 2 of which are beyond niche? All of which use magic? Fail.

That drove me insane. I tried to make a totally non-magic character, and it meant not using the class system at all, and only focusing on weapons, race, and armour. It was awful. And almost impossible.

The day is almost upon us... I'm still trying to decide what kind of character to play. Leaning toward a bosmer caster-DK defected to Ebonheart. May just make a nord berserker, though.

A character without magic would certainly have far fewer options, but it doesn't lack any mandatory capabilities I can think of. What was hard to accept was the dragon knight and templar, but then I remembered schools of magic are arbitrary, so just looking at it as 2E parochialism lets me sleep at night.

There's momentum behind Skull Crusher as the community-designated Cyrodiil campaign for RP, so I hope to see familiar names there.

Yeah, the whole thing is just fail. Went in wanting to play an ES game, left having wasted time playing a generic, formulaic MMO.

I realize this isn't strictly related to gameplay, but the generic thread got shut down, so let me ask- does anyone else thing ESO is a teensy bit (large bit) overpriced? I mean, 60 dollars for an ES game is one thing. But 60 dollars for an ES MMO that (while good) hasn't shown any specific shining points, plus 15 every month recurring.... That seems a bit much

How is Black Marsh presented in this?

A lot do. I would probably have bought the game if it was cheaper, the same way I bought the mobile games. I mean, I thought the mobile games were jokes, and played nothing like any ES game, but they were short and cheap, so I went through them just for the sweet souvenir. ESO? Has to go F2P for me to touch it.

It's standard MMO pricing. The $15/month sub fee pays for all the support that an MMO needs that an single player game doesn't. The other option is to go F2P, at which people start whining about "pay to win" and all that jaz.

I wouldn't buy your standard MMO either. I'd buy one that I think matters and plays how I think it should. ESO doesn't to me. So if it goes F2P, I might try it just for the experience, as the Beta gameplay and mechanics weren't anything to write home about.

I think there's a lot of ES fans that aren't into a lot of MMOs in general and are just trying ESO because it's Elder Scrolls. I was going to bite until they announced it was sub based and the base game would be 60$. This isn't 2004. I think it will inevitably go F2P, but how long is the question.

Yeah, I'm mostly in the same boat. I'm not as embittered towards the game as I was before, but the subscription sort of kills my interest for the most part.

So what is everyone's handle? Have the Marukhati guilds sprung up yet? Any promising RP guilds?

Played it for like eight hours at mom's house today. She's got a much better gaming PC than I can afford, and she loves Elder Scrolls, but I pried her away from it for today. I rolled a Nord Dragonknight. I named him Soc-Doon. That's a very old in-joke that concerns a very old character my friends and I created years ago for something non ES related, so the name isn't lore friendly, but I am kinda partial to it for some reason. You won't see me on much though. Never during the week. Gotta say, taking down a Dark Anchor as part of a group was really a lot of fun. Got to experience that today. I'll also say that melee classes seem weaker than casting classes at low levels, assuming the Sorcerer still does as much damage as she did during the beta. Ah well. I'll experiment more later.

edit: Of course, my love affair with non combat skills may be weakening me. The first Fighters Guild perk I took was Intimidating Presence, because it's fucking cool to have extra dialogue options in an RPG. That's a step in the right direction, and I love that it's one possible way I could have invested my skill point, so I went for it.

Marukhati has been up and running since Beta - send me a PM in game or on Facebook to join. My nick's LadyNerevar.

Has anyone actually put many points into Soul Magic? I can kind of see how it'd be useful, some of the perks that is, but would it be worth it to make a build that heavily relies on that at the expense of class, racial or weapon skills?

That's the soultrap one, right? It's serving me well so far in terms of having stones to revive with. I've morphed the skill to fill two gems instead of one and drain the target's health.

Is there anything super useful in that skill lines besides Soul Trap? I can see how that one would have its place.

I actually can't remember what else is in there. I'll check on it tonight. I've generally only leveled the 5 skills in my bar plus passives. That's probably not the right way to play, but it's served me well enough for now.

What's a character or account to message in-game about the selectives? (LadyNerevar said not found, in either context.)

You've gotta put an @ sign in front of the account name. Try @ladynerevar, or if that doesn't work, Daria M'Karai. Mailing me in-game will also work under either of those names. I'll be on in a minute.

Following up on the soul magic question: the skills in that line are dope. I just took passive that lets you respawn without a soulgem once per two hours, and that's definitely something I can see getting some use.

Ah, good. I'm afraid I'm gonna spread too many skillpoints into non combat and gimp myself. The game offers so many interesting choices in that regard.

Soul trap is a good ranged DoT for me right now, so not really motivated to spend skill points economizing on gems. I'm sure that will change as I unlock more actives. The soul trap ultimate looks quite strong.

Sadly, I'm already out of unused guild slots at the moment on the US server.

Is the gameplay like Dragon Age?

I only have access to about 8 colors, but the new dye system seems fun.

I'm really looking forward to trying it out. I'm not sure why artists insist on making things olive green, but now I can finally rock some jewel tones like a proper Redguard.

My Bosmer Nightblade looks great in olive green!

I'm only at lvl 9 so my color choices are quite limited.  Right now, my armor is a dark blue with gold and gray accents.
