Hi, Melchior Dahrk here. Most of you may not know me. I spend most of my time at the Officials and GHF. I've lurked here for a while.

I'm curious about "angels" in TES lore. I know that they can easily be condemned by naming them a DnD throwback to TES's origins. The word angel is only really used twice as far as I can see from a search at the Library. Here and here. Granted, the second link seems to be metaphorical. The first though, about Umaril, sort of makes me wonder.

Granted, the use of the word may be similar to how "Earth" is used rather than Nirn at times. When the word doesn't seem to have any base in lore and is simply analogous to our own world-earth synonym.

However, two small references isn't entirely what sparked this thread. I was looking through the concept art here again and found this. Was it implemented in-game?

I guess the reason for this thread is to ask a question. Does something akin to angels exist in TES lore? I wrote this fan-fiction a while back for a big mod I'm working on. I mentioned aetheric angels in it. I do find it interesting, in relation to my document, that Winged Twilights are called the messengers of Azura and the greek word angelos from which angel is derived means messenger. I know, pulling stuff out of my butt. But, just curious what do you think.

"According to some rumors, Akatosh interfered. The Jills of Akatosh amended the broken time and space caused by the Numidium and Mantella." -- from the Major Realms of the Iliac Bay article.

These would come close, I think. Jills are the servants of Akatosh, and could be roughed up as angels if you define them as the messengers of a particular god, in this case they would be the "angels" for the Tamrielic faith, ensuring that any breaks in time are mended quickly; watching over Mundus, if you will.

Sload mentioned something once about the fact that as dragons were so important to the Imperials that they may be considered "angels" in the respect of their holiness as well.

That's what I've got.

Good point with that comparison. And following my logic, Winged Twilights could be considered angels to others, Azura worshippers or superstitious Dunmer.

I guess, being hung up on appearances, feathered wings and everything, I'll reiterate my other question. Was the Spirit which I linked to above implemented in Battlespire? I've never seen it anywhere other than that concept.

Just some thouhgts.

Going by the difinition of angels as servants of god you could interpert the Fingers of Kynareth in 2920 as such.

Perhaps even the dwemer Animunculi are angels. Brass Angels of a Brassgod.

DREAD KNOT

no no goddamnit no

There are angels in this, the handservants of gods, and the dragons are among them. Dragons are not 'like' angels only in their status among the men of Niben, they are actual angels, and like angels they are terrible to behold when unmasked. Of the same class of beings are King Hrol and Morihaus - being from beyond lost Twil.

None of the other beings listed in this thread are like these and they are not angels.
