TES2: Daggerfall Characters

Akorithi (b.3E369 d.3E???)

She is the Queen of Sentinel. She is the widow of Camaron, who was killed at the end of the War of Betony. Her two sons are Greklith and Lhotun. Her eldest child is Aubk-i.

Sometime after the agent of Uriel Septim VII helped Prince Lhotum gaining information about the eldest son of Sentinel royal family (in his quest to recover the missing letter of The Emperor), he receives a summon from Queen Akorithi. The Queen asks the agent to retrieve a painting somewhere in the Wayrest Castle. The nature of the painting is obscure; she just claims that the painting is an heirloom of the late King Lysandus.

The painting is somehow magical, the scene in the painting shifts and twists. The agent can clearly see the inside of a tent. Several men in the livery of Wayrest are intensely debating with a man bearing the coat of arms of Daggerfall. One of the Wayrest men slips behind the Daggerfall man, draws a dagger and casually slides it between his ribs. The image fades as the life ebbs from his body.

A weird scene. The Queen gladly receives the painting and pays the gold she promised to the agent. The intention and motive of Queen Akorithi stealing the painting, is still vague to this day.

Queen Akorithi is one of the wielders of the Numidium. She is one of the seven retrievers of the Totem of Tiber Septim, a tool for controlling the Dwemer construct. Originally the Totem of Tiber Septim is only one, but a strange time-warping effect known as Warp in the West makes all seven parties of Iliac Bay retrieve the totem.

Some years after the Second Numidian Effect (Warp in the West), a plague strikes Sentinel. The plague takes the Queen's life as well as Sentinel's official heir, Prince Greklith.

Arslan II (b.3E319 d.3E377)

He is the father of Lysandus and the husband of Nulfaga. He is the King of Daggerfall before Lysandus.

Arthago (b.3E385 d.3E400)

Arthago is the firstborn of the Queen Akorithi and the late King Camaron of Sentinel. Due to his poor health, his parents decided that he couldn't rule the Sentinel throne. To eliminate the political feud in the latter days, they decided to make him disappear. In his 15th years, he is brought to Castle Faalem, a ruined castle, and being left alone to die; then the Sentinel Palace creates a story that the prince got kidnapped by Underking's agent. Recently his fate is resurfaced with the help of the Uriel Septim VII's agent.

Aubk-i (b.3E386)

Queen of Daggerfall and consort of King Gothryd. Her parents are Queen Akotrithi of Sentinel and the late King Camaron. Her brothers are Lhotun and Greklith.

After the War of Betony, King Gothryd asks her hand to become his wife. The request is intended to restore the friendship between the two kingdoms. And it is partially successful, though many in the royal court of Sentinel view Aubk-i as more a prisoner that a bond to Daggerfall.

When Nulfaga, the Queen Mother, finds the location of the Mantella, the heart that fueled the Numidium (a Dwemeri construct that helped Tiber Septim conquered Tamriel), The Emperor Uriel Septim sends a letter to the Queen of Daggerfall, Queen Mynisera. A special seal on the envelope is to tip Lady Brisienna that in fact the letter is intended to her. She was supposed to get the location of the Mantella by any means necessary. Alas, the War of Betony delays the arrival of the letter. The letter arrives very late, after the war, and comes to the wrong hand, the new Queen of Daggerfall, Queen Aubk-i. Confused, the Queen then sells the letter to King Gortworg of Orsinium. When asked about the letter, Queen Aubk-i denies that she has read the letter, and she claims that the letter has been stolen the same day she received it.

After the Second Numidian Effect (Warp in the West), she and King Gothryd continue to rule Daggerfall, and keep the kingdom as one of the prominent political powers in the Iliac Bay.

Barenziah (b.2E893)

Barenziah is truly a remarkable person. She was born in 2E893 as the daughter of Lord and Lady of Mournhold. She grows up in Skyrim, banished to the land of the Nords, after Tiber Septim conquers Morrowind. During her adventurous escape back to Morrowind, she joins the Thieves Guild in Whiterun, taught of thieving skills by a Khajiit named Therris.

Finally, Symmachus, a general in the Imperial Army, said to have the friendship and the ear of Tiber Septim himself, captures her. Barenziah is then sent to the Imperial City to spend some time as a part of the Emperor's household as the Queen of Mournhold.

Eventually, she meets Tiber Septim. Tiber Septim is fascinated with Barenziah's beauty. After Symmachus left to go back to Mournhold, she makes an affair with The Emperor, and gets pregnant. Hearing her pregnancy, Tiber Septim is furious. Avoiding any scandal, he orders the pregnancy to be aborted, and then he sends Barenziah to Mournhold. And Symmachus takes her as his wife. From their union, Helseth and Morgiah are born.

In the 3E376, Barenziah is attracted to the talented Bard named Nightingale. In fact Nightingale just wants to retrieve the powerful artifact known as the Staff of Chaos, which is hidden in the Old Mournhold, the ruins beneath the Mournhold. Under Nightingale manipulation, Barenziah finally opens the way to the Old Mournhold. Right after the way opened, Nightingale snatches the Staff of Chaos, and magically disappeared.

Cannot do anything to pursue the Bard, Symmachus sends a message to The Emperor Uriel Septim VII, but the response only says that Symmachus should contact Jagar Tharn, The Imperial Battlemage. Since long, Symmachus has suspected that Tharn is behind the theft of the Staff of Chaos, with this reply he is certain that the Nightingale in fact is Jagar Tharn.

Then the news from the Imperial City says that Jagar Tharn and Ria Silmane have died, but along with the delightful news also comes the increasing of tax by The Emperor. Soon the citizen of Morrowind revolts, Symmachus does his best to suppress the rebellion, then he send Barenziah and their two children to the Imperial City to make an audience with The Emperor, to reduce tax.

In the Imperial City, Barenziah does meet The Emperor Uriel Septim VII, as a magicka-wielder herself, Barenziah knows that The Emperor is not the real one. It is Jagar Tharn. And the audience results nothing. Then the news from Morrowind comes, Symmachus has been betrayed by the Imperial Guard. The Imperial Guard deserted and then joined the rebellion, leaving the handful of loyal followers of Symmachus. Symmachus and his followers died. Barenziah has no time to mourn; she collects all her strength and wit to face Jagar Tharn in The Emperor disguise.

Barenziah knows that Tharn splits the Staff of Chaos into 8 parts and hides them in some obscure places. She also knows that the locations of those places are scribbled in Tharn's diary. Secreted, she reads the diary and deciphers the locations. After the last location deciphered, she with her children and King Eadwyre of Wayrest escape the Imperial City. Afraid of political issue and scandal, Tharn has done nothing to prevent them. Then Barenziah becomes the Queen of Wayrest, and King Eadwyre adopts her children Helseth and Mogiah.

All her story is recorded in a series of biography titled "The Real Barenziah". The author Plitinius Mero (also Barenziah's Scribe) put a great detail in the biography. This makes a great scandal in the Imperial City. The biography is banned and Mero himself was almost being executed, until Barenziah intervenes. Plitinius Mero is now still working as Barenziah's Scribe and follows her whenever she goes. He plans to continue the biography.

During her time in Wayrest, the biography is still banned. King Gortworg of Orsinium wants all the dirt he can get on all royal families of High Rock. He manages to get a copy of the biography. Unfortunately, not only Gortworg who wants to play in the rough water, King of Worms, the leader of the Necromancers is also interested in the book. One of the Necromancer's minions steals the book.

Afraid of creating a major issue in the Wayrest Court, Barenziah asks the Uriel Septim VII's agent to retrieve the book, in exchange for the information of the Uriel's letter and also the Totem of Tiber Septim that the agent sought so far. The scandalous book is finally Barenziah's again, and the agent gets the information for his assignment from The Emperor.

Some years after the Second Numidian Effect where all the party of Iliac Bay wields Numidium, the old King Eadwyre passes away. The Throne of Wayrest is wrestled by Helseth and Elysana (Eadwyre's daughter from his previous wife). Unfortunately, Helseth loses. The new Queen Elysana then banishes Barenziah and Helseth from the Wayrest Court. They go back to Mournhold of Morrowind. Morgiah on the other hand, has left Wayrest before the fight for Wayrest Throne begun; she marries the King of Firsthold.

The old King Llethan passes away sometime after the arriving of Barenziah and Helseth. Then Helseth takes over the reign, and becomes the new King of Morrowind. Some loyalists accuse Helseth poisoned King Llethan to death. An accusation without a prove, obviously.

After the fulfilling of the Nerevarine Prophecies and the destruction of Dagoth Ur, Helseth sees the new Nerevarine as a threat to his new monarchy. So he hires Dark Brotherhood to exterminate the Nerevarine, but the assassin group fails. In the end Helseth pull the Nerevarine to his side to face yet another threat, the ancient goddess, Almalexia. During all these times, Barenziah helps the Nerevarine to fulfill his quests.

Until now, Barenziah lives in the city of Mournhold. To the time of this article written, at 3E433, Barenziah has already 436 years old. A long live Dunmeri woman with lots of skills, from thieving, spell-casting until the speech-craft and negotiation; a remarkable person, indeed.

Brisienna Magnessen

She is a member of the Blades, a sister of the Great Knight, the leader of the Blades. Apparently she is the Grand Spymaster in the Iliac Bay area. She infiltrates the court of Daggerfall in the guise of one of the witches of Popudax.

When the ghost of King Lysandus haunts the streets of Daggerfall, The Emperor sends an agent to soothe Lysandus' soul, and in the same time to get back the controversial letter. The agent arrives late due to the storm that wrecked his ship. Fortunately, Lady Brisienna manages to locate the agent and she manages a meeting with him. She tells the agent to investigate the three royal power in Iliac Bay; Daggerfall, Sentinel and Wayrest in order to know the reason of Lysandus' haunting and to procure the letter.

After the agent successfully soothes the soul of Lysandus and procures the letter, a mysterious "friend" tells him about the history of the Numidium. Soon later, all the factions of Iliac Bay become aware that the agent is working to find the Mantella. Lady Brisienna meets the agent and asking his help to get the Totem of Tiber Septim, which somehow lost from The Blades' hands. The agent finds the totem in Daggerfall vault. Then more letters come to the agent promising wealth and fame for the exchange to the totem. Lady Brisienna (The Blades) is one of them.

In the end, after the agent recover the Mantella, the Blades is one of the wielders of the Numidium. This Empire's intelligence agency is one of the seven retrievers of the Totem of Tiber Septim, a tool for controlling the Dwemer construct. Originally the Totem of Tiber Septim is only one, but a strange time-warping effect known as Warp in the West makes all seven parties of Iliac Bay retrieve the totem.

Camaron (b.3E368 d.3E403)

He is the late King of Sentinel. From his wife, Queen Akorithi, Camaron has Greklith, Lhotun and Aubk-i. Actually, he had one more son, but due to the frail condition of the child, Camaron decides to eliminate the child as he feels that the child is unfit for the throne of Sentinel. The official word says that the Underking takes the child.

When Lord Mogref of Betony vassals the small fishing village to the King Lysandus of Daggerfall, King Camaron objects. He claims that Daggerfall illegally takes the village that had been rightfully Sentinel's. The War of Betony rages.

During the War of Betony, the Lord of Reich Gradkeep tries to facilitate the peace negotiation between two warring city-state. In the appointed day, King Lysandus and King Camaron meet at the Palace of Reich Gradkeep for a truce. However this treaty is never to be. Daggerfall Priest Vanech considered the Betony to be a holy land of Kynareth; any attempt to give up the island is blasphemous for him. Vanech fakes the treaty, and this false treaty offends Lysandus. The room disrupts into chaos. King Camaron knows of Vanech's treachery, pursues and finally slays the priest. However, the chaos is too severe, a great riot breaks throughout the Reich Gradkeep capitol. The entire family of Reich Gradkeep is killed. The only surviving member of the ruling family of Reich Gradkeep is a sickly infant. So the councilors of the state choose Lord Auberon Flyte to rule the lordship in regency. The state is now known as Anticlere as his ancestral home.

The war continues and takes its climax in the Cryngaine Field. King Lysandus is slain in the field. Gothryd, son of King Lysandus, is crowned King of Daggerfall. Inspired with the new King's bravery the Daggerfall force fights with new determination. Lord Bridwell, the leader of the Knights of the Dragon, slays King Camaron. The Sentinel army retreat in disorder. Lord Oresme of Sentinel surrenders; he commits suicide in the way back to Sentinel.

His widow, Queen Akorithi takes the reign of Sentinel, because the official heir, Prince Greklith is just 11 years old.

Late King of Wayrest. His first wife was Carolyna, with whom he had a daughter, Elysana. After Queen Carolyna's death, Eadwyre married Barenziah, former Queen of Mournhold.

He married Barenziah during the reign of Jagar Tharn. Barenziah and Eadwyre plot to end Jagar Tharn's reign. From Tharn's diary, Barenziah manages to locate the piece of the Staff of Chaos, a staff that was used by Tharn to banish The Emperor Uriel Septim VII to other dimension. She then relays the information, and eventually the information would come to the ghost of Ria Silmane. And in turn Ria would relay the information to her champion to collect the pieces of the staff.

After Barenziah deciphered the last location of the piece of the Staff of Chaos. Eadwyre and Barenziah secretly escape from Imperial City. Concerning the political issue, although Tharn knows this escape, he just lets them go. Barenziah is then married by King Eadwyre and becomes the new Queen of Wayrest. She brings her two children, and Eadwyre adopts them.

The relationship of the two Dunmeri children and Princess Elysana is quite unpleasant. Especially between Helseth and Elysana. It's obvious that Helseth wishes the Wayrest throne, while Elysana would do anything to prevent that, and wishes the Wayrest highest seat of power for herself.

During the War of Betony, Wayrest remains neutral. In fact, Wayrest faces other problems. One from sea, the Iliac Bay pirates, and the other from the land, the Orcs of Orsinium. Eadwyre unwilling to send any troops for the war. After the war, Wayrest is somehow benefits from the war. The pirates are leaving. The pirates' haven, the Isle of Balfiera is now haunted by undead raised by Medora Direnni.

King Eadwyre is one of the wielders of the Numidium. He is one of the seven retrievers of the Totem of Tiber Septim, a tool for controlling the Dwemer construct. Originally the Totem of Tiber Septim is only one, but a strange time-warping effect known as Warp in the West makes all seven parties of Iliac Bay retrieve the totem.

After the death of King Eadwyre, Princess Elysana finally wins the crown of Wayrest, and she banishes Barenziah and Helseth back to Morrowind. Morgiah in the other hand, has already left Wayrest at that time.

The daughter of the late Queen Carolyna and King Eadwyre, stepdaughter of Queen Barenziah, stepsister of King Helseth of Morrowind and Queen Morgiah of Firsthold. She wins the throne of Wayrest after a bitter struggle with Helseth, an impressive feat, proving her political acumen and strength.

She has been queen for over ten years now, and has two children by her consort prince. Under her, Wayrest has expanded its territory. A cold war exists between Wayrest, Daggerfall, and Sentinel, and a much warmer one between Wayrest and Orsinium.

It is said a serpent once bit her and died. Her admirers and enemies alike routinely call her the new Wolf Queen. She is powerful and paranoid, utterly ruthless and very, very smart.

He manages to retrieve a copy of the Real Barenziah, a book that is critical to the Wayrest and The Septim Imperial family. He seeks to publish this, perhaps for blackmailing?

During the War of Betony, through his spies, he knows that Wayrest sends assassins to assassinate King Lysandus of Daggerfall. He thinks by prevent this; he can gain the friendship of the most powerful kingdom in Iliac Bay and also the Direnni clan. Alas, his fighters fail to stop the assassins and King Lysandus is slain.

He also gains the letter that Uriel Septim VII sent to Queen of Daggerfall. The letter is critical as it states the resurfacing of the great Numidium, a giant Dwemer construct. The letter is finally retrieved by the agent of Uriel VII in the depth Orsinium dungeon, but the content of the letter has been already spreading among the rulers of Iliac Bay and the underground factions as well. It is obvious that Gortwog trades this information.

Gortwog is one of the wielders of the Numidium.

Through the use of Numidium, eventually the Empire accepts the Orcs equally as other races. As these days, Orcs enjoy all the privilege as normal Imperial citizens; some have been accepted as the guards and troops in the Imperial service.

An underground publisher releases a sheet titles "The Common Tongue"; a sheet that tells the mass that Helseth is a subtle poisoner in the West. "A Game At Dinner", a report by an unknown spy to a certain vampire lord, also relates the story of Helseth of this cunning use of poison.

In the same time, the ancient goddess of Morrowind, Lady Almalexia opposes him. She knows that Helseth with his cunning mind will take over Morrowind for himself, but she cannot risk an open war. Besides, she has lost most of her divine power due to the inability to reach the Heart of Lorkhan in the Red Mountain.

Then, the Nerevarine emerges. At first, Helseth see the Nerevarine as another threat to his new monarchy. He hires the Dark Brotherhood to assassinate the Nerevarine. The Nerevarine is proved too mighty than the Dark Brotherhood and in turn Helseth is face-to-face with the Nerevarine.

The King of Worms

The King of Worms is the leader of the Necromancers, a sworn enemy of Mages Guild and the followers of Arkay; Necromancers are even considered as enemy by the Underking His original name is Mannimarco. Rumors and legends say that he is a lich of tremendous power. From Scourg Barrow in Dragontail Mountain, he cleverly plays all the political games and powers. His influences are even reaching Summerset Isle, the home island of the Altmer. The Sload worships him as well.

In the end of Second Era, he gives Stros M'Kai area to the Sload Necromancer N'Gasta to gather souls, which in turn to be given to Daedric Prince Clavicus Vile.

In 3E414, he helps Hlaalu Morgiah to arrange a way for her to become a queen of Firsthold. Firsthold is a kingdom in Summerset Isle, ruled by King Reman. Morgiah promises the King of Worms her "first". It may be assumedly her first child.

The use of the gem lets him to leave his mortal frame and joins the ranks of the Gods of Oblivion. Another Daedric Prince? Some speculations arise. From Nu-Hatta of the Sphinxmoth Inquiry Tree, we learn that "The Jills of Aka-tosh have mended this numidition. Mannimarco remains as he was: the high priest of maggots." However from "Arkay The Enemy", he wrote, "Once I was a lowly man such as yourselves. By my will I entered the ranks of the gods." The truth? Only time will tell.

King Of Worms is reported once owned some powerful artifacts. One of the artifacts is the legendary Necromancer's Amulet and the other is Bloodworm Helm. These two artifacts are prized among the Necromancers and Mages alike.

Lhotun then tells the agent that Lysandus has a secret lover, Medora Direnni. She has been banished by the dowager Queen Mynisera, and also cursed by Nulfaga. In order to meet the sorceress, the agent has to go to Direnni Tower and fight all the undead and daedric creatures.

A year after his passing, he rises from the death. With his spectral army he haunts the streets of Daggerfall, and shouting "Vengeance..." Shortly, a mysterious agent is sent by Uriel Septim VII to investigate the death of Lysandus.

After a long journey, the agent uncovers that in fact that Lysandus was killed by Lord Woodborne, a noble from Wayrest. It is obvious that Wayrest takes opportunities in the War between Daggerfall and Sentinel. The agent eventually avenges Lysandus and the Lysandus' spirit is finally laid to rest

Medora Direnni

An Altmer of Direnni Clan. She lives in Direnni Tower, previously known as Adamantium Tower. She is the personal sorceress and secret lover of the former king of Daggerfall, King Lysandus. After the death of King Lysandus, the dowager Queen Mynisera banishes her out of the Daggerfall court. She goes back to her island kingdom of Balfiera. However her ill-fate does not end there, Nulfaga in her madness curses the tower. Then the tower is inhabited by liches and vampires alike; and makes the tower as prison for Medora. She cannot leave.

In the quest to lay the spirit of King Lysandus to rest, the agent of Uriel Septim VII is directed by Prince Lhotun of Sentinel to Medora. The agent goes in through all the undead and daedra creatures, and eventually the agent meets with Medora in one of the room of the tower.

She asks the agent to visit Shedungent in Wrothgarian Mountain, the home castle of Nulfaga, to fetch a rare ingredient, the horn of a Great Unicorn. The horn is what Medora needs to break the curse on Direnni Tower. To make long story short, the agent eventually comes back to Direnni Tower with the horn. Medora is more than happy to receive it.

A month later the agent is contacted by Medora and told that in order to soothe the spirit of King Lysandus the agent has to find Dust of Restful Death. Gortwog the King of Orcs directs the agent to a certain dungeon in Balfiera Isle, to find the dust. With this dust eventually the agent can converse with the spirit of King Lysandus.

Morgiah, Hlaalu (b.3E384)

Morgiah is the second child of Queen Barenziah and the late King Symmachus. She has been adopted by Eadwyre, her stepfather.

She somehow has connections to the underworld factions. During her stay in Wayrest, she deals with Necromancer lord, The King of Worms. She would give "her first" to the King of Worms in order to become the Queen of Firsthold, Summurset Isle. The deal is accepted and in the short time she departs from Wayrest to join King Reman of Firsthold as the Queen of Firsthold. She is known as the "Black Queen".

However not all the people of Firsthold accepts the new Dunmer Queen. One faction that rejects her rule is the Trebbite Monks; a faction that has a credo for pure Altmer bloodlines on Summurset, and among the royal families most of all. Lady Gialene and her advisor, Kael, manipulate this condition to make an open rebellion. Lady Gialene seeks to become the Queen of Firsthold herself.

Eventually, the rebellion fails due to a trick made by Morgiah to Lady Gialene. Morgiah told her that a band of Battlemages would face the rebellion, which in fact it is just common archers. The reflection magic that is supposed to reflect the fireball of the battlemages reflects all the healing magic. The wounds from arrows cannot be healed and in the end the rebellion fails.

Morgiah inherits much of her mother Queen Barenziah's intelligence and spirit of vengeance.

Mynisera (b.3E353)

Dowager Queen of Daggerfall. Mynisera is the widow of King Lysandus and mother of King Gothryd. She is a trusted friend of Uriel Septim VII. In circa-3E403 Uriel VII sends a letter telling her that the Numidium is resurfaced, and in the possession of Lord Woodborne of Wayrest. The Emperor asks her (as she has influence in the court of Wayrest) to persuade Lord Woodborne to turn the totem to the Blades.

However, the War of Betony ruins the Emperor's plan. The letter is indeed delivered to the Queen of Daggerfall, but now the Queen is Aubk-I. Mynisera is now the Dowager Queen, as his husband, King Lysandus has died in the war. Lysandus' son, King Gothryd, now rules Daggerfall.

In the end, the letter ends up in the hand of Gortwog, the leader of Orsinium Orcs. The agent that Uriel Septim VII sent, eventually recovers the letter, unfortunately the news of the Totem of Tiber Septim has been spread widely in the Iliac Bay.

The Totem of Tiber Septim itself is found in the dungeon of Castle Daggerfall by the agent. It is obvious that King Gothryd has a connection with Lord Woodborne, the person who assassinated his own father, King Lysandus.

Nulfaga (b.3E336)

Dowager Queen of Daggerfall, sometimes called the Mad Witch. Nulfaga is the grandmother of the current King of Daggerfall. She is a powerful mystic and necromancer. She has a dragon familiar named Skakmat.

When Sentinel declares war on Daggerfall - due to the submitting of Island of Betony to Daggerfall - Nulfaga and Medora Direnni (a sorceress to the court of Daggerfall, and a secret lover to the late King Lysandus) urge King Lysandus not to enter the war. Both sorceresses foretold doom to King Lysandus. But Lysandus insists in his decision to fight Sentinel. Nulfaga retires to Shedungent in the Wrothgarian Mountains and left Skakmat behind to report to her.

Although Skakmat with his unnatural fog tries to avoid the battle in the Cryngaine Field, eventually as foretold, Lysandus is killed by a Sentinel arrow. Nulfaga herself went mad and blames Medora for Lysandus' death. She curses the Direnni Tower, and imprisons Medora Direnni in her own tower. However, Daggerfall, under Prince Gothryd, wins the war.

Nulfaga mistakenly learns that the murderer of her son, King Lysandus, was in the unmarked ship from the Imperial City. This ship is in fact the ship of the mysterious agent sent by Uriel Septim VII. She summons a storm to swallow and destroy the ship and her passengers.

After the mysterious agent of Uriel Septim VII avenged King Lysandus, her memory is somewhat restored. She helps the agent in the final quest concerning the Numidium. She prophesies the wielders of the Numidium.

"Only Crowned Heads will hold the Totem True
First is One Who Killed, But Did Not Kill Another
Second is One Who Is Two Devoured By Its Young
Third is One Who Made One Slave and Many Free
Fourth and Fifth are Two Who Compete for Mud
Sixth is One Who Brings a Home to the Homeless
Seventh is One Who Lords All, But Does Not Lord At All"

There should be only one of the seven factions that will wield the Numidium, but in the end all of them wield the Numidium, resulting the Warp of the West.

Symmachus, Hlaalu (b.2E865 d.3E391)

Former King of Morrowind. His wife is Queen Barenziah and with her, he has two children, Helseth and Morgiah. Symmachus is killed during a rebellion in the Morrowind Province in early Jagar Tharn's reign. It is obvious that Tharn is associated with this rebellion.

His glass dagger is considered as an artifact. Symmachus gives this to Helseth and in turn Helseth gives the dagger to Nerevarine.

The Underking

He is a lich, a powerful one.

There are some conflicting records on the Underking. The first one is the Imperial version. The Imperial always says that Underking was Zurin Arctus, an Imperial Battlemage turns traitor of Tiber Septim.

Rumor says that during Tiber Septim's conquest in the end of Second Era, he brokered the agreement between Morrowind and Cyrodiil, preventing the war and making the Tribunal to accept Septim's rules. An agreement that makes the Empire acquired Numidium. Zurin Arctus is the one who in charge of the research to reanimate the giant dwemeri construct in order to use it as an ultimate weapon to crush the Aldmeri Dominion.

Arctus creates the Totem of Tiber Septim to control the construct. He then creates a powerful gem called Mantella and infuses his own heart (soul/life-force) into the gem. He uses the gem to power the Numidium. With this eventually the Aldmer was destroyed, and Tiber Septim conquers the whole Tamriel.

Then Tiber Septim uses the Numidium to crush neutral royal families of Tamriel so that he could enthrone only persons he knew to be loyal. Zurin Arctus is furious at this use. He then confronts Tiber Septim to reclaim the Mantella. In the battle neither side wins. The Mantella is blown of this reality into Aetherius. Numidium's body is scattered throughout Tamriel and the Imperial Battlemage, without his life force goes into a semi-slumber in a subterranean vault.

Another version of Underking is recorded in the book titled Arcturian Heresy. This book tells that Underking is not Zurin Arctus, but King Wulfharth. Wulfharth was a King of Skyrim. History records that he ruled Skyrim in circa-1E500. The legend says that he was re-birth (assumedly in lich form) by Shor, a nordic god known as Lorkhan among the Elves. Later on, after his defeat in the hand of the Chimer/Tribunal, circa-1E668, and lost his god, Shor, Wulfharth goes underground to wait and strengthen and reform his body anew.

Oddly, it is Almalexia who disturbs his rest. In 2E547, she summons the Underking to fight alongside the Tribunal against Ada'Soom Dir-Kamal, the Akaviri demon. The Underking disappears after Ada'Soom is defeated.

In the end of Second Era, the Underking awakes again. The power struggle in the Skyrim, Cyrodiil and High Rock awakes him. He allies himself to a young leader named Hjalti Early-Beard, helping him in the war. The Underking knows that Hjalti would become the Emperor of Tamriel. After the death of King Cuhlecain, Zurin Arctus (not the Underking, in this version) coronates Hjalti as the new Emperor. Hjalti takes Tiber Septim as his Imperial name.

The Underking always wants to take revenge on the Tribunal, so he urges Tiber Septim to attack Morrowind. In time, Tiber Septim invades Morrowind. However, Tribunal easily surrenders and makes pacts with the Empire. Furious on this result, the Underking leaves Tiber Septim.

Without the Underking the plan to conquer all Tamriel is impossible, the Aldmeri Dominion still powerful in the west. Tiber Septim turns to other forces to strengthen his force. Numidium, the gift from Tribunal, is a perfect war machine, if he can reanimate it. He orders Zurin Arctus to study the dwemeri artifact. Arctus thinks that only Lorkhan's heart is sufficient to power the construct, however to storm Red Mountain citadel and claiming the heart from Dagoth Ur is also impossible. Tiber Septim plans for another drastic move.

Tiber Septim contacts the Underking, and saying that he was right after all. When the Underking comes to meet Tiber Septim, an ambush waits him. Zurin Arctus manages to capture the soul of the Underking and the Underking is turned to ash. Zurin Arctus himself dies in the process, and later he is declared as a traitor by Tiber Septim - to avoid any scandal. With this soulgem, the Mantella, eventually the Numidium moves, and the Aldmeri Dominion is destroyed. In the end of Summerset Isle war, an undead sorcerer emerges from the sky and blows the Numidium apart; the Mantella is reported lost in the sea. It seems that the Underking is survived Tiber Septim's ambush after all.

So, which one is the truth? That is a big mystery.

Circa 3E415, the agent of Uriel Septim VII uncovers the mystery of the Totem of Tiber Septim, and the agent then transported by Nulfaga to Aetherius to recover the Mantella. The Underking is one of the receivers of the Numidium. In fact he does not care of the Numidium, what he seeks is Mantella, his own heart. The Imperial records that the reunion with his heart makes the Underking dies – a final rest that he seeks all these time. However, if we think based on Arcturian Heresy then it is possible that the Underking survived.

Other information on Zurin Arctus, he wrote a series of books, unfortunately only one remains today, "The Art of War Magic." Other than books, he once enchanted a cuirass made from a dragon bone, the Dragonbone Mail.

Lord Woodborne

He is a noble in Wayrest and betrothed to Princess Elysana. During the chaotic battle in the Cryngaine Field, he assassinates King Lysandus of Daggerfall. His spirit seeks vengeance; he haunts the street of Daggerfall and shouting "Vengeance…" Lord Woodborne meets his unfortunate end in the hand of the Uriel Septim VII agent and lay Lysandus' spirit to rest.
